Enjoyed an evening out with family, and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I went with one of their combos (enchilada, taco, rice and beans). The food is definitely of a high quality, for the style of cuisine. Fills you up, without taking you beyond capacity. Would definitely recommend to others, as a reasonably priced alternative for your Latin fix.

I liked their salsa. It was simple and fresh, with a little heat. The rest of the meal was downhill. It took at least 10 minutes just to get a waitress and some water/drinks ordered. The beef in our appetizer (Nachos Supremos) tasted like Taco Bell meat, and the nachos were poorly constructed and covered in iceberg lettuce. My enchiladas verde were stuffed with tough, old chicken in red sauce. The shells were stale. Pretty gross overall.

Our plates were too hot to touch, food was only warm. Three different items in the combo and they all tasted identical. Skip it and microwave your own meal.

This place is pretty solid overall...I was tempted to leave a 3* review but chose to do a 4* because the Mariachi Band was a unique touch! Apparently they play nightly! The Fajitas were off the charts good and a healthy portion for the price. I have never seen a 60oz margarita in my life but believe me it exists here! WOW

On both work and pleasure road trips up and down on I-75, I always seem to be in this area when I get hungry. They put out some fairly decent Tex-Mex fare. While nothing really stands out as exceptional to me here, you do get a decent portion of tasty food for your money. I've been here both when they were very busy and practically empty, and have always found the service here to be attentive. A big plus is that it's right next to an exit, so it's easy to come and go here (besides rush hour, of course). Also, for the both hungry and tired traveler, there are plenty of lodgings just a short walk away. So perhaps not like your favorite joint in your hometown, I am always thankful to stop and stretch my legs at El Toreo and enjoy some decent Tex-Mex...

We were looking for someplace Mexican for dinner so, even after all the reviews, we decided to try this place. We ordered the queso fundido which was really very greasy and instead of chorizo, it tasted like it was ground beef. It was supposed to be our appetizer but our meal came out practically before we had a chance to taste it. The rest of the meal was only ok. Typical chain food tex-mex fare. Service was a little ditzy but she was young. We might go to El Toreo again but I'm sure we can find someplace better.

Fresh house made chips and salsa and very large and very good margaritas. Highly recommend the frozen strawberry margarita with sugar laced around the glass. Good place to stop in and get your fill of Mexican food. Did I mention that when you order the fajitas you get twice the quantity compared to Chilis?

Two stars may be generous. Chips were fine. Salsa ok though more like tomato sauce. Queso dip enjoyable. 99 cent margaritas on Wednesdays probably the only real draw. Two combination dinners were horrid. And, they are very vegetarian un-friendly. Rarely have I ever been to a "bad" Mexican restaurant but there's always a first and that happened here. Diners consisted of older white locals who apparently don't mind the slop being served them. Absolutely do not recommend.

My coworkers and I were directed here by some locals who swore it was the best Mexican food in town. There were 3 of us and nobody thought it was very stellar. My dinner (#23) tasted very Taco Bell-ish. Our server was friendly and efficient. I had a good mojito while my coworkers had 99 cent margaritas that reportedly did not have much tequila in them. I have not ever been overly impressed with Mexican food. Chips and Guac are about my favorite thing in any Mexican restaurant. This one was good enough but nothing to write home about.

Processed cheese! Need I say more? It was an oily melted pile on my plate. And, what seemed like an inexpensive menu was just the starting point for an over the top up sell pricing system. Unless you wanted a chile relleno that was actually a stuffed bell pepper you needed to pay extra for a poblano pepper (which is what the dish really should be.) There were three up sells to my Margarita alone. I will give a thumbs up to our server, William, who did a good job overall, despite the obnoxious up sells and terrible food.

Being half Mexican, this is my favorite place to stop on my frequent out of town drives from Orlando to Gainesville. It's in Ocala, so it is what it is. This salsa is what I miss from California. It's the right seasoning and it's just hot enough. The chicken fajitas are always a favorite and while I don't always agree with the types of cheese they use from traditional dishes, I'll blame that on them trying to accommodate tourists. It's not like what I remember eating in Acapulco, and it's definitely not California but the meat is always tender and flavorful, the salsa is authentic and they remember me here. I definitely stick with the chicken here, it's always juicy and full of flavor, it's a sure thing (insert chicken wing joke here). Enjoy the service and the atmosphere and a flavorful meal and get back on the road...cause let's face it your final destination is not Ocala and if it is, well my condolences.

The margaritas here are very large. They will make you a top shelf or wells margarita in the huge glasses, and the top shelf is only a a few dollars extra. The guacamole is ok. The food soso. The prices are very affordable and they have 2 4 1 lunch specials.

This is my "go to" for Mexican food. Only three stars, but don't let that fool you. Mexican isn't exactly haute cuisine. It's basically hot junk food. It's good, it's cheap and the beer is ice freakin cold. They're two things that bring me back again and again, that beer (Modelo draft), I mentioned and the excellent customer service I "always" get from Arturo at the bar. He's the absolute best! I really appreciate him. If you go, ask for him and tip double, don't be cheap, lol...

This place (at least the Silver Springs Blvd location) is the 2nd worst mexican food I have ever had. the worst was in Batesville Arkansas so you can get the picture! The food is so obviously right off the Mexican version of the sysco truck...plainly frozen and poorly handled at that! The red sauces actually tasted like tomato soup...a first for that. The food is just plain bad bordering on nasty. The decor is ratty, the carpet ripped and actually smelly. The only real reason to EVER come here would be for the drink specials...is you could actually trust them to put actual liquor in the drinks! El Azteca right across the Blvd claims to make everything themselves (which I think is a bending of the truth) but it is actually much better.

On our way home from Orlando, we stopped at El Toreo for dinner. It's right off the interstate. When we pulled into the parking lot, their advertisement (under their main sign) was Kids Meal .99! This was a great sign for us, since we had 3 children in tow. Inside the ambiance is nice. Dim lights, music playing in the background. They have a bar seating area as well as regular seating. There are a couple of arcade games set up near the front. This caused us problems since two out of the three children are 2 years old and can't see/reach the games. Crying quickly ensued. We pulled up a chair for them to stand in, but, of course, that wasn't safe so the staff put a stop to it. More crying ensued. I guess they don't have activities for the kids because they never brought coloring books/pages or anything, even with all the crying. They did bring chips and salsa to the table very quickly. Their chips weren't anything special... but their salsa was rather good and quite spicy. Yum. I ordered the Carnitas, which was a little over $10. It was blah to okay... It lacked something. I just couldn't pinpoint what it was missing though. The entree consisted of pork pieces, rice, refried beans, lettuce and tomatoes, and tortillas. I ordered a taco for my oldest son, but for some reason the server put it down as an "al a carte" taco instead of a kid's taco, even though I was pointing to the taco on the kids' menu. When it arrived at the table, I asked where the rice and beans were that were supposed to come with the kids' taco. She said, "Oh, you wanted a kid's taco? I thought you just wanted a taco for him..." Why in the world would I do that when the kids' taco is only .99?! She corrected it and brought him some rice and beans. My brother-in-law got the seafood chimichanga. It was really tasty, though I don't think that it was made with real crab. My husband got a steak burrito, which I can only assume was good since he ate it all without offering me a single bite. All in all, this place was okay, the server was nice, and the food came out quickly. If we're in the mood for Mexican next time we're in Ocala, though, we'll probably try another place.

Never again! I'm sorry, but everything was garbage from the customer service, to the food, to the check. The waitress was very rude and unprofessional. The "manager" was no better. The atmosphere was okay but didn't make up for everything else. The "Mexican food" was not even on Taco Bell's level. The "beef" was ground beef that tasted like it was out of a can, the taco shells were those you buy boxed from a grocery store, the tortillas were under cooked, the beer was expensive and the salsa was way too watery. I'll never go here again nor recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely unrecognizable as Mexican food. Bland tomato sauce for salsa, beans are tasteless and probably out of a can. They use preformed shells for tacos, the house margaritas were cheap but weak and the ice water was cold. Also the server was a pleasant young man. The search for Mexican food in Ocala continues.

The key to this place is to know what to order; avoid the gooey combos where all the flavours mush into one. Order fajitas, or flautas, or the chimichanga etc. and you'll be pleased with what you get. Service is fast and friendly; atmosphere is cookie cutter faux Mexican/American grill. It's Ocala, what do you expect?

  • FS U.

We went in for lunch. I ordered the taco and enchilada lunch combo. The food was delicious. You can only choose refried beans or spanish rice, unless you want to pay the 2.45 for the extra side dish. Sour cream was also a surcharge. First time I have been to a mexican joint and been charged for either rice, beans, or sour cream.

Disgusting. Had carne con queso appetizer that I ate around the meat because it wasnt appetizing at all. The chimichangas werent the best, but I was able to eat the chicken out if it which was good, but the rest wasn't. Maybe it is a good place for drinks, but I dont drink.

Very good Mexican food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. We ordered a Burrito Supreme and a Chicken Quesadilla ... the Quesadilla was especially delicious IMHO. Service was quick; however, our waiter was hard to understand, pleasant but by no means friendly, and obviously did not seem the least bit interested in waiting on his customers except to get them fed and out the door. Otherwise, this would be a 5-star review as the food was very good. Restrooms were clean, which was a plus.

I came here for a drink and food after work one day and it was exactly what I was looking for. Nothing unexpected here, a casual and run of the mill Mexican restaurant with decent food, fair prices and great happy hour. The staff were very... engaging, they made me feel like I was back home instead of thousands of miles away.

Absolutely horrible if you truly know good Mexican. Salsa is weak and taste like ketchup, cheese taste like sandwich cheese... Would never eat there or recommend it. If your in the area go to Chilis next door. After reading other reviews seems to be a decent place for booze rather than food.

Whenever I'm tooling south down I-75 towards Orlando, one of my favorite stops is El Toreo. Situated in front of a La Quinta and a Hilton, it makes a great dinner place for the weary traveler. High ceilings and wood paneling grace the interior, though I usually choose to sit outside. The menu is bright, festive and fun, with five different kinds of margaritas listed along with frozen drinks, beer, mixed drinks, Mexican sodas and other beverages. 23 combination platters are the centerpiece with an array of sides ranging from cheese and sour cream to chalupas and chile relleno. If you're in between 12 and 55, you don't qualify for the kids and seniors menu, which includes such fare as burritos, enchiladas, tacos and (natch) chicken fingers. Standout offerings include: Parilla Mexicana - beef and chicken Dakotas, shrimp shishkebob, served with bell peppers and onions, flour tortillas, beans, rice, pico de gallo and guacamole salad; Seafood enchilada stuffed with seafood mix; Fish Ceviche - raw catfish marinated in lime juice mixed with chopped cilantro, tomatoes, onions, avocado and jalapeño and Bistec a la Tampiquena - grilled, sliced flank steak served with one cheese enchilada, refried beans and guacamole salad. Always on the quest for the "ultimate" rendition of this dish, I ordered the ever-popular Camarones a la Diabla (Satanic shrimp, just kidding, a little) which is jumbo shrimp stuffed with a fiery "Chile de Arbol" sauce and served with freshly simmered rice and vegetables. The warning on spices, complete with gratuitous exclamation points, warranted a good ride for a heat-head. As promised, they didn't skimp on the Hades and delivered a sassy sauce along with fresh green beans and squash. The tongue was a little wilted after this one: win! The place is a little noisy, which is one of the reasons why I choose to sit outside. Situated, as it is, in a part of old Florida, it's nice to savor that atmosphere and escape some of the din inside as well.

Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
