The best sushi ive ever had! The service is awesome! When I lived in manhattan and went out for sushi or where ever I was besides New Smyrna it was never as good as Yu Mi and always just wanted to come back for this place.. SO GOOD! Live music and late night sushi every other Friday with a free keg of Japanese beer.. Doesn't get any better!!

Chilli has out done himself with this place. It's not your traditional sushi place, the food and atmosphere has it's own unique touch to it.

My husband and I usually do not visit local sushi restaurants as we are extremely picky about our sushi. When we do go we travel to a sushi restaurant in Lake Mary that has never disappointed us. However upon moving to Edgewater we were desperately craving sushi and did not wish to take the long drive to Lake Mary. We took a chance on NSB Yu-mi sushi house located in New Smyrna. We're both sure glad we did! First we fell in love with our waitress Becca-- she recommended some of her favorite rolls for us to try. They were absolutely delicious! My husband and I were so pleased with the rolls at the sushi house that we came back again two nites later. We no longer have a need to drive to Lake Mary as we can get the best right here at NSB YUM! The Sushi rolls that we had were fantastic, sized right and they gave you plenty per roll! Here are the ones we recommend: NSB YUM (Sushi Bar) Port Orange roll Double fantasy roll Shrimp dynamite roll Angel hair roll Tokyo Love roll Super Crunch

Service was good enough; our Server was efficient and friendly. The ambience is simple, but cozy. The beers we had were fairly priced, which I always enjoy. We both ordered Miso soup, which was an offensively salty, Dashi-like broth. It was too salty to enjoy, and neither of us could finish it. We ordered some rolls, which were nicely presented and fairly tasty, but not exceptional. The rolls were somewhat expensive. $40 will barely feed two people. Overall, this was a fair experience. I would go back, but not with sky-high expectations.

I'll come back and often..... If I have an experience like some of the reviews below, then I will re-review. Little Strip Mall place - seated right away, server on the spot, wine was good. My daughter and I split the spicy sashimi app, got two rolls and two glasses of wine - 30 bucks. Sushi was tight, rice was prepared well. Headed back tonight.

Sushi was excellent...I would recommend the shrimp tempura roll with spicy mayo added. Delicious!

Uber trendy with dark decor and house music. Sadly like most cool and good looking things substance takes a back seat. Sushi is just ok. Rice not quite right. Wasbi was dried out. No hamachi. On the other hand the jade and ginza rolls were nice despite the rice. Will look elsewhere.

Wanted to eat at Shiki by the Beach, but they've moved & we couldn't find them :-( so, we tried NSB Yu-Mi. Mixed reviews, hubby thought they were pretty good; I thought they were only OK. The service was excellent, waitress very nice & reasonably attentive. Sushi was very Americanized, lots of cooked fish, lots of cream cheese & avocado. OK if that's what you like. I'm in no hurry to go back.

The evening started out well with a cold bottle of Creme de Sake, which our waitress poured for us. Very nice. But then we didn't see her for another 30 minutes. And I am not exaggerating here. Correction, we saw her, this is a very small restaurant. We saw her at all of the other tables, taking orders, socializing, delivering food and refilling drinks. We just didn't see her standing in front of us to take our order. After she finally takes our order she insults the, apparently small, amount of sushi we order. 20 minutes later (not exaggerating) our rolls arrive. The presentation was lovely. The fish was fresh but the overall flavor was nothing to write home about. Or maybe the waitress just left a bad taste in my mouth. Will not go back.

Food-inventive, delicious Service-warm, friendly, professional Ambience-sophisticated, lovely I loved this place and so glad we gave it a try. My husband loved the ell, shumai and a dish called ?. Sorry wish we wrote it down It was chopped tuna, avocado, seaweed salad with shiracha sauce I finish it and found it to be a winner. I had the generous house salad and roll of tuna and salmon topped with lemon slices~ delicious and so refreshing on a warm evening I doubt if you'll be disappointed

Sushi can be on the cheap end, to expensive, but that's pretty much every sushi place. I got the California Sun Roll, and it was very good. Our waitress, who's name I've forgotten, was full of smiles, chatty and laughed with us on our ladies night. You get enough sake for 8 people I swear, and the ginger salad was crunchy and had just enough zing. We sat there for a few hours, ate and drank, and never felt rushed to leave. I was very comfortable just lounging.

I'm not sure where all these great reviews are coming from, but this was hands down, the worst restaurant I've ever been too. Actually inedible. I was on vacation from out of town, and around one of my last nights in town, and amongst all the great seafood that I had been consuming all week in NSB, I wanted Sushi. To my dismay, this was the ONLY remaining open sushi restaurant in NSB. Why? I don't know, because this place was garbage. Let me take you through my evening here: Walked in, and found ourselves in a lost waiting room type atmosphere. Another couple appeared already waiting to be seated, but they looked about as lost and confused as we were about to be. On the other side of this over-sized 'waiting room' type entrance, was a table of 6 that was oddly seated in such a place, because it was separated from the rest of the restaurants seating area. They didn't seem to mind, but we felt like we were in the way of their party, just by walking in the door. Eventually, we find out that there is NO HOSTESS. So here we are, standing in the over-sized waiting area of this restaurant, watching 2 waitresses frantically running around serving maybe 10 tables, one of the cooks bussing and cleaning off tables, for about 10 minutes before one of the waitresses finally turns and look at us and acknowledges all of our existence to apologize for the wait. Eventually, the cook / busser comes out, and tells the people before us, "There's a table for two cleaned up back there for you" and basically tells the party-of-2 to go back and be seated. Not showing them, not accompanying them, not giving them any menus, just blatantly telling them go go back and find it. Then a few minutes later told us the same thing. Now, you may be wondering why we are still here at this point, but It was so apparent that this is restaurant was a working disaster, that I felt obligated to stay, and later write this review. And, I really wanted Sushi. Sparing all the rest of the play-by-play details of the rest of the evening, here's a summary: * Waiting another 10 minutes before we got menus. * Waited about 20 minutes for our order to be taken (we weren't allowed to give our order on first approach of the waitress, as another table had to order before us as they were seated before us. This was a first for me) * Waited about 30 minutes for our food. * Food was disgusting. The Rice must have been sitting around for at least a day, it's was mushy, tasteless, and gross. There was hardly any fish in our rolls, and one of our rolls that we ordered had an ingredient that shouldn't have been in it (and wasn't listed to have any in it either). Left the majority of our food on our plate. * The restaurant has NO POS. Checks were hand written and calculated! This day in age, I don't understand why this was the case. * Horribly understaffed. In summary, the owners of this place should take a hard look at their operations, as I can't recall a worse restaurant experience in my recent history. As the place's decor was appealing and appropriate, the rest of the place was severely lacking in personnel, efficiency (restaurant layout, lack of POS), and food quality. Unfortunately, I don't have any other sushi places to recommend in NSB, but I would suggest any place elsewhere from this.

Had dinner with friends last night. The sashimi and Spider Roll and Snow White Roll are fabulous. Fresh and tasty. The Garlic Shrimp on the appetizer menu are delicious. I have eaten here many times. The food is always good and fair prices. I have had great service on some visits and spotty service on others. Overall good. I would recommend!!

Yu-Mi is the best sushi to hit NSB!!! If you like spicy,,they have sushi rolls ranging from a Category 1 all the way up to a Category 5! Cuidado with the 5,,but if you can eat habaneros raw then definitely try a bite with caution. :) The atmosphere is fun,,yet laid back and the restaurant is extremely clean. Service is excellent and I wished I lived in New Smyrna Beach so I could frequent it more. Have fun and Enjoy!!!

This was part 2 of my same-night NSB sushi tour. See my review of Shiki as well. The advantage, maybe, of Yu-Mi over Shiki is atmosphere....provided you are a fan of dark, trendy places. Both of these NSB sushi places are fine and worth a try.

Just tried, got right into the sushi bar. Sushi was terrific, slightly thicker cuts of fish, and just the right amount of rice. Decent prices for both Japenese beer and hot sake. We'll be back for sure.

I've tried all the sushi restaurants in NSB, Yu-Mi is def the best. We always sit at the bar, the sushi chefs are very nice and friendly and even remember us when we don't come in for a few months. Spicy tuna hand rolls are the way to go. They'll light you up and the tuna is nice big pieces. Fish is always super fresh and delicious. Get the escolar if they have it. Yum!

Went to Yu Mi sushi & the atmosphere was good, low lighting and laid back. Some of the tables were close together so if you we're in hopes for a private conversation, be aware the table next to you will probably be ear hustling. The actual food was okay, I've defiantly had better. We ordered two rolls. Fantasy roll was very bland. And I can't quite remember the name of the other but it had a spicy kick that was really good! Overall, it was a good little sushi spot.

LOCATION: Small but quaint sushi cafe - to be expected its NSB - everything is catered to the locals & has a small town feel as some customers are known by name ATMOSPHERE: think asian flare meets beach kind of feel. Lighting is pretty much dimmed down all the time. No real formal waiting chairs, the point is to walk around and see pictures and artwork for sale by the locals in the waiting area until you are called or greeted by the hostess. FOOD: I have yet to come and find my fish sub-par or the ingredients to be anything then fresh. Jon & Chilli really take pride in their sushi rolls, from presentation to flavor combinations, hence why you may wait a while even on a slow night for your food. They are about Quality not Quantity. Prices are reasonable WHAT TO GET: Hands down my favorite appetizer is the Buffalo Calamari! Sweet and tangy with a kick. My bf always gets the Kabachi Bowl - swears by the fresh tuna and rice combo. He enjoys the simple things in life. I am all about the rolls: my new favorite is not even on the menu yet. We were comped a new feature thats coming (no name either) and has Thai peppers in it with tuna and avocado... so psyched to get it again. back to the rools GET THE CRISPY CALAMARI ROLL - sounds like it has a lot in it but its delicious. The classics are good here too - the veggie, sweet potato, spicy tuna, spider and hurricane.

Meh... What can I say? Nice place, ok service... Sushi is a rice ball with a spec of fish. Way over priced.

I would give no stars if I could. The sushi does not resemble anything Japanese. If you want real sushi, do not come here.

Service was attentive, sushi was average. Nice ambiance. We ordered an appetizer, it came the same time as the sushi. Seemed fresh, but was a bit bland. Had the Mexican roll, spicy tuna and 2 others. The one with eel was by far the best.

Reviews were right on...started with the Buffalo Calamari which was a different spin on your normal fried calamari...good sweet and sour sauce on top. Then dove into the Mexican and Deluxe Tuna rolls. Very fresh and tasty. Only thing preventing a 5 star was service very slow...it was a Monday night. But since Shiki on the Beach is now permanently closed, we were happily surprised by our second choice which is now our first. !n-Joy!

I really don't know where the people writing less than perfect reviews are eating, but it can't possibly be at NSB Yu Mi... My husband and I have tried almost every roll on the menu, and have yet to experience a less than stellar experience! As a former restaurant owner, I'll admit I'm a bit pickier than most, but this place gets 5 stars across the board from this Jersey girl. At the moment, I'm relaxing on my couch with 2 perfectly made and packed Hurricane rolls, not for the faint of heart/palette, but just amazing. Yu Mi always uses high quality ingredients and I can count on friendly, great service every time! Way to go Mike and staff! You have made a lifetime customer here!!!
