I am half Arabian so I know what good authentic arab food is supposed to taste like and this is it! Lamb was good, yogurt was good, kabobs were good, fettoush salad was very good and the garlic sauce and falafel was so yummy too! They even had authentic desserts available which a lot of places don't. Took a friend back with me and she got a sandwich for lunch and loved it too. Will definitley be visiting again!

Oh, I don't know about the grape leaves. I thought they were dry in fact most of the food was dry; especially the kafta and the spicy rice. Their lamb kabob was OK, but everything seemed overpriced for what was delivered. Take the Al Salam salad for example; there is no reason to charge $6.95 for a little tomato and cucumber and everything else was just a wee bit too expensive. Their baba ghanouge had an odd flavor and that is unforgivable. It complimented the slow service and the baklava with the overcooked (but not burned) bottom. This a bakery and they should do better. Many of my best friends are Lebonese so I am frequently eating in middle eastern restaurants or in their homes and this place is definately sub standard.

Excellent food. Healthy. Reasonable prices. We ate our traditional dishes: tabouli, fried kibbe, hummus with shawarma. All excellent. Also desserts, everything so fresh! To drink we had mint tea which was a perfect companion with the great plates.

I placed an order for pick up. I ordered 2 chicken shawarma and 1 falafel. The falafel was very soggy. It's supposed to be crispy. The sandwich was also soggy. The chicken shawarma was drowned in sauce and there was parsley in there. I have never eaten a chicken shawarma sandwich with parsley in it! Chicken did not taste like it came off the rotisserie they slowly cook shawarma on. It barely had flavor and tasted as though it was cooked on a stove. Big disappointment. Sandwiches were not cheap either. 12$ for 2 chicken shawarma, and 5$ for falafel.

I came here with a friend a few weeks ago. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Our waitress helped us with recommendations, and she even allowed us to have several types of rice served on the plate. We ended up ordering several items and split them between ourselves. (I wish I could tell you the names of the dishes, but suffice it to say, you'll be happy with their selection.)

I have been craving for some good Baba Ghanouge for awhile now and oh how I'm glad my friend found this place for me! So you know how that saying goes about how your eyes are hungrier than your tummy? Lol. I definitely ordered more than I could handle. All the yummy things all on one appetizer platter, how could I say no to that?! It came with baba ghanouge, musakkah, hummus, falafel, grape leaves, kibbeh, and taboli. All very good. I was so full after the appetizer, which was barely half way gone, that I barely touched my entree! I ordered the meat shawerma platter with their spicy rice. From the little I ate, it was really good too. Can't wait to have it later as my leftovers. And of course, my friend, that little devil tempted me with sweets! -_- I really do need to say no to my sweettooth. We got 2 types of baklava, which were both very good. I haven't had a good baklava in a long time. I'm not a big fan when they drench it in simple syrup, so this place does a good job not doing that. The server was really nice and gave us complimentary fingers too. Those were delicious! Definitely we'll get those next time too! The desserts are mini so it gives you a chance to try multiple items without feeling too guilty. =) Only reason why it's missing a star is because there was a little critter that crawled on our table during our meal. Not so appetizing. Sucks that Florida has a roach problem. I hate/despise/loathe roaches! =(

Who knew this restaurant would be the best place we've eaten Middle Eastern food since we moved to Florida decades ago? We took a chance tonight and it turned out to really pay off! From the pickled veggies served as soon as we were seated to the homemade dishes, to the array of authentic desserts we were so glad we came. The restaurant is very clean; it has beautiful chandeliers, arched doorways, enjoyable Arabic music and comfortable booth benches/chairs. The servers were very hospitable and made us feel welcome. The male server even congratulated us on ordering the dishes he usually recommends to those who are unsure about what to get. We ordered the mixed appetizer: humus ( a dip of chickpea and sesame seed paste with spices), baba ganouj ( a smoked eggplant dip), kibbeh (ground meat and pine nuts in a fried wheat shell - LOVED THIS), falafel (ground chickpeas and spices fried to create a shell with soft filling), musakkah (cold eggplant, tomato and onion blend - similar to caponata), and taboli ( a wheat and parsley mix). We substituted the 2 stuffed grape leaves that come with the platter for more falafel. It was served with fluffy pita - the store next door has a wood burning oven where a guy is actually making the pitas! OMG - I haven't enjoyed this food so much since I left NY. I can't tell you how on point each item was. I am SO glad we have leftovers! We ordered the mixed grill of kababs: one stick of grilled dark meat chicken (the best), chicken kafta, beef kafta, and beef pieces. It came with "spicy rice" (not spicy). While each meat was tasty the beef was dry - likely because it's Halal so it has no sign of blood (no medium rare meat here!). ACTUALLY on our second visit we enjoyed medium rare lamb chops so I stand corrected! We ordered 2 more dishes to have for lunch tomorrow but asked that it be served so we could taste it: Arrosa lamb (ground lamb, onion, and parsley made into a paste and cooked inside of a pita bread and garnished with raw onion slices and summac spice) and shawerma (lamb slices with tomato, lettuce, and sauce wrapped inside a pita bread and cut into 2 pieces). Each was delicious, especially the Arrosa - good thing cuz that's my lunch for tomorrow! We enjoyed - and I mean REALLY enjoyed the hot mint tea throughout the meal. I went to the store next to the restaurant after our meal and bought some loose tea that was served in the restaurant so we can continue to enjoy the tea at home! We took dessert to go - an assortment of walnuts, almonds, and pistachios nestled in phylo dough with honey; semolina cakes saturated with sweet syrup; sweet cheese inside of phylo dough crescents, etc. It'll go well with the tea...for a few days! They all looked so good it was hard to stop ordering! This was a wonderful experience because the people were great, the food was just delicious, and we felt like we got to enjoy Middle Eastern culture both in the restaurant and store. We'll be back (and I'll use my check-in free appetizer next time!)

Looooove this place! The food, exquisite. The service, warm and friendly. And the ambiance...wow, wow, woooooooow! It's been three years since I've been here and they have totally transformed the interior. This place is truly a hidden gem. Recommendations: Lentil Soup Humos with Lamb Shawerma Spicy Rice Lamb Shawerma Sandwich Chicken Shawerma Platter And you cannot leave without having some house tea and Baklava, of course. If you are looking for phenomenal food, you MUST come to Al Salam! It's a bit hidden, but when you pass through the doors, you will be transported to the Middle East.

I have recently discovered Al Salam, this whole time just minutes away from my office! What a shame I didn't know about it earlier because I have been missing out. Al Salam is well hidden in a dreary strip mall off Sunrise Blvd, just east of University Drive, its tucked inside the side corner of the Plantation Crossroad Plaza which is the strip mall behind the CVS Pharmacy on University. I don't think you can actually see the restaurant if you drive by, unless you know it's there you can easily miss some of the best Mediterranean food in the area. I was impressed the minute I set foot inside, I did not expect the beautiful decor and gorgeous crystal chandeliers adorning the dining room which has a combinations of booths and also dining tables, the restaurant is very clean and newly remodeled, I don't know what it looked like before, but all I can say is that they did an amazing job, never would I have imagined that this little hidden restaurant looked so pretty on the inside. The hostess is very friendly and accommodating, and service is equally friendly and efficient. As soon as we were sat we were served a small dish of picked veggies consisting of spiced celery, carrots and turnips, they were very good. This latest visit I took advantage of the Free Appetizer for my Yelp Check-in, the offerings were Hummus, Falafel and Baba ganoush, we opted for the Baba ganoush which was promptly served with warm pita bread, the Baba ganoush was outstanding and may have been some of the best Baba ganoush I have come across, once we placed our lunch orders a large salad with vinaigrette dressing was served for our table to share, the salad was very fresh and had just the right balance of dressing. I opted for #35 - The char-grilled chicken thigh meat served with spicy rice served with a garlic sauce, it was just as delicious as last time, juicy fresh chicken and a delicious generous side of spiced rice, it's not spicy as in hot, its just rice with spices and it is delicious. My friends were equally impressed with their food, one was the chicken Shawerma (Boneless chicken marinated with special spices, slowly roasted and thinly sliced) and the other was the Meat Shawerma (Marinated lamb & beef with special spices, slowly roasted & thinly sliced served with spicy rice). All platters are served with a choice of yellow rice, spicy rice or french. One very important thing to note which I believe is why the food is so delicious is that they only use fresh ingredients, they don't use frozen meats, only use fresh veggies, and their food is prepared with out any preservatives or additives, it just tastes homemade and fresh, which makes the pricing even more outstanding because this amazing meal was very reasonably priced. Service was very attentive, checked in on us several times, presentation of the food is excellent, not only is the food is delicious but the way it is served is presented is also very nice, and the food came out very fast which is great for a fast work lunch. The restaurant is so nice inside I wish it was closer to my house because it would make a lovely date place at night. There is a large display case to the back of the restaurant hosting an amazing array of desserts, I haven't tried them yet and believe me it has taken a lot of restraint because they do look delicious, Baklava and many other middle eastern desserts are beautifully displayed in small towers and cut into small serving sizes that look extremely appetizing. I highly recommend Al Salam, warm friendly service, great value and wonderful food, I look forward to trying other items on the menu.

It's okay. I loved it way better before the renovation. I used to go their a lot and it was always packed, the service used to be great and the food used to be stellar. It's not bad it's just okay. I heard they all left and went to al natur which I ll check our if I am ever going to sawgrass mall

We had some pretty fabulous take-out from Al Salam, which styles itself as a pan-Arabic restaurant. The shwarma was great as were the kofte, both accompanied by substantial salads with pickled vegetables. I also ordered hummus, which was as good as any I've ever had. A lot of people appear to come in here for the sweets. They have a Lebanese-style sweets counter with all the greatest hits of Arabic pastry. The staff were really friendly and helpful. They double-checked my order before I went out the door.

Tricky to get to this plaza but so worth finding it. This place is a gem, amazing food, I tried all the meats already and most of their sandwiches, all good...the shish kabobs are huge, literally everything here is made in large portions. The service is prompt and friendly. You see a lot of middle easterns eating here or simply having a chat with tea outside. Highly recommend.

Every time I'm in the area I have to pick up lunch from here! They have the most aunthentic middle eastern food I've ever tried. I LOVE the falafel! Best ever! Also the fattoush and tabolie salads are yummy and made with the freshest ingredients. My favorite is the shush kabobs sandwich. I've never eaten inside but the restaurant decor is very pretty and seems to be good for large parties as well.

Phenomenal food! I don't know where to begin. If you love Persian food, you'll love this place. They use really high quality meats, and their food, specifically the lamb has no smell. Which is really good. They have a great assortment of kabobs, and their prices are more than fair, especially for the family platter they have which feeds 8 ppl for $67! I took 25 people here, they all loved it!

We had this at a friends house as takeout and it was all delicious. The salad and dressing was flavorful and fresh. The lamb was delicious, tender, and savory. Rice was very well done too. There were a few other dishes we had which were all great. We were impressed and look forward to dining at the restaurant.

12/31/14 We didn't even get pass placing an order over the phone and experienced rude customer service. Wife called to order some Halal food for mother-in-law, and was so turned off by rude customer service of gentleman who answered the phone. So disappointed because we heard good things about this place.. . maybe we will try them again in the future to give them the chance to earn our business again, but I doubt it will be anytime soon.

Average service is easily overlooked for the excellent food. The kabob platter, appetizer platter, and falafel sandwich were all delicious and well-prepared. The space is more conducive to parties of 5+, but it's still great for a weeknight meal or conversation. Obviously you can't eat dinner without dessert, and thankfully, they have otherworldly tea and baklava.

We came here after several hours of shopping at the Sawgrass Mall. We love Middle Eastern food and this place was no exception. The service was excellent, as was the food. Before placing our order, complimentary pita, served warm, and picked vegetables were served. We used the Yelp offer on my phone to score a free appetizer, and we chose the hummus. It was smooth, freshly made and delicious. The portion was huge and we weren't able to finish it, despite using up the large amount of pita and putting it on parts of our main dishes as well. For mains we ordered the shwarma platter with spicy rice and the chicken shwarma platter with yellow rice. The shwarma came with fresh Arabic salad, expertly seasoned rice and tahini. The chicken shwarma came with a tasty garlic sauce and salad as well; the yellow rice was very light and tasty. Both meats were absolutely on point in terms of flavor. We struggled to finish the huge portions and wound up taking a large box home. There are beautiful homemade desserts behind a display case toward the back of the restaurant but we passed because we were too full. Looking forward to coming back and sampling some other dishes.

I call to order for pick up When I tell my order they tell me I have to give them my card through the phone what ? What business does that ? The ones who want to steal credit card information Then I tell them I would like to pay with cash and the guy on the phone says when I arrive there and pay I have to wait till they make my food . What was the point of me calling to pickup I'm in a hurry Glad I went somewhere else This people are not going to get my business again Btw I never write bad about anywhere but this is unacceptable

One, if not the best middle eastern restaurants in the area. We love to come here, the food is awesome, the sevice is amazing, very helpful and friendly! It doesn't matter which way you go, you always win. Try the lentil soup! To die for! Don't forget the Al Salam mixed appetizer, and a sweet treat to finish your meal.

Really, really good food here. The shwarma and hummus plates are excellent. I also enjoyed the hot tea, and if it weren't so late at night I would have ordered a Turkish coffee! Our server was also so sweet and attentive, even though she was the only one working and there were plenty of other people there. Can't wait to go back!

What a gem! Makes me wish I lived in Plantation now, because I'd be coming here every week. Al Salam was recommended to me by a Palestinian friend who is a waiter. He said the drive was long but I would not regret it, so I decided to take him up on his suggestion. The place was easy to miss and I was wondering if my GPS was acting up, but then luckily I found the place hidden in a strip mall and pulled right in. The hostess and waiters were very friendly, which made a great impression. To start out, everyone is offered some pickled vegetables and olives. I loved them and had the waiters bring me seconds. That is a nice compliment, as a lot of Middle Eastern places won't give you anything at all, like Marhaba. I stuck with a safe choice -- the grape leaves. These were yummy. My triple combo, which included lamb, chicken and beef, was flavorful and filling. The only reason I did not give Al Salam 5 stars is the dessert. I ordered the knafeh, but it was so hard I could not break the cheese away, even though I kept running my fork back and forth in a sawing motion. A knife was not even provided, so I was stuck using my fingers to tear pieces off. Every time I have had knafeh elsewhere, it has been warm and tender, so this was a disappointment.. Their bathroom is awesome. Nice decor, and best of all? The toilets have a water spray and air, sort of like a bidet with a fan as well. Sweet! I did not use it because I was worried it might not dry enough and there was no towel to use as a backup, but someone more adventurous may decide to give it a try. I just thought that was quite interesting, considering someone here said the bathrooms are disgusting. I have never seen these toilets in an establishment, only in private residences, so I thought that was noteworthy. All in all, the prices are very affordable, at least compared to Miami, but I suggest trying another dessert than the knafeh, or skipping dessert altogether.

So came here after the new renovations being done. Ordered a few items to go as we were sitting at the hookah lounge at the end of the shopping strip. To my Surprise they didn't have the item I ordered then after finally deciding something else I figured it would be worth ordering a meal. Meal comes with French fries a drink and your choice of entree. I wanted to go the healthy way and not get French fries and get soup instead and asked to pay the additional price difference they said no. Asked to get water instead of a carbonated drink they said no? Like seriously? Regardless, pretty place and nice atmosphere good food as well- only if they have it.

If you like falafel, Kibe, humus, tabule, this is a great place. There is a sampler plate that has all these delicious meals. Also, the Mediterranean desserts are fresh and excellent. I've been here many times and the food is always fresh and good.

Nice atmosphere, food taste good. Good portions but a little expensive. Not clean what's so ever. There was flies flying all over my food. The seats, tables, walls, floor and windows were really dirty. My to go box had eyebrows laying around in it. My chicken had hair in it. Don't really recommend.

I came here after buying hookah supplies from their supermarket next door and was satisfied. I wasn't blown away but definitely satisfied enough to come back. Service was satisfactory, food was good and prices were decent. The set up was nice but nothing spectacular. I had the lamb roasted with onions and peppers sealed in a crispy bread. The portion was smaller than I expected but still left me happy. The food came out fairly quick. Overally, quick and good, will probably return and try another dish but I wasn't blown away. I keep using this word, but it sums up the experience perfectly for me: satisfactory.

I didn't feel like cooking so my boyfriend decided to pick up food. I had bookmarked Al Salam based on the good reviews, large menu, and proximity to my house. We decided to order a few things and share. I called and the man who answered seemed flustered by my call. I told him I wanted to place a takeout order. He asked what I wanted and I first asked for Spanokapita. He quickly responded that they did not have that and they've never had it. I told him I looked up the menu online and he said it wasn't right. I then asked for an order of Musakkah and they had that. Next, I asked for the Chicken Shawerma. He asked if I wanted the platter or the sandwich. I asked for the platter. I also ordered the lentils with rice, per another Yelper's recommendation. The man repeated the order and I asked if it included pita and he pointedly said, "of course" and I could feel his eyes roll through the phone. The conversation was abrasive but I shrugged and chalked it up to a cultural difference. Before we hung up, he said he needed a deposit. I told him we lived 5 minutes away and we were on our way to pick it up now and paying cash. He seemed confused and I was annoyed at this point. I asked my boyfriend to get a menu while he was there. He brought home the food and we enjoyed the Musakkah with the pita first. Then I opened the container with the chicken platter, only to find we got the sandwich instead. It came with a nice sized garden salad that was lightly dressed. We took the chicken off the sandwich and paired it with the nice serving of the lentils with rice. We topped it with a chili cream sauce and tziki. The chicken was extremely tender and I would have preferred the platter I ordered because I think it would have had more chicken than just the sandwich. The service was less than desirable. The food was good- not the best but worth another try. Perhaps eating in is the key... P.s. Spanokapita is on their printed menu as well so I'm not sure if I was given misinformation :-(

Food is great but depends on your server:.. Our second server was amazing and would check on us but our first server abandons us! Also I'm assuming the don't have tap water? The only offered us bottled... Were we on a boil water alert? We had the hummus and it was good but the pitas were dry! Then we had the mixed grill and it was delish! The rice and garlic sauce are a 10! the kafta wasn't too flavorful but the grill meat had wonderful flavor! grilled chicken is a must!

As an Ohio transplant, dinning prices seem to be outrageous in South Florida. But one food that is traditionally expensive in Ohio is Middle Eastern food, understandably so. If you grew up with this food in your family, you've probably seen mom or grandma killing herself over a pile of grape leaves. Because when you have to prepare food for dozens of Lebanese relatives, it's like cooking for a restaurant. So, it was a pleasant surprise that I was able to get carry-out for two at Al Salam for about $35. A small feast We ordered the Al Salam Mixed Appetizers (humos, baba ghanouge, mousakka, 2 falafel, 2 baked kibbeh, 2 grape leaves), labneh, 3 kafta kebabs, 3 baklava, pita bread. Everything was great! Middle Eastern food at this price is usually days old and soggy. Very impressive. I need to try the mujaddara and fattoush when I go back. Restaurants almost never make good mujaddara, except for Nate's Deli in Cleveland. Perhaps another star if they're savvy enough to use more lentils than rice.

You can immediately tell it's a family establishment--which scores points for me. But everything was pretty expensive (even for Plantation) and didn't seem like great value. Service was meh and the desserts were even more expensive than the lunch menu ($2.50 for one teensy piece of baklava?). Move along, it's nothing you haven't seen before.

Won't be back. Everything started off great upon entering. Very nice young lady helped me find the place via phone as it is hidden behind the CVS. I wasn't used to the appetizer they leave at the table (different pickled veggies) it was very salty to me. The first downfall is when they bring razor thin pita bread that is still in the little bag I guess it gets delivered in. Not warmed up, crisped up, nothing just room temp. Hummus very thick and chalky, Baba Ganoush no better. Even the kibbeh balls they ruined with cinnamon and nutmeg the kind of spices my Grandmother never used. But I get it just because I don't like it doesn't mean others will. Good for them. But don't cop an attitude when I don't want to carry the leftovers home. Would they have liked it better that I said to them I thought your food sucked? For one bit of good news the place is beautiful-great renovation.

Good food. Specially the chicken kabobs. White lentil soup with lemon was very good. The kibes are delish. Theres a sampler platter that has babaganoush, hummus, eggplant, falafels, kibes and stuffed grape leafs. Very recommendable if you want a little but of everything. Its a lot of food. And the pita bread is so fresh and warm. A down side is that they do not have almond rice or raw kibe. This restaurant is somewhat hidden and the outside look of the location might be deceiving.

Small place with delicious food. The pita we got with the complimentary pickled vegetables was light, soft and delicious..I could eat 3 baskets of it if no one's watching. The hummus and baba ghanoush were delicious.... I ordered a falafel sandwich as I am a sucker for falafel. It is more of a wrap than a sandwich as usually the falafel is put in a pita pocket, but this came in a roll. The falafel was light, crunchy, moist and perfectly seasoned. The wrap again..the pita was light and not thick and rubbery like most places.... They have a glass cabinet with desserts which look delicious.... I would definitely recommend this place....The owner and the staff were very attentive and polite...LOVE THIS PLACE....

Needless to say my dad's cheap. I've already made that point a couple of times in previous reviews. But the fact he makes us drive up here at least once every couple of months and I am actually excited to go...THAT deserves recognition. We usually order a family-style mix grill combo, which is more than enough for about 8 people. I'm serious. Lamb kabob, skewers, chicken... served on-top of spicy rice. Order this, some fresh pitas, falafels, humus, tabouleh, and baba ganoush and you're all set for a fantastic, relatively inexpensive night out with friends and family. Seriously one of the best middle eastern places around. The deserts are great too, home made. We initially stumbled upon this place because my dad is the type of person who likes to look at things he can't buy, so he went house hunting. In that, he spoke with the seller and he showed my dad five or six more of his houses. Hoping to sign a deal, the seller took my dad (along with both their and our entire families) to Al Salam, he even insisted on paying the bill. Needless to say once he realized my father was not going to buy a house, he stopped talking to him. I suppose the lesson here is... deceive people and good food will come? Oh well. Something that bothers me about this place are the TVs. I know many families don't have access to foreign television in their homes, but I just don't like TVs in restaurants. The service can be a bit slow too, but they are usually very nice. There is also a small store next-door with fantastic teas and groceries.

I used to work across the street from Motorola..so I would eat here all the time. Mixed grill for sure! Humus with sharawama...mmm'mmm. The service is definitely slow but I didn't mind since I would usually watch a big screen TV of lebanese music videos ;) I always felt this place had a family and community feel, which was nice. If you are looking for good arab food, come here!

Decided to stop in here to try out their falafel. It was very fluffy, hot, and dense enough to have real substance. I personally thought the hummus was decent because I like the authentic middle eastern taste rather than kosher. Very friendly service.

Here's the low down on this place. If you have a craving for Middle Eastern food and "can" handle terrible service this is your place. When I walked there were 3 or 4 employees visible but not many customers, perhaps 3 people eating at that time. After a few minutes I had to wave a waiter to take my order. The pita was chewy and tough. I asked a waitress (my waiter was MIA) to replace which she did immediately. The replacement was slightly better. I was amazed how much Hummus you get on the small appetizer. The Kibbeh and the Shawarma lamb were very good. The waiter made a great effort to ignore me, as my empty glass of water (no ice tea here) hanged on the edge of the table where I knew he could see it. I even slurped a bit to sound the empty glass alarm to no avail. Had to wave the waitress for some water. The highlight was the smile I received when he brought the bill. Will probably come back to satisfy a craving.

i used to be a regular here before the remodeling, but after that the prices went up 40% and the portions are smaller than before... the restaurant comes from a 5 start service, food and convenience, to a 3 star nice decorated restaurant. sorry. most of their ethnic customers are not happy with the new prices and small portions, going somewhere else.

I am from Detroit, I have had Dearborn near me my entire life and excellent Lebanese food all my life! I moved here 5 years ago and have been looking for a good restaurant ever since! Everything was as good as any of the restaurants I have been to there! Well deserving of 5 stars! Genuine lebanese food!

Literally BEHIND this corner in Plantation Cross Road Plaza, along Sunrise Blvd near University Dr, you'll find a hidden Middle Eastern enclave. You'll find a hookah bar, restaurants, market, traveling agencies and other services. The food at Al Salam was alright. The makdoss (stuffed baby eggplant with walnuts, red pepper and garlic for $4.99) was good. Also, the lamb shawarma was good, but if I had to choose between their fantastic chicken kabob ($8.99) and the lamb shawarma ($4.99), then let me just say "Chick-Fil-A, lamb go bye bye!" However, be aware that the sides were largely mediocre. The simpleton salad that came with the platter was not noteworthy. The tabbouleh ($4.99) was okay, and definitely better than the simpleton salad, but it was not the best I've had in South Florida. This place is popular and packed, despite the fact that it is out of sight from the streets should you be looking for this place by car. The service was inconsistent. Other waiters and waitresses around the restaurant seemed to be prompt, but I was not lucky. My guy was absolutely horrible in checking the table after the food had been served. I had to flag him down at least 3 times to refill my water, and the check did not come until 2 hours after the start of the meal. I was just lucky I had a companion that was interesting enough to chat with throughout all this time! The market itself was well stocked and had several things. However, there are better Middle Eastern markets to go to. Restaurant hours: 11 am - 10 pm Market: 9 am - 10 pm

Al Salam, the great almost. The food at Al Salam is hit or miss. The Shawarma and Falafel never disappoint. The fool (beans with garlic and lemon) were surprisingly spicy, so I couldn't eat it. I wish I would have known that from the description on the menu. The fatoush (salad) was terrible, as was the tabouli. The restaurant itself is a bit bare, but has Arabic music television playing on the TVs. The service is good, but not great. I usually have to flag down my waiter if I want beverage refills. Prices can't be beat. Al Salam is a good place for lunch or a casual meal. Stick with the specialties and you will be happy. There is also a small market attached.

i came here for lunch with friends. everything is halal, so i was excited to have the chance to be able to order anything. i ended up getting a chicken wrap. the chicken was chargrilled and there was a yummy garlic sauce. however service was bad and my water wasn't refilled at all.

Truly one of the best halal eatary around in Plantation. We've been back numerous times and were never once disappointed, not with the food at least. The place is usually packed on the weekends with families and it can get a tad noisy if you're looking forward to having dinner in peace, not great date restaurant I'd say but if food is all that matters, then go for it. My ultimate favourite is the chicken shawarma or the mix grill combo while hubby swears by the grilled chicken (check the sauce they slather on that chicken out, truly out of this world) each time we dine here. For sides, stick with their spiced rice offered with the meal,it makes an ultimate combination with whatever they offer on their menu. Do be warned however that parking is scarce especially on the weekends so do make your reservations in order not to be disappoined.

I went to the restaurant with some colleagues when in town and we were looking for something different. The food was really good, portions were large, and the service was excellent. It's also family-friendly and if my kids were with me I wouldn't hesitate to bring them. It was the owners birthday and we were even invited to share in the cake!

The best garlic sauce in town! I use to live in Michigan where there is a ton of good Arabic restaurants so when I moved down here the hunt was on. This is the only Arabic restaurant that I go to=)

I read the reviews before we went there tonight, and going with my really picky family I was a bit scared, since it seems every one agrees the food is great but the service wasn't. It took a little bit to find it, since they're next to Dunkin Donuts right now. I have to tell you, the food was excellent, we had a big variety of appetizers and the big family dinner mixed platter and one thing was better than the other. Also the service was great, maybe they've listened to all of you. I couldn't recommend this place more highly for this type of food.

My husband and I go to this restaurant a lot. We have always been happy with the food but have always hated the service. They are so slow and don't really ever make you feel like they are happy you are there. However, the food has always been great so we always go back for more punishment..LOL. Nonetheless, we decided to order some take out tonight and ordered a hummus with shawarma meat and an Al Salam Mixed grill. Normally these dishes are great. Today, however, they were very dry and not flavorful. Everything was dry. Even the spicy rice. The shawarma meat was dry and lacked a lot of flavor. The lamb was ok in the mixed grill but the chicken was so dry. The shish kabob wasnt much better. I came to know recently that the owners had split but I thought the food would still be the same. Looks like he may have taken the chefs with him as well. I MAY give this place another chance but this restaurant may have seen the last of us. Lets hope it was just an off day and not the norm going forward.

Wow, is all I can say about this place. And totally halal! We had a large group of 12-14 or so people and came here during a very busy Friday. The wait was a little longer than I would have liked but wow was the food amazing. Totally worth the 45 min drive up from miami. Excellently skewered meat, deliciously flavored and succulent in every bite. Definitely will be coming back!

Coming from Detroit- where we have the largest Arabic population, this place was pretty damn close!! The Hummus was out of this world! Amazing!! We had fatoosh salads which was also great! My hubby had the chicken tawook and I had the lamb- it was cooked to perfection! Great place!! Give it a try!

Garlic sauce and hummus are on point, ordered the chicken schwarma and it was really good. Only down side but could def be the day was the rice, it was a little hard. As for my boo, I convinced him to try this type of food for the first time and he absolutely loved it. I would give this place another go around!

Been coming to this restaurant since 2006. Tasty food at good prices. So glad they redesigned the interior, where it feels more cozy and updated, as opposed to wide open space and pretty noisy when crowded (prior to the remodel). Delicious appetizers, food, meats and desserts. Hummus, falafel, spanakopita, kibbeh, shawarma, rice dishes, arossa...Turkish coffee, baklava...you name it, it's yummy! Only little downside is sometimes it gets rather busy and you have to wait a while to get your check. My fave Middle Eastern restaurant though!

This place is all over the place. 1. Food: cucumber salad is awesome, refreshing. Mixed appetizer is great, the eggplant is delicious but I can taste the canned tomato sauce. Lamb shank: bland, no flavor, seasoning, marinade whatsoever, and it took a long time to come out, ya know: at least throw some rosemary on it, it's not difficult. Portions are very good and prices dirt cheap. They give you spicy olives and bread to star, which is nice. Their yogurt drink is from a can, ya know? Make it from scratch! It's not difficult! Plus, I tasted some MSG. 3 stars 2. Service: slow, the waiter had issues understanding that I wanted to substitute rice for fries, I explained myself 3 times like it was a foreign idea. 2 stars 3. The bathrooms are disgusting! I am sure it's not up to health or building code, they store kitchen supplies in it! Yuk! I don't even want to see the kitchen! 0 stars. It was disappointing, they could do so much better! I love middle eastern food and I am sure there are plenty of better options in the area, which I will definitely try.

This place is awesome! I come here all the time for authentic middle eastern food. The service is always great, friendly & welcoming. I also like that you never feel rushed should you want to sit and chat awhile with your guests. The hummus is a must, as is the falafeI. I usually order the lamb kafta, chicken schwarma or mixed grill. Don't forget to save room for desserts! I usually order a couple different ones for the table each time. Great for lunch or dinner. Highly recommend! Been going there for over 5yrs.

Try the mixed grill, It's awesome! Their shawarma is also very good. Don't sit too close to the back of the restaurant, that's where they display all the desserts and will force you into a uncontrollable fit of gluttony. The owner is also too nice and forces you to sample them and then..... DIABETES!

We would echo the comments of the other review. Only had coffee and appetizer but had to stay for dessert. Everything was noticeably fresh. Will return for dinner absolutely. Waitress was also fantastic.

Hit & Miss I eat there a few times and I'm not going back, at first the food quality and service were good but went downhill for some reason. Last time the food was cold and dry. The service was just to get by, So I said good bye.

Hidden in a dinky plaza lies Al Salam, it a find for anyone lucky enough to stumble upon this place. For my cousins and I, it has become a biweekly tradition to grab a 6 pack, go get our hair cut at Femme Fatale ( yelp.com/biz/femme-fatal… ) and order out some food. With a little help from my stylish friends at Femme, Al Salam was the winner. On this night, we were the winners for choosing them. We got the hummus and pita. Yes, I know very basic middle eastern food, but damn was it tasty. The catch is wait there is no catch. The serving is ginormous and for incredibly cheap ($6.99). It cannot be beat. We destroyed the pita and was still left with more hummus, so we decided to return to ask for more. They gladly obliged, no questions asked. This was my second time here and both times the food and service have been impeccable. Al Salam, you stole a little piece of my heart.

What a neat little place with authentic Middle Eastern Cuisine and great service. The combination platter could easily feed 4 with very large apetites and the Hummus was to die for. Open you eyes and take in the aromas and look around you and for a fleeting moment you might think you are sitting in Dubai! the food was very resaonably priced wtih large servings! ..... Desserts were Deelicious with amazing Bacclava!

Don't believe anyone who says that the food here is less than terrific. if you have lived in the Middle East you know immediately that the food here is the real thing. The customers are mostly Arabs, israelis and Indians who worked in the Gulf states. Of course the food is halal (kosher, for all practical purposes). What are the down sides? As in most authentic restaurants, there is not very much explanation of the food. if you need explanation, ask for it. It may not be volunteered. Some dishes may seem strange to conservative eaters, but really Middle Eastern food is not very spicy etc. This is a really good restaurant and it deserves more patrons. If it is so good, where is it? Well, that is a good question because the whole strip mall at the corner of Sunrise and University (north east corner) is being re-modeled, and Al Salam has moved temporarily from its usual location next to the halal grocery store to next to the Duncan Donuts and the Persian restaurant (also a terrific restaurant), all in the same general strip mall. This section of the mall is parallel to Sunrise. They say they will move back to their original location as soon as it is remodeled.

You have to try the lentils with rice, the falafels (the best I've had in this area) and the hummus. You feel like you stepped into the Middle East. There is a cool market next door too for authentic items.
