Hadn't been here in years, ate here today and I can't believe I had ever stopped. Overstuffed old school sandwiches, and very friendly and nice service. I was told, "Once we serve you, you're family" when I asked for a refill (which I walked behind the counter for) and I absolutely felt like it. Will be back soon!

I have lived in College Park all my life and grew up on these sub's so I am partial. This is a great sub's shop w a wonderful staff! They have the best sub's on the softest bread! Plus curly fries and crushed ice :) can't beat it! If you don't like Gabriels then go back to where you are from BC its not college park!
(5)Kari L.
YES YES YES! Few people understand the value of a GREAT hole-in-the-wall sub shop, that meets expectations every time. Consistency is key, good service, good food and FAST! We love this little spot in our neighborhood!
(5)Nick S.
I have been going here my entire life! The staff is awesome and the food is equally as awesome! I'm not sure what type of pickles they use but I am OBSESSED with them! Why go to subway or any other sub place? This one is the best!!!!!!
(5)Todd L.
All bun. One slice of meat. One slice of cheese. Weird sweet pickles. No vinegar. Lots of lettuce. Very sub-par submarine sandwich compared to its competition.

Dirty, scuzzy establishment with the worst customer service you will ever experience. It's more like down trodden biker bar that sells food and anything else. It's directly next to the high school and they treat everybody like kids and their giant jerks. The food may be OK but the customer service is awful. I just walked out of this place because of this. Every two or three years I give them another chance and they never disappoint. It is the worst customer service experience you will have in Orlando. This place sucks. The word sucks does not describe how bad this places.

Been eating here for a couple of years now, used to have one in Ocoee in the 80's and one in Pine Hills thats how I got hooked. Their footlong regular is the best, nowhere else have I had a sub this good. The crunch of the onions and sweetness of the pickles combined with the soft bread is amazing. A footlong regular,no make it two, basket of staight fries and a large root beer and I'm good!
(5)Jim W.
Excellent subs. Quick and has a home town feel. Been around forever. Doing something right!
(5)Yvonne L.
This seems to me like a family operated joint, friendly folks. I ordered the special which had turkey, ham, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Their pickles are very tasty and has a hint of sweetness to them. They charge for various other toppings, like if you want jalapeños or cheese, which I find less appealing about the establishment when they nickel and dime you. But overall the sub was tasty and I would go back if I'm in the area next time.

Breath of fresh air considering the other sub shops in the area. Obviously the rest of college park agrees (hence quizno's closing)...which is why I don't understand the negitive reviews. Yes, the line can move pretty slow sometimes but when you are the one getting your sub made it's nice to have a friendly conversation with the staff behind the counter. I can go months without going to gabriels and every time I go in they ask about my new house and my job. They actually remember me! Its amazing! I can only name a few other places in orlando where that happens. I love gabriels for their subs and service.

I've been going to Gabriel's for decades now, and I always order my favorite: tuna with provolone cheese and extra sweet pickles. That's right--they use sweet pickles, something no other sub shop offers. It's a knock-out of a sub. I've even made my children and grand-children fans of the place. My little people love the meat roll-ups and french fries. They also offer fresh scooped ice-cream, something you may not realize.
(4)Gretchen G.
I have been going to this sub shop for 27 years. It is always consistent and they are my favorite subs in Orlando. Every time my family comes to visit this is where I take them because it's all so good. Now I bring my kids here and my daughter loves their wings. My fav is the cheesesteak which is always full of meat yummy!

Had a sandwich here, I was seduced by the "tradition" behind this place. Maybe subs just sucked 40 years ago, or they just changed owners, or they are just cutting corners? but the sandwich I ate was nothing special... i mean, it was just a plain, incipid sandwich that hit the spot, yes... but won't be bringing me back to have another one.

The people were so friendly, and welcomed me to the neighborhood. We ordered two subs and curly fries. The cheesesteak was flavorful, with melty provolone, onions, and juicy (but not overly soaked) steak. The 'regular' sub (a typical italian style meats sub) was fine. Less flavor but certainly a generous portion of meats. The fries were a little less 'fried' than I would like (some of them were a smidge soggy) but the flavor was good. Definitely enjoyed these subs (and I rarely go for sandwiches) and will be back.

I went in and couldn't even get a eye contact from anyone working. It wasn't lunch time, but maybe it was a busy time with after scool kids. I wish the owners / managers would learn to use a deployment system to greet, take orders, ring up sales, etc.. No one even looked at me and said they would be with me in a minute. That's just missing opportunities for the business! I walked out after about 5 minutes without being noticed. :( I don't know how they survive in today's world much less all the years they have been there. Disappointing

While waiting for my order I noticed the employees getting containers of food from the back, while still wearing the same gloves make your food. I asked the employee to change gloves and he actually threw a fit and walked away. Money is better spent a other food joints.

I used to go to Gabriel's sub shop when I was in high school which is 30 years ago, I probably have not been to one in 25 years and was in the College Park area today so I thought I'd try it. I completely agree with Holly K.'s review that 'it's not as good as you remember". The staff was super friendly and the service was fast, but the sub was just okay. I will go back when I'm in the area, but I wouldn't drive a long distance just for these subs.
(3)Astryd R.
Great subs!!!!!! Definitely stop and have a sub! Steak and cheese is yummy!
(5)Garrett L.
Omg completely awful!!!! But the people were so nice.

Ate again at Gabriel's. My family grew up in College Park and have enjoyed the wonderful Steak Subs for over 50 years. The food and the service were great, again. Today was special. Paul Gabriel, the founder age 87, was there and I had a chance to say hello. My best wishes to Paul Gabriel and his family.

What is the appeal of Gabriel's? I would guess longevity. This old spot in College Park packs 'em in every day of the week. People come from all over to order mediocre to downright rank subs. And they've been doing it for years and years. Go figure. It seems as though everyone knows everyone else there, and they know the protocol. I didn't, so I followed the signs. I went to a spot that said "ORDER HERE." Wrong, the cashier took my order. Then I finally picked up on where to stand and wait. While waiting, I looked around the place. Miss Orange County had a signed photograph on the wall! I swear it's true. But the neatest thing of all is that they have homemade signs from God - like "What part of 'thou shalt not' do you not understand?" and "Don't make me come down there!" Evidently from the God of the Old Testament.

If you live in Orlando you have to try, at least once, this Orlando classic. There is a lot of history at Gabriel's and the subs are solid. The staff is friendly and helpful and the subs are hearty. Inside the place looks like a old eatery with the classic hard table attached to two hard benches. The crowds at Gabriel's at lunch time should be a testament to the good food.
(4)C R.
Gabriel's is an Orlando institution. Their sub rolls are so soft that any sub they make is delicious. My favorites are the regular and the tuna with sweet pickles!
(4)Joy J.
My old job @ winter park introduced me to this sub shop. My boss would allow us to order subs for lunch and he pays the tab. Their subs are pretty good -- In which I don't have a fave sub in particular. The funny thing is -- Im really picky about sub sanwiches due to the quality of deli meat they use -- This place use fresh ingredients. The bread is SO SOFT!
(4)Dan B.
A modest sub shop that has been in Orlando for like 51 years. The walls are peppered with memorabilia and old photographs of the store and the surrounding area. I loved the staff. They were very folksy. I had a simple stacked ham and cheese sandwich. I put spicy peppers, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, american cheese, oregano, salt/pepper, and oil/vinegar. It came on a soft wheat roll. It was great. You could taste that it was fresh and the ingredients were above average quality. I like the simple atmosphere, the history, the simple yet tasty sandwich, and to be part of an Orlando classic.

Sadly, I don't understand the greatness of this place. Sure it's been around a long time, but the food itself? Not all that amazing. I went here for the first time today, since my co-workers were telling me how good it was, and I left feeling disappointed. I ordered the cheesesteak, which was definitely a no-no. First off, they make the subs on bread that could only be described as big hot dog buns. To me they're too soft... and cold! Now, I don't know about you, but when I order a cheesesteak, I'm expecting hotness. The staff was helpful when ordering, yet I did feel a bit rushed. I guess that's what you get when you go at lunch hour. It really was pretty packed. Perhaps if I ever go back, I'll order a cold sub and see if it changes my mind, but I doubt it. Besides, the bread is just too soft to be considered a sub for me.

This is one of those cozy, local places that really delivers. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday, and the place was packed with friendly folks chowing down on subs. I can't really go into too much detail on the sandwiches because, well, they were subs. Deli meat, cheese, iceburg and condiments on bread. Simple, easy. But they were prepared nicely and the bread was indeed as soft as the previous review describes. It's only a buck or two more than Subway, and which is totally worth not getting your clothes covered with SubwaySmell(tm). I appreciate their sizing their subs in 6, 8, and 12-inch increments because 8 inches is what god obviously intended as a man-sized sub. Speaking of god, he's represented in several kitschy quotations on boards hanging from the ceilings. If He eats there, then you know it's good.
(4)Holly K.
I've been coming here for years since I grew up in the area. Maybe it's that whole 'It's not as good as you remember it', the atmosphere is the same, the staff is incredibly nice and helpful but it doesn't feel quite the same. Subs are still good though so I would still say give them a try! If you like a sub spicy, try the hot peppers, they will certainly add a little zing to the sandwich!
(3)Mike S.
I really do not understand this place. The place has been around for 50+ years and you can tell. The decor and sandwiches have not changed at all. They are very basic. Ham, roast beef, and american cheese. It reminds me of an old workin man's lunch. Plus, they still cost around $8 for an 8" combo. For that price, I can have a lot more options. I did order their wings once though. They have a good flavor and are big.
(2)Nick J.
I would love to give them 3.5 stars because while I think the subs are just average, the tradition of Gabriel's for being a college park institution for over 50 years makes the subs taste just a little better. Overall, however, the meat is nothing special and the bread is basically just an oversized hotdog bun. When it comes to subs I look for 2 main things, great bread and quality meats, and Gabriel's strikes me as surprisingly mediocre on both counts. The people working are always extremely friendly and personable, and for the experience alone I'd rather go here instead of a place like subway any day. However, given that college park has a Publix nearby (one of my favorite subs) I'm not sure I would go out of my way for Gabriel's again. Something you should know, they use bread & butter pickles (the sweet ones) instead of dill, so if you're like me and don't want sweet pickles on your sub make sure to order no pickles.

My decision to dine at Gabriel's is influenced solely by its proximity to my house. The next closest sub places are either Quizno's or Subway. The subs are very, very basic. I've had standard subs, such as a turkey and ham with cheese, as well as items like the cheesesteak (probably one of the better items on the menu, although it is eclipsed in taste by just about any other cheesesteak in the city), and none of them are the type of thing for which you'd have to rush over TODAY. Curly fries on the menu are a definite bonus, and they also have a small selection of hand-dipped ice cream for dessert. The indoors will remind you of a fast food restaurant circa 1970, and there's some outdoor seating as well. All that said, the staff is always super friendly and it seems to be a family-run business. I suppose that's a big part of the reason people go in the first place. It's also pretty cheap. Don't go wild and you could probbly get out of there for $8 or so.

This is my favorite sub shop in College Park. I usually get the Regular or the Cheesesteak. The new Grinder sandwich is good, has a huge amount of meat, and is a great deal. I also love the wings and they don't mind combining flavors, my favorite is the hot teriyaki!

Edit: I've finally figured out why the reviews here are so mixed. The bottom line: Some of their subs are superb, others are not good. You don't want the owner making your sub, because he skimps out on ingredients big time. Do: Order the "Regular" sub. Add extra pickles and when they ask which types of peppers you want, say "hot". The combination of hot and sweet is amazing. Do: Order the Tuna. They douse it in paprika and it's just a good, basic tuna salad. Do: Order the "Veggie" sub. It's really good, loaded with veggies and two types of cheese. It's as hearty as one with meat in it. Do: Order the WHEAT bread. It's very good and the right amount of softness DO NOT: Let the owner make your sub. He uses half the ingredients everyone else does. DO NOT: Order white bread. It's so soft you can't hold it and it's completely tasteless. DO NOT: Order the Philly Cheese. It's not good. If you order the right sub, it's a great place... Soft bread, good ingredients, just the right amount of peppers and oil...

Basic food, decent price, nice folks. No wonder they've been around 50 years. My favorites are the ham and cheese with pickles and mayo or the cheesesteaks. And the shakes are gutbusters!

Visited last night for the first time with a friend. The staff is friendly and the place has character and has friendly regulars. The staff seems to be super friendly to regular customers, more so than is first timers but when it was our turn, they were delightful with recommendations and patience. We both for the cheesesteak subs but I got mine with the hot peppers which was DELICIOUS. I will definitely be back to try one server's favorite: buffalo chicken sub. Other recommendations from some friendly customers were stacked ham with pickles, wings, and the party sub.

This was a great little sandwich place that I stumbled across while driving through College Park. The first thing that jumped out of me was the sign that said how old the place is, which once you inside you will see that the place is older but well maintained. I ordered the cheesesteak because the guy taking my order said it was very good. Also got chips (or fries are an option) and a drink for just over $10. The food came out quick, and the employees working there made it very comfortable. Great little spot, I am definelty coming back. I only marked the spot down one star because my cheesesteak could have been a little hotter.
(4)Celeste B.
This place is cool. The people who work here are really friendly. I felt like I have known them for a while and they seemed to know me as well. Super down to earth vibe in this place. I like that. That's fucking important. I ordered an 8 inch vegetarian sub with provolone cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles (their pickles are bread and butter pickles I believe), hot peppers, oregano, and oil/vinegar. It was delicious. It was my first time here so I didn't know how high the stack of cheese was gonna be. Next time I will ask for less cheese, but if you like cheese they will not skimp you on the cheeses. I enjoyed eating here. It was fucking decent.
