A friend of mine and I went to Terry's Place because we wanted to eat some place local that serves really great food, and after reading the Yelp reviews, I thought that this was really the place... I was sadly disappointed. We both ordered sweet tea, and the words that my friend used to describe it, "Swamp Water," could not have been more appropriate. So, we got some cokes instead... The food was also really bad... I ordered the philly cheesesteak and it came out covered in Yellow American cheese, and the meat was some kind of cross between a rabbit and a squirrel. I flagged down the waitress and told her that I wasn't really happy with it, but that I would still pay for it since I had taken a really big bite out of it. She was really nice and took it off for me and I ordered a Turkey sub as a replacement. Everything that is said about the portions are Terry's Place is true... If the food weren't crap, the portion sizes would be awesome. When my Turkey sub came out, it was way too big to even eat, but I managed to get half a bite off of it and it tasted like the cook had dumped the sub in a bucket of salt before sending it out to me. Suffice it to say, it was disgusting. When the waitress came over to check why I wasn't eating, I explained that it tasted like it was covered in salt, and she said that other people had told her that too, but she's never eaten anything there that isn't fried, so... (This should speak for itself). We asked for the check and left... I won't be going back there. Oh, and one of the other really appealing things about this place was that they home cook their bread, and usually home cooked bread is really tasty and fresh and excellent... It sucks at Terry's Place. I wish that I could give 1.5 stars for this place, because I think that the atmosphere of the place is really down-home (which is nice), and the service was worth the other .5 stars. All-in-all, don't waste your time at this place.

My friends took me here to grab a bite to eat. I was excited since I had pulled out my iphone yelp app to see that it hadn't been yelped yet. It was a sports bar kind of place that had booth seating in addition to the bar stool seating and a bunch of TVs. I was told there was a back patio also, but I didn't get a chance to check that out. The place was full of locals that started filling the place up at around 7. We had sat down right before 7 and wanted to get a few drinks since happy hour ended at 7. The waitresses were slow, and when one finally showed up, she said happy hour had ended, and I looked at my clock and it said 6:53! She said "we have to go by the bar clock" what the heck. wuteva. I ordered the cheeseburger, which was 1/2 lb of meat for $5.25! It was good but too much to finish since I was also throwing tons of fries down my throat. This place would be a cool place to hang out, they had all you can drink beer for $6 on Monday Night Football game days, Live music on Wednesdays. Overall i'd give it a 3 for my one time experience. A 3.8 if I was a local.

Terry's is a great place to go, just don't go thinking you are going to get a window seat. Terry's is dark and a hole in the wall, but it has some of the best food you will ever eat in Ocala. Their chicken fingers are amazing! They aren't skimpy slivers of meat, but huge pieces. Their burgers are about 4 inches tall and oh so delicious! Their hot subs are more than a foot long and more than enough for two meals. I cannot have a meal there without their amazing sweet tea and curly fries. They also have great onion rings. Trivia night there is a blast!! And they have tons of pool tables and TVs to catch the game on. I would give them a 4.5, not a 5, because you have to seat yourself and sometimes the waitstaff is not that attentive.

We are here for a baseball tournament. We took our baseball team there on a recommendation from a local parent. When we pulled into the parking lot we weren't real sure we were in the right place. It's not very impressive on the inside either and we almost left but decided to give it a try. When we got our food, the portions were huge and the food was AMAZING! From the fish sandwich, the sirloin tip sandwich, the hamburger, and even the kids hot dog. The French fries were out of this world! I am so glad we didn't judge THIS book by its cover! Definitely glad we stayed!

Terry's caters to locals and is not part of a chain. As such, it is my favorite restaurant if going somewhere with a bunch of guys. The food is lethal and honest and the portions are generous. If you're counting fat grams, don't go to Terry's. Thirty grams will infuse your body involuntarily upon entry. Go when you're taking a fat gram day off - or maybe a week. Did I mention you can play pool at Terry's? Awesome companion to the food, crowd and multiple sports screens playing all the time. Strangely, there are no such screens in the side room where the older, coin-op tables are found. This gives one the impression pool is taken very seriously at Terry's but the cramped floor space and general condition of the tables, cues and fixtures belie that idea. Isn't that the point of the whole place? It's not a cookie-cutter, franchised pool hall, sports bar or restaurant. Ok, it's a mess. That's what I love about it. For a real treat, sit at the bar near the servers station and eavesdrop on any conversation nearby. Absolute comedy at it's best. I say that fondly and must stop here. I need a fat gram infusion, a game of pool and some hilarious conversation; and hold the sports screen on that.

I can't believe there aren't enough reviews about this place. Great place to hang out, I have only had lunch here. Their veg sub is excellent. It has a separate bar area, tons of TV, has a sports-bar feel to eat. My co-workers always seemed love their food too. It will make a good happy-hour place. Highly recommend.

I have to say this about Terry's...you get every penny of your money out of the food. This place is small on price and big on value. We enjoy going when they do kids eat free because in these tight times you have to be smart about saving money, and Terry's is the place to do it. My husband and I usually go for a sub or the dinner plates because we can have lunch for the next day or TWO. I have never had a mediocre meal from them or mediocre service. Terry's is on it!

Took a date out to here, have never been before even though I've lived in Ocala for a quite awhile. So anyone that have not gone here yet are missing out. I was very impressed, the steak was juicy and cooked to perfection. The order came out quickly and well prepared. The staff was very polite and they always checked up on us it couldn't have gotten much better on the date as well. I have to say I will definitely be back to the fine establishment very shortly.

As an 'update'...I don't like Terry's Place QUITE as much...! All prices have been raised...not a little, but a LOT.....in many cases, more than at least WE will pay, considering that this IS Ocala after all...! The 'daily special' lunch is up $1.00...the fish dinner for 2 up $3.00....on and on across the whold menu! We STILL like Terry's for all the OTHER reasons....beer specials for instance are still affordable....and you DO still get good sized portions & don't go away hungry......but the new higher prices, well, we won't be going there as often as we did. You do still 'get a lot of food' but the actual value is greatly reduced by the much higher prices. The usual surley 'service' still applies, but considering the higher prices, it's harder to ignore & enjoy anyway....!

I have went here twice in the last month. Pros- they have recovered their tables. The servers were both very sweet. The buffalo chicken and Philly cheesesteak sandwich were great. The French fries were very good. One basket is enough for 3-4 people. The portions were huge, doggie bag = lunch for work tomorrow! I didn't like the meatball sub, my family tried it said it tasted good so it was my taste buds apparently. The waitress noticed that I didn't eat it and refused to let me pay for it. She was tipped well for going above and beyond. The shrimp PO-boy was outstanding. The prices are very good. Cons- too dark for me, had to use flashlight app to read the menu. The homemade bread tastes good but I threw a lot of it away... Wasteful (I know) This will be a regular dining location for me.

Huge portions of decent food at a fair price. You won't leave hungry. Mediocre service that you usually wait and wait for. Good service is hard to come by here. Pub atmosphere, pretty dated with worn out finishes. Full liquor bar, a few taps of mostly standard domestic beers. There is an outdoor patio in back with a separate bar but its usually closed. They have some kind of trivia one night of the week with regulars that come play on teams. Its probably ok if thats what you came for but for everyone else it is obnoxious and loud. There are also pool tables, several large tv's, and a jukebox, if you're into that sort of thing. All that said i still come a few times a year. It isn't bad.

My husband and I decided to go to Terry's for dinner and drinks , bad move the service was horrible we sat for 15 minutes before I had to finally get up and get a waitress to send someone to our table , and mind you 3or4 waitresses just looked at us and didn't even acknowledge that we were there and then she was rude about sending someone to our table , the place was dirty the food so-so and I ,We will never go back they are all rude and nothing but a bunch of hillbillies who are trying to run a nasty dirty and unorganized bar/ restaurant !!! Call Jon Taffner Or do you not know who he is !!! O and fire your cleaning crew if you have one !

We went there today 2/14 around 1:00. Place was pretty busy. Tables full and what tables weren't full ,we all dirty. We finally decided to just sit at a dirty table. While waiting for a while to be reognized and have the table cleaned, I observed that the waitresses had no direct supervision. They were waiting tables, busing and taking payments. There was plenty of arguing going on between the waitresses about tables and taking orders ,where the customers could hear. I observed every bar top with dirty dishes on them, dirty dishes being stacked on 2 tables, so they couldn't be used for customers to eat at. Dirty dishes piled up in the pass window between the front bar and the dining area to the left. One part left after waiting 20 minutes for a clean table. I saw 2 couples seated but no one even acknowledge them for over 20 minutes. When they tried to ask a waitress for aqssistance, She said, I'm not your waitress. Couldn't she have at least gotten them a drink and given them some menus. I could see without management supervision, that it would be very easy for customers to walk out without paying. The waitresses can't be everywhere and do everything and make sure everyone pays. We have been here plenty of times. I've seen several reiews just like mine . We asked for a manager and were told they don't have one. The waitresses need training to be more polite and attentive but there needs to be a manager presence too. A good manager will assign workable stations and maybe clean a table or two or take cash. If the food wasn't so good, I doubt we would be back.

Great wings (sampler 5 breaded, 5 naked, 5 tenders). Great burgers.

Current health inspection report: 17 violations. Where to start. Hmmm....it's dark...very dark. I can understand that for the bar portion but not for the restaurant side. It was difficult to read the menu. Being dark didn't deter my sight for a cleanliness problem though. Walking in, I see rips and holes they have in the vinyl that has covered up the old table tops. The food from many patrons ago line the cracks in the booths. And some kind of smudge on the walls next to the booths, are of different sizes and colors. Ick! Service was fair to poor. I didn't appreciate it that my server was also cleaning tables and cashiering in between delivering my food. Did she wash her hands in between handling money, dirty rags and handling my food? I was disturbed when I observed another server pouring the end of one tea holding canister into the other tea holding canister. But the worse part had to be the food. Yes, the shrimp was hot on the outside, but it was under cooked on the inside. All of this...especially the quality of the food, barely rates 1 star. Did I mention that food and bacteria gets built up in those holes & rips in the vinyl as the servers are wiping it down? Oh noooo!

Good bar food overall. Except for the giant salads, you will not find many vegetables at Terry's that are not fried. Big burgers with homemade bus, steaks, chicken, and fried fish. 4 out of 5 times I have had good food. Last visit, I had a tasteless burger, soggy fries, and a flat beer. It must not have been in the cards that day...LOL....will give it a bit before we try again. Would be nice to see a makeover one day and give the ole girl some knew life. Still can't beat the big ass salads.

Terrys is kind of dive bar that has good food. The portions are huge and tastee, we would always split our order and was still enough to fill you up. Probably not the cleanest place since its an older bar and restraunt. We ate here several times winter 2009

The Philly beefsteak is to die for! One order will feed two or you can buy one and save it for the next day. This is a must have when in the area. The service varies depending on the day but the food is a sure thing every time.
