Best Nicaraguan food in the area!!! Of course nothing like my grandmas cooking but this place is truly amazing. I come here with coworkers every Friday to get the lunch special. The lomo asado with gallo pinto, tajadas, queso frito and taquito is delicious! The Tiras de fajita a la salsa jalapeños is the best I've had! The service is excellent, we feel like we get VIP service every time we go. I definitely recommend this place for authentic Nicaraguan food.

The food was delicious! From the fried cheese to the jalepeno sauce over meat to the tres leches! I'm definitely coming back.

I got the lunch special for carne asada, the meat was alright nothing too great. i would be willing to try it again. the soda was a bit pricey too, $2 for a can?

I freaking love this place. I've been coming here since the 90s. Place hasn't changed and neither has the delicious food. I love eating the camarones empanizado. The juices are great. Compliment the Nicaraguan traditional food well. Service is good. Staff is real nice in general. No complaints. Free parking. Nicely located in a Latin cultured neighborhood.

I generally order take-out from Guyacan. My favorite dish is Carne Asada. With white rice and plaintains. Plus, I order salsa jalapeno on the side which is fantastic (but not good if you're trying to lose weight!). It's great Nicaraguyan food. The value is excellent. The reason why it doesn't get 5 stars is the fact that the ambience is not the nicest. It's in a pretty grumpy neighborhood (Calle Ocho) but right next to Mr. Yum which has single-handedly revived that neighborhood.

This eatery hit the spot for a late-late lunch when we were starvation central. Circa 4pm, there were several parties already seated at both the counters up front and tables in back. The back area is def nicer by far. Plenty of space, attentive (and very cute) waiters, and the Olympics broadcasted live on the TVs above. The well-seasoned bread whet our appetites and I ended up using the trio of chimichurri, salsa marinara, and cebollita sauces on everything (probably sacrilegiously). The nacatamale (Nica tamale) was ok, but I really liked the tostones -- together they were enough for a heavy snack / light lunch. Guayacan was good, but probably wouldn't return when I go back to Miami. 3 stars for "just ok."

As a Nicaraguan, I consider myself an enthusiast of their food. I grew up eating the stuff almost every day and it would not be an exaggeration if I made the claim to have tried almost every Nica restaurant in Miami. I came here today for the first time after a few recommendations from some friends. As I walked in, I passed a banner displaying their menu and proudly proclaiming themselves as "The Best Nicaraguan Food in Miami." A bold claim to make and one I would keep in mind as I sampled their food. We walked in and since the place was empty, we were quickly. I ordered the "Bistec Encebollado" which translates to steak with onions. I ordered mine tomatoes as well but you can get it without, depending on your preference. It comes drenched in a delicious, rich, and sweet tomato-onion sauce that pairs perfectly with rice. The first thing I noticed as I began to sliced off my first piece was how easily my knife made its way through the steak. As I took my first bite, my observation was quickly substantiated by my teeth; the meat just melted in mouth, Not only was I blown away by the tenderness of their meat but by the flavor. I have eaten many "Bistecs Encebollados" and I can say that this is the best I have ever had. The entree comes with two side dishes. I ordered white rice and fried sweet plantains. The rice was cold but well cooked and perfectly seasoned. The fried sweet plantains were perfectly cooked. They were crispy on the outside; but yet firm on the inside. I was impressed by their food. When it comes to Nica food, just like any other, there are different levels to which the food is prepared. This is a higher level of quality than the typical Nica food place, the fritanga. The quality of the food and ingredients are better but the flavor profiles are different. The taste of the food at most fritangas outperform this place. Therefore, I would rate this place 3.5 stars but since I can't, I will round down to 3 stars. It is not the best place for Nica food in Miami, but it's still a good restaurant worthy of the opportunity to please your palette.

Super Cuban food! Looks like locals eat here. Service was fast and courteous! I would make it a point of stopping the next time I visit Miami.

Every trip to Miami I always make a stop at El Guayacan restaurant. Their food is above average and the service is always excellent. Their Churrasco steak is superb and not overprice. El Guayacan brings me back memories when Nicaraguan food was good and cheap. For a traditional look at Nicaraguan food stay away from those overprice Nicaraguan restaurants and visit this restaurant. Why I didnt give them 5 stars? They included the tip on my meal, this is not something you do for a restaurant of the Guayacan level. This kind of operations is what keep customers away. My advice is don't do this, with your good service leaving a tip is not a problem for most customers. ;)

On a business trip this last week to Fort Lauderdale, I was given a tip by my travelling co-worker to try this restaurant. He has family in Miami who frequents Guayacan. So one day after work, off we went to Little Havana. I have developed a liking for Central American food. There's a plethora of amazing Latin restaurants in LA, Nicaraguan food is one of my faves. OK, I like all kinds of cuisines, LOL. So I go there not expecting much, I came early for dinner so we were two and there were 3 other tables. The wait staff, shirt and tie, was focused on customers so we had no problems there. We ordered the parillada for two, frijoles con crema for appetizers. The waiter was attentive and explained very well the dishes and wanted to make someone's first time very comfortable there. So the frijoles come, smoothly pureed, with fried ripe plaintains and crema on the side. We wolfed that down pretty quickly. Then came the grilled meats. They came with rice and beans, plaintain chips and the gallo pinto (a cabbage relish) and chimichurri. I took a bite and WOW, I've never had perfectly seasoned grilled meats, grilled pork ribs and beef filets. It was juicy and slightly sweet but I could tell there was no sugar in the marinade. The flavors to the marinade were indistinguishable and I had to ask. I was obsessed with finding out what was in this marinade. A little prodding got the waiter to ask the chef. He came back and said, "its a combination of spices, garlic, banana vinegar and achiote (from Nicaragua)." It made sense, Nicaragua is closeby and these ingredients are readily available. I couldn't believe it, I kept eating and felt I could not stop. Geeesh, why aren't there more restaurants like this in SoCal?? I am on a focused hunt for a similar restaurant in LA. I was soo impressed I went back again and brought a nice bottle of red zin and I was in the clouds. Im looking forward to another visit. JYFMY!

Good, fresh food. Good prices. The Guayacan Restaurant is one of the many gems of 8th street "Little Havana." With a wide range of Nicaraguan dishes and a homey latino-american atmosphere it will leave you surprisingly pleased.

I cant say I know nicaraguan cuisine that well. I can certainly say its better than cuban food, but that's just my opinion. Getting to the point, I love this restaurant. The sopa de pollo (chicken soup) is a MUST, very homemade and tasty. Gets even better if you put the red onion sauce in it that they have on the table.... yum. Every time I come I always get the puntas de filete con jalapena. Its steak in a cream sauce with onion and jalapeno. Just the right amount of spice... its awwwesome. The sweet plantains are some of the best I've had. Also tried the whole fried snapper which was very good. Kind of hard to mess up whole fried snapper, but you'd be surprised. It might not be in the nicest part of town, and I cant comment on the front counter, as I've always sat in the back. I've never seen more than 4 tables in the place, which is sad bc guayacan is awesome. I have been 8-10 times and will keep going back. Final word, the service is always excellent. The same guy has been there every time I go and he's great. I think his name's frankie or something. Good guy.

I really like the variety of nica food they offer, but I think they overcook their dishes. My husbands Carne asada was well done when he ordered medium, my Tongue stew was also overcooked. The sides were good though - the gallo pinto, fried cheese etc. I've been there once only though, maybe it was bad luck. I would go again, the fried Tiscapa fish in a neighboring table did look good...

I love this place. It's so delicious. They have an executive lunch that you can't beat for the price. Try the blood sausage, and anything with the jalapeno sauce (yummy).

Delicious Nicaraguan cuisine. This place has been here forever, and theres a reason.

Delicious nacatamales, the best I've found in the area. Nacatamales are basically mind blowing delicious huge tamales filled with pork and rice and tomatoes, potatoes, some other stuff thrown in... basically a full meal. I pick them up for $5 each to go. Ask for extra of the orange chile sauce they give you, delicious also!!

guayacan is great, i really like their gallo pinto. i had lunch with some friends here today. i ordered the 'carne asada.' it was very tender and tasty. the plantains were a little too sweet for my taste but i ate them anyways. didnt finish my lunch so i had some leftovers... which, i just ate. good stuff.

seems to be focused on 'nica parrilla.' family owned and been around for more than 20 yrs apparently. sampled the antojitos platter, which included a large taquito, churrasco, pollo horneado, queso frito, maduros, ensalada de repollo, tajadas, and gallo pinto. -- liked it better since not all pre-cooked like at a fritanga. not sure what the black round rice "cake" is called went with the cacao drink (less chocolatety, too watery)

Gotta say I was a little disappointed since I wanted to go to Cafe Ocho but it was already closed so I just jetted across the street to Guayacan instead. It looked diner-ish at first glance, but being dinner time, the counter was closed and I had to sit in the fancier back area. I had the pork and it was good itself, but really nothing special. I didn't feel like it was full-on Nicaraguan style and the dining room was a bit cold and overly drafty with the ceiling fans going full blast. The service was attentive though I was the only one in the restaurant during my entire meal.
