Great food large portions and fast service. We had the grilled crab cakes shrimp with different sides.

Shared the senior platter of grilled grouper, shrimp, scallops, crab legs and all these were just great. The hush puppy was tasty and just the right crispiness. The crab cake was very mushy and tasted more of mayonaise than crab. It was 11:30 and there were few folks there and waitress came over right away for our order. She was the only one working the floor so those that came in later were not as lucky to be helped so quickly I noticed. She was working hard and fast, but there needs to be more wait staff for lunch. The place has been repainted and looks sharp.

We've been a fan of Coastal for a few years - since the first time we ate there. Good local seafood, fried well, with pretty good southern sides. Friday we did a coastal drive to Carrabelle, and decided to do Coastal for lunch. It was a bit after the lunch rush, around 1:40 in the afternoon. Two ladies were at outside the restaurant having a smoke, and one was braiding the others hair. Why is that important? Well... ...we went inside and took a seat at one of the only clean tables. The dining room wasn't near fill - we were the sixth table. Only one customer had food, perhaps a sign? Now I know the staff saw us because we exchanged pleasantries, so the 10 minute wait for a server was excruciatingly long. Still, it's not NYC so service can be, well, casual. But remember that good seafood... Our server arrived smiling and apologizing for the wait. Perhaps she had to finish the braid (the two servers were the ladies from outside). But a smile can go a long way. And remember that good seafood... My wife ordered the fried shrimp dinner with greens and cheese grits. Being the Fat Guy, I ordered all you can eat shrimp with cukes and onions and cole slaw. Of the food we ordered, everything was pre-made and just had to be plated and served. Only the shrimp needed to be battered and dropped. The wait for food approached the twenty minute mark and I was getting ready to cry uncle, pay for my drinks and leave. But remember that good seafood... Of the people in the dining room, we were the last to order, so when food started coming out to their tables I saw a ray of hope. Our order arrived, and in we dug. Ah, those shrimp. Piping hot and lightly battered, fried perfectly too long and with a bit of rubbery snap. My wife declared hers excellent, and indeed the flavor was darned good, but when all you do is fried seafood, my expectation is that it will be done right. A minor thing, I guess, or maybe I set my standards too high. To be sure I liked that these shrimp(s?) had none of the iodine flavor that I notice in foreign harvested shrimp. The sides - cole slaw was better than average, but mine benefited from a splash of pepper vinegar to cut the sweetness a bit. Greens - who in the south cooks unseasoned greens. No salt, no smokiness from ham hocks, nothing. Not the worst I've ever had, but certainly near the bottom. Cucumber and onion - almost lacking onion, thick slices of cucumber, a bit of vinegar and a tad too salty. Not one I'd reorder. Cheese grits - fried seafood and cheese grits are a great southern match. But cheese grits held way too long have the consistency of wall paper paste. When I went to wash my hands, I did notice that on every table with cheese grits, they looked barely touched. I should have warned my wife. Not sure if this lunch was worth the $35 tab (less tip). Would we go again? Not likely at this point, especially since Angelo and Sons has a new place - Tropical Shrimp Company - nearby. Too bad because with a tune up on dining room service and a bit of care in the kitchen, Coastal could be a booming gold mine.

Went by for breakfast on the way back from the beach. Was hesitant to do so because the last time we were there the service was awful and the food wasn't as good as in the past. Big mistake giving them another shot. Sat down and 10 minutes later no one had even acknowledged us. No drink order let alone menus were brought to us. Unbelievable! Never go there again,

Having lived in the area since the late 1990s, we've eaten at the Coastal many times, breakfast, dinner and supper - and all are good. We love the breakfast of biscuits and gravy - so good. I like mine with a couple of eggs over-easy placed right on top. YUM!!!! The last time we were there was for supper a few weeks ago and they were very busy; the sole waitress explained to everyone who came in that service would be a bit slow (and why) and all understood. We had the fried oysters, Cole slaw and cheese grits, the economy-size portion which is in itself huge; everything is freshly prepared. They were so busy, the cook had to bring us our plates!!. All was great as usual. The oysters had light breading which didn't take away from the flavor. Although there are several other seafood places in the area, their only advantage is that they serve alcohol and The Coastal does not. For some that's a draw back but for The Coastal, the abundance of goodness makes up for that small drawback. We've never had a bad meal at The Coastal.

There are slim pickings for this area, so give yourself some spare time when you eat at the Coastal. If not busy, service can be slow. If very busy, order an app & bring a card game. This isn't a 5 star service place. The food is good, but it is almost all fried. On a strict diet? Good luck. The hushpups are awesome. I've never had a terrible meal here, just service as slow as molasses on a winter morning. But you came to relax...right?!!

We had the Coastal Platter for 2 which included fish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, clams, claws, devil crab cakes, coleslaw and hush puppies for around $30.00. We also ordered cheese grits. The food was outstanding, fresh tasting and enough food to satisfy our appetite! I'm giving them 4 stars because the service was not that great. Besides us two, there were 3 or 4 tables with customers. It took a while for our food to come out. The waitress seemed a little irritated when I asked her questions and she rarely checked back with us. It was a rainy day so they were slow. Other than that I would recommend this place if you want good seafood!

Coastal Seafood says it all. This is classic, no frills, fresh fried seafood. These folks do it as we'll or better than anybody else here on the forgotten coast. You don't come here for upscale decor or white tablecloth service. You come for delicately battered seafood that you can tell comes from the Gulf, and not a fish farm. Yes they broil it too, great choice of side items, and the portions are large enough that you can take some home for lunch the next day. For those who didn't enjoy the crab -- remember this is deviled crab, which means its more like the crab stuffing you get in other dishes. It's not jumbo lump crab cake, and its not advertised as such. I think the cocktail sauce could use some improvement. Everything else I've had is great.

What a find. Don't be out off by the whipped spread pods on the table. This place had the best damned cheese grits I have ever had. Good strong coffee and great flapjacks.

We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. People that arrived 20 minutes after us for us got their food within 10 minutes. We asked another waitress to check on our order as our waitress was bringing out food out. When I told her that others that had arrived long after us were already served, she said that she had another table to serve and she was at the register. Was treated very rudely! Then, we had to wait to pay! Food: hubby had all you can eat shrimp which came with two sides- cheese grits and cole slaw. The slaw was very good with the right amount of creamy without being mushy. Cheese grits were just OK. His first order of shrimp looked good but were not hot because they sat. His second order came out promptly and hot with a light batter. I had a platter with grouper, shrimp, oysters, scallops and crab cake which came with hush puppies and two sides- fried okra and cheese grits. My fish was good but forgettable. Shrimp were ok but mine were a bit greasy as were the hush puppies (good flavor and texture - just greasy). The crab cake had a bit of Tabasco - ok flavor but again - greasy. The oysters were overdone and chewy. The bill for 2 lunches and two teas was $31. If I ever come here again - (which i doubt since Posey's is right down the road) I'm getting the crab claws. Next time, I'll go to Posey's.

Classic dive- good size portions and fresh seafood. Three of us could not finish the combo seafood plate that was meant to be for 2 people! Shrimp, grouper, oysters were great. " Deviled Crab" was terrible and the crab claws were not memorable. Skip the potato salad- more like mayo soup. Cole slaw, hush puppies, cucumbers/onions, all good. Lots of ice tea to wash it down! Enjoy- they even accept credit cards!

This place looks like a hole in the wall. If you're not careful, you'll drive right by the place. Since we were so close to the coast and it was recommended, I tried the seafood. A combination plate comprised of fried grouper, oysters, scallops, shrimp, and a crab cake. The grouper and shrimp were excellent. The crab cake was a mushy cake of blahh. There was practically no crab in the thing. I got cheese grits as a side which were good. The hushpuppies were good. There aren't many places on you way to whereever that road leads, but if you're on that road to nowhere, stop and eat at Coastal.

Used to be a favorite of mine, but it seems like every time we go, the customer service goes down one more little notch. Instructing the wait staff to smile and look like they want to be there and appreciate your business would be great. Food is still great though. I do appreciate the smaller portions menu.

Excellent seafood and Southern favorites. Portions are huge! Atmosphere is quaint and homey, nothing fancy. They offer everyday all you can eat items. They offer items grilled, broiled and blackened.

This used to be my fav hometown restaurant, but in recent years something has happened to the superb quality. Just wasn't as good the last few times we had eaten there.
