The Milk District is an up and coming neighborhood. There is quite a bit going on here, and the potential for much more. Some hardworking people have been creating a very eclectic scene here, and it is becoming a popular night time destination.

I've been going to the Milk District for about 4 years. It reminds me of a similar crowd like NYC's East Village did in its more eclectic past. At the beginning, I really enjoyed going to the Milk Bar, Spooky's Black Cat Cafe and Social Chameleon, all 3 of which I feel put the area on the map. Yeah Sportstown Billiards and Bull & Bush have been there a few decades longer, but you can find smokey pool halls and bars anywhere. The new establishments were giving the area some new character. Unfortunately, Social Chameleon closed a couple years ago, or tried to blend into Spooky's (or something like that), and then Spooky's itself decided to move away from the district and didn't do well in its new location, eventually closing. But from their ashes, and I really do miss them, new establishments have replaced them. making the area just as popular. SpaceBar, with their throwback 70, 80 and 90's nights. Gringo Locos, expanding their taco franchise from downtown to the area. Tasty Tuesday's and their food trucks keep people coming. And the Milk Bar is still hanging around, with the Sandwich Bar (which used to sell some original tasty sandwiches when it first opened, but is now more of a lounge with no food.) On the outskirts of the Milk District, a couple blocks away from Robinson, on Bumby, I also enjoy going to Pom Pom's Teahouse for their creative sandwiches, and Barley and Vine Biergarten for a drink on their outside patio. There's so much more around that I still haven't tried yet, like the Plaza Theater and Se7en Bites. There should be something for everyone here!

I love close by and I can be a pretty territorial being. Like a firemouth cichlid, or a little rat dog foaming at the mouth. The Milk district has become my place. Tuesday used to just be the day that follows Monday but now It's Tasty Tuesdays. Some of the great food trucks frequent this meetup spot. Bem Bom, Cara-bama, Sushi and Seoul on a roll, etc. Find local musicians playing at the Milk Bar, go on into Space Bar for some pinball action, and play pool at sportstown. Grab some drunk food over at Gringos Locos. Enjoy the Shit Sandwich Comedy show at the Bull and Bush and buy a scotch egg. Get all unclassy and shit and go to whiskey Lous for some dranks. Take in a show at the Plaza Theater Live. Enjoy breakfast and baked goods at se7en bites and then go to Kyle's Bike shop, buy a bike and work off the calories. When I was sick i got some great vegan soup from the Drunken Monkey. When I was well I got a great sandwich at Pom Poms. Don't forget to order the german potato salad. I also once stalked Jimmy Fallon as he ordered a Beefy King sandwich and some tots. The Milk district is filled with so many interesting things. it's worth a venture out.

Oh yes, our lovely Milk District scored recognition from CNN!!! ( yelp.com/topic/orlando-c… ) That's pretty fabulous if you ask me. Why is it called the Milk District? Cause it's located next to the TG Lee processing plant. =) They have tons of great local businesses and put on some awesome events as well. And they have their own Food Truck Pod on Tuesday evenings now which is awesome cause there are so many bars within walking distance. Shopping/Beauty: SpaceBar (Covert) The Drop Shop Etoile Kyle's Bike Shop Little Joe's Primrose Tattoo Parlor The Book Worm Vinyl Richie's Wiggly World Of Records Class Acts Salon Doggie Daycare Eats & Drinks: Beefy King Bull & Bush PomPom's Teahouse and Sandwicheria Sandwich Bar Spooky's Black Cat Cafe and Milk District Marketplace Sportstown Billiards The Milk Bar (and soon to be Beer Garden) Drunken Monkey

Seriously, what is the deal with all the hype for this place?? Like most of Orlando it is underwhelming. I don't get it. The four dive bars on Robinson bars are cool (love the Milk Bar...play some pool at Sportstown) but they open late because the place looks like a ghost town until 8:00. They are nothing special. I find the area infinitely preferable to downtown but that is not saying much. You can get the same vibe at Oblivion and hang out with a much less pretentious crew. They make a big deal about the "vintage" bike shows here so if you are into scooters and ton up bikes you might be impressed (but I doubt it). There are some pretty decent places to get a bite (Gringo's is excellent cheap eats but as of a week ago there is no seating to hang out and eat) and Pom Pom's (great sandwiches, teas) and a cute place or two to shop but it is not hot spot people claim. The first time I came out here I couldn't even figure out what I was actually supposed to find. It was a Saturday afternoon and nothing appeared to be open. There is a lot of potential here but the hullabaloo at this point is just flat out not justified.

For what it is, it's worth a visit. I sure wish these places would play music you can actually dance to. Aren't the '80s in again? Play some of that music. Good beers, places to play pool and chill with friends.

my favorite part of town. good bars, company, and food away from the awful clubs downtown.
