Jamaican block party in your mouth! I'm quite new to most Caribbean cuisine but I'm a proponent of massive flavor. I've heard good things about Golden Krust and despite the negative connotations that usually rear their nasty head when the word "chain" and "restaurant" are used in the same sentence, my girlfriend and I decided to give it a whirl. Curry goat with rice and peas for me: Delicious, relentless fists of flavor pound the palate with every bite. The goat itself was fall-off-the-bone tender and the chunks of carrot and potato were delicate. The curry is thick with the obvious star being curry powder. Its heavy on the garlic in a good way with bay rounding out the flavor profile. I've never taken a beating that I enjoyed this much! Oxtail for the lady: Much less subdued, more like a firm familiar hug from someone or something you can't quite place. It was delightful, rich, and sweet. In my humble opinion, a caramelization of sugar started the base of the braise, followed by red wine, and again rounded out with garlic and bay. It was delicious, but much to rich and sweet for me to have more than a couple bites. We got a free beef patty for checking it. I had a bite but was much to engaged in a battle of will trying to finish the massive serving of goat! The pastry was crisp and the beef filling flavorful. Everything one wants from a solid patty. For the record, I'm not kidding about the block party. There was literally a hype man singing the reggae blaring from the speakers and handing out bootleg copies of what was playing. The interior colors are bright and and Caribbean inspired. If your ever in need of a good jam party you can refer to the many advert posters on the wall hyping the local parties. Great food, good vibes, all around fun experience in cuisine and culture. I will be back with a empty stomach and a palate ready for the title fight.

Fantastic low key Jamaican spot. When we got there at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon, the line was almost out the door which I took as a good sign. Service was fast and friendly and the food was great. Also, unless you're sharing with 5 people, don't order a large because my takeout box weighed about 10 pounds. Combos come with meat, rice, steamed cabbage, plantains, and a drink. Prices are very good for the amount and quality of the food.

Golden Krust has some of the best Jamaican food that I've ever had! (not better than home cooking though, of course) I came here and ordered the ox tail with rice and peas as well as some cabbage and fried plantains. I got the large size, and I finished less than a quarter of it because it was so big! The oxtail was super tender and flavorful. It was falling right off of the bone so it was perfect! The rice and peas were also good. The steamed cabbage was a great little side and the plantains were sweet- just how I like them :) Considering the portion of food that you get, I'd say that Golden Krust has pretty low prices! I swear, this food lasted me 3 meals. It's a bit out of the way from where I am, but it's definitely worth the drive!

I've been to many Caribbean restaurants in the Orlando area and this is by far my fave. Better than Bob Marley's.....yes, i said it. I've had pretty much everything on the menu. It's like walking distance from my job so I go there all the time on my lunch break. They have daily lunch specials....for like $6 you get an enormous portion of food. I usually have leftovers for dinner. I think the Stew Chicken is my favorite....I've had it in Jamaica before and there's is dead on. The oxtail is awesome, the jerk chicken is awesome, the beef patties are awesome.....you get the point, mon.

What a find!! As out-of-towners we had trouble finding a restaurant that wasn't a chain in the mess that is Orlando so we turned to Yelp and were not let down. The food at Golden Krust was excellent. To be honest I don't know the name of what we ate but it was chicken in a broth with beans&rice. And macaroni & cheese. And a cabbage salad. And two mild beef patties. For $11. Let me repeat: food enough to feed two people (one of whom is my bottomless pit of a fiancé) for $11. We couldn't finish all of it. The location seemed to be in a run-down part of town but I didn't feel uneasy or unsafe. The staff was very helpful (though at times a little hard to understand - thick accent plus loud music) and handled a yelp check-in coupon without fuss. Overall a great choice.

I am addicted to Carribean Food eversince I have tried Goldenkrust! My NYers make fun of me because they feel I am "late" experiencing this type of "soul food" per say. I have probably gained extra LBS eating from here at least 3-4 times a week! I have tried their Braised Oxtails, Stew Chicken, Rice n Peas, Cabbage, Mac n Cheese and the Plantains. Braised Oxtails - Similar to Mama Nems but with a Carribean kick. fall off the bone tender meat and the "gravy" is delicious especially over the rice and peas! Stew Chicken - Tender fall of the bone chicken! Love the brown gravy! Especialy again when poured over the rice and peas! This is an all time FAVE and the oxtails when it comes to GoldenKrust eateries! Steamed Cabbage - LOVE! So tender yet flavorful and crisp. It has a slight mixture of corn, green beans and carrots. LOVE this side dish I order an EXTRA side because its too damn good! Mac n Cheese - Tad bit dry and grainy for my taste for what I am used to. Still ok. Kind of bland as well. Plaintains - Not too soggy but fried right. Rice n Peas - This has some slight spice to it but very delicious on its own! Its somewhat similar to cuban rice n beans but this has its own carribean taste. Full Meals costs about $8-11 depending what you order. You can get "Express" meals for have the price especially stew chicken! Just mention the ad outside window and depending on who serves you they will give you a "meal" for $4.99! Staff are friendly however - You have to tell them sometimes to pack some food on there. They can be shy with the meat n sides.. LOL They also serve delicious "beef patties" which are imo the carribean "empanadas".hey also serve authentic carribean baked desserts and "drinks"! For a quick fix of Carribean Soul Food - This is the place to go!

Deicided to stop in and im so glad i did. Had the stew chicken with rice&peas, cabbage and plantains. My only complaint would be the plantains, they were cold and hard but everything else was great. Also the beef patties were very good and fresh out the oven.

Since I've moved to Orlando, I've gained a few um..... *cough* pounds *cough*! I'm woman enough to say that it's been because of my eating habits at all the wonderful eateries in the "City Beautiful". However, I am proud to say that Golden Krust will not be a reason for future weight gain! :-) That's good... right? I really wanted to try jerk chicken, but I was really disappointed that they didn't have any on the evening I visited. So I ended up getting the curry goat (which I haven't had since childhood), rice and peas, and cabbage. I mean the food wasn't bad. Actually, it was fairly good, but my meal didn't leave me wanting more. It really was nothing that I would rave about. I will say that Golden Krust definitely reminds me of some of that down home Jamaican cuisine I'd become familiar with growing up, but this wasn't the best I ever had (in my Drake voice). BONUS: The environment really felt like a Caribbean restaurant, which was definitely a plus! They carried a lot of Jamaican/Caribbean specialties that you can't find at a regular supermarket. I REALLY enjoyed that! One day I'll get around to hopefully trying the jerk chicken. Perhaps that visit will lead me to write a much better review.

Golden Krust has a lot going for it. It's a counter service restaurant with a large number of options on the menu. The employees are friendly, and the portions are huge! I ordered the Jerk Chicken meal (small), which comes with salad, plantains, and a metric ton of rice and beans. Even the small size is more food than my ever-expanding belly was able to handle. All of it tasted great. The jerk chicken came with sauce on the side (a tiny, half-ounce cup that I could have used three of), and while that sauce was excellent, I only wish that there was some extra heat. My favorite Jamaican restaurants out by my neck of the woods present you with jerk chicken that relies heavily on the famous/infamous scotch bonnet pepper that adds some serious heat to the meat. The flavor of the sauce at Golden Krust is delicious, if only it had been spicier. Overall though, it was an excellent and filling meal, and since I forgot to take advantage of the Yelp offer of a couple of free bits with checkin, I'm definitely planning to return to try some other items.

Good food, fast service, and the people there are really nice. The food is fresh and you get a generous amount. Usually one dinner will last me for two meals!!

So much food for more than a person! That's always a plus. On top of that, it's great authentic food. I wanted to try one of everything. Good for to-go orders.

Decided to give this place a try because I was on that side of town, based on reviews, and the awesome check-in freebie! I was welcomed with wonderful island music as I walked in which started off my experience on a good note. There were so many items I wanted to try but I settled on the jerk chicken meal which came with rice & peas, steamed cabbage, and plantains. The amount of food was enough to feed 2 people and then some! The jerk chicken was well-flavored and because I got white meat, it was a tad bit dry. I didn't really care too much for the sauce that came with it because the chicken was already tasty on its own. Make sure to check-in to receive a free patty and coco bread! The beef patty was flaky, beefy, and delicious! The coco bread was served warm so it paired nicely with the rest of the meal. Can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu!

The food is great but, The manager was not there and the cashier was new so I did not get my free patty with my meal purchase because she claims to know nothing about the yelp offer.

Not sure what the fuss is about the place. I love me some jerk chicken when its prepared right. Sadly this is another place that doesn't measure up. The sauce is straight from a bottle off the shelf of a grocery store. It lacks true substance and flavor. Maybe one day I'll find a restaurant who makes their own Jerk sauce from scratch. My quest contunes.....

Make sure that you visit Zorida and Ravi's new Golden Krust location at 2753 Hiawassee Road (Corner of Silver Star and Hiawassee). The store is absolutely BEAUTIFUL...same GREAT food and GREAT people!

Had a hankering for some Caribbean-style cuisine and Golden Krust popped up in my handy Yelp search engine. I was also sold because I was able to get a free beef patty with check in! I would say at best Golden Krust is just ok. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, rice, cabbage and plantains with my free beef patty to-go. My chicken was spicy but pretty dry, the cabbage was cooked well but could have used a bit more flavor, the rice was ok but the plantains hit the mark. My beef patty was very traditional and delish! I could have ate 2 more of those! I don't know if I will dine at Golden Krust again...I may just go back for some beef patties. You do get a large portion for $7 that could feed two people. Meh at best.

This place makes me happy. I love eating food with my hands like a good piece of fried chicken or nice crusty piece of pizza. The name Golden Krust doesn't scream Caribbean, but the food definitely fits the bill. We got the oxtail and the chicken curry. The oxtail may be the best oxtail in town. It has a nice beefy flavor and the hint of sweetness which makes it crave-worthy. The chicken curry was very good as well, but do remember that you have bones to work through. Both came with a side of stir fried mixed veggies (think food court Bourbon chicken veggies with cabbage as the main ingredient) and they were cooked well (still a bit of toothiness and not mushy). Ask for a side of their scotch bonnet sauce and you're good to go. Would definitely come here again. I think it's a bit better than Singh's Roti Shop.

Oohkay.....so I wanted Jamaican I've been wanting it for a couple of days now so my uncle took me to this place. Coming in it smelt wonderful the line was moving at a nice pace and as I began to look at the menu is got really excited! Everything looked good and smelled great. Being that I'd never been there before I was a little hesitant with ordering. I wanted the jerk chicken plate and BBQ wings. Well the cashier was a little impatient, pushy, and snappy! I didn't appreciate that..when I asked for the jerk chicken she responded with we don't have chicken you mean wings but the menu clearly said chicken! Then once she fixed the plate she rung it up and gave me my total without even asking if I'd like anything else. I finally got all of my order out and the price was a bit high for Jamaican but I am also used to corner store prices for two plates, beef patty and a slice of cake was $24. Once we got to the house to enjoy our food I was disappointed. IT WAS ALL DRY the beans and rice the jerk wings the cabbage, the cake. I am soooooooo disappointed. The BBQ wings were good though a little salty but good. It took 3 cups of water to get through 4 wings and cabbage lol I liked that they gave a lot of food and although not what I was looking for in taste it was fulfilling. I was especially saddened by the cake being that red velvet is my favorite the flavor was good but like everything else it WAS DRY!! Ambiance: 4 stars; The lighting was good, atmosphere inviting and there was seating to dine in if you'd like Food: 3 stars; SO DISAPPOINTING DRY DRY DRY AND DRY Drinks: 3 stars; they had a nice selection of authentic juices but nothing else Service: 3 stars; I didn't like the feeling of being rushed and she wasn't very friendly

Love this place I was so surprised! This was the first time I have tried Jamaican food and wow super yummy! I had curry chicken rice and beans the chicken was so tender and their chicken wings are also out of this world. The area is mehh but once your inside its so clean food is fresh and ready

Son to a Jamaican mother in a tight knit Jamaican family...Meaning I grew up eating Oxtail, curry chicken, curry goat, calilou, ackee & Saltfish and all the other great dishes Jamaica has to offer. That being said, I've tasted the real deal and these guys have the real deal when it comes to Jamaican food. I personally can't cook it and I know I get the thumbs up when I bring this home to the family. Their Spicy beef patties and cocoa bread are delicious! Friendly and fast service with healthy portions. Last time I went I had the curry goat and it was right on point.

First time having their patties was actually at a Jamaican restaurant in Las Vegas that ships them from the east coast. Being able to actually in a restaurant was dope!! Despite of being a franchise, as I have gone to other locations in NYC, dishes here are certainly authentic. This location is quite remote and sketchy as we were one of the four parked in the shopping center. I appreciate how they were still putting out fresh food when we walked in at 7pm. I decided to go for their oxtail stew that comes rice and peas, cabbage and fried plantains ( bit.ly/1psbxFh ). I may be overhyping it when I say this oxtail stew is the best I've had but it really is a panty dropper!! Meat easily falls off the bone and that sauce... oohhh that SAWSE. TIP: ask for extra gravy of whatever dish you end up getting over that rice. As far as their patties, I usually go for the spicy beef. I'm glad someone serves them all the way in Las Vegas because they're so good I'd have it everyday. Overall, Golden Krust is perhaps one of the best Jamaican restaurants I have gone to in this country. Feel free to prove me wrong but this'll do for now. I will definitely come back whenever I'm around the area.

Food was fresh and cooked well. I ate curry chicken, oxtails, and jerk chicken from here. My favorite is the curry chicken. Don't forget to try the rum cake, I enjoyed it. Make sure you take advantage of the online coupon thru yelp.

Wouldn't have known about this place if it weren't for my cousin who is a HUGE fan of Golden Krust, because I ain't gonna lie, the patties here are YUMMMM! Located in a shopping plaza with Aldi and an Asian Restaurant and I think business store, it does look a bit sketchy. But don't mind it and go right to the restaurant. :P I haven't tried any of their entree foods here yet, but I eventually will. But my eyes are directed right to the patties and nothing else. SPICY BEEF, SPICY BEEF, SPICY BEEF. This is one of their biggest sellers and trust it can go quick, but luckily the random times I have gone, they got some stored in back. So just ask :) Even if the name does say spicy, it's just a hint of heat to flavor everything and it won't burn. Down it with some Cream Soda or Kola Champagne and you my friend, have one of the best combos ;) Staff here pretty friendly and place is kept clean. So if you're ever in the West side of the city, definitely stop by. If I can make the drive, you can too ;)

Visited this place around lunch time and it was a line. There was a guy selling cds/dvds on the side. Food was ok. Not the best Jamaican good I've had. The beef patty was dry and the mac n Cheese was disgusting. Only giving three stars because I had the jerk chicken abd rice with plantain n cabbage and that was good.... willing to try another location closer to my hometown. Prices weren't as bad. Abd they had a variety of Caribbean foods. There was ref refrigerated island punch available by the bottle as well.

It's like a fast food jamacian spot. Food wasn't the best but it definitely hit the spot. I had the oxtails which is my favorite but they had a lot of fat on them. Next visit I'll try something else.

I had high expectations prior going to this here establishment. I had the steam fish by default because they were out of curry chicken and also jerk chicken; which is understandable since we ordered 45 mine from closing time. The steam fish was not bad. The patty (free with check in) was great as usual. The goat soup was kinda malnourished IMO, wasn't the right consistency and overall blah. The atmosphere in this place felt like a corner shop on Jamaica. There is a very wide selection of nyammings. Will go back tomorrow to try something else and a bit earlier. Day2 aka tomorrow : curry chicken was ok but I wanted dumplings and food with it and it again "run out". If I could only get what I came in for. 3.5 STARS

The worst service for this chain at this location. Counter girls are rude. Each time I visit this location they have run out of patties early in the afternoon. Drive a couple miles extra and visit location on Silver Star

Definitely better than the Golden Krusts up North! More spacious, although dated. The jerk was nicely spiced, and the portions huge! The stew chicken and peas and rice were also quite satisfying. A good stop when you're craving some decent Jamaican food!

  • Tracy L.

Maybe it's because I don't know what authentic Caribbean food is supposed to taste like, and I had high expectations prior to coming because of all the rave reviews but this place isn't something I would return for. Service was great when I ordered at the counter which is part of the reason why i give 2 stars. Food portions are huge but both the jerk chicken and festival fish were dry and lacked flavor compared to what I'm used to eating. Not really a fan of all the greasy fried bread rolls either.

Jerk chicken was excellent. The gravy (which is optional) is very good and spicy. The beef patty (pie) is very good and spicy. The sides that come with the jerk chicken luncheon is not seasoned but other than that very good chicken.

A well managed Jamaican restaurant for the yardies and the masses (everyone else). The set-up is cafeteria style, walk in check out the menu on the board, check out the food in the hot wells, place your order, grab a drink from the cooler (good selection of Island and local beverages)pick-up and pay. Good for dine in or take-out. Good selection of reggae music playing in the background. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner and I'm a regular for all. Here's what to try and stay away from. Excellent: Their traditional Jamaican breakfast offering - ackee & saltfish, callaloo, boil dumplings and green banana. Patties have an excellent crust and good filling. My favorutes are the curry chicken and spicy beef. Steam cabbage, hardo bread. Chicken soup Good: Jerk chicken, most meals, though put way too much rice, rice & beans, plantains, mannish water (usually on Fridays). Not so good: Eschovitch fish, jerk wings are too dry. Stew chicken.

First of all, their customer service SUCKS!! I don't care if it's the beginning of the day or the end of the day!! Also, if you are out of something, PLEASE TAKE IT OFF THE MENU!!! Also if you are checking in to get the free patty, you need to print off the offer and bring it in. Food is a'ight.

Experienced the Friday evening out the door traffic on my visit, the oxtails & patties seemed to be must orders for he people in line who waited 30 minutes to order. I went back for my favorite soup & tried the Gizzarda(coconut ginger pastry. Delish not too sweet, & just right for $1.25.

This was by far THE best food I've had in Orlando in the past 3 days. They have a ton of choices for most, from beef patties, to curry goat, to jerk wings. I had the curry goat, which they give you a solid heapin' of it. It was very tender and had a nice little bite to it from the curry. Their sweet plantains were some of the best I've had, the wife absolutely loved them. They were very patient and didn't try to rush us a long, they also explained what the items were to my father in law, who is as clueless as it gets when it comes to Caribbean food. The best thing was the price. 3 of us ate for $21. We actually had left overs, couldn't finish it all. It's in a less affluent part of town, which is fine by me, so it's not the most aesthetically pleasing place. Really though, if you want good food, you have to get away from the touristy places, where the prices are high for average food. Good vibes, nice people, and great food. What else could you possibly want? I really hope we can get back there before we leave.

This is definitely the best in Orlando! The oxtails are great and you have to get the cabbage. I've tried the jerk chicken, stew chicken and curry chicken with rice & peas-all great in my book. Service is friendly and the place is always clean with good vibes-you can tell that good vibes go into making this food! And they are inexpensive-$6 and you have a meal for 2
