Seemed like a regular bar to me. Regular menu, regular service, regular food. That was until I had the Frankenstein wing! I highly recommended them. Best wing I've had!

Great food! I highly recommend their wings, i ordered take out and they were the best wings ive ever had in my life. As for inside the resturant im not sure, never been inside but 5 stars for their wings and bugers

I came here looking for a locals bar while on a business trip. I definitely found it, but besides the great $3 drink special, it was the same tired bar you would see anywhere else. The drinks are great, and strong. However, the cons outweigh the pros. The place smells like a toilet immediately upon walking in. There was a bunch of dropped food on the seats at our table. We saw our waiter once in over an hour of being there. The singing guitar player was good but he played the same stuff you'd expect. I successfully predicted every song he was about to play. Brown eyed girl...journey...I get that people like it but it wasn't my cup of tea. And then when he's not playing, the background music is also predictable 90s alternative filler music like 3 doors down and sugar ray. Noooooo! I got elbowed by an elderly man. Odd place, but it was packed.

My first time here and the food was pretty good. Had the blackened Ahi sandwhich which I had with fries and my 2 year old had the chicken syrups for kids. Over all the food was good and the beer selection was pretty good as well. They have high chairs and are kid friendly however my daughter was the only kid there. The waitress could have been a little more attentive but overall had a good experience.

This cream cheese pasta is Sooo good ! The taste is amazing this is not a normal cream chess

They have the best wings in town hands down! The hot frankenstine are the ones to order. Some other favorites are the Cuban nachos, buffalo chicken wrap, philly wrap, chicken salad sandwich, and pirogies. The specials never disappoint either. The drinks are big, strong, and cheap so no complaints there! Merks is an awesome place to go for a few drinks and some really good food that you'll find yourself craving more and more often.

My boyfriend and I came here to try the wings. We got the Frankenstein wings and they were really good! Will be back by to get more when in the area for sure!

You can almost miss Merk's sitting there next to the bowling alley. Arrived for an early lunch on Feb 8, 2013. This is a bar menu but an extensive one. Eating around a third of an all-meat Flatbread pizza and only half of a Patty Melt had me weighed down all afternoon (and I took the other half of the Melt plus sides of potato salad and slaw home with me). There were a handful of people there before noon on a very rainy day and service was cool. I can imagine this is a decent place to catch a game or two and get to know some folks.

I LOVE Frankenstein sauce! They have it bottled for sale too. Great place for wings. I suggest getting them grilled too if you like them to be a little more crispy. They serve real blue cheese which I was happy about. The service is good. Probably would of been better if they didn't have to deal with this drunk guy that couldn't pay. Definitely the locals hangout and can get pretty crowded at prime hours like happy hour and weekends, of course. Can get loud in there. No smoking inside.

My brother and I were visiting on vacation and were looking for a place that served wings and other fried bar foods. We chose Merks based on the yelp reviews. The wings did not disappoint. I was also pleased with the tater tots. However, this is a bar, and the atmosphere reflected it. It was loud, and some customers were drunk and profane. I would not recommend this for a family dinner. If you're looking for some bar food and fun, then this is the place for you!

Good bar food and a great local spot for NFL games! Went there for the final week of the NFL season and the place was packed with many teams being represented. Lots of TVs with all of the games on and service was pretty fast.

A fun place to watch the game and have a few beers. They serve pitchers. Great beer selection. Good wings and burgers. Very good service.

This place is always busy and it seems like more of a "local" hangout. It's very dark inside too. When we went there wasn't a band playing, but I've been informed that they frequently have live music. I'm going to review this place again because all I had the last time we went was a really gross cider (not their fault because I'm the fool that ordered it, other than they probably shouldn't even stock it - I was temporarily scared from it and don't even remember the name lol ... I'll update) and chicken wings w/fries. Both the chicken wings and fries were cooked perfectly. The wing sauce (hot bbq) was not hot, but we still liked it. The fries were just that.

I was excited when I read the reviews of Merk's and the touting as the "Best Wings in NSB," so we went to check it. Initially, I heard of Merk's thanks to Central FL Trivia's event promotion for their other local trivia nights. When we arrived, we went inside and were told we could take ay table we wanted. Happy Hour was in full swing, but I didn't find their selection or their discounts particularly impressive. The service was dismal. We hadn't been at the table five minutes, when our server dropped a reserved marker on the edge of our table for a group coming in for the trivia game. She didn't bother asking us is we were planning on playing along, and if we could move to a smaller table when that time arrived. We were willing to relocate, provided we received the same service. I noticed the party in question looked peeved when they saw us sitting at "their table" and we did get the stink-eye from one of the girls on the team. Our server seemed disappointed that we were only a party of two who weren't loading up on drinks and main courses. My friend doesn't drink beer or wine and the cider and soft drink selections were slightly limited. We asked for water and it took several passes (and close to 15 minutes) for it to arrive. Though our server often checked on her tables full of regulars, I felt we were being overlooked and sometimes ignored. Eventually, the server taking care of the larger party next to us checked in on us from time to time. We ordered the lemon pepper wings (20 count), sweet potato fries, and what can only be described as nacho-style baked potato chip sample (homemade kettle chips smothered in dressing, bacon, cheese and scallions). The wings weren't anything particularly outstanding. The hype surrounding set the bar particularly high, and as we are quite the wing-nuts, we were spectacularly disappointed. Plus, we weren't given extra napkins or wet naps to help clean out fingers with. My celery sticks were also spirited away by a different server who didn't even ask us if we were finished. The sweet potato friends were tepid, so the only saving grace was the third item. During the trivia game, my impatience spiked as our server completely neglected us. Taking care of a group of drunk guys who were buying drinks from her faster than she could bring them over. I had to go to the bar myself and order my next drink, and later to get our check after the trivia game concluded. The only reason she got a tip was because the bar tender let me try out the Strongbow's Honey Apple cider. Sadly, I doubt I'll be heading to Merk's again, unless the service dramatically improves.

Came in for a late night bite with my bf, we were starving after working late. Ordered drinks which took a while (3 in total) No biggie even though it wasn't busy at 1015pm. Placed our order..... Then after waiting 40 min I couldn't bear it any longer. Told my bf to ask to get the server and find out what's the holdup on a chicken wrap and burger. Turns out the waiter never put in our order. I was beyond irritated and at this point I lost my appetite. The guy comes back and is apologetic and says he discounted our drinks and gave us 10% Off. When I look at the bill, we were still charged for the three drinks of which he states oooh I thought you each had two? Seriously?!?!? If it wasn't for my bf and him being a local, I would've walked out and not paid a darn thing. Ridiculous. I can't believe he convinced me to leave a tip!

One of my favorite hang outs in the US. Be sure and try the Philli or wings. Service is excellent and the drinks are plentiful.

Merk's Bar And Grill A great local bar and grill. Merk's has a great selection of beers, really good wings and outstanding 1/2 pound burgers, sandwiches, homemade chips and specialty dishes. Merk's is a popular place to grab lunch or just hang out with friends and watch a game. It's one of my mandatory stops when I'm either launching the boat or coming in off the water at the nearby marina. "Life's too short for bland food, bad wine, weak coffee or cheap whiskey." RS

After reading the reviews for Merks we decided to have dinner here for our first night at NSB. When we entered we were immediately confused. It looked more like a bar than a bar and grill restaurant. FYI - There are two entrances and it's hard to discern which door your should enter to be seated. The answer to that question is - either. It has self seating but good luck trying to grab someone to tell you that...so I thought I should mention it. We arrived after 9pm which caused a bit of confusion as well since there are signs posted on the inside of the doors saying something like "no one under 21 after 9pm." I have two children, ages 18 & 16. Maybe I missed the fine print saying, unless accompanied by an adult. We actually walked back out because we were concerned that the kids shouldn't be inside. We were debating on what restaurant to go to since this didn't look like it was going to work out but we opted to try to track someone down to ask. Children are allowed after 9pm, with an adult. However, I wouldn't bring younger children here but that's just me. It was definitely a bar scene which was fine since my kids are older. We were also there on a Saturday night (during peak summer season). It may be different during the week or off season. It is a local hangout so I'm not sure how much the crowd changes. Now to the food and service - The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. The speed of service was quite slow. I'm not sure if it's the kitchen or if the waitress is covering the bar and tables or what. She was very nice but could have been a little more attentive to our table. I was just happy to start my vacation and to be with my family so I didn't let it overshadow our good time. The food was great all around and the portions were very generous. Overall A+ on the food with the exception of the length of time it took to get our food. The atmosphere was fun and it looked like the regulars thoroughly enjoy this place. I wish it were in my hometown. I'm sure I would frequent it often. Thanks Merks!

Great find in the nice area of New Smryna. Walk right in, find a table in front of any of the several tvs, or hit up the darts, pool tables, or bar. Tons of beer choices!! I got the burger with fries cooked medium rare and it was so good and juicy!! Loved the fries, too, dipped in their ranch! It's a laid back atmosphere but the waiters and waitresses are still attentive. Clean bathrooms, too!

This is a fun Bar where all the locals go. Nice fish fry, too.

What an experience. I go in to try and watch NFL ticket at 12:15 and let's say they have 25 tables in the place, 15 of them are sitting empty and reserved; therefore, making zero tables available. I have never seen anything so ridiculous in my life. 45 minutes before kickoff the place 3/4ths empty but they don't want my business. Sounds well managed. While I was in there I noticed a few things. The TV's are really small and not well situated which would make it very hard to watch football there. There was also a foul smell in there that I couldn't place. Oh, yeah! The big draw to get you to watch football there was the owner's major sacrifice $.75 cent wings. Do you mean I can get 10 whole chicken wings for $7.50? I'll get right on that. After surveying the entire situation I bolted for my car. Maybe someday I will return if they have another killer special like a $5 hot dog.

A must try if you love wings. They will mix and match flavors, I ordered medium with garlic.
(4)Cherie L.
Burger, dry bread on a dry burger, Burger was ordered medium.... Worst burrito ever...where's the rice? where are the beans? It was a chicken sausage burrito. The salsa was good, the tortilla was fresh, such a disappointment. Can't understand how they can call that a burrito? Chicken sausage inside and cheese and salsa on top of a tortilla?

I was not expecting good food too! Wow! Not only was the beer selection more impressive than I could have imagined, but the food selection was great too. I couldn't decided on the beer I wanted, and I asked for an IPA. The waiter suggested an IPA from a small brewery in Tampa, that was available in a can. I was delighted. And then I saw someone walk by with an Anchor Steam, which I was totally surprised by. AS is one of my faves out here, but I didn't expect to see it served in a little ole bar in my hometown. So naturally, that was next on my list. The service was great, and we played pool which was fun. Plus they have quite a few video games to entertain the masses. For food, I just had to try their famous frankenwings and they were so good! Go Merk's! Definitely will be a regular stop when I am home visiting the 'rents!
(4)Bill M.
Great spot! Lots of locals and out of towners welcome too. Burgers are great but today I had the blackened chicken on flat bread -- outstanding! Meeks is one of my favorite spots and everyone in town knows where it is.
(4)Casey D.
Very good atmosphere. Better than decent food. Great selection of beers. Service is a little slow though.
(4)Carla F.
The only place in town I can get a Strongbow on tap. Perfect. :) Friendly staff. It's a comfy hole in the wall. Typical NSB bar.
(4)Anastacia S.
This is where the locals go, and for good reason - the food is exceptionally good, inexpensive, and drink specials run all day. It does get busy for football and service can be painfully slow when they are packed, but even then, still a great spot. Grab a 'Shave and a Haircut' (Guinness with Rum and Coke) and just relax till they get to you...
(4)JD R.
Love this place! Always good food, good service, good times!
(4)Heather D.
Awesome frankenstein wings....food is good...all around great place!
(5)Vinny F.
Merks. It's been here for a long time. It's a local hotspot that's off the beaten path. It's always busy and the wings are the best I have ever had, and I know my wings. I even had wings from the place it was invented in buffalo. My favorite is the frankenstien sauce. All the other food is good too but seriously folks, just order the wings. It's also a happening bar and it's a mixed crowd. Older folks early on and younger kids start heading late and the hardcore elderly stay late an bust a move on the kereoke stage. Lol. They have a cool deck outside for the smokers. Again it's a locals type place but they are all nice. Try it.
(5)AC D.
Good cheap food, not the best service. Will return due to fun atmosphere, prices, and numerous TVs!
(4)Kathy M.
I've stopped at Merk's a couple times after a day at the beach and have had a good time. It's very casual, almost dive-y, the food is great and they have awesome drink specials.
(4)Linda R.
Hey, the previous reviewer got it right. This place is a lot of fun, casual and the wings are really good. I must say I do enjoy the karaoke regulars. There is one older woman who sings country to her own rhythm...love it!
(4)Amanda S.
I really enjoyed my open faced ribeye sandwich and my husband would give his chicken parm sandwich 3 out of 5 stars. My friend said her fish wrap tasted of chemicals, and she had it sent back. Got a chicken sandwich instead, to go. Service was very friendly. Egg rolls were awesome.

Best folks within 100 miles! Fun place good people. We were in visiting from California.
