Good Dim sum in Orlando. Need to get earlier for good variety.

For Orlando, the food here is the best so far. We have been here 6 days and have not found good Chinese food until here. It was quiet for a Thursday night. Only 2 tables but the service was good and food is pretty good. Too bad tonight is our last night otherwise we would have eaten here more often on our trip. We ordered the pork with Peking sauce, Ma po tofu, tofu fish casserole and plain veggies. All the dishes were delicious and decently priced. The Chinese tea was good too.

$2.75 for Hot Tea?! Seriously!!? I have not stepped into Chans for years. This day craving dim sum and it was about 3-4 tables occupied. Steam carts were around the tables .. The part I didnt like is you do not know how much each dim sim steamer will cost you because its all in chinese. They mark in circle how many quantity you order and thats all you can understand also if its a regular dim sum or special. Obviously special will costs you more. Items ordered were custard buns, 2 orders of siu mai, har gow, bean curd rolls, jook, greens, hot tea and soup dumplings. That set totaled $29 plus! YIKES!!! The jook was served in those small soup bowls too! Ugggh! The greens were cold and jook had no flavor but thick! Siu mai were small and not exciting no hints of mushrooms or shrimp, Har gow was shrimp paste, bean curd rolls were okay, Soup dumplings had no soup inside! Custard buns were good but the topping kept flaking off once you bite into it. I will be sticking to the dim sum near Sapporo Ramen area. At least over there everything is steaming hot and cheaper also portions are bigger! No more Chan's for me! That $2.75 for hot tea is foolish!!!! That should be complimentary!

One of my coworkers recommended this restaurant for Dim Sum and since we've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant we decided to try this place. It wasn't terrible however we won't be going back. The ambience was blah- it's in need of an update. This was the first time I've ever had Dim Sum & as soon as we were seated they came by with carts full of different foods. The process wasn't explained & neither was the food. I had to ask & it felt as if they were in a rush to dump the food on your table & move on. We sampled various different items & none of them were that good. We'll keep looking for a good place.

Had the general Taos chicken for lunch yesterday. It was okay, not the best, rice was overcooked, sauce was passable, and there was minimal chicken, but for $6.50 and including soup I'm not one to complain much. Unfortunately however, within an hour I felt like I was the guy from alien and general Tao was about to burst through my stomach and I was only able to get over this pain by giving into the Asian montezuma and his revenge. It's now Saturday night and I have made 4 ill-timed and overdrawn deposits to the account of the porcelain god. Thankfully it's only coming out of one orifice (am I allowed to say this on yelp?). To call it digestive issues would be an understatement akin to calling Jurassic World's profit margin "a pretty penny." I was hoping to wait until the bowel distress had fully subsided, but alas, I have nothing better to do right now.

Very authentic Chinese food, the dim sum is the best in Orlando. We love the fried tofu, bean curd roll, shrimp dumplings, baked bbq pork puff......It could be crowded and noisy during weekend or holidays, but it's worthy to try. Love this placeï¼

There used to be a line to get into Chans with no parking so I always stayed away. I noticed when driving by recently that there was tons of parking so I figured it was time for me to check out their dim sum. When I got to the door I noticed though how the outside of the building was in disrepair and gloomy. Being positive and hungry though I entered inside to a beautiful room. Very ornate and definitely Chinese inspired. I was seated quickly and there were only about six or seven tables eating. I waited, waited more and flagged someone down. They had a dim sum cart but I was first interested in a beverage, menu, etc. After receiving that, I was ignored yet again. Eventually receiving my dim sum I was disappointed in the temperature but the food. Also, the eggplant was swimming in too much sauce, the food was bland and I was still waiting for a beverage refill. Getting the check was another problem. It happens...poor service, poor food. But then I observed the most sickening sight. As I was on my way to the restroom I saw their 2 fish tanks. One for lobster and the other for fish. In both tanks (to be served to customers) the fish were dying...gulping for breath and huddled together for warmth. The tanks were so filthy you could barely see through them even up close. I couldn't even tell what type of fish they were. My heart broke and my stomach ached and I paid my bill and left as quickly as possible. Current health inspection-3-high priority, 1-intermediate & 9-basic violations

Went with friends who recommended the dim sum. Very good! Lots of choices, and the price was very reasonable. People walk around with carts and you select which items you want. It was getting very crowded at lunch so get there early!

Decided to try another Chinese restaurant for dinner, we ordered lettuce wrap w/ minced clams which was delish, the best dish we ordered, must try. The fried taro over roasted duck should have skipped, snow pea tips think they ripped us off and the pork chops did not try but my companions said they were good. Again thought the dishes were small & expensive compared to NYC Chinatown.

I ordered General Tso and Wonton Soup togo. When I got home I discovered ICEBERG LETTUCE in my soup. The whole mess tasted like the stuff. I threw out that liquid salad after a spoon full. As for the General the sugar water, soggy, flavorless chicken strips didn't resemble anything of the crispy, spicy, tangy bites of heaven that General Tso is usually. This place is definitely NOT for me.

Came here with my family for dim sum on the weekend. Was glad that this location had the Dim Sum carts. The place was packed but we didn't have to wait that long. Service was fast and the staff was polite, however they were not very fast in refilling drinks or answering to requests from the guests. The food was great and would definitely come back for dim sum, not sure for regular dinner service.

Delicious food! A def must for Dim Sum. And if you go on a week day, the Cantonese sweet and sour pork is amazing!

After trying a few places around town my family has settled on Chan's as our go-to place for dim sum. First of all my husband thinks dim sum MUST be served from a cart, and Chan's has carts. And those carts are constantly moving through the dining area bringing all kinds of tasty treats. My favorite dim sum item is the chive dumpling. I need to look up a recipe, but I'm pretty sure I could never recreate that deliciousness. I'm also a big fan of the eggplant. My kids love the pork buns, we usually get a couple orders of those. Dining here is fast-paced as there is always someone stopping by your table and be careful because before you know it you will be stuffed. I have been here only once for a non-dim sum meal, that that left absolutely no impression. But dim sum on the weekends is awesome. Go, have fun, and try something new. (Please don't be the people at the table next to us ordering typical Chinese take-out food if they are serving dim sum, they are SO missing out.)

We have been coming to Chans for at least 15 years. It's a neighborhood authentic Cantonese style Chinese restaurants (southern Chinese cuisine) that also offers the Americanized Chinese dishes like General Tsos Chicken. Back to the authentic Cantonese cuisine, they have many different types of casseroles in earthen ware (seafood, chicken with salted fish, etc), different preparations of chicken and other meats, and many fresh vegetables prepared to you liking. If you see other Chinese people eating there, you know it's gotta be good.

It is very attractive on the inside with beautiful dragons with glowing eyes and the sign outside is awesome. White cloths on the table and excellent service. Our waitress was checking on us frequently and was polite. I also liked the watermelon they give you free for dessert. The food was not very good; I had Kung Pao and it was rubbery and the sauce wasnt really memorable. I stopped eating it pretty fast. My boyfriend liked his sweet and sour pork though and it was presented in a beautiful dish and looked appealing; it tasted a little better but still, nothing work going back to. They give you a ton of food though. It was also sorta pricey - cheapest meal is like 11 bucks.

Average dimsum with above average service. I didn't go during the all you can eat service, but all the staple dishes were present when I went. Both the shumai and hargao were decently priced and the quality matched. The egg tart was surprisingly delicious, but that could just be my personal sweet tooth. I was most impressed by the service. Our waitress was attentive and constantly refilling our teas and waters. Great service and not a bad dining experience overall.

Came here on Christmas based on positive reviews... We waited at the door for several minutes before we were even acknowledged. We waited for another minute before we were seated in the less than half full restaurant. More time passed before our drink and food orders were taken. Fine, they were giving us our space? Then, 30 minutes in, they bring us wontons and duck sauce for the table. Another 30 minutes pass, still no food. No word from the server either. We asked for an eta but they just said that they were busy and the food was coming. Lucky for us we have leftovers from a delish Christmas Eve dinner last night. I'd tell you how the food was but we got tired of waiting. Btw, dinner at home was amazing PLUS no lines or waiting.

Our go to spot for some great weekend dim sum! Food is fresh and tasty. Staff is attentive and friendly. Don't miss out on this great Central Florida spot!
One of the many great Chinese restaurants on Colonial Drive. Family and I ordered the Assorted Seafood Bean Curd Casserole and Chicken And Eggplant With Salty Fish Casserole, along with some seasonal vegetables sauteed in garlic. I would definitely recommend the two casserole dishes, which were authentic and super well-made. The chicken and eggplant dish was very soft and came out sizzling hot and remains sizzling hot for half an hour, so be careful! It's pretty salty though so it should be eaten over rice. The seafood and tofu dish is served over a flame and must be stirred occasionally to prevent the bottom from burning. It comes with large, fresh scallops that are cooked to perfection and very tender squid. However, we asked that our vegetables be cooked with little to no oil and the dish was dripping in it. There is lots of seating in here and they also have a range of complimentary tea as well as orange slices after your meal. However, the service was abrupt and condescending. Come here for good, cheap, authentic Cantonese food!

Came to this place twice because the other few dim sum restaurants in Colonial were so busy and we were hungry. The service here is terrible. Upon entering the door, nobody cares to say a hi or hello. We usually stand there awkwardly waiting for someone to come by. The servers don't talk to you or ever ask if everything is okay. They aren't attentive and I always have to flag them down to ask for more water or if I need anything. That especially makes me mad when it's not too busy. When the dim sum cart comes around, the employees are careless and rude. They shout in your face, what do you want? you want this? etc. If you say yes, rudely toss it on your table. Something that disgusts me is the glasses they use for drinks has stains on them. They have brown stains. It's gross and is a huge turn off when you're trying to eat. This restaurant doesn't seem to care about presentation. I'm not expecting the plates to come decorated with flowers and different garnishes but at least wipe the sides of the plate clean of the sauces. It looks terrible and unappetizing. One of the times, I ordered beef chow fun. It came out burnt! You can smell it from afar and it's all you can taste. We had to flag a server down and tell them that it's burnt. Her response? "So you don' want it?" Are you serious? We saw her go tell the manager but the manager did not come apologize for it or anything. They made us another one and it was better but not great. The noodle was not cooked all the way. It was hard. We ended up picking all the meat and threw the rest away. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

This is our special day celebration restaurant. Every time is awesome no matter how slammed they are, the service is always excellent. The Dim Sum is on the level of San Francisco and Boston. Our fervent hope is that the owner will not retire! Thank you so very much - we will be celebrating there tomorrow, as other family members are now designating this restaurant the place they want to celebrate special occasions! Thank you very much for the many years of happy dinning!

The food was good. The chicken feet was noticeably bland. We were one of the first to arrive but were stuck waiting for more food to come around. The other side of the restaurant started to fill up and were being served. We asked what was taking so long and were told "we are busy right now". A cart came by and asked if we wanted anything, to which we replied "yes, we've been waiting" and she rudely walked away and started whispering to her coworkers. We left right after. Not going to wait for everyone that came well after us to be served before us.

Seriously!? Who doesn't LOVE dim sum? Ok, we are not in China town... but Chan's is my favorite in Orlando for dim sum. This place is good enough to do a slamming service on the weekends. If you don't get there early, some of your favorites may be gone. Great place for large groups and the price is phenomenol!

One of the staples of authentic Chinese food in Orlando, you can eat dou miao (snow pea tips), luo han zai (Buddha's delight), fried tofu, crispy double-pan fried noodles... and some dessert dim sum items. Fairly good place, inside is standard, and service is normal.

Just ate here. Spring rolls crispy and delicious. Wonton soup very good. Pan fried dumplings were ok. Sauce with dumplings too spicy for me but that's just a matter of preference. Main course: beef and mixed veggies and garlic shrimp. Both were awesome and tasty. Plenty of shrimp and beef was very tender.

Came here for dim sum on a Sunday afternoon. We were quality seated. The dim sum cart came to our party of 12 right away. The food needed to be heated up more. It tasted good but not so fresh. The workers are quick to serve and yell when they talk. I guess it's an Asian thing. I've been coming here for years and the food is always good.
So I came here on a quick whim on my way out of Orlando and can I say quick dim sum service!!! Okay so I got it To go but they were still super fast at pulling all the carts to my direction and letting me pick what I wanted. The sesame balls were good, a bit on the oily side but what sesame balls aren't? And their BBQ steam and baked buns were ohh so good!!!!! I wished I had gotten more! The chicken feet were also very tasty. One of the best I've tasted and my favorite dish was the short ribs with black bean. Yum!!! I know this place has some negative reviews but the food is def worth a try.

Tried this place on Xmas day and was seated by a not so friendly waitress. The restaurant smelled musty and appeared very outdated . I tried to order what the waitress recommended but was told they were out if it so we ordered lo mein and general tsos chicken as well as egg drop soup. The lo mein was okay but egg drop was way too thick with no flavor. Will not ever go back again

My husband and I have eaten dinner at Chan's twice. It is the closest thing to what we think of as real Chinese food. We both grew up in NYC and are used to New York's Chinatown. Chan's is as good as a NY restaurant. We were there a few nights ago and were the only Caucasians in the restaurant, everyone eating there, and all the servers, were all Chinese. Also, some of the fish that are on the menu are swimming in tanks! We watched as two were caught in a net then brought into the kitchen to be cooked. We live Chan's!

Tolerable food served with a side of unpleasantness. I've eaten here a few times for dim sum and dinner because of friends/family. This restaurant has the run of the mill dim sum dishes, but most of these dishes can be downright unsavory. I'm pretty sure some of them were leftovers ... The entrees are the tolerable food and it's nothing that entices you to come back. The unpleasant part is the restaurant itself. Sitting there for more than five minutes will definitely bring up the question, "Is this place up to code?" When you go inside there is hardly anyone to greet or seat you. That brings up the fact that they always seem understaffed and rushed. No one likes to be rushed through a meal. Try it if you must but there's nothing impressive.

My love for dim sum brought me here last weekend for lunch when I was visiting Orlando. I was delighted to be staying up the street on Colonial Dr, and discovered this neighborhood of Asian restaurants, markets, businesses, etc. The service was attentive, friendly. Decor is okay, nothing fancy. The restaurant seemed family oriented, which I liked. The pork was simply delicious. I tried many little dishes, some a hit, some a miss, the duck too salty, but I surely love the whole dim sum affair, and I will be back next time.

Overall: food was good, service was slow, food coming out was slow, portions were smaller than expected. For what you pay and what you get, I would consider this extremely expensive. Would not come here again.

There's only a handful of dim sum places to eat in Orlando, mainly 3 that locals tend to go to often. The first is Ming's Court which has great food and decent service but super far from me (45mins). The second is Ming's Bistro which has really awesome food but terrible service (the people are so rude and before you leave asks if you tipped them yet) and third is Chan's which has avg. food but at least the service is good (they work super fast and are efficient). Out of all the places I usually choose Chan's because service is a pretty big deal for me. Also I really love their egg custards, they make the best here.
(3)
Shiyana V.
I'm a huge dim sum lover and not just because I grew up as an expat in Hong Kong. Dim sum, when done right is truly tasty, cheap and just what's needed after a night out on the town. Ming's Bistro is our usual go-to, but the crowd was overflowing out the door, so our buddy suggested Chan's. Now I'm very nervous about trying new Chinese restaurants - especially when it comes to fulfilling my dim sum needs, but Chan's stood up to the test and I would go back. The good: the dumplings were fresh, eggplant was delicious, char siu bao (steamed pork buns) were perfectly portioned - not overly doughy and perfectly flavored BBQ pork filling, and roasted pork was really good - not overly fatty or oily with enough pieces with a bit of a crunch, which is what I lived for growing up. The bad: there could have been a bit more variety, shrimp rice noodles were too thick in the dough, and my hubby felt the shrimp in the shrimp dumplings were a little over-cooked, The service was ok - the carts really raced by us so we had to almost trip them to get them to stop by us. It took a really long while for us to get the staple dim sum items (shrimp dumplings, char siu bao) - but that could have been that they kept getting snapped up by the tables ahead of us. The individual waiter was nice enough. I felt that this restaurant was a little more gracious than Ming's but only marginally so. Overall it was a solid spot (I'd have given it 3.5 if I could have), and a good alternate to Ming's - but I think I still pick Ming's over Chan's.

Still excellent. Went here with a group yesterday, had the salt and pepper pork, shrimp with walnuts, roast duck, sweet and sour pork, spicy tofu with spinach and more. (I may be off on some of the dish names since someone ordered for us.) So good!

We were on a pilgrimage to another place on E Colonial Drive. It was a perfect day for a ride on the motorcycles. We stumbled upon Chan's and asked some people on the way in if it served dim sum. They said they served very good dim sum. What is better on a sunny Sunday afternoon? The food was excellent. It was not overly noisy. Lots of families and friends at the large tables. The duck, chicken feet, shu mai, dumplings, roast pork, and Chinese broccoli were all good. Here's the problem. There are two very nice and patient servers with carts. But there are ONLY two for the whole restaurant. We wanted to taste some other items but they never came around. We finally gave up, paid the bill, and left. The place is a deal. They need a total of four carts(two for either side of the dining area) and more employees for weekends. My dining companion was not as impressed. He is accustomed to excellent dim sum restaurants in Boston, NYC, and San Francisco.

We went to Chan's because a friend said it had great food, but our service was awful and the food wasn't anything special either. The server couldn't be bothered, it seemed, to answer anything for us or refill our drinks. It wasn't busy and we still waited a long time for our meals. I wouldn't try it out again and definitely wouldn't recommend it.

I'll admit, I was a little afraid to come to Chan's. The person who recommended their dim sum to me also mentioned that this place might have some health code violations, so I naturally feared ptomaine poisoning and salmonella. I can happily tell you that I survived my dim sum experience and thoroughly enjoyed it. I went out for dim sum with five other people from my graduate program. This was my first experience with dim sum, and I was surprised by the 10:30 meeting time for what I thought would be lunch. However, this was worth getting up early on a Sunday. Two of the people in our dining party were Chan's experts, so they guided us on what to pick from the carts. Baked BBQ pork buns? EXCELLENT. Crispy shrimp and chive dumplings? PHENOMENAL. Shrimp balls? Literally a ball chock full of delicious shrimp. Amazing! I was told to avoid chicken on this adventure, because chicken usually meant feet. However, our table did order some of the chicken feet (although I chose to abstain this time around) and people enjoyed them. We ordered an absolute ton of food, and with tip between the six of us it came to around $13 a person. Not bad for an abundance of food, most of which I enjoyed. This place is definitely authentic, and I'd recommend partaking in their dim sum experience. :)

Came in on a Sunday for dim sum around 11:45 with restaurant semi packed with people. We were seated immediately and served tea and water and behold the amazing carts of dim sum!! Ordered some bean curd, two differnt types of shrimp dumplings, shrimp paste, pork buns and pork ribs. All absolutely hot and fresh and tasty! Only downfall was we ordered some roast duck and it was a bit on the cold side. Still tasty, but not crunchy and warm that i am use to. The service was very fast- carts passing by constantly and servers continuely checking up on you and clearing your table. To give you an idea on how fast service was, we got there @ 11:45 and were stuffed by 12:10. by the time we were leaving, there started to be a large crowd by the door and a line, so get there early to avoid crowds. And all the food we got was awesomely priced!! Cant beat it!! The outside appearence of chan's is misleading, bc the inside is very clean and open. And despite what other reviews have previously mention, i found the servers friendly and very hospitable. Will return and i cant wait!

This was surprisingly and literally the WORST Chinese food I have ever had. It was Sunday night at 8:30 pm and my dad, who was in the hospital, was craving some Chinese food. After reading some positive reviews we ordered general tso, honey chicken, spring rolls and steamed dumplings to-go. Not the most traditional of Chinese dishes but who would have thought you could screw it up so bad! What a disappointment!! The spring rolls were made completely of some kind of meat, so not really a spring roll. The general tso was BURNT and inedible. The sauce was a very dark reddish brown that tasted burnt and horrible. The chicken was so tough you had to naw on it to tear it apart. The honey chicken was also burnt and inedible. It must have been left in the fryer WAY to long. You would almost cut your gums trying to bite through the shards of 'batter' covering the dried out cardboard 'chicken'. Good thing it had a sauce on it to moisten it up... Not. At least the white rice was perfect. I really hope they were having a bad day. It was also the dragon parade and Lunar New Year festival earlier in the day in china town on mills and 50. So maybe their chefs had the day off... But I will not be going back to see.

Chan's was recommended to me for dim sum on cart in Orlando. I don't know if there is the only place on cart that there is, but if so, that is too bad. We were lucky to come here right at 10:00AM on a Saturday, just when they were opening for dim sum brunch. Within minutes there were already five more tables full of people. If you have ever driven by, the interior is pretty much the same as the exterior. It looks old and somewhat dirty. The teapots are also old, but this all seriously adds to the appeal of the place to me. However, the food was fresh, because we got there early and I don't have any complaints. They had some interesting items that most dim sum places don't have like patties of taro and shrimp, covered in potato shavings and deep fried. The Shrimp and Chive dumplings were pan fried, but were not greasy, which is hard to find. They give you hot mustard mixed with chili oil in a serving dish, which really bothered other diners at my table that do not like hot mustard. That was a shame. The chopsticks are plastic here, not the throw away wood ones, which is always a plus in my book. My favorite items are their Steamed Ribs with Black Bean Sauce and the Char Su Pork Pastry. The ribs are tender, plump, and meaty and the sauce is perfect. The Pastry, what is not to like about BBQ pork inside a crispy, buttery pastry. The only items that we did not like were the Char Su Bao because they were small, soggy, and of the frozen variety. I am a little snobby and want everything to be handmade when it comes to dim sum or all food in general that you get in a restaurant. The Sesame Balls have black bean filling and also seem to be pre-frozen, but they did not bother me as much. I wanted to ask if they had Snow Pea Tips or Roast Duck, but we were already so full it would be pointless. Chan's dim sum makes me wonder about their dinner menu, I bet it had all kinds of great stuff. If you like dim sum, live in or visit Orlando, and have not come to Chan's yet- you really should give it a try and let me know what you think.

Great Dim sum. Quick service and decent variety. This is a favorite spot when we are in Orlando. Decor is nothing great, but the food makes up for it. I stick with the vegetable and seafood options, and they have never disappointed. Even the kids enjoyed the experience.

Came in on a random Tuesday night with the place relatively empty. I've heard great things about the place, and to be honest, the food did not disappoint. But the service... I normally give places at least a second chance to redeem themselves but not this time. I understand when there is a rush and sometimes it is difficult for waiters/waitresses to manage tables, but there were only 5 or 6 tables the night we were there. Our waters were never refilled until asked. We had 3 different waitresses attend to our table, each one only coming to our table once. We were not given any silverware and our food was taken to us 5 to 10 minutes apart. I don't care how good the food is (and I wasn't blown away to be honest), but you don't ignore paying customers the way they did.

There are a handful of restaurants in Orlando that serves Dim Sum. Chan's stand out for its consistency, freshness, and abundance of items. Some of the other Dim Sum restaurants seem to be in a constant state of rush, rush in sit down, here is the food, hurry up and eat, now you pay, get out. Huh. Can the last piece of food at least get pass my throat? Forget about how unorganized, under staffed, and under par food they have. Chan's have somehow been able to master the art of moving the masses on a Sunday brunch, so at any given time they are ready for a crowd or a slower day. For the uninitiated gentle readers who are still puzzled as to what in the world is Dim Sum, simple; Chinese style tapas. Little plates of one or two pieces from a huge variety of items. No, not fried rice and lo mien. This is Cantonese style small dishes of meat or vegetable stuffed buns or crepes. Although, there is a full Chinese menu. But why go to Dim Sum and order from the menu? So how does this work? There is always a line or crowd hovering around the entrance. Be brave and nudge your way or allow yourself to be swept up front. Get someone's attention, (there is no host), party of "how many" and off you go. The restaurant is huge and the tables are mostly for parties of four or more, so larger the party the faster they sit you. Parties of two, try to REALLY get someone's attention. Stand by, the minute you are seated here comes the carts of food. Great thing, we all eat with our eyes, the food stares back at you. Usually the carts have a couple of various dishes, ask the attendant to identify them. Another cart will come around and so on and so forth. They will keep coming around until you tell them to stop. Be careful pace your self, no one will rush you here, they may move around the dining room really fast and shout at each other but this is just they way it is. Relax and enjoy. Try a couple of things you might surprise yourself. There are a couple of different types of teas available. I prefer to sip on a pot of hot Chrysanthemum. This is a loose leaf tea so let it steep a little and its okay if a couple of pieces are in the cup. They also serve it with some sugar crystals. Bright floral, nicely balanced tea. The food here is the star. There are items, steamed, roasted, baked, and sauteed. There is something for every discerning palate from steamed vegetables to fowl's feet. Dig in and enjoy.

A quick update on this joint. Since I'm all about second chances, (and third, and fourth...) we went back to Chan's despite an unpleasant encounter, having not patronized them for more than 6 months. I still give them kudos for linen table-cloths, but the tea is still sub-par. A few of the dim-sums were quite yummy, but the har gau still falls apart for no reason, and sticks to the wax paper. The biggest complaint, though was the lack of variety. I swear that, all in all, it was only a dozen and a half choices. And how dare push-cart dim-sum lady become annoyed when she misunderstood that we wanted something, when we only wanted to see what it looked like! One of the good waiters is still there, but that little dynamo waitress whose hustling made such an impression on us was not there. Yeah-it'll be a while before we give another chance.

This is always our go-to place whenever my boyfriend and I are in the mood for dim sum. The servers are awesome and always attentive. They use dim sum carts to show the many food items they offer, but you can also order off a menu if you're not in the mood for dim sum or looking for bigger entrees. Right as you sit down, there's bound to be a cart on its way to your table. I like this type of dim sum service because there's little wait time before you're able to eat. My favorite dim sum items here are the taro balls, fried tofu, and garlic eggplant. They usually get really busy on the weekends (more so on Sunday than Saturday) during lunch time.

One hardly thinks of dim sum in Orlando when all I can think about is Disney World and Harry Potter's attaction in Universal Studios. But, it was a sunday and as most Cantonese people, that means dim sum time! My family and I went here and I thought the food was pretty good, with some dishes better than others. Cool thing about the place was they used push carts (which was pretty aunthentic) so you can see what you are ordering. The Pork bun was very good along with the turnip cake. However, the "ha gao" (shrimp dumpling) was lacking..it felt dried. But, I won't let that ruin the experience. I don't normally eat pastries too much but I find the Egg tarts to be DELCIOUS (and on par with some of Hong Kong's-where I frequent annually). The custard part is glossy and transparent and the crust is flaky. It isn't too sweet and tastes best when hot. Make sure to try one!!

The food here is pretty good though a bit oily. This place is generally one of the places to go for dim sum and is pretty good. However if you're really watching your fats, you might want to avoid this place since their dim sum seems to have more oil than the other good places around. The staff was average, nothing to hate but nothing to rave about either. They did their jobs which is enough for me at any chinese place.

OKAAAAY, after being in the east coast and eating American food, it was time for my tastebuds to go back to their natural selves--Chinese food. So my dad wanted to eat dim sum hella bad, so we yelped and googled lots of different places. We went to this place about 20 minutes from where we stayed--in downtown orlando. However, we were the last ones to come in since it was pretty late about 10PM, so sadly we didnt get a chance to try the awesome dim sum (according to yelpers). Even though it was pretty damn late, it was nice of them to serve us still. the waitress and the waiter were very nice and hospitable. They came by the table about every 5-10 minutes refilling waters, pouring hot water into the teapot, and clearing whatever dirty dishes or napkins we had (probably since we were the last table there actually eating and they were getting ready to close and had nothing to do) We ordered the Salted Chicken (1/2 a chicken which was still a BUTTLOAD of chicken) the big leaf "dou miu" (canto, i dont know what it is called in English) black peppered beef. The black peppered beef was so tender it practically melts in your mouth. It came out in a hot stone pot, and the waiter poured the uncooked meats into the bubbly peppery savory concoction and VOILA, the meat was seared and cooked to perfection...YUMMY.

Chan's is the only restaurant I know in central Florida really worth going out of your way for. Granted it's also the only place I know around here that serves good, authentic Chinese dishes and dim sum, but still worth the drive even if it meant sitting in the car with Placido Domingo blasting for an hour and a half. The dim sum is fresh and the variety is pretty remarkable. They had my favorite shrimp crepes which were perfectly made. The shumai, shrimp balls, har gao (shrimp in that eerie see-through covering), and char siu bao (steamed pork buns) were just sooo yummy . Besides the dim sum, the dishes are tasty and delicious with obviously fresh ingredients. We never got a menu but just told the cook who happened to come outside what we were looking for. She made us these crunchy pan-fried noodles with scallops, shrimp and baby bokchoy in a light, underrated complex sauce. The garlicky Chinese broccoli actually made me want to eat more vegetables. We skipped out on the custards and other desserts and instead headed over for pastries down the street. I really can't wait to come visit again.

Love going for sunday brunch. They open at 10-10:30ish. Get there early because morning service lets out and it gets crowded. Some of the servers aren't very nice but the food is good.

The food is wonderful, the service was beyond good since they would always come by to check on us. We ordered the maw fish soup and the Peking duck. They took off the bone from the duck and the dish just had the meat on it...the skin was crispy and it goes great with bun that came with it. Though it was a bit expensive but the food was worth it.

i've given this place at least three chances but each time, it always ended up as a fail. They have the "all important" push carts that dim sum fans rave about, but I am not the biggest fan of this "traditional" method for dim sum. 1. the food has probably been sitting there for a while by the time it rounds its way around the restaurant to your table 2. they don't always have what you want 3. you have to fight to get their attention. the solution to this is the "list" system that other dim sum places have that assures, at least, that the food is fresh. the dim sum here at chan's is usually too salty and too greasy for my tastes every time i come. not the way i like my dim sum =( i hear their dinner items are great tho!

I read a lot comments of this Chinese restaurant, so last night decide to come. We ordered tofu casserole, eggplant casserole and fish belly soup, and the food was delicious. The service is also very good, and the lady was very attentive, and trying to help. Although we came in around 830pm, and the closing time is 9pm last night, they did not press us. That is good.

The best dim sum in Orlando. My Chinese friend told me that this is the place... that was back in 1995 and her family still comes here once a week from all over Florida for a family meal. The dim sum is fresh and good. I haven't tried the menu items though.

Pretty solid Chinese food here at Chan's. I love their veggie lo mein and their general tso's chicken. A place with a good version of the general's chicken with the perfect amount of spice gets my good graces. The steamed dumplings were good, but not great. The servers there are very friendly and funny. They joke around alot, and I like that. The price is also fair for the amount you get. I just don't come here often because I have a better Chinese restaurant much closer to me on University and Dean. If you're looking for some solid Chinese food in Colonialtown, it may behoove you to try this. If you're craving chow fun, however, go down to Tasty Wok and try the beef chow fun. It's outta this world.

We had dinner here when we are in Orlando for the second day in December 2011. The decoration of this restaurant is not good, and it is a little cold in that restaurant. I prefer food in Lam's Garden.

So ok, we are from Houston, and I lived in LA for a while. We have become accustomed to the huge Texas-style dim sum houses in Houston and were initially disappointed that we could not find anything similar in Orlando. We tried a number of places for dim sum, Chan's is the best for my Americanized / Texas style palate. They had soup dumplings, fried noodles (special order), as well as the usual fare of steam chinese broccoli, shumai, shrimp dumplings, as well as sesame balls, steamed sticky rice in banana leaves, and some unidentified delicious fried dumpling with seasoned pork inside. Went great with the hot pepper sauce on the table. It's a smaller place than ones we used to frequent on Bellaire in Houston, but the dumplings taste better here. The cost of the food is similar to TX too. Our family of 3 eats for ~ $30, which is half the cost of similar food in LA or SF.

This is as authentic as chinese gets in orlando. Chicken fingers, shu mais, shrimp in ricewraps. Certainly not the best but I appreciate the effort and 15 years-ish services here. Waitresses were hilariously rude! I loved every moment that they yell and giggle while pushing the carts, put containers over leaking spots on their failing ceilings. The waitress tops it off with express-ive credit card transaction and we all have a ball with her service! Reminds me of Chinese restaurants in la! authentic food, even more authentic service.

It's truly lives to it's name, the service was kind, the ambiance was quite calming yet moving, and they had me when I tasted the water, it's not sink water for once! I could already tell the food would be great with the first shrimp ball, the ingredients were fresh and really made a difference of the dish. The carts came along and we got all the dim sum we wanted quick. Besides the good food, the service from waiter was above good, they were actually nice which added to the great time. Short and simple the food was delicious, good service, quick to come out and most of all good ambiance

I'm only giving chans one star the food was good but I had a problem last night with the roof leaking water on our table and they didn't seem to have a problem with that but we sat next to the fish tanks and two VERY LARGE RATS ran by us and when I told 3 different employees they didn't seem to mind that we had seen them. Sorry I will not be back the place is very dirty and should be closed down until they fix the rat problem. I will be calling the city about them.

My recent visit was for dim sum and it was just kinda off. Service wasnt that great and the sweet soy tasted fishy. Not appetizing at all. I'm not sure if theres any other cart service dim sum around here thats any good though. :(

I will say, to my surprise dim sum was actually really good. However... Expect authentic Chinese service at the same time. Not really the friendliest for customer service.

Chan's is fantastic. My mom knows the owner (Annie) well, so we always get treated to fantastic food. The dim sum is so good, but there's also so much more! You must try the pork hot pot stew. My favorite dish here is the eggwhites, cream, and shrimp on top of fried cellophane noodles. Divine! They do vegetables fantastically here, too.
(5)

Okay, the food isn't all that great if you aren't Chinese. If you ARE Chinese and speaks Chinese fluently, you get treated to the "special" menu written in Chinese only. It's only from this menu that you get to order the special yummies. If not, yeah, the place is expensive and not all that great. Unfortunately, I'm forgetting a lot of Chinese so I can't fool them into giving me real Chinese food... but when my mom visits, we'd go to this restaurant and I'd taste the wonders of Chinese food!! Oh yeah, like others have said - dim sum is great!

First time visitor. The service was great and so was the food!!! We ordered the assorted dim sum appetizer, wonton soup, general tso chicken, and the fried rice. Although it was my first visit, i had a good experience.

I was really disappointed because I love Chinese food, and have been somewhat unsatisfied with Chinatown on Mills lately and someone recommended Chan's. I went with some safe options: Dim sum special, spring rolls, sesame chicken, and general tso's chicken. The dim sum appeared to be from a box, the texture of the noodles surrounding the shrimp and pork dumplings was leathery and slimy. The spring rolls had a foul odor and taste. The two main dishes were very unappetizing, both being made of leathery tough chicken with thick skin left on the pieces, accompanied by a sauce that was much too strong and a very bad flavor at that. I ate only a couple of bites of each dish. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, I couldn't have been more disappointed. The service, at least the host, was very pleasant and nice. I wish he ran the whole restaurant.

Chan's has always been my favorite Chinese restaurant ever since I live in Orlando between 2003-2004 until I moved to Atlanta. My wife and I just visited Chan's during our Christmas vacation last month and I still think it's the best Chinese in Orlando. Prices are very reasonable with excellent food. Waiting staff was tentative, kind and give good recommendations for us. Overall, we're very satisfied with everything at Chan's

I love this place. I think my family has been eating here since I was a child. My favorite dishes are the roast duck, the fu chow fried rice, and the crispy tofu. Little Mama as I have always called her teases me that my Dad and I always order at least one or two of those three when we come in on the weekends. I wish that this was open 24 hours a day but alas it is not meant to be. Sometimes I get middle of the night cravings for Chans. I love them that much.

This is probably one of the two restaurants in town serves decent selections of freshly made dim sums and dedicated entirely for lunch time on Saturdays and Sundays. I don't know if Ming Court on I Drive still offers them or not but they had even more selections when I was there last. All the typical dim sums are the right flavors I can remember from back in Taiwan and some of my favs are not offered such as roasted and sliced pig ears, drunken chickens and others. Still when I crave for dim sums this is the place to be. Go early or you will get a line going out the door and it gets pretty crazy inside. It can get pricey if you intent to get full like me. My brother and I can spend up to 70 bucks for two.

Twice disappointed. First time was carry-out. The food was mushy and tasteless. When we ordered and asked to be sure there was white rice, the waitress on the phone said: "You come to wrong place - no white rice". (Think : Seinfeld episode. Seriously) Understanding that carry-out is iffy anyway, we tried this place a second time by eating in. The service was some of the worst we've ever experienced in ANY restaurant, it took forever to get our food, and it was horrible tasting and barely warm, at best. We ordered the chicken in garlic sauce... it tasted like someone had dumped vinegar in it..... and we also ordered the combination fried rice. It was mushy, overcooked, and tasteless. The worst. Ever. I have been to China. I know Chinese food. This is not Chinese food. This is garbage.

Get there early, otherwise you'll get cold, leftover dim sum. They walk around with the same carts ha! (I went at 2pm on a Saturday.) Also, decor could be better on the inside & outside.

I eat here almost weekly. We have Dim Sum every few weeks and dinner in between. For Chinese food in Orlando this is at the top of the list. If your not Chinese and just going here eating "western chinese" like General's chicken you missing the point and are borderline insulting. The people here are helpful and will help you find something that is authentic. For dim sum try chickens feet, tripe and some bean curd. Get some sticky rice or Lo mi gui which is rice and meat wrapped in a leaf. Ohhhh so good. Bottom line don't short yourself this is good food.

Complete with the Hong Kong style of service they wheel the food around on steam carts), Chan's is the quintessential Dim Sum place in Orlando, FL. They serve it everyday from 11a-2p. If you go on the weekend, you might want to get there early because it's always packed! Sometimes it helps to come with a large group, you get seated faster. There is so many good things to try and it comes out so fast, you wonder how many cooks they have in the back. Dim Sum is like Chinese tapas so its communal style eating with appetizer sized portions. Don't be afraid to try things ...except for the chicken feet. The proverb says that "Variety is the spice of life," so make good and eat outside the box.

I am not expected to find such an authentic cantonese restaurant in Orlando. The outlook may not be much, but clean. The food is great and service is very friendly....

If you're from central or northern florida, this used to be THE best place to get dim sum. quality of the food has declined a bit over the years. Compare it to a larger city - they lose hands down.

my family in orlando love going to chan's for dim sum... they would probably give them a 5 star rating, but not me... again in florida (doesn't matter if you're in orlando, tampa, ft lauderdale, or miami), it's pretty difficult finding a decent dim sum restaurant... the quality of the food is mediocre at best... there are plenty of dim sum take out places (without the gimmick carts) here in SF chintatown that serve way better dim sum then what chan's serves... h-100...

Mixed bag. I didn't like the house fried rice at all as it had just a hint of an unpleasant odor to it. The Chinese broccoli and the pork cutlet in sweet/sour sauce were good. The staff was friendly - tho I got take-out.

For budget Chinese cuisine there is always Tasty Wok. For a more skillfully prepared Chinese cuisine in a relatively nice setting there is Lam's Garden. For a fresher, more flavorful excuse for dim sum, there is Ming Bistro. So why go to Chan's? I guess I've read the owner is a nice person.

Hmm... most of my Asian friends don't really care for this place but I've been coming here for years and I kinda like it. I love their dimsum: the siu mai, chicken feet, dumplings, beef chow fun, spare ribs.... et. It gets awfully busy on weekends and the service is a bit spotty but I've never been truly disappointed with Chan's.

(5)Joy J.

(1)Ivy J.
Very authentic Chinese food, the dim sum is the best in Orlando. We love the fried tofu, bean curd roll, shrimp dumplings, baked bbq pork puff......It could be crowded and noisy during weekend or holidays, but it's worthy to try. Love this placeï¼

Horrible Horrible service!!! I wish I could give it less than one star.

(2)Mateo B.
Went with friends who recommended the dim sum. Very good! Lots of choices, and the price was very reasonable. People walk around with carts and you select which items you want. It was getting very crowded at lunch so get there early!
(4)Linda N.
(2)Kristie O.
(1)Allie S.

(4)Christina H.

Best Dim Sum in town.Tip only come here for Dim Sum
(4)Kalvin K.
(5)Adora B.
(2)John P.
(3)Beth C.

(5)Angelique V.
Get the fried chicken! It never disappoints. We usually order a half order and it is enough for two. It comes with colorful crispy shrimp chips and a special side of pepper seasoning that gives it extra flavor. My fiancé and I fight over who gets the last chip every time. (I always win.) Also, when water spinach is out of season in the spring months, we order the snow pea tips in garlic. It is super tasty and it's good for you.
(4)Lucy C.
(4)Leigh F.

Came here for dinner with my family while on vacation in Orlando. Great service, delicious authentic Chinese food, plenty of parking. Diamond in the rough! It's a must when in Orlando.

(4)Lauren P.

I love dim sum and have been to many places including Hong Kong, San Fran, Vancouver, this place ranks very low. Quality was poor and did not taste fresh, surprised on some of the reviews I read earlier
(2)Kirsten L.
(3)Mia P.
Excellent dim sum for lunch. Fast service and hot dumplings, what's not to love. The décor is a bit austere, but the food is great! I would suggest the green onion/scallion shrimp dumplings, and the pork and shrimp dumplings.
(4)Elizabeth M.

Everything is not fresh cooked!

(5)Christine W.

(3)Wai L.

(3)Shiyana V.

(4)Jessica V.
(1)Ashley H.

(4)Carlos D.

The BEST place to get dim sum in orlando!
(5)Paul L.
(3)Jen N.
(4)Wing L.
(3)Richard W.

(5)Justin D.
Not too many places you can get authentic dim sum :)
(4)Becky H.
Love going for sunday brunch. They open at 10-10:30ish. Get there early because morning service lets out and it gets crowded. Some of the servers aren't very nice but the food is good.
(3)Huyen T.
(4)Ricky L.
i've given this place at least three chances but each time, it always ended up as a fail.
(3)Wilbert O.
(4)Thuy H.
The best dim sum in Orlando. My Chinese friend told me that this is the place... that was back in 1995 and her family still comes here once a week from all over Florida for a family meal. The dim sum is fresh and good. I haven't tried the menu items though.
(3)Robert S.
Never eat seafood rolls! Cold in middle, inside looked like a baby's diaper. I feel nauseated by the food..service was hortible...will not be returning
(1)Dan B.
(3)Jellifier J.
We had dinner here when we are in Orlando for the second day in December 2011. The decoration of this restaurant is not good, and it is a little cold in that restaurant. I prefer food in Lam's Garden.
(3)Albert O.
(5)Kenny T.
(3)Kit C.
Very bad dim sum place, will NEVER come back. Trash food. I'm authentic Cantonese, food on this restaurant is definetly TRASH.........
(1)Tommy N.
(5)daphne m.
(1)David T.
My recent visit was for dim sum and it was just kinda off. Service wasnt that great and the sweet soy tasted fishy. Not appetizing at all. I'm not sure if theres any other cart service dim sum around here thats any good though. :(
(2)Royd K.
I will say, to my surprise dim sum was actually really good. However... Expect authentic Chinese service at the same time. Not really the friendliest for customer service.
(4)Lori F.
(5)Chung T.
(4)Kristina J.
First time visitor. The service was great and so was the food!!! We ordered the assorted dim sum appetizer, wonton soup, general tso chicken, and the fried rice. Although it was my first visit, i had a good experience.
(4)Drew S.
(1)Thomas L.
Good food! Good price! Ask for a menu if you are not offered one on Sunday

So good. I eat dim sum here every time I visit friends in the area. Staff is friendly and the food is consistently yummy.
