This is AUTHENTIC Puerto Rican food and very delicious. TRUST my opinion. I am a 100% Puerto Rican born and raised and also a very good cook. When I say very good it means very good. All the dishes we tried while we were in Ocala for business were delicious from the traditional mofongo,( my very favorite dish) to the biftec encebollado, the yuca,the rice :manposteao" another favorite ALL truly delicious and with that native flavor. So hard to find unless I cook it MYSELF which I do. But mofongo is a LOT of work. ONLY COMPLAIN: Why don't you have another Chayote in Gainesville, Florida ??? PLEASE we need one truly authentic and specifically Puerto Rican. There is NONE. I mean I enjoy all Caribbean flare but when I want Puerto Rican food, I don't want Cuban, Dominican, Jamaican nor NOVO latino, fusion latino etc...just give me the REAL stuff we Puerto Rican grew up eating every day..THE BEST .I w\ould not give this restaurant a high rating UNLESS it was truly the best I have tasted in a LONG time. And I am VERY picky regarding my culinary preferences.

First trip to Chayote's for lunch. Certainly no complaints. The dining room was mostly empty but I arrived late in the lunch service. I asked for something 'light' for lunch. My light lunch ended up being a very large 'Tripleta' sandwich. Three meats (chicken, ham, and bbq pork) with plantain chips. Had I only eaten a third of it it may have qualified for a light lunch, but self control has never been my forte around good food. I had a Medalla Puerto Rican beer to wash it al down. Really tasty lunch. The location sucks. There is literally no parking and the lack of signage makes the place hard to find. If you are searching for it look between Zaxby and Verizon on Silver Springs Blvd., in the same tiny plaza as the little donut shop and a dry cleaner. Starting a restaurant is expensive, though, so I hope they survive in spite of the location. I will be back!

Second time here and once again very happy! My 18 years old picky daughter nominated this her favorite restaurant! Big portions, flavorful and fabulous presentation!

My husband and I love visiting new restaurants. We have found gems and we have found ones that will not make it for long. We went to this restaurant with high expectations because we had seen many good reviews on Ocala Restaurant Word of Mouth. I ordered the Penil sandwich and my husband ordered Mofongo with chicken. My sandwich came with very dry pork on a sandwich bun, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise, on the side were plaintain chips (the only great thing on my plate!) I could have had ketchup if I had wanted that, but I really don't think ketchup goes with pork. My husbands two sides were dirty rice (bland) and yucca (delicious). The server was very attentive but I don't think there is anything she could have done to make my pork moister and his food less bland. I am not sorry we gave this place a chance. Life is full of adventures!

Dissapointed? Yes!! Limited menu, out of some items and the kicker - food was pretty bland. Restaurant seats about 40. The best part of the night was the guitarist, who sang mostly classic Spanish songs and sang them well. Oh yes, the Sangria was pretty good!!

Best yucca I have ever had!!!! Give it a try, my first experience with authentic Puerto Rican, and I thought it was very good.
