This is the perfect example of being lost in translation. Why do I say that? Well, because Chef James has really good ideas, but unfortunately the execution is just not there, his ideas get lost during translation onto the plate. I'll start with a good overall dish, the Tequeños. They really were very good, a tad bit small for two people, but the flavor was there, and the aioli was a great touch of flavor. It tasted similar to the cilantro sauce they are typically served with at other locations. We then tried the Cachapa, one of my husbands favorite dishes. Unfortunately for him, it just wasn't all that tasty, especially if you've had it before elsewhere. The chef prepares it as 3 separate sweet corn pancakes layered with the cheese in between, kind of like a savory Napoleon. Now, normally, the pancakes are covered in melted butter which makes them deliciously moist and wonderfully tasty. The problem was that the top pancake was just too dry and just too cold, so the cheese in the top layer wasn't ooey gooey like it should be. We decided to move on to the Guacamole trio. We picked the roasted corn, bacon and the traditional. Now, I love bacon, and my husband even more, hell, who doesn't?! But tonight, I realized that there could be just too much bacon. It really overpowered the flavor of the avocado and lime. I had to stop after just two bites. The corn guacamole was the total opposite, not enough corn flavor. The traditional on the other hand was a well balanced guacamole with good flavor. I especially like that they add a bit more lime to it, to help cut some of the richness of the avocado. Just as I started with a good dish, I'm gonna end with one as well. We ordered the Hidden Treasure dessert, which is a small plantain bread pudding cube with vanilla ice cream on top. I know that it doesn't seem all that different or unique, but that's because I haven't mentioned the best part - a thick dulce de leche foam or whipped cream. It is what makes this dish stand apart. And don't worry, they put plenty of it, so it's enough to share. All in all, I would really look forward to trying this again once the Chef refines his execution.

This time, I try the molcajete mixto, its a Mexican dish with Mexican chorizo, chicken, beef, cheese and green onions with salsa Verde, served in a volcan stone, really good dish

The pork was so tender and bold, and the smokey sweet potatoes were a great compliment. try the pineapple mojito and the croquettes. Simon was a great waiter and he put a smile on all of our faces. very attentive and charming. bomb all around :-)

Man, this is hard because the food and drinks were SO good, but the service and atmosphere just were not :( Sabores is located in a Best Western Premier, and it shows that this is a hotel restaurant. They really didn't make much of an effort to separate the restaurant from the hotel. That's all well and good, though, if the food and service are on point. The bacon guacamole we started with served with homemade warm tortilla chips was delicious. I dined on the short ribs, as recommend by fellow Yelpers, and it was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Perfect blend of spices and mouthwateringly tender. The mojito I enjoyed was refreshing and made with fresh ingredients. The service, though - not good. Our waiter disappeared for long periods of time, and when he was in our sight, would not make eye contact with us. I finally at one point had to get up and go get him, as he stood in the dining room chatting with another employee. We would have certainly ordered more drinks and dessert if he had been a normal amount of attentive. He was super-friendly when he was around, and very apologetic after I had to retrieve him, but at that point I was over it. Bottom line, if you are staying at this hotel or close to the airport, Sabores is worth a trip. If you are across town on South Beach, taking a 15 minute cab to enjoy really awesome food in a not so awesome place is not worth it.

Unexpected for a Best Western! We had the ceviche sampler. Generous servings of fish and a good light beginning. Short rib and malanga pure were shared as an entree. More than enough for two! The short rib was tender, but could use a little more salt. The sauce was great, but would have been better if poured over the short ribs instead of the malanga, for a juicier bite. Still, it was tasty and the pure is comfort food all the way. We ended with the mango cream cake. Just the right amount of sweetness with the mango and guava sauce. It's not overbearing. Basically, a very grown up and delicate ice cream cake. The service was awesome! Our server, Simon was warm, friendly and gave great recommendations.

Hotel restaurants... In my experience... Over-priced, not so elaborate (sometimes over elaborated) menus. Specially if the hotel is a 3 stars airport one... This is not the case! With Venezuelan roots, the Chef has manage to bring a simple, yet elaborated menu, with very delicious items for you to choose from, and even a sample menu for you to try different dishes. If you're in the area, don't hesitate to stop and try it, because you wont regret it.

Pear with blue cheese and cashew salad This was such a good salad that I didn't miss cheeseburgers, fried food, or anything that I'd have to visit the gym for. It was mainly the salad dressing and the pear that made it taste so good. Normally, ordering salad at a restaurant is buzzkill because salads typically are bland. Not the case here, really good. Service was just as lovely but the language barrier made it difficult to communicate. Regardless, I'm coming back when I'm in the area again. Tip: Sabores is inside the best western and has free parking outside.

If you're expecting a restaurant owned by a real celebrity that consists of the following: * It's located in a trendy part of town. * Attitude. * Traditional flavors and Culinary Techniques. This restaurant is not for you. Now, if you're in the mood for an unexpected dining experience, then, read on. This restaurant is owned by renowned Chef, Chef James Tehhan. To be honest with you, I had no idea who he is. The only reason I knew about him was because I avidly watch Spanish TV programming in the morning. I have already seen him on both Hispanic TV Networks. Especially on Despierta América, he's their favorite go-to Chef for cooking segments. I came here specifically to try their pork and, I did. Their pork has "Cuban-style" in the name. To me, that was a non-official challenge to go taste it. So, to taste I went. It is so different to what I'm accustomed to, that, it took more than one bite to get accustomed to it. Obviously, it wasn't bad, since I kept eating it. Nope folks, if you're expecting a "Cuban-style" marinated pork belly, sorry, that ain't what you gonna get here. What you will get, however, is this deliciously marinated pork belly placed atop lima beans and sweet potato puree. I know, right? Where are the Moros and Platanos Maduros? I mean, the flavors in this dish are INSANE. Then, I had a taste of my friend's boneless short ribs atop malanga puree. In my opinion, the short ribs were better than what I was having and the malanga it was laid upon was DELICIOUS! I will come back for this dish. Normally, when I write a Yelp, I will list everything I had to eat. In this case, however, I am not in an effort to keep this restaurant as unexpected as possible. Like, for example, their "ice cream-like" dessert that looks like a potted plant that doesn't even contain any dairy. ...and, was that "Watermelon Ceviche" I just read as I was ordering the delicious Ceviche Ecuatoriano while sipping on a Blueberry Mojito? But, I've already said too much. What was that? Did someone say "dátiles wrapped in bacon?" Ok...that's it.

"Where everybody knows your name..." :) Yes. I am "Norm" every time I come here. And I love it! I hadn't tried their Saturday taco brunch--until today! So, Mom in tow, here we are. As usual the warm greeting from the staff, In particular from Wahbi (Chef James' brother and part of the management team), and then we were promptly seated. The brunch itself is very simple--and very yummy! There is a small salad bar with items such as the chopped tomatoes, pico de gallo, cotija (Mexican white cheese crumbles), shredded cheese, greens, olives, onions, guacamole, SEVERAL hot sauces, and different types of chips to go with the sour cream and guac. The tacos are brought out from the kitchen,, where the choices are beef, chicken, and pork (Al pastor). We decided on one of each, and they were absolutely delicious. You don't even need toppings for them! Meats are all well seasoned, the soft corn tortillas are fresh, and honestly, I could just eat them with a little lime juice. That's how good they are!! Margaritas are all you can drink, and tacos are all you can eat...for $18 per person. I think it's a great deal really! We had friends in the area who dropped in about 30 minutes before brunch was ending, and the service and quality of their drinks and tacos was just as good if not better. One of our friends is of Mexican heritage, and he was VERY pleased at the quality of the food, drinks and service given! Folks. You've already seen this is probably my 6th review for this place. That should tell you something. Come visit. You won't be disappointed!

My friend offered to take me for brunch as a holiday gift. She had heard about this new place opened by a celebrity Chef James. I was intrigued about said Chef James... But more so because of the promise of unlimited mimosas. So off we went and asked for the address. That's when I heard that it was located at a Best Western. I asked her - are you sure?! She assured me it was. We arrived at the BW and found Sabores. It's located near the lobby area, and it's a bit tight on space. Ok A LOT tight on space. Seating is not too comfortable. Hence one of the reasons for the 4 stars. It has nice modem decor and clean with a small bar located in the corner. Not what you'd expect at a Best Western dining area. So now on to the food and service.... Brunch was very good. It's buffet style. Had some of the traditional Venezuelan foods like arepas. It also had Spanish omelet, fabulous exquisite ceviche, salmon and cheese selections and a do-it-yourself waffles and a few other items. Not much more than that. Very limited in the bread selection. However, on the bright side, there was unlimited mimosas - OJ with champagne. Mmmmm. This describes the $27 menu option. There are other options with menu options to add to your brunch. As an added bonus Chef James and his brother were hanging out in the dining area schmoozing with the diners. Yelpers, if you don't know who he is, Chef James is a local chef hottie who appears on Telemundo. Not only is he very handsome, but quite the talented chef, too. The taste of the food is delicious! And he's very personable talking with us about his cooking philosophy. And a fellow Yelper. For the gran finale, we tried the dessert that looks like a potted plant. Look at the pics. It is heavenly so leave room for it. Has avocado based chocolate, layered with light tasting vanilla ice cream and topped with almond chocolate shavings that looks like the "dirt." The plant is a large sprig of mint. It is a large enough serving for 2 or more people. Simply delish! Folks if you're going to experience brunch, stay hungry

What an interesting restaurant in a most unexpected place: a Best Western hotel. I was treated to my meal here last night -- but I assure you this is a five-star meal regardless. How lucky I am to have been able to try so many options I would have otherwise not likely taste tested! Starting with one of the best parts aside from the food: free parking and plenty of it (I was beginning to think this was a myth in Miami). This isn't your average Best Western hotel -- or hotel restaurant for that matter! I highly recommend the ceviche sampler -- the ecuartoriano was unlike anything I've had before (shrimp in a tomato sauce). The menu says the croquetas are among the most popular items -- and one bite in, you'll understand why! These fried balls of cheesy goodness are in a league of their own. My favorite part of the main meal (because dessert deserves its own praise) was the braised short ribs with malanga puree. Wow. This combination will have me coming back -- as soon as I am not full from last night's meal. Now the dessert was not only delicious... it was creative. That goes a long way in my book! It came in a flower pot -- with a mint plant growing out of a chocolate heaven! A vegan chocolate mousse (made from avocado -- who knew?!?), with vanilla ice cream on top and covered by "dirt" -- or cocoa goodness. I had to work so I could not indulge in the cocktails, but a little try of my fellow diners' had be considering calling in sick! Just as most fellow Yelpers have said, the service really puts this place on the top of my list of places to return to -- and soon. The staff is eager to please, excited about the product, and a great knowledge of the menu.

Really delicious food, the service was slow which is the only reason I give it 3 and not 4 stars. We had the queso fundido with chorizo, fried calamari, queso fresco and poblano burger, famous Mexican burger, churrasco (the rice was bland). Came in on Thursday, which was Karaoke Night, it was fun just know if you're looking for a quiet dinner, Thursday night is not for you. Great ambiance though. Also, I know it's Miami but the staff should ask before immediately addressing someone fully in Spanish. My friend does not speak Spanish and despite his speaking English to the staff they kept insisting on addressing him in Spanish.

Great dinner with the family. Order the short ribs and I devoured it. My baby even asked for more! The French fries were delicious and so was the dessert. Will come back to try the Pork Confit.

Great place, divey and with a great selection of cocktails very creative but one thing i have to bring up was the food. Totally unexpected, starting with some very creative guacamoles and ceviches. From the hot kitchen you have to try the croquetas, melty and crispy, the arepas are great also. For the main course, you have to have to have to try the short ribs, good service over all and affordable!

My whole family got together finally to go on sunday brunch and heard about this place from friends so went to try it out. Everybody was talking about the amazing brunch the restaurant offered so we did not even hesitate on going, result: TOTAL FAILURE! We literally left after ordering drinks and looking at the buffet! It was a horrible experience, the food was nothing better than an american breakfast included at a Howard Jhonson. Although the service was great, even the table was really uncomfortable and at the end this place is just another hotel little restaurant that has no charm at all. I certainly do not recommend this place having so many amazing offers in the Miami area for sunday brunch.

Excellent food and service. Had the Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas and was so excited to taste authentic Guatemalan, Cuban, and Nicaraguan foods along with traditional brunch items. Great variety and very friendly servers.

Went there for the first time on 05/05/15 for my mother's Bday celebration and all I could say is that the service and food were amazing! Our server went above and beyond to make us feel very welcomed. We were a party of 13 and the food came out very quickly. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet the Chef but he did check in by phoning one of the managers and my mother received a personal birthday wish as she spoke to him. Overall the place restaurant, service and food received 5 star review from me.

I was really excited to go to this place, heard so much about it. To start we had the croquettes and we had the guac sampler. The croquettes were amazing and the guava sauce on top was great. The guac with chicarron and corn was great. Not too big on the pineapple. My meal was great wish it would have been three plantains. Now the desert we had the dulce the leche crape and it literally changed my life. I wanted more!!! The guava cheesecake was awesome as well.

Omg I loved this restaurant and the service. Honestly if this place was near the beach or outside areas it would be one of the best restaurants in Miami. I personally love everything with avocado and their guacamoles were just so fresh and 'homie'. The chips were fresh, I had the steak fajitas and the portion was perfect, savory and delicious meet, nice sautéed vegetables. I really recommend the tequeños too! Oh and if first impressions matter to you - all the food is presented gorgeously! Really loved that the owners are always around to ensure quality and amazing service! Totally recommend and can't wait to go again!

This restaurant is located in the hotel I'm staying in for 2 weeks... Lucky for me. I've tried so much of their menu and can only say that this chef is an artist able to combine amazing creations with various flavors. Tonight I'm having the salmon over black beans after tasting his pumpkin soup. Both are experiences I will always remember. If I am back in the area, returning to this restaurant will be a must for me. I just had the crepes for dessert... WOW!

The food is AWESOME- delicious and an experience. Engage in what you're eating and with the Chef if he's there. I had an unreal smoked gin and tonic even though I was flirting with the Mezcal drink. The tourists at the bar were taking pictures of the Chef as he burnt the Rosemary for the drink. My friend had the cucumber fizz and it was too strong for her. She also had the tequños, much like mozzarella sticks in spring roll wrappers, not my style but she raved about them. I had the pulpo empanadas. The pulpo was cooked perfectly- not chewy at all. I highly recommend, and the condiments that came with were nice. We were spoiled with a specialty dessert called the hidden treasure- guava whipped topping covered a piece of dense, moist banana bread topped with a tiny scoop of vanilla and mint leaves. The ingredient mix seems random, but it went together seamlessly. I'm not a dessert person, but I couldn't stop. And an aperitif served in an Italian coffee maker - cold coffee and liquor with just the perfect amount of sweetness. Fresh beans floated on top. I'm telling everyone to go here. I'd remove a star since its in a best western (decor and all) but if you're going there, that's apparent... And on Thursdays they have karaoke and really great music to compensate for the hotel restaurant vibe. Just go. Maybe not for a first date... But as a go-to. Recommend.

Well, after the chef personally extending his hand out to me to come back I couldn't deny his humble request and returned. Tonight we were promptly greeted upon our arrival and were tended to perfectly and professionally by the chefs brother, who is the manager. The service was just as attentive and courteous as the first time and was no different now. We ordered our drinks (sangria and mojito) and both were delivered promptly and expertly crafted. We started off with the Mexican ceviche and vegetable soup both of which were delicious and as I was sharing with my wife she ended up finishing the ceviche and I ended up finishing her soup and both agree, both were great. My wife ordered the salmon and I split the churassco with Jr. My wife loved the salmon she mentioned how fresh it was but didn't offer a bite so I'm assuming it was real good. My churassco was made to order and quite delectable. We ended up with his signature desert flower pot and a rolled up crepe. Both were good. I've got to tip my hat off to the chef for reaching out. Truly a gentleman and businessman. Good luck chef, we will be back.

I've been using yelp for years and this is the first time that I've decided to actually join and leave a review. I will make my review very short and concise: amazing food and EXCELLENT service. Customer service that goes above and beyond your expectations. We had the opportunity to share our experience with Chef James; he took the time to stop by our table a couple of times to explain the plates and checked on us. He also took the time to share a couple of other plates (that were not on the menu) to provide us with an unforgettable experience. This is a MUST do from now on.

Two stars for the tacos and quesadilla, both were fine. At the oddly placed buffet table was a wooden bowl of salad greens, filled with fruit flies. Not one flying around, but when I picked up the greens with a tong dozens flew out and more stayed in, this set the tone for brunch. The unlimited margarita...the first was fine, order more than one and you're getting a glass full of sweet and sour, I left the second drink full, it was disgusting and I was a bit shocked they'd serve a drink that way, don't offer unlimited if you don't want people drinking your booze. The service was nice, but can't make up for the bugs and bad drinks. I had high hopes for the place but it was a big disappointment, and not worth the $18 per person.

This place is amazing! We are foodies and were truly impressed by the quality and taste of their dishes...not to mention the service! Carlos was our waiter and was very helpful when recommending dishes. The guacamole and ceviche samplers were awesome, as were the croquetas and caprese. We particularly loved the guac with bacon and the smoked fish one. The pork belly was delicious and the malanga puree that came with the short ribs was ridiculous! The truth is everything was delicious! Oh and save room for the hidden treasure (dessert) and an amazing after dinner drink that's coffee based! Enjoy!!!

Really Disappointing I was intrigued by this restaurant since it came out under hot and new and pictures of restaurant and food looked amazing. but was a really bad experience food was really bad we order the brunch and pepitos and The bread was COLD AND REALLY HARD TO BITE and the brunch was just nothing out of the world never back again for sure.

Didn't realize it was in a hotel when I first was looking this place up. A few big problems but also some good things. 1) our waitress made the mojitos and clearly has never made one in her life. First time she used salt instead of sugar and 2nd time she used coconut rum. 2) the chicharrones feta huacamole is delicious 3) the carne asada tacos fell apart before you could eat them. All in all some delicious things but for the price , definitely not.

Got dinner here on Father's Day while staying at the hotel. The other reviews led me astray and I was expecting something good. Service was weird, we rotated between 3 or 4 different members of the waitstaff, some of whom were far more competent than others. Food was mediocre, 1 out of 2 steaks had to be sent back to be cooked more (medium rare came out seared), and everything was fairly bland. It wasn't bad food, but it could have been much better. Out of two desserts, chocolate mousse with vanilla ice cream was good, guava creme brûlée was a new flavor, and far too sweet. I suppose it is worth mentioning we had a set menu for Father's Day. Overall I don't recommend this place.

I came to this place from a review a read here about their mimosas specials . Me and my friends are always looking for a new place to go drink and party without kids around ( young adults ). We were very lucky.Today was the chefs birthday and another owner, they had mariachi and my best , they brought in a mixologist from Europe. This guy made the best cuban drink with alcohol I have ever drunk in my life . They told me they will keep that drink as a menu item in their bar .Best place for good price drinks and privacy .

A friend took me to this restaurant and I wasn't really happy about the idea of going to a restaurant inside a best Western put me in a hotel in this case I was totally surprised the food was exceptional really good and very creative the menu had a lot of interesting options from Couric to beef to salmon and then great appetizers awesome for Tapas. If you go you have to try the different varieties of guacamoles that they serve you have to try the fish dip that comes smoky to the table and for the main courses the short ribs and the pork on feet are a must if you are a burger person you have to try the roasted Forlano burger it is amazing totally unexpected. I had the chance to meet Chef James he was great and he made some great recommendations when it came to cocktails we had the smoky gin and tonic and it was superb we also tried the blueberry and coconut Mojito oh and it was super refreshing and tropical a must if you are in the area check it out. And by the way service is also really good very personalized and the manager was really friendly.

I have been to this restaurant three times one time I went for the tacos and margaritas brunch on Saturdays which for $18 to me was amazing then I went for Sunday brunch and I was really impressed a lot of variety and great execution on food another day I went to try their signature dishes on a Saturday night and honestly I was impressed I never expected such great food at a hotel like this I started with the fish dip and they serve it in a glass bowl that they OpenTable side and then smoke comes out of the bowl it was an amazing experience as a starter then I tried the short ribs that are cook for four hours and they were melt in your mouth good the purée in the bottom would go cheese and Hanst the dish to a whole different dimention.for these nerd I tried the crap that they flambé tableside and then they serve with ice cream very visual but at the same time very delicious a must if you are in the area and if you're trying to experience new Latin American contemporary food. Service was as good.

Loved my gran mariner crepe, specially made by my favorite Chef! This was just the perfect ending to the night. Smoked fish dip, guacamole bar, plus a coffee cocktail served in authentic stove top espresso makers. Chef James Tahann is creative and adds a twist to all of his dishes. I recommend this restaurant 100%. I will be coming here next week for happy hour!

Very disappointed with their Brunch. It was extremely pricey for the type of food you get. Food wasn't that much different from an actual hotel breakfast buffet. Mimosas and bloody just ok. Service was excellent though.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize.
