India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.

The service here was excellent. The food is just ok. We tried the chicken tikka .. Was over masala'd and was not good. I had a chettinad(South Indian) masala dosa. It was filled with pulses and such--no potatoes!!. Dunno if that is auth chettinad masala dosa. Was horrible anyhow:( We ordered a mutton curry.. That tasted simply awesome. Then ordered a Biriyani to go. It was simply atrocious:(. Also ordered a chicken soup and they gave me chicken curry in a bowl.. Since Indians really don't have soups per se that is a pardonable offense:). The curry-soup however tasted awesome. I had a southie filter coffee(to which I added one teaspoon of real sugar) and tasted heavenly. That was authentic filter coffee! If you are an Indian/immigrant, then you are bound to give scathing reviews like this. But the restaurant also has to cater to the taste buds of non-Indians. So I am not bitter. It is tough to run an Indian restaurant and cater to two different worlds. Non-Indians especially the British might love this place, imo.

The food was great but the customer service was wack . They need customer service training!

We are very disappointed with the food and service. We had waited for one hour to get not so tasty food. We don't plan to go

First of all the food was delicious. But fair warning...get it TAKE OUT! The service was lovely...until I presented a Groupon. The server REFUSED to accept it and scolded me telling me "there are rules" which apparently means you have to show the Groupon before you order. I completely understand maybe I made a mistake. I use Groupon to try out places I've never been and have been a full paying regular customer to many of them after, and no one has ever told me that. But in fairness I accept my mistake and I will do so from now on. HOWEVER the RUDENESS was not acceptable. He could have explained nicely, and i would have just payed full price and used my Groupon next time, but after that performance i will not be going back! As an independent restaurant owner myself I am VERY understanding even if food is a little sub par, but not of rudeness. He argued for a good 10 min going back and forth to the "manager" and finally brought me the adjusted bill with no words. I still left 20% tip. I enjoyed the food, but get ready for major rudeness and arguments if you have any issues. They need major customer service training! And FYI this is the only bad review I've ever given!! I'm very easy to please.

I went here to eat buffet on a Friday. The place looks excellent and so clean and the everything makes you feel good except the food. Food is not as good as their plates and/or silver wear. I know its a buffet so you can't expect too much but then I felt disappointed. I'm a vegetarian and I didn't find anything that I'm satisfied with. Just to give them a point they got their UPMA (south Indian) almost perfect. I would definetely go there again to order something from the menu which looks so tempting and hopefully change this review.

It was chaotic ; non one seemed to know what they were doing. We waited for 15 minutes to get seated in an empty Restaurent because none of them were willing to clean and set the table. The daal Bukhara had a piece of cling wrap floating , looks like they just used Deep ready made daal. Dosa was soggy ? Sambar had no taste ,no consistency. The non-veg platter was uncooked. Terrible service as they hired fresh grads with no experience.

Excellent! Went for lunch and wasn't disappointed! Had the Vegetable Makhanwala with Garlic Naan and Ginger Tea, fantastic! Great for vegetarians but they also serve non-veg food! Service was perfect! Will definitely be back for more!

I came here with my parents and we had a fantastic experience. The food itself was delicious and mostly authentic- I had the Gosht Badam Pasanda and the lamb was flavorful and tender- the only reason I didn't eat all of it was because the portions were so large! My dad had the vegetable kurma, which I tasted, and found to be just the right blend of spice and vegetables- he especially loved all the cardamom. The ghobi tikka as our appetizer was perfectly cooked cauliflower and spicier than I'm used to, but still delicious. The garlic naan and pappadam were delicious and buttery and flavorful. They really impressed me with their customer service as well. My stepmom is extremely allergic to dairy, which she usually tells our servers, but because there was no dairy listed on the item, she had the Gosht sagwala. When it came she immediately saw that there was butter in it. The staff could have handled this horribly, but instead they were more than kind. The chef came out and didn't just offer to make her something else, but had the cooks make an entirely new base for the dish without dairy so that she could still have the meal she ordered. We had the same issue with the garlic naan, and he offered her roti (non-dairy) as an alternative so that she could still enjoy the experience. He was incredibly courteous and understanding and I was so impressed with both the quality of food and customer service. I would highly recommend this place!

I've been here twice and the inside of the restaurant is very clean and has ambiance. The wait staff is Indian and it may be difficult to understand or get a clear understanding of what you are ordering but they are very friendly and attentive. Indian food has a base level of spicy so all the dishes I feel has some spiciness to them. Honestly I am not very familiar with ordering Indian food but we wanted to try something new. We ordered one curry dish and another dish. I can't remember the name of the dishes but there is a short description of what you're ordering on the menu. Both the dishes we got were very good. I've had the chicken and lamb curry on separate occasions and they were both very flavorful. Comes with rice but I like to order a side of nan. One order of nan is 4 pieces. The garlic nan has a lot of fresh grilled garlic pieces all over the top. Very good if you like garlic. Sometimes ordering Indian can be like a game of roulette but just try it and have an open mind. I know Indian food has that stigma of making you sick afterwards but I felt fine after both times eating their food. The food seemed to be prepared well and fresh.

Absolutely best south indian food. I used to go there when I was in India. I came here for Disneyland trip. I went there 3 days in our 5 day trip in Orlando.
(5)Free S.
Lunch buffet was atrocious - no chicken curry dish at all. They had goat curry which was just ok. Tandoori chicken was lame and way too dry. Chicken in the biryani was too dry as well. They need to learn how to cook chicken and keep it fresh and moist by cooking it just the right amount instead of overcooking it. Pakoras were horrendous and better left untouched. The dosas were outstanding and the service and friendly and prompt.
(3)Manan S.
For south Indian dishes same taste as Sankalp in India. Those who have been to Sankalp in India before will definitely love it. other day we ordered Punjabi food. which was mild and not tasty at all. But the taste of Dosa, Sambhar and all the chutneys couldn't take any stars off the review.
(5)Santh S.
I dined with my family here on 12/29. The chicken biriyani was bland and tasted lightly like dish soap. They probably have not rinsed the utensils well. The chettinad uthappam was very average as well. This place needs to improve in food quality overall. I am disappointed and will not be back again.
(2)Johanna C.
The food took a while to come out. The table and floor were sticky and some of the plates had noticeable food stains on them. The ambiance would have been nice if people would have kept it clean. There was random clutter in the corners such as workers' personal effects. The Bengal fish curry and Biriyani were very good, but the rotis were over cooked (hard) and the paneer afghan burgee tasted like cardamom spiced hand cream.
(2)Deepti K.
Was pretty disappointed, didn't feel the server knew their menu. We ordered barbecue chicken kebabs and was ok. My salted lassi was really sour. Chicken Lagu something was ok. Overall didn't care for food. Don't think we will be going back. I must add the servers were trying there best to accommodate, but unfortunately menu didn't have much dishes.
(2)Stephanie R.
love their food! We always get the non vegetarian curry dishes with nan to go. We would eat here more often if they were closer. Never really packed which surprises me. If you like Indian food or want to try something new, check them out.
(4)Kevin P.
The only thing good there was the paneer. Everything was just bad. In one thing they put too much vegetable in the other they put too much oil and in their other their was too much spice. I wouldn't go there again. One of the worst dinners I had on the trip.

Been to Sankalp twice with my girlfriend now, we always get great food, but the service is just not up there with the rest of the elements of this restaurant. It's nice in there, clean and cool looking menus, but the waiters are not explaining what's on the menu or checking if you need help, they are also extremely slow and a little rude at times. Will come back for the food, hopefully they will have new waiters there then.
(3)Jenni J.
The food here is great. The service needs help. We've been to this restaurant many times. They have messed up something on our order every time. This time we ordered an entree, it was never brought to us. We probably won't be returning any time soon. The food is really good, but the lack of good service is reason enough not to return.
(3)Chris M.
This is our second time coming to their lunch buffet. They have a decent selection and all of the dishes were fresh and well prepared. Service is a little subpar, but this is a lunch buffet after all. We will be coming back for dinner sometime soon and I will update then on the service aspect as I am loving the food. One word of advice, if you aren't familiar with Indian food it is SPICY. Be ready to breathe fire. :)

Surprised at reading some of the reviews with lower ratings, maybe waiting for a new place to work out the kinks worked in my favor. Met Sandi W here in our continued quest for exploring new and different Indian restaurants in Central Florida. We usually order off of the menu, but the buffet was very inviting and frankly, the menu was HUGE. So many categories to go through with lots of nice selections- so we figured sampling through the buffet was our best bet to get a representation of the preparations offered at Sankalp. My standards weren't on the menu, so I'm guessing that has to do with the North & South Indian cuisine being featured. The Buffet was $9.99 and I thought that was a fair price for the meal offered. The warm buffet had plenty of non meat (vegetarian) options, there was also a Goat curry, chicken curry and a fish. The fish was grilled salmon coated in a spice rub, while the flavors were great, the fish was very dry. Sandi mentioned the saucy curry with Chicken was tasty but the chicken was dry. The vegetarian dishes were great, I'd order any one of them again. Also included was a small salad bar and a dessert, we were full after the buffet so we didn't get around to the other items. The restaurant was very busy when we were dined for lunch. Sandi and I both liked the flavors in the dishes we tried, both commented on the spice level being amped up, especially for a buffet. No complaints here, just be aware. I tried many new dishes that I would order again, so I'm starring them up. Service was friendly, we were given menus upon request, waters refilled promptly and I requested a side of Tamarind which was quickly brought out. The Chef replenishing the buffet was very nice.

Great tasting food same as the one in India. Near Florida mall... Subji are not overly spiced yet tasty when ordering from menu....

We stopped in for lunch on new years day. I was a bit worried given the poor reviews, but it was delicious. We would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone.
(4)Amol B.
The ambience is good and the service thought tardy was polite and respectful. However, the food had too much Coconut. We have never had coconut in paneer dish!! The choices weren't a lot but given it was a week afternoon and the competitive price, it was ok. The dessert gulabjamuns were too sweet. Would not recommend to anyone or go back again.

The old Saffran location on Sandlake & OBT has a new establishment called Sankalp. I'm told the name means "determination". The to go menu says this is North & South Indian Cuisine. Okay. As if...as if this Fl. cracker would ever be able to discern the difference? Oh, it's not all about me? I opted for the Buffet (a.k.a. easier way to order) since the entree names are quite intimidating for me at least and you'll find the menu entrees aren't numbered like the Chinese often do. Names like: "Idli Vada", "Kozhi Sukha", "Thayir Boondi", or "Hyderabadi Dastarkhaan"! (this is starting to over heat my spell checker) are no doubt speaking to the Homeland Folks. There are detailed descriptions below the names so you can meddle through the choices effectively. I'm sure once eaten, enjoyed and identified, you stand a better chance of remembering what it was called and how to pronounce it! Perhaps I'm just lazy in this regard too. The $9.99 buffet was good. I actually went for my very first stab at "GOAT something another" with rice and something veggie looking. Wow, I'm impressed that (to my pallet) it may as well been beef. Of course all the other entrees I tried were good and for a buffet food, was not hot, but warm enough to not be concerning. Lets face this fact together. I'm way too culturally-culinarily ignorant to give an effective blow by blow entree rating, so an "all was good" will have to do on this one - from this one! : ) The odd restaurant floor plan layout has not changed. I find the dining room sparse in decor but airy and uplifting. The employees are friendly, helpful and attentive- even for the buffet dinners. Give Sankalp a try. Even if you may not know exactly what all it was you had for lunch, the experience can still be a positive and fulfilling one. I'm quite Sankalp-ed to return again.

I'm not one to give bad reviews but I urge you all to save your money and buy candy or something better. I was so excited to try this place out. It's located near the FL mall, next to the Patel brothers grocery store. Here's the short list of pros and cons. Pros: 1) Ambiance is decent 2)Tables are clean 3) Menu is somewhat "pretty" Cons: 1) HORRIBLE SERVICE 2) RUDE waiter 3) Extremely overpriced food 4) TERRIBLE FOOD 5) RUDE manager 6) Uncomfortable seating Like I said earlier, I'm not one to give bad reviews but they deserve it. The staff was not helpful in explaining things to my very American boyfriend. The food was SO expensive in comparison to other Indian places. I'm from India so I have the right to also say that the food was horrible. I would rather eat my own foot than have food from there again. The curry was basically cold and the consistency was that of brothy soup. Creamy curry should not be brothy, Also, I'm pretty sure the spice tray is basically recycled because I felt sick after. Okay, so that's not even close to why I'm giving this place a terrible review. Basically, this hard of hearing guy came in and started soliciting to customers which was wrong but whatever. The owner basically starts yelling at him instead of saying he isn't permitted to solicit. The owner legitimately yells at the man and raises his hand at him and the deaf guy is speedily walking out. This made me and other customers so uncomfortable. I can't even. If you are deciding to go here - please don't. Go eat candy instead. Anything but here.

I was here a few hours ago for the first time. In terms of quality it was good. Specially, the chief made our Subz Murg light spicy and Chicken Tikka Masala super spicy as we ordered. The tables were clean and the waiteress was friendly. Overally it was good but not super good. ;-)
(4)Saurabh S.
This is so far the best authentic south indian food I have ever had in US. We were quite late in reaching the restaurant and reached there just before the kitchen closing time. The hosts were very accommodating and allowed us to rather order it in. The food we ordered was served very fast and was presented beautifully. The servers were very friendly and helped us judge the right quantity of food to order. This place provides plenty of options for vegetarians.
(5)Bathala S.
Good foodd!!!! Waiter explained everythin with do much patience .. I would definitely recommend this to my frn
(5)Gigi L.
Food taste has improved recently. To stay in business and gain support from locals, service needs improvement ( example, the female waitress doesn't seem to know whats happening around her most of the time ). And for the price they charge the food quality needs to be much better !
(3)Neelesh K.
First impression is the last impression. It was my first visit to this restaurant and i must say it was a pathetic experience with one of the most slow service ever experienced. Food was okay. I would not recommend
(1)Anil R.
I just had the lunch buffet and was very disappointed. There were not many options on the buffet and the items that I tasted were not well seasoned. The price has also increased. I was here about 4 months ago and it was very good. I don't know what happened.
(1)Aniruddha D.
Disaster serving... They don't know how to handle when the tables are full. The manager including the staffs had very rude behavior. Chicken meat and paneer were not fully cooked... curry tastes horrible... will not recommend to anybody. The managment guys should go back to the school to learn how to behave with their customers.
(1)Ali S.
Service is slow and prices seem a tad high for the quality of the food. Dosas are good but the tandoori platter was average at best
(3)Gemessa R.
This place is really good if your looking for something low key. It's never really packed, but the kitchen always seems busy. They do offer carry out which is probably why. But regardless the food is decent faire and the staff is very accommodating and friendly.

1. I had to clean the toilet seat with soap, water, and a paper towel before using the restroom - and I'm from a farm in Tennessee. 2. As negative as I want to be about the food, I guess it wasn't too bad for a $9.99 lunch buffet. Not a lot of flavor - and you expect flavor when you walk into an Indian restaurant. 3. The light fixtures were on point. I need them for my non-existent, high ceilinged, city loft. 4. They didn't play music for around 20 minutes and then played the first 5 seconds of like, 15 songs before finding one they liked. End of list.
