Grouper and chips: 1 star. Coleslaw: 3 stars. Key lime pie: 3 stars. Crab cake: 1 star. Mushy and no crab. Beer batter breading on grouper hard as a rock and thicker than a rug. Grouper overcooked. But really nice service. We had better fried grouper at Frenchy's in Clearwater.

Best Fish place in Naples, if your going for atmosphere this is not your place, if your going for the best fish in town come here! I have had many items on the menu but I pretty much get Mahi-Mahi blackened with this secret butter sauce that is like crack, also comes with white rice and steamed veggies! Mmmmmmm!

This place is just awesome. Is in a strip mall, yes, does it only seat 20 people, sure, does it have some of the best grouper I have ever had? Absolutely! The hush puppies are also fabulous and the atmosphere / staff are fun and friendly. We go here (multiple times) when we are in town and it's never disappointed us so far. I'd like to address the other reviews from folks who think the food is expensive. It's a small business who sells some of the best seafood in Naples , the locale isn't glamorous or upscale, but the food really great. So you get what you pay for, great seafood and a reasonable price, not cheap, not over the top. I have had more expensive seafood in Boston that was half the quality of what this place serves.

I'm very sorry to have to give only one star. I have always loved this place and thought the food was good and a good deal as well. My last visit was in 2011 back when Marilyn was still on the walls. The grouper was yummy and placed OVER the linguini. Today, I got a mass of greasy slop placed in front of me. The fish was in there.....somewhere.....and when I finally found it in the mess of over greasy linguini, the fish was covered with a white soggy breading! Sautéed fish is never breaded!! Fried fish is supposed to be breaded!!! Did the manager make things right? No! A very unhappy customer who sent back half of the meal uneaten paid FULL price. Back in the day 13.95 was the price of a nice size portion of this dish. (We loved taking some home for lunch the next day) now they hide behind "lunch" and "dinner" portions to hike up the price! (13.95 and approx. 21.00 respectively) Mom and pop shop: apply your own sob story sign and reciprocate the respect by realizing you're not the only people under economic pressure. Take it as a compliment when your customers choose to eat at your restaurant and make sure they go home happy! I will never go back again. I could easily make this meal a thousand times better at home!!

I was visiting family in Naples and decided to give this restaurant a try based on the Yelp reviews. It was definitely pricey. Food is ok. I ordered a lot of food for my family: fisherman's platter, bouillabaisse seafood, conch fritters, crab cakes and hush puppies. About $130. I was disappointed that the only platter I Iiked was the seafood bouillabaisse. This had a lobster tail, mussels, scallops and shrimp; the taste was really good. Crab cakes definitely had a lot of crab in it but there was an added seasoning to it that I did not like but I did not know what it was. The fried grouper was a little salty with a thick batter coat. The conch fritters had no flavor and hush puppies was ok. I am sorry but I probably won't be coming back even if it's the hidden gem of Naples. The price point does not match the food quality.

Excellent grouper and cole slaw! Service was great and prices were decent (for Naples anyway).

What a great spot ! Decor of McDonalds but fresh fish and an honest menu cooked well . When you are tired of bling and high prices eat some decent fish at this strip mall gem .

  • Dulcie F.

We ordered a whole slew of grouper and chips baskets to go, and the fish was really delicious! The fries were standard, but the fish was really exceptional. We will be back!

Ok years ago... The first time I came here with my father in-law from VA I assumed it was a "tourist thing". Wow was I wrong. If you are looking for grouper this is the place. Every time I've eaten here I've ordered the grouper basket. It comes with fries and some really yummy coleslaw. The grouper arrives at your table crispy and fresh out of the fryer. It is not greasy at all. The batter does not take away from the light fresh flavor of the grouper; its crunchiness compliments the grouper. I love to sit outside and just take in the cool Gulf breeze as I enjoy my fresh never frozen grouper. This experience is what being a Neapolitan is all about. I was born and raised in Naples. I am not one of the wealthy, just a worker bee. There is no place like Naples, Grouper n Chips embodies that.

Now, let's be clear -- this is a five-star joint *in its category.* I'm not saying the service is elegant, the china is exquisite (there's no china), or the music is played live by a graceful harpist. (There's no room for a harp.) No, this is a little family-run strip-mall eatery -- and I haven't been to one of those that hits its marks as well as Grouper & Chips does in a looooong time, Fish, shrimp and other seafood are delivered fresh every day, according to the gang behind the short counter that divides dining room from kitchen pass-through -- and it certainly tastes like it. I've had the house's namesake fish fried and blackened, and I love it both ways. The fried shrimp are also outstanding -- crispy batter, in a slightly hard-shell tempura style, around big, firm, meaty shrimp. A solid two bites per critter -- and sturdy enough to stand up not just to cocktail sauce, but sriracha too, if that's your style. The crab cakes are ... Oh, the crab cakes. They're among the best I've had, and I've spent time in both the Deep South and Washington, D.C., with easy access to the finest the Chesapeake Bay has to offer. These, though, are just inspirational: rich, pretty much filler-free, and served with a beurre blanc that makes 'em downright sinful. Do not get me started on the clam chowder, because I'm too busy stuffing it in my face right now. (Not really. But good lord it's good -- rich, velvety, and probably not in any way made with an eye toward heart-healthiness.) Desserts, both key lime pie and chocolate mousse, are made in-house from the matriarch's family recipe. And that third item on the dessert menu -- the Dark & Tart? Well, that's key lime pie served with chocolate mousse on top instead of the usual whipped cream. It's death to your diet, but pretty damn tasty. I'm still working my way through the menu, but so far I think my favorite thing is the caesar salad with blackened grouper. The fish is sturdy and creamy, the blackening blend as much savory as spicy, and the portion (about 7 or 8 ounces of fish atop a generously dressed two cups or so of salad) a healthy one. Delicious.

Cute little neighborhood place, very casual and the food was amazing! The fish tacos were to die for and the grouper and chips was outstanding! We will definitely be back!

Wonderful local place. Cozy and great food and service. Would defiantly recommend to anyone hungry for the best fried grouper ever!

  • Justin B.

The best grouper sandwich I've had in Naples. Not traditional to what you'd find in the Keys "Cuban Bread". But still fresh and delicious. We'll be back for sure.

  • Adam S.

The grouper is definitely fresh and definitely tasty. No doubts there. But, as others have pointed out, this place is pretty pricey and the grouper portions are not that large. It was around $45 for two entrees, a kids meal, and sodas. That's a lot considering we were eating fried fish, french fries, and chicken strips. Also, the grouper portions were on the small side. Each piece was maybe slightly larger than a deck of cards. I want to stress again that the food was good though. Well fried, and with a nice batter. Also, the server was very friendly. I think I would come back, but only if I felt like shelling out the dough...

My girlfriend and I went in for dinner; we ordered the hush puppies which were delicious and split a 2 piece grouper basket which was also very good. The reason I am giving this restaurant 2 stars is because of the staff. Our waitress seemed quite annoyed that we split a meal and did not order key lime pie and actually made a joke to the hostess asking if there was one or two people at our table. Then the hostess brought the check "no hurry" but took our plates with food still on them without asking if we were done. That was a first for me. I have been saying how impressed I am with the politeness of people in Naples my whole trip so this was very disappointing and with so many choices I will not be returning.

  • Sheila M.

My mom and stopped in for lunch today with our dog. The waitress brought a dog dish over before we even sat down! Our food was delish. Mom had the fried grouper sandwich and it looked good, I had the sautéed grouper with veggies and it was amazing! The waitress was as nice as could be and the service was top notch. There aren't a ton of tables, but we got one in the shade immediately and were greeted with smiles. It was also written up in the NY Times! I am definitely going back.

  • Theresa C.

Like a lot of people here, the grouper sandwich is flippin' amazing! It's battered and fried but not that nasty grease taste. Just pure goodness. It tasted so fresh, I wonder if the little guy was only swimming in the sea earlier that day. Topped that with fries and coleslaw and it was pure heaven. I also had to try the key lime pie. It wasn't a beauty to look at but it was so delicious. Hands down the best piece I had during the whole trip. The staff was excellent and fast especially considering I was waiting for take-out. I didn't eat inside but it looked a little tight with limited seating. This is definitely on the list of places to go next time. A couple months later, I'm still dreaming of that yummy sandwich.

I've had this place bookmarked for quite sometime and finally stopped in. It's very small and you'll definitely hear everyone's conversation, but it's not uncomfortable. We stopped in for the basics, Fish & Chips and tried their Hushpuppies. The grouper was delicious! Fresh and no fishy aftertaste, the Hushpuppies were below average. I must admit it's a bit pricey, but I was warned by a fellow Yelper of the prices. I still recommend it, they were good.

  • Kira V.

Really great sandwich. Fried grouper was great. Sysco cold slaw so they lost a point for that but for a sandwich joint it was good. Service was friendly and attentive.

  • D D.

The food was very good - I had the namesake, and a cup of Seafood Chowder. Everything I had was fresh, homemade and cooked well. Solid - very good but not great. Restaurant is small, was warm on a hot summer evening and a little musty. Service was fast & friendly.

Took a detour when traveling from Tampa to Miami only to stop at this place and have the grouper. Been here many times in past years, and their blackened grouper is the best fish I have ever had. Absolutely delicious fish. Rating this place 5 stars, does not make it a 5-star restaurant, but when it comes to a mom-and-pop fish restaurants, this is the best place there is.

    (5)
  • J Matt S.

Decent grouper, but worth the price? I don't know, maybe I just can't truly appreciate why seafood has to cost so darn much, especially in a hole-in-the-wall type of joint. For example, 2 Burger & fry combos at your favorite burger joint (5 Guys, Ruby Tuesday, or your local mom and pop burger place) will run you about $20 total for takeout. Two grouper & fry combos here? $30. I mean, it's pretty good grouper, certainly better than anything up in Lake County. But this is a no frills take-out seafood spot in the middle of dozens of other seafood places, shouldn't it be lighter on the wallet? I'm not sure we will return the next time we are in Naples.

Small place but has the BEST grouper in Florida!! Situated in a strip mall and easy to miss when driving down route 41, you must stop here for friendly, fast and great food.

Such a fantastic hidden gem. Tiny place but the best grouper I've ever had. Super fresh and flavorful (no sauce needed). Crispy fries, tasty coleslaw, yummy key lime pie with dark chocolate mousse (dark & tasty). Very affordable and friendly service. Open until 9 most nights, Wi-Fi, great local joint!

This (pricy) restaurant has the best prepared grouper I've had in the twenty plus years I've been coming to Naples. Obviously the fried grouper is incredible (get three pieces to have a bite for tomorrow). The blackened grouper with linguine is delicious, too. Perfectly cooked fish and pasta (which is rarer than one might think). Outside of the grouper, the clam strips are to-die-for and the homemade tartar sauce is much, much better than the average store bought quality. My family has known the owner for years and we have consistently gotten wonderful service and feel very welcome, even with a wait or on a hot day where we are forced to sit outside because of the crowd. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is the lack of space inside the restaurant and the awkward hallway in which two very small bathrooms are located. This is a must go-to place in SW Florida and I hope to come back for years to come. 4 stars.

Had the blacken grouper sandwich. The kaiser roll was soft and tomato . Cole slaw is crunchy with right amount of mayo. Bottomless unsweetened ice was very good.

  • Donna L.

As most have said in their reviews this place is tiny, only a handful of tables. We went on a Wednesday night and got a table right away. The staff was very accommodating to the customers coming in. Our waitress recommended the lump crab cake and said if we were not satisfied she would buy it. She said she hasn't had to buy one yet. And she didn't buy ours. It was delicious and had a lemony butter sauce. We both had the fried grouper sandwich. Light and yummy! A must order. The coleslaw was creamy and very tasty. I am giving 4 stars only for the fact that while dining I noticed a bug (not sure what kind) on the table. Having been in the business I know it happens. The place needs a little updating. The carpet is thin and worn and could be replaced. Great food and great service.

  • Elisabeth A.

This place was extremely tasty. By far the best fish--Grouper!--I've ever eaten. Hush puppies were superb, garden salad above standard with steamed carrots, zucchini, and broccoli to boot!

  • George G.

This place was great! I ordered an absurd amount of food to go. They packed it well and it tasted awesome. Everyone was polite, the place looked clean, and it was slammed from the moment I walked In through the time I left. I'll definitely be going here again!

    (4)
  • Terry S.

Good. Not great. Batter a bit heavy, but seasoned well and not greasy. Crisp fries. Flat coke. Had better, had worse. Friendly service. Tables are really really really close (and few) even for Naples. Would return if in area, but not worth a long drive or wait.

  • Caitlin C.

Definitely get some groupers of you come here. The grouper and chips are magnificent. I recommend getting blackened grouper or the half shrimp half grouper combo. The restaurant looks very cool but it very cramped up. You can take food to go. Price is a little too high. It's kinda hidden in a strip mall so make sure you are looking!

    (4)
  • Pappy H.

First-time here. Syd ordered the mahi tacos. Make yourself style. They bring all ingredients to pack em full or lite. Fresh fish. I had fried and sauteed grouper. The fried grouper was in a lite crispy batter. Not the usual grease filled stuff. The sauteed grouper is done in a egg batter corn starch batter. Not traditionally sauteed. Nice staff and laid back atmosphere. They have conch fritters and hush puppies.

  • Brooke L.

Small hole in the wall, great grouper! Tasted fresh (as it should in FL), non-fishy, light and flaky. A little pricy tho. A 2 pc basket was about $14. Also had the hushpuppies w/ yummy chipotle mayo. Very mom & pop, nice friendly service, could stand to turn the air down since the close quarters causes the room to get quite warm. Serves beer & wine too.

    (4)
  • Cheryl M.

Split the blackened grouper sandwich with the lady. Pretty decent. The grouper was on the smaller side and therefore I wish I had more. This is why i dont like to share!!! Happy that we stopped and will go again! Totally wish I had access to a restaurant like this for lunch.

After a long day in the Evergades, we didn't want a heavy meal; just looking for a decent sandwich, on the way back to Bonita Springs...We found this place during the Fri evening dinner rush & the fact that it's indoor seating is VERY LIMITED didn't help the wait...Now, with that being said? Let me say--the wait staff hustled and we found ourselves at a table w/in ~15-20 min...My husband and I both ordered the Blackened Grouper sandwich basket, which was delivered in a very reasonable amount of time. The grouper? Cooked to perfection! Just the right amount of seasoning. I expected the fries to be the typical soggy, poured-out-of-a-bag, previously frozen quality, but they were surprisingly crisp and good! (Even IF they were from a bag?) I didn't try the cole slaw, but my hubby ate both portions, so it must have been decent... Our waitress might be perceived as a little 'rough around the edge', but she was a darn hard worker & VERY attentive (filled my hubby's DC glass--twice--before he ever had a chance to request..He was duly impressed!) The price was not inexpensive (~$38 out the door), but we've paid more and been significantly less satisfied...although the seating is cramped, they obviously are doing something right to have stayed in business for over a couple of decades--my guess is, they have treated the locals well with great food at a fair price... We would definitely return.

Grouper and Chips is a mainstay in my Naples restaurant rotation and for good reason. It's a tiny place in a strip mall, but I've never had a bad meal here. For starters they make an incredible clam chowder. Even better than that is the blackened grouper linguini which you can get at lunch time for less than 15 bucks! It comes with julienned carrots and zucchini and a lemon garlic sauce. My go to and by far my favorite menu item. The fish and chips and the grouper sandwich is also awesome. If you're looking for some local no frills Gulf seafood this is the spot. It gets packed, especially during snow bird season, so expect a wait - but don't forget they do take out.

Loved it! Delicious, fresh and homemade everything! Can't ask for more! Hope to be back soon!

This place is small and relatively cramped. There is a small patio area outside, but the tables blend in with the restaurant next door's. The waiting area is a row of chairs in a knee-crushingly narrow hallway outside the kitchen. That being, said, the food was excellent. Fish was fried well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the same goes for the french fries. My girlfriend has the salmon special and said it was good as well. Service was definitely above average. Waitresses were friendly, drink refills were fast and often, and they checked several times to make sure everything was okay. In between serving us the staff was chatting with regulars and joking with each other, and it set a very friendly and homey vibe. It's a nice little place to get some food. Expect to pay about $15 a person. We at ate an off time so the small dining space wasn't an issue at all for us, but during busy times you may want to pick up food to go.

  • Gerry S.

Ordered the grouper and chips. Excellent. Light batter not too salty. Fish very fresh. Fries hit and crisp. Very small restaurant. Most of the other patrons seemed to be local and knew waitresses by name.

  • Eric K.

Small, quant, local place. Service is top-notch. Quick. We thoroughly enjoyed the grouper basket and Caribbean fish soup. We will definitely will return. Their menu also has some nice seafood pasta items, desserts, wine, etc.

Hole in the wall. And their fish is fresh. This is the type of place you'd like to find when you are visiting from out of town. The waitress April was great and beautiful.

    (5)
  • Bill H.

A really small intimate place - not many seats like 20 or so. The food was decent - had the fried grouper. Service was fast and efficient. A really small mom-n-pop shop - much better than any fish-n-chip chain. Worth supporting the local families.

    (3)
  • Joseph Y.

For the main course, we had the grouper & chips - my wife absolutely loved it. I thought it had a very fishy taste. I thought that was good and then my wife said maybe it was bad, but at any rate, I'd come back and recommend this place. We also had the key lime pie, the jumbo lump crab cake appetizer and some of the spicy soup, all of which were good.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! total hole in the wall / local spot. Super fresh grouper & chips. I recommend this spot to anyone that will listen.

  • Mark W.

Best grouper sandwich in town! Great fish tacos as well. Atmosphere, well it doesn't matter because you will be lovin every bite! Locals love this place for a reason. The owner is French trained chef and it shows in the sauces and dishes.

  • Ed V.

Fresh product good recipe, the fried grouper and chips are very good. Seating indoor us limited and staff were friendly. Id like to see the carpet get replaced but rest of decor was pleasant. I like the small menu, they focus on what they do well. Seafood chowder is real good, crab cakes just ok. This place has all the essentials and with some effort to detail and a couple additions to the menu could be playing at the next level. I will return here.

    (4)
  • Jason A.

This place is just a great hole in the wall. Maybe seven tables inside and that many outside. The food was really good and they serve plenty of it too. Be sure to arrive early.

    (5)
  • Dann A.

Like most of the reviews, I have nothing but positive things to say. I had the blackened grouper and it was awesome. I sincerely wish I could remember the servers name because she made the experience. The place is small. Imagine having a dozen tables set up in your living room. But, if you're looking for something a little different than traditional (read: "boring") family restaurants. I recommend this place.

    (4)
  • Barbara K.

This restaurant reminds me of the original Legal Seafood in Inman Square in the 70's BEFORE it went commercial and cloned itself. To anybody familiar with Boston, that's the highest compliment a seafood restaurant can get. We shared all the courses, which were generous enough for two: crab cakes, Cesar Salad, and bouillabaisse. We skipped dessert but it looked good. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere and friendly service. The negative, the tables are a tad too small to fit all the plates.

    (4)
  • Chip J.

Just so good. Local, hole in the wall and that's fine by them. Fish n Chips is as good as it should be considering the name of the place, but there's more. The blackened mahi mahi linguine dish (with veggies) is possibly our favorite meal in all of Old Naples! Usually get it 3x a week when we're in town. Enjoy.

I love coming to this place when I'm passing through Naples. Fast service, friendly staff, comforting atmosphere.... and just two words: CHICKEN MILANESE!!!!!! Seriously, the Chicken Milanese is amazing!!

  • Leslie T.

Very good little spot for lunch with ice cold beer to boot! I had the blackened grouper sandwich with fries (frozen fries - but they didn't taste like it - I asked the waitress 'cause my friend said she thought they were frozen, but I didn't believe it), my husband had the fried grouper and chips and enjoyed it, and our friend had the conch fritters and said she had better and she said it was too greasy for her taste. I tried one and didn't think it was THAT bad, but I have had better, too. Nice friendly young woman behind the counter who also waited on us as we decided to stay and sit inside.

    (3)
  • Eric S.

Overpriced and a little disappointing -- good fried grouper, but the conch fritters were mostly filler and mushy inside. My daughter had the grouper nuggets with fries ($6.95) and my wife and I shared the basket of grouper (2 pieces, about 8 oz. total) and 4 fried shrimp with fries ($21.95). Wait staff was a bit brusque... Not quite rude, but close. Total bill for lunch for 2 adults and one 9-year old with 2 sodas was $51.95 plus tip. Not really worth the price.

  • Tim L.

My wife and I always stop here when we're in Naples. It's a great place for quick, local fish. It's nothing fancy, but it's good. I like the fish tacos. You can get it to go too, which is what we usually do as the dining room is nothing special. Most of what they do is fried fish, but they also have some pasta and seafood dishes, although I've never tried those. But this is a great place for a grouper sandwich.

    (4)
  • Jim R.

Amazing little hole in the wall, you must try the grouper and shrimp, plus the best crab cakes I've ever had! Very reasonable prices, excellent food, great service (Lana is awesome), very casual, delightfully tacky interior, loved it!!! The key lime pie is home made and the best!

    (5)
  • David L.

Small and tight but the food was ok. The servers were a bit overwhelmed but were trying to overcome. The popularity may be a hindrance. Food was ok but not a must return with all the other options in the area.

  • Michael J.

I've been here before and the grouper and chips are great (of course). On this trip I've been in search of great fish tacos. So far, Tommy Bahamas (twice) and The Dock both have proven to be good options. Neither beats this place. Their fresh catch, build your own, blackened fish tacos are the best in Naples.

    (4)
  • Missy C.

This is a very small and very busy restaurant. Inside they have 5 tables that will accommodate two people and three tables that we'll accommodate 4 people. There are several tables for outside dining as well. The service was quick and prompt. The food came out quite hot, which is a nice treat considering how food comes out from kitchens these day's. The portions are good size and the prices are fair. The lunch prices were reasonable but the dinner prices seemed quite pricey for the location, type of restaurant and ambiance. After all this is a small strip mall style restaurant. Ambiance 3 stars Food quality 4 1/2 star's Service 4 stars

This restaurant is one of those hole in the wall spots that packs a great punch. It is family owned and operated, and the service was top notch. The conch fritters were excellent, fish tacos delicious, and the fried grouper and chips were the best I have had. Every detail of our meal, down to the fresh guacamole and crispy coleslaw could not have been better. Just a note....the pin point on the yelp map is wrong. The location is actually 7 blocks north on the right hand side.

  • Elle H.

This is a great local find... and super small, so come early or be prepared to wait. Fresh fish daily and several ways to have it prepared (fried, blackened, grilled, etc.) We get everything from the grouper to the chicken strips. Comes with fries, or veggies. A million sides and options, plus soda, beer, and wine. Great homemade desserts too. One of our favorites as locals.

Usually Yelp guides me in the right direction, but I did not have a very good experience at this restaurant. Actually out of all the places I've eat at in Naples over the past month, this was probably my most disappointing experience. I should have known by my gut instincts when I walked into the place and the stench of fish was a bit overwhelming. I know it is a seafood place, but the fishiness was a bit much. My family ordered a variety of items from conch fritters to grouper & chips as well as the fish tacos. Probably the best item was the fish tacos, but they weren't anything better than you can find up the road at some of the other tex mex joints. The conch fritters were plain and the grouper was a little dry/overcooked for my tastes. Unfortunately for this place, I have already been spoiled by some of the other dining experiences I've had in Naples to date.

Awesome food. Seating is tight but if you love "hole in the walls" this place is for you.

If you're a fish-lover this place is a must. The broiled grouper is to die for, fresh from the sea. The atmosphere is a bit goofy with pink walls and James Dean posters, but that's what I love about it. Meals are a tad pricy for a locals joint ($15 for a 2 piece grouper basket) but totally worth it. I'd have lunch here everyday if I could.

We were at Grouper and Chips last night. Very quaint small family owned restaurant. Food was marvelous! Grouper was so fresh and delicious. Cole slaw was great. We will definitely eat there again!

That was some good grouper. Staff was very friendly. Would definitely go back for more. Everything just tasted fresh never frozen and that's always a good sign with me.

this place is great. the staff was very helpful. the grouper was tasty and the special which was linguini and mahi was very good. the key line pie was out of this world.

Small "Mom and Pop" with about 8 tables. Arrived at 6:30 on St. Pattie's night during spring break in Naples. Fully expected to be waiting for a table, but it was quiet and we got right in. Enjoyed the Linguine with Blackened Grouper. Huge portion of tasty fish. Linguine was just OK. Lots of garlic and butter but the pasta was a bit dry. Pre-cooked? Came with a small portion of broccoli, perfectly cooked. Some carrots and zucchini mixed in with the linguine. Fresh, hot rolls were fantastic. Great service from a super friendly staff. I would eat here again.

Stopped by while driving through on our vacation, and all I can say is "Hidden Gem" My wife and I stopped by while driving through on Vacation and we couldn't have picked a better place. I ordered the Grouper and Chips which were delicious! Nice big chunks of grouper battered and fried - sooo yummy. It was chance that my wife came here too.. she originally was going to get a slice of pizza next door but, to her benefit, that pizza joint was closed. She ordered the Chicken Milanese and it looked great. I had a bit, and never had I tasted such moist and delicous chicken breast(chicken breast is usually dry)! The milanese sauce was amazing too, paired with some steamed veggies, it was a great choice! Sadly, we're from Seattle which means a very unlikely chance we'll ever be back... but if we DO ever make out to Naples again, Gulf Coast Grouper and Chips will be a MUST for us!

Would be a 5, except atmosphere. Food was amazing! Try the blackened grouper tacos or linguine- awesome!!!!

Small cozy dining room, efficient and friendly staff, and excellent food. I had the salmon special - came with fresh steamed vegetables, rice and roll. The salmon was great - maybe a bit too much lemon butter- the vegetables were cooked to perfection. I also ordered the hush puppies - yummy. I love that it is family owned too.

This place was amazing! The dining area was a little small but was able to accommodate 12 of us. I had the grouper basket...best fried fish I have ever had! It was deep fried perfectly, super crunchy on the outside. It is a little pricey but definitely worth it every time!

This place is great. The place is unassuming, it's in a strip mall for crying out loud, but don't let that fool you. Our service was great and the staff is super friendly. I had the fish tacos and my wife had the grouper and chips. We were just so happy with our food. Super tasty! We'll be back next time were in Naples.

  • Jennifer M.

This place is such a gem!!! Reasonably priced, but the prices are soo low compared to the quality of food that is served. It's a steal!!! Don't expect gorgeous atmosphere though. The chairs and seats are very basic to say the least. Small flaw because the greatness of the food steals the show. Also, the wait staff is top notch and super friendly. We are now starting a tradition of coming here every time we visit Naples! Well done!!

We decided to try Grouper & Chips based on the Yelp reviews. At first we skeptical, due to the location. After all when you vacation in Naples, you naturally want to seek atmosphere. Glad we went in. The food was excellent. My mother tried Grouper for the first time. She raved! Couldn't believe how great the dish was. I went for the a broiled version of the Fisherman's platter. Great variety, proportions and taste! Highly recommend. I would have given them 5 stars for the food, but took away 1 star for the exterior of the building.

This place is why Yelp! exists. I was just looking for a seafood place with good reviews and this one stood out. You people were right. I loved it! There is nothing touristy or fancy about this joint. It's kinda hidden in a little strip mall so you have to know what you're looking for. Once you're there you may have to wait for a table, inside or outside. We only waited 5 minutes for an inside table. The service was very good and extremely friendly. She chatted with our boys and paid very close attention to all the tables. They can hardly help it since the whole place is the size of a large bedroom. The bathrooms are very clean and feel very little like public restrooms. The whole place just has this kind of clean hole in the wall feeling. Like it's been there forever and they don't change it because there is no reason to. And it all comes down to this: THE FOOD IS AWESOME. Seriously, The seafood is super fresh and perfectly prepared. We had the fried grouper baskets and hush puppies appetizer. It was all sensational. I will go back here over and over again. And recommend it to friends. And add to the urgings of other yelpers to lost souls to go out and find Grouper and Chips. But only if you want great food from nice people.

3.5 I've had mixed experiences here. The first time I went, I got the linguine special with seafood, but it was too buttery and it had too much seasoning. I didn't like it. But I was really craving a good fish sandwich, so I decided to give this place another shot. I got the grilled grouper sandwich basket and the bf got the fish tacos. The sandwich was plain and simple, yet still managed to wow me. The grouper was cooked perfectly, and with the lemon and some tarter sauce, YUM. The fries were okay, nothing to rave about. The tacos were good as well and the sides that came with it were generous. There's not really an atmosphere, but worth going when you're craving simple food. Don't try to get the fancy stuff though, it'll probably be a let down.

  • Becky T.

Love this place! Best grouper I've had in the area, delicious hush puppies (perfectly fried but not heavy) and I like the black beans and rice. There's indoor and outdoor seating, but its minimal. We've been able to get tables if we go early but by 6:00-6:30 it's packed.

  • TJ S.

What can I say beyond this has been the best place we have eaten all week. Blackened grouper was amazing. Mahi linguini was amazing. And of course we also had the grouper and chips. Amazing. Just amazing. The key lime pie is homemade and delicious.

This place is INCREDIBLE!!!! It's my GO-TO spot for fresh seafood everytime we come to Naples, which has been for the past 25 years now. DO NOT BE FOOLED by the location in a tiny strip mall!!! This place is the real deal!!! Boulabaise is amazing, and anything with Grouper in it you cant go wrong!

  • Amy N.

Looks like a little dive in a strip center but the food is excellent. My husband had the bouillabaisse, I had the fried seafood platter, and our son had chicken strips. All was perfectly done. We will be back (maybe tomorrow).

Coming from a landlocked state, when I'm somewhere that actually has immediate access to seafood, I'm sure to seek it out. There are few things better than a good place of perfectly fried fish (accompanied by crisp fries, of course!) so after seeing all the good reviews for this place on Yelp, we decided to check out Gulf Coast Grouper & Chips. Even without Yelp, I think we would have guessed this place was good because if the quality of a restaurant is indicated by where the locals eat, GCG&C must be one of the best places in town. The place was PACKED, and while I grant you the actual restaurant isn't much bigger than some studio apartments in New York City, the fact that lines were trailing out the door and the phone was ringing off the hook the entire time we were there for pick-up orders surely must tell you something. To maximize space, tables were squished close together (great for eavesdropping on other diners' conversations... whether you want to or not!), but we did manage to snag a small table right by the door. We decided to start with an order of conch fritters and then split the Fisherman's platter. The fritters were really creamy and well spiced, and the Fisherman's platter would have put a smile on Poseidon's face, so bounteous was this meal! It easily fed the two of us, and included fried shrimp, scallops, hushpuppies, 1 piece of grouper, and one lobster tail. Everything was cooked really well (note: it's SO easy to overcook seafood, but this place knows what they're doing), and the scallops in particular were super delicious. Of course, given the name of this place, you'd expect the grouper to be good, and it was! I'd happily come back for a grouper sandwich or basket if I didn't feel like sharing! Because of the volume of customers and the fact that there were only two waitresses on duty, things were a little frazzled. Food was served fast, but we had to go up to the counter to get refills on our drinks and to ask for our check. No one really checked on us after our food was brought out, perhaps because we'd have to be crazy to complain, but still, as friendly as everyone was, it was clear that the emphasis was getting food out as quickly as possible and not much else. This isn't fancy schmancy food, but it is tasty and well-prepared. Clearly the cooks take pride in what they do and that really shows itself in the final product. If you're craving a nice piece of fried fish (even if they offer non-fried options as well), this is definitely the place to check out.

Just what I wanted, fish and chips with fresh fish! I am a big eater, but could only eat two pieces. Definitely will go back again, but after looking at other orders, I will sample something else because it looked so good.

  • T W.

Love the food however, the atmosphere has gotten to be too much. The last 2 visits the owners and staff talk loud and treat the space like a bar. When you are spending $80 for 4 people to have lunch it would be nice to have our own conversation. They need to respect the dining experience. Their blackened grouper linguini is wonderful.

Small restaurant in mall strip with big and fresh flavor! We really enjoyed the grouper sandwich my husband ordered and my blackened grouper Caesar salad was light and flavorful too. The kids enjoyed the "dark and tart" pie: a homemade key lime pie with chocolate mouse topping. I am a key lime purist, but this was an interesting twist. I would definitely return when in the Naples area.

I ordered a 2-piece grouper & chips basket to-go with a steamed veggie substitute for the french fries. The steamed veggies were steamed fresh vegetables and quite nice. The deep fried grouper had a nice thin but cohesive golden fried batter that was not greasy. The fish was slightly underdone the way you want fresh fish to be, and it obviously was fresh as it was tasty, and had all the best characteristics of grouper with no fishiness whatsoever. The small side of coleslaw was creamy without being obnoxious and slightly sweet with a note of horseradish that made it quite good. The only thing I didn't like was being asked to sit in the hallway while I waited for the order. It's small and dingy and awkward and claustrophobic. However one of the kitchen folks was humming a mellifluous song from his land of origin I think.. not sure where... Haiti? Jamaica? It was lovely though. Service people were kind and sweet. It was $18 (included a to-go ice tea) and I didn't leave a tip because it was a to-go order. I'll be back. The interior is very small and could use a new, cleaner floor. Perhaps they should get the place next to them since it was empty. It would be a good investment for a solid grouper and chips place like this.

We were on holidays with family in Naples and decided on Gulf Coast Grouper and Chips since it was close to our hotel and we were all famished after a long day at the beach. It's a small restaurant with some outdoor seating beside the parking lot. Service was terrific, friendly and attentive. The fried grouper was well done, tasty and crispy not soggy. On the other hand the sauteed grouper was a bit of a letdown, covered in a buttery sauce with soggy mixed vegetables. The fish tacos were salty served with a bland salsa and black beans.

    (3)
  • Kelly B.

Had the fish tacos. Not only was the fish delicious but the rice and beans on the side were delicious. Plus there was a side of guac! My mom got the fried grouped basket... can't go wrong there. Washed it down with a cold beer. All for under $30. Perfect.

  • Pete O.

Being in Naples on vacation and using Yelp as a guide, I knew this was the place to try for a good grouper sandwich. I was not disappointed. Everyone in our party had a great meal and always a plus to have outdoor seating when in beautiful florida.

  • Zach S.

The first time I went there it was flawless. I had the fried grouper & chips. The next time I had the fried haddock and fries. Wasn't too crazy about the haddock. Their menu looks pretty good, and overall it's a step above most seafood places in Naples. Service has been quick both times.

    (4)
  • Jeff C.

This is the kind of place the locals wish that tourists would never find, since in season it is crowded, even though it's worth the wait. Best fried grouper in the known universe, served by a friendly and attentive staff in a friendly atmosphere. Regulars willingly greet newcomers and suggest dishes, you should feel free to join in the conversations and camraderie. For a special treat, ask for Zina Chicken, it's not on the menu and only available by request.

  • Oyster P.

The best conch fritters! I could've eaten 2 orders myself. No need for dipping sauce. They were perfectly seasoned, tender but crispy. Awesome!!!

  • Gina M.

Located in a little strip mall, it is hard to believe how amazing their food is. Every time I come to Naples I eat here at least once or twice. The grouper and chips is what I usually get because it is so good. But I recently had a special which was grouper cakes and it was one of the best meals I've had down there. You have to go here to understand what I mean...yummy!!!

    (5)
  • Levi S.

We enjoyed our experience here. Seafood was fresh and batter was tasty. The staff was competent and friendly, but a little firm. The place is small, so we ended up sitting on the sidewalk, which doesn't have much room either. Would consider going agian the next time I'm in Naples.

    (4)
  • Mark L.

This is an awesome little place. The grouper is done anyway you like. Try the blackened version if you like a little kick. Their food is fresh and they offer great take-out. Every time I drive past here I think, "I have to get back there soon".

    (4)
  • Robert M.

Excellent and fresh grouper....there should be more of these restaurants. Everything tasted delicious! Too bad the restaurant isn't bigger! You go for lunch, however, the food is good enough for dinner, just lacking a little atmosphere. Very fresh and good tasting. Grouper is the fish of Southwest Florida and nobody does it better than them...

  • Hugh M.

Food was great had Blackened Grouper Linguini. it's one of those holes in the wall places but well worth it. Not cheap though, wife and I got the 2 for $30. Came with soup(very tasty) soda, entree, and shot glass desert. Service was good too. We went late so food didn't take long. About 10 minutes :-). Most defiantly we will be back. Don't bring a group cause you'll fill up the hole place.

Tiny place in a nondescript strip mall but the fish is excellent! Fish tacos and blackened grouper were top notch!.

  • Ann K.

Great, little divey spot in pretentious Naples. The food is fresh, homemade and well prepared. The service is friendly and down-to-earth at this tiny, family owned restaurant. A good sign that this place is terrific is that the locals all frequent it. I recommend the fried grouper and the crab cakes. You can also order carry-out.

    (4)
  • Bill P.

Love this hole in the wall. Great fresh fish. Fish tacos are local favorite. Grouper baskets are huge and taste great. Specials everyday are two means in one. Very limited seating inside and out, but the wait is worth it. Very friendly wait staff.

  • Fabiola C.

Overpriced! Fish tacos had great flavor, however fish portion was very very small. Not enough for 3 tortillas.

    (3)
  • Megan S.

Food: fantastic for the price. Service: personable and nice. Ambiance: casual and quaint. I had the Salmon of the day. My husband had the grouper (deep fried & blackened). The salmon was very well prepared. My husband really enjoyed both types of grouper. This was our first time at Marco Is. FL. We wanted great seafood for cheap. We found where the locals go. The waitress knew people by name. This was one of our best experiences.

This place is popular to be so small! I ordered the Grouper Cake Plate - very tasty, a little too salty for me - I also tasted the salmon plate - wonderful! The fresh steamed veggies are a healthy treat - the service is wonderful and the location is great!

After a three year absence from Naples I returned to Gulfcoast Grouper and Chips for the sublime blackened grouper ceasar salad and chocolate mousse, which is quite possibly the best desert on the planet. Everything was as yummy as ever. Even better, they remembered me and the fact that I am allergic to wheat, so when the fish taco special listed on the board caught my eye I was told it was a no-go because of the tortillas. My two-year-old devoured his grilled cheese and my mom enjoyed her pasta (as usual). My only regret is that we had to leave town before the Friday snapper special at Grouper & Chips. I have loved this place for ten years and I always will.

  • Monica R.

Came to this place after our first place (falafel grill) was closed. I am glad it was closed! The food here was delicious. Very laid-back and casual. I had the blackened fish tacos and my boyfriend had the grouper sandwich and chips. The mahi for the tacos was perfect. Blackened to perfection. It came with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, and beans and rice. The grouper was crispy and flavorful. It tasted good with the added cheese. I am very picky about french fries and I eat these. Nice and crunchy just the way I like it. Perfect place for a casual dinner!

Great daily specials (had the sautéed salmon and the blackened mahi linguini), awesome staff, family friendly. The space is a bit small but the staff did a great job accommodating a large party.

Visiting for vacation with family. We already knew this was a small joint, but just wanted good fish. Food was great and staff very friendly. Felt the prices were a bit high, but would still return on next visit. If your looking for 5th Ave atmosphere, then this is not your place.

If 50% of your restaurant name is "Chips", you better have some phenomenal chips and not just ordinary french fries. I will say the fish does make up the lackluster fries. Grab a Corona to wash it all down, and start your diet tomorrow.

This past Saturday, my partner and I took a day trip over to Naples for a change of scenery...and Grouper & Chips had been recommended by a friend of theirs. The decor was very odd...you'd expect some sort of gulf coast fish shack theme or something. Instead, it's decorated with really cheesey Marilyn Monroe and James Dean memorabilia - something you'd expect in a sad gay cafe back in the early '80's. We all started with hushpuppies as appetizers. They were all oddly identical and tear-shaped. We asked about that and were told they were frozen. Oh, well. Two of us ordered the Caribbean Seafood Soup. The two that ordered that really liked it. I tasted it also, and it was well seasoned and slightly spicey...a good balance of flavors. For the main courses, everyone else ordered some variation of the fried grouper (in pieces, or in a sandwich). Those all came with fries (frozen). The fried grouper was average...nice flavor, not that greasy, but not amazing, and not the best as is advertised. I had the blackend chicken linguini. In addition to the chicken, it had some chunks of veggies, artichoke hearts, and hearts of palm. It was nicely and unapologetically spicey! On the downside, the veggie chunks were too large and the linguini was way to mushy, way past al dente. We all shared the homemade Key Lime Pie. It was just average. Oh, and a couple of other reviewers wrote about the outdoor dining. Sorry, it's not that pleasant. It's in a strip mall with maybe a 5 foot overhang...so if you decide to dine alfresco, be aware you're going to be wedged between the front window and the super hot hood of a parked car.

  • Armin S.

I had the blackened grouper sandwich and my friend has the blackened grouper fish tacos. Awesome flavor with nice size portions. I give it 4 stars because the restaurant is so small, cramped and food comes in a basket :-( Totally recommend for a great meal!

    (4)
  • Len V.

The place was cramped, crowded, limited menu, and servers were overwhelmed. I can't wait to go back. There was a line out the door, but they moved you along so quickly that I was seated in ten minuets. Food was great and servers were funny. After seated we were out the door twenty minuets later but didn't feel rushed. Highly recommend going, it's a great experience.

  • Lori A.

This place has good fish tacos, grouper (blackened or fried) in a basket and Bouillabaisse is pretty good too (for the price of this dish, you could eat on 5th or 3rd) I feel the dinners are expensive, the baskets and casual food is fair. We have ordered to go and have not been disappointed and eaten here three times. It is a cute little restaurant with a few tables on the patio but the downfall is that it is in a strip mall, facing cars. So , if you want to eat inside, cute but very tiny. They only have about 7 tables. The crab cakes are good but not great if you love them. A little sticky but good. I would say if you are hankering to have fish and chips, this is the place! They also have sweet potato waffle fries too, those are yum!

  • Chris N.

Seriously, this place is as good as it gets... Forget about all the higher priced bay front sea food places in naples. Grouper and Chips has the best food in town. Theyre grouper speaks for itself. Shrimp, AMAZING!!!, Ahi AMAZING, clam chowder, AMAZING!!! go here and spend half of what you would anywhere else here in town..

  • Rich W.

This place is a hole in the wall in a strip mall on a major road and seats maybe 20, plus another 10 outside on the "sidewalk". If you are looking for ambience, go elsewhere. If you are looking for all world "lowdown" food, grab a seat. I went there solo and had fish chowder, blackened grouper and chocolate mousse. All homemade, all ridiculously good. I'm originally from Boston and grew up on chowder; this was outstanding. The blackened grouper basket was fantastic -- perfectly seasoned, piping hot and fresh enough for me to check for a pulse. The mousse was also great. I'm 6'4" 200 lbs and hadn't eaten much today, and I walked out stuffed. Because I was solo and the place is so small, I surveyed other dishes, all of which looked great. The table next to mine raved about the fried grouper, and the linguine with fish also looked killer. Staff was delightful. Can't understand some of the snarkier reviews below. Not my experience at all. Couldn't have been more attentive and fun. I've eaten at a bunch of restaurants in Naples, from high end steak houses, to the high end places on Fifth. I would eat here before any of them. Can't wait to go back the next time I'm in town

Delicious food. The crab cake was amazing, as was the sauteed chicken milanaise. The portions were huge, my food was melt-in-your-mouth good, and the waitstaff was great. The others in my party had fish, which they claimed was good, but the boullabaisse stole the show. The place was packed, and it's obvious why. The place is small, but it's well worth it. We may sneak back for lunch before leaving town!

Grouper & Chips is one of my favorite Naples restaurants....the fish is always fresh and delicious Obviously the grouper and chips is a must...perfectly fried Fried zucchini...whatever that dip is, yum! Crab cakes.....blackened crab cakes are scrumptious Overall....YUM!!!

  • Allison W.

Thank you fellow Yelpers for directing us to this little gem. I give it a 5 as compared to other 'fish & chips' places. Yes, it's a hole-in-the-wall, but it's GREAT, the staff is very friendly and the cuisine stacks up against any high-end restaurant. We had the grouper & chips and the Chicken Milanese (based on everyone's comments on this site.) The fish was tender & the batter golden crunchy, just the way I like it. The Chicken Milanese was fantastic, especially given the surprise factor of finding this dish on the menu and finding it to be so well prepared. I'd love to know their trick for achieving such tender chicken.

  • Abby C.

My family and took the advice of fellow yelpers and went to this wonderful place on our first night of vacation in Naples. The food was fantastic! The ambiance is super casual, the service is nice and speedy, and the food is scrumptious! My family tried the crab cake, soup of the day (spicy fish soup), the award-winning grouper sandwich (fried, of course) with chips, and the fish tacos. We would eat it all again in a heartbeat. Our only regret: not trying the desserts. They have one in particular that was key lime pie with chocolate mousse... that combination sounds divine Great for families. Offer take-out. Super casual - go ahead and head their after a day at the beach.

Called in an order to pick up on our way into town, as it was late and we just wanted to unwind after a 10 hour drive from Atlanta. Got fish tacos, and grouper basket. The fish in the tacos was over cooked and over blackened-seasoned. Otherwise interesting. My husband liked it. He ate the fried grouper. He enjoyed that too. The tarter sauce was good. We also ordered the Key lime pie and it tasted like rotten cheese. Not sure if it was old or what. We didn't finish it.

This Ida place, that had I not read yelp reviews, I would never go to. It's in a strip mall and looks like a sub shop. Inside, you'll did pink walls decorated with Elvis and marilyn. Don't go for the atmosphere but the grouper was awesome. Super fresh and delicious. We got it blackened and fried. I liked blackened better, but I honk everything fried tastes he same. I would come ere again in a heart beat (for lunch). Oh, and it's kid- friendly

This place used to be AWESOME. I mean, really delicious, good prices, big portions, great service. No mo, my friends...no mo. All of the old staff is gone, they've raised the prices like, $4 on most items and they're super rude now. Spread the word - head to The Dock if you want some tasty seafood in Naples.
