Love this place! Recommend the beef tataki, spicy salmon soy wrap (one of their specials), crispy bok choy and the tuna salad! The food there always taste fresh never had a bad experience there.

Finally an authentic Japanese restaurant not too far from home. The atmosphere is cozy and peaceful. If I'm ever looking to dine - in for Japanese food I will stop by again. I ordered different dishes to try out since I haven't been here in years. I recommend all of the dishes minus the volcano roll.

We had the Miso Ramen with additional vegetables ($1.00 extra, and didn't even need it - it was pretty big.) We shared it between two people and had leftovers. Next we had the Spicy Salmon Soy Wrapped something or other and its was delicious. The texture was very creamy, you can't tell the fish apart from the rice. Not what I expected but so glad I ordered it. We also had a California roll, with cream cheese added, substitute soy paper, substitute brown rice... And they don't up charge for any of that. It's nice to go somewhere authentic and not get nickel and dime'd. We had two large sakes and a Mochi ice cream for dessert and our tab was 55 bucks! This is my new favorite spot and its open until 1:30am! Sake was 7.50 for a large FYI. Don't share your Mochi!

This is one legit Japanese restaurant. The food is excellent, I especially love the curry udon. This is a small restaurant so you may have to wait for seating, but it is never very long (unless you have a large party). The only thing I would point out is if you are going with a group of friends and everyone is paying for themselves, BRING CASH, they will not split the checks up for you! This has caused us some stress in the past and it is the ONLY reason we don't frequent this place way way way more often! I guess it is good for us because we save a lot of money eating at home instead. LOL

What happened to this place? It was my go-to for years, sometimes I would eat here multiple nights in a row. The food isn't good anymore; it's bland and the portions seem to get smaller and smaller, but the prices continue to increase. Nothing is as good as it used to be and it's disappointing. Service is so bad I will never, ever go back. I've tried a few times since the crazy, fit-throwing waitress incident (who now eyes me with disdain for the entirety of my meals now to purposely make me uncomfortable after obviously reading my last yelp review of her behavior-- hey lady, sorry, it isn't working!) ;) Sorry Marumi, you have lost a loyal customer, as well as all of her friends and family, for good. I used to send people your way, but never again. Your servers are some of the rudest people I've literally ever had the displeasure of coming across. Please get an entirely new waitstaff and go back to how you used to make food, or you will continue to lose customers. Bye.

Yes, the sushi rice is warm (it's *supposed to be*) and the service is a little cold (they are Japanese women so are a bit reserved). It's top 2 or 3 sushi in all of South Florida plus a fabulous authentic Japanese menu. They have a daily chalkboard menu that they bring to the table, typically with the more challenging japanese dishes. If you're adventuresome, try at least one. It's like a mini Japanese culture course. Besides the chalkboard, try the uni pasta and the crispy bok choy. Very, very good and not something you'll find everywhere. Excellent. If you like sushi, make the trip to the 'burbs of Plantation and try some of the very best.

Love their sea bass with miso sauce. Definitely going to come back to try other choices offered here.

This is my favorite authentic Japanese restaurant in south Florida! They have the freshest sushi and sashimi dishes, as well as other Japanese dishes that aren't offered anywhere else. My absolute favorite dish is the uni pasta. It is angel hair pasta topped with buttery uni and large fish roe. I HAVE to order it every time I visit. Mix all of the ingredients together, spritz some lemon juice for acidity, and you have a dish that's plentiful to share family style, or a filling meal for one. The menu has many dishes that I've tried and enjoyed, from authentic ramen to the list of sushi rolls. For the ramen, you can choose the broth type and your protein, or choose from their creations. I like the volcano roll, which is generously topped with the seafood mix. Their fried tofu is yummy, with your choice of toppings or sauces (my boyfriend likes the chicken sauce). My suggestion, if you are very adventurous, is to order dishes from the dry erase board that the waitresses will move around the restaurant to each newly seated table. Some dishes that I like to order: the Big Oyster (a HUGE raw oyster with roe and soy sauce), the Wasabi Octapus (raw octapus bits in diluted wasabi sauce, has a nice kick!), and the shrimp sashimi (three fried prawn heads with the tails served sashimi style. It has an interesting texture, but not for the faint of heart!) Once, we special ordered uni shots, which was a piece of uni in a shot of saki. It's not on the menu, but the waitress suggested it to our table one crazy night. The service is fast and friendly, but there is limited seating. Marumi is open late and there are 2 televisions if you want to watch a game.

I went to Marumi for dinner a few nights ago and was so happy I did. I found some new rolls I really love! I do love sushi but I'm very particular about what I like. We started off with the Age Tofu which was absolutely perfect and beautifully presented! (sorry, too hungry for photo taking). We also decided to try their homemade gyoza appetizer which was very good and garlicky! I love garlic! Personally, maybe a little greasy for me but otherwise perfect. Their service is attentive and friendly. So glad we tried this place. Can't wait to go back! Oh btw, the JB tempura roll was SOOOOO good! Oh yeah! Still thinking about that!

This place USED to be good. I have to admit, I hate to give this place 3 stars but regardless I'm still coming back. The past few visits have been terrible. First off, service was never good to begin with but who really cares about service when all that really matter is the food, right? You will never find great service at an asian restaurant. Anyways, I came in last night with the hubby and to get a quick bite since they're the only place in the area that's open late. Let's just say I felt robbed when I received the bill. We ordered our usual Squid "hot hot" salad. It came with 5 slices of squid and 2 tentacles. Even the hubby noticed they skimped on the portion. Mind you, we always order this and have never been disappointed until last night. Another item I ordered was the Crazy Dynamite Dancing Eel roll. The eel was non-existent! For a $15 roll, I don't think it's worth it at all. And by the way, the green top soy sauce, supposed to be low sodium, is NOT low sodium.

As good a Japanese place as you can get in Fort Lauderdale. Whenever I'm in the area and I crave Japanese, this is the place I go to. The dishes are always delicious. My favorite dish is the mentiko pasta, made with fish eggs.... Highly recommend, well worth the money!

This is a very authentic japanese restaurant. I used to always come here for the kimchee ramen when I used to live nearby. It had been a while since I had been here. What I love the most is that they have a specials menu that changes all the time!! The staff is very friendly as well. We had edamame, beef tataki, maguro no Yamakake (tuna and grated yam), and kimchee ramen. Everything was delicious! It is rare to find Yamakake maguro since I don't think most people would like grated yam due to its sliminess texture but it is my absolute favorite!! The beef tataki had amazing flavor but their ramen was not as good as I remember it. I miss real authentic Japanese ramen; I have yet to find a place in Miami. If anyone knows of one please let me know!!

I love love love this place! The staff are extremely friendly and aren't hesitant to recommend dishes. There is a specials board that is brought to your table when you arrive. The interior is clean and attractive. The food is on point. Gyoza and the duck appetizer are mandatory every time I go. Their ramen is flavorful and HUGE! The kimchee ramen is amazingly spicy. I've had a few different types of rolls, but I can't recall anything specific; time to go back for an updated review!

This is not a sushi place-it's a Japanese restaurant with very authentic food. My son had been before or I would never have known it existed... We tried a few dishes. Small appetizers and some were better than others. The staff was pleasant and explained what we were ordering. It's a bit of a dive but worth a try if you're adventurous.

A very authentic izakaya style restaurant. The servers speak Japanese and there's a specials menu that's always changing. It takes me back to the small shops in Japan. I've never had a problem with service here and they're open late which is convenient. The fish us very fresh here. I've only tried their crazy dynamite volcano roll, which the roll was sloppy but the dynamite on top was good. I usually go for their sashimi combo platters. The A is a good size for me personally and I struggle to finish the last piece. For two people sashimi combo B is a good addition to other entrees, which was what me and my friend did this time around. We also had the big oyster from the specials menu. It was delicious!! Different than the traditional raw oyster with horseradish, this was a large oyster diced and mixed with ponzu, scallions, grounded radish. Loved it!! Then I had the uni pasta with ikura and seaweed on top. To die for..... The uni was fresh, but you only get two pieces for a very large portion of noodles. The noodles were buttery and amazing.

Yelp did not steer me wrong. My family and I went here for dinner on a Saturday night and the place was already half filled by 6:45 PM. I called about 30 minutes prior to put our names down just to avoid the wait. By the time we left the restaurant, the tables were all occupied and there were a few groups waiting to be seated. The restaurant isn't big but they do a good job of using the space that they have. The restaurant was dimly lit when we went. We shared a sashimi/sushi platter and we hand picked a whole fish for them to grill. I love that they bring the different fresh fish they have on hand for you to pick. They had fish straight from Japan but we picked the local fish since my mom is weary of us eating any Japanese seafood at the moment (unless I know specifically what area it's from). My brother also ordered a kimchi ramen for himself that he said was great. Food was very fresh and authentic. Price seemed reasonable. Service was efficient but it seems the waitress was a tad overwhelmed at times covering most of the tables. There was a board with a list of specials that definitely looked great too. Overall, I'd definitely venture back if I was in the area!

Wow! Double wow! I haven't had Japanese food this good in a long time. Must must must try!!! Thank goodness I went with a large party because I got to try so many different items ... And there wasn't a thing I didnt like. Well, except the raw octopus wasabi. I didn't care for the texture but I appreciated how fresh it was. The list of food is too long to describe each item in detail. But trust me when I say that you will not be disappointed with anything here. So for now, I will leave you with a rating items you must order... Don't forge to order from the specials as well! Kara Age - yes please Trigger fish hot pot - yes please Pot stickers served on a hot plate - yes yes yes!! Chikuwa Tempura - yes Japanese Sweet Tempuera - Yes Japanese Cajun Roll - Yes yes Pork Ramen - Yes yes! Authentically yes Miso Soup - different than typical miso soup, so this you may want to skip Black Pork Belly - mmmm yes

S M hit the nail on the damn head. This place is amazing for Japanese cuisine. They are an authentic Japanese place that also has sushi. The menu is extensive. What's more impressive is the bevy of changing specials they offer daily. There is a board with marker and about 12-15 specials that they change often, none of them are sushi related. All are unique, creative, Japanese dishes. I've had the pork rib daikon with miso/ss, the spicy fried grouper head, monkfish liver and chrysanthemum tempura. The monkfish is one of the worlds aphrodisiacs. It is the perfect version of a fishy foi gras, less salty. Lovely and strange. The pork rib comes in like a miso soup with an unappealing potato jelly but also some kind of heavy potatoe Veggy that soaks all the flavor. I was a huge fan of both. Not as flavorful as they are interesting. I'm not a fan of the chicken katsu In regards to the sushi. They do have quality rolls, and for the area they are the best around, quality priced and I've been here 4-5 times for sushi. Very very flavorful rolls, fish is quality fish and well priced. I didn't like the cilantro garlic one to mention Service is standard. This is a unique Japanese place w authentic food. That's what Ya go here for.

PROS Food was excellent. Started with tuna tataki which was fresh and delicious. Ordered the a sashimi combo B and the tuna cilantro roll & ceviche roll. The fish on the sashimi combo was so extremely fresh and super tender. The service was alright. The waitress kept checking on us but could have been more attentive. CONS. It was my friends Bday and I asked to put a cupcake into the fridge but was told about a cake sharing fee. Really?! When I told her I would hold onto the cupcake myself I was informed that I wasn't allowed to eat the cupcake inside the restaurant. We spend almost a $100 with food & drinks and although I mentioned twice it was my friends Bday they never did anything to recognize or offered him a piece of cake.

Best and most legitimate Japanese restaurant in town. We brought my brother in law here, who is Japanese and lives in Tokyo . We wanted his approval if it was good to his standard. He approved. All the chefs are Japanese and most of the customers are Japanese. I love this spot!!!

Amazing food. Incredible wait staff. How the heck have I never been here? We tried a little of everything. Sashimi for the fiancée (with an excellent spread), a few rolls, fried smelt, and bok choy (which was amazing). The only con was "a quick sushi snack before a movie" turned into a 72 dollar dinner tab... But it was soooooo good! We will be back

So many times people have told me that Marumi Sushi is awesome.... I'll beg to differ. It's not bad, but I didn't understand all the hype. Pros: Open late - til 1:30am some nights (all nights?) Extensive menu with sushi, ramen, hot pot etc. Cons: Prices! A simple green salad with ginger dressing was $6!! And a miso soup was $3! We came here after spending 3 hours trying to think of dinner options - honestly I wish we had come up with something else. The place is tiny, in a non-descript strip mall. We arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Luckily we were sat immediately. I ordered wine to start - didn't see plum wine on the menu (weird) so I went with a Riesling. We decided to start with the crispy duck to start. This dish, although tasty wasn't crispy or even that warm. I tried to convince myself that they cooked the duck rare so it didn't get that hot during cooking? But I'm pretty sure I was just lying to myself. Next up - the bf decided to try his go-to Volcano Roll. Different from our favorite volcano roll, but not bad. I ordered the Salmon Basil roll, which was amazing! Slightly overpriced, but I give them credit for thinking outside the box and using basil sauce. All in all, Marumi sushi didn't live up to the hype. If you live in the area I can see it being an acceptable neighborhood sushi spot - although I do believe you are getting slightly ripped off. I, however, won't be making the 20 min trek back there.

I use to love this place until one time I had an order of uni and complained bc two of them were bad, they refused to accept it and told me that's just how it is. I've been here 10+ times and that one experience was horrible. Server was rude and owner tried to cover up the bad uni with other uni. So not right.

This place is the best. If your looking for authentic Japanese food you found the right place. Just about pretty much anything on the menu is great. Everything is freshly made the sushi and sashimi are the freshest I have ever had. The service is great they are very friendly and helpful some of their menu is in Japanese but they are more than happy to explain to the type of dish it is. I always recommend friends and family to this place it's one of my favorites.

Thanks to Anthony Bourdain, I actually have an image of what an izakaya is all about. They're the Japanese equivalent of an American pub, the kind of place you want to sit and socialize in, with warm interiors, a nice big bar, and great food that's shareable, familiar, and comforting, along with dishes that change with what's available. This is my kind of place, and every time I visit FL, I make it a point to visit. The best way to dine in an izakaya is to order up some beer or sake and a bunch of different dishes and relax with friends. Each dish at Marumi is big enough for 3-4 to share easily, and I've got a regular set of dishes I always order including: - Crispy Bok Choy in a citrusy ponzu sauce - Fried chicken livers with garlic chives - Angel Hair w/Uni and Ikura - Japanese Curry Udon or a Ramen dish - Onigiri - Whole Grilled Squid. While the regular menu is very impressive, and I could easily recommend 5-10 more dishes, what's really special about Marumi is the ginormous specials board that changes daily! The chefs hand pick items and recipes based on what they find fresh at the market. You'll find everything from sushi and sashimi preparations of fish you've only see in books, to grilled dishes, soups, and preparations you may never see outside of Japan! I like to order the most obscure things on the list because, lets face it, I'm not likely to see them again anytime soon! So on this last visit we went with a cold eggplant dish called ohitashi and a smoked cobia collar. The eggplant was delicious in a sweet soy based sauce, served in a crystal bowl, and the cobia collar was interesting, tasting similar to a smoked sturgeon or sable (black cod). These are the types of dishes that demonstrate the serious understanding of Japanese cuisine in that kitchen and make Marumi stand out. While the service on my last visit was appalling (our party of 16 was almost ignored for an hour), I have a hard time giving them a less than 4 stars for their sheer originality and incredible talents in the kitchen. Despite this experience I know that I will return on my next visit to FL, and I still wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else.

Food pretty good. The soups taste like grilled love. The seasoning was perfectly added to my Michelle ramen with beef and Bok Choy. So you ask why the 3 stars. Well ask the only white girl with red hair name- ? It don't matter just read the previous reviews and you will get the picture of why customer service is a must. Doo Doo attitude. No tips from me but I did enjoy the preparations and presentation from the cook.

I love this place we come very often with the family. It's a very traditional Japanese restaurant. Sorry not a roll (maki) restaurant, but it doesn't matter it has Katsu Curry, Katsudon, and Shabu Shabu. I brought some Japanese friends and they love it.

This place was great. Fantastic selection of Japanese dishes with a few unique spins (Italian style eggplant, etc). Crispy bok choy was great. Japanese eggplant was fantastic and perfectly cooked. Swordfish with jalapeno was out of this world! Will be back!

  • Danna P.

By far one of the best authentic Japanese restaurants in South Florida. It's not your typical sushi joint. I actually rarely get sushi, accept for my favorite roll the soy paper wrapped spicy salmon which melts in your mouth. This place is better suited for trying unique Japanese dishes. Each dish that comes out is better than the last. My favorite dishes are the deep fried bok choy, the white fish & garlic carpaccio, the clear mushroom soup, and they have a great duck dish as well. There are always new specials to try that will give you a fresh new experience. The only downfall is that there is no ambience. The reason I give it five stars is because the food is that GOOD! I'm not looking at the walls in this place, I'm just enjoying the culinary experience. Highly recommended.

Been here a few times and I love this place. Yes the wait staff can be a little more attentive, but i can understand since its been very busy every time I've been in. The food is very authentic and every dish my guests and i have had has been great. I have no idea why some of these other reviewers are giving one stars, maybe it has more to do with them being impatient than the establishment itself.

    (4)
  • Jessica A.

If you're searching for a place where the wait is extremely long, and the staff purposely over looks you. This is the place for you! I don't know where to begin-- tonight was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I entered to a sign that said 'wait to be seated', so I waited for about 20 minutes; no one acknowledged me and no one asked if I wanted to be seated. so, I walked over to the bar area, I sat there for another 20 minutes before someone asked to take my drink order (which was a bottle of water that took 10 more minutes). 30 minutes later a waitress took my order, only for another waitress to ask to retake my order 15 minutes later. During my wait I witnessed larger parties come in after me, get seated and order more quickly. I ended up canceling my order bc I was purposely over looked on several different occasions. the service was poor, it's sad bc I'm sure the food could have been great but unfortunately I didn't get that far to experience it.

I don't think I have ever put as much effort into a review as this one. I have mixed emotions about promoting this place, because it means, quite possibly, I don't get a table on a weekend night. But when I see uncultured South Florida morons give it 1 star because they have a bad experience with a waitress, I have to laugh. These are likely the same people who will give 5 stars for the sushi at a mixed Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese "Asian fusion" restaurant or get sushi from the quick service place at the mall. First of all, this place is run by Japanese from Japan - as opposed to Japanese American. I am guessing there are probably 10 Japanese families in South Florida (ok, I am being sarcastic), but I AUTOMATICALLY give this place 3 stars just for that. True Japanese people will almost never sell you "Pan-Asian" food, they are very proud of their culture. If you recall, there were some wars fought over this. Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. and other Asians on the other hand have no problem with capitalism, hence you will find most Pan-Asian restaurants are owned by Chinese or Vietnamese. I am not saying one is right or one is wrong, but Japanese food is a very specific style of cooking and meat selection. Maybe I am just old school, but when I am eating raw fish, I care A LOT who is selecting and preparing it. I have been to restaurants where I specifically ask for a fish out of season and they say they have it...red flag and I walk out. These guys are true and honest about their food. I have seen the whole fish being brought in on occasion. Get the Big Eye Tuna if it's not out for the night - yummy. Call me racist, elitist, whatever, but I have literally eaten at the best sushi restaurants in New York, San Francisco and London (some of which are reviewed). Marumi is right up there when you adjust for cost, and I would say without hesitation that their fish is better than many of the hotpots on South Beach that cost 3x as much. I can tell quite a few of the reviews are done by foodie poseurs - ignore them, seriously.

If there was an option to leave 0 stars I would. Everything we are was bland, from the sushi to the udon. We also tried the boc choy appetizer, which was recommended by the waitress. It was awful and when we told the waitress that it was bad, she responded "sorry, but we don't return food here". What kind of respectable restaurant doesn't return something that isn't good or at least asks if they could us get something else. Poor service, poor food, unacceptable.

  • Blue A.

Sushi is one of those things I can probably eat every single day. I've had my fair share of sushi and unfortunately Marumi didn't measure up. It might of been that I ordered the wrong things but we had 3 different rolls and they were all lackluster - one was outright disgusting. I hate to use the word disgusting - especially when describing two of my favorite dishes (ceviche and sushi) but the Ceviche Roll was absolutely disgusting. That's one of those things that "look good on paper" but absolutely fail during the execution. I tried to give it a try...I had a piece, chased it with soda, picked at the other rolls...came back to it...nope still horrible! Maybe with some more soy sauce? Nope...then I gave up. Tsunami Roll: Tuna, Salmon, Avocado, cream cheese, masago. You've probably seen this combo numerous times and while it was probably the best of the three, it certainly wasn't something that would make me come back. California Roll - My wife and I have this weird tradition where we always try the California roll at every sushi spot we go to. I know, it's not "authentic" but it certainly made sushi popular in the US, so give me a break. I've noticed that the sushi places we really enjoy always tend to have a really good Cali Roll. The Cali roll here was basic at best and I just ate it because I was starving after leaving the Ceviche roll. All in all I've experienced much better sushi spots. Based off the ratings this is obviously a super popular place and I wish them nothing but the best...the staff was extremely nice and the place was super clean. I might swing in again in a few months and get some different things - based off the other reviews they are deserving of a second chance.

This is probably the best Japanese in the area but definitely not a great Japanese. Waited for 10 minutes at the door before someone acknowledged us. After we were seated and looked at the menu, asked for a drink but the sake the s in a different menu which we did not get. Wanted a bottle of sake but the bottled stuff is not on the menu - had to go to refrigerator to check things out. Ordered monk fish liver - a bit over cooked, natto with squid - tasty, sashimi combo B - somewhat skimpy and it came with raw salmon and smoked salmon. Smoked salmon in authentic japanese? Bagel with that? But tasty overall. Also ordered a fresh orange clam ($14) which was so so in freshness and not as cold as I would have liked. The clam, came almost at the end of the meal but was ordered as an appetizer. Also ordered ship (salt) ramen. The ramen only tasted of toasted sesame oil. The broth had no flavor, noodles overcooked and the meat tasteless and flavorless. More like from box than a real ramen.

THEY HAVE RAMEN!!! Finally an authentic Japanese menu and a huge specials board that they bring right up to the table. The service is prompt and the waiters are very friendly. They will give you great recommendations if you ask. The portions of the ramen were large so we took home leftovers for the next day. Their cold tofu appetizer was also tasty. We also came late at night, around 10pm and it was no problem. I'm not sure when they close, but I will be back for a late night Japanese fix. The prices are reasonable and the bathrooms are clean. It's in a weird shopping complex but they have nice quotes on the outside of the store front.

Excellent experience. My wife and I had driven by several times, and we finally decided to check it out. We ordered a few different rolls, and she ordered a scallop-mushroom sautee. Everything was delicious. Friendly waitress, food came out quickly, and everything was reasonably priced. A win, all around!

AUTHENTIC Japanese cuisine!! Loved everything on the menu and their great selection of sake!! I lived in Japan and traveled around the coast of both main island and Okinawa. This place gave me flashbacks! If you're gonna have sushi, try it from an authentic restaurant!! Best in the Ft Lauderdale area!

I was a bit disappointed with this place. I came here to try the giant oyster, but was told they shuck them at an outside facility and I wasn't about to try raw oysters that were opened who knows where and when. The Monkfish liver special was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the clams in saki. Sushi rolls were good. The sweet shrimp I got seemed like it was bad.

Must. Come. Back! Aaaargh- as if I did not have enough reasons not to want to leave Florida, now I can add this place to my list. After a long day on Key West, we meandered upwards towards the Fort Lauderdale area with the idea of hitting up the ball-drop/beach festivities for NYE 12/13. Hunger took over, so we decided 'oh well, as long as we are together who cares what we do tonight'. Turns out this was still a near impossible scenario as our hunger set in at 11PM and not many decent sit-down non-barfood places were serving food (or had availability). We whipped out my trusty Yelp and found this place, filled to the brim with an eclectic mix of people, though mainly of Japanese descent. We sat down and were prese ted with partyhats and raffletickets, soon to be followed by complimentary champagne and free soba, a Japanese NYE tradition. I ordered the tofu&kimchee hotpot, my husband ordered 'Japanese BBQ beef' yakiniku, and I ordered chicken yakisoba for my Japanese-cuisine-virgin stepdaughter. The hotpot was amazing, it had the right amount of spice, warmth and kimchee funkiness to it, filled with delicious, soft tofu and topped with an overeasy egg. The chicken yakisoba noodles were well-received, and the BBQ beef was pretty much the best thing on the table. Caramelized meat with a complex sweet yet savory sauce, complimented by sesame seeds. When the clock struck midnight we all unleashed our poppers and the place erupted in cheers and pure joy. Champagne was being consumed, and the charming owner proposed a toast to his customers and family. Then he went straight into full karaoke-mode and sang a Japanese song, which was the icing on the cake. Fun did not stop there because we had a quirky medley of fun entertainment coming, a singer took the stage and sang a few songs, and a flamenco dancer even performed. Came raffle time all three of us actually won a prize, and soon thereafter we left. I am pretty sure karaoke and festivities kept on going til later, but we were beat and our senses were overstimulated. This was by far the most interesting and amazingly eccentric NYE celebration we have ever had, combined with some legitimately amazing food. Thank you guys, for both! We will be back!

Crispy bok choy, giant oysters, squid, uni, sashmi! All very good. I love that it's open late nights. So, I can always go there for my late night munchies!!

Browsing on yelp for Japanese places this came up with some good reviews and decided to go. Went in around 8pm little busy got greeted upon a minute later and service can be a little slow. Had to ask what some of the things are since they don't provide details on some of the items on the menu I'm sure I wasn't the only one asking questions so that may have been the cause of the slow service. They have a blackboard with specials on it so you can see what they have for that night. Went with the crispy bok choy, grilled squid, fried grouper head off the specials board, and some sushi rolls. The food was all good and cooked perfectly. Would come back again to try more of the food. Just a note if coming at night call ahead on the weekend to reserve a table just in case it gets packed and there's a wait.

So I had noodles in a bowl with some kinda liquid, pork, and vegetables. BUT I did not have ramen. UGH the ramen strands were stuck together in a clump...aka it wasn't fresh. Probably packaged noodles. Broth was SO INSUFFICIENT. I asked about more broth and they said that they make the broth on the spot with the ramen and they don't just have broth ready to use...okay I'm not Japanese but I will tell you that I've never seen this shit before!!! And I had to pay extra to add veggies...and they're like a sautéed mix of carrots, bean sprouts, bok choy, napa cabbage and other rAndkm veggies...ether way. It's not real ramen veggies! I was expecting more corn, seaweed, and shiitake mushrooms :/ Okay back to the broth. I asked for a miso broth. NO MISO FLAVOR. ugh. What else...with ramen, they vary based on the broth and possibly the type of meat. Now I ordered chasu (tender broiled pork slices. Slightly fatty but the fat is very limited) but the meat in my ramen was NOT tender at all and had big pieces of thick, chewy slices. Ugh if thy can't even make the signature ingredient right... What is going on here... Besides from that the staff were attentive and sweet. My friend got the octopus udon and it was soooo good! The broth was flavorful and perfect! The noodles were moist and chewy and there was even a poached egg in there!! Don't come for the ramen, get anything else

I'm relatively new to the area and I love sushi. Obviously, I quickly went on the search for new go-to sushi spots by my home. Marumi was a fantastic find. My first test for them was to have them create the randomest roll (i can be pretty weird with my sushi) and see if they can deliver. They did, and they provided extra sauce to go with it than what I am used to. I also appreciate that they go the extra mile and garnish our take-out boxes with some veggies and noodles while other places just stick your meal in there and send you on your way. Even on busy nights, which is when I'm usually craving sushi, they always have my order ready for pick-up on time. Check out their menu on their website. It's quite varied and every meal we've ordered has been authentic, fresh, and craving busting. P.S. I dunno about you guys, but I feel like they created the Michelle ramen to honor me as a valued customer. Okay, maybe not...but anyways, I suggest you guys try my- i mean their Michelle ramen and dip some crispy shrimp w/ mayo into it....you won't regret it!

We live an hour away from this Resturant just to eat their sushi. This place is awesome. It is so authentic I wish it was closer. We've ordered specialty rolls, pork belly, crispy bokchoy, smelly fish, sea bass, calamari, and more. We've also ordered the volcano dessert. Yummy! If you come with a big party bring some cash. The only accept 3 cc per table and they do not split the checks. - hence my 4 star review.

Where to start?! I. LOVE. MARUMI. This place is authentic, which is nice change of pace for us since we live in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm used to the standard Chinese "sushi" covered in sauces and completely unimpressive. My husband and I were in South Florida shooting a wedding, so I did my standard Yelp search when we have a destination wedding. I was pleased to find a sushi place with a high rating was down the street from our hotel. The first night in Sunrise, we visited Marumi since they have late hours, which we truly appreciate. The staff was beyond nice! I ordered the grilled squid. Five stars! We also got the wagyu beef Tataki. Can I give this ten stars?!? Best. Tataki. Ever. I ordered a few other things, including the Toro. We left happy & full. The next night, we were so pleased with Marumi that we said "forget all of the other places we bookmarked in yelp" and revisited Marumi for a second night in a row. The staff immediately recognized us and brought out drinks for us. We ordered the big eye Toro and the spicy tuna roll, along with some ramen. I wanted to order everything on the menu! I'm so sad that Marumi doesn't exist in Jacksonville and that we have NOTHING like Marumi up here. Luckily for me, I have quite a few South Florida weddings coming up.. So I'll be seeing you soon, Marumi. Thank you for becoming my new favorite restaurant.

Perfect place for late night sushi even during the week!!!! The sushi is amazing and very fresh! We had the jumbo oyster, which was mind blowing, the ceviche roll (awesome) and the crunchy spicy tuna roll ( also delicious), plus the best miso soup I've ever had! Needless to say this is my new go to sushi spot, especially since it's open late night!

Rude service and food. I ordered a tuna sushi roll and was served tuna paste mixed with spicy mayo. Is terrible to have deceiving menu descriptions, we will not return. Instead I recommend dinning at the friendly and consistenty delicious Thai Meal (East West Cafe) just a few doors down.

This place is good.. Really good.. Me and my wife had the crispy bokchoy which was freaking awesome followed by masa soba noodle which had slices of pork that was very tasty and to finish we both ordered a sushi roll. I myself a tuna toro which was great. We both will defiantly go back here

I had really high expectations for this place after reading about it on Yelp. The boyfriend and I decided to venture out in the torrential rain and drive all the way out here for a late night dinner. After 4 dishes and $65 later we walked out still hungry and unsatisfied. *Beef tataki grilled - real fatty and way too chewy. Not worth $20 for 5 tiny pieces of beef covered in way too sweet sauce. "Jumbo shrimp shumai - taste like shumai... Nothing special. *Grouper carpaccio - Meh... didnt taste like much except for the burnt garlic on top with a little salt. Very small dish. *Grilled whole squid - The only good dish we had here. * Calpico drink - I love Calpico but the can was covered in dirt or whatever it might've been. So, if you want to have a filling meal, this isn't it. We didn't want to get sushi or samishi since you can get good sushi or sashimi anyhwere. We didn't want to get Japanese curry or Donkatsu since I make that at home all the time. We really wanted to try different items off the white board they place in front of your table when you walk in. The food was whatever but definitely not worth the money. We ended up going to Popeye's after and they gave us cold chicken. So we picked up a cake at a grocery store and went home... What a disappointing night.

Ate here tonight after hearing about all the hype. I must say I like that they are open late. They were pretty busy for 10:30pm on a Sunday night. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. That's a definite plus. So onto the food. My bf and I ordered a few items based on what reviewers had posted. We had: - Crispy bok choy: Interesting....fried in an garlic oily base with I think ponzu/soy sauce? I like the crisp texture but the pieces without the sauce was a bit bitter and overall, a little too oily for my taste (but we did finish it!) - Yakiniku: very tasty! The meat was tender and juicy. Kind of reminds me of bulgogi. Just wished it came with rice or some kind of carb to soak up that delicious sauce (there was another option that came with rice on the menu but I think w/o all the veggies?) - Miso ramen: paid the extra $1 for to extra veggies so we got quite a good amount of food. Pretty good. - Tuna tartare rolls: I normally like a bit more exotic flavors to my sushi but this was really good and fresh!!! The tuna just melts in your mouth! My only complaint is it was kind of expensive and wasn't too filling. - Crispy fish onion salad: okay so this was definitely my favorite out of the dishes we tried. The fish was crispy and seasoned well. I think they used a combination of different types of fish, salmon being one and some other kind of white fish. The salad was tangy with different onions and herbs. Very tasty and refreshing!! Definitely want to order it again. - Dessert--- Japanese parfait: Can't really go wrong with green tea ice cream!! Plus, it came with some vanilla wafers and mochi as garnishes and had red beans and corn flakes. Very good size to share and end your meal. Just wished they had some fruit. Overall, great dining experience. Will be back to try other items!

Found this place on yelp when I was going out to IKEA and was craving sushi. Thanks there was a wait on Saturday night so I figured if people are waiting to eat the place must be good. The japanese dishes I thought were better than the sushi. The ceviche roll had little fish. the highlights were the pickled vegetables especailly the diakon nice and crunchy. The mushroom soup was excellent great flavors extracted from the mushrooms. I liked the scallo0p with mushroom especially the nice selection of shitake and enoki. Also the spicy shrimp had an amazing sweet and sour sauce. The food was excellent if I am ever around that neighborhooed I will definately go back !!

Food was bad. Service was worse. The tempura was bland and cold in the middle. I ate half of one piece and when the waitress asked me if I was done I told her it wasn't good. She said "oh", took the food in the back and then brought out the bill charging full price for the tempura. We paid it just to get out of that dingy joint. Tops of the soda we ordered were dirty. Cup with half melted ice watered down the over priced soda. Sushi was warm- blech. Had to ask for wasabi twice. Didn't come on the plate. Overall- disgusting. Waste of money and will not be back.

This place was pretty busy both times we've been there (wait list started right after we got there). Last night I tried the Salmon Basil Roll which was really great. The service is good and it seems like they have fresh food. The food comes out in a timely manner and looks appetizing. So far this is the best sushi place we have found in the area. Still haven't tried their cooked dishes but they look delicious. A must try if you're in the sunrise area.

I eat a lot of Japenese and travel extensively. Ate here late last night and the food and service was phenomenal. Wife also agrees. Really novel offerings on Menu as well. This place was legit. Not the Korean sudo Sushi Japanese. One of the best Japanese Sushi spots in Broward for sure

Love it here! We come here so much the waiter pretty much know what we want. We always order Uni angel pasta and hamachi kama! We also like Yakiniku don, Tsunami Roll, Dried Kawahagi, Eggplant & Shrimp w/ Miso, Mixed Sunomono. I tried the jumbo oyster but didnt like it so much bc it was fishy. Friendly waiter. You cant eat here for lunch bc they only open for dinner. But overall, this is one of our fav spot

I went down to visit my mom and tried to find a decent sushi place in central broward. Well, this is it! I love the fact that they experiment with ingredients and flavors. My party tried the Salmon Basil Roll and the Tuna Cilantro Roll. Both were absolutely great. Next time I go I will try the ceviche roll. The service was fabulous and the restaurant was clean. Definitely a fan!

I'm always surprised at the quality and diversity of restaurants we can find right in our own backyard, but you do have to look around. That was the overall feeling that I was left with when I left Marumi Sushi. Satisfied, and with a smile across my face, thinking how cool it is to find an authentic Izakaya-style place, that's bursting with activity, and full of great choices to try. Marumi Sushi is a special place I must say. They embrace the Izakaya concept fully as a place to meet with family and friends, to have a good time, maybe a couple of beers and some yummy food. And yummy it is indeed. We sat at the bar in front of the chef who was in a whirlwind, expediting dishes left and right, rapidly getting orders from the waitresses and all while not showing any stress, calm like a hindu cow. :) Like a boss. We ordered the crispy bok-choy, the lotus root, the salmon basil roll, a rainbow roll and some shrimp shumai. I must say, the lotus root, the bok choy and the rainbow roll were stunning. You could really taste the quality and love put into these simple dishes. The garlicky-ness and crispiness of the box choy, the tartness of the lotus, and the freshness of the rice and fish. All excellent. Now, lemme tell you about the salmon basil roll. For some reason it took me a while to get used to it....basil...it's just so italian, and...olive oil? sushi? AHH! It was a bit of a clash of cuisines, but as I got more into it I suddenly got it. I liked it, but it wasn't what I expected at all. The shumai were just OK. Looking at other reviewers, I think I have to agree.I would say it's not their forte. The service was great, and it was fun sitting at the bar, even though a little tight on the space but overall good. We might try the tables if there's one available next time, and yes, there will be a next time. Hopefully many. I can't wait to dig in more into what makes Marumi be Marumi. Recommended.

I love the place, great food, great soup. The ramen is delicous. I also like the spicy tuna sushu, and the wasabi is way different than publix sushi. This would punch your face with "spicyness".

This was my first time at Marumi and I have never been more disappointed with restaurant service. First off, we made a reservation for 8-10 people and then we had to wait 20-30 minutes for a table, because the staff accidentally gave away our table. Then we were seated without menus and when asked if we could have some menus the waitress told us "we don't have any available menus for you". The waitress was beyond rude the entire night and I understand it's stressful on a busy night, but if you want a good tip and you want to keep your job you should probably put a smile on your face or at least pretend that you want to be there. The amount of times I caught this waitress rolling her eyes at every table was ridiculous. I definitely wish that I got her name before I left that restaurant, because this seems like a recurrent issue as I read the reviews below. As expected, we left a poor tip and the waitress had the nerve to chase after us for a better tip. Very disrespectful! Besides the service, the food would get a rating of five stars. Great tasting and quick cooks. I would have placed this as my favorite sushi place in Fort Lauderdale, but they definitely won't see me back after the service we received. Time to get a fresh, motivated staff!

You can't go wrong with eating at Marumi Sushi. I've been there a ton of times, and each time the food and service have been consistently good. The waitresses are for the most part attentive. During slower times at the sushi bar, even the chef would come around to help out clean the tables or ask the patrons how the food is (this is a good time to ask the chef any questions about the food, they have a very vast knowledge about it, whether kitchen or sushi bar items). This is one of the few and better izakaya places that South Florida has to offer. Don't expect a great variety of rolls, but rather enjoy the many small, tapas-like dishes available. Here are some personal recommendations: * Omakase sashimi - let the chef surprise you with the day's available fish, presented in an artful way! * Kawahagi - grilled dried trigger fish * Agedashi tofu * Ankimo - steamed monkfish liver * Sliced grilled duck appetizer

Honestly I come here too much but for good reason. For heath nuts, you can substitute their regular rice for brown rice. I personally recommend the Crispy Bok Choy, Japanese Curry, and Fantasy roll. But I really recommend to explore the menu because they have a plethora of uncommon Japanese dishes which varies from the normal japanese menu you'd normally see. I love how they prepare their whole fish. They bring it out for you to select and they can prepare 3 different ways which is very convenient.

Best Asian restaurant in the area hands down. Kind of a hole-in-the-wall, but open very late with amazing food! My boyfriend and I have been coming here quite often over the past couple of years and Marumi never disappoints. The place is unassuming but has some very unique menu items and is always on-point with their delicious food. In fact, we will be going there for dinner again tonight. Don't forget to look at their special board; they always have weird things to try and I have never had anything bad here. Some great items to get: Eggplant Seafood: weird name but sooo tasty. An eggplant is halved and stuffed with shrimp, scallops, squid, miso paste and cheese. I highly recommend this if you haven't tried it. Even if you are put off by eggplant, or squid, or anything else in there, trust me, you will like it! Crispy Spicy Shrimp: think bang bang shrimp from Bonefish Grill, only way better. Large shrimp are tempura batter and fried, tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce, and topped with scallions. Great dipped in soy sauce. Tofu Steak with Mushrooms: literally a whole tofu steak is sauteed and topped with a variety of sauteed eclectic mushrooms in a light and tangy sauce. I have no idea what is in it, but it's great. Asian BBQ Beef: this dish comes out on a cast iron hot plate and is seared beef (not really BBQ in my opinion, but well seasoned) with sauteed onions and bean sprouts. Yum. Mochi Ice Cream: self-describing and they switch up the flavors pretty often Japanese Ice Cream Sundae: green tea ice cream, red bean paste, frosted flakes, whipped cream- its sooo good. Seems like a weird combo of items but it totally works. Actually, looking at this list this is basically what we order when we go. Also, everything is very, very moderately priced. We usually get all of the things listed above (sometimes two of the shrimp) and its like $60. You won't be disappointed if you go! *** I also realize that it is called Marumi SUSHI, but we never order sushi here. It's good, but I think the cooked dishes are far superior.

I have yet to see what the hype is about. Crumb crust chicken? 3 scoops of ice cream makes a volcano? Its very hard to find something I love here. Is the splash of mayo and cherry tomato a thing now?

Super delicious everything. My girlfriend and I go to marumi a few times per month and have never been disappointed. The food is fresh and brought to the table as its ready. Nothing sits after its prepared. Everyone must try the crispy bok choy. The seafood and cilantro stir fry is my favorite main dish. The whole grilled squid and katsu chicken are also amazing. The green tea mochi is great for dessert. The prices are very affordable and Karen is so sweet and friendly. She always remembers what we order. They are open until 1am and sometimes stay open later if its busy. Can't go wrong with marumi. Love this place!

wow finally authentic Japanese ,can't be found except in very few places. Real means extremely fresh fish ,great small plates and wonderful noodles, went on a Sunday nite it was very busy the staff were very friendly, the owner is the sushi chef the real deal , no howdy dowdy rolls smothered in mango-mayo-spicy whatever! If available have the whole fish sashimi style chef choice a little but pure joy can't wait t return

After hearing about this place from the crew at Tate's Comics and then reading the (mostly) glowing reviews on Yelp I had to check it out. I met my big brother, Peter, for dinner here on an early Friday evening. We were the only two in there at first (about 6PM) but the place soon started filling up with several regulars. The service was excellent, the waitress was very nice and prompt on refilling our drinks - never had to ask once! Also kept clearing plates and bringing us clean dishes so nothing was sitting around on the table for long. I went with a few Yelpers suggestions and got the crispy bok choy to start - delicious! The top greens were paper thin and air crisp while the whites were soft and tender with just a slight crunch. A nice salty dash of soy on them blended well with thin sliced creamy cashews. The beef tongue miso stew was a hearty but not too rich beef and miso broth with delicious chunks of boiled potato, daikon, carrot, onion, tofu, scallion, and of course the beef tongue. Everything was tender and flavorful, the tongue melted in your mouth and had just enough creamy fat on it to be perfect. The Michelle Ramen was a pretty straightforward bowl of ramen, tender noodles in a light broth with very tender slices of bef, bok choy, onions. Good but I'm not too impressed by ramen. The spider roll was one of the best I've ever had. SUPER FRESH softshell crab that was amazingly sweet and fried to crisp but not dried out crunchy like many places do. It was drizzled in a slightly sweet thick sauce not as powerful as normal eel sauce, very refreshing with the cucumber and bit of spicy mayo in the roll. Then I went for the real show - a whole Pompano. One of the options on the menu is to have a whole fish prepared how you want it, or leave it up to the chef. When you choose the whole fish option you are given a tableside selection of what's fresh - I got to pick between a beautiful red snapper and the pompano. Having had snapper several times before, I opted for the less usual and I was not disappointed. The chef prepared it 2 ways, half of the fish was filleted off and flash fried with bean sprouts, scallion and onion in a very light seasoning. The veggies were tender and fresh but the fish - crispy and creamy at the same time. It was outstanding, both in flavor and texture. The other side of the fish plus the head and tail were charcoal grilled with a ponzu marinade. The charred skin peeled off in slices and had that wonderful real charcoal flavor while the flesh underneath had the same creamy texture and delicate flavor mixed with the citrus. The best part was because I had the head, I got the cheeks, which is easily the best meat on most fish. While the Pompano was $40 (whole fish chef style is market price), it was so worth it, as I got 2 dishes out of it and plenty left over for breakfast tomorrow. The bill (and free hot green tea done with matcha powder, not leaf) came to $82 which considering it was a roll, 2 soups that easily served 2 people, and a 2-dish fish is not bad at all. The regular menu has some great items (they carry natto, which is not very common in regular sushi places around here) that I'll try next time, but the specials board is where it's at - I will make it a point to order at least one thing off the board every time I go.

Terrible service on a Friday night at 6:30. Been here before on week nights when the place is empty, that's when they treat you well. Instead, when it was packed, no one greeted me for about ten minutes. Then, a waitress took people waiting behind me right to the sushi bar. There was an empty booth, but she said it was only for a party of four. She then slammed a "reserved" sign on it. Twenty minutes later, I was finally give one of these booths, even though I was in a party of two. We Ordered two hot sakes and waitresses laughed, "Two large???are you sure??" She disappeared for ten min, can back with lukewarm sakes that we had to send back. Then she never came back for a good twenty minutes. The food was good for the most part, but not worth being treated that way. Plus, the restrooms are nasty. They should appreciate their loyal customers since the place is dead 5 nights a week.

I was in search of a late night sushi spot so we went in at about 1230am, ordered the spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll and the jumbo shrimp app. It really hurt me to have to pay for the worst sushi I've ever had.. And I eat a lot of sushi. Tempura flakes were stale, rice was too sticky.. Lacked flavor... And the jumbo shrimp were the smallest shrimp I've ever seen.. Nothing jumbo about them..and to top it all off as soon as I got home I got sick. Unfortunately,There is nothing 4 stars about this restaurant

Was expecting a great experience because of all of the good Yelp reviews, but was disappointed. Backdrop: It was 10:30PM on a Wednesday night... We dealt with the lack of your welcomes to our thanks thinking that food was going to be good. And the waitress was not very accommodative to us being vegetarians - she offered us a veggie roll and a cucumber roll, and when asked if there were any other variants she abruptly said no. Ok, thats cool - but it seems to reason that, you could take any one of the ingredients in the mixed veggie roll and create a solo roll - that was our first look at each other (my wife and I) thinking, hmm - what just happened here? My food came out ok, a little warmer than I'm accustomed to for Sushi, but the cucumber roll was alright - again nothing that I had expected by the caliber of the reviews. The veggie roll was limp and soft in an almost soggy/sticky way - not my idea of a good roll at all. And my wife's tempura was in my best guess vegetables that looked like they should have been thrown out, but instead were cut in half and deep fried. Mind you there were four huge pieces of eggplant, one small potato, a half of a green pepper (just like that, not sliced), and one other thing. She looked at me and was like what is this (disappointed)? We told the waitress about our dissatisfaction with the food, but she seemed not to be bothered and moved on, proceeding to give us our check. It could have been an off night for these guys, and also for the waitress, but I'll probably steer clear in the future. Wish it was a better review, but I can't fathom giving better than 2 stars.

I am in love with this place! I'm so glad I came here. It can definitely get pricy, but the food was amazing and so fresh! It's tucked in a little plaza and can be hard to miss. There's sushi and sashimi obviously, and not a lot of fancy rolls (except for a Fancy Roll oddly enough) and nice little plates to share. They have grilled plates, donburi, ramen, udon, soba, and some dessert too! 4 of us ordered the following... Fried squid - like typical fried calamari served with Kewpie mayo Shrimp shumai - Nothing too special Michelle ramen - very light mushroom-y broth served with bok choy and some beef. I wasn't too impressed especially with all the highlights in the reviews Kimchi ramen - the broth was saltier and had a good amount of salt and plenty of kimchi with pork and had chive bulbs. It was pretty good and hit the spot! Both ramens were served in huge bowls and were perfect for sharing with 2 people and being able to sample the other dishes Fried smelt fish - This and the live oyster were my favorites. Tiny fried smelt fish stacked on top of each other with sea salt and lime on the side. Amazing little snack, especially with some beer! If you're squeamish about eating whole fish, start here! It is worth it. Live oyster - a HUMONGOUS oyster served on the shell, cut up into several pieces, and served with a spring onion, some type of shoyu based sauce, and a pinkish horseradish (not exactly sure what it was, but it had a little bit of bite!). Perfect starter. Crispy bok choy - Not too impressed with that, taste pretty much like fried brussel sprouts but served with a shoyu sauce. Grilled duck breast - This was lovely, had the perfect amount of smoke and seasoned perfectly. Nice foray into duck for someone who doesn't normally eat it. Miso soup - Pretty typical, served with carrots and wakame. Fried cheesecake roll - Crispy on the outside, cheesecake in the inside rolled into a log. Served with vanilla ice cream. Japanese parfait - Ours had green tea ice cream, adzuki beans, and cereal! Served with whipped cream on top, 2 strawberry wafers, and a small mochi. I personally liked it, but the table felt it was a little bland and not that sweet for dessert. This is a fun place to go and enjoy food for dinner or after work (since they're opened til 1:30!). Definitely go check it out and pass on the lame fusion rolls.

Oh boy...... I feel like I'm cheating on my old sushi restaurant that I thought was THE best in the world. I live about 5 miles from my office, Universal Electrical Services, Inc. I was Yelping ideas for lunch one day and found this gem. Well, they aren't open for lunch (bummer) so I convinced the family to cheat on our regular place right near the house and try something new. WE ARE HOOKED!! Efficient service, ever-changing daily specials board, an excellent variety, un-paralleled freshness and reasonable prices! What else do you need to know. Cheat on your regular sushi joint and give this place a try!!

Everyone was raving about crispy bokchoy but I was really disappointed - it was way too salty! Volcano roll was a little too mayonnaise. Shrimp tempura was fine and nabe udon was good. Giant oyster was great!

The place look a little shabby since it is located at a little strip shopping mall and the inside is a little dark with plastic covered table tops... But the good food make up for all of the above! They have a marker board with the special of the day written on it with both Japanese/English... That they bring it right next to your table so you would never miss that!! We ordered the Catch of the Day... The waitress bring out a tray of fish with red snapper, grouper and triggar fish. Since it is only for the 2 of us, we have to opt for the smaller triggar fish. The fish was first sashimied and then the rest were made into hot pot. The sashimi was really good.. the fish were filleted into really really think slice. For the Hot Pot, that is really the highlight of the dinner.. The chef made us 2 huge hotpots, one of each of us! There were tofu, mushrooms and numerous of fresh vegetables.. That was so tasty!!! We also order chicken teriyaki was ok.. I found that sauce a little salty for my taste. After having all the food, I was so full!!! Don't have room for dessert! I would definitely comes back here to eat when I am in the area.. Their late hours is great! Since I can come over after shopping the whole day at Sawgrass Mills!!!

Wow, I am truly surprised by all of the excellent reviews of this place because my husband and I did not have a great experience here. We went with our friends who had been before and really enjoyed it. Just as I was about to order sushi, which I was really in the mood for, they told me the sushi wasn't good here. The word sushi is in the restaurant name!! I went for it anyway and, as expected, my Rainbow Roll and Hamachi with Scallion Roll were just ok. I enjoyed the Clear Soup with Mushrooms, but definitely left kind of hungry. My husband ordered the same soup, the Grilled Squid (which our friends also got an order of) and a side of the Crispy Bok Choy. He seemed to enjoy everything, although I found the bok choy flavorful, but oily. However, almost immediately after our meal, my husband started to experience serious stomach trouble which ultimately cut short our evening with our friends. I will not be making a return visit, especially when I know that the excellent East West Cafe is just a few doors down in the same shopping center!

Fantastic sushi! Thanks to Yelp, I found this place. I will definitely be back. My husband and I had the Fantasy Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Vegetable Roll. All of them were very tasty. Also had the Miso soup and the Crepe with Ice Cream for dessert. Everything was delicious and the service was great as well. We will definitely be back and recommend you try it!

This place was so yum, so fast, and open so late. It was perfect. One of the few places to get a hot meal when your flight gets in after midnight. I had the miso soup (surprisingly hearty with chunk of tofu, ample seaweed, and other unidentified yet equally delicious veggies), grilled pork belly (perfectly seasoned, amazing fat/meat ratio, hot, fast, and moist), and crunchy spicy tuna roll (perfectly tender rice, not too 'chopped' tuna, and crispy tempura flakes. I was in town for 3 days- and I came here EVERYDAY. Open from 5:30pm-1:30am. This will be my go to after hours dinner spot whenever Im in south Florida!

Honestly, hands down this is probably the best Japanese restaurant that I've ever been to. The staff was very nice and the dishes were so so delicious. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, some sushi rolls, and a bowl of ramen. Black pork belly, sliced grilled duck, and sweet potato tempura are probably my favorite of the appetizers we tried. The grilled duck is amazing! I wish it wasn't considered a "small dish" and wish it was part of an entree or something. I loved the volcano roll. The seafood mix on top made it so much better. Now my ramen bowl. So good. I had the plain soup. I want to try the miso soup next time. If you love vegetables, I definitely recommend adding vegetables for only $1 more! bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, etc - aah so good. I'm craving it again as I'm writing this. And for dessert, Japanese Parfait ! Lots of fresh fruits, rich vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge on top - perfect combo. Green tea ice cream, as always, was amazing. Great way to finish a very satisfying meal!

  • Chelsie M.

Definitely an authentic Japanese restaurant with a lot of choices. The crispy bok choy and seaweed salad were delicious. The pork ramen bowl was a lot of food and worth the price but could use a little more flavor. The sashimi combo was fresh but with a higher price and smaller portion than other japanese restaurants I've been to. The 3 layer volcano dessert was great. The service wasn't bad but nothing to brag about. It was good but wouldn't drive the 20 minutes to come back. If you're in the area though, especially late, a good option.

Best Japanese food in Broward county. Food quality is very consistent over the years and price is reasonable. The staff is friendly and attentive.

Back again a year later. Wow. It is just incredible Japanese food. The tofu steak with mushroom appetizer was spectacular. The assorted rolls are terrific. Fresh and tasty. The soups are great. Next time I want to try a few of the noodle dishes. I love this place. It is a treasure in South Florida. Our waitress from Japan is really wonderful and the sushi chef is amazing.

I dont understand why I was laughed at when I walk in, but when i go to a chinese food place they love me? I think chinese people are more accustomed to us Americans gobbling their Ribs and dumplings. The japanese not so much. Anyhow about the food, i tried the tuna salmon sushi- FYI, If you dont "THINK" that your going to like RAW sushi, Then you should order the Deep fried sushi because you probably wont like the raw sushi. I ate one raw sushi roll and had to order another dish which was the deep fried something or another.. It tasted OK- But I am in the belief that If it wasnt for the peanut glazed sauce that Asian restaurants serve aside or in there meals, that I wouldnt have enjoyed it at all. At any rate, I am defenitely up for trying sushi again. The decor and feeling the place itself gave was very cozy, dim lit, and an indefinite place to dine your partner or "love interest!" :0)

I consider myself to be a self-proclaimed connoisseur in the art of sushi. I also happen to be Japanese. I live in New Jersey and am in close proximity to many great Japanese restaurants both in NJ and NYC, so I am pretty spoiled with a good selection of places to get my sushi fix. This past holiday we spent a week in South Florida visiting with friends. Our friends hate sushi (huh?), so when we had an evening with no set dinner plans with anyone, we decided to try Marumi, simply based on the online reviews we had read. As everyone knows, sometimes reviews can be hit or miss, but in this case, the positive reviews are merited. Both my husband and I primarily ordered sashimi, which was really fresh and we also ordered some specialty rolls. We enjoyed it so much, we ditched our friends a couple of days later and went back to Marumi. This is the real deal...great food and most importantly, fresh food. If you are looking for sexy, you won't get it here......the restaurant is in a strip mall and the inside is pretty dinky and unimpressive. It's true that the servers don't have much personality, but who cares? I don't care as long as my food is good. On a Friday or Saturday, you'll be waiting for a table, but it is well worth it. I can hardly wait for my next visit to South Florida!

    (5)
  • Heather W.

The one good sushi spot In south Florida! The flavoring changes with the chef which is annoying... But whatever. Spicy salmon, spicy tuna, volcano, dynamite, many good ones!!! Open late enough, and the staff is fun!!

Note: On Yelp I review exclusively sushi bars. For sushi, it probably gets two stars, there is a limited bar, and not truly a sushi joint. However, as a Japanese restaurant serving izakaya, the food is excellent and I will return!

My latest obsession at this restaurant is choosing one of their freshly caught fish and having the fish prepared omakase style (chef's selection). If you love surprises like I do, this is a GREAT way to sample delicious, fresh food. Or, if you would rather not be surprised or have a fave way that you want to eat the fish, you can tell the servers exactly what you want/how you want it prepared and they will accomodate as best they can. I've tried so many of their dishes and have never been disappointed. I can't wait to find my next obsession here!

  • Andrew J.

My wife and I have come here several times. We've order many things off of the menu and we've also tried many of their specials. The food has been great, the staff is very friendly and the service has been very good. My favorite thing about this place is that they are open late, until 1:30am, so if we eat a late lunch and want something to eat after we go out, it is very convenient for us.

Excellent authentic food. Crispy bok choy is awesome. All the sushi rolls are above average. The tofu dishes top notch. The BBQ beef and rice is outstanding. The service is extraordinary.

I was hungry. I wanted something close by. Needed delivery or takeout. And, it had to taste good and be a place I hadn't tried yet. I did some searching, read some reviews, and decided that Marumi Sushi might just be the right choice. I placed my order over the phone, and they told me it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I obviously wasn't dining in so I cannot really comment on the true quality of the service, but my food was definitely ready when they said it was going to be ready. I had gotten the Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll & Japanese Cajun Roll and both were really good, but I especially loved the Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll. They said spicy and it was actually spicy. It was probably the best Spicy Tuna Roll I have ever had and that's pretty hard for such a basic sushi roll that I have eaten at so many different places. I am so glad that I found Marumi Sushi; I have been looking for a sushi spot close by and have always traveled to Tamarac when I was craving it. Now I no longer have to do that. Marumi Sushi has a fan in me.

Yes, enjoyed this place. I took my 9 year old daughter out to dinner on a night we were not starving. We decided to be adventurous and try a few small plates we ordered Japanese homemade pickles, asparagus salad, a California roll and ramen soup. We didn't care for the pickles but the asparagus salad was great and we loved the California roll. The kind waitress had to sort my daughter and the ramen noodles out a few times when she got tangled but was very patient. The place is sparkling clean. I can't wait to go back.

I spend wayyyyy too much money here but somehow i keep coming back ! It's great that they open late so my friends and I can eat a real meal and have a few drinks after work. The food is very authentic and izakaya style so everybody can try everything. We always get the spicy tuna salad which has this phenomenal garlic daikon olive oil soy dressing. The yakiniku is very good and they have the best chirashi in the whole south florida. Quick, friendly service and the owners are very nice too! See you sooon, Marumi.

Moved to South Florida a few years ago, and this is the best authentic sushi I have had. They have real wasabi here and the fish is always fresh! Marumi has great service and atmosphere as well. The only thing I can complain about is that they don't open early enough to serve lunch.

Not sure how the service is during the day, but late night service is terrible. My friend ordered an iced green tea, and when she told the server no more she slammed the glass on the table. My sister and I ordered Edamame, Bok Choy, and Duck to start with. All delicious, but when it came to our entrees I decided to try something new. Stick to what you know here, because even if you don't like it you still have to pay for it! The server told me that the Ramen Michelle that I ordered but didn't like was "the most popular soup" and didn't understand why I disliked it. When our check was delivered, I saw the soup was still on the check ($15 of the nastiest food I've ever been served). The server proceeded to tell me that I ate too much of it and he wasn't taking it off of the check. Honestly the worst service I have ever received. The food is decent for a place that stays open late night, but the service you receive just puts a bad taste in your mouth. Good Luck to you when you enter Marumi Sushi!

Love this place and that they are open really late!! There aren't too many sushi places this good that are open this late in Brow County. You must get the Crazy Dynamite Dancing Eel Roll!!!!! Also love the salmon basil roll

Ok, looking for some late night food out of our area and Yelped this place. Open till 1:30am...always a plus. Decor is so so with water stained ceiling tiles, but don't let that scare you. This place was real deal Japanese. No Pedro's behind the sushi bar. In fact so authentic we found it to be slightly intimidating. We ordered the Crispy Bok Choy, 2 Rolls, miso soup, Japanese BBQ, fried oysters, & Noodle stir fry with pork. Everything was EXCELLENT and fresh PLUS stellar service. This is now our new favorite sushi/Japanese place. Too bad we live almost 1hr away.

The freshest and best Japanese food around. The staff is friendly and always so nice to us and our kids. We have been going there for years and it is nice to always see their smiling faces. :-) You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu - its all good, just depends on what you like! So many unusual items on the menu you won't find anywhere else - as well as the standards you expect from a Japanese Rest. We love them... oh and it has the BEST miso soup anywhere - it is just perfect.

Don't be scared off by the menu. This is not your typical run of the mill sushi house, but you won't be disappointed. The fish is super fresh. The tuna sashimi is off the charts. I love the mushroom wrapped in foil and the natural seaweed salad is good too. But be prepared because its not your ordinary seaweed salad. Hands down one of the best things is the beef yakiniku and the galbee short ribs. Give it a try. This place won't disappoint

Great selection of food, sushi was fresh but the service here was beyond horrible! Service was super slow and the servers are not attentive at all! We almost walked out the service was so bad! Food was pretty good though and the fried tempura banana ice cream dessert was almost worth going back for....

I am surprised I've just discovered this place! Friend and I were starving after a seminar and almost everything was closed on a Tuesday night at 10:30! Thanks to Yelp, we found Marumi Sushi and they are open until 1:30 am!!!!!! Authentic Japanese food, very fast and friendly service, and prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu!

My husband and I ate here last week, the service sucked. Definitely not the place if you're in a hurry. Good luck getting them to acknowledge you. We had the crispy bok choy, this was the second time we ordered this, on our first visit it was to die for, this time it was oily and falling apart like ash. I highly recommend the tuna cilantro roll ---delish! The volcano roll was very good too. The spicy Tuna roll was disgusting--- where's the tuna? It was like eating underwood's devil spread from a can. We sent it back The time before that we ordered a Hamachi roll that had fishy odor a big no no for a sushi place. I'll come back for those tuna cilantro roll, keep my fingers crossed I get a good order of crispy bok choy. But it looks like hit or miss here.

Go for everything other than sushi; You can get sushi anywhere. They are also willing to make non-menu items if they have the ingredients on hand. Open late, great staff! If you can draw you might even make a couple of bucks drawing softcore hentai...how many other restaurants would that happen at?

We read a few reviews and sounded good so decided to check it out. In busy strip mall ,,,typical South FL. Food was EXCELLENT , everything from the Eel appetizer to every roll plus the hand rolls that we requested they make "NOT on the menu" (raw scallop with masago and spicy mayo) Everything was 100% fresh , I was very impressed and it takes alot for me to say that when it comes to SUSHI. service was good, , but again, the food was some of best sushi I have had in Florida. I highly recommend this place.

I always try to order something off the white board with the specials. love the tuna and cilantro roll, so many different choices i want to eat and try... def getting a hot pot nxt time! true Japanese culinary happiness is found here

I'm glad to see that there is a late night asian spot that exists in this surburbia area! Being that I am not from around here provides me some solace knowing that I can grab a late night bite when I am craving sushi/Japanese without having to drive out of my way. :) This is a very small restaurant hidden in the corner of a plaza. You can the option of sitting at the sushi bar or at one of the few tables they have to offer within the restaurant. The service is not the best but not the worst. Just average. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for their specials board. They offer many things that many other Japanese/Asian restaurants don't. Food there is never a fail. My favorite item on their menu is their Uni Pasta. :)

First of all, credentials: I lived in Japan for 1.5 years. It's a place I love. I'm temporarily working in Sunrise and first went to Marumi based on the reviews here, but it quickly exceeded all my expectations. Oishi! It's really rare to find something like this jewel in the ocean of poor quality (and mainly non-Japanese owned) sushi restaurants that are all over the US these days. I found Marumi to be an authentic izakaya/pub style Japanese restaurant that cooks from the heart. The name Marumi Sushi itself is almost misleading as the sushi portion of the menu (though good) is not what interests me most here... it's everything else: black pork belly, natto, grilled sardines, fresh fish, sashimi, beef tongue, homemade pickles, ramen, soba, udon, yakiniku (Japanese BBQ), the list goes on and on. Daily specials are written on a whiteboard which is displayed to you at your table and includes fresh catch-of-the-day fish (including Japanese rarities) which can actually be brought to you for inspection before preparation. In the four time I've visited so far (all in a single week!) I would say on average 50% of the clientele are Japanese, usually a good sign. The two chef/owners, Tetsu and Teru, are both Japanese and if you sit at the bar/counter they seem more than happy to make reccomendations or answer any questions. Prices are good, many items between $5-10 but they add up quickly and you can easily spend $100+ as I recently discovered. The fresh whole fish are market price and can be anywhere from $40-100 with various preperations available. There's also a decent sake list included some unfiltered varieties. If there's anything lacking it would be the ambience of yet another strip-mall restaurant but I found the generic exterior doesn't carry over to the inside and that seated at the counter it is possible to forget where you are. Business hours are also a plus as the kitchen is open until 01:30am nightly, also a great rarity for quality food like this in the US. Summary? Perhaps the most genuine Japanese restaurant experience I've had in the US and I'll love it for that. Homely, made with heart. Open late.

4.5. Been here twice. You know is authentic since it is always full with Japanese people. Location: this place is just a small restaurant located in a plaza. There are a few tables and a sushi bar area. Food: must try is the chrysanthemum tempura, we ordered it both times that I have been there and it was super good. Their sashimi is very fresh. We also had the garlic scallops, which was also cooked with spinach. It had a buttery and garlic taste to it, but the butter wasn't too heavy or overpowering, the dish still tasted fresh and light. This would be the place to come if you wanted to try other Jap dishes asides from the typical sushi and sashimi. You can get noodles, rice, don't forget to look for their special for the day.

Great food. Try the spicy octopus salad. Been coming here for at least 2 years great to have a place that's open till 2 am. and great sushi and Japanese food. Friday and Saturday night the service is slow and they don't do costume orders but any other night they will do whatever you ask them even if its not on the menu.

while staying in Pompano Beach, we looked up nearby restaurants to get sushi, which my sister decided on the dinner that night. we looked up restaurants and found Marumi. Marumi is located in a small strip mall, and when you first get there, they have signs/posters written in English but calligraphy style. I thought this was pretty neat. The inside of the restaurant is a typical sushi place layout - sushi bar on the left, and tables throughout the rest of the restaurant. between 4 people, we ordered Ginger Tofu (one of the specials), Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll, Fantasy Roll, Salmon Sashimi, Tuna Sashimi, Oyako Don, Stir Fried Udon, and Miso Sea Bass. overall, the food was okay. there was a lot of inconsistency as some dishes were great and others were just okay. I really enjoyed the Ginger Tofu and Miso Sea Bass. I had the Stir Fried Udon and it just wasn't good at all - very bland, the noodles and toppings were very boring. Even after adding soy sauce and hondashi, my dish was still bland. now, this place is called Marumi SUSHI, and I thought their sushi was very mediocre. the sashimi tasted fresh, but tasted like lower quality fish. the rolls were also very mediocre - not as tasty as specialty rolls should be. and usually when i go out and order specialty rolls, every component of it is so fresh and melts in your mouth, but not the sushi here. one of the pluses was the 2 for 1 hot sake, that was nice. we had a nice meal here as a family, but i don't think i would necessarily rave about the restaurant. i don't live in FL so i'm sure there's other good places, but I really enjoyed Hiro's Yakko San in North Miami Beach.

Marumi transports you to a "locals only" restaurant deep in the bowels of Tokyo... where they speak English. Sure sign of a great place is when the same Ethnicity are patrons, you will see the Japanese diaspora on display during dinner, from J-Pop Kids to Men in Suits. Pay attention to the specials board they put up when you first seat, it changes all the time depending on whats fresh. Must try the Omakase Fish (Chefs Choice on how to cook it for you) it is a great way to eat dinner...always a surprise.

  • Franco M.

This place is awesome. Not only is it open late, but the food is great and they offer many Japanese dishes and fresh Japanese fish that most places won't have. I guess that's why the place always is full of Japanese people that came for dinner which is a very good sign. All the fish is very fresh too. Probably the craziest thing is that they are open every day until 1:30am! The ambiance is casual. The place is dimly lit and good for a date. They also have a couple TVs if you wanna see the football games on Sunday from your table. I haven't been there enough to try anything, but one of the more popular dishes is the crispy bok choy appetizer. It's soooo good!!!

My wife and I went to Marumi Sushii this week and I have to tell you this was one special meal! I had heard through the grapevine the place had very authentic Japanese cuisine and I wanted something special this night so we headed over with high hopes. At first glance the place looks like your average strip mall Sushi joint. The inside is less than spectacular with minimal décor but upon glancing around we noticed that most of the clientele appeared to be of Japanese descent...a good sign in my book! We were very pleasantly greeted and allowed to select our own cozy little booth towards the rear. As the gracious waitress greeted us again she brought over a whiteboard of specials. Some were familiar and some very promising indeed...anybody for Lobster w/Miso Sauce? She asked if we had any questions, then presented us with a tray of 3 fresh, whole Hogfish and 2 Grey Triggerfish and asked if we would be interested in one. She explained that the whole fish could be prepared in our choice of any two ways; Sashimi, Steamed, Deep Fried, Nitsuke (a type of stir fry), or Grilled. I love Hogfish so needless to say that's what I chose. I asked for it to be prepared Sashimi and Nitsuke style. Kat and I would share in the feast. First up on the agenda was a carafe of Wayuraku Cold Sake which was very smooth, crisp and clean. Out of curiosity I ordered the Grilled Black Pork Belly appetizer and she ordered her usual...a plate of Edamame (Soy Beans, steamed in the pod). The Pork Belly came liberally seasoned with salt and black pepper with a hot chili infused grated Japanese Horseradish (not Wasabi), Sliced Scallion, and a Dark Soy dipping sauce alongside. I doubt that I would order the Pork Belly again; it was very nicely flavored but I was expecting something a little less chewy. The Edamame was better, served hot with a light sprinkling of sea salt, and there was a pile of it! Now, about that Hogfish! When the Sashmi came out I had to ask Kat if she had brought her camera. It was beautifully presented. i198.photobucket.com/alb… The taste was similar to Snapper sashimi only lighter with a definite undertone of shrimp flavor...it tasted like the sweet essence of the sea. This was served with the hot chili infused grated Japanese Horseradish (not Wasabi), Sliced Scallion, and a Ponzu dipping sauce on the side. Awesome! The piece de resistance of the evening was the Hogfish Nitsuke. Big juicy chunks of Hogfish were Stir Fried and simmered in a sweetish soy based sauce, with bean sprouts and ultra tender chive blossoms. Holy cow! I thought the Sashimi was awesome but this was just a whole different level ...Yummmm! i198.photobucket.com/alb… I took particular joy in watching my wife, whom I really wouldn't consider a "foodie" meticulously and enthusiastically using her chopsticks to pick the delicate, luscious bits of Hogfish meat from the head. i198.photobucket.com/alb… As we were halfway through devouring this dish our waitress surprised us with a small dish of what I can only describe as a really tasty Japanese ceviche; the chef had thin sliced more of the raw Hogfish which he marinated in rice wine vinegar with red chili oil, scallions, and other spices. The flavor was almost floral with a nice little kick on the finish. Again, it was awesome! For dessert we shared a Potato Girl, two scoops of vanilla ice cream served melting over the top of warm, mashed Japanese sweet potato. It sounds a little odd but really was quite a nice finish to what turned out to be a truly memorable meal. I think Kat summed it up best when she said with a satisfied expression "Wow! That was like great sex!" I couldn't have put it better myself. (Note: This place is Inexpensive with a capital "I". We had 2 appetizers, a carafe of higher end Sake, shared a whole fish prepared not two but three different ways, with dessert and the bill was $75.00)

The best thing about this place is...everything. Located in a daunting strip mall, this little gem is is the place to go if you want mind-blowing deliciousness without clearing out your bank account (that isn't to say that clearing out your bank account couldn't be VERY easy here). Marumi is open late, so it's perfect for night owls. You know this place is good when every table usually has at least one Japanese person at it. Get the fried bok choy. Don't question. Just do it. My personal favorites here are the duck slices, the soft shell crab lettuce wraps, and the garlic stems with beef. I've been here more times then I can remember, but I can't leave without at least having one of those items, so my headway through the menu is slow at best. Everything is quality, everything is delicious. Marumi has brought out a love for Japanese cuisine I never even knew I had. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate. The wait staff is very friendly and never look at round-eyes with disgust, so that's a plus. They are always willing to explain an item that is unclear and be honest about whether it's a dish American's usually like or not. The chefs definitely have a sense of pride in their work and it shows. Food presentation is always beautiful. Marumi is the place to go in Broward for delicious, affordable Japanese cuisine. No doubt about it.

I really don't get it, after reading the great reviews on yelp I drove 40 minutes to get to this place. When I arrived the place was packed, at that point I was sure that I found an incredible Japanese restaurant. This was one of the worst I ever had, I should be rating this place a one star, I am only giving this place a 2 star since only tried three dishes and still don't understand what all of these people where doing there and raving about. I had the crispy bock show which was ok, the spicy salmon horrible, salty ground salmon! and a sashimi dish that was worst then the salmon roll.

I just dont get it! Let me start by writing that I'm 7 months pregnant and all I could think about for months was a good bowl of ramen, we drove from Miami all the way there in the rain only to have the worst meal and the the worst ramen I've ever had in my life, the ramen was sad and had no flavor at all, the gyozas were burnt and unedible because they had no flavor and they were glued to the skillet.we had a few other dishes they were all bad but the ramen and the gyozas we're the saddest of all....very very disappointed, worst meal in south Florida.

Love, Love Love sushi!!! So hard to find real sushi in Florida thought, almost all of them has thai infusion, weird... Anyways, at this plance no. Fresh, good options, service is ok. Two things not too goo: The place needs a very deep "cleaning" and the sushi is very good, but a little salty... Will come back anyways, let's see how will be the second experience in here.

Of all the sushi places I've been to (too many), this is my favorite one. Almost as amazing as the sushi itself, is the enchanting tale of how I found the place. My girl and I missed our flight home from Ft. Lauderdale and they put us in the holiday inn on University drive right around the corner. After we settled in, we started walking down university drive the opposite direction of Sunrise Blvd, because she wanted to simply go to Denny's, and I refused to eat at a Denny's in FL when we could eat it anytime we wanted near her house. It was a sweet walk at first, beautiful houses in private communities along some rivers. But we were hungry. After an hour, a CVS, and three closed down restaurants later, we get frustrated, and I decide to call a cab. Luckily for us, this cabbie turned out to be the coolest dude alive. He asked us if we liked sushi. Being that we are the Sushi King and Queen, I promptly answered, "Are you kidding me!?". He told us about a spot down the road, right around the corner from our hotel. I'll admit, I felt like a moron. Had we just walked towards the Dennys, we probably would have spotted the place from across the street. I will never doubt the Queen again. Oh right, almost forgot about the actual Sushi itself. I got the Crunchy spicey Tuna Roll, JB Tempura Roll and Volcano Roll. My girlfriend got the Mexican Roll and the Spider Roll . Delicious. And we're not big fans of Cream cheese either, and that JB Tempura Roll was wonderful. We also got the spicy tuna roll. Yes, we ate like animals, but that is what I do at a great sushi spot. I eat like a king. Basically we could have probably eaten that entire menu. Everything was fresh and the service was awesome. The atmosphere was great as well, very homey. Also helped that they were playing the football game on tv. I think it was the horrible Raiders so it added a bit of comic relief. What began as a night of epic failure ended up with us having incredible sushi as a prelude to the night of mayhem that followed at the Hard Rock on a Sunday night of all things. If I somehow find myself at plantation florida again, there is ZERO chance of me missing out on this place. If you find yourself in plantation florida because you decided to go back into the gas station store and buy a Miss Fields cookie and cause yourself to miss the boarding time on your flight, YOU NEED TO GO TO THIS PLACE. WOW.

This is an old review that i wrote on this place online a while back and decided to share it here: Ok i have been a sushi chef for almost 3 yrs, so when i eat out i look for very traditional Japanese food. i helped my gf moved to Plantation this weekend and found this restaurant online. we went there that night i was amazed by the uniqued special they had. most of the time the special are written on a board which is placed at the entrance, but if ur seated fast u cant really read the special so u miss out on them. but at Marumi they bring a board with all their specials to your table for you to read. that night i had "beef tongue with miso sause" it was delicious, reminded me of a french stew. then i had "fried silver fish" which was so nice and clean, went very very well with some sake. the next day i requested that we go there again. my gf made fun of me for it but we did go back. that night had one of their special where you get to pick out a fresh fish and you decide what you want to do with it or you can leave it up to the chef, we requested for sashimi and asked the chef to do as he pleased with the rest of the fish, and wow was it good, we were both full and really satisfy with the dinner. as i am writting this review we're tryign to pick another restaurant to go to tonight, and i really want to go back and see how they will amaze me again. so all in all, this restaurant is a must try for all you food fanatic. As for me i sure will be visiting my gf a bit more often now..lol... hope this review was helpfull. (also, that gf is now and x since she didnt like this restaurant..haha..)

The second my boyfriend and I walked into this restaurant we were greeted by smiling waitresses and sushi chefs. The feel of the restaurant was causal & trendy. We were pretty surprised about their hours of operation...Monday-Sunday 5:30 pm-1:30 am. We started off with the crispy bok choy that was highly recommended by Yelp reviewers; and they were absolutely correct with their recommendations. It had a light airy crisp to it with a hint of garlic & soy sauce. As for our entrees, he had the Japanese curry (beef base) which was delicious, I especially loved those little red pickles that came with it. I ordered the angel hair pasta with Uni & Ikura. Mind you, I had no idea what to expect but I had read good things about it on Yelp. When my plate came out I was a little intimidated for I really couldn't identify anything by name except the pasta, a slice of lemon, and wasabi in the corner. I began mixing all the ingredients together with the pasta and went in for the kill. My first bite was full of flavors & different textures that really sent my taste buds running wild. The only thing about it, was that halfway through...the flavors really became richer and richer, so I ended up not finishing it. It had amazing flavors though and I'll probably order it again but with the intention of splitting it with someone. They had a lot of regulars coming in and out, whom the employees knew by name. That's always a good thing to encounter at whole-in-the-wall restaurants.

Great little spot with excellent food. The Wait Staff was a bit sluggish but the food made up for it. Beers were Sapporo and Kirin Ichiban/Kirin Light. Lots of interesting specials on display, tried a few and they were on point. The table visit from a very attentive owner didn't hurt at all. We got a whole fresh catch and surprise preparation of the chef was a Ceviche! AND IT WAS BOMB!!!! Extra points for serving ceviche in Izakaya.

This is by far the best authentic Japanese restaurant in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area. The fish is very fresh and they will even serve local fish caught in the area that same day. Just like in Japan, they show you the fish first and let you decide which exact fish you want to eat, and how you want it served: sushi, steamed, fried, etc. Truly an authentic experience. This rivals and beats many NYC, SF and LA sushi/Japanese restaurants in terms of the quality of food and the authenticity of the menu. Be sure to try any of the daily specials and the special martini drinks. I always stop here when I'm in the area. If you're a foodie and love Japanese food, you will not be disappointed.

The best thing to get here hands down is the uni ikura angelhair pasta. It's not on the menu, either. It's full pieces of uni and ikura tossed in a warm bed of buttery, creamy angelhair pasta. It's a MUST try. Other than that, the sashimi is pretty good. When I first started coming here the sashimii was SO fresh and the portions were much larger. I would give 3 stars based just off the sushi, but the angel hair pasta gets a star of its own.

So, I lived in San Francisco for a long time and ate some really great sushi. This place, I have to say, is the best sushi I have had in a long, long time. We started off with the spicy tuna roll, and it was the best one I have ever had. Then they brought out a fresh lobster and a fresh snapper. I was with a group and they decided to have the chef cut it up and make it the way he wanted. It was so good. We ate raw lobster (you would never think to eat it, but it was awesome), and the snapper was cut so thin and perfect. People probably think this place is too far west, but is is worth the 6 mile venture from 95. Soooo good!

I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our 7th wedding anniversary, and of all the nice places in South FL we could had gone to, she chose Marumi Sushi. Marumi is without a doubt our favorite Japanese restaurant in South FL. Although we're not Japanese, we're always on the lookout for authentic Japanese food and Marumi fits the bill. They differentiate themselves from your typical sushi joint by offering a unique selection of menu items. (Hiro's Yako San in North Miami Beach is the only one that I can say competes directly with Marumi's) As others have mentioned, they present a mobile dry erase board in front of your table with the daily specials. You also have the option of selecting fish/lobster caught locally and having it prepared any way you like it. We tried a freshly caught lobster and the chef prepared it sashimi style as well as cooked in soup. Besides the fresh sushi offerings, I usually order Katsu Don and Curry Beef. Both are reasonably priced and can fill you up. For the kids, we usually order the Spaghetti Napolitan which isn't on the menu but it's a Japanese favorite. Basically, it's spaghetti in a salty/sweet ketchup sauce with pieces of hot dog thrown in. My kids love it as do I. To end a great meal, don't forget to try out the desserts. The dessert menu changes frequently and we had the fortune of trying a melon cake as well as a red bean banana crepe. Japanese desserts tend to be subtlety sweet and that's exactly how we like it. Great service, fantastic food, & family friendly..... this combination keeps us coming back to Marumi.

The food is definitely worth trying because they have many small authentic japanese dishes. They always have creative daily specials and their food is pretty consistent. I like how they are open till 2 am or so on the weekends. Even though I still go back often, I don't think that they have very good customer service. A while back, I went in to eat with a table of about 8 people or so and we ordered well over $150-200. One dish we ordered- beef tongue- did not come the way many restaurants usually serve it which is thinly sliced. It came in huge chunks and we told the waitress that it wasn't what we wanted and we were sorry that we thought it was something else. She took it away and didn't say anything. Automatically, we assumed that they understood and wouldn't charge us for it, but when the bill came, they charged us the $13 dish. We told the waitress that she should have clarified that they would charge us for the dish instead of just taking it away and not saying anything. If they were going to charge us, they should have left the dish on the table whether or not we were going to eat it. The owner then came to our table and said that we ordered it and would have pay for it. We said that what they did was wrong in not telling us what they were planning to do and the owner started cussing at us and saying we were unreasonable. He said that if we ordered it, we should pay for it. We just thought if they wanted us to come back and have good customer service, they should probably not charge us. Anyways, we still go back, but that was just 1 bad incidence.

My boyfriend found this restaurant on this site. We recently moved and were looking for a sushi place to eat since him and I love sushi. Man am I glad he found this place! * As the other user said this place is ONLY open from 5:30pm til 1:30 so it's only good for dinner * The place is located in a shopping center, not HUGE but not too small either. Service is nice and friendly. As soon as you are seated, they bring a white board full of todays specials. The decor is not the best but the food definitely makes up for that. -There Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll is probably the best i'd ever tasted! A little on the small side but still very very yummy! So if you plan on eating it either order a few or eat something with it because you wont get full on just one order. -The Spider Roll is also very good. The soft shell crab itself is fried and the roll is cold. Pretty good size. -We also ordered the Fried JB Roll. It wasn't bad but i've had better elsewhere. All in all this place has awesome food at reasonable prices, if your in the area you should give this place a try.

Our family had a deeelightful intro experience to Marume Sushi. And, as I couldn't possibly say it better and totally concur with, I defer to Michal M's "get to the heart of the matter" review. We're targeting a rainy evening to return to warm-up on the broth and veggies of hot pot!

I found this place through yelp and I must say, due to the reviews I was expecting a lot more. The appetizer was great, I ordered the spicy mayo shrimp. Amazing. As for the entrees, I was highly disappointed. The portions were minimal, and looked nothing like the pictures here, and everything is just served with a salad. Would go there again only for the appetizers.

Was in a mood to have ramen- based upon an experience of loving it from another restaurant in DC. I chose Marumi based on its ratings on Yelp. When I ordered the ramen, I was offered 3 varieties: soy, miso and plain. Not knowing which I'd like I tossed a coin and chose the miso. A big bowl of dark rich broth filed with noodles was brought to the table. Upon first taste, I knew it was not the same as the ramen I had in DC. The flavor was just OK. Also there were few veggies floating around and some slices of fatty pork that while adding flavor to the dish, we're not appetizing to eat. When I asked the waitress about the fatty pork, she looked at me as fatty pork is essential to every bowl of ramen!. She was Asian, and perhaps not fluent in this culture, but her lack of concern for my criticism of the ramen was very odd. Had service been better, I might have given this 3 stars, but no more than that.

A great late night spot, if you are already in the Fort Lauderdale Area... *Great place for JAPANESE Style food* (their sushi is ok) (Service has its ups and downs... sometimes you'll get really attentive servers, and other times you'll get ones that forget you ordered a miso soup or a soda... etc.... but food is always good. ) Yummy dishes: - tuna salad (fresh tuna sashimi w/ a salad) - Special of the day was Grouper carpaccio with garlic (was suuuper unexpected-ly good!) - Tuna Tatake w/ Ponzu - Agedashi Tofu - "Galbee" short ribs. only 6 pieces, so if you have more people at the table, order 2. - Volcano Roll - shrimp tempura, cucumber, and a baked creamy spicy seafood mix on top. So far... the only thing i haven't liked there was the Eel Roll, but I've never been a fan of Eel... so.... That's probably the reason. My friends loved it though.

You know a sushi restaurant is great when you are one of the only Non-Asians in the restaurant:). Marumi has BY FAR some of the best sushi I have tasted. I give them 5 stars for freshness and creativity(Every time you go there there's a specials board with new creations). I love the rolls made with crepe, instead of the traditional rice or seaweed. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because I am not a fan of their curry and curry is one of my favorite meals( their meat is a bit too fatty and sinewy for me)....If you want sushi though, this is a 5 star restaurant!!

My boss and his wife discovered this place and took us to Marumi Sushi. Wow, the food is just spectacular. They do great things with the fresh fish they get in that day. They also make wicked awesome fried baby bok choy which, despite my best efforts, I can't even come close to replicating the crispy tenderness. The way we were greeted when we walked in the door made us feel really at home, very gracious and hospitable. The waitress was super friendly helpful with the menu and suggested this fantastic yuzu based cocktail which was dynamite. Marumi Sushi wins.

This used to be my go to sushi place til I found Kiko's (much closer to my house), but I still like this place because of the different style of sushi. I always get something off of their specials menu, and it never disappoints.

Like a previous reviewer mentioned, this place is actually owned by Japanese people, a rarity compared to the many Thai/Sushi places that are springing up in the area (what's up with that?). That being said, I like the fact that you can try many non-sushi/roll items, and so far, they have been pretty good. Another good thing is that they are open late, till 1:30 am I believe, which is good for those late night cravings. The only reason I deducted a star is because my last eating experience here was not so good. We ordered the ikura uni angel hair pasta which was not to my liking. It came as a mountain of pasta with a meager portion of uni/ikura. The flavors didn't blend well together, the uni was mushy, fishy and not fresh, the ikura was also not fresh. I'd rather they offer it over rice with fresher ingredients. Secondly, we had already ordered something deep-fried, and when we looked at the specials on the board, we also ordered a crispy fish. The board didn't say it was deep-fried, so we assumed it was oven-baked and crispy on the outside. The result was that it was deep-fried - too much deep-fried food. And the fish had no real flavor besides the lemon wedges supplied. Room for improvement would be to make sure they put the correct description on the board or maybe have the waitress warn you when ordering too much deep-fried food. Also, it would be cool if they offered sukiyaki or shabu-shabu and different types of yakitori. Besides that, everything else is good here.

First things first. If you like your sushi with cream cheese, mango, tempura-fried or sauced, you probably won't like it here. If you like simple, fresh & authentic, you'll like Marumi. Not being a wiseass. I'm down for the occasional fru- fru Mexican Las Olas Roll. Just statin' the facts. Right now, Marumi is one of my favorite restaurants in Broward and my first five-star review. Ambience be damned. If given the opportunity to choose a place to eat with no other considerations than my selfish desires, I point the car to Plantation. A number of reviews mention the ambience. True, ambience is non-existent. The restaurant is located in a non-descript strip mall that has kind of a cool post-apocalyptic vibe in the evenings. However - Marumi is clean and comfortable and the wait staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Personally, I could eat dinner in a dumpster so long as the food is top-notch, so keep that in mind that when considering this review. Don't get me wrong, the place is fine, but it isn't exactly the Fontainebleau. We take most out of town guests to places on Las Olas or the beach, but Marumi is where I take foodie friends. My brother and sister-in-law are from DC, extremely into their food, accustomed to great restaurants, and every time they visit they clamor for Marumi. Call ahead to make sure they have whole fish. If you're really into fresh fish, it's the way to go. They seem to often have hog snapper and triggerfish, both of which I've enjoyed. You can ask them to prepare the fish in a number of ways, but we normally have them bring out sashimi followed by a stir-fry with chive sprouts. Order the fried baby bok choy with garlic while you're looking the menu over. Don't question me. Just do what I say. We also typically supplement our meals with pieces of sashimi or nigiri. They have the freshest uni (sea urchin) I've had anywhere. If you like uni, don't miss it. If you haven't had uni, it's a bit different and can be a little intimidating. Order a piece and have the waitress explain it to you. Tastes like sweet crab and ocean brine to me. The scallop on the last visit was amazingly fresh and rich as well. We've also run our way through a cornucopia of local fishies; cobia, wahoo, grouper, etc., all of which have been impossibly fresh. Our most recent trip was typically fantastic and a tad educational. As others recount, they bring a board to your table to explain the specials of the day and there is a small whiteboard on the wall near the sushi kitchen that breaks down the a la carte items from the sushi bar. The special menu includes items in Japanese with English translations and normally an item or two with no English translation, which always piques our interest. This night, the untranslated specials included a black seaweed salad and an item called shiokara, which our waitress mistakenly described as "fresh squid." She warned us (twice) that most Americans don't like it. She may have well as removed her glove, slapped us in the face and challenged us to a duel. We ordered it. So...it turns out that shiokara is not "fresh squid" but fermented squid guts (entrails) in malted rice. Yep. My brother who was three Kirins and two sakes away from sober, felt obligated to eat every last bit, to prove that ordering it wasn't a mistake. Imagine the smell of a bucket full of bait left to cook in the August sun. Shiokara smelled worse. I googled it after our meal and it is prepared by packing squid guts into a container with malted rice and letting it sit for a month. Yum. It looks like orange pudding chock full o' guts (sorry, no pic). Anyway, we were told it is a popular bar food in Japan with sake...think it may be awhile before you see it served at Hooters. In any case, we enjoyed the adventure. We ordered a small triggerfish and a fresh lobster which they brought out to dance for us before they put it under the knife. They served the lobster as sashimi in the shell with a small bowl of ceviche on the side and finished with a miso soup made with the lobster head, which was great. The lobster meat is plated with the head center stage which made for the oddest moment of the night. The lobster antennae were still moving when were picking through the sashimi, which sent my wife into peals of uncontrollable laughter and presented us with a bit of a carnivore's dilemma. We also ordered pieces of uni, scallop, grouper, masago and quail egg, and aji, which is a type of mackerel. Everything was fantastic start-to-finish. Final Notes: They serve late (1:30AM) and 7 days a week, which is unique for the Broward burbs. The sushi chefs are Japanese. Japanese families and groups usually occupy about half the tables...which...stop me if you've heard this one before...is a very good sign of authenticity. If you live in Broward and are into authentic Japanese, this place has to be at the top of your list.

This is a surprise in a strip mall in Sunrise! I have now been here 3 times and I'm still impressed! Sess (sp?) has got to be one of the best servers ever and we are never disappointed by her recommendations. If you are looking for Americanized sushi rolls, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking to try real Japanese food and open your eyes to some wonderful items not found at most restaurants in South Florida, run (don't walk) to Marumi! And did I mention they have a fantastic sake selection???

I've eaten in some of the best restaurants in the country and little did i know this place was right around the corner from my house!!! Florida is an endless stream of bad, overpriced restaurants. This place is exactly the opposite. We go at least once a month and have yet to be disappointed by anything on the menu. I dont even look at the menu. I only order off of the specials board. You have to get there early to get the direct from Japan specials but OH BOY are they worth it!! Service is great too.

Do you not know what to do with some of the fish you catch sometimes? Take them in a cooler to Marumi and bring a group of friends. I felt like I was on an episode of Iron Chef. Every dish that they brought out was awesome. We ate everything from standard mackerel sushi to triggerfish(usually just throw them back) soup. Amazing.

Always on the lookout for something new, I decided I wanted to try Japanese food that wasn't just sushi. Saw the great reviews on this place and looked over the menu. Saw natto , something I've never seen on any other menu and have never tried (saw it on an episode of Iron Chef Japan). That and wanted to try a place that was open so late in case I get a hankering for sushi at midnight (open till 1:30am daily). Just west of University on Sunrise in CVS complex. Small place in strip mall. Inside was very minimal on decor, some booths, tables and a sushi bar. Unusual in that you can't see the chefs working/rolling/slicing but lots of fire leaping up. Waitress was a lovely girl from Malaysia. Knew her menu and was able to describe everything on the menu and on the very extensive special board (maybe 20 things on that board). There was 4 of us, we ordered and shared family style: Grilled Eggplant w/ Miso and cheese-a revelation to 2 eggplant haters. Sweet and soft, it was really an amazing dish. The haters were wolfing this down. Japanese Tai Garlic carpaccio-a standout dish, the white fish was delicate the slightly salty toasted garlic was amazing. I could eat a couple of orders of this by myself. I was sad when it was gone. Natto w/avocado and tuna-wow, I normally love to try something new but this must be an acquired taste. Served wrapped in a lettuce leaf. It was a bit slimey. I hear the Japanese love it. Grilled giant sardines-very fishy and great grilled flavor but lots of bones. Deep fried bok choy- it's ok, nothing I'd write home about. One person really dug it. There is a sauce on the very bottom that's hidden by the bok choy. Goes well with it. Eel Don- good eel and lots of it. The eel lover was happy. Seafood hot pot-very mild and I didn't think the flavor remarkable. Volcano roll-it was ok, run of the mill. Would like to try their other sushi another time. Grilled duck breast- a single breast, sliced. It was flavorful and came with a spicy topping. I like my duck a bit on the med rare side so it was cooked more than I liked but was moist and flavorful. Galbee- we were expecting more Korean style ribs. No wow. Sweet potato girl- vanilla ice cream served over mashed boiled sweet potato. An interesting combination. It was not overly sweet and the flavors complemented each other. Service was charming, quick and very personable. It started getting quiet crowded around 10pm. Only complaint was that the table was sticky but I think it had an odd coating on it since it didn't seem to be food. Would definitely be returning and bringing hungry friends. Total bill was $116+tip.

We have continued to go here regularly now for the past year. My favorite item that I order as soon as my butt hits the chair is the crispy baby bok choy...a MUST! I also love their dressing on the house salad, a miso garlic delight. If you like tofu, the tofu steak is awesome, served smothered in cooked onions and mushrooms (I even come get this too go). It looks like many yelpers have tried this place since I first reviewed, but if you are not one of them, get over there and give it a try!

Probably the only truly authentic Japanese restaurant in Broward County. I stopped here for lunch and they had plenty of donburis, soba, udon, and ramen bowls. I ordered a tuna steak donburi. The tuna was ok, the sauce was fine, and it laid ontop a bowl of sticky rice. It came with a nice plate of salad and some green tea (which they charge $1.50 for). My mom ordered miso ramen, and my brother ordered tempura udon noodles. The miso ramen looked ok, nothing special. It had naruto, sliced pork, and some veggies. The tempura was fried poorly for my standards but the udon noodles were good. The ambiance is simple: open kitchen, kitchen seating, and tables. Just what you expect out of Japan. The staff are friendly and the majority of them are Japanese. EDIT: After returning here for dinner, this place is pretty good! They have FRESH selections of fish (you get to pick them!) to have served in a sweet sauce, steamed, fried, or even SASHIMIED for only $1.20/ounce. We chose this beautiful snapper to have half sashimed, half sweet sauce. The fresh sashimied snapper had an amazing delicate texture combined with a wonderful ponzu onion sauce. It was sliced so perfectly thin! The sweet nitsuke other half was quite good. It was perfectly cooked and juicy, and the sweetened sake blended so well with the fish that I vowed to get every piece of meat off of it. They usually serve it with some fresh tofu on the side, too! The curry tonkatsu was covered in a delicious brown curry with potatos, onions, and carrots paired with sticky short grain rice just like the streets of Tokyo. They even had TORO tuna for only $18 for about 6 sashimi slices and 2 wraps. Too bad they don't serve otoro. The calamari was nice witht he mayo sauce, the negiyaki was good and finally we ended with a delicious chocolate parfait with strawberries, bananas, and cantaloupe with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. Although, I wish they had red bean, green tea, and taro ice cream just like I had the parfaits in Tokyo... 4 stars! The service is great and lots of local Japanese here!

Best tuna tataki and beef with garlic stem. One of the best Asian restaurant in South Florida.

Perhaps my expectation were high or the standard for sushi around this area of Florida is low. Maybe a little bit of both? Make more mistake the sushi was fresh and the chef construct each roll with great care and dedication, I see it myself since I was sitting at the bar. However, output of flavor leaves you with a lot to be desired. I attempted to order the spider roll; one of their best roll but they were out soft shell crabs, really disappointing. Service was super good; will give this place another try when I'm in town again. All in all a fresh and authentic Japanese cuisine.

User Alert: Hours are from 5.30 pm to 1.30 am. Only. So don't think about a lunch stop. I want to add that this place just keeps getting better and better. I'm afraid I'm going to become a super-regular. I'll make some comments that are different than the previous posters: - try the hotpot. it's very fresh, has high-quality ingredients.. I had the seafood hotpot and it was made with larger, tasty scallops (well-cooked, not over or under) and also had some great pieces of octopus. And if you eat octopus, many times it's overcooked and very rubbery, which takes away from the experience. - eat off the daily special menu. There's always good stuff there. I had the fried bok choy as a starter, which was delicious. No rocks or anything in it, which is sometimes the case when you get bok choy, since it's pretty hard to clean thoroughly. But, at $8.50 for a small plate, it's a littleeeee expensive. - if you want to go with a fish dish, ask to see the fish. They'll bring it out to you on a tray and you can pick the one you want. They'll tell you if it's male or female. They'll also give you options like sashimi half and cook the other half how you want it. That's great service!

This was a great sushi place. In the interest of full disclosure, I don't like fanciful, Americanized rolls, but I tried a few pieces of my friends'. I wouldn't recommend those. Their sashimi on the otherhand was extremely fresh, as was their more conventional sushi rolls. their green tea was superb. Their homemade dumplings were very good, but I can't say the same for their homemade pickles, which were not pickly enough for me. Get the Japanese parfait, which is a towering stack of ice cream, red beans, corn flakes, and whipped cream. Sounds weird, but it was delicious and big enough to share with two other people.

inevitably, this place will garner comparisons with yakko san. they have a similarly designed menu, but i do have to say that the food here is excellent. started with ika mentaiko, then had the special spicy creamy crispy chicken which was prepared exquisitely. tasty and super tender (from grilling, then broiling). the yakiniku also had a nice marinade and was prepared expertly. my only comment on the spinach scallops stir fry, is that i would have liked better scallops, but the butter sauce was done well. for sure i'll be back to the have the fresh local fish nitsuke style (depends what the local boats bring back), and to try their other dishes, including ramen. so if you are looking for another japanese place that does stuff like the crispy bok choy, chrysanthemum tempura, grilled black pork belly, etc. this is it

it was def. very good. but, in the inevitable comparison between hiro and this place, i think the battle goes hiro. the menu was good and varied but the waitress seemed rather annoyed when i asked her to explain some of the specials, something that highly annoys me. when did good service become a crap shoot? pork belly was flavorful but texture was odd. good gyoza was typical in flavors. sushi was also nothing out of the ordinary. prepared food was good. delicious squash tempura which is hard to find in MIA.

The first thing that came to mind as I entered was: "WOW, they are packed! Must be good" but I guess that a lot of people do not know good sushi. The sushi was waaaaayyyyy too salty. It was fresh, but was not rolled properly. I took my parents and my husband here because our favorite sushi place was closed and we were a little disappointed. We ordered 8 different rolls for the 4 of us. Every rolled we picked up fell a part. They had too much rice that just wasn't the right consistency. It was so salty that I couldn't use most of my soy sauce and wasabi mixture I had going. Every time I attempted to dip the falling apart roll I would leave half of it inside the mixture. Now, the service here is so slow. They are not attentive at all. They either need more staff or the current staff they have need to step it up. Another thing that caught my eyes was that this place seriously needs a better cleaning service. If they are cleaning themselves, they need to do a better job. Not just on the floors, but the dust on the blinds, the chairs and tables too.

Seriously amazing food! I live in Seattle ( with an over saturation of Japanese restaurants) and this is the best I've had. I'm used to Izakaya and lots of family-owned authentic restaurants here on the Pacific NW, but nowhere was I able to find a true unpretentious, yet ridiculously flavourful Japanese dining experience until my gf dragged me here. I look forward to visiting my folks in Broward every year just so I can eat at Marumi several times in the week. Their Yakiniku Donburi ( BBQ Beef bowl) is a godsend with tender broiled pieces of marinated beef on a bed of rice cooked with as much heart as perfection. Among other items on the menu, I'd highly recommend the grilled pork belly, which is basically thick-cut bacon grilled nicely shioyaki style. Everything on the menu is pretty much tops, as well as ecclectic, so feel free to be adventurous-note the potato girl dessert. This place beats out Yakko San hands down and is a hidden gem in Sunrise, just past University Dr. within 5-10 mins of Tate's Comics ( for those hungry Otaku). Tell your friends. We need to support good restauranteurs, so they can continue to be around to make tasty food.

The food quality here is acceptable to good for Florida standards, although we did detect an excess of salty sauces on some fish dishes. The bad news is that you don't get much for your money. The waitress explains that the food is served "tapas style", which is another way of saying you want rice, you pay extra, you want some vegetables, you pay more. We did order a bowl of brown rice at a cost of $2.50. It was really half a bowl and neither cooked fresh nor hot when served. After all is said and done you can spend a lot of money and leave the restaurant feeling dissatisfied and hungry. Atmosphere also leaves you feeling something is missing in such a shabby place. This restaurant most assuredly could not survive in a place like NY or LA, where fine Japanese restaurants abound. South Florida needs more competition when it comes to Japanese food and Asian food in general.

Absolutely LOVE this place for sushi. Always dead on with quality. the Bok Choy app is delicious, I always have the hogfish snapper, I have them do one half sashimi and the other half stir fried. Ask the server for house specialties and recommendations. One of the sushi chefs is from Nobu, not sure which one. Very Casual atmosphere, can dress up or down. Open late night.

since moving to a new part of fort lauderdale i have found that i was in a black hole for oriental cuisine. the closet sushi place was one of those sushi/thai combo joints, and i find that most of those places don't do either food justice. i read about marumi a few weeks back and finally had occassion to go this weekend when friends from jupiter were in town. marumi is a little bit of a distance from my place, but the food would have been worth a drive of twice as long. we got there around 6:30 and were quickly seated in a booth. the waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly (which almost completely makes up for her absentmindedness). the daily specials board contained all sorts of interesting dishes; i'm a huge fan of pork belly and they had sautéed black pork belly (from the black boar) which i ordered. it had melt in your mouth baconlike flavor, but richer and with a less crunchy texture. it was served with a dipping sauce that included piles of scallions and spicy horseradish that i was able to add to taste. i'm a sushi fanatic gong through a solid sashimi phase, so i ordered the smallest of their three sashimi combos and asked for whatever the sushi chef liked. i got a beautiful plate with enough food to fill my belly. unlike the combos at some places, this was not just tuna salmon and commonplace pieces: this was variety and quality at its finest. every piece was excellent, and i offered tastes of unidentified fish to less adventurous eaters around the table, who all enjoyed. my lady got a ramen noodle dish that i thought was tasty (as did she) and our friend ordered teriyaki that they raved about. the only downside to our experience (and it was very minor) was the service, and we really didn't mind sitting in our both drinking beer and watching the fantastic plates coming out of the kitchen. and when we left, there was a line at the door and the majority of the diners were japanese. to me, that is the number one testament to an ethnic restaurant. i will definitely be back.

Great place! drove all the way out here from south beach because yakosan was closed for their employee holiday party. So we drove down to their new place which they recommended which has basically the same menu. The drive wasn't horrible if you are craving this food and had your mind set on it for a few days....Everything is good here, just choose what sounds good and share tapas style...!

Consistently good food. I always get the seaweed salad and miso soup to start. Seaweed salad is enough for two to share. Sushi is always fresh, I usually just opt for a Rainbow Roll. For dessert, you absolutely have to try the crepe with Adzuki beans. I'm not exactly sure what they call but it doesn't matter because it's delicious! This is about the only place in the area that is open late and serves quality food. A few times I've had the same server who was great (I wish I remembered her name). She answered all of our 293,470 questions and even suggested the dessert I mentioned above. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of service. Once, we had such a rude server when we ordered drinks that we got up and left. We were surprised and a bit disappointed because we were really excited for a meal here. Another server, a different time, was just ok. She wasn't very friendly, and we even tried being nice but I guess she wasn't in the mood. It'd be nice if management could recognize the star employees and have them train the other staff. That way a few bad apples won't spoil the bunch.

Although I can't remember exactly what I ordered, I do remember the service being terribly slow. Couldn't get a friendly smile out of anyone there. They were slightly busy at the time of our visit, but I never think service should be compromised because of it. Because I don't remember what I ate, that must mean it wasn't amazing but it wasn't gross either. So I'll venture to say your average sushi. Maybe the other menu items are what wow other Yelpers.

I've been here 3-4 times. I was lured by the raving Yelp reviews, and keep coming back hoping each time maybe they were having an off night. For sushi, I've had better. Don't get me wrong the fish is fresh, but their speciality rolls are blah. Probably one of the worst shrimp tempura rolls I've ever had. The ramen was bland, you have to pay extra for the vegetables, and the meat was extremely tough. Dumplings had a weird taste to it that I can't put my finger on, too much ginger? I do have to say that I have never had anything off of their specials menu or some of their Japanese items (except for gyoza & ramen) which get most of the rave reviews. I will update again when I try more of those items. Service is hit or miss. Sometimes they are friendly and attentive, but sometimes they are too busy chatting with each other and watching TV. I do notice that regulars get recognized and get superb service. I love the fact that they are open late, which is why I keep coming back. Like I said, I need to try their specials menu and other items and will update.

I've been here several times and although many of my friends absolutely love Marumi, I can't give it a solid 5 stars even though I thoroughly enjoy the place. While I won't deny that the food is authentic and delicious, the service is slooowwwww. I understand better than anyone what it's like to serve a busy restaurant with only two waitresses, but even when there have only been three total occupied tables, the service was a lot slower than it should have been. On several occasions, it has taken me upwards of half an hour to get my check after I asked for it and then another 15-20 minutes just to get it picked up. Meanwhile, my glass of water remained unfilled. Despite their pace, the servers have always been pretty friendly. What I do like, however, is that Marumi has a great variety of foods that you usually can't get at other Japanese restaurants. Although it's called Marumi SUSHI, I rarely order any sushi rolls there since you can honestly get sushi rolls anywhere else. Instead, I indulge in the small dishes and specials, and I would recommend others to do the same! I would not order ramen there as it leaves much to be desired, but I do enjoy their japanese katsu curry (difficult to find at Japanese restaurants), miso stuffed eggplant with cheese and seafood, oyster specials, and so on. My siblings also love the yakiniku don there; better than anywhere else they've tried. They also have a good selection of seafood and whole fish, and sashimi/carpaccio. For dessert they once had green tea cheesecake, but I haven't seen it since and I wish they would bring it back! A big plus is that Marumi is open LATE and every day, but their often slow (understaffed?) service and high prices for the portion size (it adds up fast) is what's keeping me from giving them a full 5 stars.

Not the best sushi, its OK. i think their hot plates are probably better to order than the sushi if you are looking for japanese food. Service was good! Tried the fried smelt I had heard lots about but isnt for me. I had the vilcano roll, it was good but baked seafood had way too mch cream cheese to my liking! Maybe ill come again if im hungry late at noght since they open til 1:30am!

Food was okay but nothing to go out of your way for. I came here by mistake thinking it was another Japanese restaurant nearby. We could not leave since the friends we had meet us there had already ordered appetizers. The waitress was really nice but I like the food in the other place better. The place is small, casual and comfortable. The miso soup and edamame were not very enjoyable. Soup was unusual as it had carrots and edamame was flavorless with weird texture. The raw rolls were just okay. The standout one was the fantasy roll. Sometimes you discover wonderful things by mistake. This was not one of those times.

This has to qualify as my worst dining experience I have ever had. Sat down. Ordered. First dish came out.. ten minutes later. Second dish. Ten minutes later again first sushi plate. Ten minutes later two more entrees for our party. Ten minutes after that our final two b sushi plates show up. 40 minutes from our first entree to the last. Each time somebody was able to finish their entree before the next persons entree came out. Finally with the last entree the waitress says thanks for waiting. Food was ok. Though I agree the ceviche roll looks horrible though tastes ok. That said even with decent food the service was god awful and the kitchen apparently completely disjointed. Did also notice what another reviewer mentioned that a ten person table with Japanese guests arrived after us and was served promptly. crowded Sunday night but still not an excuse.

I put Marumi on my bookmarks for awhile now, finally having an opportunity to check it out and I must say that I am not disappointed. Located in a quiet plaza next to Stein mart, the outside is not appealing, at all, nor is the atmosphere inside. When we walked in, it was super dark and a little dreary but the place was packed so we were excited to try it. Upon sitting down, we ordered our drinks and looked at the menu. A very extensive menu with a vast array of different items to choose from. For the ones with adventurous palettes, this place is for you! I ordered the salmon onigiri and was pleasantly surprised. The rice was warm and the salmon was super moist. It was great. I've never had onigiri before but I would definitely get it again. I only came here for the sushi so I ordered the volcano roll (sans cucumber) and it was outstanding. One of the better sushi rolls I've had. The spicy seafood mix was so flavorful and fresh, not to mention spicy! I love the added kick to it. The portion was amply sized, too. Although the decor and atmosphere leaves much to be desired, the food is definitely one of a kind and their sushi is awesome. They're worth checking out! Enjoy.

The sushi was decent at best; fish was not fresh. Service was awful-- our waitress was disastrously inattentive. Lastly, I would bet money that their house sake was watered down! If you're looking for a good sushi joint, go elsewhere.

Home in Las Vegas is full of amazing all-you-can-eat sushi bars. When I moved out to Fort Laudy, I was really disappointed in the sushi bar selections. The rolls were boring and overpriced. And then Marumi came along. A fellow west coast friend that moved out here had previously dined here and suggested to kick off girl's night over sushi. She promised me that Marumi was good, unlike the other sushi places I've tried. Their menu is pretty extensive past their nigiri and rolls. They have a good selection of appetizers and noodle dishes and dinner specials. For myself, I ordered a salmon roll (simple 8 piece roll with salmon inside for $6), a ceviche roll (basically think of ceviche encased in seaweed and rice, it's actually really good) and the white fish and uni roll (picture posted). The white fish and uni roll blew my mind. Although only 5 pieces, the roll is huge in size. They don't skimp out on the uni. The uni didn't taste old or grimy - it was fresh and had the good nutty flavor I love. The restaurant itself isn't too big but has a nice homey feeling to it. The servers are attentive, took our order in a timely manner, topped off our waters and even gave us split checks between four people. Naturally, in my opinion, this place doesn't come close to what's back home when it comes to what you get for the price. if you have a large appetite, your bill at Marumi's will rack up quick. But as for the food, it's the best sushi I've had in Fort Lauderdale. I'll definitely be back when my sushi craving hits!

Every time I come to the restaurant I always end up getting the rude white girl as a waitress. I do not know her name however I am tired of lack of customer service and being ignored for a long amount of period. The company does nothing when it comes to compensating the time being wasted and I do not know how they function without a manger. I am not going to waste my money in a terrible place that doesn't hold a high standard for their customers happiness.

I never used to eat seafood until this year but their sushi and service were really great. We loved the fancy roll, a dinner salad, mexican roll with iced green tea. This establishment was horrendous! Not only was the service dreadful, but the food was extremely disappointing. Me and my sister are both sushi lovers and work in the service industry and we were so shocked at how horrible this place was. The sushi not only looked bad, but tasted even worse. It definitely was not fresh, and had a nasty taste to it. I ordered the volcano roll, and my "seafood mix" did not taste or look like seafood! This place has made me not want to step foot in a sushi place for a while, this experience will definitely take time to get over and i do NOT recommend it to anyone wish a sushi craving.

The sashimi here was amazing! A great place to go and order appetizers and drinks. Didn't try any rolls and the sushi was good but the sashimi is a must. So fresh and tons of different types of fish. We also tried the grilled duck app and that was delicious but very small. The service was excellent as well. We went shortly after they opened around 6 and we were seated right away. Definitely will return.

Wow. The food is amazing. I've been here a few times now with a group of friends and we always order a variety and share so we can try a little bit of everything. A few of my favorites are the grilled octopus, lotus root, and the michelle ramen. It's cute that they have a big board on a stand listing their specials, and they move it around close to the table that is about to order. It's a very casual atmosphere and you might have to call the server over if you need something, but I never really expect top notch attentiveness at Asian restaurants. Only one notable con: they're only open for dinner; but they do have late hours!

If this is the best sushi place in Sunrise, I'm screwed. I went last night after reading the Yelpers' reviews and have never been so disappointed. Maybe it's because I lived in California for a decade and have an idea of what good sushi is supposed to taste like. I ordered some basic things, like a spicy tuna roll and hamachi roll. And started with Miso Soup and Iced green tea. The iced green tea was made with brown rice. Notification of this prior to ordering would have been nice. I drank it because it's good for me, but it's like drinking wheatgrass through a dirty sock. The miso soup was good - but lukewarm. The sushi? Very mediocre. I don't whine a lot and I usually trust Yelpers when directing me to good restaurants. But Marumi is a stinker and I will continue to seek out good sushi. People ... drive to Naples and have just one meal at DaRuMa. THAT is what sushi is supposed to taste like!

The one time I went here I had their volcano roll- HORRIBLE MISTAKE. it smelled so bad when they brought it out but my server told me it was all fresh and that that was how it always smelled... so I reluctantly took a small bite while she stared at me. First and last bite... my taste buds sure hated me for even putting such foul tasting food in my mouth.

I'm not sure I see what all the fuss is about. I met a friend here for dinner on a Tuesday night around 7 pm. We were the only people in the place, there were about 10 people working that night, and they were all standing around watching Deco Drive on Channel 7. I like that show as well, but unfortunately our booth didn't face the TV. We ordered the Kale chips which were good but were pretty greasy for me like the oil wasn't hot enough and they didn't cook fast enough. We tried to order some other steak dish, which they were out of. So we shared a big soup, which was pretty good, not as good as next store at East Meets West, and the pork belly. The pork belly wasn't crispy at all, or really all that flavorful to be honest. It reminded me of a really thinly pounded pork chop but just chewier. Perhaps our mistake was not ordering sushi? So IF I try it again, I'm only going to try the sushi.

When I came here months ago, the food was fantastic, but this week's meal was sadly not up to par. Perhaps they changed chefs or ingredients, but it was just very average. For the portion and quality, it just didn't match the price. The hunt is on for a new good sushi place. Sorry Marumi.

I can't live without my sushi and sashimi. Ever since moving to BPB, I've been on the hunt for my go-to sushi spot. Luckily I stumbled upon this place. Now, I usually just stick with sushi houses that don't serve anything other than sushi, but this place has managed to serve good sushi and other tasty dishes simultaneously. I've been here a couple of times and have been pleased with the service and the quality of food. Wait staff here is very welcoming and do a good job in keeping your water glasses and tea cups full. Their sushi is pretty fresh. I've hard their white fish and uni roll, and that was amazing. If you're an uni lover, I definitely suggest you order this. Their other rolls such as the spider roll, crunchy spicy tuna roll, and crazy dynamite dancing eel were tasty as well (although they can be on the heavier side with all the sauces). I also tried one of their specials, forgot what it's called though. It was a grilled fish with a light soy dipping sauce that was really good. They also have ankimo (monk fish liver). It was smaller than what I'm used to seeing, but at least the price wasn't inflated. I've had better anikmo but I wouldn't complain about it. Bento boxes here are like your typical boxes that you'd find at any Japanese place, nothing too distinguishing. Overall, I'm pleased with this restaurant. Service is fast, staff is friendly, fish is fresh. They always have specials going on, so make sure to take a look at their board! I also like how they're open for late night eats. I mean, I've definitely had sushi cravings at 11pm before and now I know where to get my fix.

I love it here.. I just moved to New York, so I have been having my fair share of delicious sushi ( nomadicmatt.com/travel-b… ) but I still miss my spicy tuna rolls at Marumi! When I found out a late night sushi spot was open, I was going to just brave whatever they had because I work late & love sushi... But on top of the late hours, they had delicious rolls? Win-win. It's not a huge fancy restaurant, but it is nice and cozy.

We went to Marumi when our daughter told us about it. She used to work at a sushi restaurant & her fellow employees took her there after hours to show her what real Japanese food is like. It's authentic, it's unique, it's delicious. Don't expect a typical sushi bar - the sushi chefs don't chit-chat & the atmosphere isn't impressive. But I love this place! Crispy bok choy is a must-have. The soups are great. The wasabi is freshly grated. Treat yourself & check it out. You'll go back.

WOW! You walk in, and you know this place is great... there are people with Asian ethics all over the restaurant. After having the food, I can see why. Best sushi I've ever tasted! Even though it took us 30 minutes to get us there, I will totally come back!

Great sushi place!! Loved the ramen soup and the volcano sushi and fried smelt! Mmmm! The service is great and the ambiance very authentic!

This place is known as the 2nd best restaurant to dine at. The food is authentic and amazing. Tons of fish dishes as well as a variety of sushi.

I love this place for a late night bite in broward. What can you say about a place that is open past 1am and has amazing food. The crispy bokchoy are a must and everyone will thank you for introducing them to this dish. The duck is good and the curry udon is amazing! The best thing to do is treat this as a tapas place and order a bunch of dishes of the board they put in front of your table. They have great beer and sake so drink up and enjoy the delicious adventure.

Menu has change slightly, but the food is still on par. Service was super, the staff was very pleasant.

This a very casual and neighborhood friendly restaurant. I highly recommend checking out the board of specials, this is where I order 75% of my dishes. If available, always order the giant oysters, monkfish liver pate, and hamachi. Some of my all time favorite would include the uni angel hair pasta and the michelle ramen. The angel hair pasta with uni is one of the most refreshing and delicious things I have countered in a long time. It's a must try! The michelle ramen is your traditional ramen noodles with beef. The broth is rich and smoky. To top it off, there's truffle oils in it. Oh-my-lanta .. it smells soooooo good. Every bite is savory and decadence.

Authentic Japanese cuisine. Fresh fish! Been coming here for years. Always good service. I love nigiri and sushi and they have their fresh fish on point.

I've eaten at Marumi about 5 times now and absolutely love the authentic Japanese food they serve. The key word is authentic. Some of the menu items may be unfamiliar but the servers are always willing to help. Great place for trying new food along with the classics. The specials board always has some interesting items and is a great feature of this restaurant. This is much more than just a sushi place, so I suggest trying any of the ramens, seafood, stews, soups and other items. Fresh ingredients, perfectly prepared in an authentic Japanese way...awesome!

Good food , but bad waiters. Looks like skin color influences the way waiters treat you!!

You must give this place a try! The tsunami roll and the bok choy shouldn't be missed from your experience here.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in South Florida. I love that it's open late, the staff are very friendly and the food is fantastic. My husband and I have been here at least a dozen times, probably more. The sushi is fantastic, the spicy soy wrapped salmon roll is my absolute favorite! We always get the crispy bok choy, and usually a few things off the specials board. It's a small informal place in a strip mall, but it's wonderful.

The food here is so good and very authentic. I could take or leave their sushi, but their Japanese menu is so good. Their crispy bok choy appetizer is a must.

I use to come here with some friends when i 1st moved to South fl. Been meaning go back. Always had a memorable meal here! Delish Authentic flavors, chill service(cant be in a hurry coming here), sharing style plating(jap tapas), and open really late! Must try and be open minded! Uni Ikura pasta(sea urchin roe n salmon roe on top of angel hair) is my fave!

Really delicious sushi. Not a huge menu for sushi small and simple but still good. We ordered sushi and were full and satisfied. Really good prices probably the cheapest I have seen in the Ft Lauderdale area. The edamame was pretty plain though. Wish the would have topped it with sea salt or something.

The food was great! Came in a group of 5 and we split the bill. Ordered a bunch of tapas, my favorite dish here was the Michelle Ramen. It's hearty and tastes as if my entire soup was grilled. Would come here again, doesn't get 5 stars because although friendly, the staff is not great and very slow.

Ok I will say this if you want an Japanese experience this is a must! The service and the hospitality is great! Our server Saori Took us on a culinary experience. We handed her the menu back and asked her to choose and the sky was the limit. Out dishes arranged from the giant oyster, to pork bell, sushi, swordfish, noodles, desert, plum wine, beer, and more! This place is now one if my top ten favorite places of all time. The only draw back the place needs to be bigger! Enjoy if you are an Asian food

My favorite Asian restaurant. Period. I come here often always leave happy. Excellent authentic food, great service, fantastic prices. Some of my my favorites are shrimp with spicy mayo, beef yakiniku, and eggplant seafood miso with cheese. Anyone that would give this place a bad review has poor taste in food.

Very traditional Japanese style and the food is very fresh. We ordered jumbo oyster and sashimi combo. the oysters are little spicy, my friend didn't like it but I loved it. sashimi is so amazing! The fish was so fresh and yummy that I could feel it was melting in my mouth!

I was truly tired of those sushi buffet or thai-Japanese joints in the area, until I dined at Marumi. This joint is owned and run by Japanese people and menu is as authentic as Izakaya gets, I didn't see any compromise. Is it upscale? Nope, but Izakaya isn't upscale food, Izakaya is for commoners and blue color types. If you can't handle that mindset, go elsewhere. Menu is very extensive and lots of veggie dish using authentic ingredients. Also you might see liver item as well. I was so impressed I am going back and try other meals. It's located in a strip mall, pretty of parking. Sadly with driving I couldn't enjoy their extensive liquor items...

I don't usually give poor reviews, but if you are craving sushi, stay clear of this place! Decided to give this place a try with my husband since our usual place in Coral Spring is closed on Sunday. They were the only place open in our area after 10 PM on a Sunday, so we both figured, why not? First off, there is a $1 charge for fish eggs instead of sesame seeds. Second, the rolls are small and expensive. And third, the yellowtail w/ scallions was far from fresh, it was putrid! Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this establishment. It's too bad because the other food might be great, I am just too turned off to give it another try.

Not a bad place. Very busy every time I go so prepare to wait! I do feel like the quality of the food has gone down compared to when I first started going here though :(

Once in a while Yelp lets me down, and this is one of them. Crispy Bok Choy yelp.com/biz_photos/maru… Crispy, crunchy, covered in a thick layer of oily grease, and fully flavored with burnt/charred bitterness. Blaaaah. Uni with Quail egg yolk yelp.com/biz_photos/maru… They don't have this on the menu, but you can ask for it for $1 extra per uni. I love uni. Regular uni taste like ocean breeze, and higher quality uni has a natural sweetness without the fishiness. But this... no taste of the ocean, not fishy, not sweet, simply the blandest uni I've ever had. I'm not sure if this is even uni. Ankimo (Monkfish liver) yelp.com/biz_photos/maru… Ahh, the foie gras of the sea. it is described as "very rich and creamy, but yet at the same time very light and delicate, feeling silky and velvety to the palate." It is heaven if it's cooked right. However if you over cooked it, it becomes rubbery and flaky, which is what the chef at Marumi did. Such a waste. Soy Ramen yelp.com/biz_photos/maru… and Miso Ramen yelp.com/biz_photos/maru… First of all, why there is no seaweed in the Miso but in Soy is beyond me. But that's not a big deal when compared to the horrible broth they created. It's so effing bland it's almost just hot water with a tiny teaspoon of soy sauce and miso. There is no taste of pork and chicken stock and not even salty. This is the WORST Ramen I've ever had in my life. I know it's not comparable, but the 20 cents a pack Maruchan instant ramen at walmart taste better than this. If you want good Ramen nearby, go to Koume near Sawgrass or drive all the way to Shima at Hialeah. Maybe I'm just unlucky and got a bad chef that day, maybe I tried all the wrong stuff and everything else are 5*****, but this experience does not live up to the the 99 reviews and 4.5 stars on yelp.

Amazing fresh authentic Japanese food! Loved everything down to the sake selections. Their miso is prob the best I've had ever.

This is my absolute favorite place to get sushi! So, so good. Although I haven't had the privilege of visiting Japan (yet!), this is what I would imagine authentic Japanese food tastes like. Their standard menu is full of freshly prepared noodles, soups, salads, sushi, sashimi, and other entrees. They also have extensive daily specials (written in English and Japanese). The service here is great- helpful and attentive, but not pushy. I recommend ordering the green salad, a bowl of noodles, and a variety of sushi and sharing it among the table. I can't get enough of this place and hope you enjoy it a well!

By far...My favorite Japanese Izakaya restaurant in South Florida. This place offers a delectable amount of options that is written up on a dry erase board that is carried from table to table for your viewing pleasure. The food is well done! Tasty and succulent hot Japanese cuisine that is very enjoyable. The food is 100% authentic! The japanese curry is yummy and just enough to slather all over the rice and meat to cover every bit of rice on your plate. The noodle soups are plentiful with a variety of different items, nice and hot served with a large spoon for your slurping pleasure. The staff is superb...they will explain everything on the menu and some more. The service is prompt and is not slacking anything whatsoever. My allllll time fave Izakaya Restaurant!

Hands down the best Japanese/Sushi restaurant in Broward. Just don't come with it's super busy as the experience can be difficult. If you're in a group of 4 or more, do whole fish.

I will give them 2 stars because we got our food quickly and were seated immediately. I will take away 1 star because their sushi selection was lacking. I am taking away another star because when we were seated, the waitress brought over a huge whiteboard with the specials written on it, leaned it on another table and left. I will take away a 3rd star because the place looks a little dodgy.

I used to think this place was a solid 4 when they were a whole in the wall. However they are now no longer under the radar and tonight when I walked in for dinner they handed me a new menu which means increased prices! We got the pork belly appetizer (also have had the grilled squid many times) both are good but kinda small for $9. The sashimi appetizer for $18 was nothing special. Lastly their tuna cilantro ($7) is only 6 pieces and the spicy tuna roll has way more rice than tuna. All and all very average but for $50 for two with no liquor you can find much better sushi elsewhere.
