Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Three times I have tried the Niceville Pepitos. And every time the experience is more and more disappointing. Mr cool manager if you think strolling over and being all Mancho is any way to run a retail business you went to the wrong hospitality school. Drinks? Terrible... And to charge me to fix crazy, and to try and defend you action by being rude to your customers no way. Food? OK but when the portion is messed up why not fix it? Food was the best thing going and you just took it off the bill instead of offering to correct portion. Service? So sad, service industry, be friendly, polite and curious we tried so many times to to communicate with server and she just seemed like she wanted to disappoint. By far the worst part of the night was the arrogance of the manager, I didn't want any comps I just wanted something taken off my I didn't get and you acted like I was the worst customer ever. Guess what I am your worst customer the one that will never be back and will never recommend your establishment.

Disappointed! A couple of years ago this place was really good. The family loved to go here to have a family meal. As other Mexican restaurants began to close in the town, the quality here began to slide. The fajitas went from being tender and flavorful to the bland shoe leather consistency. As a result, we stopped going. After a year of avoiding the place, we decided to give the place another try. Seated quickly. The service was attentive. Drinks never went dry. A plus. However that is where the compliments end. The fajitas went from bland shoe leather to dry stringy overly lime soaked strips of meat. My youngest who used to devour the beef barrito barely ate half of it and did not want to take the rest for leftovers. That describes the food quality. However, that wasn't the most disconcerting thing. As we ate our meal, we were constantly swarmed by flies! How disgusting! Flies in a restaurant are normally the result of an unclean kitchen! Especially when the entrance has a double set of doors to help prevent the unwanted entry of the pests. Additionally our booth wasn't far from the kitchen entrance. Constantly having to swat these disgusting pests away from our food made the meal completely unenjoyable. After staying away for so long, we had hoped things had improved. However, much to our disappointment, they have not. This was Peppitos last chance for our family. We will not return again.

Tried this place out since on my visit back home to Niceville. The food was very good I had some beef Tacos. The Margaritas were ok, but have had better. We did visit on a Friday night and had a rather long wait, but the service was good.

Super impressed with the veggies included with my shrimp la diavlo (salad of cucumber, carrot, greens, squash). The sauce was a little spicy and very flavorful. I will definitely be back for another delicious, healthy, tasty meal.

There was a wait here but it was worth it. We ate at a few places in Destin and Niceville and this place takes the top prize. Everyone's food was really delicious and we all ate all our food, including the kids! I wish we would have eaten here everyday! It's a little pricey for mexcian food but it was good. (Side note, you can get more chips for free, but if you get more salsa there's a fee)

I recently had dinner here and I have to say that it's the best tasting Mexican restaurant around. There aren't very many Mexican restaurants to choose from in this area and now that they have a spot in Niceville I can enjoy good Mexican and not have to worry about crossing the toll bridge. You must try their Margaritas and pretty much anything on their menu will be satisfying.

One star for the salsa and one star for the cheese dip. Other than that, the rest of the experience was kind of a disappointment. Our server (Luis Nava - they gave us a card for a Yelp review) didn't smile nor did he really even look our way at any point during our dinner. The food did come out quickly, but we didn't get drink refills until the very end. I had a beef taco with rice and beans. The taco meat was greasy and had some flavor, but too much salt. My poor guy's burrito looked very sad. It was a grocery store flour tortilla (not heated up, maybe old) wrapped around a measly portion of meat and topped with a little bit of shredded cheese. The prices are about $2.50 per item, but I know I could make a better burrito at home. I'm a pretty happy camper when it come to Mexican food of any kind even chains. I just couldn't get on board with the food here. Maybe just a good place for cheese dip and margaritas.

The chorizo dip is a must have. Great service. Salsa and chips can't be any better. Had I plate that had a ribeye which was cooked perfectly and shrimp. I'm not from here but next time we visit Destin we will come back.

Going down-hill. I have eaten here no less than a dozen times this year (2015). I have previously been very satisfied with the food. Service in the restaurant has always been very inconsistent except at the bar, which has been consistently good. i have previously returned food that I was dissatisfied with, only to have a fresh serving returned to me that was outstanding. Tonight I ordered a rib-eye steak dish, that I have had before at their Miramar beach location. The first bite had an odd/ spoiled taste but the second bite from a different section of the steak did not. Long story shortened, some of it was fine but after 3 rancid bites I sent it back and they refused to replace it. I accepted their offer to take it off the bill and left without dinner. Management has changed again, the 3rd time this year. The first one was great, the second, Damion was ok, and now it is deplorable. If you want to eat here its a gamble; maybe good, maybe bad.I am attempting to report tonight's problem to the Dept. of Health.

A good way to start the weekend...2-for-1 margaritas (the medium size is a really good portion - the large might be just a bit dramatic!), friendly & smiling service, and good Tex-Mex/Americanized style food. The salsa had a good kick, and came right to the table served with chips. We also went for the queso, which was really well seasoned and loaded with chorizo. They have a "taqueria" menu for those looking for traditional, authentic Mexican flavors. I had the Carnitas, which was pretty mild on the seasoning, but was a huge platter for making my own tacos - and everything was very fresh. The enchiladas and burritos looked great - all of the portions are huge. The place was busy, and had a really nice buzz to it. Our server was new and while you could tell she was still learning, she was nice. Management came to check on us a few times.

I have eaten at Pepitos for the past 4 years and after eating there last night I must say that it has gone down hill while prices have gone up. I had the Taqueria goat tacos ($2.49 ea.), beans and rice (another $4.98) and water to drink. They charged $2.50 to order hot salsa instead of the weak regular salsa. My wife had a fairly good margarita, but at the cost of $14.95! She had a 2 item combo plate that was mediocre. The goat on my tacos was plentiful, but extremely dry. Almost inedible. All together the bill came to almost $50 and I didn't even drink anything other than water! This place has gone downhill and gotten more expensive. After 4 years, I don't think I will go back.
(3)Bob B.
Had a pretty good lunch, but the waiter was a bit blah. He was not helpful with our order, charged for lemons in our tea, and would not accept a second coupon from another party at our table.
(3)Michael N.
My local Mexican restaurant. Nice atmosphere good food. Best bet: order from the Taqueria page of the menu. There's a quesadilla with a homemade corn tortilla. Delicious: crispy and full of flavor. Enough for a meal by itself. Also try the Gordian y Sopas. Homemade corn cake sliced in half with savory ingredients inside. Watch out for the "Lonch Tacos" (lunch tacos). They're quick but just what you'd get at home. The tacos AL pastor are way better. Service can be slow during the lunch rush. Other times it is quite prompt.
(4)Julie G.
Excellent experience. Salsa had a nice kick. Enchiladas verde were outstanding. Service was spot-on. My friends raved about their entrees too. One person got a burrito and the other got tacos al pastor. This will be my go-to Mexican joint the next time I'm in the area. Sadly, the Miramar Beach location did not even come close to measuring up to the Niceville location.
(4)David N.
WOW, the service has gone down hill. We were seated right away which was good considering it was a slow nite. Took the waiter close to ten minutes to even acknowledge us. When he asked to take our drink order I told him we were ready to order and he gave us a smug look. He never checked in on us and mind you it was practically empty in there. Once they ran La Rumba and Old Mexico out of Niceville, they have let their customer service slip. I guess you can do that when you have a monopoly on the Mexican restaurant business in Niceville. By the looks of the empty restaurant, I wonder if other people in Niceville have become fed up with their poor service and have found an alternative to meet their Mexican food needs.

If you want Mexican go to: "Cantina Laredo"at Grand Boulevard located immediately past Sandestin Resort. "Pepitos" is gross! Anyone that goes here regularly probably eats regularly at "Golden Coral" enough said.
(1)Amanda G.
The margaritas here are the best!! I usually get the number #18 - chicken, rice, & queso yum. Good service - Juan is a great server! The Mexican food is as good as it can be, being that we are in florida.
(4)Stephanie C.
Best Mexican in the area. Great chips and salsa. Wonderful Waite staff with great service. Very quick from ordering to hot fresh delivery. They have a full bar. Good Margaritas and beer.
(4)Susan D.
Food is always good here, and Ted has been our waiter last couple of times we've been in, very good service
(4)Frances C.
Service was great. Food fantastic. NOW the Frozen Margarita is totally the BEST. Love it want more of it.
(5)Jared F.
Great Food, Good Price, Luis was an excellent server. The only complaint we had was the change in time of the 2-for-1 margaritas. We loved coming here because the 2-for-1 special started earlier in the evening, sadly they have changed it to start at 7 PM to close, and only on the small marg's.

We enjoy Pepito's very much. We always have great service and the food is quite tasty and always prepared just as we ask for it. The chips and salsa arrive at your table almost the second you sit down. I call that excellent service! On our most recent visit my husband had the Big S Burrito and let me tell you this thing is huge!! When it came out it looked exactly like it is pictured on the menu. The ingredients were fresh and he enjoyed it. Let me tell you though when they say BIG they mean it!! This burrito was stuffed with chicken, beef, lettuce, black beans and much more. I had the chicken chimichanga and it was perfect as always. The chicken was not over cooked and the tortilla was lightly fried which was perfect. The meal came with beans, rice and guacamole. The guacamole is very good and tasted fresh. If you are looking for good Mexican food at a great price I highly recommend Pepitos!
(5)John N.
I have tried this place 4 times now at various times of the day. Service is awful. The food makes me wonder if the owner ever had Mexican food.
(2)Bob R.
Where do I start? Well lets start walking thru the door. Seated pretty quick, thats a good start. It was kind of hard to keep up with the hostess, but we managed. That was the high point. Went downhill fast!. Our server, can't remember her name, really don't want too, well she was 1: Rude, mean, nasty, rough. Basically tossed the chips and salsa on the table. "What do you want to drink?" thats how she said it. After she took our orders, during which someone in our party ordered the "Big S Burrito" and she said, " your kidding, do you know how big that is, its the size of his forearm" thats basically what the menu said, so barring the fact we can read, we were well aware of how big it was. Finally, after a few more exchanges and slopping chips and salsa on our table, we told the manager and he assigned a new server to our table. He had a bit of an attitude also, but thats ok, he was better than the first, and because the World Cup was on TV we didn't see to much of him, although we could see him, or the back of his head as he watched the world cup on company time. Did seem to care, like when we needed refills for our drinks or more chips as it was taken forever to get our meals. Well, the food finally arrived. MMmm! I am from Phoenix and tend to compare all Mexican food to there because it's the best in the world. Phoenix and the surrounding 50 states don't ever have to worry about compitition from here. I had the Chimmichanga, my wife and son the Natchos and my sons companion had the "Big S Burrito" The Steak Chimmichanga was a flour tortilla, dry, burned meat, sparce sauce, and beans rice on the side. Horrible, even by taco bell standards. The Natchos did not resemble any Natchos I have ever seen, again Taco Bell is better. The Big S Burrito did look good and was said to taste OK. OK I have gone on long enough. Crap, Crap, Crap!!! These chains are so typical of each other. Lousy service, crappy food, waste of $62.00 and we did tell the management. No adjustment to the bill or even a free glass of tea. Save your money. When In Ft. Walton Beach and the surrounding communities eat anywhere than here. I love to give good reviews. Hate to waste time on bad ones, but in this case I must warn had working people to spend elsewere. POOOO.
(1)Ken K.
They make some awesome steak! The appetizer salsa is a bit... Yeah... But everything you actually come here for is fantastic. Very friendly staff and quick to serve. Clean and aesthetic restaurant. Menu is a bit confusing, but definitely not lacking in options.
(5)Stephanie J.
I love this restaurant. We come every Saturday after work and enjoy the house Margarita on the rocks. Louis always takes care of us and Gus is an excellent waiter.
(5)Dan F.
Food and atmosphere are ok. Service is bad. I sat down at the bar and it took the bartender over 10 minutes to ask my drink order. I was seconds away from just leaving. He finally addressed me and I got my drink order in. There was only one bartender and he was making drinks for the entire establishment and carting dishes to and from the bar. He acted flustered and hurried the entire time. After pouring four margaritas he spilled two of them while setting them down. He took a food order by memory from a group at the bar and then immediately forgot and had to retake the order while writing it down. He was constantly back and forth from the kitchen. I think a more professional image from the bar tender would help, but what is really needed is a second bar tender. It also appeared that the hostess was doubling as a waitress. This is the second time I have seen lack of service due to too few workers in restaurants of the Niceville area. I don't know if it's poor oversight by management, skimping on paying for labor or if there is a lack in available workforce. I do know this place is losing business because of their shortfall. As I waited for my drink, two young ladies came in, sat down at the bar and then left after being ignored for five minutes. As for myself, I am not sure I will visit this place again. If you like feeling invisible as you wait for drink and food, visit this place and sit at the bar.

Delicious! My husband and I drove down from Crestview for lunch today. He had the tacos, I had a chicken taco with cilantro lime and onions. I ordered a cheese enchilada and my husband ate it! Service was terrific! My husband asked for coffee. They made him a fresh pot. Our server was Luis Nava, at least I believe that is what the card says. He was so friendly! Will be back!
(5)sharon b.
I had a coupon for buy one get one margaritas and server Luis would not honor it. He said only one per table so I sat alone at a table and he proceeded to ignore me for 15 minutes. There was a buy one get one at the bar, but he didn't mention that. So I drank water. I came in at 5:40 but didn't get served food until after 7 p.m. The corn cake on the sopa I ordered was so dry and hard I couldn't pierce it with my fork. The lettuce and little bits of meat were tasty, but not worth $6.00. I actually had planned to order an appetizer, food and drinks, but after dealing with Luis, lost my appetite. I won't be back. And I will tell my friends why. There are too many places with better service and better food. I usually love Mexican restaurants, but I would rather eat taco bell than come here.

This is the perfect place to go for that 'first dinner in Niceville' or to celebrate any birthday. We went to Pepito's because it was ranked as one of the best restaurants in the area and we happen to be in the mood for some excellent Mexican Food. We were so impressed. My 'Caldo de Mariscos' (Large, custom-made soup with lots of fresh seafood) was incredible and the price was very reasonable ($13). I ended up taking home leftovers and had lunch for two days. :) Also, try the 'Tostadas' or the traditional Mexican Sandwiches, holy moly, what a great price for so much excellent food!!!! Here is the secret to ordering ONLY the best at Pepitos: When you go, specifically order off of the TaquerÃa menu (a page or insert into the regular menu) or ask for it! Their TaquerÃa menu is a list of their authentic Mexican food. My family ordered only from this page only and we were so impressed with everything that came to the table. Note to Spanish, Mexican, and Central-South American food lovers/connoisseurs: If you are used to Peruvian-style traditional ceviche (plenty of lime-lemon, olive oil, shrimp, jalapeno, cilantro, tomatoes, white or purple onion, and white fish), I warn you that Pepitos ceviche is very different and may taste more like a seafood salad to you. It is still delicious, just different than traditional. Service was excellent- we had a very friendly server named Tia. If she is available, ask for her, but all the servers looked like they were trained well and on their game. Note on Location: Pepitos is located in a shopping center close the the "Mid-Bay Bridge"- this is the closest landmark. Keep your eyes peeled. Note on wait time: If you go on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening, expect a 20-45 minute wait. This is a large restaurant that can handle both large and small groups and is VERY popular. I am not sure if they do call-aheads or reservations but it may be worth the try.
(5)Karen W.
I love this restaurant! It is the only Mexican restaurant I really like to go to in the area. I really love their traditional tacos and margaritas! And enjoy their enchiladas with their verde sauce. Definitely worth a trip!
(5)Chris P.
Excellent restaurant. The service was prompt with good attention to our needs. They handle a group of six very well. The Chilaquiles were excellent, try the green sauce. Others in our party ordered the floutas. I come to Niceville once a year and will visit this place again.
(4)Mike M.
2 for 1 drinks on Friday nights gave this place another star.
(4)Mike C.
Chose to eat at this place at 6:00 on a Sunday afternoon. I'm assuming that the wait staff was very short but the service was terrible. My drink stayed dry to the point that I walked around looking for a water pitcher to refill for myself. The food was bland, tasteless, and cold. Never again.
(1)Karin L.
Stopped here for lunch - even at 2pm, the service and food was excellent! There were so many delicious things on the menu I couldn't decide, so I tried the ceviche tostada, shrimp taco, and fish taco. All were fresh and delicious!! The seafood was amazing, and the chips were warm. Warm chips!! Definitely a sign of a successful restaurant :) Atmosphere was clean and inviting and our server was attentive. Next time I'm in Bluewater I will definitely stop again!!
(4)Raena K.
When we went to Florida we ate at Pepitos twice. The chorizo dip is perfect. The amount of chorizo is just right. I ordered the fish and it was spicy in just the right way. The next time I ordered chile relleno, quesadilla, and pork tamal. The chicken in the quesadilla was great, but the rest were just fine. My husband ordered the burrito and then fajitas. He didn't seem impressed with the fajitas, but thought they were fine.
(4)Gwen W.
Haven't been going as often as I use to, I met up with friends who still LIKE THE PLACE. I Was there Friday night. Service and quality has gone way down. Sat there an hour before our server took our food order. Watched a new bartender TEACH a new guy how to water down a Margarita! Margarita 'are watered down' they over filled the glass with ice, barely any Margarita (Pre-Made) poured into the glass, then they add MORE ICE! If you are lucky, you get three sips and it's gone! A lot of money wasted! Forget it if you wanted any alcohol, there isn't any! You can't even taste it! Use to be my favorite place to go!
(1)Shannon N.
Yummy I love the cantina tacos and quesadillas. Very yummy salsa, pretty quick getting your food and very fast seating, cant think of a time I ever had to wait. Love the Horchata!!!
(4)Christine J.
If you want mediocre tex - mex, then head to pepitos. It has everything you expect from a typical cheesy mexican restaurant. THe prices are fine and I have nothing bad to say about their service. However, since I'm from San Diego and used to good Mexican food, I'm a bit more critical and can't say I'm too impressed. I'd love to find real Mexican food in the area, but until then, Pepitos is a reasonable substitute.
