If you're of German or Eastern European heritage, this place will be like coming home. The smell of sausage that hits you when you enter the door is fantastic. The selection of everything from sauce mixes to candy(!!!) to jerky to frozen meats and even beer and wine is incredible for place this small. Prices are a little high, but to put this stock on these shelves is a risk if you're not doing business in downtown Dusseldorf, so give 'em a break. And leave room for the "fresh from Germany" desserts... Defintiely recommended! Sehr gut!

Geiers just keeps getting better and better for me. This trip we tried the English Bacon - and it was the best bacon we've ever had. We also tried the smoked pork - and bought two pounds to use as a snack. And don't miss the Black and Blue Burgers - they're homemade with smoked bacon and cheese in them. They are unbelievable. This is now one of our first stops when we get to Sarasota to stock up before hitting the grocery store.

I've waited a long time to write a review of Geiers. My grandparents both worked there for many years before they retired and my grandfather passed. It's always emotional to visit, but in a good way. Every time I'm in Sarasota I make it a point to stop in to pick up some treats and enjoy the smell of a traditional butcher shop with smoked meats. They carry a HUGE variety of products that are difficult to find anywhere else in the states. My husband is German so it's great to pick-up some of his favorites as well. They carry some of the freshest meats and cold cuts available. Their smoked meats are possibly some of the greatest in the world. If you are a fan of beef jerky I forewarn you that Geiers Beef Jerky will ruin all other jerky for you. It's so fresh and amazing that anything else tastes like artificial garbage. I know it sounds mean, but seriously once you've tried it you'll understand. They have a great deli counter where you can get a big sandwich and a griddle where you can order a sausage cooked up fresh to order. They have a never ending supply of German cookies and candies available to suit just about any preference. If you are ever in the area i strongly encourage you to stop into Geiers. It truly is a timeless place with amazing products. You will NOT regret it.

A German "metzgerei" (butcher shop) with an absolute wonder assortment of meats. The place has a little bit of everything. German sauces, spices, candies, chocolates, cheeses, beer, wine, etc. They bake bread every day. Get the pretzel rolls - delicious. They also have a grill in the back offering authentic German dishes. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Speaking to one of the employees at the grill, she told us of how well the owners treated them - just like family and that she loved working there. A definite gem worth stopping in and checking out what they have and getting something to sample.

Beautiful selection of high quality meats, Pate, many products from Europe such as cookies and chocolate. Our dogs love the jumbo smoked dog bones from Geiers. We always remember to pick up a few for our puppies.

The finest German butcher shop I have ever been in short of visiting Germany. Many authentic German sweets, treats, and ingredients alongside cases of freshly butchered meat. I was impressed to find this gem of a place. Totally unassuming from the outside, the smells of Deutsch land fill the interior. Perfect place to stop for a German chocolate treat, fresh meats for dinner, or just to stop and have a brought worst for lunch. I will be returning with many friends and family.

Been spoiled by NY's finest but for Sarasota, Florida to have a German eatery in its town is great. I bought a smoked chorizo sausage and regular sausage ($1.44 each) then went to the deli side to order from their menu. Had to bbq riblets with two sides of potato chips and mixed veggies ($5.99), pork tenderloin with double mixed veggies ($5.99), and one of each of the sausages bedded atop sauerkraut ($1.99). I picked up a couple sweets from the grocery store side, too. The only downside is that they were seeking the red siracha bottles on their shelves and they were already spoiled (in color and material). I don't know who their supplier is for that but they should really get it checked out before putting that kind of stuff on the shelf to sell. Just my two cents! :) Thanks for making my parents' first time experience of German food delicious.

Having lived in Sarasota for many years, and never stopped in, I finally made it in for lunch while visiting the area. Not impressed. Sandwiches are limited in menu. This is mostly a deli/meat vendor selling uncooked food for you to prepare at home.
(2)Knowbudy N.
Great little german lunch counter in the back to the left. Very inexpensive authentic German grub!
(5)Elena C.
Geiers has the best chicken in town. The meats are very good, their New York Strip steaks are of superb quality. The ground chuck is especially good. Their sausages are delicious, well made and fresh. You can find the best spicy mustard from Dusseldorf, European beer and many other wonderful sweet and savory European treats. I love the service and I love having a small slice of Germany in town.
(5)Joel P.
5 stars because this is Sarasota's premier euro-grocer and butcher! One of their main clients wouldn't be Disney if they weren't doing something right... Geiers is my "go to" butchers from now on. Between a run to Detwielers once every couple of days and Geiers for all my protein needs I don't have any use for any type of processed food supermarkets! I went in searching for some ground lamb to make gyro meatballs for a party and not only was it reasonably priced but they were grinding it to spec for me before I could even arrive. I had a question about making jerky and sausage and the butchers took me school and answered every question I had. It was also Oktoberfest this weekend.. great food, great beer, and great buys! Im all in.
(5)Chuck C.
I agree with the other positive reviews, as I've been buying stuff there since it opened about 40 years ago. It was a miniature golf place before that. The steaks are the best in town. I usually go for a thick sirloin. Grab a package of the little hot smoked sausages on your way out. They are what Slim Jims would be if they were seasoned properly and contained real meat. Good selection of imported beer at ridiculously high prices. BTW, there is a Geier's in Venice, too, but it doesn't sell fresh meat. Although they sell Geier's sausage there, it's a semi-independent operation that also has some items that the Sarasota store doesn't. Oh, yeah. Try the Nuremburger brats. Really great. Remind me of street food I ate in Zurich years ago.

this is a great museum of german and related food. (but french is not related, btw). it is really 5 star, but with much of the food at 2-3x what you would pay in germany makes it a 4 star. definately worth going, but only buy what you have to. sometimes they do cookouts, which are good value, and they have some sort of deli.
(4)doug w.
A wonderful, fun food store. If you like cold cuts, it's impossible to leave empty handed...they make their own and the selection is huge. They also have ready to cook meat dishes as well as a sandwiches to go area. Very good meat market and a large selection of packaged/canned goods covering Germany and surrounding countries. As a foodie, I leave with a large bag of various items every time I stop by. Excellent chocolate/candy department as well. Definitely worth a detour just to walk through...but warning...you won't leave empty handed.
(5)M R.
I like Geier's! Their array of German products is great and they carry chocolate covered cherries in rum and Hungarian tokay wine and fresh yeast to make our family recipes. Any place that carries German vanilla sugar packets for my vanilla almond crescents is authentic! ;)
(4)Fred P.
As a child I lived in Austria, and as a college student I lived in Munich. As a result, I developed an affinity for German cuisine, and sausages in particular. Geier's Sausage Kitchen not only makes their own sausages, but carries an entire range of German delicacies, fresh-made and otherwise. One can stop in, take a number, and order from an astounding assortment of meats, salads, vegetables, pastries, breads and other tasty morsels. Lining the shelves are jars, bottles and packages - mostly imported - of mixes, pickles, mustards, spices and condiments. Why, there is a full shelf devoted to canned fish (herring, sardines, etc.)! Not all the goods are strictly German. One of my favorite foods is Hungarian salami, and Geier's carries several varieties and sizes. And their Landjaeger sausage brings back fond memories of my years spent abroad. This last trip to Sarasota was a "day outing" from Tampa. My primary purpose was to make a trip to Geier's to load up on German comestibles to take home. Mission accomplished! And by the way, Hungarian salamis in your luggage will ALWAYS result in a TSA bag check! :)

Buyer beware...make sure to check that the price you pay matches the price tag on the item. Today, I went to Geier's to stock up for the holiday weekend. They had a bunch of twice baked potatoes in the case, ALL labeled $1.39, which I thought was a great deal, so I grabbed one. I purchased many other items and it was very busy, so I didn't catch it at the register that my potato rang in at $5.99. I live nearby, so when I got home and noticed the price was nearly 4X what it was marked, I ran back for a price adjustment. The people who were happy to take my money only 15 minutes before were extremely rude and told me that the potatoes are really $5.99, not $1.39. I told the cashier they were all marked that way and I expected to pay the price marked. We walked over to the food counter and the man behind the counter laughed at me, "You don't expect to pay $1.39 for that, we've got to make some money on them." "Well yes, actually I do. I expect that I will be charged the price that is marked because that is the right and ethical thing to do." In the end, they refused to do anything and I returned my potato. I hope they make "their money" on that potato because losing the business of a foodie who lives nearby will cost them much more over the years. I will never return.

Purchased fried cabbage and ham. Really good!
(3)Mark R.
Outstanding service and selection. Authentic German meats and baked goods is the best I've ever had! Highly recommend...
(5)Steph G.
I love this place, its part of my weekly routine. I will never go buy meat In a regular grocery store again. One of the butchers recognizes me all the time and now I just say I'm looking for steak and he'll suggest a good one. He's never been wrong.
(5)T F.
A treasure in Sarasota! Go.... and plan to spend some time waking around and just try a few of the awesome items each time you go.. you will always find more and you won't be disappointed. Try a sandwich and one of their freshly made desserts.
(5)Carla G.
The best brats I have had! Top quality brats and a beautiful meat counter bring me back every week. The prices are reasonable. I haven't been able to find a butcher shop since leaving northern Michigan. They also have some really good wine and beer, great baked goods, and tons of other products from Germany. My only complaint is service at the meat counter can be painfully slow.
(4)Matt S.
When I first walked in the doors of Geiers Sausage Kitchen I was immediately whisked away to my college backpacking trip through Germany. It is located on Tamiami Trail, but feels like Germany. The selection of meat is simply amazing. They make all of the sausage in house and have been doing it for years. Don't forget to pick up some of their cooked sauerkraut and pretzel rolls as well. Delicious. I recently found out that they provide the brats, kraut and other sausage for Disney's German Pavilion at EPCOT. That definitely speaks for it's authenticity. So, swing on into Geiers, fire up the grill, and have yourself a sausage party!! Allright, not the best choice of words, but you know what I mean. Also, I recommend the homemade jerky and South African biltong. It is a little pricey (~28/lb) but well worth it. The biltong is prepared "wet and fatty" if you like with top quality beef, and the friendly employees will slice it thin if you ask. It is the best jerky you will ever eat. (I can't eat that jack links stuff anymore after tasting real jerky). You won't be disappointed.
(5)Rodger B.
As the name suggests they sell sausage but they also sell prepared food as well as meats and poultry. I first went there because I like fresh blood sausage and it's not easy to find. But if you like to buy meat and poultry that is hormone and antibiotic free they have an excellent selection. Think of Whole Foods meat department but with a much larger selection. Don't let the modest outside appearance fool you, this place has everything.
(5)George B.
Talk about kid in a candy store! That's the way I feel every time I step into Geier's. They have a terrific selection of meats and German-style sausages, which is one of the reasons my parents and I shop there. They also have a number of German items, but the ones I focus on are the candies, cookies and chocolates! The stock seems tremendous to me (especially the liqueur filled ones), but I will admit, kind of pricey for some of them. Anyway, I highly recommend visiting this store if you like fine deli meats and other German specialties.

I travel to Wisconsin frequently and love my favorite meat shops, they are a world onto their own. So, recently, when I was introduced to this place you can imagine how my heart skipped a beat to find such an amazing find. Yes, it is nice to find a place which is literally wall to wall meat. I am a big fan of their sausage packs and think they make a great snack. Their kitchen is small but the lady who runs the food counter is a great short order chef and makes a mean omelette on a bagel with a burger and cheese for breakfast. You had better believe that I am relieved to find a great butcher shop in the south and am looking forward to my next vacation and visit here.
