The food was good - the seafood was fresh and well prepared. The seafood chowder was some of the best we have tasted. Three of our party had the grouper sandwich prepared three different ways - blackened, broiled, and deep fried. All three preparations were tasty. I had the fried platter - you could tell that the items were breaded when ordered and not "pre-made". The prices were pretty typical of the area - $12 for a grouper sandwich. The food was good; the wait staff attentive; I would go back. My only complaint would be that the outdoor seating area is EXTREMELY small and VERY close to the bridge. BUT - you are still outside and on the water.

This where the party got started!!! But we sat in outdoor seating for 10 mins waiting to be noticed before i finally walked over and stopped a waitress to ask her to light our candle in our very dark corner. After that we waited another 10 and still no one came so we moved indoors. After that everything improved but couldn't hear the live band. The food was good but could have been better. Selection was better than its competition (we were told by another customer). Service-goodish. (My daughters enjoyed walking outside onto the pier to watch people fishing and at night the lights were shining so that you can see fish in the water.)

Hard to miss with a boat dock five feet from your tables. We go here by boat and have a delicious lunch. Try the seafood casserole, it's great. Lots of history can be viewed on the walls from the past.

The bar has a good pour and prices aren't too bad. The salads suck and so does the rolls. The best thing they have is only on their lunch menu and it is their grouper finger sandwich. It's truly awesome. Their chowder is pretty good also. On the days that they have their prime rib on special, believe it or not, the prime rib is excellent. Get rice pilaf instead of their baked potatoes which aren't that good, Employees are very friendly, but the tourists can be irritating, especially during season. Edit, they changed their lunch grouper finger sandwich to use marble rye instead of regular French. It sucks. However, they have improved on their rolls, which Sweetbay has the same rolls in their bakery/

Great spot to hang out and drink but I gotta say that the food and service was a bit disappointing. Our waitress was nice but clearly had too much responsibility put on her shoulders. I feel the place is a little outdated and could use a minor face lift. I would come back here again to party out but wouldn't go again for a meal.

We came here to eat while we were on our honeymoon. Nice restaurant on a waterway near the beach. You can eat outdoors and the servers were nice. The seafood was fresh, and we had a delicious meal.

Sometimes it's hard to rate a place because in one way this place would be considered a dive in another would be considered quaint...my husband and I took our 2 boys for a quick bite. We ate outside, the view was amazing...draw bridge, birds, boats etc. The furniture was old and seen better days. Service excellent! Food excellent! My mojito so so...the mint was brown and the drink a bit watered down. We ordered 3 apps and loved them all! The stuffed scallops soprano was amazing. So not fancy at all but great food we will be back!

Stopped here after listening to the drum circles on the beach. Take 2 which is the owners' band that plays was playing that night. Best to get a seat outside for that. Cover songs and they are great entertainers! Tambourines, drum sticks and cow bells on the tables to get the crowd involved. Lots of fun! They want you involved and to get up and dance!!! We did! Food was decent. I had a grouper sandwich with fries. Grouper was good with decent portion. Fries...eh. I wish they were fresh cut. Seafood nachos were pretty good and ample seafood for price. Tops and Bottoms is a staple for my friend. She was slightly disappointed as they used fake crab this time. This is new and gave her a sad face. Beer prices were fair as well. Service was excellent!!! I would definitely go back for Take 2!!

Perfect bay setting at Pelican Alley tonight. Beautiful view, relaxed beach setting, tasty food, and ends with dancing and live music. What more can I ask for. We enjoyed the best chowder, a tasty broiled grouper sandwich, fried scallops, and a shrimp cocktail. We were hungry! Everything was good and Jordan, our bartender was great. We want to come back in our shorts with a group of friends. What fun! Lots of tables outside to sit and enjoy the music on a Friday night in Nokomis.

Very nice waiter with a great sense of humor. I had a great drink and my O-Loops were freaking awesome! They were sweet inside and perfect light and crispy outside, just like I love them! My Chef Special Chicken Pasta Alfredo was super tasty! The restaurant is located right on the Intracoastal with lots of things to check out decor-wise...kind of fun. My companions loved their meals as well. I think one had the calamari and another had the seafood type pasta.

Delicious and great prices!! The drinks are strong but very fruity. I had the Hurricane Katrina. For dinner I had a cup of their seafood chowder and some coconut shrimp. The chowder was thick and creamy and had large chucks of assorted seafood in it. The coconut shrimp were crispy and not greasy at all. My friends enjoyed the stuffed shrimp which I took a bite of and thought was impeccable however my friend noted it was a tad salty. We also ate on the calamari and the seafood nachos. Everything was amazing and I will come back every time I'm here. I love the location although it can be easy to miss. The ghost story is a trip too. I recommend watching the YouTube video for a scare!

We love Pelican Alley! Their seafood gumbo and seafood nachos are outstanding. Their specials are always fresh. Love the view! Have come here many times and never have been disappointed. Don't order the Casey Key Rum Punch if you are driving...

Good and simple seafood, decent live music, expected old facilities for this kind of restaurant

Ordered scallops over pasta ... it was disgusting (scallops were grey & so over cooked that they were soggy. .. the chef never heard of salt & pepper ... and the pasta was uncooked and hard). I suspect the scallops & pasta were cooked earlier and then microwaved to reheat them (which certainly isn't "sauteed" like the menu states). My wife's salmon was tasteless and cold. We left and had dinner elsewhere!!!!!

Not good fresh seafood. Frozen and not very good at that. Garnishes on the seafood were average the only reason I gave them two stars is the service was good.

Stopped in to try their Crab Cakes and Ceviche. Ceviche was very good but the crabs cakes had fake crab in them, asked the waitress as we were leaving are they made with real crab meat and she said yes. Definitely not worth what we paid for them, very disappointed.

I wanna say that I was extremely unsatisfied with the food that I got from this place. I ordered the casino claims, which on the online menu says it cost 5.75, however, when I got their i got charged 9.75. When I opened the to-go container (since I orderd takeout) I only got 4 claims! and they look they have been sitting there for a while, not to mention they weren't even hot! Needless to say they were gross. A little upset about this, I decided to call the manager and I got hung up the first time. I then called back and began to describe my experience. She was very unapologetic and rude and said, "there was nothing I can do at this time." It looks like ill never be going there again.

This is a great local place, right on the Intracostal Waterway in Nokomis. It is in walking distance of Nokomis Beach. If you are out boating, you can also tie up your boat alongside their dock. The menu is made up almost exclusively of seafood. When I come here I usually end up ordering from their tapas menu, instead of having an entree, which of course I accompany with alcoholic beverages. I recommend the 'Tops and Bottoms' appetizer, which is mushroom caps and artichokes filled with crabmeat stuffing, topped with asiago cheese and then broiled. I am also a big fan of the seafood nachos (topped with crab, shrimp, scallops and a creamy jalapeño sauce, which kind of reminds me of a blossom onion sauce) and also the fried shrimp with Thai chili sauce, both on the tapas menu. The fish tacos are also really good. We usually get a cold pitcher of Stella to go with the tapas, but my friend recommends 'El Diablo', a top shelf margarita, off of the Drink Specialties menu, which he tells me has a sufficient kick to it. The staff is always very friendly and courteous. They are attentive, but not intrusive. I've only had good experiences here. Oh, by the way, Pelican Alley is supposedly haunted by the ghost of the former owner... I haven't noticed any paranormal activity while I was there, but I looked it up on the internet it seems like it's pretty well documented. Check this place place out when you're around if you want a casual, fun atmosphere and tasty, consistent food.

I went to Pelican Alley several months ago and the food was bad. Relatives wanted to give it another try. This time is was worse than bad. Not kidding, I had the worse crab cakes of my life there and the staff did not seem to care.

We just wanted a quick bite, a beer and and we got a whole lot more! Excellent mushroom tops and bottoms, delicious Cajun shrimp and tasty black beans and rice. We got great music from Vic from NJ! Stayed around much longer than expected in this relaxed patio atmosphere.

So much potential for the location but the food was very greesy and bland. We will not recommend this place to friends.

I have been going to Pelican Alley for a number of years and unfortunately it has declined dramatically over the last two years. The food at one time was exceptional and they had a terrific group of servers. The last two times we have gone the wait staff seemed completely out of their minds and were more concerned with each other than the tables. The alley has also developed a horrible stench(mold) and there is a karaoke act that plays, its all quite bizarre. Still though the location is wonderful but the staff and food quality have declined so drastically I don't think the sunset and snook will bring me back.

The Pelican is in a great location, has a very attentive staff, and the food is pretty good. We had a big party with 3 high chairs, and they had a table for us in no time. The waitress was quick to take our order but not pushy, and we never had an empty glass. All the seafood dishes we had were good, especially the house specials. The kids meals were average, but they are kids meals. If we are in the area again, we'll be back to the Pelican.

Not great, my husband and I ordered the seafood po boy and boy was it po......like 6 shrimp and 2 oysters. Mostly lettuce. I felt like I was eating a lettuce wrap. Lots of money for little food. View was best thing about it. Empty restaurant but they sat a couple and a very anxious child behind us. The dad signed onto their wifi and proceeded to watch a tv show on full blast. Weird. Won't go back.

Pleasant surprise and locals joint in Venice Beach. Great food, drinks, and service to match a great view. The chowder was excellent.

childhood favorite. most people overlook pelican alley because pops down the street has grown so popular. but if you're looking for friendly people, enthusiastic staff and good food with no waits then here's your place!

Best seafood on the Fl west coast! Grilled Red Snapper is fantastic when they have it in season. Atmosphere is great overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway where dolphins swim among the many boats traveling past. It's a great place to order a drink, move to the outdoor benches, & watch the fishing, pelicans landing on the piers, & many big boats especially on weekends. Toward evening, you can walk across the drawbridge to the Nokomis Beach to watch fantastic red sunsets most any day. A bit of FL paradise we've enjoyed for 30 some years!

Wow is all I can say. Mediocre food at high prices. The dishes do not warrant what they charge for the quality and portions. I was shocked by an $18 stuffed shrimp dish that was so sub par and so small the shrimp were and the stuffing hardly memorable. My dish came not hot, the shrimp was undercooked and the stuffing overcooked around the edges. The waitress offered to make me another same dish after she asked how my meal was and told her just that. The replacement dish was the same way as the first, ugh. so again I I ate mostly stuffing and resigned myself to a $21.00 check incl. tip. I work hard for my money and that hurts for mediocrity. From the looks of other dishes/people served, this place has got a captive audience that knows no better what good food actually tastes like. Also, I feel if you're going to charge top dollar for your menu items, you best serve up something tasteful and memorable. This place seems like amateur cooking and the positive reviews here are off base. Place is also more like a bar with a small dining area, nothing fancy, dirty, outdated. It is not for large parties, they had trouble seating a party of 6. Look at the negatives here, which all seem to be similar in nature. That should tell you something.

Everyone is happy and very friendly , great spot to view all the boats coming through under the bridge if seating outside. Great deals on drinks , food and yes its very tasty too. Will definitely return more often since living in Sarasota. Nice Gem.

Location is good, on the intercoastal waterway. If you have a boat you can tie up here. We came here because there was a two hr wait at our usual waterfront stop. We shared tapas at our table. The seafood nachos were very bland. We ended up ordering extra Thai sauce from the dynamite shrimp to add to the nachos and that helped a lot. The coconut shrimp was crispy and tasty. The seafood chowder was good, but not a stand out. The shrimp cocktail was OK at best. The dynamite shrimp was heavily breaded , but tasty. The server was friendly and helpful.

Had a first and last visit there. Service was poor and slow, order was prepared wrong and incomplete, fumes from boats and cigarettes was obnoxious.

We went there Friday night for their (postponed) New Years party. What a fun time with Take 2 performing in the courtyard!! They had a sparkling wine toast, $1 Jell-O shots, and even a drawing for prizes!! Of course, the music was fantastic! We had a combination of items for dinner, but I must say the Black Grouper special was excellent! I am thinking that their specials are the way to go, as they seem to be fresh and creative. We also had the tuna tapa, which was good, and the Calimari, which was a normal bar-food deep fry item. For drinks, we had ice cold Stella, unfortunately served in plastic cups instead of the Stella glasses that the indoor patrons received... Overall, a great night with good food, cold beer, live music, and good friends!! We will go back again, on a Friday night.

Great deals on beer (they have some 12 ounce drafts for $1.50). The food - well I felt like my fish tacos were pretty inedible. Fish was mushy & way too over-seasoned. The flour tortilla and salsa were pretty awful too. I ate less than half of the dish and left the rest. For the price though, perhaps that's what you get. Our server was polite, but she was pretty terrible. We had to order refills a few times from her and waited forever to get there. My brother ordered the chicken and shrimp combo, and it came out sans shrimp. The waitress didn't even bother to apologize. The plus-side: it is super cheap, and it is right on the water which is kind of nice. If I came back, I would stick to the $1.50 beers.

This is our favorite place for a light meal....either appetizers or Tapas. We have never had an issue with the wait staff, always friendly and attentive. Sometime you have to try the seafood casserole with the lobster sauce followed by Key Lime Pie.

We go here with my parents whenever we visit...it is one my dad's favorite spots as he is a huge seafood fan. We always get a booth by the water so we can spot the pelican's diving for fish. The seafood chowder is a tradition with us and we love it. Just a nice, simple place to hang out and relax with some good seafood.

We have been seeing the sign for Pelican Alley on our way to the beach or to Pop's, but last night was the first time we stopped in. As a previous poster noted the place certainly needs a facelift. It being a Friday night, there was music in the courtyard, quite pleasant and competent, but very loud. The deck is right next to the bridge to Casey Key, so that is not pleasant with the road noise and also with the setting sun it was like an oven. So we sat inside in a booth with seats that were probably salvaged from the Spanish Inquisition. I faced a painting of a mermaid showing off a generous pair of buttocks. The service was cheerful, efficient and friendly, so no complaints there. I had blackened grouper, which was excellent, and my lady was happy as a clam with what she had -- steamed clams of course. Sorry about that! In the end, the evening turned out to be quite expensive, but that was probably due to the fact that we had a bit more than usual to drink, possibly in an attempt to ease the discomfort of the seating arrangements. Pelican Alley has a dock, so you can arrive and depart by boat, which some people did. That is kind of cool.
