Cute little buffet restaurant. It kinda reminded me of somewhere Id go to with my grandparents.i know they serve dinner too, but I can only comment on their breakfast, which was good. The buffet had a nice variety. I'd never had grits before, and they had two types to try. I figured I'm living in the south, and now I can say I've tried them. Pretty good ;) I had a tiny bit of almost everything... Except what I really wanted which was the french toast. Um, yum! Sadly, I'm working on losing baby weight so That was a no-go. The fresh fruit was good though. I definitely think we'll go back. Next time, I'll opt for the one plate option, which is such a great idea! Our server was friendly and attentive... And very talkative. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with good comfort breakfast food.

I am torn here. The hot food is good and some items are great chicken is great. Sweet potato casserole... Dessert selection is nice. Salad bars I normally love, but I don't get salad here for some reason. Tea is good. And service is friendly enough. The parking is awful and you probably have to park in dirt. But my main issue is you have to walk by the back of kitchen and the dumpster and man how it stinks!!! Does not make me want to eat the food. Not sure what they were thinking when they designed the place... After much deliberation, I have felt some of the food that I originally thought was amazing feels like generic buffet food. But heck for a buffet it's great. It's better than Golden Corral, it's cleaner, and nicer inside, but not as awesome as mamas cooking! Would I go again if I'm in area ? Yes? Would I drive 40 minutes to visit like I did with the lakeland one. No...

Pretty good place for breakfast buffet. Inexpensive with a variety of choices. During the time I went kids 2 and under was free. Nice friendly atmosphere with lots of fried dishes!

I've been a few times to Fred's Market, a Southern comfort food buffet restaurant located on 301 (Brandon/Riverview area). They have a few different options: you can either pay to eat as much as you want ($11 lunch/$13 dinner) OR pay a lower price to make just one trip to the buffet (one salad, one dessert) OR pay for the Blue Plate special (another one trip deal) or pay just to eat from the salad table OR pay just to eat from the veggie table. You have to pay $2.50 for drinks but as any professional buffet eater will tell you, don't drink much so you can eat as much as possible from the buffet to get the most value. They have daily specials (check their website for these) such as chicken pot pie and honey BBQ wings on Mondays, country fried steak and pulled pork on Thursdays. As I mentioned, they serve Southern food including fried chicken, ribs and sirloin and sides such as sweet potato casserole and corn on the cob. The food is pretty average for the most part. Nothing that will blow your socks off. However, I really like their dessert table that has various types of cookies, pies, cakes, banana pudding, etc. Always save room for dessert! They also have a breakfast buffet till 11:15am but I haven't made it for that. Service has been very spotty the times I've gone as far as ordering a drink/refills/getting check. But overall, it's a good dining option for the area. The restaurant has a modern country feel. Seems like an oxymoron but when you go there, you'll know what I mean. Worth checking out at least once especially if you like buffets.

Growing up in Tennessee, I never knew "southern food" was a thing. There, it's just food. It wasn't until I moved to Hawaii and experienced culture shock, that I realized how good the food is I grew up eating. Now, living in FL, southern food is still surprisingly hard to find. Fred's has a good selection of different southern dishes, and they know how to make them right. The only thing I didn't like was the macaroni & cheese. It was nice seeing the cornbread being served in the cast iron skillet it was cooked in. Just like my grandmother used to make. I make my cornbread in a cast iron skillet also, but I'm sad to say, mine is not as good as Fred's. I like how there are different prices depending on how much a person eats. If you usually only get one plate from a buffet, there is a lower price for that. If you hit the salad bar once, the main buffet once, and once to the dessert bar, another price for that, and even an unlimited option, all priced good. On different days, there are different items on the buffet. Check it out before you go to make sure you get the best buffet for you.

I looked online and saw this spot. Amazing food with great flavor. I came on a Sunday and it was packed. I felt like I ate at a Grandma's house for Sunday dinner. I will definitely be back again.

The hubby and I went for the first time to experience their breakfast buffet. They had a lot of items to choose from, for e.g: fried foods cooked in peanut oil such as chicken, pork chops, fish, & green tomatoes. They also had grits, corned beef hash, breakfast casserole fresh baked biscuits and other typical breakfast items. Of course there was dessert on the menu...bread pudding and cobbler! To many other items to type and to also choose from.

Fred's Market seems seems like an oxymoron. It's a buffet where the food is quite enjoyable. When I think of buffets I think of a place that I will begrudgingly go to because it's cheap and/or someone else wants to go. Fred's Market is completely different. When a group of my friends wanted to get together in Brandon I was actually the one that suggested Fred's and it worked out great. First of all understand that this is southern food we're talking about. There are a lot of fried/fattening items available. This is not a place you want to go to if you're trying to stick to a diet! The fried chicken, yeast rolls, mac n cheese, etc will be quite tempting! Their policy on pricing is interesting. I'm not a big eater so I was intrigued to see that they have an option where you pay less if you just take one trip to the salad bar, one trip to the main buffet, and one trip to the dessert area. After getting a huge plate of food I don't want to go back so this works out great for me. The one thing that is a disadvantage to this system is that if someone tells you that you missed out on a wonderful item you're out of luck because you can't go back and get it. I definitely recommend looking at the entire buffet before you make any choices because there is so much to choose from! You could also opt to not get the salad or dessert to save money. One trip to the dessert area doesn't mean you can only get one dessert. Each time I've gone I've asked for more than one item (they serve dessert to you) and it wasn't an issue. Don't judge me. I'm looking forward to trying their breakfast buffet.

Trying there breakfast for the first time, bacon is very thin and crisp, items on the buffet are fresh and replaced in a orderly fashion common there are not too many items on the breakfast buffet and they're all served to lose my soul bowl to remind you of a home style dining experience. You can also have to type of cereal with your breakfast. Overall the Donnis Frances about average there's nothing really to write home about there's good food in an ordinary dining area. I was surprised to find there was no country fried steaks on the menu but country fried catfish .

  • Katherine Y.

They give you the option of a bottomless buffet or a one-trip buffet, which is really convenient for those who like the variety of a buffet but can't stomach 4-5 plates of food. The ribs come right off the bone and they're not completely drenched in sauce; it's perfect.

I recently took the family here for the first time. It's quite a hike for us, but there are simply ZERO quality Buffet restaurants near us, so we made the 40-minute drive. It was definitely worth it...this is a very good Buffet place. I tried a little bit of everything, but the real star of the show is definitely the Fried Chicken which is really, really good. The mashed potatoes went nicely with the chicken as well, though the Macaroni & Cheese was a massive disappointment. The service was excellent and the place is a lot cleaner and nicer than you would expect when you see it from the outside. As you drive by, you think to yourself, "What am I doing here?" but the bottom line is that the food is pretty darn good. So this is definitely a traditional Buffet I would recommend. Now I ask you guys...is there ANY other traditional Buffet in Tampa worth eating? I'm not talking about the Asian places or pizza places, but real old-fashioned Buffet. Is this the only place other than the hopeless Golden Corral???

This place is overrated, at least as far as their dinner buffet is concerned. I haven't tried their breakfast yet, but I plan to because people seem to rave about it. The dinner food is just ok. If you have ever eaten at Golden Corral, this place is similar in quality. It's easy to fool yourself into thinking this place is better just because you are dining at a non-chain restaurant called Fred's. Don't be naive... Golden Corral has an edge over this place in quality, it's cheaper, and there is more of a selection. By the way, this does not mean I like Golden Corral. In fact I don't eat there anymore, just as I likely won't have Fred's Market dinner again. Spare ribs: Just ok... I had one just to say I tried them and didn't take another one. Ribs are a type of food that the first bite of should be so good that you end up eating the whole tray and stuffing yourself only with ribs. Fried catfish: Don't even try it... its pretty bad. It's dry, overcooked, probably frozen to death for weeks before defrosting and cooking. The tartar sauce that comes with it is complete garbage as well. Mac and cheese: That was good... not great. I had seconds, but not thirds. It is more of a Mac and cheese casserole than anything else. It holds its shape rather than splitting apart when you put it onto your plate. The top of the casserole had some sort of breading which was alright, I guess. Fried chicken: That was very good. In the improbable event that I came back again, I would eat more of that chicken than anything else. It was nice and moist inside, the crust was crispy and golden brown, and it was well seasoned (good flavor with just the right amount of salt). Pulled pork: Mediocre... Golden Corral style;) It was not dry, but not super moist, not super tender, but not tough either. Flavor was mild, but it tasted better with bbq sauce poured over it. Peach cobbler: That was pretty good. Nice and warm, flavor was there and texture was nice. The crumbly top layer was good as well. The ingredients are not quality (the peaches looked too orange, and most likely were those artificially colored peaches in syrup that come out of a can), but nonetheless those lower quality ingredients came together in a more than acceptable dessert. Service: Not very good. There were times that I had my drink empty for long enough for me to get antsy. The waitress was usually out of sight so I had to wait until she came back to ask for more napkins and a drink refill. The service was there when it wasn't needed and wasn't there when it was needed. The waitress acted like she didn't want to be there. In fact, nobody there really seemed like they wanted to be there. I'm a good customer service junkie and at Fred's I didn't get my fix. I didn't discuss all the food items I tried at Fred's, as that would make this review way too long, but I highlighted enough to give you guys a good idea of what this place is all about... and I repeat... this place is overrated. If it were not for the peach cobbler and the chicken saving the day, this place would get a 2 hands down! Happy Dining!

Love love love this place!!!! Love ALL THEIR FOOD! Breakfast is amazing. If you get a chance try out Grandpa Johnsons in Plant City. Same company amazing food! I love southern home cooking...my waistline doesn't, but you will not be disappointed!

My favorite restaurant in the Brandon area. Every time I go to the Tampa/Brandon area this is a must stop on my list! The restaurant is buffet style and they have a few different pricing options. You can do the salad bar only, you can do a "one" trip to both the salad bar and the hot bar or you can do unlimited. The wait staff is great, plates are usually cleared while you are up getting your additional plates; drinks are refilled without having to flag someone down. Prices are relatively inexpensive and this could be another reason for the long waits on the weekend. Do yourself a favor and eat here at one of the best places in the area!

  • Pekepoo M.

So very overrated. There is no way that anyone with a reasonably developed palate would enjoy the food at Fred's Market. I've only eaten their dinner and very skeptical about trying the breakfast. Boy how do I miss buddy Freddys in Brandon.

I don't like buffet's,,,except for this one! Great southern food in a old farm feel building. Rocking chairs to wait in outdoors if needed. The buffet is always full of fresh foods like, fried chicken, pot roast, ribs, fish, mashed potatoes, fried green tomatoes. greens, corn casserole (awesome) fresh rolls and on and on and on,.. They also have a large salad bar, but I have to admit I go right for the main buffet so cannot comment on that. A server brings you whatever you'd like to drink (for an additional cost of course) and clears your plates as you run back for seconds, or thirds. Then on to the dessert bar where there is always a fresh cobbler or pie, cake, puddings and ice cream. Ugh,, I'm full just thinking about it. Prices are fair, about $10 per person (you have a few options on this depending on your appetite). Want a taste of the south? Head to Fred's !!!

Came here at the suggestion of a friend who lives near here (I'm 30 min away) and man was it worth it!!!! I had the full buffet and for the first time I didn't even look at the salad bar lol. It was a good salad bar but the rest of the buffet was so yummy! I had the fish, fried and broiled, ribs, wings, Mac n cheese, corn casserole, fried green tomatoes, seafood gumbo, chicken pot pie, spaghetti, red velvet cake and peach cobbler with ice cream and had to roll out of the booth lol. Everything was so good! Nothing left on my plate (ok I got small portions of those things but i had to try them all) Only thing that I would have liked to see was fried okra and hush puppies and it would have been heaven :)

5 stars no doubt!... if you like southern food! I arrived on a normal Thursday lunch and got out on a holiday! I was greeted and led to my table. They told me that if I clean my plate and don't waste food I'd pay $2.00 less for the buffet that ended up being $9.59... I almost cleaned the next table's plates! On my first plate I had Fried Chicken (Awesome, crispy, tasty), grilled tilapia (good), BBQ ribs (delicious!!), corn casserole with bacon (Bacon!) and a cup of Seafood Au gratin Soup (my omega 3 for the rest of the year!). By the time I was finishing my 1st plate I started to worry that I couldn't try all the delights and I knew then that I had to be picky of what I'd serve on my plate. For my second plate, I had Mash potatoes with gravy, collard greens (exactly how I like'em), Country Fried steak w/ gravy, Fried catfish with tartar sauce, cornbread and green beans. I felt I needed fresh greens so I added some Mac n' cheese to my plate! I started to get really emotional with each bite and thought of all the times that I spent with friends and family in Georgia and Florida... I left my emotions on the side and went with commitment! Now I needed to, somehow, save space for the dessert section, where they have somebody assembling your dessert. I realize that I could eat one more thing and still make it safe to the dessert.... This Colombian went once again for a bowl of Yours Southern Collard Greens! I missed the lasagna, the roasted turkey, the salad bar, black peas and ham, hot rolls, among others. Leaning on the column next to my table, I was able to get up and slowly walked towards the desserts. I had a portion of warm Peach Cobbler with vanilla Ice cream and whipped cream, amazing! Thanks Maria, you have a piece of my heart. According to the American Heart Association, I'm too short for my weight. There were some fellow patrons at this restaurant that I'm sure have been accused of this condition. Although the competition was tough, the buffet always remained fresh, full and clean. My server did a good job and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I really felt like a long weekend was ahead after a mandatory nap. I'm fixin' to go back soon and all y'all can expect my upgrades on this review.

MMMM!! SO GOOD!! My fiance and I have been wanting to try Fred's for the longest time and finally went for breakfast!! We decided to go with the buffet because everything smelled and looked devine...and BOY WAS IT! I tried the hasbrown caserole, peach cobbler, cranberry walnet muffin, sausage and a few other things and let me just say that everything tasted amazing!! My fiance loved all his food as well! I would love to come back for dinner sometime :)

Always great southern food, place always seems packed, we usually have about a 20 minute wait anytime we go. Not a place I may recommend if you like to watch what you eat. Most options here are not healthy. But the food is good, their corn casserole is amazing.

Wow! Double Wow! This place is great. A true southern buffet blast from the past. You name it, they did it right... Fried chicken... Ribs...sweet rolls... Amazing grits... Mashed potatoes and gravy... Pecan pie. It is not to be missed!

I made a special trip, over 45 minutes, to visit this family owned buffet-style restaurant that I've been hearing so much about, and it was definitely worth the drive! We came at the brunch hour over the weekend. So, we were allowed the opportunity to taste from both breakfast and lunch spreads. Everything was delicious! They have the mouthwatering ratio of sweet and salty down to a science and the perfect combination of cornmeal breading and seasoning in each dish. Fred's has every essential southern comfort food imaginable from fried green tomatoes, chicken, catfish, okra, bacon and sausage; cornbread, sweet potato and hash brown casseroles; freshly baked buttermilk biscuits, cornbread, yeast rolls, apple pie and peach cobbler a la mode; corned beef hash, slow cooked turkey, pot roast, BBQ ribs, roasted vegetables and collard greens. The restaurant was packed late on a Saturday morning with a 20 minute wait, but we were seated and filing our plates in less time. The server who explained the buffet process and brought our drinks was very friendly and attentive. Fred's is a casual, appropriately priced and well kept restaurant. They are even conscientious of food waste and price their buffet accordingly. I'm looking forward to another visit. I'd love for them build a location in Pinellas county. They'd kill it on north 4th Street in St. Petersburg! I'd surely gain 50lbs should that ever happen.

Fell in love with the BREAKFAST BUFFET!!! I was hesitant to try this place out because I thought the prices were a little more expensive. We decided to try it out one morning and we were glad. We got there right as the doors opened up on Sunday and were quickly greeted and sat. They explained the concept to us and we began with our buffet adventure. I think I tried literally everything on the buffet. None of it was unsatisfying but some was better than others. My favorite items were the biscuits, the cut sausage, hash browns, muffins, and the fried chicken. The food was hot when we ate it and the selection was abundant. I would definitely like to go back for dinner and try their ribs. The service was fast, our drinks were never empty and the place was CLEAN!!! Now I see why the line is out the door on the weekends!

Don't let the outside fool you, driving by, it looks like your average run of the mill quick stop. As soon as you enter you see a clean, modern design and some super friendly service. This buffet was definitely worth every penny, from the great coffee to the southern style food, the breakfast was one of the best I've ever had, hands down. With a 21% tip, me and my wife ended up with a $25 check.

O.M.G. This place is AMAZE-BALLS! What an amazing place to go for some cooked from scratch, country, finger lickin' good food! Staff is usually friendly and the buffet is awesome. The cornbread...TO DIE FOR! The place is usually always crowded, which speaks for itself. I am glad they picked this location because it's better than the old bars that changed ownership a dozen times, no longer looks trashy, and only minutes from my house. A MUST TRY place!

Vegetarians and those watching your cholesterol beware....this restaurant is not for you. If you are looking for artery clogging southern food then you have come to the right place. There is a small not so impressive salad bar but other than that, everything on the buffet is either fried or cooked with some kind of animal fat. It is hard not to be tempted by a buffet that has fried chicken and fried green tomatoes but after giving this restaurant multiple tries at the insistence of others, I found I always walk away feeling bloated and ashamed of myself. Over all I generally just don't feel good after eating here. It is a good spot if all you are craving is fried chicken. They make very good fried chicken and decent mashed potatoes. I also enjoyed the corn casserole though I am not so sure what is in it. I had high hopes for the fried green tomatoes because I am usually a huge fan and I have never seen fried green tomatoes on a buffet. Unfortunately I found them to be either cut too thick or not cooked correctly. They are hard and sour much like raw green tomatoes. Desert here is also always disappointing. Unlike the rest of the buffet, it is not self serve and often times you don't really know what is being offered. You walk up to a desert station and the server stares at you until you name something. She does not tell you what she has, you have to guess based on what other people are having or what you can see in front of her. There is a chalk board behind her on the wall but I didn't notice it until I had returned to my seat and not everything on the chalk board was in front of her, not everything in front of her was on the chalk board. The apple pie is served cold. I love hot apple pie but I'm not such a fan of the cold stuff. They do have a menu that you can order off of if you are not a fan of buffets but are dragged in by other people. The menu includes items on the buffet served to you at your table as well as hamburgers and salads. I will probably be back but only because other members of my family are fans. Next time I may try a salad from the menu because I honestly can not review those, they might be amazing.

Such good food! I wanted to try everything but was so full after the second plate I couldn't! The mac n cheese is amazing, the ribs are so good and tender and the salad bar, I didn't get any but looking at it made me assure myself I would be back again simply to dig into the salad bar. And the apple pie and vanilla ice cream was great! My kids and I loved the fried green tomato and they killed their red velvet cake and sherbet! We will most definitely be back on a regular basis!

Ice machine must not be working, but that's where the ice was kept. When bags of ice were brought to that area, bags were slammed on the floor to break the ice and then the bag was sat inside the machine(on top of other ice after being slammed on the floor a few times) then the bag was dumped. Food was great as usual, desert area was full of flies and not a decent selection.

Amazing southern food here! Fred's is like walking into your southern cousins family reunion and eating up all the delicious food. When they say made with love they aren't kidding. This place is super affordable too. Their fried food uses peanut oil so be careful. I am allergic to peanuts but was able to make due. This turned out to not be a problem for me at all except on the fried chicken. Everything else was still amazing and I will definitely be coming back to Fred's.

I have been of fan of country cooking since I was a teenager. This place has some pretty great stuff; that family style buffet is something great if properly maintained by the staff, at times it seems is hard for them to keep it up as it is very crowded/limited space and the demand is so high. I have eaten here well over a dozen times since opening last year. A very good secret here and something to remember when you are not so in the mood for buffet food, when want to satisfy that fix for a great Burger; they have one of the best ones here!! plain, great, simple well executed all american Burger...Ask for a side order of 1000 island dressing, it finishes it up so well. With time, this place has gained some popularity which is wonderful for them, they are located in a very diverse area where blue collar and white color workers come together to lunch or dinner, sometimes the local outdoor workers (at times it's local folks coming out "casually" to dine) stop by after all day labor, some of these folks frequently are just plain dirty. It seems as if they don't have the time or staff to keep up with the cleanliness of the food bar and floors, food walked on all over the floor, folks reaching and eating from the bar. If you are there trying to eat with your office coworkers or other professional associates, its just not the best place for that anymore. It gets too sloppy and most of the time you are bumping around with everyone specially in between the salad and hot food bars (limited space). Dinner time can be a better time to visit here, or Sundays.... The staff is always friendly, helpful and frequently check on us. Some great favorites here are the fried chicken or fish, the vegetables are always freshly cooked, great salad and soup bar. From the Board menu ( a la cart): the burgers and sandwiches are really good and fresh, we've tried the breakfast on the weekends as its a new addition for them and they have a great selection on the buffet . Enjoy!

Wow for the first time a place says home cooking and actually delivers ! True southern fried chicken... Banana pudding... Perfect fried green tomatoes ... And the decor is not overdone. Thankfully there isn't twangy country music in the background but a nice mix of Sheryl Crow, Black Crows, etc.

A friend of min told me about Fred's Buffet and I am glad she did! This place is GREAT! Very friendly and attentive staff. The minute my glass was set down empty, my waitress came to fill it. In fact every staff member we encountered was friendly. This alone made it an enjoyable experience. Unlike many other buffets the food was fresh and hot. In fact, I think they had the most tender fried chicken I have ever eaten on a buffet. The buffet also had roast beef, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, baked and fried fish, a huge array of salad toppings, even a huge dessert bar with Blue Bell Ice cream and home-made banana pudding! Look forward to going back!

I have been to Fred's about six times. The restaurant always looks clean and the staff is very friendly. Let me tell you a little about the menu, they have a set menu with dish prepared or you could choose the buffet with the blue plate one trip option (its cheaper) or the yellow plate for multiple trips. I love the food. And whenever I am there, the food gets switched out every time so its always fresh and warm. I would recommend for anyone who loves southern cooking.

I am having lunch at Fred's Market Restaurant in Riverview FL. The food is fantastic and the service is always FIVE STAR. I highly recommend this place if your looking for down home Southern cooking. Most people order from the buffet but you can order from the menu and they have special prices for Seniors. My server today is Brittani Frye. Brittani is a very lovely young lady with a beautiful smile and makes all her customers feel at home. When ever you are in town and looking for a good place that offers several selections of food at a reasonable price that you can bring your entire family then come to Fred's in Riverview. It's located on US 301. When you come make sure you ask for Brittani. If she is not here then ask for Tori or any other server. They are all good and will make you feel at home. Tell them that DAN THE CAB MAN sent you.

Ho boy, get out your stretchy pants because you're going to need it big time. I'm so glad my friends introduced me to the wonderful world of Fred's market! A consistent quality southern comfort food buffet at such a great price. Do you have family members that just really hate buffets? Well, bring them here anyway. While you stuff your diplomatic face silly, your dining companion can order off the a la carte menu. It's a win win for everyone! Anyway, the buffet line has a variety of yummy things such as fried chicken, ribs, broiled salmon, corn casserole, mashed potatoes, fried fish filets, collard greens, mac and cheese, soups, salad bar, and a dessert station. Of course there were more items, but it would take me forever to remember and type it all out. While everything I sampled was delicious, the corn casserole was a major standout. (This is my subtle way of saying to try it, :D) Service is sweet and sincere. I bumped my review down a notch because our group reservation of 30 people was carelessly given away 7 hours before our actual reservation time. Yes, I know that sentence doesn't make sense, but the communication from the manager who took our reservation to the hostess of that night seems to have been lost in translation. Whatever it was, just becareful when you make your own group rsvp. Enjoy!

Have been here for supper and breakfast. No matter the meal, the bread is outstanding -especially the rolls at supper and the biscuits and pancakes at breakfast. So glad they have peach cobbler at both! Fried pork chops with gravy are sublime. For Southern food, especially a buffet, this place is tops!

Avoid this place! Waited over half an hour to seat 7 on a Sunday morning. Receptionist had a "so what" attitude. We tried twice to get seated, watching 8 groups after us get seated before us. Receptionist turned and laughed with one of the waitresses because they could see we were getting annoyed. Spoke to the manager and the precise words out of his mouth were "Uh, OK." Food is pretty crummy, even for a buffet.

This place is better than expected. The service was really nice, the place is clean, and the food is excellent. I was pleasantly surprised that they have such an exceptional salad bar alongside everything else they offer. Not as thrilled with the mac and cheese as everyone else seems to be (no sauce, it's just noodles and melted cheese - not bad but not amazing), but I highly recommend the pulled pork and the corn casserole. The peach cobbler is also really good.

When I first moved to riverview about a year ago, friends told me about this restaurant and that I had to check it out. I'm so glad I did because it's now one of my favorite restaurants! It's home style cooking and the staff is very friendly. Best buffet hands down.

Really awesome place. The food is abosolutly homemade and feels like my mom is in the kitchen. Came here for Sunday lunch and there was a little but of a wait but it was well worth it. The buffet kind of threw me off, but again this is not your typical buffet. It is a buffet on "roids". No comparison for any restaurant around here...absolutely recommend it for anyone looking for a great home cooked meal.

Good food at a great price! Really enjoyed the fresh cooked green beans and sweet potato casserole and corn soufflé. A great place to take friends and family. Good southern cooking at a great price.

We are not normally buffet fans but Fred's is not a normal buffet. This is more like going out to the country and visiting your favorite auntie who has spent all day cooking and really doesn't mind doing it. The decor is country, staff wears plaid and the food choices are usually southern specialities mixed in with a few standard favorites like fried chicken and mashed potatoes. On the table tonight was pot roast, so yummy over creamy grits, fried green tomatoes, several veg choices, Mac and cheese, salmon, country fried steak and pulled pork. These were just a few of the items. All were hot, fresh and very tasty. Also available are the usual salad choices and a couple of soups. Desert had peach cobbler, red velvet cake, pecan pie, cup cakes, banana pudding ,all made on site, and ice cream. Real ice cream not that chemical soft serve garbage. Fred's dishes up real food for real people.

Eh...it's ok. I've been for dinner and breakfast. Fried chicken was my fave. I've never chosen to come here I always get out-voted The breakfast seems expensive for what it is.

You come here for just one thing, the southern cooking! Ribs are always great here and can't wait to try the breakfast buffet some day. If you're fitness conscious, this will be your cheat day. Don't be an ass an one star this place because they didn't have your favorite vegan meat replacement.

I love Fred's for breakfast or supper. They have the best buffet ever. If you go on the weekends expect a wait time of 20 or more minutes its wort the wait.

Came to Fred's at lunch and took my friend for her first meal in Tampa. Everything on the buffet I tried was delicious. They had a corn casserole, banana pudding, and catfish with tartar. The entire meal was great though, will definitely be coming Back. I also had a great nap after I got home!

Love this place! Affordable 6.99 breakfast buffet that has all the southern favorites like fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, fried catfish and my fave the peach cobbler! I'm so glad I discovered this place! And the staff are friendly , the place is clean and good for groups.

The food was absolutely delicious and despite it not looking the greatest on the outside it's very quaint on the inside! The fried chicken is the best and absolutely loved the corn casserole. The food is great and so are the people, definitely a great southern place to grub!

Soooo good! Candy yams! We walked out stuffed and very happy! Took a chance on a local comfort food spot, we were weary of the buffet but we were very pleased and surprised by the quality of food. Everything was good and we will definitely be going back.

Top notch as far as buffets go. Good variety for a southern breakfast/brunch. Great tasting food, reasonably priced, quick in and out. I'll definitely go back if I'm I the area.

This place it's great! I've had my family there several times and every time the food and service was terrific. I think I've had just about everything they have to offer and there are no complaints. Just keep in mind that this place gets busy in the evening so you may have to wait for a seat but it is defiantly worth the wait.

Can't get much more south than this place. I don't think it's for authenticity, but they even spell it "tarter sauce." :) Biscuits, gravy, corn bread, grits, pie. You're going to leave in pain. Just know that. But it'll be a wonderful just left mama's house and she made me clean my plate kind of pain.

This place is RIDICULOUSLY good. There hasn't been a thing I have tried here that I wouldn't recommend. One recommendation though, if you are gonna eat here, COME HUNGRY otherwise you will regret not being able to try it all :)

I was so glad to discover a Johnson family restaurant closer to my home than the ones in Plant City. This legendary family knows how to do dining and this Riverview location is no exception. I have come here now at least 2 dozen times since discovering it (by accident) in Early November of last year. The staff are some of the best around, which is honestly quite shocking since they're all mostly high schoolers. The food, well, what is there to say that hasn't already been said? Fresh, hot, flavorful, mouth-watering, old fashion, southern, family recipes, traditional...who am I kidding the food is best summed up as: FREAKING INCREDIBLE. The restaurant is exceptionally clean and I really enjoy the layout. As someone who frequently dines solo, the small booths near the buffet are great as they don't make me feel bad when I walk out of the restaurant and encounter large groups waiting for a table/booth (nothing is worse than 1 person taking up a 6 person booth). My chief complaint was the beverage glasses. However as of tonight I found they did away with the skinny, 12 ounce glasses and replaced them with wider 16-20 ounce glasses. I went from needing 7 to 10 refills to only needing 4 or 5. Also the signage from 301 is inconspicuous. They'd be better off permanently renting the billboard in their parking lot than relying on their small sign on the major highway out front. If you've ever been to Johnson's, or any of the other Fred's locations you certainly have to try this location.

This is a nice spot to visit every now and then. Good food. Good variety. Nice staff. This place stays crowded but I guess that's a good thing. It's a bit pricey for a to go plate because they price by weight but it's worth it if your not coming several times a week. I hate the location because it hard to leave the parking lot when you park in the front. Other than that this is a nice spot.

The "Waste Not, Want Not" weekday lunch special $9.99 (regular lunch price is $11.99). For the weekday lunch special, you can have all you care to eat and beverage. Generally, I don't like buffets but this one was superb. I enjoyed the carrot souffle (it tasted better than the yams to me), Tilapia, cat fish, mashed potatoes, collard greens, and zucchini mixed veggies... The frozen yogurt was yummy as well as the ice tea. This is a casual restaurant with good home cooking at an economical price (especially if you are hungry) -- you get a lot of food for the money, so bring your appetite. The waitstaff was attentive during my visit, which is always great. Warning: I tried for visit the restaurant on Sunday (after church hours) and that was a big mistake -- it was a 1-1.5 hour wait. My family and I dined elsewhere (i.e., Open Cafe in Tampa) since we wanted down-home-style cooking. I will try again to but a little earlier to test the wait. This is on my "visit again and again" list.

After reading reviews of this place on my neighborhood FB page, I decided to check it out. FANTASTIC. The service was great - Everything we had from the buffet was delicious. The hot rolls right out of the oven were so good. The food at the buffet is constantly being refilled. It was similar to the Paula Dean buffet at her Savannah restaurant, but so many more options and much fresher. Will defiantly be back again. It's my new favorite place.

This place is good for good southern style food! I just can't do this type of food often because it's not healthy! They have everything on the buffet. The fried chicken was excellent, the corn casserole was to die for, and the the biscuits are sooooo good! There is a salad bar (that I barely noticed) and a dessert bar with good ol' southern desserts. By the way, you can also order entrees off the menu if you don't like buffets. The place is super clean and the service was excellent. I would love to come back and try the breakfast buffet on the weekends.

I have been looking for a restaurant that can cook some good collard greens, boil cabbage with just the right seasoning. Finally, we found Fred's. Ever since then, my family and I usually eat there once a week. My kids love the b b q chicken wings, Mac and cheese, mash potatoes and their choice of dessert. As for me ... I load my plate up with collard greens, boil cabbage, field green beans, a little grits and beacon and I'm done. I love this place because they not only have fresh good food but a nice CLEAN restaurant and restroom. I'm picky that way.

This place has went way downhill, cold food, no a.c. waited over an hr for a table. The other Fred's are great just not Riverview. I give it another yr or two and no one will eat here. Such a good brand going fast.

Just moved here from Texas, and this little gem isn't to far from our new home. Great service! Fresh, hot and amazing food! The buffet is always sparkling clean and they constantly have servers changing out good so it is never empty. Desserts are also one of a kind for a buffet. Home made pies, cupcakes and some ice cream to top it off. Highly recommended.

Like the 5 star rating says..."As good as it gets!". I've been to A LOT of restaurants but this was a great experience. It started with the great service you would expect from a down home, country place. Very friendly. As soon as we were seated, our waitress (Wendy) came to greet us and get our drink order. Now, I'm a coffee snob and am disappointed more times than not in the coffee from most restaurants but this coffee was outstanding. It was piping hot, not too strong and not too weak...just right. They had me at the great cup of coffee, but then came the food. The buffet had a full spread of all the breakfast fares you would expect and it even had fried chicken and fish. I know it was breakfast but I had read reviews that the fried chicken was good and it did not disappoint. I'm also a fried chicken snob and really like it. Bottom line, I will be back. I wanted to go back the next day to take my wife for Mother's Day but didn't want to ruin the experience. Will go back again soon though. I recommend this place to anyone who likes good down home country comfort food. You will not be disappointed.

Not usually a fan of buffets, but this place is awesome. First all the place appeared very clean and the decor was fresh and charming, it was fun. Food was always fresh, large selections of every comfort food you can imagine. They even have a great salad bar and dessert area. All for around $14 per person. It gets busy, luckily we got there before 6pm on a weekday but there was a wait when we left. I think this place will do well and I know I will be back!

Been back a few times since my first review and the food and service is consistently spectacular. It's a bit pricy for a buffet but the freshness in the food is every so prominent. From the smoked bbq pork to the fried catfish with homemade tartar sauce to the corn casserole to the bread pudding or red velvet cupcakes for dessert, this place always exceeds expectations. One trick that the waitress gave us last time is that if you like some of the "lighter" foods, try take out. You can get in and out fast and since it's priced "per pound" you can get more food for your dollar than some other places. Also - they are somewhat lenient on their "waste not, want not" policy. Last time we went, my step mother consistently didn't finish her plate (there were 6 of us and she was the only one) and so she kept squishing her left overs between our plates hoping the waitress wouldn't notice. They had to notice and still charged us all the cheaper price so I would say they are definitely about customer service as well as good food!

This was the best soul food buffet I ever been to in my life... Food was delicious and fresh. Its pricey but its worth it... I paid 16 and change with a drink and buffet; however I found out Mon thru Fri from 2 to 4 its only 10 and change and they serve the same food except ribs....

People in the Riverview hood have been waiting a long time for this location to open and I don't think anyone will be disappointed. If you've been to any of the other Fred's you know what to expect: Southern cooking at its finest. I love the Riverview location because they've taken Southern Charm upscale. It has that comfy feeling but with a few modern elements. Let's talk food! The food is fantastic. You will find dishes like fried chicken, grits, chicken pot pie, green beans and just about any other treat you can think of. It is buffett style but in the best of ways. It feels more like you are dishing food out of Grandma's pots and pans on the stove. The food is great, the service is very friendly and the restaurant was extremely clean both inside and out. If you're looking for a home-cooked meal without having to cook this is the place. Ask about their "waste not want not" deal. Eat your food without wasting it and get a discount. Enjoy!

I was so excited to try this restaurant after reading the reviews. I was so disappointed. Everything was so bland. I couldn't wait to try the fried green tomatoes, they had no flavor. Left me craving good fried green tomatoes .

Great southern style buffet restaurant. Word to the wise,I would pass on Sundays. It's really busy from the after church crowd. Since the demand is high to keep the small buffet full the quality of the food drops off. The other times I have been it was great. Love the fried fish and chicken. One thing I've never tried was the ribs although I hear they're great. I look forward to ending my meal with a big slice of the Italian wedding cake and blue bell's vanilla ice cream! Then I go home and pass out from my food coma better known as THE ITIS LOL

Went here for lunch on weekday, had the buffet, which is two dollars cheaper if you clean your plate each time :-) The food was great, maybe not a huge selection, but great southern food- fried chicken, country fried steak, turkey in gravy and fried catffish . Lots of sides like fried green tomatoes ,black eyed peas, okra ,corn casserole , yeast rolls, corn bread, rice, green beans and collard greens . Can't possibly list it all, and everything I tried was delicious . They also had a decent size salad bar and a good dessert selection . Servers were friendly and all sounded like real southern girls. I'm definitely going back .

My sister has been begging to go ever since they started the breakfast buffet since she went to the Plant City location many times. I had never been, but I certainly wanted a breakfast buffet, and I was extremely pleased. The buffet was very clean and always stocked with fresh foods, the biscuits were absolutely delicious and probably the best biscuits I've ever had, and our service was great! I particularly enjoyed the cheese grits. The clean-your-plate buffet is a great idea and ensured that we finished our food, although with our big appetite, that wasn't an issue. The less than $10 for the buffet was extremely well priced. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet and I will certainly be back!

Fred's used to be a family favorite because everyone from toddlers to great grandpa could get what they wanted but this is no longer the case. Took the whole family last night to find that the menu had been changed. They no longer offer a kid's menu separate from the buffet so good luck feeding younger pickier eaters since they did not add anything from the kid's menu to the buffet bar. My son pretty much ended up eating rolls and orange slices from the salad bar since neither chicken tenders or hamburgers were available. It just seemed odd especially as the restaurant is billed as a family place. Even having hot dogs would have been great and not cost them too much. The pricing has changed so that you can pay $9.99 for one trip to the buffet bar or $11.99 for one trip to salad bar, buffet and dessert bars or $13.99 for regular buffet dining with multiple trips. I have to admit that I do understand what they might be trying to do with limiting of trips for the lower price options but this didn't work for our family. First, we don't enjoy piling one plate high with a multitude of foods that we may or may not enjoy. Our view towards a buffet is that you are not paying to overstuff yourself but instead paying to taste a variety of foods that you wouldn't get with a single plate order. I realize not everyone shares that view but variety is the selling point of a buffet. I took two pieces of catfish last night then realized that it was cold and soggy so it didn't get eaten and I couldn't go back for the fresh batch. Macaroni was all gone on my husband's trip, so he missed out unless he wanted to stand up there until a new tray came out. My father in law was paying for the meal so out of respect we all ordered the $11.99 option as he did, but honestly it was a much less enjoyable experience all around and we will not return with this new format. The really sad thing to me was that my mother in law, who hates to waste food then asked if we could take our one plate leftovers home in a box only to be told by the waitress that sure we could but they would have to weigh the box and sell it to us by the pound. It just seems incredibly wasteful to take food that is unservable to others and throw it in the garbage rather than give doggie bags. Not like we could go back and get more to take home, this was just from our one trip, it just seemed to make no sense. Anyway the food is the same but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths and we will find a new family restaurant. There was an upside though, there was not the usual long wait to be seated and we figured out why really quickly.

Southern food like your mamma made it. The fried chicken is cooked just right, the mashed potatoes are great wish I had some gravy though. The best dish is the corn casserole its everything a casserole should be. The desserts are bread pudding, brownies, banana pudding and peach cobbler all mainstays of a good southern kitchen.

Food was good, not great but good, price was very responsible and the staff is very friendly. I waited until a weekday to go with my wife because the weekends have VERY long lines, VERY long waits. I guess I expected to much after waiting to go and I'm not a fan of buffet style dinning.

The place is a little more then what I want to spend on lunch but this country cooking is second to none. Everything is served hot and fresh. They are so busy that nothing has time to set. They dont cut any corners its all real food nothing instant. I feel that the quality merits the price. Ive never liked buffets but this one is in a league of there own.

OK, so we just went to the Fred's in Riverview last night (we have been to the one in Plant City) and already I'm planning my next visit. Like NOW, now would be a really good time to go back. This definitely isn't a Golden Corral buffet, this is good food, fresh food, hot and delicious. I don't even know where to start....the amazing fried chicken that is even better than my Mama's? I know, right, shut your mouth! But it is. The fact there there are grits and tomato gravy on the buffet? That my husband said the sweet potato casserole is ALMOST as good as mine? But the piece de resistance has to be the corn casserole. I could literally eat it until I am sick, and think I may have done exactly that last night. Also, the service is good and they have really cute t shirts for sale, too. (Can Openers are for Sissies!). So, why then, only 4 starts instead of 5? The Sweet Tea glass just wasn't big enough! This is a Southern restaurant and us Southerners like our sweet tea, alot. Get bigger glasses and I will happily dole out 5 stars.

Ate here last night for the first time. Excellent food! The food is so fresh and the buffet is so clean! I'm usually not one to go for buffers but it was so fresh and tasty. Even the fried chicken was delicious (let's face it.. Most fried chicken on buffets are an avoided item that's dried out) but not this place! Tried the fried chicken, BBQ wing, fried green tomato, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, roasted green beans, corn casserole, roll, side salad and banana pudding for dessert. EVERYTHING was delicious.
