High Blood Pressure at Applebee's
Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

My wife and I went here on the night of December 27th, 2014, and we won't be returning. Our experience necessitated this review. Our waitress, Kylie (sp?), was nice and friendly, however not well prepared. Our ENTIRE experience would have been a decent one had she done one very simple, stupid little step -- write down our order. Literally, the only thing that was done correctly was she brought the correct drinks (not very quickly, mind you), and refilled them with the correct drinks. Here was our order: -Triple Bacon Burger & the bottomless sweet potato fries (I requested the burger be pink when she asked my preference) -Original Burger (my wife's order), with a salad (she requested there be NO pink on her burger). After my wife ordered, she was asked about whether she'd like the salad brought first -- she said YES she would, AND we went as far as to tell her we were starving and hadn't ate in a long time. After finishing her order, but before starting on our son's, the waitress began to walk off instead of asking if we wanted anything else. To be clear -- we were not at any point in time rude, we brushed it off and just wanted dinner. -Kids little burger & applesauce instead of fries for our son. The waitress asked if we'd like the 2 burger meal or the 1 burger meal, my wife instructed the 1 burger meal. Going chronologically, I'll discuss each order in the way I listed them. The triple bacon burger was very well done; no pink. The fries were not the bottomless sweet potato fries; they were regular fries. I did specify I wanted the sweet potato fries. My wife's burger came pink, and the salad arrived at the same time as the burger. When delivering the salad, the waitress stated "Oh...this was supposed to come out first, but oh well, here you go." We sent it back, because the whole point of the salad in the first place was for her to have something to eat before the burger came out due to how hungry we were. For our son, we received the two burger meal & french fries, and the buns on both burgers were scorched. We hadn't been to an Applebee's in about 3-4 years and couldn't remember why. The thing that brought us in that day was my suggestion, because I wanted to try the triple bacon burger. I made it halfway through my burger before it dawned on me to have my wife check her's (since mine had no pink) to find out her's was pink in the center. She ate the rest of my burger and one of our son's little burgers (since we only wanted 1 but they brought 2). We did send the little burger buns back since they were so burnt, but just grumbled at the rest, and asked for applesauce. We didn't want to wait for the correct items, we shouldn't have had to. Something as simple as writing down an order and verifying it before bringing it out could have saved our perception. We paid cash, and did not tip. We also won't be returning. I couldn't enjoy the very thing I came for because it wasn't how I ordered, and had to give it to my wife to fix her order. The food quality wasn't great either, BUT it was good enough that we wouldn't have felt so bad about paying $32.00 for such terrible service.

Food is ok. Evening atmosphere a little bright. Decent service. Reasonable pricing with specials.

Ok this is a mando late, but better late than never to publish! So to keep it wanton crispy and short, if you want an unobtrusive waitress ask for Kat - she will card anyone under 65 as well as forget to take your food order after taking your drink orders. If you want to eat - flag her down, use a blow horn or have a friend go with you who has Tourette's to get her attention, otherwise you will just sit at your table chewing on ice like it's the appetizer! Overall the staff at this establishment seem unenthusiastic and unmotivated to be at work, and like they needed a B12 shots or a hug. On the upside my food was delicious - will probably opt for carry out next time.

Came here for lunch. Excited to see the new renovations. Layout is more open. We sat at the bar. Clientele included plenty of elderly and employees from Sacred Heart. Food was below average. My french onion soup was extremely salty. The cajun shrimp pasta tasted like it was just warmed up in the microwave. The noodles were overcooked and the sauce was coagulated. I will not be returning.
(2)Richard C.
I really like their two for twenty meals. The 7 oz. steak is very good!
(4)Derek H.
Great value. Excellent staff. Currently closed as they are under a 100% renovation. This particular location has strong management. Looking forward to the re-opening.

Great food and service. They treated our family of six great. Really appreciated that. All of our meals tasted great. We'll definitely be back.

This is my go to place for dinner if I can't decide any other place to eat. I always get my standard quesadilla burger, regular fries and a drink off the 2 for $20 menu I split with my friends. The quesadilla burger is always on point and that menu item gets 5 stars. Unfortunately, this review won't be getting 5 stars. The waiters and waitresses are always working hard especially during the restaurant's peak hours as I type this out and observe the situation. Long story short, the reason I'm typing my first yelp review ever was a little situation that happened casually sitting at the bar watching the Georgia game then someone switched three of the TV's that had football on it to the LSU game. My friend and I asked a *rude* (soon found out that he's a manager here!) Worker "may we have another tv play the Georgia game because the hanging wine glasses are in the way and we can't see the tv at all", no matter how far we leaned over. He replied very rudely with a snotty attitude saying "it's already playing on the speakers and it's playing right there." After explaining again saying the hanging wine glasses are in the way blocking the entire tv and three TV's are playing the LSU game "may we have that tv over there play the Georgia game please." Then he replies sounding like a smart ass "the speakers are playing it" and walked off. I believe his name was Lione and if I see him inside the building you can count on me turning around and going to olive garden across the street where the *managers* are very helpful, kind, and they go around asking you if you enjoy your meal and they are more than willing to make you a happy customer. Might as well do the food review also. My friend and I ordered the Standard American Burger, endless fries and a drink. I'm quite the burger enthusiast if I do say so myself. The beverage is a beverage, Dr. Pepper generally always taste the same and the fries were delicious. Now for the burger itself. We received our food and started to munch down. So I took the first bite I noticed how soft and gushy the meat was and the amount of grease running down my hand and dripping out. I had to squeeze my burger to get a lot of excessive grease out of it. I couldn't finish it due to the fact it was 50% grease. In conclusion, I learned to stick with the quesadilla burger rather than venturing off trying new items. Don't get me wrong on my review, this is a good place to go eat with some friends and for the most part waiters and waitresses are great but don't expect much from the manager because his attitude can ruin a great day. Just remember, this was the first time I had a bad food experience here so don't let this review make you have second thoughts eating here.

Generally, I enjoy Applebee's and I haven't found other places that can make a steak as good on a consistent basis. Their 2 for $20 is a good value. Service is okay for the most part, but that can vary on the server. Kids portions are somewhat on the small size, especially for older kids that still qualify for the kids meals. Steph (I think) is one of the best servers at the Brent/9th Ave location.
(4)Mari G.
I haven't been here since it was rebuilt and decided to give it a try. We were seated right away. Though they acted like we were weird for waiting for the entire party to get there before wanting to be seated. Kept telling them they weren't too far behind. The waiter rushed us through ordering, eating, and paying. But I don't really think he meant to. Like, he'd check in with us to see what we needed, if anything, but then he'd mention the next step as if he wanted to get there already. I don't know. I drank their berry sangria. Yummy! Their tortilla soup is delish. Hubby had a roast beef sandwich thing that he liked. Nothing extraordinarily good, but nothing bad either. If you're looking for a nice, cheap place with decent food and tolerance for kids, go here.

I ordered a carry out tonight and was really looking forward to my delicious meal. unfortunately, when i arrived to the establishment it was clear the staff didn't know what was going on with my order. I sat at the bar for a few minutes, the bartender told me a carry out girl would help me. after waiting a few more minutes, I decided to head over to the curbside stand. the manager (Scott) was there along with two other young ladies. i simply asked if they had an order for me, and stated my name. Scott rudely replied that he has "5,000 orders, what is your name". Fortunately, Scott's carryout girls are much more pleasant and they helped me right away. When i got home, the disappointment continued. My carryout was THROWN together as if this establishment did not appreciate my business. my salad was about 95% lettuce, barely any toppings to be able to call it a "salad". My pasta had barely any sauce, very very little chicken (about 1 oz), and no vegetables. It was not enjoyable. The bread sticks were cold and a stale. Thankfully my won ton tacos were edible, or else my wife and i would've have gone hungry. I work in the service industry, so i understand a restaurant can get busy, and things happen. But because Applebees is a corporation, you wouldn't expect to be disappointed. I discovered the manager is extremely unprofessional, and clearly the kitchen staff needs a lot bit more training. These are the things that will keep people away from a restaurant. I should've just cooked dinner on my own.
(1)Kate C.
The place was packed for lunch, the waitress was a total space cadet. My meal was alright but they gave me the wrong sauce for a blondie. I was NOT happy about that. This is the worst Applebee's I have been to.
(2)Ms B.
We decided to try the newly reopened Applebee's. Went a little after lunch, but it was still busy. We were seated rather quickly, but it took awhile for the waitress to come over to get our drink order, but like I said, it was busy so we let it pass. My husband and I got the 2 for $20. It was ok. If you want a step up from fast food, then this is your place. Atmosphere is modern and improved, but food is the same.
(2)Song N.
My bf and I decided to try the newly rebuilt Applebee's. We were greeted immediately as we walked in the door and were led to a table. The servers were very attentive and nice. I ordered a mango frozen lemonade which wasn't very good. I enjoyed the chipotle steak and shrimp though. The sauce made it absolutely delicious. I didn't expect such good steak from a chain restaurant. My bf and I shared a blue ribbon brownie with ice cream. It was very good. The service was great, and I enjoyed the food. I will definitely be coming back sometime.

okaaaaaaaaaaaay, so Im reviewing an Applebee's, Anthony Bourdain would be sooo disappointed with me .. Im only reviewing it because of their 2 for $20 deal.. which I would have given 4 stars because of the price and value, but to keep from being black listed by the food community and not considered a total sell out, I had to do a 3 star... We did curbside service after a day of coming back from being at the beach all day, I was hungry, wasnt feeling like cooking, didnt want fast food, but also didnt want to go inside of a restaurant looking like I was rolling in sugar all day.. we got the mozzarella sticks appetizer, I got the 3 cheese penne pasta with chicken which was really good, and my friend got the chicken finger basket.. the food was actually good..
