We've been there a few times and think they have the best Sushi in town. Their chirashi is good for beginners, as it rarely contains anything other than shrimp, tuna, yellow tail, salmon, and crab. Their specialty roles are great, especially the salmon naruto. Haven't tried the regular food other than the tempura dinner. It left something to be desired. Stick with their sushi, you can't go wrong.

By far, Horizen is the best and my favorite sushi joint in Pensacola. Unique rolls, quality ingredients and solid service. The place is huge inside and the pineapple sake is a-mazing! The Tiger and Fiesta rolls are remarkable. I'm a Pensacola native and no one has every talked smack about Horizen. Not cheap but worth every penny!

Being from California I was pretty skeptical on whether or not I would find any good sushi outside of California. Horizen proved me wrong! I came here with my boyfriend and we ordered a variety of rolls. The type of rolls are different than ones I was used to because of the type of seafood that is available in the area, but it was fresh and delicious. We usually order around 6 rolls and spend about 50 bucks, but it is worth it. We come out full and happy. This has become a regular spot for the both of us.

Hubby and I have been looking for a really good sushi restaurant since we moved out here from CA a year ago. This place is not the easiest to find- kind of tucked off the road a bit- but well worth the discovery!! They have a liquor license! Woo hoo! Sake, wines, beer, ahh... Everything is super fresh. My fave, the cucumber salad, was perfect. Super thinly sliced, enough sauce to taste, and a huge portion make this the salad I order again and again. I also like their seaweed salad. The edamame was hot, fresh, and had the right amount of salt. I have only had their rolls and nigiri. VERY impressed with every roll we got. The other sushi restaurants around here have a huge variety of rolls, but they all taste the same. Not here. Every roll is a unique combination of flavors that all go well together. I was missing my pizza roll like crazy (why doesn't anyone here do one??), but the Dynamite roll is a pretty close substitute. The only problem with some rolls is that they are too big to eat in one bite :( The nigiri we had was fresh and tasty. And they used enough wasabi to make it yummy!! I mean, what is nigiri without a little wasabi on the rice? This has definitely become our favorite sushi place out here. The chefs are friendly and the staff is awesome. We will be back again and again. I highly recommend!!

Horizen makes absolutely amazing sushi!!! Be prepared to shell out about $50-$60 for 5 rolls, but it is so worth it! My favorite is the Sonic Bomb roll. But they have so many amazing & creative rolls to choose from, you'll need to visit more than once.

We ate lunch here and it was my first time. I was really excited, but quite disappointed. The outside looked nice, but the inside was old. I ordered the Maki bento box and my husband ordered the beef teriyaki bento box. I chose tuna avocado roll with my meal. The avocado was old. I was dissappointed I couldn't eat that part. I am Japanese, I know fresh sushi. So, this was my first n last time.

The Asian cuisine is is good. Our waitress was very nice and helpful with a great attitude. There was a buy one get one on the hot Sake! There is a nice outdoor dining area.

Delicious and fulfilling fun menu, quaint little bar area but large dining room. Love the Koi pond/fountain and outside but no one was there at 6 PM. Odd to see in Florida. The building is large and spacious and the bar is well stocked with Japanese sakes, maybe too close to the food for my taste. Price was right but what do I know, I didn't pay for my own meal!

Food was not bad. I had a special request that they accommodated but really charged a lot for. They didn't advise of that at the time of ordering so it came as a shock. Service was okay but they were really busy so it may have been better had it not been so busy.

Absolutely the best sushi in the area. Very relaxing atmosphere. Miss Ginger ensures great service is provided. Ask for recommendations, if you are not a regular or a sushi expert. The staff will steer you in the right direction.

The person who posted the review below probably just wanted to be the first to review something. And if they think Horizen is expensive, they've probably never left the FloraBama area. Horizen is, hands down, the best sushi I've had, even compared to the sushi I've had in NY, LA, Washington DC, and London. Thanks mostly to the late John Ma's creativity and understanding of local seafood, Horizen has incredibly interesting, complex, beautiful maki. I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar, which I used to do so that I could chat with John, and allowing a sushi chef to guide your experience, which John used to do for me on occasion. They are knowledgeable and friendly, as are all of the staff, and watching them with their knives is mesmerizing. As far as sushi goes, my favorites are the Opal, Bling-Bling, Fiesta, No Name, Baked Shrimp Tempura, and Crunchy rolls. There are many, many that are not on the menus. Just ask. The non-sushi menu is top-notch, too. Their tempura is light and flaky. Their shumai, deliciously smooshy. The house ginger salad dressing is craving-worthy, even though I'm sure it's from a bottle. My favorite house special is Horizen Shrimp, which is butterflied shrimp stuffed with snow crab and plated with asparagus on some sauce that I don't recall the name of and another peanut sauce. I usually sub broccoli for asparagus. Either way, it's heaven. For dessert, try any of their Asian ice creams (red bean, green tea, etc) or their tempura fried ice cream, which is, again, the stuff that cravings are made of. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. And it's not just the food, which is stellar. The hostesses, chefs, and wait staff are super friendly, professional, and accommodating. Some have been with the restaurant since it opened some - how many? - 10 years ago, maybe. Can I give it a 6th star??

My friends have raved to me over and over about this establishment, so I decided to give it a try. This restaurant is very mediocre. Very overpriced, but quality is not outstanding either. I won't be returning.

I've been here about five times and the food is consistently wonderful. The sushi is some of my favorite. It's never packed when I come here and I often wonder why this place seems to be so slow. The chefs obviously take pride in their craft and they deserve five stars for an overall amazing experience. Each time I've been the ambience is nice, the place is clean, and the wait staff is extremely professional!!

We have been coming here for years and the sushi is always top notch! We always get the high roller and thunder roll! The New Orleans roll is great if you like crawfish... :) the staff is nice and the owners seem genuine in delivering good service and take pride in their food and restaurant! If the restaurant is busy there may be a wait on food if the sushi bar gets backed up, but we typically don't mind waiting and just enjoying our time at the restaurant... The owners will bring you complimentary appetizers to excuse the wait... We will always come back her!

Some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. I really dig the variety of rolls and the presentation as well. There's also a cool coy pond by the entrance. With that said, the last time I ate there, a Celine Dion greatest hits album was playing over the PA. No joke. Please, don't do that.

Delicious! Highly recommend the sonic bomb roll. This place has quick service and the food is great. The lunch buffet is also a great deal, to try as much as you want and only play a small amount. I will definitely be back!

My new favorite sushi place! It hit the spot after a few days of eating intense fried food. We got a szechuan tofu (I think it was szechuan) appetizer that came out sizzling on a hot plate. Flavor was to die for! Split two rolls between two of us. A snow crab, a tuna, avocado & asparagus, and tofu, carrot, something else. All of them were good, very fresh ingredients (especially the fish...and the snow crab was OMG good!). Definitely going back when I'm in town next!

I've been here only once with a group of friends and it definitely convinced me to come back. They have a great selection of rolls (including some awesome looking specialty rolls) as well as nigiri sushi and bento boxes. Come for lunch if you are looking to get one of their bento boxes, as they're a little cheaper. We came on a Saturday afternoon and they had a special on their sake -- buy one large, get a small free. Only other sushi place I've been to in Pensacola is Dharma Blue. As good as DB is, I would take Horizen any day of the week. I would say the sushi is on par with DB (my opinion as I am not a sushi expert), but the prices are more reasonable at Horizen. DB is a good place to go on a first date. Horizen is a good place to eat a lot of sushi and drink a lot of sake with your pals.

My boyfriend and I took my daughter here today before heading back to Dothan. She is a big fan of sushi and Japanese food, so I wanted to treat her with her favorite food before I had to head back home. She and I both ordered the ginger salad, the tempura vegetables, and some sushi. My boyfriend ordered a vegetable egg roll and the chicken and vegetables. The ginger salad was very good. The vegetables were fresh and the dressing was great, even though it was a tad too salty. The tempura vegetables were also good and obviously made to order since they came out fresh and hot. The sushi rolls were okay - A little too much rice - I had the spicy tuna roll and the crunchy roll and they were both okay. My boyfriend said his food was very good. What really ruined the experience was the "all you can eat" pressure and the HORRIBLE service. The way it works is you apparently get one chance to order and you better order the right amount. If you don't order enough, good luck getting anyone to take an additional order and if you order too much and can't finish most of it, you'll get fined extra for not being a member of the clean plate club. So you better like what you ordered, you better finish all of it, and you better be prepared for the waitress to ignore your empty drink glass! My daughter and I were just about finished with our food when the waitress brought out my boyfriend's meal so it's a good thing we shared some of our food with him. When he inquired about the delay, the waitress laughed and gave us the impression she thought he was he just being impatient. In closing, the food was good, but the service was so bad, we won't be returning.

Decent Asian food for a decent price. They have a broad range of items on the menu, from sushi to stir fry. You won't have your socks blown off, but if you're looking for standard Asian cuisine, this ain't a bad place to start.

My campus family and I went here for Sunday lunch and it's all you can eat sushi and we paid about $14 with tax and tip. The sushi selection is good and there is also food for those who don't particularly like sushi. The service is very good and it wasn't busy. There's outside seating and a waterfall pond with real fishes in it. The setting is very pretty.

This review is not for the Pensacola location but for the brand new Gulf Breeze restraunt. I was unable to find the corrext place to leave a review due to the fact the just opened a few days ago. Today I had lunch there I had a yellow fun tuna scallion roll and a spicy tuna roll. The quality of the tuna was terrible it gagged me as I swallowed it. Not only was I disatified with the sushi but our waitress was extremely rude and very short with me as I tried to communicate what I wanted. After I ate and paid my business partner and I finished our meeting but the whole time the same rude waitress was throwing things down on the sushi bar and slapping the counter with her hand. Every time she walked by me she would brush into my chair. It was obvious she wanted us to leave and it made me so uncomfortable. I feel like we were paying customers and had every right to sit there and finish our conversation. I will not recommend this new branch of horizens to anyone and I am disgusted all around.

My husband and I were excited to try this place because of the reviews. We were pretty disappointed. Other than the great All You Can Eat price, the sushi was crap. Loaded with rice. They use imitation "krab" in more than half the rolls on the menu. The sonic bomb roll that you see pictures of here, was topped with a horrible mayonnaise based sauce. The non-sushi items were better than the sushi, and perfect small portions that allowed is to try a variety. Service was good. But the sushi didn't taste fresh at all. We probably won't be back.

I was really excited to eat here after all the gleaming reviews, but wow was I disappointed. I ordered the 'Horizon Spicy Roll' and my brother ordered the 'Rock and Roll' and the 'Snow Crab Roll.' Everything was really bland. The 'Horizon Spicy Roll' was ten dollars and for that I'd really expect an awesome roll. I don't usually use soy sauce or wasabi, but it I loaded up just to give it some flavor.

We read the reviews about this place and they all seemed pretty good for the most part so my husband and I decided to drop in one Saturday night for dinner. We arrived at 5:30 pm and the parking lot was dead empty, we thought that was a bit strange but figured they were maybe not open yet so we went to the front door and they were open. We were greeted by a older woman who was very nice and seated us promptly. We were in the mood for sushi so we ordered sonic bomb roll and salmon roll , the big easy roll and crab roll. We also ordered Gyoza as an appetizer. The Gyoza was ok, nothing special and the sushi was good however it wasn't cold, the rice and seafood was at room temperature, didn't taste very fresh like it should. We used to live in Japan and we know what its supposed to taste like but with that being said we know nothing compares to Japan sushi so were not really picky . We had a Saporro beer and that was nice and cold . One thing I didn't like was that there were nats flying everywhere as we were eating. I thought that was a bit gross. The waitress was nice and did inform us that they have ayce sushi for lunch for a good price so that will make me come back but yeah overall it was meh.

We were having sushi withdrawals after moving from Hawaii.. thank goodness we found this place! We've only gone for lunch, but you can't beat their $10 all you can eat deal - every day of the week. Fantastic menu choices & great service, plus they even show ESPN.

Most definitely not the best sushi in Pensacola. The only roll I liked of their's was their take on an eel avocado, but my main quips that I always have at just about every sushi place in town is the rice. The rice was nearly tasteless and unseasoned. Worst yet, it wasn't fresh. The rice had turned solid white, a sign that the rice had been chilled, and no good for sushi. Sushi rice has to be fresh, and it should appear somewhat translucent rather than chalky white. It was lunch, so the other bits inside of the sushi, such as the salmon and eel, were a bit on the stingy side. Also, the spicy mayo was horrible, which they piled on their sonic bomb roll about an inch thick. Yetch! All I could figure out is that they're using an American Mayo combined with the spicy chili oil. Japanese mayo is different as it uses rice vinegar versus the stuff we use in our's. My mother had a ginger salad with her lunch, and it looked a few days past the time it should've been dumped. I know these restaurants have to make and chill the salads ahead of time, as I work at one of these joints, but this poor salad was pretty sad. Their chicken soup was delicious, I'll give them that, and they weren't stingy on the scallion or mushrooms. Service was wonderful, otherwise it would've been a one star. Our server was really, really on top of things, was friendly and very nice. My mother liked her lunch better than mine, she had the beef teriyaki. The veggies were really crisp, fresh, and the dumplings were good too. They underseason their fried rice a touch, but better that than over seasoned, right? You can always add a bit of soy sauce. That said, I don't know if I'll return. I don't know if it was the food or what, but about an hour or two after leaving, I felt very ill to my stomach. Which is a disappointment, as I'd like to find at least another place with decent sushi, and the actual restaurant is fairly nice and quiet. Maybe an off day for the restaurant, I don't know? It was quite cheap, but still, cheap food isn't worth getting ill over.

Had Hercules Roll and Bamboo Roll. Asked for little rice. Both were very tasty. Rare to find a place with Toro, and was surprised to find it here. Waitress said they no longer carry it, because it wasn't moving. Too bad, but I understand because it's expensive and needs to be fresh.

Best Sushi in the Pensacola area. We are from Ca and we are a bit of Sushi snobs. The service is a little slow, and that cost the star, but over all it's great. The lunch special is all you can eat, and includes entrees. Get the deep fried dumplings.

First of all, this restaurant is very confusing. Everything about this restaurant screams CHINESE. Come on... playing chinese music in a resturant you call japanese? It's hilarious. Food is VERY, i mean very expensive for what it is. The food itself is nothing special but it's very easy to receive a bill nearing 50 dollars for 2 people. As for the taste, it was nothing special. Same type of quality from a cheap japanese restaurant. the tempura was very soggy and the presentation of the rolls weren't very good. I was very disappointed.

OK atmosphere. Kinda cheesy, but the food (we had sushi) was great! Not my favorite place in town, but great for friends to catch up and relax.
