Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I don't understand the good reviews this place is getting. This is not a standard restaurant - it's counter service and then they bring you your order. That in an of itself is not a problem. However, the food was mediocre, and that's being polite. I got nachos Mexicana and 3 tacos - pork, chicken and beef. If it wasn't for dousing it all in salsa (and the salsa is the only reason this place isn't getting 1 star) the food would have been bland at best and really not good at all if being completely honest. I've lived in Sarasota for 4 years and have been to 3 Mexican restaurants. One in St. Armands, which was about the blandest food I have ever eaten, this place, and El Lago Ranchero in Lakewood Ranch. El Lago was far and away the best. Even still, none of them are as good as the Mexican places I've been to in Atlanta, where I travel frequently. It's disappointing that we can't get really good Mexican in Sarasota.

Solid 3 star Mexican restruant. Had the Fiesta salad and the shrimp were perfectly grilled. Good food for a good price!

Visiting from Ohio, the locals told us to try out this place. We pull up at 8, the restaurant is empty. We walk in and the kitchen is dark, like they were closed. I knew they closed at 9 so we had plenty of time. The very young girl at the front counter greeted us very nonchalantly. I asked if they were open And she hesitated and quietly said yes. We sat at a table and ordered 2 margaritas, which were by far the WORST margaritas I've ever tasted. I'm a bartender, I can definitely spot a good margarita. NO alcohol whatsoever. It tasted like straight sour mix and maybe a hint of lime juice. Then we ordered our meals. Which again, weren't good at all. We finished in a total of maybe ten minutes, and not ONCE did our server come over and see if everything tastes okay / if we needed anything. I really needed a water since I finished my nasty margarita and needed to get the taste out of my mouth.. And the whole time she's at the counter rolling silverware .... And of course half way through my meal another couple walked in and asked if they were open and she said "um..... Yeah.... But we close at 9".. I'm sorry, it's 8:15 lady. And you are telling me that you don't want BUSINESS??? What a horrible place to eat on our final days of our honeymoon. Can't believe that this place is still in business.

I can't stop coming back here, the authentic Mexican food is superb, in my opinion the best in sarasota. The staff are always courteous and helpful. I've eaten the burritos, tacos and tamales and would recommend them all.
(5)Janie M.
If it was possible to give this place zero stars, I would. It does win the award for the worst Mexican restaurant that I've ever been to in my entire life, so for that...congratulations!
(1)Jason H.
Empty restaurant at dinner. Now that's a hint. Don't be fooled by a full parking lot, it's shared with plenty of other restaurants in that strip. I had the cilantro pescada. It was just ho-hum. Nothing particularly memorable about it except the cilantro was fresh. The vegetables tasted like they came from the freezer, and the fruit salsa was as uninspired as any I've ever had. Wasn't impressed with the service, decor, or menu items. However, if you're starving... well, do what you gotta do.
(2)Jim J.
Can't beat that Wet Burrito. I've had it twice and it was excellent both times. The Owner even took the time to explain that everything on the menu is made fresh from fresh ingredients. That's probably why it tastes so good! I recommend Burritos Fresh Mexican when you're in the mood for authentic Mexican food in Sarasota. Give them a try.
(5)Camille P.
Ordered the wet chicken burrito with beans and rice. Not impressed by the pretty much tasteless, soggy burrito. Nothing on the plate had any flavor and was really lacking seasoning or at least salt. Every table has two bottles of salsa puree on it - a mild and spicy. The salsa however is not really like any salsa I've had. It's a well blended liquid sauce. This is pretty much the only option for flavoring your food. I really wanted to like this place as it's close to home and I love Mexican food, however we will not be returning to burritos in the near future. Also thought the food was overpriced for what we got. Two beers & two burritos = $30. I will say their chips are some of the best I've had.
(2)George S.
Excellent Mexican food... it was my first time here, and I'll be back with my family and friends. The place is very clean which is important to me, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Glad I stopped. :)
(5)Gail L.
Not terribly busy but what seemed like a lot of take out orders. Second visit and I went specifically for the tamales which were good. Husband had the mango shrimp which he really enjoyed.
(3)Steve G.
What a surprise! We got tired of trying to find a good Mexican restaurant and simply stopped at the nearest one. Burritos Fresh Mexican was the place we stopped. The food was REALLY good! Wow! I had the chicken tostada. Fresh lettuce, nice, crisp tostada, delicious chicken. the beans were great and the rice was cooked perfect. My wife's chicken taco was also good and the guac, although tiny in size, was fresh as well. The salsa and chips weren't quite up to snuff -- especially considering the salsa was simply a squeeze bottle full of spicy chipotle hot sauce -- good, but not very creative. How about a little bowl of pico de gallo? And the chips were definitely third rate. But other than that, the food was very tasty and the beer was cold and the prices more than fair. Recommended!
(3)Tim S.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Great food. I thought the salsas were excellent. And love that they bring the bottles to your table so you can refill as needed. Wet steak burrito was amazing. Lady earlier said she'd rather have chipotle. I like chipotle, but this is head and shoulders above chain mexican.
(4)Dawn S.
y'know, i've eaten at Burritos for about 8 yrs (since i moved to south sarasota). used to really appreciate it. not so much these days. sure, it's still relatively cheap and the burritos prolly weigh about a pound (or more), but things have gone down hill substantially. i mean, the quality of the food was never that of a 5-star anyway, but for $5 a burrito, you couldn't expect much--but at least the food was palatable. nowadays, it's pricier than Chipotle, yet that chain place has darn tasty food for the price... not so Burritos anymore. their ground beef burrito had NO--zero--taste the last time there (the time before, I got steak, but that was so gristle-y I spit out half of it). the burrito was pretty pathetic, actually. so I tried the enchiladas: ick. Amy's Natural frozen enchiladas are way better AND half the cost! we had noticed that the quality started slipping about a year ago (same time the prices went UP). this last time was the pits. oh, & it's helpful to note they're only open til 9pm.

Tried this place for lunch based on yelp reviews. First the place is clean. Chips were just ok as noted by others. Nothing great but came out warm. Had the mild salsa from a squeeze bottle. It was also just ok. I ordered a 1lb super pork burrito. My wife ordered the taco salad. The burrito was not great but not bad. I think the pork would have been better without the red sauce that it was mixed with. I also added beans which were just on one end taco bell style. Beans were all mush like from a can. I personally like my beans with whole beans. Tortilla was thick, dry and my initial thought was construction paper I wish places would make their own tortilla since it is the foundation of great burrito. I asked if they could do the pork without the red sauce and they said they could not that it was already made. So much for everything being made to order and from scratch. Taco salad my wife said was good and the taco meat was flavorful and better than most. The shell was good also. They had forgotten to bring out the sour cream and guacamole and it took about 10 minutes for the waiter to come back out for us to ask him for it. No fresh brewed iced tea only fountain tea which sucked. Also no credit cards accepted. Prices were reasonable. I would say I may try again but not for a while.
(3)Fred G.
We tried this place based on some positive reviews from another source. At prime time, we were the only couple in the place. That should have been a clue. We ordered, what else, burritos, wet ones. They were about the size of a rubber play football, smothered in cheese and a generic red sauce. We think the burritos were pre made and heated In the microwave. Btw tithe chips were not very good, another clue. Plenty of good Mexican joints around here.pass on this one.
(1)J S.
Eh. Take out OR wait service. Adequate but unremarkable.
(3)Joel P.
It was a toss up between two or three stars. Three stars would be fitting because the food is just decent, as is the service. The deal breaker was the dark kitchen. Why anyone would want no lights in the kitchen that is right behind the register where all the customers see is beyond me. The food is good for a fast burrito on the run, just a little odd. Not someplace I would considerer sending someone looking for an amazing experience but in a hurry it could be an option.
(2)Tiffany V.
This place is extremely horrible. Chips were stale, salsa was just plain disgusting. Service was good but food just terrible. Rice and beans tasted like frozen food. Never coming back here. Do not go here if you are looking for good food.
(1)Jeff E.
its the most authentic Mexican food I have ever had. You can't go wrong! I recommend the steak burrito wet and steak tacos crunchy! perfect!!!! and the house made mild salsa is to crave.
(5)Alex P.
We went here for some take out as we were both craving a good burrito. This restaurant did not disappoint! Our order was completed quickly and everything was delicious. I ordered a Durango burrito with beef and added verde plus hot sauce on top. The beef was seasoned well and the fresh cilantro they added provided great flavor. This is a small counter-serve restaurant, but it's great for take out or if you're starving and want something quick. The interior is well decorated to give it that "authentic" vibe of a good burrito place. Definitely recommend.

No bones about it, food was bad, terrible, horrible. Didn't take more than one bite and alerted the server. When she didn't help or seem concerned,I asked her to send me the manager: she called me up to her telephone and let me speak with the manager who did clear our bill. Good, we didn't eat the food. Server then mentioned she spilled some soap and that it could have gotten on the food. Are you kidding me? After the fact. I knew something tasted bubbly.
(1)Wendy C.
I eat here regularly. I've never had bad service or bad food and the amount of food I get is enough for two meals. They are generous servings. Also, the food is fresh and not processed like a lot of restaurants. They make their own items. I try to eat at restaurants where the food isn't frozen or highly processed. It is posted on their wall about this. I always get the Chicken Quesadilla and the chicken has a wonderful grilled flavor to it and is always so juicy and flavorful. The salsa is not chunky - which I love. I always leave here feeling stuffed to the gills, even eating only half or less of my food. The enviornment is dark and relaxing. It's never crowded, even on the weekends. I don't think the snowbirds have discovered it yet! And something else that is cool: they have Trivial Pursuit cards on the tables while you wait for your food.
(5)Jeremy C.
I've eaten here many times, mainly because its quick, quiet and conveinent. The food isn't going to knock anyone's sombrero off, but at least they have an 8-pound burrito, which usually fills me up. They also have smaller burritos for girly men.
(4)Mema C.
Whew, the MARGAITA Was Awesome And powerful! I had a beef taco and shrimp tostada! Wonderful flavor and heat! Will come again. Great service and great prices. Waiting time to order and receive food was perfect. We were going to a place next door based on reviews but the close during the afternoon so we walked a few doors down and am so glad we did. Party in your mouth.
(3)Dawn J.
One of the best Mexican places around. Food is fresh and made to order. Can't beat it.
(5)Joe R.
Excellent Burito, and the Margarita was very good! Service was also very good. I'd definitely go back again.
(5)Lisa A.
The five of us were looking for a place we could all agree upon and my brother suggested this place based on his friend's recommendation. Plus, we wanted margaritas. No, they don't have margaritas by the pitcher, but by the glass only and they're pretty damn good. Chips are crispy, fresh and lightly salted and the guacamole is spot on. (I also liked that the two sauces/salsas were in mustard & ketchup squeeze bottles.) Everyone enjoyed their meals which ranged from fish tacos, super burrito, and veggie tacos and burritos (with *fresh*, not mushy/reheated frozen veggies). They have an 8lb burrito called the Mongo Burrito. Now, I'd like to see someone eat that. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is very laid back. I'm definitely coming back when I'm in the area.
