This was a wonderful place to stop for lunch. We both had the Bento box lunch special which includes a choice of salad or Miso soup, which I found to have real body and flavor to it. I am not a Sushi snob or expert but was very pleased with the sushi combo which included California roll and 7 pieces of nigiri. My wife had the Hosomaki Combo which includes California roll, hot tuna sandwich and salmon roll. The hot tuna was four large pieces of chopped spicy tuna with the "bread" made of formed rice, and really delicious. It's so exceptional to have fresh made sushi with portion sizes (never counted them, see picture) that are so large it's a challenge to finish, and all for $12.00. We loved our lunch.

Went here tonight for dinner with a friend. We had the spicy beef salad which was delicious. It was very light but the cashews made it even better. I had the chicken stir-fry with the Ginger sauce. It was very yummy! I love spicy, and the level 3 was pretty hot! The sushi looked good from what I saw and will go back soon to try it. The house wine is very good too. The decor inside was way cuter than I thought it would be. Very good service! Will go back soon!

Here on vacation and did a yelp search for sushi and found sushi Yama! Great reviews so decided to check it out. This place does sushi RIGHT! Fresh fish and rice is perfect! I went in a group of 4 and we split a bunch of rolls and some apps--shrimp tempura, JB roll, tuna sandwich, and lobster bomb. Everything was so delectable and delicious. The sushi chefs really know what they are doing and put out an amazing product. On top of the awesome food the service was great, food came out fast and waiter and staff was fun and attentive :)

The sushi here is awesome and affordable! This place is my family's regular sushi spot. The bento lunch specials are such a good deal and tasty.

Great place for sushi and Asian cusine. I generally feel as though I have high standards in regards to sushi and everything I have ordered from here has been on point. I've come 5 times so far and will return again

This place will suffice if you are looking to satisfy your sushi craving, and at a reasonable price with large portions, but let's call it what it is: average sushi. The kenji soup with shrimp dumplings is pretty excellent, probably the best part of the meal. The broth is light golden in color and rich in flavor with shrimp shumai and veggies. We split the sushi mori for two, which comes with 18 pieces of sushi, a California roll, and a "hot tuna sandwich." I'll give this place creativity points on the tuna sandwich, but at the end of the day it's just a spicy tuna roll put together differently. This is a great deal, for sure, at under $40. We also had a shrimp tempura roll. This ended up being a ton of food and we took half of it home. In general, I found it all to be kind of bland. The rice was not really seasoned; no vinegar to be tasted. The salmon was kind of flavorless as well and missing that richness you expect. Service here is friendly and attentive. Prices are cheap and portions are large. Just don't expect to leave here saying it's the world's best sushi.

I got the american dream roll and it was delicious. The pieces were big and fresh. The ambience of the place is beautiful, love the decoration, furniture and music. I came to a 5-day workshop at the double tree hilton hotel located in front of sushi yama and came four days in a row to eat here!

I was very impressed with this sushi spot. Very clean, nice Art Deco in white. The staff is friendly. I love sitting at the sushi bar. Great lunch specials. So yummy.

Absolutely love this place. They take care of me! I can't wait until the next time I go. I only have a few check ins. However, I go once a week!

This place is consistently good. Usually start with the green salad with ginger dressing. This visit i had the spicy salmon roll and rainbow roll, both very good. Service had always been great, i usually go early before the rush. I will say the man next to me at the bar ordered the uni, which looked terrific. ..Next time!

  • Diane S.

really really good. Came for lunch, reasonable priced menu. We of course ordererd the lobster special which comes all fancy with lobster tempura pieces in a martini glass above the lobster tempura roll that is bigger than my mouth. beautiful presentation. We also had a naruto style tuna roll - good quality fish. I had ordered the grouper too - never had that before, it is very sweet and tender. Must be a local thing - I've never seen it offered in NY. The 'scallop' we orderd was not scallop - it was chewey and just not way I like - I think the waitress may have misunderstood, I think it was giant clam. Beside that error - the place is beautiful - the staff attentive and I left happy !

On our way to a Chinese place for our traditional Christmas Day meal after the movies, we stopped here instead and had a great experience sitting at the bar wolfing down sushi of various types. The dining surprise was Happy Pancake. Never had anything like that before and it was yummy.

Big fans. One of the more expensive sushi restaurants in the area but they are super nice and accommodating. The food is good and I LOVE the hot towels they give you. Great ambiance. We dine here often. Wish they delivered also but u can't have it all. My daughter is obsessed with the seaweed salad here. So fresh! I rotate all the rolls and never been disappointed

  • Timothy W.

I'm not a big sushi eater but agreed to go here with friends who are. In addition to the raw fish offerings there are excellent rolls with cooked ingredients, curry dishes, fried rice and more. The Lobster Bomb is not to be missed. I've never had a bad meal or experience here and would recommend it highly.

POOR CONCERN FOR REPORT OF FOOD POISONING! A few days ago, I would have given this 5 stars.... have been there twice since discovering it a few weeks ago, and both times was thoroughly impressed with the food, service, ambiance, and prices. However, after eating there Sunday evening, I became terribly sick with food poisoning about 10 hrs later. I am 100% positive that it was from here, because of the timing, what I had eaten that day, etc. I kindly called to inform them of this, for the sole purpose of perhaps initiating a check or review for them in the kitchen, to ensure that no one else becomes ill from the same dish. There was absolutely no concern for taking my information, what I ate, when I ate... NOTHING! They simply said the manager wasn't avail and hung up. I immediately called again, and basically insisted that they pass the info to the kitchen. Again, no care nor concern, didn't even bother to take my info to pass along to the manager. For this reason, never will be back again and would never recommend!!

The sushi here is good but anything else on the menu is AWFUL!! The quality of their food is inconsistent!

Had a very tasty Red Curry, lovely ambiance, lovely decor and Alexis our server was delightful.

  • Hope Y.

I could not recommend Sushi Yama enough! I eat at Sushi Yama 1-2 times per week. This is by far the best sushi I have ever eaten. The service is great, the atmosphere is very chill, and the food....the food is almost like a drug. Once you have had sushi here, there is no where else you will want to eat it. The other items on the menu are wonderful as well, but like I said before, I could not tell you enough that this sushi is just amazing. TRUST ME!!!

    (5)
  • Stephanie W.

The sushi is really good. The service is below average. Once you get your drink and food they forget you exist.

    (4)
  • Liz M.

I usually go here for a quick dinner every other week or so and the sushi is consistently good. Nothing spectacular, but you won't be disappointed. Eating by myself, I can be in and out in 40 minutes if it's not super busy. I've also had the gyoza and pad thai, which is good (although 1-star is not spicy at all, so if you like some spice, order up a bit), but haven't ventured much further into the cooked side of the menu.

  • Sarah g.

Sushi nigiri - my fave - is excellent here. Prepared well, appropriately portioned and prepared. Miso soup, veggie tempura, and a little brownie dessert round out my faves here. The kids love the teriyaki as does my husband. Service is usually pretty good, food comes out in a reasonable time, no complaints. I will say, out of eating here about 10 - 15 times I did once have a piece of sushi nigiri that had a hair on it. It happens, just didn't do much for my appetite that night! I just asked then to replace the sushi piece and all was well. Working in hospitality I know how easily it can happen, but really need to have hair nets back there guys :) Overall, I'd still eat there again and in fact have since! Give it a try; overall good for the $$. Elegantly cut and served sushi nigiri is hard to find in this area.

    (4)
  • Shay B.

The atmosphere is great; upscale, authentic and good for both a group or a date. I ordered 3 rolls and the ginger salad. The salad was good and the rolls were honestly just average. The waitstaff was very attentive and took care of everything right away. I'm only giving 3 stars because it was a little overpriced for the quality of the sushi. Presentation would maybe make up for that, if you cared for that type of thing.

    (3)
  • Michael B.

The food is good but they don't answer their phone so they lose me as a take-out customer.

WINNER, WINNER KATSU CHICKEN DINNER! So many positive things to write. First off, they are so pleasant , the service is top notch and the food gets to you fast. The place is nicely decorated, but not over the top. The prices are extremely reasonable considering the size of the dishes, easy to split. I recommend the following: ... Miso veg and chicken noodle - huge bowls, loaded with ingredients ... Black dragon - rolls are HUGE and expertly done ... Spicy roll - better than average ... Dancing crazy eel roll - very creative and super tasty ... Great kids bento box - this was a real bonus and the kids loved the katsu chicken Melissa our server was on her game. We told her were were in a rush and she was lighting fast. TIP 1: Huge roils, one roll is big enough for a meal TIP 2: Large slices of fresh fish and of a high quality I'm coming back!

I consider Sushi Yama to be the Moon Thai of Palm Beach County. That probably doesn't mean anything to you if you're not from Miami, but it's a compliment of the highest order. What that means is that you can come to Sushi Yama and expect good food, from a huge menu, in huge portions at affordable prices. Sushi Yama has both Thai and Japanese/sushi dishes, and I'm happy to report that both cuisines are done with equal skill and expertise. I've eaten here about 7 times and every meal has been excellent. The real key to Sushi Yama is the lunch specials. They have a wide variety of COMBOS to choose from, so there is certain to be something to please everybody. The best part is that they are all around $10 and you get a ton of food. The service is generally pretty good, however take out can be a bit slow sometimes. For that reason I have to take away a star, but overall Sushi Yama is a great restaurant and should be on anybody's short list for great Asian restaurants in the area.

  • Kyle J.

My favorite sushi place on PGA. Except for the weekend night wait, this places is awesome. Food comes out quick with great presentation. They even give you a little free appetizer. I usually get one of the dragon rolls. Yum!

  • Gizelle A.

My favorite sushi place in West Palm! Love the environment and the sushi. The service is average/ok from the waitress - we always sit at the bar. The sushi chefs are definitely above average! Very friendly and kind and masters of their job! I only eat raw sushi - they have a pretty good selection of raw rolls and the presentation and taste is excellent! The reason I am not giving 5 stars is that I wish they allowed customization and substitutes without extra charges just for that. I understand an extra charge if I am adding fish where there isn't or if I am getting a more expensive kind, but if I want a smaller customization or an even swap, I shouldn't have to pay extra. Aside from that, they rock! I actually "borrowed" a sushi idea from one of their rolls and now my home sushi restaurant is making that same roll for me :)

This one sushi is near my house, and also they open 7 days lunch!Thats very nice to me! They decorate is very good and comfortable seat. Their plate make very beautiful, and nice.Just one thing, compare the plate looking , the roll make just so so. Even I ordered few rolls, they have 2 rolls broke, not easy to take it with chopstick. Anyway, here still is one of my favor place.

  • Joey W.

Great food! Generous portion! We went there with another couple and left the place with full stomach for $30 each person with tips and sake. Just that the waitress was not that good, service was lousy, rarely had good service there but the food make up for it, that missing star is SERVICE. Do give it a try, you won't regret!

My first visit here was for dinner a few days before Christmas, after finding 2 hour waits at several other restaurants. We did have to wait, but not that long. We ended up running into a couple of other friends and eating with them. They have an extensive sushi menu, so now whenever one of my sushi loving friends wants to meet for lunch, I suggest this place. They also offer a variety of stir fries, soups, curries and noodle dishes, all of which I've enjoyed. My favorite is the Yaki Soba with shrimp, which I had that first night. Egg noodles and veggies in some kind of sauce that had a perfect combination of sweetness and ginger flavors. SO good! The sushi eaters report that the fish is super-fresh and delicious. I can also say from experience that the warm saki is quite nice. Service can be a bit slow, so maybe go after the movie, instead of before.

    (4)
  • Krista S.

Delicious and fresh sushi. Love their lunch bento boxes! I can't resist the sushi long enough to try anything else on the menu. But other people I have eaten with enjoyed the teriyaki and curry dishes.

  • K D.

Overall, the food is pretty decent. I always get the same roll when I go... in general the food has a good flavor and there is a great deal of variety to it but some items (like the green curry) are not a true representation of the food and I can't figure out why it's not just called something else. If you like sushi go here. If you're looking for Asian food I would keep looking. Another thing, you're not going there for the service. They have a good thing going when it comes to their food but the staff needs a serious overhaul. The servers are not particularly attentive and sometimes they are flat out rude. Do yourself a favor and sit at the sushi bar or get take-out (but check it before you leave).

Amazingly tasty sushi. Lived in Japan for 9 years, and although this may not be your traditional sushi place, the quality and quantity were amazing. Had a great family experience there for a lunch, mostly thanks to the staff who were very friendly and engaging.

Very good sushi- beautiful presentation and quality! Close to-if not the- best miso soup I've ever had. Friendly, attentive service. I definitely recommend Sushi Yama. I'll be back!

Ok so I spent 10 years in SoCal spoiled rotten w sushi.... We went to sushi Yama For my husbands birthday and all we both kept saying was WOW!!!! This is our new favorite restaurant! Tuna tower was awesome! My hubby got a lobster bomb and holy cow it was amazing! Oh and the calamari app- YUMMY!!! Prices- perfect!

  • C P.

More stars would have been since we frequent the venue. However, our latest experience was sub par. We were glad they were open on Christmas Day. Our service was abrupt. Wait staff can be trained better. One entree was brought out 10 minutes before other entrees. Not appropriate.

    (2)
  • Jessica B.

The sashimi is exemplary. The salmon, while sliced extremely thin, was a delicate yet fresh flavor. It was almost perfection. The lunch box was a nice display and they even gave me a little Turtle Cheesecake Bite as a small dessert with my lunch. I would definitely come here again.

  • Kimy H.

I've tried almost all the local sushi restaurants and I keep coming back to this one. It is by far my favorite place to go for Sushi. The service is good and the food is excellant. My favorite choice is the Shrimp Tempura roll and the green salad. The price is very reasonable. :) Highly recommend this place!

The sushi is really good! It's nice that the sushi chefs will actually talk to customers and interact with them.

  • Darrah S.

This is my favorite sushi place in the area. The staff are always very attentive, the atmosphere is great and the food is incredible. They have the best miso soup I have ever had. Every sushi roll on their menu is fantastic. The prices are the same as anywhere else, but the quality is so much better. I eat there all the time.

    (5)
  • Rithwick V.

I was told by Alexis the server on sunday night, after taking a to go order, sorry we forgot the soy sauce for your sashimi and rice for your basil stir fry because we are busy on sunday night. If being busy was an excuse for slacking on service then this place should get 5 star.

    (2)
  • John S.

Great sushi, good service and maybe the least expensive "high quality" sushi/sashimi in the North Palm Beach area. Complimentary cucumber salad to start is wonderful. Miso soup is only $1.75 and better than average Tom Yum soup at Japanese restaurant. I see many mixed reviews on sushi, but classic maguro and hamachi great both trips and I can't remember the rolls that my wife and daughter love here, huge selection.

    (4)
  • Jeff R.

I went here on a Friday night. The atmosphere is nice. The prices are decent. We ordered some Pad Woonson. It was very delicious, probably the best I've ever had. Then i had 3 rolls. All of them were very bland and the Salmon was cooked all the way. I'll come back for some noodles, but only for lunch.

What a great place to grab sushi. Love their decor and staff is great. Their lobster roll is a must. Also, they have really good sashimi dinners. Reasonably priced.

Very disappointed. Arrived at 10:25pm. Window says they close at 11pm. The lady says sorry we want to get out early.

Where should I begin? First, I order a vegetarian dish these motherfuckers took the liberty to add chicken. Secondly the waiter must of had brain surgery before he brought us water. A complete waste of skin.

    (1)
  • Barry G.

First time we went there it was OK, but not outstanding. Last time the sushi was poor...very mushy. We don't plan to go back.

This reestaurant is fantastic. The owner, Adam is great and the sushi is as fresh as it could be. Highly recommended.

Went to the Sushi Yama on Clematis, in City Place in West Palm Beach. Sashimi old and rancid-smelling, edamame yellowish-brown, soggy and also had a rancid smell, seaweed on sushi so soggy, that we couldn't bite into and tear it. Unagi (eel) smothered in some cold, sickeningly sweet sauce and the salmon skin hand roll had only rice and over-burned, tasteless salmon skin in it. The sushi rice fell apart, in everything and didn't have the characteristic sticky consistency. When we complained, they didn't take one thing off the receipt or try to send us something else, as replacement....even though we left 75% of the food on the table. Although we've never been to any of their other locations (because we've heard the sushi is inferior), these are supposed to be seasoned operators. Plus, this Clematis branch of the restaurant chain has only been opened 3 weeks - no excuse for old, bad, rancid, soggy food. Shame on Sushi Yama

  • Dave G.

Fresh. Clean, great service had $100:00 boat for four very expensive for a boring assortment of fish, totally lacking items of interest. Plain , just plain.

Beautiful place! 100% clean. Delicious food and well presented. Great customer service and good price!

    (5)
  • Felicia R.

Yelped local sushi spot, had wonderful reviews but as an avid sushi eater, the sushi was average for being pricey. Limited lunch specials with mostly shrimp options with no substitutions (i am allergic to shellfish and can not eat it) my coworker ordered the noodles are said they were just ok. Service was nothing to go crazy about.

I love coming here for lunch and getting the bento box #16. It's pad thai and shrimp tempura. It's soooo yummy.

A couple of years ago I reported a generally unfavorable experience at Sushi Yama. It had to do with being stuck paying for a dinner that we did not order. I was not happy about that and I stated that I would not return. But, I did in fact return and I and glad that I did. The wait staff is now predominately comprised younger ladies that really do hustle. I have been back four or five times, and each time the service was just as terrific as the food. Pages and pages of items to choose from. The sushi bar has chefs that make each roll with expert culinary hands. I like to start off with a pot of hot green tea, and either a chicken Tom Yum or Won-ton soup. From that point...it's whatever your taste buds happen to steer you! Besides the improved service, I like the hot hand towels they provide when you sit for dinner. Nice touch! Also, it is wonderful to see young people smile when they greet you. It's one of those things that just cannot be taught. If I have any regrets about my two year boycott, it is that I did not return sooner. Clearly, I am mellowing...clearly.

Another average sushi, I had the chirashi bento box, served on a dish and cocktail glass, no bento box! Tuna tasted like cardboard, rice bowl overcooked, no decent sushi should serve surimi, literally "ground meat" refer to a paste made from fish and/or other meat. My friend had the stir fry vegetables with tofu, tasteless. Beside the food the place is neat and service is good.

  • Keith S.

Awesome food and service! Good portions are huge and prices great! What more could you ask for?!

    (4)
  • Cristina V.

Still loving this place. It looks like everyone is catching on and finding out about it because last week when I went for an impromptu dinner, the wait was 20 minutes! I didn't mind waiting. This time I tried their "new age" salmon temaki cones rolled up with cucumber instead of rice. I also had a spicy tuna roll (with rice) And I had their Tom Ka Chicken soup in a coconut citrus broth. I LOVED IT but would have preferred it to be spicier. I love everything about this place except for the sometimes slow bussers and wait staff. They are very friendly but they need to pick up the pace a bit!

  • Tiffany B.

Sat at the bar on Saturday night it was busy. Order cucumber roll came out in 5 five minutes. And the shumi I believe us hand made in house def a better quality then others. Will be back to try more menu later. First experience and prices were good

  • Renee V.

I seriously LOVE sushi yama. Right down the street from our house and I go way too much. I always get a bowl of miso or the salad with ginger dressing (awesome) and pad Thai and kappa maki (cucumber rolls). Never fails to keep me fully satisfied. Friendly staff as well! I just wish they'd change the music because I feel like I'm eating in an elevator.

  • Dexter M.

Best sushi I've had in the Palm Beaches. The price is right, the rolls are big and the fish is fresh. I'd definitely go back.

    (4)
  • Keith B.

Last time we ordered take out , they gave my order to someone else! Then, forgot to give us soy sauce. Last night they packed up the food into a tower which fell over in the car on the way home, spilling the food into the plastic bag. In addition we asked for brown rice and got white instead. They need better quality control!

I am a big fan of Sushi Yama in Boca. First time visiting this location. No drop off in service, ambiance or quality of food. Five of us ordered a boat for 4 and it was magnificent. Could not even finish it. Let chef Lome decide what rolls to put on the boat and he delivered. Loved a very creative roll that had fresh mango in it. Service was fabulous despite the fact that the place was packed. When we left at arounf 8 15 people were waiting to be seated. Will return next time up in north PBC.

Can't say the food has ever been bad here. The restaurant is tucked in between a Publix and Outback Steakhouse. I usually order a bento box at lunch time with sushi and/or sashimi. The price is very good at around $10 for a lot of food. The fish has always been fresh. They also have frequently served me with more than what is stated in the menu. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that a couple of the regular servers are sometimes helpful, sometimes not.

    (4)
  • Morgan K.

Went twice and it was good both times. They have a beautiful sashimi roll (no rice) and the fish is wrapped around different veggies. It was so pretty and so unique, also equally delicious. Service is pretty good. Decor is upscale and contemporary, not what you'd usually find in a sushi place, but it is very comfortable.

    (4)
  • Chuck B.

the service really plain stinks..... no organization..... waiter/waitress just pick up tables randomly....... bad attitude..... look elsewhere

  • Rima D.

This was my sisters pick, but it was great one, I'm not a fan of Sushi but a lot of great options none the less and super friendly staff. I would def return on my next trip!

This place always satisfy me with price, portion, ans flavor. You can get Thai or Japanese. I ordered the Unagi Don (Eel donburi) Slices of grilled eel with a sweet eel sauce served on top a bed of short grain sushi rice with avocado and sliced Japanese cucumber between. I absolutely loved it. There was plenty slices of eel for a lunch portion. My friend ordered the sashimi chirashi from lthe unch menu and it looked better than mine. Fish was very fresh with 6 different sliced fishes as well as tomago (egg) (12 pieces). $13.95 for the chirashi combo was a must! I would definitely go back there again and try their lunch combinations if you're looking for a quick lunch with variety.

I'm giving two stars because the service is a horrible mess. I went during lunch break from work, and the hostess seemed so apathetic in seating us. We stood waiting on her for a few minutes, and when the hostess finally came by, she cast us a quick impersonal glance and asked us to sit where we please. Ok, no biggie, I've experienced worse. But I started getting a little upset when it took at least 10 minutes for one of the waitresses to come take our drink order or even give us a menu. Really? My coworkers and I didn't have time to dilly dally on a workday, waiting on someone that was supposed to wait on us. I could see them coming out every now and again with other orders but then would quickly disappear into the kitchen without a backwards glance towards our table. I observed as other guests came in and stood in the front, waiting patiently for the hostess. I suppose they were regulars, as they didn't seem the least bit bothered by the inattentiveness. Honestly, the waitresses looked like they would rather be anywhere but there and were pretty indifferent towards us throughout the entire duration of our meal. Despite the extremely sub-par service, the food was delightful. I ordered the crispy duck noodle soup, and would definitely recommend. It was a hefty portion with a good amount of quality-tasting ingredients. The jalapenos that come on the side, I would say leave that as pretty decoration and refrain from eating. I happened to mix one into my soup and took a tiny bite, and was in for a five-alarm surprise. Needless to say, the rest of my meal consisted of glasses of ice water. Bottom line is, go here if you have time to spare and want to enjoy a satisfying Asian meal. The place would be really great if only their service would improve.
