Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I've been to most of the locations in the Orlando area and I've never been disappointed. So many delicious options with great fillings available. Some of my favorites are Dos Bangin' Tacos, the Chimichanga, and any variation of the Burrito. They have the option of making your meals "power-lite" using low fat cheese and sour cream, with the options of whole wheat tortillas. You can also order burritos and chimi's "wet" which is covered in queso or salsa, DELICIOUSS. I've even requested corn tortillas on some dishes and the staff has always been really courteous and gotten what I've requested. The hot sauce bar is really what sets this place apart for me. I love hot sauce, and I love a variety of hot sauce even more! They have a good variety and scale of heat from sweet with low heat to quite a good burn. Taco Tuesday and Burrito Thursday are a great way to get a meal for cheap, just prepare for some locations to be a little busier than normal.

Love how fresh everything tastes and so glad you have one in Merritt Island too!

Typical Tijuana Flats, good food, pretty good service, and a great hot sauce bar. This one in Oviedo gets pretty busy, say, on a Friday night, but they're is usually enough space inside and outside for everyone.

Had lunch here today with my team. Around $58 for 7 people. Can't beat that. Good food.

Food is not that good, service is fast and the hot sauce bar is always full. For some reason this locations food is always salty (beef chimichanga and burrito). My family and friends eat at other locations through out central Florida and it is never as salty as this location. I love eating at Tijuana but not this one. The 2 stars is mainly for the service.

It's Taco Tuesday! 2 tacos with chips & drink for $5.49!! Favorite day to come here but of course always the busiest day of the week.. They have happy hour(s) everyday from 4-7.. $2 daughter $2 wine $3 sangria and $10 buckets.. This location does a good job of moving people through the line pretty quickly. They also fill your drinks too. Only down fall is there's not enough seating Highly recommend..

Good, reliable, and fresh food. Moreso on the fast food order/service spectrum, but food is definitely not fast food.

I haven't "frequented" this place in the past, but I am not sure why not. It is a convenient meeting place for my family after work for Taco Tuesday! They have a cheap happy hour that I am looking forward to trying. The food is usually out quick and I like the hot sauce bar. Tuesdays seem kind of disorganized, but I think it's just because they are so busy. You can tell they are working hard. I agree seating is hard to come by, and I prefer to sit in a booth, but one of them seems to be falling apart. The salsa is slightly sweet to me and the queso is tasty. I usually get the soft tacos or salad. It's pretty much the same ingredients, just organized differently. I like how you can customize what you get, though.

A fine establishment, a fine one indeed. Not my regular Tijuana Flats that I go to, which in actuality is not completely true since it is close to the office and a possible lunch location for those lunch-less day but but this one was on the way back to the office from an errand, a convenient location at that since it happened to be right around lunch time. It is your standard Tijuana Flats with a friendly staff and the same good food items. However the one negative from this location is parking. At lunch time, finding parking is a bit of a challenge. Thankfully this time it was well after the noon rush, but normally, good luck!

My favorite tijuana flats to go to. Always friendly and fast service. Food is consistently good. I like the black bean tostadas a day the Mexican pizza both are delish. Of course the main draw in the hot sauce bar... who doesn't like sauce right? Wimpy or brave there is a sauce for you that your gonna love
(5)Mike P.
This place has really good food and is very family friendly. The hot sauce bar is awesome with at least 10 different flavors

Before I go on, please understand that for this Texas girl, anything imitating Mexican food won't be viewed very highly from the start. It's pretty good. I was NOT a fan of their enchiladas, but so far, that's the worst thing I've had. Everything else has been better than alright.

Worst Tijuana Flats location ever. We order takeout at the University Blvd/UCF location all the time, which is always perfect, but this location on Lockwood absolutely stinks. (Seriously, it smells bad inside.) They constantly screw up our orders. Even when they get the order right, they are skimpy on ingredients, or the food is just gross. At first we thought it was just bad luck, but it keeps happening. We finally decided never to visit this location again.

Nothing special about this place except maybe their sauce bar. No matter what you order, it all taste the same. If you order a taco and an enchilada.. It's all the same stuff thrown together. Been there multiple times and I leave unsatisfied. I had an incident with hair in my food once, manager took care of the bill for us but not worth it.
(2)Bao P.
The food is good. I love their chimichangas and their queso. Love, Bao Eat on my friends

Service is always consistent. Every one is friendly. Food is already fresh, warm and delicious. Very family friendly.
(4)Amy C.
Tijuana flats is awesome, but this is the worst of the 5+ locations I go to. The quality of the food is a bit lower and the service isn't as friendly. I also got rejected for a guac refill which I get at every other place all the time!!! Take an extra five minutes and find another location.
(2)Nerlin R.
I've been to this location only twice and both were just take out orders at night. However, the location is clean (which to me is way important) and the service was fast. I had the mega Chicken Chimichanga which was delicious especially since they had my favorite hot sauce "on tap". My brother, who had never eaten food from Tijuana Flats, was very disappointed with the tacos despite trying both the chicken and beef ones. Admittedly, I sometimes forget to order something when ordering but the girl at the cashier was cool about letting me add delicious churros to the order last minute. I think the chicken quesadilla is good but so far that and the chimichanga are the only things I've like (not counting the churros). I was sorta disappointed with the chips and their dips. TL;DR? Place is clean and employees friendly. Order the chicken chimichanga or quesadilla with rice and beans and live happily. Other items are at your own risk. Make sure to end the night with churros!

This is a pretty cool college vibed tex mex place. the food is definitely decent but doesn't blow me away. It's a little over priced for what you get but the vibe is nice if you're looking to hang out with buddies and grab a taco.

Medium veggie burrito, black beans, no cheese - yes, jalapenos! When it comes to the Flats I'm rather consistent and rather boring. However, I know what I like and I know that if I find myself here that veggie burrito will be good. This is no fuss, no frills Mexican (?) - TexMex (?) with good portions and a plentiful hot sauce bar. This particular location has maybe 15 different types of hot sauce but I've been to others with a much larger selection. The offer everything from mild to death wish so be sure to grab a few of those tiny plastic cups and go to town! Prices are reasonable. They also offer beer and wine. Beware of taco Tuesday and lunch hour!

All right boys and girls, let's get down to business. I want to open my review by saying "My name is Jason H. and I am a Flathead-holic" I worship this place to infinity and beyond. The minute I walk in TJ Flats, I feel like I am on an Austin Powers movie set with these color swirl murals! Everything on the menu is really awesome... I have had tacos, enchiladas, flautas, burritos, etc...... Though my recommendation would be the GRILLED (Special order) chicken flautas which is a Mexican dish consisting of a small rolled-up tortilla filled with chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion and all the good stuff. End your blissful dinner with some sweet churros then you will just be on Cloud Flathead... If you dare, try their spiciest sauce, endorphin rush or the suicide version and see if you lived to tell us about it.... I chose to stay safe and went with habanero sauce. Sign up on their website to receive specials, they tend to send out BOGO specials once a month.... and sign up for their texts.... I think I am enrolling myself into Flathead Anonymous, yet I think I am gonna let my TJ Flats addiction go on longer.... Now, are you ready to be a Flathead?

If you're in the area and going to a Tijuana Flats, go here- the UCF location on University is gross (have found hairs in my food before).

Just had my second trip to Tijuana, first time this location. I went on Tuesday because of the two tacos, drink, and chips special for $4.99 They have good service and the food was fresh. If you get the chicken and avoid the chips it's a pretty healthy meal. I like the concept, it's simple food. I am just happy to have some alternative here in Oviedo.

I'm not sure why people (including my boyfriend) 'love' TF but whatever. As you can read from the other reviews, all TFs sell good tacos and burritos. I would say this is upscale version of a taco bell. Good meats, good tortillas, and good toppings. I guess what I do like about this place is their skinny menu options. Not that many places offer low fat cheese or sour cream. I also like their salsa spread. This particular TFs ad good customer service and was really clean. The waitress kept the tables clean and made sure customer's drinks were full. I have been to other TFs where the service was just not good. So, overall yay! for this location.

Well there are many Tijuana Flats around... Service was fantastic in this one. Everyone was pleasant. They kept refiling our drinks without looking like they aren't happy about it. Just really nice staff
(5)Katelyn C.
I only went here for some late night Americanized tacos...nothing special and nothing worth bringing an out of town friend too. To be honest, if I am going to eat junk mexican-esque food I would prefer Chipotle...

Always clean & staff is friendly. Love the burritos and nachos!

As good as it gets in the Oviedo area! They have entertainment on the patio out front. The patio is smaller than the one on Winter Springs so get there early. They usually schedule some great local talent. Their food is always good and the service is great too! I always look forward to at least one weekend night at this location.

I LOVE me some TFlats! It's funny to me how people say Moe's is better than TFlats because I really just don't get it. I have never had a bad experience at Tijuana Flats. I usually go for the chicken and black bean burrito - always a solid choice for me. And I usually can't pass up having it wet with queso - sooooo good! I recently tried their Flautas and was impressed as well. The chips are so flavorful too! I love the atmosphere at TFlats - it's colorful, lively, and full of helpful employees. They always greet me when I come in, offer me a menu, great with drink refills -- very attentive. And if you're ever in the mood for sweets, please please please try their cookie dough flautas! Cookie dough stuffed into flautas, lightly fried with powdered sugar and chocolate syrup on top - YUM.

One of the best parts about living in the Orlando area is being able to claim fame to the Tijuana Flats restaurant chain being founded here by a UCF student. Since its first restaurant opened in Winter Park over 10 years ago, the chain has grown by leaps and bounds across Florida and the Southeast. TF's has two locations in Oviedo; this review is for the original restaurant located off of Lockwood and Mitchell Hammock. Just to be clear, this is not a high-end Mexican restaurant, but at roughly 8 dollars for a meal and drink, it is the best quality food you can get for the price. Sure you could go to Taco Bell and get 18 dog meat tacos for 2 bucks, but we are taking quality here, not quantity. The Oviedo location offers both indoor and outdoor seating, but they could use some additional booths because the place fills up fast in the evening on the weekends. You walk-in, pick-up your menu, proceed to the counter and place your order. TIP: TF's is running a special right now until November 22nd. Two tacos, chips and a soda for $4.99 (before tax), that's about a 3 dollar savings! Once you place your order you can proceed over to the "Hot Bar", the signature design element of any TF's. The Hot Bar offers a selection of various TF-produced sauces rated in heat levels ranging from smiley face (mild) to death face (en fuego). One knock I have on the Oviedo location is that they rarely change the sauces. They have been the same for the last 3 years, but that doesn't impact me since I always go with the "Slap My Ass & Call Me Sally Habanero" sauce. My order of Dos Tacos has always been good, but I have ventured into the burritos as well and they are also delicious. The ingredients are fresh, or as fresh as a sit-down restaurant can get. You have the option to go with "Power Lite" sour cream on your tacos if you are looking to watch your weight. The tortilla chips served with the meal are ultra tasty and I will spill the beans right now on why they taste so good. They use French Fry seasonings on the chips! That's it, nothing special, but that mixture of pepper and salt on the chips makes all the difference in the world. The only other knock I have on this specific location is the wait staff. I have been to a number of different TF's throughout Central Florida, and this wait staff is the most lifeless, uninterested group I have come across. Normally the staff is fun, outgoing, smiling; this group just seems to be a bunch of time card punching minimum wage workers. However, the worst part is the wait staff habitually takes your tray away from you without asking if you are done. WHAT! It has happened to me multiple times, only at this location, and it happened again this past weekend. I had finished my tacos and was working my way through my chips, I turned to look at the TV for a few seconds, and then reached down to grab another chip and my hand just hit the top of the table. I started looking around thinking maybe aliens had abducted my tray for scientific experiments, but no, the waitress had it in hand and was taking it away to trash the rest of my chips. Maybe this was a sign? Maybe she noticed the "muffin top" around my waist was getting a little bit bigger and she was saving me from myself. Maybe she was starting a collection of leftover chips to give to less fortunate children at the end of her shift. Maybe she thought I had a wheat allergy (although I pounded those two wheat shell tacos as if the ship was sinking). I saw the same thing happen to another table near us that night, and the woman looked at me and mouthed the words "what just happened?" I guess it might be their way of encouraging people to get out of the restaurant, but please take the time to ask if I am done first. All-in-all, TF's is a treat of a restaurant rolled up in a soft tortilla shell and topped with hot sauce. Whenever we have friends from out of the area come for a visit we usually stop by TF's for lunch just to let them try it out. They all leave with the same question, "when are we going to get one of these up north?" Just a couple of tweaks needed at the Oviedo location, but TF's is a must if you are looking for good quality, affordable Mexican food.
