Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Quite the gem to have in Riverview. I'm a big fan of customized NY style pizza and prefer to avoid large chains like Howie's which seemed to be everywhere I go. Before trying Cappy's, I thought that the best pizza I'd be able to get in Tampa was at Anthony's which is a small but slightly larger chain as we had a couple in South Florida as Cappy's has 5 and all are only in the Bay area. Cool! But of course, the best pizza I've ever found in Florida is Scuola Vecchia in Delray Beach. I'd say from the pizza at Cappy's earned them 2nd place in my Florida book. Now, let's get to the location, parking was ample at Winthrop Town Centre. The facade was darling as if I was on Main Street USA at Disney World or more so like Mayberry in the 60's. The interior was cool, but I found a problem as soon as we walked in. All of the tables inside are meant to seat 4-6 people and none for a single or a couple. There were several families with babies and one parent was kind of rude not to move her baby carrier out of the only available booth even though she clearly saw us. We had to ask her politely to move it out of the booth. You can dine outside, but we opted to dine inside as I'm allergic to wasps which we definitely saw some right before we entered. The menus are homemade with printed food items cut out, pasted on the back of old Vinyl Record music jackets and then laminated. It was very kitschy and hard to read as the menus my husband and I received were very different in terms of how the lists of food items were arranged. They do not carry Dr. Pepper, only Mr. Pibb. We ordered the Cappy's NY style pizza which was to consist of: Italian sausage, ham, pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, and green bell pepper. But we requested to swap out the pepperoni with artichoke hearts instead. We must've waited a good 20 minutes for the pizza but luckily we did order a caesar salad that was of romaine lettuce and creamy Caesar dressing. The pizza arrived steaming hot. It was divine!! After our first slice, we noticed there was no ham, just Italian sausage. We only requested to have pepperoni removed. Flagging the waitress down wasn't helping as she was focused on a larger party across from us. By the time we were full and had 2 slices left, she came over and we were able to inform her then of the missing ham. She was nice to have promptly edited our check for the lack of ham. We had the leftover slices at home later that evening and my gosh, they were still fantastic-- even when cold! I believe we have found our new pizza place!!

Let me start off by saying I'm a huge pizza fanatic! Well... I'M not huge. I do have a few extra pounds around the mid section, but that may be from all the pizza I eat. I used to travel to Chicago often, and every time, I would get a deep dish from one of the many famous pizzerias. To say Cappy's had some high expectations to meet was an understatement. Let's start with the dining area. It reminds me of a Chicago pizzeria; small, tight, and almost a maze. I like places like this with lots of character. They keep it clean, so kudos to them! They also have a vintage freezer with frozen mugs (help yourself I think, I did). To break up the boredom, the have trivia cards at the table. This kept everyone off their phones and interacting with each other, while having a good time. Major bonus points for that! The service was great! Very friendly, and helpful. Our server was even nice when I spilled my water. Oops, sorry for that. The food was good. The cheese bread was delicious! The deep dish pizza (The Cappy) didn't quite live up to the actual Chicago deep dish pizza I'm used to, but it was good. The only thing I didn't like was the Cesare Salad. It was a little wilted. Overall, this place is good, and I'll definitely be back to try the New York pizza.

We were looking for a new pizzeria in the Brandon area, and having read all the reviews on Cappy's we decided to give it a try. Friday is take out and movie night at home so we ordered a pie to go! We ordered the large Cappy hold the bell peppers and a large Greek salad. The pizza was very good, although I am not yet sure it's better than Anthony's, but I'll reserve judgment until I can sit down in the restaurant and eat it hot from the oven! The sauce was good, and the pepperoni and sausage were unremarkable, and I needed a crisper crust. However, the Greek salad was greatly lacking. Several pieces of the Iceberg lettuce were brown and wilted. It was very ordinary, Iceberg lettuce, green peppers, red onion, and tasteless feta cheese. The Greek dressing was sweet, which maybe what masked the bite of the feta cheese. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of this salad, while I love a good Greek salad. A little quality control might have allowed me to over look the rest.

An adorable little pizza spot with a neighborhood feel. The restaurant is very small but has big fans! If you come on a busy night you may be waiting awhile because there are not many tables. However, the wait was worth it. I have to admit, my favorite part about this place was not the pizza, it was the beer selection. Self serve from the cooler with beers you won't find anywhere else or get something on tap if that's more your style but there is a beer for everyone here! The pizza is good too. Get it NY or Chicago Deep dish. Since I already have a favorite NY pizza spot in Tampa, we decided to try the deep dish. The sauce is always important to me and they have a good chunky tomato sauce. The crust of the Chicago deep dish was not very impressive but overall it was an enjoyable pie. We will back again and probably again.
(4)Tracy G.
First time customers. Ordered deep dish, Chicago style and thin crust pepperoni. All I have to say is I wish we had known they were here!!! You can tell they use first class ingredients and plenty of it. The sauce is perfect!!! We use pick up, next time we will dine in. ;-)
(5)Ian S.
This is the best pizza in town. They make *great* thin crust Italian pizza, *and* they make good Chicago style deep dish ("toppings " on the Chicago are really bottomings, as they place the sauce and cheese on top). They have a great selection of bottled beers, and the best part - they're self-serve! Walk in, grab a beer from the fridge, and pop the top on the counter, love it! The owner plays great music too, I heard the Pixies tonight! The menu is small, no problem though, everything is good. They have pizza, calzone, and some salads. The Greek salad is excellent, however I order it without the scoop of potato salad. The staff are all friendly, everyone seems like they're happy to be there, I love when that happens!
(4)Jeff G.
Our first time here. The deep dish pizza is a nice change of pace from the fairly bland ny style available in the area. The crust is crunchy, which is great for a deepdish. Too many times you get deep dish pizza with very thick, doughy crust. The sauce is fresh tasting and seasoned well. Good selection of both draft and bottled beers. Lots of crafts and micros available. The atmosphere is great and service is efficient.

First time going to Cappy's It's a little place. Just a handful of booths lining the walls by the windows. Seating is parallel to the counter/kitchen where incoming guests could order their to go meals. The menus are on vinyl covers. condensed. They don't serve pizza by the slice. We ordered two medium pies which were sufficient for the 4 of us. There are about 6 slices on each pie. As well as a large Greek salad. Ordered one chicago style, deep dish pizza, with sausage. The only complaint was that perhaps the sauce was a little sweet, but that's personal preference. The other pie was New York style, half sausage, half spinach and garlic. It was delish! No complaints about the food and the wait staff was friendly.
(4)Reginald R.
My favorite pizza place of all time. I started eating at the original on Florida Ave in like 1827, but after a long wait they finally opened up another shop in the Winthrop Plaza and I have been enjoying the dickens out if it. The menu is simple... Chicago or NY style Za and some salad options. Service is good and beers are cold. This isn't Pizza Hut so you can leave your coupons and head lice at home. Keep up the good work Pizza Gods. Don't forget to take advantage of the free Double Bubble!
(5)Katie W.
Pizza is great! Lots of options for the pizza. There deep dish pizza is awesome! It takes some time for the pizza to cook, but all and all it's delicious
(4)Christopher S.
This place is the closest you will get to a good NY or Chicago style pizza. And they have a great selection of beer.
(4)David W.
I have been frequenting Cappy's for a couple years now, and that should tell you that the place is worthwhile. The location is nice; the decor is interesting; the wait staff is friendly and gets the job done; oh, and the pizza is fantastic. As well, they have a nice selection of craft beers right by the door. I don't know of a better place in the area to grab a pizza and a beer.
(4)J D.
Best pizza around! Gets busy on the weekends. The ingredients are fresh and staff is friendly!
(4)Timothy C.
The best new York style pizza around. We have had pizza from a few places but this place is the best. The pizza has great flavor and the service was good. We will be back to try the Chicago style next.
(5)Dan N.
The menu comes on an old album cover and is limited in scope which means they can concentrate on really awesome pizza and calzones. Some of the most friendly waitstaff I've encountered and a large selection of canned beer, craft bottled beers and five beers on tap. We got the New York ham and jalapeno with super light cheese and it was cooked to perfection in. crispy yet chewy crust with a thick and rich sauce.
(5)Helk A.
Why have I settled for dry cardboard take out pizza 1 mile from my home when if I just drove a little further a mouth watering scrumptious pizza could be savored? Cappys was excellant, the service was excellant. Our server checked back many times to inquire about anything that we needed or to say we have not been forgotten. We ordered the Cappys thin crust Large pizza. The abundant meats were baked to perfection. The sauce with fresh veggie toppings blended & smothered the meat so perfectly that my sense of smell, taste & seeing were in a heightened fight over which got satisfied first. All I can say was we ate until we couldn't breathe & awaited some digestion to occur for a little more belly room to stuff more in. We can't wait to go back again!
(5)Tony B.
Depending on our craving we will choose to enjoy a NY style pizza or Chicago style pizza. Chill atmosphere where you can walk up and grab a beer from the fridge and request a frosty mug. Reasonably priced and very yummy. Highly suggested you give it a try.
(5)Monica F.
We've been going to Cappy's for the past year and love the quality and consistency of their food and service. We always order the NY Style crust as we are not fans of Chicago Style. The toppings are fresh and the sauce is delicious. We love the Greek Salad but are perplexed with the whole "potato salad on Greek Salad" that seems to be a thing here in Tampa. Others have complained about the small menu but we appreciate that they offer simple, straightforward selections and do it well (similar to Five Guy's concept). The staff is friendly, professional and prompt. The atmosphere is casual and cozy. The only complaint is the volume level when there is a large crowd and some of the tables are tricky to negotiate. If you're not tolerant of small children, go late or order take out.
(5)Tracey Y.
Best New York pie and calzone. Nice beer selection. Always friendly and quick service. We love sitting outside. Go almost every Friday night.
(5)Jenifer D.
This is a go-to for my husband and I! We regularly take visitors here, or get pizza to go; we like the Cappy large NY style (personal preference) so I can't speak to the DD. Also love their house dressing, great for dipping pizza crust! They also have really good, consistent service! We do try to avoid peak times, so maybe that helps, but the combo of good service and delicious pizza makes this a regular stop for us.
(4)Edward P.
Tried both the NY and Chicago pizzas. They were both really tasteless and boring. We wont be returning here. When you call to order the daily special for take-out make sure that you ask for the lower price on the phone or they will charge you the regular price. Nice.
(1)Tamie W.
The BEST deep dish pizza we have ever had! Sauce was made to perfection and crust was perfectly done! The staff was happy and very nice.. Always a plus! This will most definitely be our go to pizza place!
(5)Vanessa M.
Excellent and fast service. The Greek salad was fantastic! Breadsticks were very good. My family and I had a large NY style onion and pepperoni pizza. Very nicely decorated pizza place.
(5)Sharie H.
The pizza was pretty good. The wait was a bit much though. Id probably eat here again but it wouldnt be a first choice
(3)Ryan H.
Great pizza joint. Cool environment. Loved the new york pizza and the bubblegum instead of dinner mint was a nice touch
(5)Karen P.
Consistently good pizza, I prefer the NY style and husband likes the deep dish Chicago style but with the NY sauce ( it's a less chunky tomato sauce). We've always done take out but it's a cute restaurant, small and cozy.
(5)Tracy O.
My favorite pizza place in Brandon. I love their New York style pizza. Fantastic pizza, nice atmosphere; great staff and very reasonable prices for the quality you receive. They even have outside seating. I would definitely recommend this place.
(4)Jennifer B.
I have been craving north eastern style pizza and this place hit the spot. I opted to get take out for our family. Really worth it considering when I got there to order the place was hopping and people were starting to wait for table seating. We got my style with pepperoni, onions, and sausage. It was great. I also got a small Greek salad also was great with cheese bread.
(4)Kristi T.
Service is always great. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Food is always delicious. Some of the best NY style pizza....
(5)Jason H.
I've found my regular pizza place. I had heard good things about the South Tampa location but this is my first trip to any of them. The cheese bread was delicious and pretty much a steal at less than $4. Decided on a large NY style with pepperoni, spinach and feta which came in at $15. The price is right because not only are the ingredients incredibly tasty, but this is a giant pizza. Seriously the best pepperoni I've ever had. It's the best of both worlds - you get the quantity that you'd see from a chain pizza place but the quality that comes with a more expensive pie. Like I said, this will definitely be my place while I'm here.
(5)Frank N.
Being a first class pizza snob I had been anxious to try Cappy's. Being a native New Yorker I naturally (third base) prefer the thin crust so I can do the NY fold, love that grease running down my arm. I, however, have been known to down a Chi-Town pie or two. I could never say which is better, they are two totally different animals or distant cousins. Cappy's serves both styles and for our first trip we did the Chicago Deep Dish. This place is nice, but small. I could see why so many people are waiting outside on weekends. The waitress took our order, Starting with a small Caesar which she said was enough for two. When delivered it was indeed big enough for two but was absolutely swimming in dressing. Wife and I really don't care for overly dressed salads. Wife declared "I'm not eating that!" The waitress came over and we asked for a fresh salad dressing on the side please. It was no problem at all and she promptly brought us another no problem. Yeah! Customer service. The salad was fine. The pizza came and as is Chicago style the sauce, it's not really sauce but crushed tomatoes, is on top of the cheese and other toppings. The "sauce" was really tasty, very tomatoey, bright and seasoned well. We had ordered a spinach and pepperoni. Wife complained that it wasn't really a deep dish as the bottom crust was not that thick and their wasn't enough stuff. Ya know some of that may be true but I take things as they are. This is Cappy's version of the Chicago pie. The crust was buttery with a nice flavor, all in all pretty good. For around here it's quite good. We'll go back and try the thin NY style but I know for sure where to go when the Chicago craves hit. As a final note, when the check comes in it's little check dish there two pieces of Dubble Bubble with the check. There are Trivial Pursuit Cards on the table to stump you while waiting for the eats and the menus are pasted to the back of old record albums. I got a Pat Benatar. Good Grief! Nice touches for the kid in all of us.
(4)Grace G.
We ordered a large Chicago pizza with 3 toppings and extra cheese. One of the toppings were completely missing while the extra cheese was laughable at best. The sauce was think with whole stewed tomatoes. We ordered light sauce and it seemed like extra sauce. Not something we are used too. My husband and I each had one slice then threw out the rest. Very disappointed
(1)Lindsay G.
My hubbie and I have been regulars at Mellow Mushroom for years, so when our friends suggested we try a new pizza place, we were hesitant. Boy am I glad we listened to their recommendation! The staff was friendly, the service was fast, they have a great craft beer selection, and the pizza was great! We had a large pie w/ pineapple and bacon. I didn't give it 5 stars, because I think Mellow Mushroom's flavor is still slightly better, but we'll definitely return to Cappy's!
(4)Anonymous A.
Great pizza, service was a little slow but the food made up for it. I have ordered for take out a few times but recently dined in for the first time.
(4)Phillip C.
The best Greek salad I have ever had. The NY style Pizza is amazing along with the service and ambience.
(4)Vino L.
Disappointed. Ordered the Chicago deep dish and the crust was not as pictured here on yelp, was undercooked, and soggy. (see picture) We think they may have confused the crust with their other option, New York style. We were so looking forward to this pizza after a long Monday at work. No such luck. Will give them one more try in case this was an off day (or lazy cook) but overall we were not pleased. Nothing about the crust was "deep dish," it was more like just thick gooey dough around the edges.
(2)Ryan C.
Pizza was burnt and crispy. I remember not caring for it the first time I had it but decided to give it another try. Had very little flavor and tasted like it was baked on cardboard.
(1)Loyd B.
Moved here 2 years ago and had been looking for a good pizza . All I can say is look no further. They have great food , and the staff is fantastic. Love the New York style pizza. They have a bucket below a bottle opener and I have a friend that collects bottle caps for a bar and we asked them if we could have them, and they happily double bagged them for us. Great place to go .
(5)Katrina P.
Cappy's is by-far one of my favorite pizza places in town! I have gone to the one in South Tampa a while back and when there was one opening in Brandon I was very excited it was closer to home! The food: Excellent! The pizzas either come thin crust or thicker crust / Hubs and I don't have to fight over which pizza to get usually. The calzones are where it's at! You can get any amount of toppics inside your calzone and they're huge enough to share! With a prize around $8 for one, that's SUPER reasonable and reason to be giddy! The service: awesome. The staff here is always super laid back but friendly and you get that neighborhood feel when you're at Cappy's The atmosphere: ecclectic with old records and photos on the walls - there's even Trivial Pursuit out to play until the pie is ready!
(5)Olivia D.
I loved the atmosphere, decor, and layout of the restaurant. I also thought it was cool that they put their menu on record covers. As for the food I am a little disappointed. The menu was very basic and they did not offer much variety. We were hoping they sold pizza by the slice, as I was not too incredibly hungry. That was not the case. They only serve whole pizzas and the "smallest" size they have is a 9" Chicago style. So that's what we got. Considering it was $10.00 for one topping, we decided to get ham and cheese. My husband ordered a side tossed salad to hold him over until the food came out. He loved it. The house dressing was a vinigarette, and I swear my husband would have licked the bowl clean if he could! When the deep dish came out, it looked delicious, but after taking a few bites it felt like all I was eating was bread with a little bit of cheese on top of it. It left me feeling dissatisfied. I couldn't really taste any of the meat because they diced it up. Don't get me wrong, I love bread! But I don't go to a restaurant to fill up on it. I think maybe if I had ordered 3 or 4 meat toppings it would have tasted more hearty. Overall I am 50/50 with this place. If I return I will order the regular NewYork style pizza. After reading other reviews, I would also like to try the Greek salad. Hopefully these items will leave me feeling a little better about this place because At the moment I would rather order a $5.95 large hungry Howies pizza. It's cheaper and I know it tastes great.
(2)Francesco C.
When I first read about this place, I was a little skeptical, perhaps because of the name or where it is located in Brandon. Don't get me wrong, this part of Brandon is a nice area and the Winthrop Town Center is a tourist attraction with great restaurants and small businesses around. My only beef was the parking. You have to circle many times to find a good spot. You have to share the parking between the Publix, the Green Iguana bar, and the Acropolis restaurant. Was it worth it? YES! Walking in the pizza joint reminded me of my hometown. A good old fashioned pizzeria with tons to offer on their menu. Their Greek salad looks awesome! My friend and I ordered take out pizzas. One was the unmistakable Chicago Deep Dish pizza, and the other, well, the rival a New York style with pepperoni. Once we were able to dig into these pizzas I expected mediocre taste. But, we fell in love with the Chicago! Okay, not fair, I'm from Chicago and truly know the difference between a "real" deep dish compared to the deep dish from Cappy's. Oh don't get me wrong on this either, but the taste was awesome!! Just the "real" deep dish is about 1" thicker than theirs! Worth the try and worth going back to get more!! The New York was great tasting too. Cheese and pepperoni and sauce was mouth watering! I totally recommend this place, for pizzas, calzones and salads!! I forget to mention, a small downfall, when I was waiting for the pizzas, it was a little HOT in temperature in the restaurant because they have an open kitchen to the diner!
(4)T Y.
I ordered a New York style pizza togo. It was delicious! Best pizza I've had in the area! Also ordered a Chicago style togo but my husband wasn't a fan.
(5)Rebecca K.
Love!! Cappy's is my new favorite pizza spot. I love their monthly $10 lg special and greek salad. It's enough food to fuel the man and I for our long runs with a little left over. NY style is definitely the way to go here. The Chicago stye was good, but the crust was a little hard, however, much better reheated! The sausage is my favorite topping, italian crumbled, with spices. Not those little flavorless oblong balls that you find at many other pizza joints to remain nameless! Staff is always friendly and service good. Cappy's also teamed up with Running For Brews for weekly runs on Wednesday nights with lots of socializing after.
(4)Tom S.
Good pie but they need to learn how to make a good ceasar salad, it is not that difficult. The Greek was fine. I hope to try the deep dish tomorrow.
(4)Melissa B.
Excellent pizza!!!! And the Greek salad is the bomb dot com! The service is very friendly!
(5)Benjamin M.
They got rid of the running group... Never getting pizza there again! Your company lost my business
(1)Dusti K.
Excellent place! Appetizers were great. Pizza was very good. Service was very friendly. Took very good care of us the entire time. Beer selection is good. Will definitely be going back again very soon.
(4)Moki C.
It's good. We got a deep dish, and it was pretty good. Prices were reasonable, and service was great.
(3)Danielle G.
Best pizza around. Love there New York style always a great crust. I feel very well priced. Always have my pizza ready for pick up when they say. Only complaint would be there open hours.
(4)Zach M.
There is a reason this place is packed from open to close! Love the New York style pizza. Not a fan of Chicago (personal preference) My first experience was not great but the food was so good I went back. They completely won me over on every other visit. Groovy environment and great food!
(5)Jess W.
Absolutely love Cappys! My favorite pizza hands down in the Tampa area. Delicious cheesy bread and salads, decent craft beer choices that rotate often. Friendly staff.
(5)Matthew C.
Bomb pizza, amazing Greek salad, and fun little trivia cards to play while you wait. Had a New York style with Bacon, artichokes, basil, garlic, green olives, and tomatoes.
(5)Michael K.
We got take out from cappy's tonight, one 12 inch New York cheese (ie a small) and a large Chicago deep dish - sausage, green peppers and onion. This was our first time there, Both pizzas were good and we will be calling this our stand by place. The New York pizza had a good crust with a nice chew and was cooked correctly with a slight crunch, the sauce was good but it could use a tad more cheese but all in it was the best pizza in town. The Chicago pizza was good too but it is not a Chicago deep dish, it should be called Chicago style or Chicago like. The sauce is fantastic, it was chunky, tangy with hint of spice, there was not enough sausage or cheese but that almost could be over looked if not for the crust, it just was not a good Chicago crust. It was dry, too thin and flavorless, it served only as a vessel to transport the toppings. Don't get wrong it was good and I enjoyed it but it not a Chicago pizza and I will probably not get it again. Try it for yourself just don't use it to see if you like Chicago pizza
(3)Shannon B.
Found this place via Yelp, and so glad we did. We tried the Chicago deep dish style, and was without a doubt, the BEST pizza I've ever had! In addition to being tastey, the service was wonderful and the restaurant was super clean (and so stinkin' cute!) We WILL be going back and highly recommend that if you find yourself at the corner of Providence and Bloomingdale in Brandon, that you go too!
(5)Melissa R.
I like Cappy's. Their NY style pizza is crisp, well cooked and tasty. Their chicago deep dish has a very pastry like crust and is well cooked also if you are a fan of that style. They have a delicious salad there too. The menu is not too large and neither is the restaurant but the service has always been spot on as well as the pizza pie. If you want a straight up pizza joint this is your place.
(3)Linda C.
yummy pizza! nom..nom...nom...cappy's...yes please!
(5)Camaron A.
I wanted to try their Chicago Style Deep Dish this time, I was with my business associate and she likes pizza with toppings , as any of you who have read my reviews on pizza, I do not lol I am a purist 95% of the time I eat it. So we ordered 1 medium Cappy's Special Deep dish and I opted for the large regular deep dish. Back home Pizzeria's do offer toppings but most of the pizza they sell is Str8 up Neao or Sicilian, it does not need no topping to enhance the flavor, unless its a Bianca or Eggplant Pizza. Called and they said about 30 minutes due to extra time for deep dish. Cappy's has a bit of a Olde world pizzeria atmosphere sorta like you would find on the lower east of NYC or up on Arthur Ave in the Bronx. When I got back to my office , opened them up and the pizza looked and smelled very good. My reg DD was full of sauce which I love , for me the more sauce the better but as long as if its a good sauce and I have to give them props, the sauce was very good, well balanced sweet and acidic ratio and chunky not too oily either. The cheese was a bit lacking tho I don't like Mozza overload but I think this one needed more. My partner's pizza looked very good as well, It tasted even better , even as much as next time I would opt for the Cappy's Special, This is my issue with toppings, they tend to overtake the main flavors the pizza and you end up with a peppermeatballsausagespinachmushroom mess.... , the toppings on their's complimented the pizza without trying to be the headlining act. Although I did like the Deep Dish , next time I would go back to my roots and choose the NY Style but maybe...with the Cappy's special and see how that turns out.

Good food but eating inside can be a health risk. There is so much smoke with poor ventilation I feel like I'm suffocating. Haven't been back in awhile for that very reason.

Whenever I see a "Chicago-style" claim, I think yeah right and then I have to try it and I set the bar really low because I know that I'm highly biased. We've tried it a few times and while my husband would rather drive over to Orlando and get Giordano's, I'm happy with Cappy's. It isn't the best but considering it's proximity to my home, it's a pretty good contender. Your mind will not be blown away but it'll help you reminisce about those wonderful Chicago pizza places you miss. And if you're from the Northeast, you might not like Chicago style anyway. But on the grand scale of pizza places, this one is fine if you want something out of the ordinary $5 - $10 cardboard crowd.

Pizza here is the best pizza in the area. I'm a New Yorker, and like real pizza - their pizza fits the bill! Greek salad is always good also. I'm never disappointed here - whether it's take out or eat in!

Friendly service, nice beer selection and an excellent Chicago style deep dish pie. We had the large Cappy and a couple of IPA drafts, very satisfied.

I love me some Cappy's!! I have been here many times and have never been disappointed. The Greek salad is a must! My partner enjoys the Cappy's New York style. I personally order a white pizza that is not on the menu. My white pizza consist of: garlic butter on the dough, mozzarella cheese, chicken, tomatoes, garlic and well done. Don't forget to grab a beer from the fridge:-)

Cappy's offers a great NY-style pizza with great tasting cheese, crust, and pepperoni. The cheese had a rubbery taste, which I'm sure NY pizza lovers will be happy with. A large 1-topping pizza is only $12 and is much larger and tastes 10x better than anything from a huge pizza chain, such as Pizza Hut and Dominos provides. I agree with David G. about the harder toast like crust, which might turn off some pizza lovers...but you get used to the texture after having a slice of the pie. Most people complain about Cappy's being cash-only, but I don't think that's really an issue. ATMs can be found all around town including inside the Winthrop Plaza. The employees were friendly and my pizza was ready within 20 minutes of ordering. I really want to try their Cappy's Chicago-style pizza in the future with a friend or two to eat that huge pie.

Excellent place for pizza and they have an assortment of beers. Greek salad is awesome. Staff is great and the place has a retro feel; menus are 33 record covers. I love it! The location is not big so you may have to wait for a seat. Worth it though.

I visited Cappy's tonight for the first time. I had the pepperoni NY style pizza. It was crispy, tasty and reasonably priced. Cappy's beats your typical pizza joint. This will be my go-to place for now on.

Didn't know what to expect here being from New Jersey. I know...pizza snob. Not really, it's just that pizza is relative. When I say this is good NJ style pizza, it's not like the pizza I had in Tuscany (thin crust, super fresh ingredients) nor is it like the pizza at Grimaldi's (super thin crust, really classic). It is like the pizza I grew up with in the NJ suburbs. The crust is tasty, with some tooth, but not cracker-like thin, like you would expect by some of the reviews here. Bottom line: Had a Greek Salad (awesome with a slightly sweet dressing and Feta), a Ceasar Salad (pretty basic), a plain, a peperoni, and a meatball pizza. All were delicious, Greek salad was the highlight of the meal. I ate two bowls. As for the pizza, it didn't blow me away...but it held its own against my suburban NJ hot spots. Go forth and eat.

Terrific deep dish pizza, but we really want to try the New York Style, too. A large and eclectic bottled beer selection. Nice place, good prices.

Best pizzeria in Brandon/Riverview. My husband and I come here frequently and will continue to make this our #1 pizza place. The new york style cappy is awesome, salads are big and delicious and there cheesebread is so yummy! If you're in the area you need to stop and have some pizza.

Greek salad was good, but the deep dish pizza is beyond bad. The crust is tasteless and overbaked. The sauce is liquidy and bland. Do not understand the hype.

We first tried this place in the South Tampa location and then moved to Riverview. We were happy to discover the Riverview location was not too far from us. We have only tried the pepperoni pizza, breadsticks and cheese sticks. We have tried many different places and we continue to come back to Cappy's. We really like the New York style pizza. The price is very food for the size pizza. We have only ordered carry-out but the restaurant looks nice inside. We will have to eat in sometime and try the deep dish.

Oh man. Just devoured 1/2 a medium deep dish cheese. So this is why those Illinois people suffer through those ridiculous winters. I've had Chicago style pizza before, but only at Pizzeria Uno, the chain. This was simply amazing. Not very pizza-like... definitely more pizza pie. I love Mark's Pizzeria for traditional pizza, but this was an experience. One I'll be repeating.

Great pizza! The location is a little smaller than the Seminole Heights location but nonetheless, still the same great pizza.

Great atmosphere, great service, great food!! Loved the self service beer fridge stocked with great selections and the menus on old vinyl covers! Deep dish was excellent....will return again and again!

I was very impressed by Cappy's pizza as well as the service. While we were not a fan of the Chicago style we did love the NY style. I will agree with another reviewer that the crust is crispier but I love it that way. I have traded two other pizza restaurants here in Tampa for Cappy's. One thing li really did appreciate is that we have only been there three times, but the staff remembered us and what we had. That gets a long way for us. Update. Best pizza in the area. Our #1 place.

So, I went here a couple weeks ago and was very surprised being that the hours are odd. I tried both the Ny and the deep dish. Both were excellent! Being a pizza lover, I know good pizza and this is one of the best pizza places! The atmosphere was nice and quaint, the service was pleasant and I enjoyed the experience so much that I went back the week after to test the level of consistency. Again, I was very pleased! The only reason this did not make a 5 is because it doesn't reheat well, the crust gets hard. Definitely try this place so they can open earlier than 5pm :-)

Old fashioned pizza made NY style. No fancy stuff like some other places have. Straight up meats, cheeses and veggies. Their crust is my favorite! Pretty good selection of bottled beers also. Small on the inside but perfect and cozy! I highly recommend this place for GREAT traditional style pizza...the way it's meant to be made:-) They are also working on getting outside seating...even better

Best pizza in Tampa Bay, by far. Order the Cappy. Worth every penny. The beer selection is awesome as well, and the vintage Vespa and Lambrettas overhead are awesome atmosphere!

All I can say is WOW. The deep dish Chicago Style pizza was tasty and unlike a large chain style pizza that starts with a D they used fresh spinach. I have found my new place now for pizza.

My wife and I moved to Riverview in April 2010 and had been trying since to find a good pizza place. We've tried many of the local places but nobody had that "Just Right" pizza.....until we tried Cappy's! We split a pizza with black olives and bacon on the whole pizza and 1/2 onion 1/2 mushroom and it was AWESOME! They put whole pieces of bacon on the pizza (instead of crumbles like everyone else) and their ingredients were FRESH. I tried to eat a slice of my wife's pizza after peeling the mushrooms off however I still tasted mushroom in the slice, that's how fresh they were! I will DEFINITELY be going back to Cappy's!

Excellent delicious more professional gourmet pizza at a good price. The deep-dish is to die for and the new york style is no sloucher either.

Best Pizza in East of HWY 301!! Thin crust extra crispy!!

Very delicious pizza, freshly made. We were there about an hour before closing and were told to take our time. No pressure, just a welcoming atmosphere. We ordered a couple of pitchers of beer and they did 1/2 and 1/2 topping son pizza. Their hours are a bit crazy which is unfortunate. There should be a bigger window in which to enjoy this pizza. Great food, great service, and the prices are reasonable too.

new york style extra krispy with green olives is the best. ive never had a meal at cappy i didnt love. u cant open at 5pm unless u make a killer pizza. i dont care for the Chicago but i hate pizza with lots of sauce and people who like Chicago style tell me its good. cool decore and vinyl record sleeves for menus
(5)Kelly J.
The pizza was delicious! We ordered one large Chicago style and one large New York style and I made a pig of myself on both of them. The staff was friendly and efficient. This place is not fine dining or fancy but way better than your typical pizza hut joint. It's rather on the small side but not too uncomfortable. The menu is limited but the next time we want a pizza, I will be coming here.

Love Cappy's! Great pizza, cool menus. What would make it even better would be if they offered Verner's!
(5)Albert B.
I ordered carry out but my service was very good. Very Good NY Pizza! I also ordered a small Chicago Style pizza as I never had it. To my surprise when I got home the small Chicago pizza was not cut (a little irritating to me) but not a huge deal. It will not keep me from going back when I am in town visiting.
(5)David G.
Cappy's has both New York Style and Chicago style pizzas to service both pizza camps. I tried the New York style pizza. The base of the pizza is a harder toast like crust. I don't recall this style base on the pizzas when I was in NY. Overall not bad, but I suppose that depends on how picky you are about your pizza. Die hard NYC pizza fans may not like it.

Went a second time and it was even better than the first. Awesome service, awesome pizza. Five stars it is.

Great pizza, great cold beer and great folks that work here
