YEAH !!- This is review #100 of my 100 YELP Challenge. Happy to end this commitment on an olde legend in Orlando times! ************************ Step back into 1962. Yep. They must have a few things right if your business has endured 53 years. Yeah the remodel has been trumped by so many different things (I'll bet), its kinda cool being preserved as is. I ordered two thighs w/ fries and slaw. A pirouette and forward step, my order of fries was going into the cooker. The chicken was soon to follow. So, it isn't FAST FOOD folks but it is good food. STILL - I moved here in 67 and remember it from back then even. The slaw was not too wet, or dry, and just shy of sweet- PERFECT fo me. The fries, after getitn the side of mayo to mix with the ketchup were plentiful and wonderful - unlike the fast food joints fries. Do something different for a change- go back four decades and check out why Olde Dixie has endured so many bad political economies for yourself.

This place is old and looks like it probably did in the 50's. That gives it a very retro vibe that I enjoy. The fried chicken is very good, as you would expect in a place that has been around forever. I liked the slaw, but think there fries are just so so. I would suggest getting a different side. This place is popular, and usually has a bit of a crowd inside. You can dine in, but I usually take out.

I loved everything about this place. From the golden fried chicken to the macaroni salad. Mom and Pop places like these that have been in business 56 years are a gem in any town. Why do people even look at McDonalds nuggets when almost every town in the united states has some one frying up chicken correctly in it. The dinner roll was soft and sweet as was the service. Cathy was a wonderful server and even helped me clean up a spilt drink. Thank you Cathy! Also....... The Decor was fabulous please check out my pictures!

So you walk in and you're like wtf am I doing in this place? Outdated decor, weird ceramic chickens on the walls... Until you have the freaking best chicken of life. Seriously I bow down to the person who made that recipe. Staff is super sweet and fun, excited to hear you're a first timer. Love this place. Heard there moving to Oviedo and now I'm ready for the far drive!
(5)Kate S.
Just passing by the place w the decades old sign made me want to LOVE this place. But there's a difference between quaint old and dirty old. This place is filthy. I've gone w friends who insist on eating there in the musty super smelly dirty dining room. I always leave feeling super gross. The chicken used to be better. Now the pieces are unusually small and its dry. I have not been back since my last visit. I can't get past the dirty floor.
(2)Ricky C.
Good chicken ... horrible service... I mean yeah they are proud of their rebel flag so if you a minority just get your food and get out asap or one of the staff might say or do something you might want to hurt one of them... let's just say they lucky my girl is pregnant

Best fried chicken in Orlando. Perfectly crispy without excess breading. Perfectly seasoned without being salty. Served with a mountain of fries and great tasting cole slaw. It's a hole in the wall, but you're not here for the atmosphere. Inexpensive and absolutely delicious - how can you beat that?
(5)Brian B.
Best fried chicken you will ever have. Do not go for atmosphere. It's a total dive. But these places do have the best food! Get a 2 or 3 piece meal with double fries or fries and cole slaw. You will not be disappointed!!!
(5)Lisa A.
If you want sexy ambiance this isn't the place for you. If you want delicious fried chicken and the best sweet tea around...it's here!!!! This place has been around for ages and you can definitely tell by the dated decor and seating area but the fries chicken speaks for itself and it says 'Get the Cluck in here'!!
(4)Zack R.
Our office orders Old Dixie (or as we call it "Greasy Chicken") several times a month. It is always hot and delicious. I don't see how anyone can have a negative review of their chicken, I have never had it any better. The pieces of chicken are not huge (like Publix), but the quantity of fries more than makes up for it.
(5)Jess E.
The chicken is fried in peanut oil so it's extra crispy and light! I also appreciate the simplistic menu and old school decoration. Sounds silly, but my favorite thing there is the sweet tea.
(4)Dorea M.
They have great fried food and especially the chicken. The sides of fries, potato salad, macaroni salad and baked beans are good too! I was really surprised last Saturday when their fry machine was down and of course we didn't stay as their fries are a staple to compliment their chicken. (I couldn't quite figure out how they still had fried chicken but not fries...go figure). The service is average due to the very relaxed staff who on occasion you can find talking about things that shouldn't be discussed in front of customers. The place has been around a long time and is really in need of a facelift and upgrade. This is a great place for a quick bit to eat whether you take out or dine in. Unfortunately, they do not have a drive thru.
(4)Chris E.
THEY NOW ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS!!! Just STARTED taking cards 2 months ago!!! Awesome!!! Staff is sweet and the chicken and sides rock!!! Great non franchise fried chicken spot. If you wish to dine in, the dining room usually closes 1/2 hour before the restaurant does.
(5)Melvin S.
They have good food. I don't really have any complaints. Some of their dishes are a little pricey but it's worth it. It is located in convenient place south of downtown
(4)Jeff C.
Rundown old school fried chicken place. Gizzards were great. Not quite as good as Maryland Fried Chicken but still worthy. One star off for lack of vegetable sides. Could have used greens or green beans but only had cole slaw. Good service. Would go back.

Hey Partner, Get ready to be blasted back with John Wayne and chicken. This place has some of the best fried chicken in the city I think. Light and Crispy is the best way to describe it, and when you finally sit down in their dining room, you will be greeted by the many tributes to John Wayne and a mass of patriotic bald eagles. Just go, you will love it.
(5)Mark D.
The fried chicken here is soooooo good! Not too greasy just perfect and tasty. The Gizzards are also great.
(5)Brittany C.
It's cash only. lets be clear when you go inside its like you went back in time... service: HILLS HAVE EYES FOOD: AMAZING...
(4)Sabrina P.
I crave Old Dixie all the time.
(5)April W.
Best fried chicken of my life. Wonderful service! Get your gizzards here!! Whatever they are! Definitely coming back!
(5)Erica F.
Their Fried Chicken was good but be careful not to let the roaches crawl on your plate. The potato salad was also good but I didn't care too much for their baked beans (way too much molasses for me).
(2)Alex E.
Good prices on very good fried chicken. When I came in, service was a bit... scattered? There were 3-4 ladies at the counter and you just went up to one of them, told them what you needed, and they would put your order together and call you when it was done. There was a lot of milling around and asking if someone had been helped yet and asking if someone else was there first, etc. The orders went out in a decent amount of time though, so I can't complain. I ordered the three-piece fried chicken dinner. It came with two sides and a roll. As previous reviews have mentioned, the roll is some store bought thing they throw in there. Don't pay extra for it, but it's not so terrible that it can't be used to sop up some spare gravy or something. The mashed potatoes were OK as were the baked beans. The chicken was the real star of the show here. Crisp skin, good level of seasoning, and tender/juicy meat. The food is well worth the price and the chicken is some of the best I've had in the area. I would come again.
(4)Wayne C.
the chicken here is really good. i mean, really good.
(4)Daphne M.
I was just there today have not been for years and will never go back as we were walking out several roaches are the sitting area and floor when one of the workers lift up the rug they were everywhere 100's of them I will never go back thank god everything was fried that we ate. They should be closed down for how dirty this place was and the workers didn't seem to care as if this was a daily issue.
(1)Megan W.
I grew up eating Olde Dixie, so here are a few tips. Cash only, probably will be the last cash only place in the state at some point. Sure, the other reviews are right, service isn't always great and the roles are sometimes stale. Yes, it's old and hasn't been remodeled, but this place has been around for 50 years without changing much, so obviously something is right. That something would be the chicken. It's what I compare all other fried chicken to and everything comes up short. The cole slaw is also amazing. It is the only place I will order cole slaw from. And the fries. Yummy.
(5)Aldo F.
Simply really good fried chicken. Don't expect stellar service from this place, just go eat and enjoy the fried chicken. Oh yea they only accept cash wtf! Last time I was here was about 4 years ago and I thought by now they would've catch up with today's standards, but, no these guys still store their recipes in floppy discs. I would have given it 4 stars if they would accept CC. So yea bring cash and enjoy your chicken.
(3)Marky M.
I haven't heard of this place, but I saw the sign and just stopped in to try the food. This chicken joint is retro and has a funky smell, but the chicken is good. I might be trippin' but the cash register is from the 60's so they take cash only. The building is also throwback. The lights, the wall, the ceiling, the tables are all straight from the 60's. For the side, I had some weird mash potato with gravy and that one tasted like a microwaveable one, but the chicken is what matters. Skip the roll, it's stale and as hard as a hockey puck.
(3)Brandon P.
Best fried chicken in orlando area. Bold statement huh. But it's true... To me at least. Restaurant is run down but I think it adds to the feel of the place. People of all races and ages come here to eat. Not only is the chicken delicious but those fries are soooo tasty!!! Could have better side items but if you get the chicken and fries you won't leave disappointed.
(4)Rhaj K.
Fried Chicken like you would make at home. no muss, no fuss. Just as finger lickin' good as other fried Chicken, but with a home made twist. Don't let the looks of the place intimidate you.
(3)Cindy B.
Great fried chicken! They make french fries the old fashion way... DOUBLE fried! Always good food! Try to stop here at least once a month!
(5)Joshua B.
Wow. This place is old school. Cash only. It feels like grandma's house with the old chicken and rooster paintings and figurines. Chicken is really good and cheap. Fries and apple turnover are good, potatoes and gravy is ok. The focus here is the chicken plain and simple. Better than KFC.
(4)Mary H.
This is the best friend chicken ever! I've been going to Old Dixie since I was a kid, and nothing compares. It's always a family outing going to Old Dixie, my dad actually worked there when he was a teenager. We all have our usual orders, I get the two piece dark. Mom loves the chicken breast. Dad likes the gizzards. You can ask them to specialize anything, we like our fries extra crispy. Their side of mashed potatoes and gravy is the perfect dipping sauce for the fries. Try it, I promise you'll like it. It gets 4 stars from me because the building is about a million years old and isn't the cleanest place. They don't even have a bathroom inside. If I drove by the place not knowing what awesome chicken was inside, I wouldn't stop. But if you can get passed the paneled walls and sticky floor, you will not be disappointed. No one has ever been disappointed by Old Dixie. Give it a try and chicken will never taste the same again.

We picked up some dinners to go one evening because with a name like Olde Dixie Fried Chicken you figure it has to be good. Besides the place has been here forever and has a sign with a chicken wearing a rebel flag hat. The restaurant itself was very warm, maybe even without AC on a day where the high was in the 90s and it was fairly dirty inside as well. They were running low on chicken so we ended up not getting the choice of meat that we'd wanted. The chicken itself was good, but I still prefer Popeye's. This chicken had good seasoning but was a little too greasy. The cole slaw wasn't anything special but was better than the macaroni and potato salad I tried. The mashed potatoes were decent but didn't blow me away. The biggest disappointment were the rolls which are just the cheap store bought variety. The best thing about this place is that it is CHEAP. A three piece meal that came with cole slaw, mashed taters and those crappy rolls only cost $3.75.
(2)TheHouse O.
greasy, smelly old place. Close it and let something nice be built on that lot.
(1)Toni W.
Chicken is what this place is all about. Very good prices they certainly fill the boxes I usually get two breast dinner which comes with a dinner roll, coleslaw, and fries. The fries travel very well, always crispy, I think they are fried twice, whatever the secret they work! Chicken is always good I've never had a complaint. The dinner roll is a nice addition I usually fill mine full of fries, my own personal "chip butty" the coleslaw is a standard pre mixed one nothing out of the world but a nice extra. It has a small seated area to the left side but I've always had take out so no comment from me on the "restaurant" side. Ive never had to wait too long they have a smooth system that works. This place is in need of a makeover it's very dated but maybe that's part of its charm. What ain't broke don't need fixin I guess. This place does great chicken that's all that matters. I'm a fan and would much rather fill a mom and pop pocket than a chain!

Went to get fried chicken today. I saw a guy from the back kitchen came to front and got the tray of fried chickens ( I guess the chickens were cold because of leaving it outside for hours) and took to the back and put it back in pressure fryer to refry.it . After that he then took the chickens out of the fryer and put it back on the tray. Then the girl took tray of refry fried chickens and sell it to customers. I can tell that the girl tried to cover herself in front of the tray when she puts the refried chickens in the box for customers.

Dixie fried chicken is a great place to go for lunch. It is a mom and pop ran fried chicken stand. This is pretty much home-made fast food. (They cook and hold the chicken to have it ready to serve quickly). They have a server that attends to the small dining room on the side. Usually this person keeps the place clean and adds a bit of charm to the service. Everything I have had here has been delicious. They loose a star because the place could use some new ceiling tiles and a coat of fresh paint.

This chicken is AWESOME!! great tasting beans :)
(4)Paul R.
It's strange to have a place that proudly displays the rebel flag be probably 50% staffed by African Americans. If you're looking for such bizzare juxtaposition, then go no further than Olde Dixie Fried Chicken. The chicken itself is really pretty good, nothing over the top and always a little dry as it sits in bins under heat lamps, but solid for what it is. The prices are bargain basement. Two people can eat very well and get out of there for $15. Cash only. No credit cards. If you're looking for a quick, cheap bite on this side of town, Olde Dixie is a good option.
(4)Ashley H.
I love Olde Dixie Fried Chicken. Nothing beats a huge box of chicken and crispy french fries. Healthy? No. Satisfying? Absolutely. The only thing I have on my wishlist for this place is collard greens. I have never eaten in the restaurant, as we live down the street and choose to go. But the staff is always friendly and the food is always good. It's not meant to be a fancy restaurant, it's a fried chicken joint...and it's a landmark in the area. Oh, and it's cash only which is a bummer but there's plenty of ATMs around.
(4)M T.
absolutely poor. There was a ice inside my kid's chix nugget. Uncooked chicken. The joint is dirty, but that is clear as soon as you see the parking lot, then into the cafe. no one on staff was over 19 years old. They were redneck cute as others say, but not food professionals. This place is dangerous.
(1)Jeremy B.
When I want fried chicken this is where I go. That's not very often. Its better than the chain places. Its always fresh and the sides are good. Good sweet tea. Its not the best looking place but give it a chance. The redneck women there are always nice. Cash only.
(4)daphne m.
Yes this place is old but the fried chicken is really good. My kids order the chicken nugget and never had a problem. Cash only
