I'm writing this fresh from this restaurant. We found Spanish Pointe yesterday and brought our wives back for sunset and dinner. Spectacular setting on the water....real Tiki Bar atmosphere. That is where the problems started. One waiter(did a great job)had to cover the entire restaurant plus tend bar. No one was at the front so we seated ourselves. Owner's daughter showed up later but was no help getting the food and drinks out. We finally were able to place our drink and food order, including calamari. Time passed with no food, finally stopped the waiter asking about the appetizer. He immediately came back with the Calamari but it was completely cold....sent it back. 10 minutes later food was delivered with a fresh order of calamari. Since we had our entrees' we sent the calamari back. By the way, all of our food was very good. Someone in the kitchen knows what they're doing. About this time, we find that the owner was setting two tables away. One of our group goes to the owner, (setting alone) and tells him that this is a great setting. With proper staffing, this would be a million dollar location. All this was done in a manner of commiserating with him over the fact that wait staff hadn't shown. His comment was "I already make a million dollars because I'm a cardiologist and don't worry about this restaurant". This was his attitude on the whole debacle(computer stopped working and couldn't produce our bill). We tipped our waiter above the 20% mark for his extra hard work. Told the owner when we were leaving that it was doubtful that we would be back and all we got was a shrug. Will not be back...too many good restaurants that appreciate your business.

It's Spanish Pointe Pub and Marina... with a capital PUB Great for sunset cocktails, brew and burgers, calamari, fried fish. VERY "l-o-c-a-l" bar with GOOD bar eats. Outside deck and tables. Boaters can tie up at their dock. Family friendly. Nice bay view. They close by 9pm. It's like a trip back in time... or the Twilight Zone episode "Stop at Wiloughby"

Fresh seafood right on the water, coupled with a cold drink. Who could ask for anything more? Been coming here for years and will keep on coming!

The music, service, food & drinks were just what we were looking for on our vacation! Love that its off the beaten path!

Not sure why someone took this classic waterfront hangout and decided to make it place where $50 per person wine dinners should be held. Had the Thai shrimp for $15 and 6 small shrimp showed up drowning in mediocre sauce. Decided to split the lobster roll with my better half and regretted it immediately. Burnt toast with flavorless lobster "filling" was enough for me. Too bad, this used to be one of our favorite places to come by boat but the $60 lunch tab (with 2 beers and one wine) will make me steer clear when heading north

Although it was a little overpriced, we loved our visit here. The food was delicious. We ordered the fish wrap with blackened mahi mahi, and it was absolutely delicious. It came with a side of pasta salad, which was tasty but possibly the smallest serving of pasta salad I've ever seen. They served it in a plastic cup meant for condiments. For a $14 wrap, I would like some more pasta salad. The steamed broccoli, $2.50, was also delicious, but again the serving was pretty small. The service was wonderful. I was surprised and pleased with how friendly everyone was. We were greeted (in a friendly way, not overbearing) by multiple people as we found a table. Our server was incredibly friendly too, and was good at paying attention to refill of our drinks. The location here is AWESOME. Right on the water. After eating, we sat for like an hour, watching a couple manatee who were hanging out 20 feet off the dock. We also saw a dolphin swim by. We were impressed by their draft selection. It wasn't huge, but they had Kentucky bourbon ale, which I haven't seen much of outside of Kentucky. $9 a cup was pretty steep, though. The ambiance is super casual, perhaps even divey. Which we loved. It's an ideal divey beach bar, even though it's a bit pricey for what it was.

We used to come here every time we visited Sarasota but the last few times have had terrible service - this past visit today was no exception. The food took over an hour to arrive. The order was somewhat correct but missing requests like hamburger without cheese (it came with cheese) and blt no mayonnaise (it had mayo). Do not order the seared ahi tuna - it was terrible quality piece of meat for $19. Even getting refills of draft beer to an insanely long time to arrive. Out server was very sweet but just couldn't get it together. We did love this place & would love to see it succeed so we looked to give this feedback to the manager - we were told his name was Chris and he would come out talk to us. Sadly, Chris never came out. This will be our last visit to this place.

Very good! I had the ribs (special of the day), shrimp & oyster appetizers and the fried fish platter. Everything was amazing, the service was great and they were really kid friendly. Gorgeous view and wonderful place to go!

A must do! GREAT atmosphere, perfect sunset view, service was excellent. You will be sorry if you miss this!

Wish I could give this place no stars. Lol. How do you walk in and they tell you to wait to be seated then wait till random people walk in and fill all the outside tables that we wanted to sit at then say we have no more tables. Yeah no shit! Lol, you let people come in after us and sit where ever they wanted with out waiting. Then the waitress says sit where ever you want. We can't now... You let everyone else walk in and sit where they wanted while we waited patiently. Oh... And then the male bartender tried to justify it by saying well they do have bigger parties. He must be blind because every table had two people sitting at each one, the same as my party. After that I just turned around and left. Idiots work here... Won't recommend this place again.

The Thai shrimp is the best this side of Thailand! Great atmosphere, karaoke and live bands. The fish is very nicely cooked and a great view right on the water.

I met a friend for lunch and sat under the hut. The atmosphere is nice, of course any place with a view of water is heavenly! My friend ordered the veggie burger which she liked. I had a shrimp po boy. This item is NOT on the menu but our waitress, Jordana, was more than happy to accommodate me. Great service. Great prices. From what we had, the only thing I would change is the French fries. They were not good. I am looking forward to going back.

Me and my fiance were looking for a dog friendly place to eat, since we had our husky with us, we came across this place because it is right on the water and our husky was welcomed. It is all outdoor seating. We got there and was told to seat ourselves, no problem with that. We waited ten minutes to get sweet tea to be told they don't have sweet tea, oh well, I could live with that. Although they never brought sugar like she said she would. We ordered a crab cake appetizer (13.95) and waited 20 minutes for that. When it came out I started laughing in their faces. It was one crab cake with sauce on it. I let them know it was a rip off and they laughed at me. I bet a family of four has ordered that and been pretty pissed when they got it. Although it was good, no where near worth the price. After waiting 20 minutes to order, we got up and paid $20 for one crab cake and 2 awful teas. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you wanna pay for the view.

This is so sad. The location is great. The bartender and wait staff are good too. The management is awful. We were there at 6 on a Saturday night and they were out of wine glasses and frequently ordered beers. I ordered a wrap and they were out of wraps. I said just give it to me without the wrap and was charged extra. So much potential, but very poorly run. We won't go back

Overall a fun place to stop for lunch while on a boat. Pros: - good service! - good atmosphere! - mostly good food: French fries are great and fish from the Philippines is a bit greasy. Cons: - Calamari is rubbery and too much breading. - Bathrooms are in need of renovation. - Mixed drinks weren't great and they were out of some drink mixes.

For years we have gone about once a month to Spanish Point to grab a burger, beer and always great sun set. Last night were we shocked! New chef, new servers, new menu, new HIGH prices and most of all the burger, fries & macaroni salad (that they now force on you) were terrible. They got rid of the cole slaw that was terrific. The only thing not ruined was the sunset, but hey... that was supplied by God! We have had visitors beg us to take them there, well no more, bet you don't survive after the snowbirds are gone. Note: a little further south and you can eat at Pop's!

Old Florida. This is the nicest Tiki Bar with the Old Florida charm. Come for the neighborhood locals, but stay because of the views, peaceful vibe, and the fun atmosphere. Dress is casual, with about 10 tables on the sand you are sure to find the right spot to watch the dolphins and fish enjoying the gulf waters.

Great views. A bit touristy. I got the mussels and linguine - it was very good but Casey Key Fish House was better.

I started going there by boat back in the late 1970s. The food was never all that good, but it had a nice old Florida atmosphere and George Dickel behind the bar. This was many years before the tiki bar and table service were added. (You used to order and pick up your food from a window to eat outside.) It still has a lot of old FL charm, even though a lot of it is vinyl. Beautiful location on a wide stretch of the Intracoastal, beautiful sunsets if you time it right. We stopped in the other day after a disappointment a couple years ago. Food is still not so great. Beer batter on the fish was doughy and greasy. Thai shrimp are just their regular fried shrimp with some kind of pink mayo squirted on them, and they gave me 7 of them for $15. Fries were hot and good, though. Their prices are higher than posted on the website menu, by the way. As we finished eating, it occurred to me: having a meal at Spanish Pointe is like making love to a woman who is so beautiful that you don't want to admit that she's really not very good at it.

Had a nice time at a place i never knew existed. Open walls let the bay breeze in and it was such a relaxed atmosphere. Place was full of regulars for lunch. The menu is short and the place is plain, but it is a total Florida vibe. Will drag out of towners here for sure.

Downhill! Always liked this place- long before the tiki roof was built over the deck- food wS alwYs great and the seaside view super-- but anymore each time we go there the food and wait staff have gone further downhill! This last visit wS the worst and we are done hoping they will wake up! They were serving BASA as were a few other mediocre restaurants in the area which we would not frequent again because there are plenty of places that serve good snapper, grouper, mAi, etc. there were 8 of us and I ordered the fish wrap and asked for the one flaky fish they offered Mai. I don't know what it was but it was grey in color and far from flaky! Almost ground fish appearance! Not going back - ever.

Giving it 5 stars for the martini and the atmosphere and the fact that it's a real cool no-frills dive bar. The food works especially if you come alone, sit at the bar and strike up a conversation with the bartender. If you come with friends you can sit on the "beach" and watch the boats. It's the kind of place I really don't want to tell anybody else about but apparently I'm doing just that.

Summary - Tiki bar on Water, bar menu. This is kinda a hidden little gem. It's right on the water, great views with the laid back tiki hut atmosphere. Great place to have a few drinks with friends. Food: 3.0 stars. not a huge menu but the fish is decent. Little limited on the selection. We come here when boating to get a meal and have a few drinks on the water. Food leaves a little to be desired. Also not consistent with quality. Conch fritters are good. Atmosphere - 4 stars. Great view and the old school florida, tiki hut on the water. They don't try and over do it and that's part of the appeal to me. Service - 3.5 stars - Good to great service. A few of the servers know us so it's a fun time. Very attentive and on top of their game. Fun bonus. They have long docks on the water for the boaters, and I've been there a few times when tourists, or new boat owners try to dock and make a mess of it. Beware, everyone is watching!

First me say that Jason, the bartender was awesome! Friendly, professional and fun. He was great interacting with guests, the young female server we had, was not so much. But the true disappointment was the "Fried" grouper sandwich. It was gummy, there was no flavor, and the lettuce was wilted from the super hot fried fish, but there was no crunch at all. I ate the cole slaw and fries. I was hungry, looking forward to a late lunch on the waterfront. Our server never asked us if we wanted another beer or dessert, just brought us the check. This review is just on our recent visit today, Aug. 2, 2013. Doesn't mean we won't go back, it's a great spot on the water! Just don't order the Grouper Wrap, it's gross. Bartender Jason gets five stars, Ambiance gets five stars, husbands salad... three stars and my grouper wrap 0 stars. Oh, the other waitstaff... the seasoned women rocked it!

NOTE: There are TWO Bayview Drives in the area, one in Osprey and one in nearby Nokomis! This restaurant is on the Bayview Drive in OSPREY, and it's excellent! We had lunch there after a bike ride yesterday and it was really, really, good! I had a Grouper Wrap sandwich that was just right and my wife had a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad that was very good indeed. That, coupled with nice outdoor seating under a big thatched-palm "chikee" roof and some nice live music and a nice selection of beers, made for an excellent afternoon. Yes, it's just a "joint" with plastic silverware and plastic tablecloths over plastic lawn furniture tables and chairs, but, we had a very nice meal and a really great time with excellent service and, if you haven't been there yet, you really should go! spanishpointe.com

We're new to town, just moved from Austin, Texas, so we're always looking for laid back places to eat, drink, and watch the water. Spanish Pointe is a great little place! Love the tiki hut atmosphere and the friendly wait staff. We stopped in for lunch, so a bucket of Landshark and some sloppy nachos later, happy campers! We'll work the rest of the menu for dinner soon! Thanks, Jim, for filling us in on the local history and gossip. We will be back!

This place used to be a few tables and chairs few years ago. Grown to a beautiful covered patio and an extensive menu. Great beach atmosphere but the food was nothing to rave about . I ordered the salmon and rice both of which arrived cold . So my review go for the music, the outdoors and fried food .

Good vibes and location at first...however when we asked about a happy hour, young waitress was pretty rude and asked for IDs before we had even ordered anything. In my opinion, that's rude hospitality and I did not want to give her my business afterwards. Good fried food though!

They may have a Venice address listed here, but it's really in Osprey just before Bay St. Cute tiki hut overlooking the Gulf. Great place for a fish fry or steamed mussels in lots & lots of garlic. Music starts at 5 pm every day & people sometimes dance among the tables. Drinks are a bit pricey, but the beer is reasonable by the pitcher. Good place to watch a sunset. When it's cooler, the staff lights the heaters in the tiki hut. Fun to sit out on the old marina dock to watch the mullet jump out of the water. Is that a Senior thing or what? Mostly, a younger middle aged crowd frequents here. Fun place to visit.

Used to have delicious food, great and fun servers and clean dining area...now under new management which clearly puts little to no effort into the place and banks on the view and ambiance to carry the business.

This place has a beautiful view and a great location. We visited this place often. We loved coming here because we could order something nice to eat (food is ok) and enjoy the view, have a drink and relax. On Friday 7/25/14 I took my dear friends that came to visit from South America to our "special" spot, and it was more than disappointing! We started by ordering our drinks to what the waitress said we don't have any vodka, no, we don't have ingredients for Mai Tai, no we don't have ingredients for Bahama Mammas, we ended up ordering wine and beer (which is fine). Then, we started ordering food, there was no peel and eat shrimp, no calamari, nothing we wanted, instead the waitress offered other plates that did not appeal to us. We drank our drinks, paid and left to another place where we could actually have a choice. My friends were shocked! Downwhill is a kind word. This was a very embarrassing situation for me. I'll have to hear very good things about SP before I go back.

Had an amazing lunch here. We order sangria and it was great. The food was amazing and our waitress was fantastic. Loved the view" - great find, will return!
(5)Brian S.
Another very popular spot with the locals with a great gulf of Mexico sunset. More pub grub than fine dinning with a few nice fish dishes. Neat place to down a few beers or cocktails waiting for the sun to go down and enjoy life with your friends.

I really want this place to be better than it is. For location and ambiance, it wins a lot of points--it has an old Florida, shack-on-the-water type vibe (although with the new tiki hut roof it's not so much shack anymore). It promises good times by the water with nothing to do but have a drink and watch the boats roll by. I suppose that scenario might be possible...if you didn't want to eat. Unfortunately, the food is pretty bad. Last time we were there we got some soup--watery, flavorless clam chowder--and a "crab" cake that was about the cheapest, breadiest preparation of crab cake you could have and legally call it that. Oh, and my salad was literally sitting in water, and the lettuce was waterlogged and brown. Gross! So they really need to improve the food and I think they'd have a really happening place. With some good eats--even just some greasy but tasty, shareable appetizers--this place would be a perfect Saturday afternoon haunt.
(3)Joyce H.
Very good. Atmosphere was nice. Live band, and the crab cakes were delicious!

I have went here several times and the food was not great and not bad, but last night after thunder by the bay we stopped in for dinner. We called first to make sure it was not full and was told it slow. We were seated in the Tiki hut area and our server was a young girl that was the most inept waitress I have ever had. She seated a table of 4 and of 9 after us and took their drink orders before ours, then she took over an hour to take our order. The table of 4 that came in after us had their meal before she took our order, we had to flag her down to get her to take our order. Then she did not bring our drinks correctly. After another half our wait she brought out our food order and it was half right. We told her that the order was wrong and she was going to return it, but it had taken so long we decided to just keep it. Then we waited another half hour and no bill, and the dishes were piled up on our table and it was obvious we were finished and not only that but the place closed at 8:30 and it was 9 and there was only one table with people still at it. We had to go get her to get a bill. The lobster Bisque soup tasted like flower with a bit of milk and fish juice in it. We did return the soup and then when she did bring the bill she had charged us for the more expensive dish that she did not bring out that we had kept the less expensive meal to save time. I brought that to her attention and she took another 15 min to adjust the bill. We left no tip at all. The service was not only bad it made for a horrible experience. Bad enough that I doubt I will go back again. It was not only our waitress but the bar tender and other staff that is very poor at their job. I watched as they closed and the staff counted their tips instead of taking care of customers. I do not recommend going there as the staff seems to have either changed for the worse and the food is not anything special to be treated like this. Even the band played one song went to the bar and then drank, went and played one song then went to the bar for the full time we were there.

Great location, I would have some suggestions if I ran the zoo, but really picturesque view off of the side of this thatched pub's deck. None too busy, ok service, and right on a marina. A simple bar and restaurant with a volleyball net set up out back. Could really do with some advertisements to get the young-nautical set here as you really couldn't ask for a better setting, yet is hard to find and doesn't sell itself.
(3)Heather M.
Hmmmm... Just to be fair... It IS a bar on the gulf; with that kind of 5-star view, who needs great cocktails or food? My margarita was too sour but I was tipsy after 1 and a half of them. My lobster bisque was served in styrofoam...mine was hot and the hubby's was cold...I liked mine. The grilled gulf Shrimp was alright...typical shrimp on a few pieces of iceberg on a styrofoam plate. The didn't have the seafood salad we ordered but we stopped there. Shrimp appetizer, 2 cups of soup, 3 margaritas, fries and nachos = $65 (before tip). IMO, a bit overpriced for what you get. But the Tiki (Cheeky) Hut is awesome along with the view.
