Typical Mexican fare but the prices are good and they have drink specials. But I wonder if I'm starting a trend. After waiting close to 30 minutes, I was presented with a bill but hadn't gotten my food yet. When I pointed this out, my server immediately took care of the bill for me and my food arrived a few minutes later. Kodos for god customer service.

Went to have a late lunch and when the hostess sat us, the table and seats were not clean. The hostess did not even seem to care when we asked her to clean it off for us. It took ten minutes to get our drinks (not by the waitress). The waitress comes over to take our order finally. Felt a little rushed to be honest. The food came out right as our drinks came out. My boyfriend ordered the "simple" beef and cheese nacho plate and it came out looking like soup with just a few chips that were soggy from all the cheese melted. He had to eat it with a fork because he couldn't pick the chips up. The waitress never came to check on us to see how our food was. Saw we were almost finished and came to bring us the check. We paid and left. Walked outside and saw on the patio where their ash tray is and it was filled with lots of trash, empty alcohol bottles (beer, fireball, etc).

Suprised and satisfied. Made a quick jerk turn into the parking lot...thought I was going to eat at Applebee's...my car said no. I am VERY happy to give this restaurant a 4 star. The salsa was very fresh and the taco salad and seasoning were authentic in taste. My palette has not experienced those flavors in years. I will return ASAP. The staff was friendly with fixated smiles :) now.......since I have to explain why the no 5 star rating, the fabulously fried crisp shell was immediately soggy on the bottom. I had to line my plate with napkins to absorb. The ratio of the ingredients were spot on though. Please give it a try. It also didn't upset my GERD.

We've been twice, and it was okay but the service leaves one wishing. Last time they brought mine and my husband's food but neglected to bring my son's til we asked for it. And the waitress didn't even offer is reprieve from this serious mistake just said, well that's weird, and off she went. Meh.

Wow! The service at this place is impressive to say the least. As soon as we are seated chips and salsa are slid onto the table from another server and our drinks are back within a minute of ordering! The food was even delivered in under five minutes! All this and the food is delicious and fairly priced! Really nothing to complain about! This is my new favorite Mexican in Pensacola hands down!

Poor service. Food is ok. This place will nickel and dime you. I ordered the veggie fajitas and they were good. But only 2 small tortillas. After asking for another tortilla I was charged $1.50 for it. Server was inattentive and immediately brought our bill after food was delivered. Poor customer service her. Go somewhere else!

Be prepared to wait at your table. This is their second day and they are struggling to keep up... A soft opening is what it seems like because of how long it is taking the kitchen and bar. Overall this place gets a three for service and food but I do believe that it is because they are still working out the service. After being seated and placing an order it took the kitchen roughly an hour to put out food. It wasn't just us but our whole section. People were clapping for joy for the tables in our group who finally received food. The food itself was ok, my wife had a burrito and I had the fish tacos. Again nothing to write home about. We order two drinks from the bar. They were tasty, but you could tell the bartender/server had no idea which table she was going to, she came out once did a walk around trying to figure out who it belong to and went back inside and then came back out after asking for help. Again I don't want to be to hard on this place because it is brand new, I just think a soft opening to get practice/or even a day where the kitchen cooks up all the menu items and then takes it to different businesses or something with a discount of menu items for the moment would have been better. We will try it again after they have been open for a few months. (Lastly, watch out for the chairs, one lady in our section went to sit down and her chair was missing a leg, she almost went tumbling and she looked embarrassed but everyone was more comforting than making her feel embarrassed)

Went with my wife for lunch. Sat at the bar and waited for service, which took awhile. When she came we ordered right away: two salads. She brought a basket of very greasy chips that contain more crumbs then chips and a bowl of salsa. We pushed it aside. Waited almost 20mins for our food. Called the waitress over and asked were our food was. She said the manager was in the back seeing what was going on the the kitchen. Looked at my wife and said, Let's go ! Went to Moe's and had lunch. First time, last time.

We decided to grab some guacamole with our chips as our appetizer, and we ate the whole bowl! We couldn't eat actual entree! It was so good! But my dad got the fish tacos , and we took small bites of the spectacular fish. We'll be back!

This is my second go around with this place. The first, I walked out Friday evening after sitting at the bar for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging I was there. This time, I came over for lunch and the place was empty. The service still sucked and the radio voiced bartender even made bad jokes about my needing a steak knife for my carne asada and 'you must being going for the clean plate award.' Anyway, the food was actually quite good. Great salsa, fresh chips, and a well prepared steak. It's a coin toss in my opinion.

Went there one evening with some co workers. Place was empty and the service was horrible! Staff seemed more concerned with one another than the few guest they had. Had to flag down the bartender multiple times to get napkins, more drinks etc. she never once cleared the table of empty glasses, or anything. Chips and salsa never refilled and we were all drinking the margaritas that are $12 a glass! My husband ended up joining us and the plan was to eat dinner there after my co workers left, but after the poor service we received just with the drinks, we decided to leave and eat at casa ole! Much better service there.... My guess, cactus cantina won't be here much longer unless the managers start being present and get Rid of all the young kids clowning around who are" working" there. Sad, I really liked the place when it first opened, but it went down hill fast!**** also, none of the TV s were working. It just had the "no signal" wording bounce across the screen the entire time we were there!

Best things on menu: margaritas, negra modelo beer, the home made guacamole, and the pinã fajitas! You will not find anything like the pinã fajitas anywhere else in town. They take a pineapple and hollow it out, then they throw the meat and fixings into the hollowed out pineapple, then they put the pineapple chunks in with the other stuff... Holy god almighty. The best fajitas I've ever tasted. The pineapple juice really makes the meat, peppers, and onions tender and tasty. I crave these at least once a week!

I went for lunch with a friend. The hostess/waiter was really friendly and attentive. We sat outside on the patio which was really lovely. I ordered the spinach enchiladas and they were ok...I probably wouldn't order again. The cactus grits, however, were fantastic, as was the rainbow margarita!

Excellent food, not too pricey, great service every time I come here, and the food comes out super fast!

I had lunch here today and it was just okay. My seafood quesadilla was just average, a bit overloaded with cheese that tasted kind of odd. Service was okay, the wait staff was friendly. I was a bit surprised to hear country music being played at a Mexican restaurant. I did enjoy the salsa that was served with the chips. Not sure if I would visit again.

Really liked this place! The food was good. Had the fajitas which one portion was large enough for two. And the rainbow margarita was large enough for 4!! Mammoth but delicious. And our server Bobbie was awesome. She was the bartender but really kept her eye on the tables. Excellent drinks and service!!

Great guacamole! Came here on a weeknight and sat at the bar to watch Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Bar was nice and clean and could sit about a dozen people comfortably. They have drink specials every night and change depending on the day. The margaritas looked like a top seller at the bar. I had the chimichanga plate and was very impressed with it. I would definitely be returning with some friends.

Just tried this place today for lunch with a friend. I will never go back again. It was highly overpriced, there were no lunch specials and our waitress was horrible. The food was horrible. The beans were nasty and the rice was the worst I have ever had. How can you screw up rice? I don't know, but they did. The waitress walked by and tossed our bill on the table and as she did she said I will take this when you are ready, well, we wanted 2 bills but she never came by to let us say that. After our food came she was by our table once. I sat there with no water the rest of the time. Since the food was horrible I didn't eat but half of it. She didn't even ask if I needed a box. I asked her for that and when she brought it she tossed it on the table. In a nutshell, this place sucks. Go to LaHacienda or Taco Bell. They are both much better.

Been twice since opening and each time the wait is ridiculous. Each time the server just disappears forever, like they have a second job in the back of the building or something. Hour and a half each time I've been for lunch. Food is ok, my friends have gotten the salads which they all disliked, because they were a mushy mess.

Across the street from the Hotel at the airport. Fast and friendly service on a Tuesday night, clean and great taste. Got the Burrito Ranchero with rice and the cactus grits I think the name is and it was delicious. I would go back since is convenient from were I stay.

Honestly the food was okay. I've been to Cactus Cantina in DC a few times and I didn't go because the food was great (it wasn't), I went because the atmosphere was fun and trendy. This Cactus Cantina doesn't even have that going for it. The half assed hung sombreros are a nice touch but that's the only decoration. If you aren't in a booth then you are sitting cafeteria style in an open room which is just awkward. Our first waiter didn't give us chips or salsa which is the only thing that I look forward to at a Mexican restaurant. The second waiter we got, Terry was super nice and about 120 times more helpful than the first waiter. Also, around 9:00 on Saturday all of the waiters began to count their tips and eat at one of the tables which is just kind of weird to me. On our way out, there were two HUGE tables (each one sat at least 16 people) that were just sitting untouched with all of the food out and flies around it. These people were finishing up when we were on our way in about an hour and a half before. I was pretty impressed with the bathrooms though. I'd rather go to an aesthetically challenged Mexican place with amazing food (like Casa Ole) than to a boring and bland one like Cactus Cantina. Edit: wanted to note that I enjoyed my Twisted Margarita though.

Poor service, food took forever, and was quite underwhelming. Overpriced. The server was very inattentive and tried way too hard to be cutesy and joke around.

Across there world there are to be found certain colloquialisms and it is these regionalisms which evoke the spirit of the place. Regretfully, Mexican is not spoken, cooked, nor seen in Pensacola. The fare you can expect at this establishment is the pale assertion of a cuisine without any fluency. Like a student of the first semester of foreign language class, one can immediate pick out the visitor as they mumble over even banal phrasings such Good Evening or in this case American-Mexican cuisine such as Quesadilla Chimichanga. The food is a striking combination of the most dumbed down ethnic food I believe I have ever encountered. Safe, easy, not terribly well executed, my rice and beans should have been used for a food photo session, they were never meant to be eaten. Hell they weren't even hot. Albeit, the staff was courteous and genial, I didn't go there to have a beer with the waiter. I would say so vanilla is the attempt at Mexican that it really isn't bad; one could survive, hell, even be healthy on the diet. Not good nor bad, only a corporatized soulless shadow of food and thus, a waste of money and calories.

The hubs and I just ate at Cactus Cantina and I will say the food was very good. They serve fresh chips and salsa right when you're seated like any other Mexican restaurant we did not get any appetizers I started off with the Rainbow Margarita (frozen, no salt/sugar). Just to warn you it only comes in one size and that it is large, like enough for two people. For my entree I got the Texas burrito which consists of chicken, steak and shrimp in a flour tortilla with Mexican rice and refried beans. My husband got the Enchilada Supreme with Mexican rice and refried beans. The portion sizes are huge and the price is pretty good considering the amount of food your getting. The only thing that kept me from giving the Cactus Cantina 5 stars was the fact that they were playing country music at a Mexican restaurant and we did not see not one Hispanic person in the entire place! My husband and I are from northern VA and we've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants including restaurants in Cali and the atmosphere was more authentic than it was here. I'm not saying it's not a good place to eat because the food alone is great, however if you are looking for the atmosphere to go with the food this is not the place, sorry!

This Mexican restaurant just opened and we wanted to try it out. Typical Mexican menu. When the waitress came to give us our chips and dip, the chips were crumbled up into small pieces like someone punched the bag and then emptied it into a basket. They were also greasy. The salsa was fresh and spicy which was good. I ordered the fish taco. It came with unseasoned fish with a slice of avocado on top along with rice and beans on the side. I will say that it also came with pico and tartar sauce in the side. I've never had a Mexican restaurant give me tarter sauce, but oh well. It needed it because the fish was so tasteless. Not even salt! The avocado was fresh at least. The beans were good, but it's not a place I would return. We just wanted to try it out and were a little disappointed. There are plenty of Mexican restaurants in the area that are cheaper so I expected a little more.

Originally 2 stars, but the next day my wife and I were not feeling good at all (stomach issues) that lasted most of the day. I can only attribute this to the food the night prior. We normally do not have problems with Mexican food (eat at Vallartas and Rio Bravo regularly) and have not had any of these issues in the past. I will definitely not be back.

My dad and mom were here not too long ago and decided it would be a nice place to have our work Christmas party. There were 13 of us total. We were able to do call ahead (thanks Daisy!) and they were able to seat us quickly. Brian was our waiter and he was fantastic! He stayed on top of keeping our drinks full and making sure we had everything we needed! Including a little extra room for all of us! The food came out in a timely manner and was excellent! Great proportions for the price! I say give this place a shot!! I don't think you'll be sorry!

This seemed like a nice place. The chips and salsa were okay. I ordered hard shell tacos and got soft shell (ate it anyway). The margarita was okay but seemed a little more icee and a little less tequila than what I like for $10. I did like that they had the American version of "football" on the TVs instead of soccer as in some of the other places I like.

Same basic Mexican food but double the price. Save your money and enjoy a better meal at Rio Bravo

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
