I am very surprised at the rating this place has. My family has been coming here for years, probably almost a decade. It is our favorite hibachi restaurant in town and the sushi is great also. The service is always great, we have never had a bad experience. They do have different chefs from time to time, but hibachi jokes are always the same, so that part gets old but the food is delicious! It's a family ritual to come here so we LOVE it! You will not go home hungry, we always have to take to-go boxes.

Our kids love the food. Wish they had military discount, like sister restaurant. Went there for daughters birthday. They ask everyone if they are celebrating anything special. We said we were visiting for daughters birthday and at end of dinner, they take a picture and bring a beautiful boat of fruit. The kicker is they charge you $8 or $9 for this without your permission first!!

I have watched this place go downhill slowly over the past 10 years. This restaurant used to maintain a standard other hibachi restaurants in the area could not touch but now they are just one of the many low quality Japanese style restaurants making dinners with poor quality ingredients and high prices. The staff is a little too comfortable and the food is nothing to right home about. Maybe it's the area of town they are located in that doesn't demand high quality cuisine but I would think if it were me I would take a much higher pride in what I am serving my customers.

My family and I had dinner here last night 9.6.15. The food was great and the Chef that prepared the meal was comical and entertaining. The service was ok. What we didn't care for was the wait time. We were seated a party of six adults & a child. We had eaten or soup &salad when two other people were brought over to our table. The Chef didn't arrive until after this couple had appetizers, soup & salad. The right thing to do would have been to seat them at another table and not make us wait.

Really awful all around. I had never been here and went with some friends who wanted to go. Two of us got hibachi and we all got sushi. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks ordered and another five for them to come out. I asked if the cucumber salad had ginger dressing on it and the server said I did. When I got it, it was a overly sweet vinegar dressing on a few limp cucumbers and fake crab strips. Not good. The miso was super salty. They then brought out all four sushi rolls on one plate, so we each had to pick ours up and transfer it. My sushi was terrible. I got the jazz roll: shrimp and avocado inside with spicy tuna and masago on top. The tuna was obviously frozen before. It was so mushy and the color wasn't right. It was so mushy that I had to scrape it off my roll instead of just picking it off. The entire roll had barely any taste. I had to load it with ginger and soy sauce, which I normally don't do. They charged me for adding cucumber so my one roll was $15. I paid with a $20 and the server brought back a $5 (not ones) so I just left the $5. So $20 for a supremely shitty roll of sushi. Service and food extremely lacking. Such a disappointment and I will never go back.

Mr. Adam (owner) more interested in womanizing. Insulting having chef squirt water from nude dolls penis at guests thinking that is funny or tossing food with guests trying to catch food in their open mouths. Hope someone know how to do heimlic. Not sure if all his staff are legal. But he sure loves his green Jaguar.

I don't see why this place has a low rating. The wait staff was great and the sushi was amazing.

I've only ever had sushi here, which is not bad at all. The chefs seem very reliant on sauce, though, which is disappointing. The rolls are huuuuuuge, and one gets very proficient in dismantling them so that they fit in one's mouth. The rice is good, though the wasabi is practically tasteless. The decor is very *un* cheesy, and the art is pretty tongue-in-cheek. Service is hit and miss; one day things will be amazing, the next day, it takes entirely too long. Good value for the money, but if you require excellent service, you might want to go somewhere else.

It's always a hit and miss with Tokyo but this last time was the absolute worse experience yet! My boyfriend and I decided to have a date night at Tokyo this past Sunday. We arrived at about 7 and it wasn't very busy at all and were seated right away. We came in right behind a big group and were seated at the same grill as them, which I wouldn't have minded, but the group filled up every chair around the grill and the waiter stuck us at the two chairs right in between the two grills. We couldn't even see the grill from where we sat! If we are going to get hibachi, let alone PAY for hibachi, at least let us enjoy "the show"!! Also, by the time we were sat the group had already gotten their drinks and the waitress was taking their dinner order. We didn't even have time to look at the menu before she took our order. We ordered an appetizer of pot stickers, my boyfriend ordered hibachi and I ordered a roll of sushi. Really the only reason we go to Tokyo is because I am in love with one of their sushi rolls. About 10 minutes after ordering the hibachi chef, who couldn't be much older than 20, came out. Of course during the whole "show" all we saw was his back and couldn't hear a word he was saying, if he was even talking at all. His skills weren't very good from what I could see. The chef was half way done cooking our food and the waitress comes by and my boyfriend finally asks her "I was wondering when our appetizer and sushi would be out" well before he could even finish getting that out she interrupts him with a snotty "it should be up soon" and walks away. She comes back with my sushi and says "this what y'all were looking for?" My boyfriend even made the comment that it looked like they had jipped me a few pieces from the last time we went (2 weeks ago) and they had. We usually share the sushi but he didn't want to eat any this time since that was my "meal" and they had jipped me so many pieces. By this time our food was almost done being cooked by the chef and the waitress never came back by with our appetizer. I even made a comment "guess we're not getting it". The waitress never came back by until we were both done with our meal and my boyfriend told her she could just take the appetizer off our check. She replied with "what appetizer?" Oh man, I could see the fire in my boyfriends eyes. They usually very calm man was now at his breaking point with this horrible service we were experiencing. "The pot stickers we ordered" he replied and then the light bulb finally went off in her brain, "ooooh, I forgot to put those in" she says back. Seriously?? How!? We saw you clearly write it down at the same time you took our order!! I think she could clearly see we were fed up so she got our ticket right away, whispered a few sorries and ran off. My boyfriend even made the comment "Worst Tokyo experience of my life" as we walked out the door. That one roll of sushi I am so in love with is not enough to make up for that night. We won't be back.

Service is definitely lacking. Plenty of staff, but very few w initiative to take care of the customer. Management is clueless of unanswered customer needs / expectations. I guess it makes a good tax write off for the owners. This place used to be packed out! Now you can see the tumbleweeds and hear the spaghetti western music. If you're not going to take care of business, just close it down.

Went to Toyko a few weeks back for a sushi lunch combo and it was awesome. The food was great, the service was great, and I had no complaints. Also, we were given large portions for the price. Overall awesome experience. Tonight, a few weeks later, my family went for Japanese Steakhouse. Great service, ridiculously small portions for the price. No onion volcano -10 Small portions -10 Taste - TOO MUCH SALT ADDED. Like watching them prepare a salt-lick sandwich. Makes one wonder their motives..... Serving sizes- small. No need for a doggie bag or Styrofoam box. Overall, disappointment. First time i didn't need a to-go box at a Japanese steak house due to ridiculously small portions. Not enough food for a normal portion. Very small portions for the price. Also, there appeared to be a shortage of guys running the grill. Some folks were waiting over 45 minutes on service, luckily we were not them. I recommend Toyko for sushi, I don't recommend for Japanese steakhouse. Come on, dude didn't do a onion volcano!

I've been to half a dozen restaurants like this one and there's relatively little variation in the script. The Asian-American chef (from LA -- Lower Alabama, har de har har) comes out and starts hammering out a rhythm with the cutlery. He spins an egg in its shell, announcing that "This is a Japanese egg roll". He does more juggling tricks as he cooks everyone's dinner on the hibachi. He makes a few more corny jokes, takes a bow, and graciously pockets some cash tips. It's not highbrow humor, but... But. After making a few lame "This is a Japanese ---" jokes, he produces some raw meat and lays it on the grill, announcing that it is "Japanese chicken." And then our Asian-American chef starts to meow. "Meow... meow... meow... No," he reassured us, "don't worry, this isn't King Super Buffet" (down the street). It was like watching Woody Allen tell kike jokes. And then, when I picked up a mushroom after it fell on the table, he said, "Ah, good, the 5-second rule. In the kitchen, we use the 10-second rule." Oh my God, my pyloric valve! And then, I kid you not, he says, "No, just kidding, we're an Asian restaurant; the kitchen doesn't have any rules." Minstrelsy is alive and well in the Florida Panhandle. And while the food was tasty enough, I can't bring myself to return.

It was ok. Decent portions, but more of a lunch restaurant than dinner. Chef was decent as well. Did a few tricks and a special request from the 8 year old birthday boy next to us. I do wish they would have severed vegetables first because by the time i got my meat 95% of my rice was gone =/

Awful. I hate giving bad reviews but this place earned it. Bad food, worse service. The hibachi chef was an amateur and it was obvious. Stuff was flying everywhere, he knocked over my gf's mom's drink (and nobody helped clean), and he nearly splashed me with scalding oil. It was embarrassing. They need to train their chefs better before letting them loose on customers. But that was hardly the worst of it - the food came out one at a time so everyone had to wait in between each part of the meal. For instance I finished all my rice and fish before getting any vegetables, then finished that before getting my steak, which was straight up raw. The problem was he didn't cut the filet mignon into even pieces, so some were overcooked but any large pieces were raw in the middle. However by the time we realized this he had already shut off the grill and was cleaning up. We complained to the manager and were given something like $8 off a $100 tab after showing how half the meat was raw. Her rationale for $8 off? That's how much half a plate of filet mignon (menu price: $30) was worth! She really said that! Judging by the rest of the reviews this seems to be a consistent theme at this place. You can do better in Pensacola.

We frequent this place quite often. We don't do hibachi though and usually eat regular dining and/or sushi. The sushi at Tokyo is the best we have had in Pensacola and teriyaki chicken box is delicious and includes a lot of food. Service is hit and miss but we rarely have a problem.

Do not eat here! Food is mediocre but the customer service is horrible. Received the wrong item and management failed to make the corrections, and still charged us for the wrong item.

Tokyo is a decent hibachi and sushi restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, and the restaurant looks pretty clean. The food is ok, but there are similar restaurants with better prices and better food. Overall, I give it 3 stars.
