Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. This place is totally worth making it a priority stop! The food and service was outstanding. The portions are large and everything is very fresh.

Excellent, fresh and authentic middle eastern food!! We loved their spanakopita and tabbouleh & definitely recommend those. Their vegetarian platter and falafel hummus sandwich were also delicious. We ended our dinner on a high note with pistachio and walnut baklava! We didn't care for the ambience but the food was excellent so we will be back!!

Everything was very good. Chicken kebab had lots of flavor and was very moist. Hummus was tasty and smooth, although I don't care for tomatoes on mine. Best of all was the pita bread which was warm, soft, fresh, and seemed to have some kind of light seasoning to give it a little extra savory kick. Service was good, although I did feel a little rushed.

Somewhat off the beaten path, don't be deterred by the location, which is between a gas station and a beauty parlor. This is a gem! The food is fresh, well-cooked, tasty, well-portioned, and well-priced. The service was pleasant and engaging. Overall, a great find for the adventurous tourist!

Disclaimer: Mediterranean Plus, now closed for about 2 years, was one of my favorite restaurants in the whole, wide world. When I was getting ready to move back to Pcola, I looked them up and found out, very very sadly, that they had closed, and I was completely disappointed because I had planned my first meal back in Pcola to be here. I even drove by the restaurant to make sure it had closed. It had. Today, we were driving on 12th Ave to get massages and saw a sign that said "Hummus." We decided to (perhaps) check it out on the way back home, as I have been profoundly disappointed with the Greek and Mediterranean food in this area. I checked out reviews, mostly on urbanspoon and google, and realized, IT'S THE SAME OWNER AND CHEF AS MED PLUS!!!! Are you kidding me!!??!! I mean, seriously folks, my dreams came true today. We walk in, totally new space but totally the same menu, and the same waiter, Greg. When I tasted the dolamades (grape leaves) with tzatziki sauce and the spanakopita (spinach pies), I. was. in. heaven. The owner eventually came out to talk, very nice man and I was gushing over the fact they re-opened. He said he had to close the last restaurant due to family issues, but "I don't have family issues now, so we are planning on being open for a very long time." Everything is not perfect, like in the ladies' bathroom, the paper towel holder keeps opening up and there is electrical tape on the door for some reason unknown to me. You can tell they've done some work on the ambiance of the dining room. So the entire place is not "perfect" and if you are looking for cloth hand towels and granite in the bathrooms, or even cloth tablecloths or napkins, this isn't the place. On the other hand, it's not anywhere close to being a dive either. And the food, did I mention the food?!? Apparently an article in the PNJ is going to be written tomorrow about them and they are expecting to have crowds and tight seating (there are probably twenty or fewer tables). I told the owner "This is hands down the best Mediterranean food I've ever had...anywhere...and I've been to Greece." (Note, he is actually Lebanese) He said "Many people tell me this food is better than the Mother Land." I believe it. I believe it. And thank you, kind sir, for re-opening your little slice of heaven. Make yourself a regular here, you won't regret it.

Saw the reviews. Stopped for lunch. Leg o Lamb platter 9.95. Food Was great and a great value. Plenty of food!

It was very good! I love there selection of all of the healthy foods they have. And there salads are delicious. The people were very nice and fast to get your food out. I absolutely loved this place and wish they had one where I live!
(5)Trinh N.
This is our first time and we ordered the chicken shawarma and chefs special beef tenderloin. Absolutely delicious!! The beef was juicy, tender, and goes really well with the hummus and pita bread. The chicken shawarma was really crispy and well cooked! I would definitely come back to this place!

Outrageous prices for mediocre food. I'm very familiar with Mediterranean food and this place wasn't cutting it. The location is terrible. Service was alright but that's about the only thing I have nice to say about this place. Maybe they can step it up a little bit. I might try again one day but for now.... I don't think so.

Best HUMMUS I have ever tasted. We spent two weeks in the Middle East last year, and this is the best hummus we have ever eaten. Amazingly smooth and creamy, and obviously made there. Little details on the ingredients are carefully watched. I asked about the tomatoes. They had that great smell and taste that you usually only expect from your own garden. The waiter said that a guy they call 'Tomato Tom' stops by several times per week selling only his tomatoes. Delicious. Great gyros and stuffed grape leaves. Not in the greatest neighborhood, but plenty of parking near the front door. Our family loves meeting there for dinner and the prices are very reasonable. Four of us had two apps and gyros or salads, water to drink, for $32 plus tip. Give the food a try. Start off with the hummus and stuffed grape leaves!

We went here kinda leery after just leaving another very bad restaurant. Matt was our server and he was excellent!! We Started with a Hummus appetizer and it was wonderful, rich and the flavor was authentic!! Then onto Lebanese salad and chicken swarma. Both were excellent. Again the flavors were terrific and authentic. We just wanted to sit and enjoy the flavors run around the mouth! We ended with baklava and tiramisu. Both were superb. My husband and I both felt the tiramisu was the best we've had. Finally found a Pensacola restaurant that is great!! I'd suggest you try it. Outside is sketchy but it's worth the trip!!

For a mom & pop Greek restaurant, it was great! I had the gyro plate & the meat was fantastic! The service was very friendly & quick. I'm only giving it 4 stars because they didn't have a gluten free menu & the server wasn't gf trained. Other than that it was great!

Very good lamb. Fresh ingredients. Only got a sandwich but the other patrons dishes looked and sounded (based on comments) taste.

The Hummus is the creamiest I have ever had. When you dip the warm pita bread slices into it you can't get enough hummus loaded into the little piece of bread so you double dip!!! This hummus is one of the BEST I have ever had. So far it's the only thing I have ordered off the menu. It's funny to be so close to Gonzalez Court yet see all these older, rich white people (like me but not the rich part) inside eating with a parking lot full of BMW's, etc...AWESOME PLACE!!!
(5)Brittney B.
Excellent meal from appetizers to entrees and dessert. Wish we lived closer, as this would be a favorite restaurant to frequent weekly!
(5)Ivy A.
Wow... Just, wow. This is the best food I have had in an incredibly long time. I got the vegetarian platter: everything was appropriately seasoned and completely delicious. Probably not meant for one person, but that didn't stop me from plowing through it. You HAVE to see this spot! I wish that I didn't live 6 hours away and that I could visit again sooner:(

We decided to try Hummus because of its high yelp rating and we're not let down! Very fresh ingredients and flavors made for a great lunch. The chicken shawarma sandwich was good but the sampler appetizer was amazing! We'll definitely tell our friends about this place.

Great food!!! Don't be scared off by the location. Inside is quaint and service is wonderful. Portion sizes were generous and affordable. A must try!!
(4)Casey G.
Hummus is the find of the year for us. Everything kn the menu is made from scratch. Don't be scared by the location at a gas station lot. Inside is an oasis that is clean, well decorated, and feels like a trip to the Mediterranean. The hummus is the best in Pensacola, bar none. We had the Gyro and Falafel sandwiches and loved every bite. We will be back for dinner and a bottle of wine. I've spent time in Greece and the Med. This is as authentic as it gets!
(5)BOBBY M.
Went there tonight had the mediterranean platter of food and spinach pie for apps This is rock star, glad to see finally some good ethnic food in Pensacola, spot ON!!
(5)Marianne S.
The service was great...knowledgable but not too intrusive. We ordered Dolmathes which werent anything special...just tasted like plain rice in a grape leaf. We both got the gyro sandwich plate and it was fantastic. Extremely fresh greek salad, flavorful and tender gyro meat and perfect pita. We will be back soon.

Fantastic Food Chef is Mounir Khalil from Mediterranean Plus Great to have Him back Authentic Middle Eastern Food right here in Pensacola
(5)Jacob L.
The baba ganoush to rule them all!!! Literally it was by far the best I ever had. Omg was it amazing. The tabouli was also fantastic. Cons: The place is kind of a dump and the falafel & hummus was just so so. I found a hair in my grape leaves, which continues the tradition of always finding hair in my food at middle eastern restaurants.

I was a huge fan of Med Plus when I lived in pensacola in 2006 and 2007 to the point a friend of mine and I went almost every weekend. The tzatziki dip is by far the best I've ever had (the chef won't give up his recipe though). We were super bummed when it closed and just happened to be chatting about it the other weekend since I live in Pensacola again when we discovered it had been reborn as Hummus! It is just as amazing as I remembered. I always get the tzatziki dip and gyro so can't comment on anything else. So yummy!

Could have been 5 stars had it not been for the socially awkward cigarette breathed waiter. The food though was exceptional. I got the mix grill platter and loved it. This is the definition of a hole in the wall establishment. It's in the middle of the ghetto but it's definitely worth the trip!
(4)Patrick B.
Definitely recommended. Off the beaten path and a little sketchy but the food and service was top notch.
(5)Abigail S.
Yummy!!! I had the falafel & hummus plate. My husband had a sampler platter. Both were outstanding.
(5)Dede H.
Amazing fresh food! Super affordable and huge portions. Service was prompt and the food came out hot and quick.
(5)Shawn T.
Had the salmon with the Mediterranean topping. Absolutely excellent. My wife had the vegetarian platter and it was amazing! The hummus and the babaganoush had a smokey wonderful taste. The Lebanese salad rocks! Don't let the outside fool you, it's a great palace to eat!

I stopped in for lunch today while I was in town on business. This place rocked my socks. Greg was my server and was polite, helpful, and never intrusive. I tried a few appetizers, including the grape leaves, which are served warm, and have an excellent flavor. These were unlike other grape leaves I've had in various places around the country, in a good way. A little bit larger, and more of them on the plate, plenty to share. I also had the spinach pie, which was as good as a homemade version my friend's full Greek mom made for Greek Easter 15 years ago. I still remember it; that's how good it was. The portion was smaller than the grape leaves but it's cut into 4 pieces, so it's enough for everyone to get a taste. I also ordered a hummus plate which came out with a basket of warm, fluffy pita slices. It was as good as I've had anywhere else. I ordered the gyro plate under the sandwich menu, which came out with shawarma, a good sized salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, kalamata olives and lots of feta, as well as a special vinaigrette dressing made with feta that really made the salad pop. I've never had anything like it. I decided to order a side of rice to make up a plate of leftovers to take home for my gf, even after the 40 minute trip she said everything tasted fantastic, and the piece of baklava was the best one she ever had. We're already making plans to go back within the next few weeks.

Just passing through Pensacola a few nights ago, my friends and I hopped off the I10 freeway and took the 10 minute drive to hummus, completely based on the positive Yelp reviews. Pulling up to the place, we joked that "hole in the wall restaurants" always have the best food. Unfortunately that's not the case here. Take your chances! Stop here and you may be rewarded with any of the following: -Microwaved falafel, fried who knows how many days ago and then reheated - baba Ghanoosh from a can - tabouli nearly gone bad, filled with wilted parsley and possibly fermenting tomatoes. NOT fresh. - store bought pita warmed in a microwave - spanakopita warmed from frozen - possibly in a real oven - rubbery chicken, unsavory to eat

Still a fan of this great little restaurant. It's location is deceiving. Inside are a lot of good meals to be had. The Chicken Shwarma salad is my go-to lunch dish. Get it with feta cheese and you'll be a better person for it.

I'm in town for work, and thought I'd see if this place was as good as the reviews claimed. Based on my dinner, it definitely was. I the place looks a little iffy from the outside, sharing a small plaza with a gas station with barred windows, but the interior is nice, if simple. The waiter was very personable pleasant. There was only one other group eating when I arrived (an older gentleman and a small girl), but while looking at the menu, the older gentleman asked if I had been there before and proceeded to give his food the very highest accolades. I started with a baba ganouj appetizer, which was amazing. It was exactly how baba ganouj should taste. The pita bread was also quite good, but not as impressive as the baba ganouj. My meal was a chicken shawarma platter. The chicken was really good, and the garlic sauce was tasty, but I kind of wish I had gotten the sandwich instead of the platter. The platter verion is disassembled, and the components were all great. In any case, the meal was great, the service was awesome, and the price was quite good as well. If work ever brings me back to Pensacola, I will definitely return here.

Amazing Lebanese and Mediterranean food! Had their hummus and mix grill. Everything was very tasty!

Awesome food. Service was on top of everything. Spent $45 for two with beers and appetizer. Servings were large and fit the price. Will definitely go back

I was so sad when Mediterranean Plus closed, soon after we moved here in 2012. I'd even tried eating at Jordan Valley to fill the Med+ void; alas, it is but a pale shadow of this place. Had I known months ago when Hummus opened that it's the same people and same menu as Med+, I would have been stuffing my face all this time. I had sorely missed the lentil pilaf, hummus, and tzatziki. This place really does have some of the best Greek food I've had outside of Greece. Good Mediterranean food is back in Pensacola! Hummus has fantastic food at good prices. Don't let the sort of sketchy location keep you away!
