Casual spot for a great brunch, it was packed when I went this past Saturday! The wait wasn't too bad, about 15 minutes. However, we were open to outdoor seating which dramatically reduced the wait. When we were finally seated I mentally prepared myself for a longer wait for food/service since a number of yelpers reported long wait times. Fortunately, this wasn't the case and I felt well accomodated during my visit! The portions are very big and taste great. I had ordered egg in a basket, which is a fried egg wedged under 2 slices of French toast. I was really pleased and would definitely recommend. Just be prepared for a wait on weekends!

Kris's has split personality...the food was absolutely amazing, but the restaurant and staff did not match the excellence of the food. I'd give the food five stars!! We tried the Crab Cakes Benedict (which had the most buttery, velvety, beautiful hollandaise sauce with just a touch of lemon) and delicious cheesy grits. You can order the crab cakes 50/50 - meaning half real crab, half imitation crab meat OR 100% real crab for $5.00 more. The 50/50 crab cake was soooo yummy, I would have never known the difference if the waitress hadn't told me. We also tried the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and potatoes with onions. The corned beef hash was a tad salty, but perfectly crispy on the outside and hot, chunky and delicious on the inside. The problem with the restaurant and staff was that they both just seemed tired, worn and dated. The restaurant felt dirty and gross. For example, the table was sticky (and still had trash on it), and we saw a refrigerator behind the bar held shut with masking tape. The staff rarely smiled and didn't give a very welcoming vibe. This is such a shame. I feel like Kris's could really be something special. Unless the place is cleaned up, refreshed and rejuvenated, I'll be taking my business a few miles north to Roasters and Toasters.

Holey moley this is the perfect place for those of you who are big foodies! And by that, I mean BIG APPETITES! The portions are incredibly huge but so worth the leftovers! My lurve, Rick, brought me here for brunch cause it was "the best breakfast food in town", and their French toast inevitably qualified! Their menu had so many choices and our server, Alec, was helpful in answering all my tedious questions to help me choose a dish. He lived the menu. I started with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, mmm. Then had the full order of French toast which came with four fat, thick slices with powder sugar sprinkled on and fresh strawberries to top them off. These slices were fluffy, I wanted to scarf down the whole plate despite being full by my second slice. Alec told us Kris was known for their grits, so we ordered a side of grits. Super creamy, just how I like it! Rick ordered a side of bacon and a Mexican burrito. The bacon was cooked to the perfection, crispy crispy! As filling as the burrito was, it didn't feel like a heart attack haha.

Cucumbers From Hell on your Plate. What Goes on in the Kitchen?? - Envision my angst when I viewed an array of yukkky cucumbers like the one in the pic on my plate at Kris's Restaurant. The color was so off that it was apparent something was way wrong. The server explained the cucumbers had been frozen and implied they were safe to eat. Who would want to eat cucumbers like that anyway? The mystery here is why anyone in the kitchen would dare serve such an item. Did they think the customer would not know the difference? Maybe so ! Kris's Restaurant is not a gourmet Indian restaurant. Kris's is a restaurant owned by an Indian, apparently native to India, who may be the chef. Perhaps the standards used in India may apply here. To get the idea why I am so turned off you may Google " Open Defecation" That is what came to my mind. There is a lot of trust when a customer eats at a restaurant, especially a locally owned restaurant. Some of the food may be yummy, but I won't be tasting it.

Outside appearance looks outdated but I didn't even care! The brunch served at Kris's is one to try. If you are in the hunt for a new brunch spot get yourself over here. They also have great lunch options. I usually get the French Toast or the California Eggs Bendict (no meat, it's replaced with avocado). I've tried their pancakes as well, you will be surprised when they arrived. They are HUGE. You may even end up taking some of that home. And the house potatoes that come with some of the breakfast dishes are always tasty. The portions are great in size, very satisfying. Service is prompt most of the time, the rest of the time it can be slow. Kris's does have quite a wait on weekends, like any other breakfast restaurant. But once you are seated you are treated by their friendly staff. A gem in the Cutler Bay area.

UPDATED- went back to give it a second try, and was very satisfied!! Absolutely no wait and the food was delicious. Key is, don't go on a Sunday. I had the egg fajita with chives and my father had the French toast. The portions are very big and could easily be shared. I will definitely go back!

I absolutely love this place. Hadn't reviewed it because I wanted to make sure I'd be consistently happy. I've been three times already on a Sunday for brunch and each time has been exceptional. The wait times are long on Sunday's because I think everyone letting out of church goes straight to Kris's for brunch. It is well worth the wait though. The food is amazing. Everything we have ordered has been fresh delicious and extraordinary. From the burgers to the breakfast whatever you choose you won't be disappointed. My favorite plate to start with are the potato latkes with a side of applesauce and sour cream! It brings me right back to my grandmas kitchen. The omelettes are huge and tasty. The kids love the French toast. Beware portions are huge. We almost always end up taking food home. The service has been consistently good and has a regular feel to it. It seems that staff gets to know the patrons. Despite the long wait and the borderline pricey meals, I still love to come for Sunday brunch. I gave 4 vs 5 stars only because of the wait times. We are always so hungry when we've gone and would love to not have to wait so long to eat!

Portions are huge! Come hungry! Everything was delicious and while the servers were busy, everyone was smiling. We will be back

Went to Kris for the first time The food was incredible and the Service. We will be back. I will recommended to any one who wants to have a great breakfast or Lunch. Our waiter Ashley was great. So if you visit Kris please ask for Ashley She's great. Great all around.

Breakfast, outdoors, that doesn't make you feel like a pop-tart in the Miami toaster. Between the early hour, the trees, canopy shade and breeze, it is comfortable. The breakfast is good, this owner used to be part of Krissals (hence the Kris spelled funny) and remember how good that place was? Really like their house potatoes, but not a fan of their shrimp and grits (little too oily.)

  • Sarah W.

Best brunch down south! I usually sit at the counter because the wait can be a little long and the staff is always so friendly to talk to. First let me start by saying the portions here are huge and their cheesy grits are to die for, ive been here a couple times and have tried a lot of the stuff on the menu and almost always come home with a to go box. Try one of their amazing mimosas (fresh squeezed orange juice!) my only complaint is that the food takes FOREVER! ... which i usually forget once i taste how good my food is!

  • Heather F.

The place has become filthy and unkempt. When I emailed the management about the flies on the windowsill and the dust on the blinds, they simply replied stating that they clean them every Monday, telling me I was wrong. I am just surprised at how poorly they are maintaining that restaurant and also by how low their customer service is.

  • J R.

First Kris restaurant is adequately staffed everyone is busy but attentive, I ordered shrimp and grits the shrimp was fresh gently seasoned with herbs and spice the grits where like a smooth polenta like an Italian grandma would prepare. Large portions are the norm so order conservatively.

After much debate and review reading, my husband and I decided to try this place for Sunday breakfast. And I'm glad we did!! The restaurant is located right off of Dixie highway, making it easy to find. If you get there early, parking isn't a problem but this place fills up fast after 930am and for good reason. The outside can appear a little dated, but the food makes up for it. The seating outside is big and covered. Inside, it's a little cramped when its busy. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs and home fries. Delicious!! Everything had great flavor. He got the chicken and waffles. The waffle was perfectly cooked and the chicken oh so crispy. The service was great too. We were seated within 15 minutes (there was a bit of a wait). Our waiter Jessica was efficient and attentive. Our drinks were never left empty and the food came out quick. The prices were good for such big portions. We both couldn't finish our plates and left with a bill of under $40 (including our drinks and tip). We will definitely be coming back again!!

We are regulars for the brunch. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, variety of offerings, friendly staff. What more could you ask for? Only tip, don't go if you're in a rush... could be slow.

Went for Brunch here today with my parents and have heard a little about how good this place was especially by my mother. So was setting my hopes up pretty high to begin with. I ended up ordering off of the daily specials menu and got the Cajun Dolphin Sandwich. The dolphin was okay could have been much better, barely taste any Cajun at all. My mother ordered Salmon Caprese which was also on the Daily Specials menu and I tried some and it was just very bland. No seasoning kind of get like they relied on the caprese part to hold it up, but for me it didn't work. My father ordered Salsberry steak. Unfortunately I didn't not try but look good with an abundance of onions and mushrooms. Overall the lunch was okay, the service was excellent. Very friendly and welcoming staff, waiter was funny and attentive. The food was plated very presentable. I will definitely go back to try breakfast, which Is what I originally wanted but ended up going for lunch. Breakfast looks delicious, but like I learned today you can't judge a book by its cover.

My favorite place to eat breakfast. I literally can't eat breakfast anywhere else now, so that's a con I guess. The best country fried steak, corned beef hash, and French toast in the world. Huge delicious pancakes, even better with chocolate chips, don't judge me. Patty melt from lunch menu is awesome, like an upscale cheesesteak. Key lime pie is perfect, homemade, and authentic.

This place is amazing. I make a point to eat here whenever I visit. It has a great atmosphere, there's a great variety of food and nothing is expensive. Portions are good, and the waiters and waitresses are friendly and make conversation. (Our favorite is Carter) They also have great specials.

People next to us sat down after us, got their food before us, still sent stuff back, Sat down at 1145...got food at 1242. Sent back the cold waffles(wow). Received food little by little (Didn't have complete plates served). Asked for another serving of coffee that I never received. IT WASN"T LIKE THIS BEFORE! UGH!!! The ONLY reason I gave it any stars was because the eggs benedict were spot-on!

Recommended by a friend. Shrimp and grits were flavorful. I had a taste for pancakes and the banana blueberry pancakes hit the spot. Portions were large. I would come back again.

Terrible customer service , my omelette had a hair in it . They forgot to bring out my French toast. I feel like you can play "name the drug that person is on" with the staff . I would never go back there again

I love it! It's my first time here and it has become my favorite breakfast place in Miami! Luckily it's close to home. Tasty food, large portions, top notch service and reasonable prices. What more can you ask for? Only problem is that their coffee is on the weak side. Icing on the cake: there is an outdoors eating area - ideal this time of year in Miami.

Really great size portions for a reasonable price. It wasn't terribly busy when we went with our party of eight, so we got our meals quickly. My hubby had an Omelette and he said it was one of the fullest omelets he's had. Great food! I recommend it for breakfast for sure.

Kris's... First, I have nothing but love and respect for the owner and staff. We have become very well acquainted over the years. There was a period where they had my order prepared before I called to order; needles to say I ate here a lot! LOL The food is truly one of a kind. The owner/Chef makes unique dishes, using only the best ingredients. There is a special menu that changes daily and you can pretty much close your eyes and pick a winner. My all time favorite would definitely be the Beef Stew with rice... OMG! It is marinated for a full day before its cooked, so it's only available once a week if you're lucky. The beef is soft and full of flavor, the vegetables and other ingredients come together to make magic! Basically there will be a review like this for every dish that comes out of this place. The downside and the reason for my 3 star review.. the service, or lack thereof. It breaks my heart to say it, but they have fallen off, way off. Breakfast here used to be my favorite. But you will basically wait until you are past the point of hunger and frustration to get your food! In addition their AC seems to be working at half strength, so be ready to sweat. Several times, recently, I have gone into eat with my family and experienced disaster. Long waits, wrong food, running out of items, etc. It got to the point that the waiter who served us said, "I don't know why it always happens to you guys". In addition, the price has gone up and at one point they were adding gratuity to your check for breakfast. SMH. I am not sure if there will be a rebound, but I'm rooting for them. I would definitely recommend trying the food on a SLOW day.

They had one of the best BLT's I have ever eaten! The service was wonderful! I wish I lived closer I would be eating here all the time.

We had breakfast which was pretty bland. The service was very very poor I hate to give it to but it really should be a 2 1/2 due to the experience that we had. And the quality of the food. Maybe we just got them on a bad day I don't know.

Our first time here. The wait is a little long but was worth it! Please try the EGGS BENEDICT CRAB CAKES. Carter was our waiter, this is what I call good service. Totally recommend this place!!

I ordered a chicken salad croissant. Was up-charged $1.00 for cranberries, $1.00 for the croissant, and $1.99 for substituting onion rings for fries. A very small scoop of chicken salad and a mutilated top layer to the croissant made for an extremely disappointing sandwich. Paying $1.00 extra for a croissant is inexcusable when you order a "croissant sandwich" and then to have a huge portion of the top layer torn off of said croissant is an insult. I was never told that I would be charged extra for the bread or the cranberries. I agreed to the $1.99 for the onion rings (4 onion rings). The chicken salad was tasty, but the scoop was too small. The onion rings were crispy and large, but half of them were taken away by the server while I was distracted speaking with the other people in my party. She later said that I never told her I wanted them to go. In all fairness, she offered to have 2 onions rings made fresh if I would wait. Overall, I felt like I paid way too much ($11.99) for a small croissant and scoop of chicken salad with 4 onion rings.

First time visitor so I approach this review with caution, but all that means is that it can either go down a star or up one. That's unless they completely shit the bed from here on out, but I've been known to forgive a poor service from time to time. This places portions are insane, I ate at 9:30am, it is now 2:13pm. I am not even considering food at this point. My omelette was easily like 6 eggs, my hash browns were like 3 full potatoes. In one meal I was cursing this places name and praising it at the same time. So far so good, I look forward to seeing what else they have to offer.

Well we wanted to try a new place for breakfast and this place was delicious...it didnt start off good cause the first waitres that took our drink orders did not say hello or good morning she just asked what we wanted to drink which i thought was odd..i did see her greeting a table next to us with a big smile a good morning and happy fourth of july...we had two other waiters who were ver friendly they both said hello good morning and how we were doing...so they took our order and the food was amazing...my husband had the mexican wrap and he loved it...i had the eggs benedict with the crabcakes and it was awesome...we will definitely go back there again....as for that waitress i hope she tries to be a little friendlier to other customers....

A new favorite spot for breakfast. Sat outside which was so nice and breezy (the ocean isn't too far), you kinda forget you're a stone's throw from US1. Their outside area is surrounded by a lovely canopy of foliage, very South Miami-ish. The inside is also very nice, but why not enjoy dining al fresco while the weather still allows for nice hair. I digress... The food was fabulous. My husband had the corned beef hash omelet -he loved it. I tasted it and must say it was pretty damn good. I had the crab cake Benedict - the crab cakes were tasty and full of crabmeat, the hollandaise was tart and creamy, and my eggs were perfectly cooked. Foodie baby girl had the kid's pancake which was massive and seriously good. It was fluffy, the batter was perfect, flavor was perfect, that thing was the bee's knees. We also ordered a stack of pancakes bc eating 1/2 of the poor girl's pancake just wasn't enough. We are pigs. Service was excellent, staff was attentive and food arrived promptly. Looking forward to another fantastic meal very soon.

I have been here a few more times since my first time back in 2012. I love that it's close to home and the food is pretty damn good too. My favorite has to be their breakfast. They serve a lot and it's absolutely delicious. The Eggs Benedict with Spinach for those vegetarians or non vegetarians - it's delicious. I have also had the California Eggs Benedict which is great for all you low carb eaters. It's an avocado with the poached egg and sauce on top. I wasn't sure if I would like it because I don't like my avocado hot, but it's actually pretty good. I definitely would eat this dish again. They have great breakfast specials - including 2 eggs with one side or 2 eggs with one side and a meat. It's delicious, everything is fresh - an all American Breakfast. The grits are phenomenal, they perfectly creamy, and if you don't want plain grits, just order the cheese grits. For lunch I have had the Tuna Melt which is absolutely delish, I love it with provolone cheese, but you can pick whatever cheese you want. My husband likes the Lamb burger, this is really juicy and delightful if you like lamb. My mother in law has had the chicken salad and chicken sandwich and she says she loves it. The chicken is moist and fresh and the portions are great. Kris's just recently stop serving dinner, I am not sure why, as we went a few times and it seemed pretty busy and the food has always been good. Although sad that they are closed for dinner, I am still glad they are close and still open for breakfast and lunch. I have seen a few reviews about the service being really bad and I am sad to hear that, every time we have gone it's been great and we haven't had any problems. I hope that whoever has had a bad experience here would try it again. If it's still bad, then I won't argue with you ;) But it's definitely worth trying.

Mother's Day Mess! Had call ahead seating 6 days in advance, no help!! Still waited in the sun for 90 min only to be seated in the outdoor area with our party split up in two different tables. We were so hot we had to walk next door to Walgreens to get sodas and nuts while waiting. Waited ANOTHER 90 min for our food to be brought, chicken salad and cold eggs, disappointing. Giving 1 lone star only for wonderful waitress. We were offered 20% discount by manager that's not our objective, only wanted to have a good meal for our special day, a true miss!

When I pulled up and realized parking was full on a Sunday morning, I got a little worries that this might take a while. But I lucked out and snagged a spot right as someone was leaving. Phew! So we met our friends who had been waiting a few minutes for a table. We had a large party of 6 so it took about a 1/2 hour to sit down. Sat outside since the weather was pleasant in the Fall. We ordered a round of mimosas which was amazing! For brunch, I had the French Toasts and it was GIGANTIC! I looked around at everyone else's dishes and then I realized that Kris's restaurant doesn't skivy on the portions! We all could not finish our dishes, it was that much food! But not one complaint! More food the better! And everyone was satisfied with their meal! Great experience at Kris's! Would definitely come back! Once we did order, the food did take a while to come out, but I figured since it was Sunday brunch, they were pretty busy. Other than that, everything was great!

The servings are huge and prices are on the low side. Owner does the cooking so you know it's done right. Could be a small wait on the weekends but it's definitely worth it. Also, have outdoor seating that is very quaint.

Went to Kris's at the recommendation of a friend I saw last night and who spoke very highly of it. Arrived around 1:30pm and restaurant was packed both inside and the outside terrace. The restaurant opens from 6 am to 4 pm and currently only serves breakfast and lunch. They also serve beer and wine. The menu is quite varied. My companion decided for breakfast and had a egg sandwich on a bagel with a side of fruit whereas I decided to have some lunch and settled for the turkey Rachel with a side of mashed potatoes. We also shared a half order of the French toast. The food was brought pretty quickly. Both sandwiches were humongous as was the 2 pieces of French toast. The turkey Rachel had actual turkey breast (not the deli style) and was very fresh. The egg sandwich was served open face on the bagel and brought 3 eggs. We were very pleased with our meal and look forward to coming back.

Packed on Friday night, glad we had reservations. We had large party of 8 and service was pretty good, ask for James (he was great) as I see other tables waiting for drinks, etc. No complaints about food among our crew. Prime rib, yellow tail sautéed all OK, nothing special but no complaints.

Again, the food is great! It's the service! Kris really need to redo his staff. I don't want a server to serve me and don't know about the menu or has dirty nails or clothing! It just turns my appetite completely off! You're just better off ordering to go. This place can get 5 stars if the service and staff were better and presentable. Like clean nails and no boogers dangling from their nose!

Very good food and service. Menu is vast with a number of great selections. Homemade yumminess. I enjoyed my Philly cheese steak. Husband enjoyed his own face prime rib. Dad had a matzo ball soup (which was huge) and a turkey dinner. Mom had a French dip but preferred my Philly instead. Would definitely return if in the area.

I have been to Kris's three times, and I really wanted to like it because it is very close to home, but it has failed to satisfy in some way every time. The first time I went (circa 2012) I ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer, a Lamb burger, and my girlfriend ordered what was then listed on the menu as the "Buffalo Salad" (it seemed like what is commonly known as a "Caprese salad"). The bruschetta did not disappoint and my girlfriend enjoyed her Caprese salad. However, the Lamb burger had absolutely no flavor. Strike one. The second time I visited (early 2013), my girlfriend ordered the Caprese salad again and I decided to have a daily special - seafood gumbo in a bread bowl. She enjoyed the Caprese salad but I did not finish my gumbo. It was over salted and tasted like it had come out of a can. I asked my girlfriend to try it and she agreed. Strike two. I visited the third and final time a few months ago (early 2014) for breakfast because I saw online that they served shrimp & grits, a favorite of mine my grandma used to make in Virginia. I ordered the Grilled shrimp & grits (they have four or five different seasonings), and my girlfriend ordered the Florentine Eggs Benedict (Eggs Benedict with Spinach). The shrimp & grits were decent, nothing to write home about, but a plus is that the half a dozen or so shrimp were a very good size. However, my girlfriend only a few bites of her Eggs Benedict and could not eat anymore. She had an egg shell in almost every bite and the Spinach tasted like it had not been defrosted completely before cooking. Very rare that she does not enjoy Eggs Benedict and I tasted, and confirmed, her issue with the plate in question. Strike three, you're out. The waitresses are very nice but the service is really slow. I am not bothered by unusually slow service, being from the South and liking to take it easy and enjoy the dining experience, but I can see others having issues with this. The Sweet Tea was sub-par.

My family and I went to kris' to have breakfast today. There were five of us in total ordering breakfast. Our food came out from the kitchen and look great. We all said our prayer and began to enjoy. While beginning our meals, my daughter replied, "these mashed potatoes are homemade." After saying this she made this disgusting face and pulled paper from her mouth. She asked me to take a look at her plate. When I did I discovered an entire label in her mashed potatoes. I called for the manager because I couldn't believe what my daughter had eaten. The Manager came to our table, smile and said oh its a simple kitchen mistake. I was furious... I could believe she thought so lightly of the situation. I explained to her you're taking this quite well knowing your reputation is on the line. You as the manager should not see this as a simple mistake. The manager asked me so what do you want me to do? By this time I'm so disgusted I could not finish my food nor could anyone else. I told her I am very disappointed in you as a manager and a representative for Kris'. She got angry with me and asked us to leave and never return. In the mist of her asking us to leave, one of her employees was taking out the garbage and pushing it along using his apron instead of his hands. Wow... I said to myself, I couldn't believe she asked us to leave. I live around the corner from the restaurant and will not be back. I have recommended the restaurant to many family and friends. However, I will never recommend nor visit ever again. I will let all my friends and family know how rude and insensitive the manager was and not to frequent Kris' ever again.

I just arrived back into my hometown of Miami yesterday and I was pleased to be welcomed with delicious food! I was starving, irritated, and tired-- but Kris's definitely lightened up my mood. The place was packed, but we managed to quickly snag a seat outside. The service was mediocre, which is why I didn't give them 4 stars. It was chaos in that place because I'm assuming it was one of the only places open for new years. We received our food before our utensils--- but that wasn't too much of a kill joy for me. I ordered the banana pancakes with a side of sausage. Those pancakes were heaven in my mouth. I'm a pancake crackhead and they definitely hit the spot. These things were HUGE! I'm talking as big as my head type of huge (and my head is pretty big). The sausage was also really delicious and it wasn't salty like I was expecting it to be. My dad ordered the french toast and that looked pretty awesome as well. I was hungry and the double stack (2 pancakes) was more than enough. I actually wasn't even able to finish the bad boys. 2 times for Kris's. WHOOP WHOOP!

I've only been here for breakfast but this place is solid!! Theyre shrimp and grits are excellent. The shrimp were not overcooked and the grits were creamy and very tasty. I sat at the bar and received great service. Maybe one thing i would recommend to the owners reading this review is to keep the work area in front of the bar, facing the customers more tidy. There were large containers of condiments with ladles in them that aren't too appealing to look at as you eat your meal. But other than that i will be coming back for sureeee.

It was Mother's Day weekend and figured all the chains would be packed. We like to small business anyway a quick yelp search turned me on to this place. Wait for a table was nothing on a busy Saturday and that only good thing we experienced here. We were put at the table a foot from the hostess stand, so everyone who walked in looked upon you eating, And so we placed our orders. I always order corned beef hash at breakfast places, as a test- can't make it, you're no good for breakfast. I asked if they used canned corned-beef before I ordered, the waiter said no, so I placed my order with a side of home fires. We had a fine view of comings and going of each waitress and waiter and couldn't figure out why our meal was taking so long! Other people came after us and received their food before us!! Finally our food arrived after 30 minutes. Their potato pieces were way to big for home fries. Burt onion, and burnt chunky potato laid out on my plate. And I could almost figure any dish in appearance IF the seasonings were on point. They were not. Overall- I thought we were doing good by supporting a small business, but honestly, I know I would've had a decent satisfying breakfast at my local IHOP. I'm really surprised they're not even in the game here let alone the ballpark of decent breakfast!

Kris's is one place we like to go but, the conversation we always have - first is, do we want to wait? Waiting for a table is fine. And we are okay with waiting. Great restaurants have a wait. The secret to great restaurants are....make them wait at the door but once seated, blow their socks off with great food and service. But what's inordinately embarrassing at Kris's and painful is when the wait at the door is twice as long as quoted AND, once seated, and ordered, even after several 'it's on its way' updates from the waiter the food is 45 minutes. Who waits that long for two eggs Benedict's and one sandwich? We came in for Sunday breakfast at around 11:45. A busy time and the restaurant was full. But why is it so painful? A full restaurant with experience like Kris's should run like a machine. But it doesn't. Our waitress has been there a while and she is good. But what I often wonder about is how a wait staff can go into service knowing that getting the food will be 'the big challenge'! Day after day after day. Always the same. We only come in on the weekend so maybe it's a weekend thing? But today new staff on the door, not being managed, unskilled assistance with no service gene, irritable wait staff complaining to each other all around the place and a manager unfocused, un-involved and not running the room. It's embarrassing because it could be so much better, but because the restaurant adopts a committed approach of having a lack of effort to address and improve itself in the area of service (when busy), from what I can see after 10 or so visits, it becomes embarrassing. That said, the food is very good. So it's a conundrum. One that has my family skipping many visits. I'm sure the kitchen appreciates this as it makes their job one table easier, but is a conversation I have heard others having. Not a recipe for success, or for the revenue or employee retention, an operation like Kris's deserves.

Truly one of Miami's gems! This restauranteur has been around Miami for many years. Sold all of his previous restaurants at a profit. From the old "Your Father's Mustache" in South Miami, to the great comfort food "Krissal's" across from the Falls, the "Bagel Emporium" across from the University. This man is successful! American food, great breakfasts, to Indian to Caribbean and Jewish. He is great and versatile and always reasonable. A true gem!

Great place to lunch at! Love eating here when I'm in the area. They serve a chicken salad inside an avocado that is my staple every time I go. The creme brule is TO DIE FOR!

Wonderful local business! Large portions, great prices and friendly service. My friend and I split a 1/2 chicken meal (ordered an extra cup of lentil soup and fries to my fruit side) and there was more than enough for us to have a satisfying meal. That was some of the best roast chicken I've had in awhile. I will be back!

Had breakfast on Sunday morning. We chose outside seating and were seated right away. We were not approached until the hostess noticed at least 10 minutes later that we were still looking around with menus and no beverages. The outside seating, at least 10 tables, appeared to be worked by only one server who had difficulty keeping up. Our toast was forgotten until we were almost finished eating - my corned beef hash was doctored canned, even though I was assured that it was made with fresh corned beef and they add an automatic 18% tip even on a two person table. Lunch and dinner here have been good, maybe I will stick with that and eat breakfast elsewhere...

Love their Bok-Choy appetizer! Good food with huge portions. They do take their time in preparing your food so don't expect to be in and out quickly. They serve complimentary sourdough bread at dinner time and their stuffed pork chops were delicious. My friend always orders the Eggs Benedict and feels that is their best breakfast item. Breakfast is served until 3pm daily.

Such a pleasant surprise. Perfectly prepared and flavored comfort good at affordable prices. Nice atmosphere and attentive service. The clam chowder was chunky and garlicky-the best I may have ever had. The turkey dinner was yummy and satisfying. Food is fresh and flavors are complex; they know how to use garlic. My partner had a big, crisp salad with grilled chicken that hit the spot. We shared a perfect key lime pie.

I'm at Kris's about once a week for either breakfast or lunch! It's exactly what it's supposed to be...good diner type of food. I like their lunch menu the most- really good salads (I've tried like 4) love their cranberry chicken salad on an avocado half. Sandwiches are awesome!!! Breakfast is good, although their omelettes could be better...too big and overcooked. But, everything else for breakfast is good. My favorite thing is their caring and friendly staff :)

This joint has several things going for it, not the least of which is the food, but I'll save that for last. The first thing I noticed when I pulled up was the ample private parking lot. No meters, garages or those dreaded valets that go through your glove box and swipe your last stick of gum. Here, parking is as stress-free as picking a spot to lay out your towel on the beach. When you walk into Kris's, the first thing you'll notice is the dearth of hipsters. If you walk into a new restaurant and most of the diners are clad in black, gazing adoringly at their smart phones, and sipping funky cocktails the place will likely close before the next lease payment. Nope, at Kris's the clientele is 'of a certain age,' which in all likelihood means they're going to be loyal. And because they're also usually empty-nesters, there's more disposable income for restaurant meals. That's good news for the wait staff at Kriss', also "of a certain age.' Whenever I walk into a restaurant and the average age of the servers is 19, I know it's going to be a crap shoot. That clam chowder I ordered could very easily arrive at my table as "..THAT AIN'T CHOWDA!!" A 50-something server isn't working at a restaurant to save up for an X-Box or fare money to Cancun for spring break. It's their career, and they treat their diners accordingly. The food at Kris's is typical American diner fare with a modest flare. No razzle-dazzle, just feelgood meals like you might get from somebody who really likes you. The portions are big enough to make Fred Flintstone blush, and if you're like me and don't like the somewhat pricey dinner selections, you can order from the lunch menu at night. On my first visit I had the French dip au jus sandwhich, which had enough meat to choke a hyena. Two days later I had the lamb burger smothered in onions and mozzarella. Both were under $12, and made me want to bond with whomever was in the kitchen. It gets pretty cold inside the dining room, but luckily there's an outdoor terrace for those customers 'of a certain age' with a thin skin. If all else fails, the Walgreen's next door carries Icy Hot. Not for me, of course, lest you think I'm 'of a certain age.'

Very good place for breakfast. Today was disappointing. The home fries were sloppy and burned. Waffles were cold and soggy. Not their usual quality.

I am basing this review solely on breakfast, as I have only been there twice, and both times was for breakfast. Kris's has definitely got the breakfast thing down to a tee. Both times we were ther, we had excellent service, delicious food, and for a reasonable price. My first visit, I had the banana-strawberry french toast. Seriously, it was like a dessert. It was delicious!!! The next visit, I had their "fluffy" 3 egg omelette. The thing was ginormous. Very, very good. PS: If you're looking for lighter fare, my husband ad 3 eggs over easy with fruit and a wheat bagel. He was very satisfied. A definite must-try!!

Kris's is your standard, cute, average American diner. Wide selection of choices, huge portions, and friendly yet slow service. I came here on the request of a family friend, and forlornly looked over the menu. I didn't want steak or meatloaf, chicken curry from a diner sounded frightening, and the fish prices all seemed too much. A lamb burger then with a baked potato was ordered with raspberry ice tea for my drink. My tea was DELICIOUS and super refreshing considering I never got accustomed to the Florida heat. I went through many refills as I waited and waited and waited for our meal to come out. Food came and it was as expected-- nothing great but nothing to write home about. My burger was sadly well done when I asked for medium, and no sour cream was to be had with my baked potato. My companions meals seemed hit or miss, the curry being abysmal but the french onion soup being quite tasty. Portions were insane however, everyone at the table had leftovers. A fair price for a solid meal i'd say. The dining room was super busy and loud, which made conversation tricky. This is obviously a popular place -- and I can see why it may appeal to families. A little bit of everything so everyone can be happy. Though the sad standard of having "more" leading to mediocre quality seems to be the standard here.

I just want to share something that happened to my god sons father (George) at Krys's restaurant on US1 off 168 street going Northbound! A Dick Head manager David Caceres hired him, everything was going good. A week later his sons mother is getting married to George's uncle. When George gets in the day before the wedding David calls him into the office and tells him " The owners like you, he's a good guy but He thinks that George is not qualified for what the restaurant is looking for" After George Ampatzis passed the test ; learned the menu in one weekend ; hadn't been on the floor taking tables yet. Meanwhile the Gm told me personally David Caceres wasn't good at all when he started. Took him 1 year or more to Become a good server! That being said I think David Caceres was hiding the Truth when I asked why he fired George. He just got the manager position and he's already abusing it. What goes around comes around.. Meanwhile he put a good man and father of my god son out without a job and no income.. Not only that but when I went in for an interview half the servers would come up to the tables with an introduction as " Hello how are you, welcome to Kris's, what can I get you to drink?" Nothing was offered, no suggestions nor did they look motivated to work". All im saying if the manager makes decisions like this based on a personal opinion and is that harsh, i feel bad when you send back food or go apply for a position there. Never will go there or have any desire to as long as David Caceres manages there! If you want to visit a great restaurant visit Crave in Merrick Park. Exceptional service! Amazing food. Must try the fresh blue crab artichoke dip for appetizer, Made with Fresh Blue Crab, topped with parmesean cheese and lightly Baked till a golden brown!! Everyone I turn on to this plate has a new addiction!! My wife being my main and first victim! Haha, the aloha roll ; mango, avocado and tuna sashimi go together like peanut and jelly, delicious !!

My family and I have eaten at Kris's several times since they opened and the food has always been AMAZING and portions are ample regardless of breakfast, lunch or dinner. The blueberry pancakes are full of fresh, plump berries and the OJ is fresh squeezed with a very nice flavor. Their warm, fresh sour dough bread is perfection and their french onion soup is the best that I have found in town- it's difficult to find a place that doesn't make it too salty ! My favorite dish is the hot turkey dinner with the fixings and the chicken parm. Also highly recommended, at dinner be sure to try the crab cakes....I am normally not a huge fan of crab cakes, but Kris's are spectacular. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. The ambiance is upscale and modern and more geared towards adults and than to families with kids- a great date night spot though! I highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful meal at a great price!

Consistently good food and great service keeps us coming back! My husband and I have yet to have any that hasn't been outrageously delicious. Today I tried the Shrimp and Grits which was outstanding! A huge portion with large shrimp. We'll be back sooner than later!

I'm a little confused about this place, the service was great and the restaurant is very convenient to get to. But the food... The food was not that great. I may go again to give it another shoot, a lot of my friends like it here so it may just be me.

Great breakfast. BE AWARE.........TIPS ARE NOW INCLUDED ON BILL. Apparently they started that about 3 months ago, and of course, being in Palmetto Bay, we were not aware but someone at the office pointed it out to me.

  • Max T.

The reason for the 3 stars is the good service. The ladies that work there are amazing, very attentive. I have heard people complain about their service, and I did not get that experience. The food was okay. The omelets were great, the pancakes were flavorless. We went for the pancakes. 2 big flavorless pancakes for about $6, you can add fruit, for $1.50 more. Good value? not sure . The fruits are just laid on top of the pancake, and no sauce, they are fresh fruits, but not much technique to the whole thing. Maybe I was expecting more.

If you are one to confuse quantity for quality, Kris's is the place for you. Portions are huge-enough for two to share. The quality, at least for what I ordered, was average. I went to Kris's for lunch today. Upon entering the restaurant, I immediately noticed the deadpan looks on the faces of all the employees. In my mind I was thinking what an interesting lunch this would be. Much to my surprise, the one smiling face was my young male waiter. He was efficient and pleasant. I found the menu to have a good variety of foods ranging from breakfast entrees, lunch, sandwiches, salads and dinner menus. I ordered a turkey Rueben which was made with real turkey breast (not the lunch meat style turkey), The sandwich was huge and stuffed with what must have been 1/2 pound of turkey meat. It tasted ok, nothing special. As the waiter brought me the check I complemented him on having the only smiling face in the restaurant. Not one of the other employees smiled at the customers (not even the manager) which I found quite odd. Could it be that no one other than one waiter at this restaurant actually likes working there? If I were in the neighborhood again for lunch or breakfast, I would probably go back as the prices were reasonable and the food was acceptable.

I eat at Kris's often. The service is good, the food is consistently good, and the price is right. Their lunch specials are awesome! Chicken salad stuffed in a fresh avocado, home-made soups and great comfort food. Their breakfast is great too. They even have shrimp and grits. Better than I've had in 5 star restaurants in Coral Gables!

Went there for lunch. Nice looking place - clean and well decorated. Staff was extremely friendly and efficient. An eclectic menu. Anything from corned beef sandwiches to poached salmon with hollandaise sauce. Excellent pricing, especially the kids menu ($5 for a cheeseburger and fries). We started with an escargot appetizer. Not only was it delicious but an amazing portion. Traditionally, you get an escargot tray that has the small round holes holding the escargot with 1 escargot per hole so usually about 8 or small pieces. At Kris's, you get more then 1 per hole so you end up with a LOT of escargot! Went perfectly with their sourdough bread (make sure to ask for the bread if they don't offer) We also had the soup of the day (clam chowder). Often, clam chowder is served too salty for my tastes. Here, it was perfect! for my main I had the pulled pork wrap. I have to say not my favorite. Not because it was prepared badly but it was just too sweet for my tastes but I know alot of folks like sweeter bbq. Can't wait to try it for dinner and breakfast!

Great breakfast place and service! The lunch and dinner food is nothing to go back for but breakfast is beyond delish! The French toast are HUGE, fresh fruit comes in a large portion and the pancakes have a great taste.

Wow. This was one of those meals that you hated to pay for & wished you could throw up your meal (just once). The atmosphere is strange, like something that used to be a Denny's & later turned into a privately owned restaurant. It is right next to a Walgreens. There was no one under 70 in there. Then menu was very small but w/ a strange mix of ethnicities (from curry chicken to chips & salsa). The food was not so great. Similar to a hospital cafeteria. I got the curry chicken w/ rice & had a bone in the chicken. The flavor was like a TV dinner w/ dry chicken. I literally had only 2 bites & could not eat more. He got the prime rib & said it was gross & just tasted like salt. Not sure why people like it here. We had good service, but the food trumps anything potentially good.

So far I've eaten here twice, once for lunch with a friend, and once for dinner with my young child. I found the food to be good and tasty. I had the brochette appetizer, soup, and mimosa for lunch. The items were priced good, and the OJ was fresh squeezed and delicious. I came back a couple nights later for dinner and ordered the chicken Parmesan for $14. It was very good, full of flavor, as well as a good size portion. Their "child menu" needs a lot of work. For almost $6.00, we selected the chicken fingers. There were two small fingers served with loads of fries. The fingers were over cooked and dry. The kids meal did not come with another side option (vegetable), or a drink, and it did not come with a dessert. Most restaurants include one or the other, or both for that price. I will go back, but not with my child. Also both times I was there, I didn't see young children or kids. They did have a wall mounted TV on with the news muted during dinner, and at lunch. I'm under the impression it's more of an upscale "diner", or casual restaurant, yet not geared towards neighborhood "family" customers. So this is a good place if your looking for that style restaurant.

Terrible service still sitting here waiting for my bill. It's 1:23am on a Saturday. They are NOT set up for a party of 12. Food way to salty and dry

Another good experience here just a few days ago. I ordered the chicken piccata. Big portion great taste. Mom had chicken Parmesan. Same thing-big portion and good taste. Very generous wine pours. Yes it's an older crowd but what do you expect? You're in Palmetto Bay not ghetto Kendall. We will be back!

You need to try this! This place never fails to hit the spot. I have my personal favorites but I have never been disappointed. Try the avocado cranberry chicken salad! You will never have one like it, also the philly cheesestake, super yummy. I have become a serious regular!

One of the few great places to eat in Miami that has that welcome feel. This is one of my favorite spots. I'd recommend the prime rib, but the French onion soup is super. Staff is very friendly, and if you want to sit outside while they close to finish you bottle of wine, they are okay with that. They close after you leave. Big portion sizes so bring your appetite or a friend.

Long time Miami-Gables-S.Miami chef has mastered the art of diner and upscale mix yet again! Your Father's Mustache, Krissals, Kris'...always the same perfection when Kris is cooking. His restaurants quickly become my four generational family go-to dinner location when you want delicious food, when you want to escape the Kendall nighttime tablewaiting game and lines at all the popular chains when you realize, ugh, oh no, it's Friday night but where will we go that everyone will agree to? When you realize it'll be at least 45 mins at the Outback, PFChangs, or the random new hot chain, but still get extreme-value Cheesecake Factory sized portions and safe menu selections for even the pickiest of family members? There's even a children's menu. You walk into Kris's and get indoor or outdoor seating pretty quickly, even for a large party, and brisk service from several waiters at once, as needed. Great for grandma, date nights, happy hour, and especially good for breakfast (so I'm told, though I will find it hard to leave Walters). Fresh bread on the table right out of the oven. Constantly changing daily specials at all price points, intriguing appetizers and wine selections, and pretty cozy ambiance. You can have a luxurious booth, air conditioning pleasant enough for a wrap or sweater, or outdoor seating that isn't right on a busy sidewalk but pleasantly landscaped and spread out. Plenty of parking in their own lot, though a little US1 u-turn might be in order to enter it. Food? Divine upscale and diner food, both such as homemade corned beef and other jewish deli staples are always on the menu, such as perfect chicken salad., Comfort food favorites like roast turkey with all the trimmings or chicken fried steak, always there. Prime steaks or lovingly attended dishes like osso bucco, vary per night, as well as the fresh seafood in a neighborhood that lives on the Bay and knows their choices. Kris himself is Asian (Indian, I think) so it's always a sure thing if you spot something like that on the menu, from a samosa to a curry, even the bread with it will be perfection. This restaurant is always a satisfyin flavor experience with very efficient waitstaff, but the real value for my family lies in the fact that it's a locals only comfort food that accommodates a little family gathering without reservations. It's good enough for special occasions.

This place was amazing.. I had the Chicken Curry with basmati rice and roti and it was to die for.. Mi Bebe had the Filet Mignon smothered with mushrooms and sauce it was real good too.. I saw the couple next to our table and they had this huge Prime Rib that my boyfriend was drooling over and that couple devoured their food complimenting waitress how incredible it was.. We were catered by the staff and they were very friendly.. Love the decorum.. The ambience was very cozy and very modern.. One of the nicer restaurants around our area in Cutler Bay.. Will definitely return..

These guys generously hosted the Relay for Life team closing dinner and we had an amazing time. They were so accommodating - we had a group of around 30 and they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. For a smallish restaurant they had all of our orders out at roughly the same time - which could NOT have been easy for the kitchen staff. The wait staff were exemplary. They gave fast, courteous service above what one usually experiences in Miami. I was pleasantly surprised at the Samosa appetizers. I would not have expected these at a non-asian restaurant. They were spectacular. Thank you, Kris's, for making our celebration very special.

Ordered take out tonight. Been here a few times. Each time has left me questioning how good it was. The service and the food have been inconsistent. Sometimes its a great fun experience and other times I'm ready to cross them off the list. Tonight we were disappointed by the herb crusted chicken breast dinner which was taken a bit too literally for my tastes. Seemed like they opened every herb bottle they had and grilled the chicken on top of that. We also ordered the chicken fried chicken which was a hit as well as the mashed potatoes that came with a choice of different but both good gravies. Their sourdough bread, was also another hit. Going to continue to return, just hope they work out some of their kinks in service and menu items.

here's what I remember from when we went one month ago (I know...been occupied). Great home-made oj. Latte ok. we had breakfast on a saturday morning at 10am and were able to find seating right away but the place does get full. eegs, home potatoes alright and really no big deal. french toast is huge serving portion and alright too. the bacon tasted like it had been made for a while and did not taste fresh or crispy. the waiter was so blah, but it was just him b/c other servers were smiling at the patrons and saying "good morning." I can't even remember our waiters name but he def blew the big one. We haven't gone back and don't expect to return. my husband didn't care for the coffee and that's kind of a big deal for bfast. quick tip: french toast does not automatically come with bananas and strawberries; those are extra $, but our server didn't tell us this and it's not on the menu. i enjoy bananas but not strawberries with toast so paid to push them off to the side. i hate wasting food and $.

Wow...what an awesome restaurant. I found it one day when I saw their sign pulled in and thought I would take a chance on their food. I go there almost everyday. The food is really great. They give you so much food that you will have enough leftovers for a second meal later. They serve 3 meals daily and I really love it there. The service is sometimes a little slow for paying your bill but otherwise I would give it the highest rating.

We were regulars at Krissals and were happy to try Kris when they moved right into our neighborhood. We've been to Kris several times, especially for dinner on a Friday night when everywhere else is overcrowded. Their food, service and daily selections do not disappoint. My husband has always liked their prime rib which is excellent and very reasonably priced. Their salads which are included with the entree are almost a meal in itself and their freshly baked sourdough bread served hot on your table is always a treat. Would definitely recommend this friendly neighborhood restaurant.

If I was to guess and I'm considered the world's greatest guesser, I would say this is the first restaurant this guy has ever opened. I can see what he wants to do and it's a great start. The hostess needs to be replaced and her replacement need to be trained. The kitchen is too big. Too much room behind the bar. Not enough room given to the dining room. The dishes show lots of care but not enough though. I had the escargot and it was a great start. Too much white wine and garlic and not enough butter and herbs. I had the kings cut prime rib which impressive as it was, was over cooked and looked as if the au juos was ladled over top. The soup my meat rested in didn't help it at all. The fries where nice and my wife's chicken fried steak looked more like steak schnitzel. Overall I can see what they want to accomplish but they have lots of work to do. Consider them 5 steps before the final fine tuning.
