Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This is the next Mexican in The area hands down. The chile rellenos are amazing. The enchiladas are tasty as well. They have an almost dry run sauce on them that is out of this world. This is real deal Mexican. Very clean considering the area it is in I would have expected the inside to be dirty and run down but not the case. The downside is that there is no fountain drinks. Canes coke only

Went for lunch based on yelp reviews- the food is perfect and prices are great! Try the 3 taco meal and pinto bean side.

Los Amigos is one of the best in Ruskin. The shrimp dish is highly recommended. Great food

Pretty happy with this find nearby. Real authentic Mexican food-- none of that Tex Mex stuff. Tacos are cheap-- only a $1.50 each regardless of the type of meat. It's a quarter more if you want a flour tortilla instead of a corn tortilla, which I tend to prefer. They give you a big cup when you order the agua de pina, which tastes pretty fresh and I can see the pineapple parts in the drink. Their chips are thick and perfect for dipping in guacamole. I've never seen a legit gordita before (just the ones on Taco Bell) and the meat & toppings are pretty good, but I'm not too much of a fan of the corn patties. Next time I want to try the rib & enchilada platter (woot woot short ribs!) and their bistec ranchero. Their hours on Yelp may still be wrong--- it told me they closed at 9pm on the day I went, but they were closed by 8pm.

Lovely waiter, delicious huevos rancheros, guac and pico. Hubby had chicken quesadillas that he really enjoyed. Beans are the real deal. Would definitely go back.

Excellent. Authentic Great service. And great with our kids. Loved the guacamole. Everything fresh.

Good food, nice waitress lots of types of meats clean on inside. No foutian soda only from a can the way it should be. The menu is good nice and short basic the way it should be

Do not be swayed by the exterior, the food and staff were exceptional! You must try the guacamole! And pico de gallo was extremely fresh! 5 stars for sure! I can't wait to come back and try the breakfast!

Real Mexican real close. The food and portions are very good. Great guacamole and charra beans! I had the burrito fajita. It was very good. It is not tex-mex.

Very, very good. Decent prices, quiet, clean and above all, delicious. My son got the fajitas, chicken, steak and shrimp. I got the tacos, beef, ground beef n chicken. Wasn't crazy about the chips n salsa though.

Absolutely wonderful! Been in Tampa Bay area for 20 years. First really good true Mexican food we have had. No Tex-Mex here. Van

Friendly service and great food. So far everything I've ordered here has been good. Prices are fair. Good for sit down or carry out. I even stop in real quick and buy dozen tamles on way home sometimes.

Stopped in for the first time the other night with my daughter...took a little convincing to get her out of the car, as there isn't a lot of curb appeal, per se. DON'T LET THAT FOOL YOU, this place is legit, and the food is fantastic. Started off by trying out the tacos, one of each to sample - personal favorite was the Al Carbon, they were about as good as it gets in my book. Continued on with some dinner samplings and I just have to say that everything was spot on - Los Amigos, you earned another fan/customer, I will definitely be back, and anyone who is reading this should definitely stop in too. SO, SO happy to have authentic Mexican food this close to the house.

Authentic food. Friendly service. We stayed in Ruskin down at the resort, but were looking for some other food options and this came up on Yelp. Our group of 8 was very happy with our experience. This place isn't glamorous, but you'll get some amazing food. Fresh chips (still warm) and salsa for the table when you sit down. You can get water or soda or you can bring your own adult beverages (we brought some beer and wine). Entrees come with salad, rice, and beans. The salad is just some shredded lettuce, but the rice and beans are great. Red spanish rice and your choice of refried or charro beans. The charro beans were almost the best part of the meal. Slighty salty, cooked with bacon and onion I think. I ordered the tamales and my husband had the chicken tacos. I was expecting two tamales, but actually got three. So yummy. And way too much food - I had to box my third tamale up to take with me. Others around the table tried the burrito, the enchiladas, and then three had the chef's special. For the special you can pick your choice of any three entrees to sample, or have the chef pick for you - they opted to have the chef pick and all seemed to like their selection (tostada, enchilada, and the third I can't recall). The server also brought some sauces for us to try - a very very very spicy red sauce and a green cream sauce. The red sauce had a great kick, but I preferred the green sauce - the spice was more subtle and it went perfectly with my tamales. Two in our party are gluten intolerant. Though the server wasn't sure what that means, they made sure to order corn tortillas and avoid other things that might be cross contaminated. One of them (my husband) also has to avoid dairy (and some other things). Neither of them seemed to have any reactions, so the kitchen did a good job of keeping everything separated. Lastly, you can't really beat the price - it was less than $80 for 8 adults with only one person ordering a la carte instead of an entree. Wow. We all agreed that if it hadn't been our last evening in town, we would have come back over the restaurants over at the resort.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I was very disappointed with the service I received while there. the kid behind the counter was friendly but I asked if they could make me chorizo tacos and was told no. why not? you have chorizo and of course you have everything else needed. my girlfriend asked for a cheese quesadilla with refried beans. we again were told no. again I ask why not? you have cheese and you have refried beans. why not make a paying customers what they want? After that I wanted to leave but my girlfriend wanted to try it. so we did. BIG MISTAKE!! My weekend plans got canceled because my throne required assistance being held to the floor. I've eaten alot of Mexican food made by me or someone else. I know reheated food when I eat it. I know the taste of Pico that was not stored at the correct temperature. LAST TIME I EAT THERE! kudos to everyone who loves it. I myself will avoid even looking at the building again.

Awesome local Mexican place. Very kind and knowledgeable staff. They explained the different types of chile sauces and their flavors for my husband's enchilada. He opted for the green sauce. I got the chicken flautas. Both dishes came with fresh, crisp, clean lettuce, tomato and avocado slices. It's refreshing to see fresh produce used. I'll never eat salad dishes from chains (Applebee's, chili's etc) again after getting sick of them multiple times. They gave us free thick chips that I think are small tortillas fried and cut up. They may have been a bit old but thats no biggie to me. Everything tasted authentic and very fresh. We loved it. The place reminded me of the little mom n pop joints I used to go to as a kid in Puerto Rico. We'll def go back.

Good Mexican food served by friendly people. Next to a bait and tackle shop in a run down strip center. Much of the clientele is Spanish speaking and some park their work trucks in front. It really does scream authentic. The first time we visited was with neighbors. The hosts knew to bring in bottles of wine and we had a great time filling up a long table and trying all sorts of things from the menu. Since then my wife and I felt like going out for a no hassle dinner. We grabbed a bottle of wine and ordered dinners. Bring your own wine glasses. A great time and very good food.

A tucked away closest to authentic Mexican joint featuring truly delicious dishes. One could say this is a hole in the wall sort of place located next to a bait shop in a detached and somewhat deserted strip of stores. If you can get over the intimidation of the barren exterior and courageously open the door and walk in, you will be greeted with some of the mouth watering smells that will make your taste buds water even before you sit down. The menu features the traditional Mexican - tacos, quesadillas, plates of grilled skirt steak, rice, beans, appetizers. One of the hidden stars at this restaurant are the Soup - in house made from scratch brothy with large chunks of vegetables and hunks of meat ( beek, pork, chicken ) or shrimp, seafood. The soup have the perfect thickness of broth and well balanced with salt and taste. The vegetables are of perfect consistency of softness and chunk. Get the Horchata to drink and be sure to order one / two tamale which are perfectly steamed and bursting with flavor. Los Amigos doesn't offer much in ambiance, the clientele seem pre-dominantly Spanish speaking - all great signs of a truly favorite Mexican food joint. The serving staff are polite and helpful. This place is MUST GO for close to authentic tasting Mexican on this part of town. Go here for the great food and reasonably priced items that is sure to please. Los Amigos is a truly one of my favorite amigo for restaurants.

As suspected, the soups bumped our review up a star. We visited for lunch and tried a variety of soups, asking the waiter for his favorites. Sure enough, we were sold. I can't wait to go back.

This place is the best for authentic Mexican food if you're headed somewhere on i-75 near Tampa. It's located about 3 miles off the interstate. But, worth the drive. At the waitress's suggestions my husband and I slipt the combination plate. Although we don't normally eat meat when a server tells me what to do, I feel compelled to do it. Can't remember all the things on the combination plate due the Mexican food coma I'm in right now, but everything was good. We also had a side of guacamole, which was fresh and yummy. Another Yepler recommended the guacamole, and I must second this recommendation.

Great Mexican food that is amazing fresh! Get the spare rib plate with enchiladas.. The greens also have a little heat to them :)

Los Amigos has friendly service and a clean environment.Awesome chicken tacos! Great homemade chips and salsa! The homemade melon juice was outstanding! I look forward to their breakfast on my next visit.

We did take out from Los Amigos tonight. My partner had the tacos with fajitas, and I had the egg and potato tacos, with refried beans and rice. We also had an order of the chips and salsa. The tacos, beans and rice were terrific. The chips were average. We would definitely go back. The wait staff was very friendly.

I lived in Mexico City for 8 years of my youth, so I know what real Mexican (not tex-mex, "gringo friendly") food should taste like. This, mis amigos, is as close as i've found in this area. The big test for me are the tacos al pastor. There are several ways to make these seasoned pork taco delicacies. The traditional way is to have a big hunk of seasoned meat on a vertical stake that slowly rotates as it's cooked. This is how they do it in the streets of Mexico City and it gives it the authentic taste. Although they don't do it on the stake, the taste is the same. Combined with homemade corn (just say *no* to flower) tortillas and real Mexican "frijoles charros" (bean soup for my monolingual amigos), ricas enchiladas verdes, this place delivers authentic Mexican to a side street of Ruskin. Last time I went, the owner was cooking in the kitchen, so you know he's got his heart invested in the place. Boycott Taco Bell and support this local business. Either way... in about 20 years, tacos will replace hamburgers as the official American fast food.

100% authentic ... Super clean and amazing food!!! U won't b disappointed. I have a juice bar so I know what good quality is and Ruben and his wife are it!!!!

Excellent authentic Mexican food! This place is off the beaten path near a liquor store and well worth the trip. I had chicken tostadas and my boyfriend had the chicken burrito with rice and beans, both were delicious. The guacamole is the best we've ever had. The prices are so affordable I felt guilty eating so well for so little. I will definitely be back! :)

We just enjoyed a great meal at Los Amigos! Food was excellent and plentiful! Service was great! Thanks!
(5)Marceline B.
So delicious! The food was amazing and the service was fantastic! Great prices and wonderfully authentic food; if you're anywhere nearby, stop in and have the gorditas!
(5)Gail M.
A great gem of authentic Mexican cuisine! All food is homemade and delicious. They serve the best guacamole I have ever eaten. It is made to order. Soups are comforting and satisfying served with onions and cilantro. Homemade tacos rolled on site! Restaurant is run by an extremely friendly husband and wife. Highly recommend this clean fun restaurant
