This place is a total dive, and they don't use gloves to make your sandwich, but these things should not stop you from frequenting this establishment if you work in the area. The price is right, and the sandwiches are original and delicious. Bread is either brought in or baked fresh daily. The must-try triple-decker "awfuls" are so named for their awfully large size. They come with a delicious secret sauce. The #2 awful combines our favorite high-protein salads: tuna and egg with ham. We also enjoy their "special" sandwiches that incorporate cole slaw into the sandwich. The egg salad is also a good fall-back for a delicious, high-cholesterol lunch. As a bonus, they serve breakfast sandwiches in the mornings; these are both reasonably priced and are artery-expanding, mouth-watering goodness. The establishment is a total dive, so we recommend calling-in your order or requesting delivery (which requires a minimum purchase). However, they are always friendly and are quick to recognize repeat customers. Their most frequent customers also get bonus goodies like the occasional free sandwich or beverage. Regardless if you're in the mood for a classic pastrami and rye or want an original, jaw-dislocating "awful", Sangwich Block will not fail to deliver.

Great food. Great prices. Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like Philly style sandwiches, try a sangwich

Nicely priced and delicious! 5 stars! :)

My first visit I have to say it was an awesome experience. Food is outstanding. You don't want to miss out on this place

It's the stuff you'd find in a brown paper bag if you had time to pack a lunch that day. It's fine... but nothing worth driving more than a block or two for. Basic sandwiches, no frills. I'll be back to try to see if there's something worth bumping the rating up. I can't see how a regular sandwich you could make at home in about 3 minutes warrants 4 or 5 stars.

This place has been around since I was a kid, so they must be doing something right! Excellent meats, generous portions, and great value for the money. I'm afraid I can't give a full 5 stars due to their hours. This is mostly a lunch place. The close at 3:30pm M-Fr, and at 2:30pm on Sat. A great sandwich joint if you find yourself in the area at the right time!

Tried Sangwich Block for the first time this past week. it's maybe 5 minutes from home and I am always looking for a new sandwich place, and with the reviews this place got, it had to be checked out. I'm going with 4 stars because it was good and it was fresh and it was very fast, but I'm not so sure it was more than a 3.5 star sandwich. I got one of their triple decker sandwiches - a club on marble rye with ham, turkey, cheese, some kind of sauce and veggies. It was good, but it was also the kind of sandwich I could make at home. I think the mistake I made was not going with a Cuban sandwich, which is generally my go-to in a new sandwich place, especially in Florida, or a chicken parm sandwich, which is also a favorite of mine. I was lured by the idea of the triple decker sandwich. The devil knows the way to my soul. As I said, it was super fast. I ordered, then checked in, and didn't even have time to make my 100th check of my email and facebook for the day before it was done. It is also pretty inexpensive for the size of the sandwich you can get. Can't go wrong. Certainly better than any sandwich chain you can go to, and more options than a Publix. Worth your time.

Hidden gem is correct! You would drive past this, if you didn't know it was there. AMAZING hoagies! My mouth is watering just writing this review! I will have to go back soon and post pictures.

I was first introduced to Sangwich Block when I interned for Dave Wirth at Channel 10 by a videographer who swore by their "Sangwiches" like it was a religion. That was...um...let's just say quite a few years back. (Sorry Dave, you have been at Channel 10 a long time) So today when I was driving through that area around lunchtime, I thought I would swing by and see if it was still there. Sure enough. It is still there and looks almost exactly as the first time I walked in the place in 1989...oops, I mean a few years back. So many good choices on the menu: Cold, hot, pitas, wraps, burgers, cubans, salads. As a Sangwich veteran, I knew the "Awful Triple Decker #3" was the right call. Turkey, bacon, swiss, provolone, cole slaw, lettuce, tomato and the special dressing on my choice (Pumpernickel) of one of FIVE quality sliced breads. In literally 2-3 minutes, I had my freshly made and delicious "Awful" and was awfully happy to know this place was still around taking care of the hungry lunch crowd in North St. Pete.

Good stop for a quick bite or take out. Sandwiches are on regular type bread which you don't find in many places these days. My favorite is #2 turkey specialty sandwich which is turkey, Swiss cheese, cole slaw and special sauce on pumpernickel.

Those awful triple decker sanwiches!

A bit of a hole in the wall, but not bad if you need a quick lunch with classic diner lunch favorites. Lots of Greek inspired menu items. Best "to-go" as seating is limited inside. Service is very friendly.

We've been getting sandwiches here for over two years now and they are right up there with that other deli on 4th St. (rhymes with "big signs") for best sandwiches in St. Petersburg. I was reading the reviews on Urban Spoon and I'm not sure who pissed in the Cheerios of the people who left bad reviews there, because I have *never* had a bad sandwich or bad service or grumpy staff. Their sandwiches have generous amounts of meat, their bread is top-notch (hard to find down here in FL), and they do a very brisk business at lunchtime so call your order in ahead of time and make sure to ask what the special is that day. Today's was a hot sausage sub with onions, peppers, and provolone, which my husband pronounced "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm". I had my usual Ruben because it's the hottest, meatiest, messiest Ruben around and my all-time favorite. Oh, and did I mention they were cheap? Hubby and I can split a sub and be quite satisfied for under $8. They do deliver, but only to local offices/businesses. No home delivery. Luckily I live less than a mile away. Pro tip: If you're southbound from Roosevelt or Gandy, you can't turn left from MLK into 93rd St. so to avoid going down MLK and making a u-turn, take 4th St. to 93rd instead, make a left turn, and go to the end of the street.

Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you, this place has awesome food. I usually get the turkey Ruben and have yet to be disappointed. Leo and military friendly too

Great little hole int he wall sandwich shop. Would definitely recommend coming here for a quick lunch if your in the area. I have been here a few times and always end up getting the same things. I go with the Cajun Blue. Which is essentially a blackened chicken breast with ham and Swiss on a onion bun. The potato salad isn't bad either. Thumbs up!

This place is a hidden gem. I always get the roast beef grilled on marbled rye and it is the best sandwich in st. Pete! Always fresh and the staff is very friendly. This is one of the few sandwich shops where you can get fries instead of chips and they are very good. (More like potato wedges than fries)

The block burger is amazing!!!! I don't know what seasoning they use but i have not had a better burger anywhere. I have never been disappointed with the food and the service is wonderful. Ps. they deliver.

Super duper divey, but just so good. A burger is not really a burger unless you can hear your heart begging for mercy as you as eat it. Sandwich Block will give you just that. My one complaint is, as a lady, if I'm the ONLY person in your restaurant (which I normally am), are you really so lazy that you can't walk my burger to me instead of making me come to the counter when it's ready?
(4)Nalani K.
They have the best burgers, fried chicken, and fries! Oh can't forget their famous honey mustard, yumm!!!!

Your standard lunch diner. Staff and employees are pleasant, sandwiches were reasonably priced.
