We went to Joe Patti's on an empty stomach and we were referred to go here to eat. Honestly I can say from the outside it didn't look to good. But boy were we wrong. This place hands down was great. It has a total mom-pop vibe to it but the service was excellent. They made sure our large party of people was taken care of the whole time. The food was excellent!!! The jumbo was the best I ever had, not mention the cheese grits were perfect. Honestly we all ate part of each other's order so that we can try different things and I wasn't disappointed by anything I tried. One there thing we have noticed in a lot of restaurants in Navarre the water doesn't taste good. But here they don't have this issue, everything was perfect. Thanks Joey's for making our time here perfect.

If you don't mind eating with a plastic fork and food in a paper lined basket this restaurant has wonderfully fresh, tasty fried seafood. (I would have rated it five star if it wasn't for the plastic fork). The gumbo is wonderfully tasty, the oysters, plump and lightly breaded as are the huge shrimp. The fish is so fresh and flaky and the hush puppies have a refreshing pop of heat to them. The crab cakes are packed with fresh crab instead of being just filler. Drinks are always cold and refilled by the attentive friendly wait staff in a timely manner. It's a no frills restaurant with ample seating but light on parking spaces. Also, very "kid friendly" as they also have a kid's menu. A great lunch stop when we are shopping for Joe Patti seafood behind the restaurant.

Our first time camping at Fort Pickens and visiting the Pensacola area. Best seafood market we've been to on the gulf!

Captain Joey Patti's Seafood Deli on 2/6/2014 We arrived here on a Thursday around noon:30. The restaurant was almost full, but we got seated right away. Our waitress, Daphne, was outstanding on all counts. She was pleasant, polite, knowledgable about the food, prompt and bent over backward to help us "tourists". Then the Shrimp Creole arrived. It is only served on Thursdays which is why we went on a Thursday. From the moment I tasted the Shrimp Creole, my mouth was in heaven! Absolutely delicious! Best I have ever had! Then my fried popcorn shrimp arrived. First of all, the shrimp was larger than the popcorn shrimp that I have usually seen - a nice size. The popcorn shrimp is hand breaded daily. It has such a light coating on it that I could actually taste the shrimp! Delicious! And the cheese grits were a welcome change from French fries. My friend had the shrimp salad, which was delicious as well, and wasn't fried. We were too full for dessert, but we did take bowls of Shrimp Creole home for dinner! One note - the restaurant isn't fancy and serves food in baskets and plastic containers with plastic silverware, but the food was the important part here. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I will always eat here whenever I return to the area!

I can't recommend this place enough. I have eaten the gumbo here for years and I always come back for more whenever I'm in town. When I was in high school my gf worked here and would bring me some about once a week. Every time I eat here I order fish, shrimp and gumbo. There isn't a platter that comes with all three (there should be) so I have to make my own. I'm writing this review back in my new home of Ga. and I'm a little sad right now because I know it will be a while before I'm back in P'cola and can get me some more gumbo. Even worse, I was there just yesterday and didn't have a way to buy a half gallon that I could put on ice for my drive home. :(

It's hard to find a good seafood restaurant that won't break your wallet/bank account. Just let me put it out there that their crab patty is divine. You can't get any fresher seafood that here. They're right next to water and you see the employees bringing in their catches. Can you believe how awesomely great that makes the food taste just in your mind to see that? My one year old ate their fish until there wasn't any left on my plate. It was something in the grouper family. Sorry I can't remember... except for the taste. It was scrumptious. Don't get me started on the gumbo. Oy, the gumbo. How deliciously wonderful. Don't get intimidated by the busy-ness of the restaurant. Even when it is packed to the brim, all waitress/waiters/hosts are polite, warm and welcoming. This is a must for all-- locals, tourists, visitors, passerbys.

This restaurant is on a separate lot than the market. Very non-descript place but good food. I ordered the fried grouper with grits and a cup of gumbo. All were delicious and about $15 total. I loved the batter on the grouper which was flaky and tender. Went for lunch on a Thursday and it was a popular place to be.

We happened to stop in at Joe Patti's on our way through town and were surprised and impressed with both the affordability and great taste or the food. We split a pound of crab claws, grouper basket and gumbo and everything we ordered was excellent! I would highly recommend this place to anyone I know visiting the area.

Enjoyed the fried mullet and side dishes. Some lemon wedges for the mullet would have been nice.

In Nawth Car-o-lina we refer to this as a Fish Camp. Captain Joey Patti's is your wax paper in plastic basket, fried everything, slaw in Styrofoam cups, sticky tartar sauce bottle, fish place. Our server was WONDERFUL (sorry, don't know her name - Asian heritage lady.) I ordered the catch of the day which was fried basa and it was really good. The slaw was good but was a bit too mayonnaisey for me and pretty oniony if you don't like onions. Fries were common ordinary. My friend ordered scallops which she felt were probably pre-breaded and allowed to sit a while. Then they must have sat for a while again because when brought to the table they were soggy on bottom - apparently had been sitting in their own juices. Her oysters were well prepared. Others in my party commented the fried shrimp and cocktail sauce were very good. This is one of those places that I would not feel compelled to visit again.

Some of the best fried Oysters and Shrimp you'll ever eat. Super casual and simple but really great seafood. Not open for dinner. Check days and times they're open.

We were visiting FL and looking for a fresh variety of seafood. Food was definitely fresh, but the majority of the menu options were fried. The hushpuppies were great. The staff was friendly. The restaurant itself was very old and outdated. Visited June 2015.

Low priced fried seafood. Best low-priced fried seafood you will ever eat. Excellent Gumbo. So impressed that I bought some to take home....and I haven't done that in years. Great place to take the kids out for seafood and not break your budget.

The food was good and it was priced right. Call me a snob but I just don't enjoy eating off paper plates and paper forks...

When I think of my hometown --- the first thing that comes to mind is fresh, delicious seafood and Joe Patt's Seafood Deli did not disappoint. Yes, the parking is terrible and the place is packed liked sardines in a can, but the locals know where to come for some good grub. Each time I come here the "Shrimp Salad" is a must. Made fresh daily! Shrimp and shell pasta in a mayo type sauce with special seasoning -- YUM! My daughter ordered the dinner size portion of Crab Patty -- delicious crab meat, breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning hand mixed and breaded -- fried to perfection! HUGE portions (baked beans, hush puppies, coleslaw, with fries or/and cheese grits). Also ordered the Dinner size Fried Shrimp -- 12 large fresh shrimp that were lightly battered and fried. They were not battered too heavy and tasted delicious. Their menu offers a variety of specials to satiate any craving for seafood. Had to knock one star because they misplaced our ticket, however it was worth the wait. If you are in Pensacola -- you must try Captain Patti's Seafood Deli -- you won't be disappointed.

BEST fried seafood ever. Melts in your mouth and the batter is ridiculously tasty (and thin). Mostly locals.. So happy we stopped by on our way out of destin!

This place gets packed and the parking lot is insufficient to hold the multitude of horseless carriages that roll up to disgorge hungry passengers. Get there early or plan to get creative when trying to find a slot to park. The food that I've had is...okay. I had two good-sized fried shrimp off of my lunchmate's shrimp platter, which were lightly battered/breaded and fried lightly. But really, fried shrimp is an item that is difficult to mess up. I had the mullet po' boy. Or, more precisely, I had a salad po' boy with two small pieces of mullet on top (see picture). Seriously? The damned thing was difficult to eat in the configuration as presented. Volume-wise, I had 4:1 lettuce to mullet, with nowhere to put condiments. In hindsight, I should have removed 80% of the lettuce, placed the mullet filets *IN* the bun (where they belong), then commenced noshing. As it was, I muddled through and ate it, but I was mystified why the bun was completely filled with shredded lettuce. Whatever. The mullet was okay, just overpowered by the veggies. The fries are plank-style potato logs, fried just right. They are apparently cut from ginormous mutant potatoes, because my friend had a single fry that was about 6 inches long (picture). She gave it to me and, after I ate it, I was completely sated. Seriously, that was a frickin' huge french fry. Good tea, efficient and friendly staff. You have to walk to a different part of the building if you wish to pay via debit/credit card. I suppose separating the server and bill payment functions expedites both, although standing in line after eating always chaps my backside. One more thing that I want to kvetch about: The menu is covered (covered!) with advertisements for other local businesses, as are the table tops. WTH? I can't articulate why this offends me, but it does. Maybe a great place to grub doesn't need to whore out its menu as a tawdry billboard for bailbond businesses and the like? I dunno. I just don't appreciate it. I'd go back, if a friend wanted to go. I wouldn't drive down from Milton for the express purpose of eating here, though.

Food was great, staff was friendly. Seafood as fresh as it gets. Seafood market is next door.

Ran into the market next door before we realized that they don't serve food like a sit down place. This place was packed even though it is kind of hidden on the side. The waiter was one of, if not the best part of this place. She was incredibly kind and stayed on top of the drinks. I asked if they had garlic butter and they didn't, but she went out of her way to get some for me. This place was a 4 star until we got our food, but at least everything was fresh. I recommend the catch of the day and the shrimp. The mullet was overrated, the crab cake wasn't too good, and I'm not a huge fan of wedge fries. The gumbo was yummy but kind of bland without hot sauce, salt, and pepper. We went here because it was the best review on yelp. Given the chance again being in the area I would try somewhere else.

In my book this place would be a two star joint because everything is fried, but I realize some people like that. The crab cake was crispy on the outside but wet in the middle. The gumbo was ok. We shared the Capt Joey platter. Seafood was super fresh and the portions are huge!

Delicious! The grouper filets were delicious, and cole slaw was tasty and the iced tea was excellent! Service was very good although 2 of our party ordered salads which took an especially long time to be delivered. I found the cheese grits to be bland and I wouldn't order those again. One of our party said the hushpuppies were delicious with bits of jalapeno peppers in them. I gave 4 stars because almost everything on the menu is fried and there is no baked/broiled/steamed option for thsoe who don't want fried/breaded food. The waitress said they were "working on that". I will defintely go back.

Outstanding food and very fresh!! My family had the daily special of basa fish and it was cooked perfect!! Also had popcorn shrimp, fried chicken, Calamari, shrimp poboy, and also the gumbo!!! It is a hole in the wall place and only open for lunch but worth the drive!!!

had a combo platter of shrimp, crab cake, & catch of the day, for about $20. it was A LOT of food! catch of the day & shrimp was good. the crab cake was different...not something I would order again. it's nothing spectacular, although it is fresh. wasn't really impressed.

Great seafood. Mamma had shrimp, nice large battered shrimp that were so sweet and good, exceptional Cole slaw and hushpuppies. Sis and I had fried grouper! Yummy! Huge drinks, no alcohol served but who needs it with such simple fare? Highly recommended.

Incredible! When you arrive at Captain Joey Patti's you have two entrance doors to choose from: the north door is for carryout while the south door is for dining in the restaurant. We chose to dine in. No frills to the decor of the restaurant. There were a lot of people around noon on Saturday, July 3 but there are enough tables that nobody ever had to wait. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Only disappointing item from menu was that most everything was fried. Can't remember seeing any grilled fish which is what I usually have. Catch of the day was fried basa. Waitress described basa as being similar to grouper only less fishy. I tried it and it was amazing! Wife had crab patties which were huge and incredible. Kids had shrimp which were lightly breaded and fried, also delicious. While my children are 9 and 7 we did not specify that we wanted the shrimp from the kids menu so they were served the adult portions. I will definitely go back here again the next time I am in Pensacola. It is out of the way, but it is worth the drive!

I've had great gumbo in New Orleans so I wondered how the gumbo at Joe Pattis would compare. With all the great reviews I had to try it. The gumbo is outstanding and on par with gumbo served in New Orleans. I will definitely be back for more. I also found the fried oysters to very tasty. Most places use too much coating. These oysters were coated to perfection.

If you like fried food, you will love this place. I will say the grouper was really nice but everything else was just ok. Coleslaw was a bit peppery, the shrimp salad had pasta shells in it and a little too much old bay, and I was told the crabcakes/patties were flavorless. The service was ok, people were pleasant, but the air conditioner we sat near/under was covered in dust and desperately needed to be cleaned.

I was excited to eat local fresh seafood and was disappointed with (literally) the only grilled fish on the menu, the grilled salmon salad. It was very fishy. While our server was incredibly sweet, service was very slow. It's a little dirty in the restaurant. If you love fried food, you'll get along with their menu.

  • Tricia G.

Very busy local restaurant with friendly, but incredibly slow service. Took us over 20 min to get drinks. In all, we were there over an hour. Everyone thought the food was "ok". The one thing I thought was very good was the basket catch of the day, which was Basa.

I give this place 4 stars, even though I'm not a fried food fan. Their gumbo is to die for. Most everything here is fried. We actually went to the market and got some shrimp and sea scallops steamed and brought them to the restaurant, ordered some gumbo and had a great lunch. The service was great.

  • Greg M.

Interesting little seafood diner, across the parking lot from the seafood market, by the same name. Five stars for the freshest seafood around, plus three stars for ambiance (not much) = a solid four star rating, in my book. Service was nothing special, but you're going for the seafood & gumbo, so overlook the plastic forks and sparse decor, and order the grouper. You'll be glad you did!
