Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

While it may not have the name recognition of Satchel's or Blue Highway, what this strip mall Italian/Pizza cafe does have is the best by the slice NEw York style pizza in the Gainesville area... and it's not close. The bianca is my personal favorite. The rest of the menu is the expected Italian standards. The fettuccine is solid, the eggplant parm is delicious. Service here is outstanding. They are quick to bring refills and check on your satisfaction.

Every time we come here the service is consistently solid, food has never been disspointing in any way, and we are honestly addicted. This restaurant has some of the best service and Italian I've had in Florida. I'm a "Calzone Whore". I love them. This restaurant has some of the freshest black olives I think I've ever encountered. The Mozzarella they use is like crack. Honestly, the ingredients are all fantastic and you can tell they care about their food AND staff. The only "complaint" I have is the price to add on a salad to an item that doesn't come with one. Over $3 for a small side salad is a bit high for what you get, but truthfully that's all I can really gripe about. A New Yorker friend of ours told us the Cannoli here is "just like home" - now I know what I have been missing. Genius gem of a restaurant - and if they're packed, wait.

Stopped by since my bf and I were in the area after church for dinner. Dinnertime was busy (no tables available) so we opted to do takeout. Took about 20 mins which is ok since we could go to Publix next door to shop a bit. Menu is quite large so I felt a bit overwhelmed. I got the Linguini with shrimp fradiavolo and my bf got the Pasta Alla Burina. Both were delicious, albeit a little oily (which I'm hoping was all olive oil). The shrimp was quite good, no frozen quality, was fresh and had the tail on. My dish was quite saucy but I love something to dip my bread in anyways. It had a bite to it, hence fradiavolo and plenty of garlic, mushrooms, and basil. My bfs penne was perfectly al dente with bacon, mushrooms, a creamy red sauce (you can opt to do Alfredo), peas, and sundried tomatoes. He enjoyed it, although he wished it had more actual penne in it. Overall the main dishes were good, authentic tasting, and a decent amount of food. The salad and soup were just ok, my bfs chicken soup was a bit oily, and my salad had a few bad leaves in it. The garlic rolls were also ok. I think we'd visit again if in the area but wouldn't make the trek out there deliberately. Nice, if you're in the area and in the mood for Italian! We may try pizza next time :)

I had not dined here since back in the spring of 2011 and if anything, O Sole Mio has really improved. It wasn't bad to start with, but really seemed on top of its game tonight. As I stated in my first review, the space is small--tiny, even--yet they made it into a charming atmosphere and appear to do a fair amount of dine-in business plus a good take-away pizza trade, too. A good approach for a neighborhood Italian place. The selection of pasta dishes is impressive and they claim that everything is made in-house and from scratch: I'd believe it, the quality is obviously there. The waitstaff is very nice, polite, and prompt, and everyone seems concerned with and proud of their restaurant. I've not tried the pizza yet but I have been impressed with their pastas and salads. Certainly, I'll come back.

Went here this evening as a scouting meal for a possible get together next week. One of the things I always look for on an Italian menu is for Linguini ala Carbonnara, which is actually somewhat rare to find in American Italian restaurants, and even rarer to find it done right (restaurants avoid it because of the call for raw egg in preparation, and sometimes substitute with alfredo sauce... it just isn't right!) O Sole Mio Cucina has it on the menu (listed as Spaghetti Cabonnara). When asked, the first waitress did not know whether or not it was prepared with egg, so she had to go to the kitchen to find out. A second waiter came by moments later, and instantly knew the question as it was half way out of my mouth, and knew the proper answer to give! It turns out that pasta substitutions are fine, and instead of spaghetti we used linguini. It came with a side salad, so I ordered the Caesar. Apparently they do use anchovy paste in the dressing, but the dressing is supplied separately in a to-go cup that they obviously keep in the fridge. So instead of having the confidence to dress the salad properly, they supplied it to me to do myself. I know, this is a nit-pick, but I felt it should be mentioned. The linguini was excellent, and I enjoyed it so much that I felt an actual dessert was necessary. I ordered the Nutella Cheesecake, and was not disappointed. It was properly garnished with bits of whipped cream, though it could have done without the sifted sugar. I will be recommending this place to my dinner group.

First time here. Quite impressed with this little place --- beautiful inside, a friendly and warm greeting at the entrance. Pickup is towards the back, and the food was ready and waiting. Quick service. We had pizza, calzone, spaghetti, soup, salad and rolls. ALL AMAZING!!!!! This IS our new Friday night pizza place. We plan to be regulars!

I frequent this place a few times a month whether it be for take out or dining in. This is an excellent neighborhood Italian restaurant and I've never had a bad meal. The food is probably 4 stars but the service is what puts it over the top. The owners and the staff all remember their customers and greet them by name when they come in so you get a great neighborhood hangout feeling. The pastas are very tasty and all the meals come with soup or salad so it's a lot of food for the money. Their soups are always excellent and made from scratch. The tortellini en brodo is a family favorite. Overall this place is friendy, tasty, and a great value. So for what it is (neighborhood Italian/pizza joint) it's a gainesville 5 star all the way.

Ole Sole Mio is located in a strip mall (right next to Fuji Sushi) and it's a pretty small place so be careful not to overlook it. The interior is a lot nicer than the exterior will lead you to believe. That being said, it's still a restaurant in a shopping plaza. The staff is real nice and real helpful with any questions you have regarding the menu. The menu is pretty expansive. They include anitpasti, pastas, meats, salads, and pizza. Standard italian fare. We heard the pizza was the thing to get here, so we knew we had to get one to share. We tried the minestrone soup which wasn't great. It was very "soupy". Is that the right word? There wasn't too much filling and it kind of tasted like a watered down tomato soup. We were pretty hungry so we ordered a plate of the baked ziti and a pepperoni pizza. The baked zit came with meatballs and italian sausage. It was good, but I thought it could have been "baked" a little more. I enjoy the cheese on top of any pasta dish to be nice and toasted. The cheese on top of the baked ziti was almost kinda runny. The meatballs were good but the sausage was the best part of the dish. The pasta was cooked near al dente so it was pretty good. The pizza is probably the best part about this place. The pepperoni pizza was hot and the slices were thin and were "foldable", which is always nice. But cheese was perfect so that it left strings coming from your mouth. Always a good sign. It was a little greasy but all pizzas are to some degree. My friend also topped it off by getting tiramisu. I tried it. It was good, but I've had better elsewhere. It did, however, lack a strong coffee flavor, which I actually kind of liked. If you want your tiramisu to have a strong coffee taste, you should probably get it elsewhere. Overall, it was a good meal, but the drive out is kind of far and I could get much better pizza around town. The pasta dishes were really nothing to write home about either (even though I did). The baked ziti was about $12 while the pizza was around $10. This place is worth a shot if you're in the area and are looking for some decent Italian food.

A friend and I meet in the Jonesville area about once a month for dinner and a catch up session. Last time we went here, they charged my card for my check and hers and did not charge hers at all. I tried to contact them about the error and was interrupted several times during the conversation. I wasn't even calling to complain, just to make them aware so they would be more careful. Never did get resolve. We went again tonight, had to wait about 10 minutes for a table (which was no big deal), decided to split a pizza, She had 2 pieces, I had eaten one and was debating a second when a server came by and plopped down the check and whisked the pizza away, stating.."I will box that up for you" without even asking if we were done or seeing if we wanted anything else, no drink refills offered or anything. We usually order dessert and she gets take-out for her husband and we visit while waiting for that. By this time there was nobody waiting for a table, but we were really made to feel rushed. We placed the to go order and shared a dessert and I now have an almost whole pizza in my fridge. We pretty much have decided we won't go back. Also, their manager/head waiter or whatever his role is moves around at such a frantic pace that it is un-nerving. He actually ran once...I work in food service and if one of my staff did this they would be out the door.

Love this place. Great pizzas, great specials and great lunch! Don't miss it.

Wonderful Italian food, however, it's a small restaurant and is generally very busy on weekends. I won't go on a Friday or Saturday night again because I felt rushed, it was noisy, and there was a wait. BUT, I would go back for the deliciooous food! The servers are inexperienced, but nice and they seem to try hard to be professional. Food was very good - great manacotti and lasagna; super tasty garlic rolls. Worth going back, but only on a weekday.

... I've already noticed a bit of a slip since my first review. As a previous reviewer has said, everything other than the pizza is often way too oily and heavy. On one occasion I had chicken parmesan, the chicken was way too tough and the pasta was so oily I had a hard time finishing it. I remember it being a lot better than that and worth it's high price at least, but now it just feels like a highway robbery. The staff are all cool but I've noticed they tend to be forgetful. Sometimes I wont get any bread, sometimes they forget to include something on what I ordered, sometimes it takes awhile, things like that. I really hate to nitpick since they're all wonderful people and the service is great otherwise, but that crap gets a little annoying after awhile! My advice would be to just get pizza here and nothing else. The pizza is still fantastic and everything you would expect; good amount of cheese and toppings, perfectly foldable crust, and the perfect amount of oil. However I can no longer really recommend it over other places. I would imagine that people in Gainesville have better options available to them and Newberry residents are blessed with the greatness that is known as Villaggio's which is overall better. This is one of those "if you happen to be nearby then give it a shot, otherwise don't bother" type deals. I would love to see O Sole Mio succeed but at the moment I think that they really need to step up their game more. If they got rid of most of the stuff on their menu and mostly focused on their pizza and a couple of other Italian restaurant essentials then I can really see it going places.

Legit pizza by the slice right here in Jonesville! Yahtzee!! PS: they even sliced my son's (4) slice into bite sized pieces...good job, buddy!!

Best Pizza in Gainesville!!! I've had their regular, specialty, and Sicilian styles. All are 10's!

Had the pizza bianco today with a small side salad for lunch. Wonderful as usual!!! Make sure you get the garlic rolls when you go. They're life changing!!

Attentive staff and a wonderful smell were the first two things I noticed about O Sole Mio. We went there for lunch, and noticed about different 10 pizzas in the display. They are sold by the slice ($7.95 for two huge slices or a slice and salad). I tried the buffalo chicken pizza and four cheese pizza. Both were very flavorful, fresh, and made with quality ingredients. Once slice can suffice for a meal. They brought out complimentary rolls while we decided and our chosen pizzas were quickly delivered. We will definitely return to check out the entree items on the menu.

I've eaten here a few times with groups. The food and service have always been great. Food is made to order, tastes fresh, good sauces, well-seasoned. They split up our young children's plates to share, and did a great job with all of our special requests and serving our large group. Everything was good, from apps to desserts!

Decided to try this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. I am so glad that we did! You start your meal with delicious crisp garlicky bread, followed by soup or salad. I ordered the Alfredo and I absolutely loved it. The pasta was fresh and the sauce was creamy and light. My boyfriend wasn't pleased with his meal, simply because of his own preferences (not because of there was anything wrong with it) and the staff was so incredibly nice about it. We will definitely be back very soon.

O Sole Mio serves up terrific "New York" style pizza. It's just like they make up north - fresh cheese and plenty of oil! The best part is that it heats up wonderfully even days later. Eating in, however, was a minor disappointment. Service was terrific, and very attentive. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that this small strip-mall pizzeria offers draft beer at $2.50 a glass! I waited patiently for my delicious Stella which arrived shortly thereafter . Unfortunately, it must have been towards the bottom of the keg, because the beer was slightly flat. No-matter, it was only $2.50 anyway. Next was our soups - which sounded delicious and came with our entree's. Unfortunately, none of the 3 people at our table were able to finish it. The soup was so oily that the entire top layer of liquid was just oil droplets. The bread, which came with the soup, as really delicious, but was also much too oily - I had to use a fork and knife to eat it (which explains why it is so delicious!). I was a little surprised at how expensive the entree's where. The only thing within a reasonable price range was the very (very) plain traditional Italian dishes like the Spaghetti and Meatballs and Baked Ziti - both priced at $9.99. Both these plates were of average quality, and were very oily. Everything else was $11.99 to $14.99 which was a bit surprising for a Pizza joint in a Publix strip-mall so far away from town. Granted, you do get a salad or soup with that, but I would still like to see prices that are a bit more comparable with Pomodoro's, which has much more reasonably priced pasta dishes (but no Stella on tap :( ). The atmosphere in the restaurant is great. There was some Italian music playing in the background, and a flat screen TV tuned to the food network. The decorations, tables, and general store wide presentation was very relaxing and inviting. There is some out door seating, but I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to sit in a Publix parking lot. The Pizza take-out section of the restaurant is also well done, and still tries to give the place the feel of a restaurant and not just a take-out place. Bathrooms are very clean and well-maintained. In conclusion, I would have a hard time recommending this restaurant over other more reasonably priced competitors closer to town in Gainesville (Pomodoro's, Venice Cafe, Piesano's Stone Fired Pizza). I would encourage the owners to come up with a less expensive dinner menu, even if it's just a "specials" menu and to watch the quantity of oil in their dishes - both are currently excessive.

I was really disappointed with my meal here today. My sister found a couple bugs in her salad, we never got our bread, and all the entrees were either really greasy or had too much sauce. I ordered the veal parm. which came over pasta that was swimming in tomato sauce. The breading on the veal was soggy and the meat itself was tough. Definitely not worth $13. For the four of us eating there, the bill was $60 and all we got for the bug in the food was a simple sorry from our waitress. I will definitely not be returning here!
