I had a party of 12 come in for a bachelorette celebration and they were so nice and accommodating! The drinks are yummy and the staff is very friendly.

We tried this for lunch today and it was a good experience. Service was good. The grits and shrimp was amazingly tasty!

Great service from a bartender in a kangol hat, didn't get his name. I usually stick to craft beer so I wasn't sure what to order. The bartender asked what flavors I like and suggested the perfect cocktail. Drinks were a little more expensive than most places I usually go to but after seeing the amount of effort that went into my drink and how great the bartender was and how well made the drinks were, I thought it was absolutely worth the price and a good value. Very nicely decorated interior too.

This is definitely my favorite bar in downtown St Pete. Great drinks, food and atmosphere. You've got to try their cocktails, they're $10 and up but definitely worth it. My favorites being the Perfect Pear and Basil Smash. It's a great place to just chill out on a weekday night and a great place to start your night on the weekends.

Love this bar! Still smells like fresh wood too! Def try the New York Sour. Bartenders are very knowledgable and quite friendly.

I walked in on a Friday night before a concert place was packed yet still received amazing customer service. Sat down at one of the lounge table and was immediately acknowledged by a bartender. Nice scenery, looks like a swanky speakeasy and emoyees are dressed the part. Great craft beer selection and really nice selection of whiskey/bourbon. Food was nothing to write home about. Nice presentation, not too long of a wait, but cheese sticks(wedges) came out frozen in the middle. Quickly fixed but once properly warmed were oversalted. Sliders were nice. Overall great experience

If you want great upscale drinks for the classy crowd come here. The tapas out of the world great. Old fashion was best I have had across the US. I will bring business clients here in a heartbeat.

My husband and I are not "spring chickens", but we love to Par-Tee. The server immediately welcomed us and asked about our drink preferences. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. The beer selection was wonderful, the liquor selection divine. The bar food, even though it was a small selection, was excellent. I had never wanted to try pork bellies (the name turned me off.) Dan ordered it, I tried it,and we now have a convert. WE highly recommend their pork belly sliders! I hope they continue to add a few more delicious tapas. These folks have it together and are very engaging. We'll be back often.

There are not to many places in Downtown St Pete that can be creative behind the bar, but the folks at Cask & Ale really take pride in their work. The food and drinks were outstanding. If you're like me and like a spicy drink ask Meagan for a "Whatcha Talkin Bout Willis"...great blend of heat and sweet!

This was the nicest place I visited on a recent bar hopping adventure during First Friday in St. Pete. The crowd was at least polite enough to say excuse me even though it was packed. It's probably harsh to judge a place off of an exceptional event night, but I enjoyed it and would love to go back. There is a list of specialty cocktails, but no prices listed which is something I'm never a fan of. I'd like to know how much I'm going to be paying! I loved the interior design and the bartenders' wardrobes. It was a little difficult to get a drink, but it was understandable since the place was probably over capacity. It took longer than normal to get four simple shots, but I know they were trying to help as many people as possible. I'd estimate about 15 minutes for the four of us, and another 5 to get checks. For as crazy as it was, the bartenders remained cheerful and the place still left a good impression. I can't wait to see what it's like on a normal night!

I can't help but keep going back. It takes a long time to get a drink but it's worth the wait. They muddle this and juice that then they pass you a little magic. I love the craft cocktails. The Tuna Poke and the edamame are outstanding. We go about once a week!

I like going to the cask and ale if I'm going to be out "late". Always a fun crowd. However, the drinks are super expensive, but good. I like coming when someone else is footing the bill (did I just say that?). Bartenders are generally friendly. I had one bad experience with one bartender who was not so nice. I don't think she is there anymore. I was there on a random wednesday recently and there was a birthday crowd complete with a stripper. She didn't announce herself but it was quite obvious when she started grinding on people, then chairs, then the floor. I thought this was a little odd for an upscale place but I'm assuming it doesn't happen that often. It's a very nice and intimate setting and would be great for making a good impression on a first date. One of my favorites in St Pete! Bring $$$!

I'm from Orlando so the only reason I found my way here was because of Yelp. Wanted to get some eats before hitting the Dali museum and was not disappointed by the brunch experience here. My girlfriend had a mimosa with her shrimp and grits and I opted for the crab cake Benedict. Both were excellent but the shrimp and grits were on another level. The man in the kitchen came out to ask us what we thought and he shared some of the ingredients with us which was pretty neat. Unfortunately we weren't able to try their highly recommended bread pudding but that just gives us a reason to come back. The place was empty while we ate but I'm going to chalk that up to it being barely passed noon on a Saturday. The bar was stocked and we were watching them make all their stuff fresh; cutting fruit, making sour mix. All in all, a must try while in St. Pete.

This place has been our Tuesday night go to. They have a beer or liquor tasting every couple of weeks. Jason, Alec, Tom always Kill it on the cocktails and Frank knocks it out of the park with his food. I recommend the pork belly steamed buns and the beef sliders. Ever wanted a place where everybody knows your name with beautiful weather...than look no further. Come on down and see the guys at C & A.

I wish I lived in Downtown St. Pete because I love this bar. Stopped in recently before heading to a concert at the State Theatre. They have tons of great cocktails that range from $10 - $13, I recommend "The Jam" if you like bourbon. For eats, I had the Beef Sliders... you get 3 for $12 I believe which doesn't seem like a great deal but they are delicious and pretty filling. Until next time!

Great place to grab a cocktail or a beer. The atmosphere is very similar to Mandarin hide but smaller. Great variety of interesting cocktails or various beers including craft beers.

Without a doubt, the best bar in downtown St Pete! The cocktail list is to notch, each drink better than the last. The whiskey selection is killer and the knowledge of the mixologists behind the bar is exceptional. They always have great suggestions not only for the crafted cocktail list but also if you are looking for a new concoction they will happily work with you and you won't be disappointed. The food is also excellent! We had the portobello fries and chicken tikka marsala which came out quickly and both were delicious. They obviously take the same pride in the kitchen as they do at the bar. Both sides utilize really fresh ingredients that make for tastes and flavors that really pop. I definitely recommend going here during of times where your patience can be rewarded and you can enjoy their product. When the place packs up, it can get really crowded and fills with the rookie drinking crowd. Regardless, do yourself a favor, and put this place at the top of your to do list. You can thank me later!

I'm female the music blasting at Cask & Ale was even too girly for me. However, I love the atmosphere, location, and super friendly service. An overall warm and welcoming feeling, right off of (near) Central is a breath of fresh air. Very different energy than some of the other mixology caves I have been to on the strip. Buttoned vests and suspenders galore. The drinks are in the $10 range and strong, not sweet, and overall very tasty. I had the Berry Bush and tried the Cask & Ale Old Fashioned... all of which put me in an excellent mood after a long day at work. Taps are visible from across the room, so no beer menu needed. The other menus are easy to read and clearly written on wall chalkboard, the mixed drink menu and the food menu were both looked awesome, a good read. That food menu tho... I was stuffed from the sushi place next door and still considered ordering.

This is one of my favorite bars in Downtown St. Pete. If you read the descriptions of what's in the cocktails, it sounds like some pretty bizarre concoctions. I can assure you they are delicious and worth a try. The Huckleberry Fizz is my favorite! The atmosphere here is part of what makes it such a cool bar. There's also a lot of good craft beers. This place is worth checking out.

Cask and Ale is a new bar located in the same place that was formerly known as the bar "The Independent". I joined a group of friends and family here recently to celebrate a friend's special birthday (apparently as of today they have only been open about a week, so very new still). When we arrived, we were a bit early for DTSP terms (about 7:30 PM) but although they didn't appear fully ready for guests, they greeted us warmly and served us all upon arrival. Inside, it has definitely been remodeled since the new bar has come to occupy the space. The bar has been moved to the side wall and the other wall is lined with tables and booths. It's a very small place and got crowded quickly. The decor was warm and inviting, I really liked the unique wood work of the walls and the vintage designed wallpaper in the back near the restrooms. As far as the prices go, everything was average price for the area. Cask and Ale offers both beer and full liquor bar. They have many options for draft and bottled beer and some interesting and unique cocktails as well. I ordered an angry orchard. When I was served my beer and took a sip, I quickly realized that the bartender had given me something else (later found out from the check it was a Fat tire), which ended up being okay with me so I just drank it and enjoyed it! I also really enjoyed the music they were playing here, the only way i can describe it would be "hip-lounge music meets middle eastern flare", but whatever it was, it was right up my alley! We didn't stay here for too long as it was filling up quickly, but I think everyone in our group enjoyed the feel and the atmosphere here. I'll come back again.

This place is awesome! The vibe, the music and the location are all what Tampa Bay needs more of! The drink menu was excellent and the bartenders are really friendly. The space is not huge and fills in quite nicely. We went on a Saturday night so people were constantly coming and going. It is definitely a good time and I will be heading back.

Great drinks and friendly staff! This prohibition themed bar has a lot of great scotches and cocktails you won't find anywhere else. The cocktails are made with great care and fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is relaxed, the decor trendy. I like this place.

Pretty cool place. I loved the interior vibe. I only stopped in for 1 drink and I grabbed an old fashioned, and it was great. The bartenders were cool as well. No complaints.

We were sent here by a young bartender from the Hilton and what a pleasant surprise. The chef is the "bomb". The sweet potato chips are light, crisp spicy and sweet all at the same time. The pork buns are out of this world presentation is beautiful and the taste superb. Lamb chops delicate but delicious. The crew behind the bar couldn't be nicer they are a bevy of gorgeous and knowledgeable people. I would recommend this place to everyone belly up to the bar and eat to your hearts content.

Great concept bar- but needs some more time to iron out the kinks. Bartenders weren't very attentive and drinks took forever to get. It reminds me of a mix between the Bends and Mandarin Hide but it almost seems like they're trying to be like other bars and haven't really found their identity yet. Will try back in a few months.

I've visited several highly rated coctail bars in the last 2 years and in St. Petersburg this is easily my favorite choice. Interesting and entertaining mixologists, a good feel and great crowd. Next time I'm downtown I know where I'm heading

I LOVE this place! The drinks are stellar and the service is pretty awesome. I try and always find the owner and stand in his line for a drink. In a city where everyone acts like they're too cool to serve you, It's soooo hard to find a legit professional bartender in St. Pete. This one actually smiles at you when you order, makes the drink in front of you, and takes the time to make it right. He seems like he actually enjoys what he's doing and treats it as a craft. I love people who love what they're doing. I also love fancy booze. My only tip would be to go early-ish so you can get the best service.

Boyfriend and I popped in here for a drink and I didn't want to leave! Could not choose from the list of yummy cocktails listed on the chalkboard, so I lobbed a challenge for the bartender's favorite drink involving bourbon. Score. She nailed it - Twice. LOVE the industrial vintage decor which creates a sophisticated yet fun and laid back, culture and atmosphere. Right up our alley! Anxious to try the tapas and/or brunch.

The Cask and Ale is a surprisingly fresh little bar located where the old Independent used to reign. They have done an excellent job in renovating the space, which now stands out with its rich wood detailing and trendy, upscale aesthetic. In addition to a great beer menu, they serve an interesting array of cask-aged cocktails and high end liquor. The food, which so far appears to be mainly in appetizer and tapas sized portions, was excellent, if a little overpriced. Some of their condiments are even made in-house, and my favorite pick so far is the pork belly in steamed buns - yum! The only reason I am not rating them four or more stars is due to the unnecessarily rude treatment we received from one of the bartenders; the rest of the staff was extremely friendly and professional, but she worked very hard at ignoring us in favor of chatting with her friends, was very dismissive and condescending, and never brought us the requested drink(s) - for what reason, we honestly don't know. We would go in again only if she is not working. Other than that one misstep with staffing, the Cask & Ale is a great addition to the local bar scene. We will probably be back, regardless.

Nice place. They have some creative drinks / cocktails to choose from along with a very extensive selection of alcohol. Ordering from their drink list drinks range from 10 to 15 bucks each. Kinda pricey for their size but I guess you need to pay for the creativity and execution somewhere. The bartender Jen was super nice and knowledgeable. We didn't eat but did look over the menu and it seemed to be equally intriguing and creative

  • Ryan T.

Loved the intimate atmosphere here. The cocktails were really good and all very affordable (I think most are $10/each). I would recommend going on the earlier side because it gets pretty busy around 9 and tables fill up quick.

didn't actually get a drink or some food here. walked in and only 8 people were at the bar. stood there for 10 mins while the ponytail haired guy talked about nothing important with his friends. he didn't even acknowledge us. the girl was nice and said she'd be with us in a minute but she seemed to be the only one working as ponytailed hair guy did nothing. decided to walk out before we ordered because at 15 mins of waiting I decided this place wasn't deserving of patrons. that guy should be fired.

Only four for now. This will be a five star bar very soon. Visited on a weekday evening and had a great visit. Service is a big deal to me and Cask and Ale has three terrific folks providing top notch service. Bartenders Jason and Jen were quick, friendly, and knowledgeable about their beers. While there's not a dozen craft beers on tap, there's a respectable bottle list that is sure to have what you need. The bar has a fantastic atmosphere inside with beautiful wood covered walls, rich mahogany colored bar and chairs, as well as a homey, soft lighting. Chef Ian came out of the kitchen to give Jen a taste of something he'd cooked up in the kitchen and offered my wife and I a bite as well. It was a creamy bite of delicious grits that he made from popcorn! I love me some grits and this one bite of popcorn grits was spectacular. We had dinner plans elsewhere that night, but we will definitely come back to enjoy Chef Ian's fare. One of the things that keeps Cask and Ale from getting a fifth star from me is that their "cask aged cocktails", yep cocktails, aren't ready just yet. It takes several weeks for them to age properly and that's still a couple of weeks off. Nevertheless, I look at it as one more reason to come back and see them again soon. Great service guys - see you soon!

  • Sylvester M.

I like the food, the drinks and their wine and beer selections are great. I have been here three times and every time the service by the bartenders has been terrible. I have sat at the bar to watch bartenders walking by you like their wearing blinders. I was not there at a prime time maybe eight people sitting at the bar. The bartender seemed more interested in her conversation with her friend. This is due to either poor training of the bartender or very poor attitude the bartender. Either one is unforgivable. Let me help you, if a patron comes to the bar to get a drink and you're busy, acknowledge them so they know you saw them. Patrons will wait longer and be happier(tip better) if you at least acknowledge them. Even if you just make eye contact and tell them it will be just a minute. It's not hard. I wouldn't recommend this place, unless you enjoy being ignored or treated like a second-class citizen.

  • Charles S.

This is a great place. It gets busy, but never really packed. All the staff are knowledgable and quick. Really tasty cocktails as well as great beers in both bottle and on draft. But, the real kicker for me and what keeps me coming back, other than Jen, is their pork buns. Words don't do these justice so I won't even bother. Just try them and thank me later.

Really good selection and menu, but go early before the rush hits this place because it gets pretty busy. I went there yesterday with a friend and it was amazing-- good drinks, decent service. I'll go back when I'm in town next.

Cocktails were creative and tasty. A tad expensive, but you get what you pay for in terms of real bar-tending. Maple Old-Fashioned was a notable stand-out.

Very creative, tasty drinks. This place can get packed on a Saturday! It was squish up against each other, make best friends, kind of packed. I'm sure if you come earlier in the night, it isn't so crazy. So what makes this place worth it? The drinks! They have a great selection of drinks. They even have a menu! I got the Berry Bush which was delicious. We also got our friend a strawberry drink, that wasn't on the menu, but we just explained what she liked. It ended up tasting fruity and fresh. Completely surpassed my expectations. I would definitely start my night here, enjoy a few drinks, and then go someplace a little less crowded! Next time, I'll have to try the food!

Awesome cocktail bar with incredible attention to detail. I got the Floridian, which was their local take on a Negroni (with carpano bianco oh yeah!), and it was perfectly crafted and served in a chilled glass with an ice sphere. My girlfriend got the Ginger Ginger which was an awesome tall and refreshing drink which was really well balanced and not too sweet. We got the steamed pork buns, and the flavor was the perfect complement to our drinks. We really enjoyed the decor as well, with great lighting and an old-school sliding ladder to reach the top shelf (which is really high!). My one gripe was that the music is a tad too loud, and the TVs don't really jive with the rest of the decor. But from what I've seen, this is the place to beat in St. Pete!

WOW! What a find. Beef sliders and steamed buns are incredible! Bar staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and take pride in the bar. Cant wait to return to explore more of their drinks. Had the huckleberry fizz and some great beers. Get their early because its small and looks like it will fill up quick.

  • Alex P.

Solid place to go for a bite to eat by yourself. Food was prepped well and beer selection was great. Stay away from the Ginger beer, it was the pits Bartenders are actual real bartenders mixing brinks, not just bottle poppers.

  • Justina M.

Fun bar. I love how the place is decorated. I am not one for buying liquor drinks, but I was intrigued by how their drink list was displayed, and ended up getting one. Their speciality drinks are pretty pricey but a lot of work goes into each one and they taste delicious. Have a few beers on tap as well for the non-liquor drinkers.

Love this place mainly for its variety of cocktails and the classiness of the place. Looks upscale compared to other bars on the block. I would say this place is my favorite bar in town! I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a nice bar to hangout with your friends.

This is probably one of my favorite spots downtown. They have great crafted cocktails the mixologists create some excellent libations. They have a large selection of whiskey. The food is also amazing. I recommend the Brussel leaves when they are in season. They also do an occasional spirit tasting on Tuesday evening, it is a fun educational time.

  • Nilay S.

The food is fresh and delicious. Excellent beer, cocktails and service. The Mac and Cheese, the steak, the chips and just about every thing on the small plate menu is worth the trip to St. Pete from wherever in the world you live. The most value food dish of this place is the Mac and cheese. It's fresh, creamy, and it melts in your mouth. It's the best mac cheese I have ever ate. It's the simply the best and we ordered a second portion. Frank, the Chef, talked directly to my friend to accommodate his food allergy and cooked up the best small plates we ever had. The bartender Sue was a delight.

  • R B.

What to say about my favorite watering hole? I started coming here to avoid another place. What stroke of good luck. With Jeff, Jeremy, Meghan, Sue and Jen they extended their hospitality and expertise to either setting up my simple needs of Bulliet 10 neat with water back or going whole hog with a Smokey Washington. It is my favorite place.

  • Axis S.

Excellent, and my go-to for when I want a nice evening in downtown St. Pete. Full disclosure: I've found the staff worth befriending, and the cocktails I receive are rarely on the menu except when I specifically request a favorite (Sazarac, Rye Manhattan, Jet Pilot). The bartenders are top-notch, friendly, and professional. But sometimes, you just want whisky/bourbon/tequilla on its own, and brother, this place can deliver. I'm not sure who they paid off, but the rare and wonderful upper 10% of what's out there is available here. There are some decent taps, also. My strongest advice, however: DO NOT make the mistake of thinking you need to eat somewhere else before showing up here for a drink. The food here is brilliant, and while it's called "small plates" the honest truth is that the portions are appropriate to a normal human stomach instead of being SuperSizeMeStupidly large. I would come here and drink water happily as long as the food showed up the way it always has so far. Seriously - as someone who usually sits at the bar to have a meal elsewhere, this is as good as it's gotten for me in St. Petersburg. Very Highly Recommended.

I meaaaaan I feel like from the good reviews that maybe I'm an anomaly for having a bad experience. Perhaps I need to see this place in the light of day, it could be a different vibe entirely on a different night too. But I honestly didn't have a very good time on a Friday night with my friends. I thought the bartenders were uppity and snobbish and honestly I stared at a bartender for 20 minutes without any kind of acknowledgement that I existed. Finally my boyfriend caught his attention and he was kind of rude when he asked a question. He basically shoved the menu at him like "here, look, I don't have time for you" even though it really wasn't that busy of a night. I'm not sure if I'd go back...
