Very good barbecue. The ribs was pretty tasty and the meat was tender. Loved the service. Also ordered the 3 meat special with chicken, pulled pork, and ribs along with three sides for an affordable price. I would definitely go again.

I am praying that they open one up in Cleveland. Just absolutely amazing and the all you can eat was a perfect price. The service was darn good and they had great recommendations for me.

My father and I used to come here when I was a kid. Before I was old enough to realize he was a cheap bastard [love you, pops!]. I used to think this place was AWESOME. Though you could attribute that to my 9 year old obsession with salad bars and a not-yet-developed taste buds. My fiancé and I came here one night as I had raved about the salad bar and the BBQ every time we passed it on 231. The waitress was rude [probably not there any longer as this was longer than 3 years ago]. So rude that I almost thought I was on a prank TV show. Lazy hostess who snarked at us to find our own table. Oookaaay? So we found a table we liked and sat down. Since I had it in my head that the salad bar was the bee's knee's, I ordered that. What I got was strange tasting [and i LIVE for strange tasting things. hello, i've eaten crickets and enjoyed it]. But then after tasting a few things at the salad bar I realized that it was absolutely disgusting. Not to mention I spied that most of their stuff was CANNED and then dumped into vats for your "dining pleasure". My fiancé got some meat plate that I think was a selection of a different type of items and every single one of them were dry and tough; leaving us prying what seemed to be BBQ'd jerky out of our teeth for the next 6 hours. I think the only reason it is still around is that is, for some reason, deemed a Bay County institution. Will never come back.

It has been about four years since we have been at Smitty's and we have always considered their barbecue mediocre, among the worse in town. Some things never change, and management is still mediocre at best as well. Even Sonny's is better, with Outlaw's Barbecue and Salty's Sues (on the beach) is the best in the area. Smitty's just lacks the smoked wood taste of the best barbecue. And for shame!! The hostess is not aware at all of service dog laws, remedial training is in order for her and the manager, who came out and asked if Finnegan could wait outside! The more appropriate action would be to ask if a dog is a service animal FIRST, then proceed from there. Remedial training is required by law for all restaurant personnel and is highly recommended for this establishment, one of only two in Bay County that has been very lacking in this area. The American Disability Act, administered by the Department of Justice, can heavily fine businesses as much as $15,000 for inappropriate handling of service dogs!! The pulled pork barbecue is among the worse that we have ever eaten in over 50 barbecue establishments across the U.S. and Canada in the past few years; without any smokey taste or any taste whatsoever for that matter. Portions of the pulled pork were also a bit small as well. The barbecue chicken was average as were the french fries. The Brunswick stew, however, is among the best that we have every had and was very tasty!! The key lime pie was above average. The service is fairly good with the exception of the service dog problem. We will rewrite this review on a return visit, especially if they show on that visit that they can now appropriately deal with service dogs; but there is a whole lot of room for improvement in the taste department for their food!!

First off, Mellisa L.: using paraphernalia to describe the interior of a restaurant might work based on it's original meaning but these days drugs dominate the definition of the word so memorabilia would've been a smarter choice. My personal opinion, that's all. About the actual restaurant now... it was awesome. I might be biased since I'm a member of the USAF and inside Smitty's it was full of pictures, small-scale airplanes, pretty much everything to do with the Air Force was all over the walls and hanging from the ceilings. The food exceeded any/all expectations. A few people in our group had gone to Smitty's previously during a business trip and suggested we all go there. (I was hesitant about the choice only because sentimental picks from memory are sometimes exaggerated.) As you can see in the pictures I posted, I had Pulled Pork, Sweet Potatoes, Coleslaw, and a slice of Texas Toast. The Pulled Pork was cooked perfectly and the Sweet Potatoes were mouth-watering--I had a second side of them. Great overall experience, can't wait until I'm able to go on another business or personal trip back to the area just for Smitty's.

Sonny's is always good but Lynn Haven's Sonny's is wonderful. Eat there about once a week and never disappoints. My favorite is the baby back ribs first with the turkey a close second. Salad bar looks good but I haven't tried it.

I ate here for the first time and had the salad bar for lunch. By far, the best salad bar I have seen in this area. Price was very reasonable. Also the owner and servers are very nice and personable! I will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant.

That was probably the best meal I have had in Panama City this week. I could tell as soon as we walked in and smelled the smoke we were in the right place. Had the pulled pork and the turkey and both were tender and tasty. I did find it a little odd the meat was sliced off deli style into thin strips. I'm used to a chunkier pulled pork. And the selection of sauces you can use leaves you wondering where to start. Nice steak fries too. The only complaint is the skimpy portion of green beans. I like my green beans.

Good BBQ. Portions were a little smaller than I expected for the price (sandwich at lunch). The seating area is roomy and the airplanes hanging on the ceiling make for great viewing while waiting for your food. A good dining experience, try it!
(4)Josh H.
Great Q! You have to try the fried corn! Fantastic! The prices are a litlte high, but most BBQ places are now a days anyway!
(4)Ashley S.
We have been here a few times and love it. We love the BBQ and great atmosphere. I think they have a good thing going. I had the ribs and a salad. The ribs were yummy and service was great.

Again, barbecue is barbecue... It would really take something fantastic or different to impress me with barbecue! This, for me, is just average. The atmosphere is what is interesting here. The whole restaurant is covered in airplanes (there is even one outside that looks as if it crashed into the roof). This is especially fascinating for the kids! The salad bar is smaller than the one at Sonny's Real Pit Barbecue, and a bit overpriced in my opinion. My husband prefers Smitty's over Sonny's. Both are just "okay" in my book.

Prices were decent. I had the sliced pork and beef, which were both pretty good. Friendly staff and quick service. I would definitely come back again.

No nonsense barbecue but I opted to go for the white meat chicken plate. I also had the salad bar to start and I probably should have checked it out first. A little limited, but it had the usual favorites including sliced beets and chopped eggs and bits of bacon and ham. Not exactly a healthy salad, but it's what you choose. My two quarter chickens (white meat) arrived not much later. Not much sauce on them, but they were surprisingly moist and flavorful. I put a bit of sauce on them just to try the sauces, but they really didn't need it. For sides, I had the "Aunt Bea's Potato Salad" and that was excellent. Nice pieces of potato and very moist, quite nice texture. The baked beans were very meaty and quite gloopy (is gloopy a descriptive word) and rich. Overall, quite inexpensive as BBQ tends to be. Enjoyable experience. Not a "date night" kind of place, but as a "family night", excellent.

A well known landmark and iconic military aviation decor. Good BBQ but consistency is sometimes an issue here... So only 3 stars. Dried out BBQ is a cardinal sin.
(3)Dorothy B.
This I the best barbecue chicken restaurant I've ever had. I'm not a barbecue person but the chicken is the best.

After reading the reviews I figured I'd give this place a shot. While I was not disappointed I was not overly impressed. However, this is a good place for those who enjoy a decent bbq. I'm sure I will go back on another day at some point as Sunday more than likely isn't their strong point. The portions are decent for the price and filling. Certain seating areas echo more than others and noise was a factor. The place is clean and the food served hot.
(4)Lori M.
They had great food and several bbq sauces to choose from. The atmosphere is very pro - military which is great for us. There are a variety of meats and sides. They even have an all you can eat option where you choose the meat and can have as much of that and sides as you like. The staff is friendly as well.

Stopped by Smitty's last week with my wife for lunch. We both love bbq very much and due to the fact I worked in a small town bbq shack my whole teenage life and enjoyed it very much it holds a dear spot in my heart. Anytime we travel the first restaurants we try out are bbq. Now our experience at Smitty's was less than pleasant. First we walked it to an almost empty building. After standing at the door for nearly 10 minutes with no one greeting us, we were finally acknowledged. Then we were told it would be a while before we could be seated because a table had to be cleaned. There were only 4 tables with customers in them. Not sure why but at least we got a clean table I guess. Our waitress quickly got our drinks and our order which was great. I ordered the all you can eat pork and my wife ordered the pork sandwich and fries. The reason I ordered the all you can eat is because you can change up your sides and since this was our first experience at Smitty's I wanted to try a little of everything. The bbq pork was bland and tasteless. The Brunswick stew was loaded with grease and bland as well. Baked beans were ok but nothing special. Now to end on a positive note the salad bar is awesome! It has everything you could want to put on a salad and then some. The coleslaw and fried okra were also good and our waitress did great making sure we were ok. She even asked each time she took away a side if I enjoyed it and if not why. I felt like my input was valued. The atmosphere was neat with planes and jets hanging from the ceiling and plane related models and pictures on the walls. Had a proud hometown feel being that its pretty close to tyndall afb. I will probably try Smitty's again even if its only for that amazing salad bar. Just dont expect much in the bbq department.

Oh my goodness! Carolina BBQ and Georgia sweet tea with southern style coleslaw - you know, the kind that the cabbage and carrots are grated fine and the dressing is creamy, but not overwhelming. I decided on the 2 meat combo and I could go on and on about the ribs and the pulled chicken, but I was way too busy stuffing my face with BBQ, coleslaw, and the baked sweet potato to go on and on. I was too full for dessert. Too bad this place is so far from my humble abode...

Smitty's catered a meal during the Warrior Beach Retreat. The hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. All of the food tasted as if it came straight out of the kitchen. The BBQ chicken was breast meat chopped either in a whole or half breast, giving the option of portion control. The meat was fresh and flavorful, yet not overpowering. The Texas toast was seasoned served perfectly done. The sweat BBQ sauce was delicious and fellow warriors were trying to figure how much they could pack in their luggage for the return flight home.

Great service and CLEAN! That's hard to find in Panama City. No disrespect, but with the humidity, keeping things from being sticky and smelly must be hard for restaurants. The meat is nicely smoked and stands on its own without the BBQ sauce, which is sweet and mild. The meat isn't dried out and doesn't taste like it spent a day on a burning tree stump. I've eaten a lot of BBQ in KC and Memphis and this is not disappointing. The sides weren't great, but they weren't the centerpiece of the meal. I'd recommend this for a good meal served by a great wait staff.

My wife and I live on Panama City Beach, but when we want barbecue we make the 15 mile trip to Smitty's in Panama City. The baby back ribs are the best I've ever had, bar none. Great portions and sauces, always cooked to perfection with delicious pork falling off the bone. A few minor points distract somewhat. Would prefer a larger draft beer selection and the plates for the salad bar are small. However, Smitty's still ranks 5 stars.

A Panama City classic. Great military aviation theme to accompany great BBQ and friendly service.

I went to Smittys a few weeks ago and received horrible service and was given wrong food. The server gave me and my friend a coupon for free meal. Today I went to redeem the coupons and had to argue with the manager about it for 20 mins because the coupons weren't signed. He accused me of taking them from the dinning room. I finally got the food and I was very disappointed. The bread on my pulled pork sandwich was so soggy I couldn't hold it. And fries were old. I do not ever recommend anyone to eat here.

My expectations going in weren't very high, but I was expecting some decent BBQ. I just left hungry and annoyed. This place was way overpriced for how small the portions were and how poor the quality was. I ordered the 2 meat plate ($11.99)and added the half slab or ribs ($7.99 more). Brisket: Cut paper thin and reheated on the grill like strips of bacon. They were greasy and just disappointing. Pulled Pork: Needed BBQ sauce because it seems to have been kept warm in water or something flavorless. Ribs: Tiny ribs that had a minimal amount of meat. For a $20 at a BBQ restaurant, I would have expected to get a LOT of meat. Instead, I received an extremely small portion of substandard food. I honestly feel taken advantage of...and I'm still hungry. Where's the pride in you food?
(1)Bill P.
Order the all you can eat, because everything else is a rip off. I ordered a 2 meat plate for $13 and what I got was a 3 bites of pulled pork and a few ounces of chicken meat. I've never left a BBQ place still starving until now.

Great BBQ and Salad Bar BBQ Chicken is delicious. All their sauces are terrific..the sweet is my favorite HUGE selection of toppings available at the salad bar. Great place to take a client during lunch Staff is extremely polite. It's pricey BUT quality food..

Just a little quaint barbecue joint that you would miss if you weren't looking for it on a busy road. We love the pork, I always get the all-you-can-eat and I never leave hungry! If the fighter jocks are in town and either of the Air Force bases it is a colorful crowd that will delight the kids. We've always had good food and good service here and enjoy it every year we travel to Panama City.

We were looking for BBQ at the beach and found it at Smitty's. Food and service were excellent. Staff was real friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience.

Today I ordered take out, but I've dined in before. Their take out is quick. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. I've had the BBQ chicken, ribs and pulled pork on garlic. They've all been delicious and I recommended either. I've enjoyed their coleslaw, BBQ beans and fried corn too.

"I can smell you!". I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. It smelled just right when I walked outside. I Yelped it and asked about it. I was told that was Applesleeze I smelt. I disagreed. I was on the hunt. It's called Smitty's not Drive through! I say that because on an iPod Touch, all I got was part of the name...Yelp Mobile. Ribs were dry but chicken was dead on. Love the mustard sauce. They best were the beans and the brunswick stew.
(3)Mellisa L.
This place has a cool atmosphere, with the military paraphernalia all over the walls and ceiling. The BBQ chicken was awesome, as were the baked beans (I love baked beans, and these were in my top 3 fave!) But as usual my husband didn't really care for his meal, (Au Jus/French dip sandwich thing) seems to be a running problem...
(4)Matthew F.
First time ever there! Had the all you can eat chicken and ribs! Open your mind a little and try all the sauces. The chicken sauce went great with the fries. Also was very pleased with the baked beans probably close to the best beans I've ever had!
