Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza is ok but I had the chicken marsla lunch special and it was disgusting. Made me sick to my stomach. I am baffled by some of these reviews claiming that this is the best Italian food in Kendall. I've tried frozen dinners that are way better than this.

Love coming here with my kids to unwind. They love the pizza. Gotta love the old school elevator music playing in the background while I sip my cab. Hellloooo Gino Vannelli. Lol. Not a fancy place at all, but nice staff and great pizza pies.

I just moved into the Killian area and I was looking for a non-basic pizza place... Meaning -- it had to be family owned, instead of the usual big-corporate brands (domino's, pizza hut, papa john's) This place came heavily recommended to me by one of my peers and it did not disappoint. This NY style pizza really hit the spot. Really greasy, cheesy, and the garlic rolls were on point. The pizza quality is not on par with The Big Cheese, but it definitely holds its own. If you're looking for some good pizza give it a shot. I should also add that they were pretty quick to make it.

My dad used to bring me here as a child and it was my favorite. Fast forward 10+ years and I still love it. I've only had the pizza and garlic rolls here. They are excellent. The pizza is always thin, crispy, and perfectly cheesy - simply wonderful. The garlic rolls are also delicious. The service has always been great and the prices very reasonable. I'm not sure I'll ever try any other plates since I love the pizza so much. But I keep coming back - it's a lunchtime favorite for my mom and me.

It pains me to give a poor rating, but lately the service has gone down. The last 2 times I have ordered for delivery and both times my order has been wrong. Ordering a Fugazetti Pizza which has no red sauce, just onions and olive oil and they still can't get it right. Not sure if there's a change in staff, but the service needs to improve. The order takers are always rushing you and delivery time is always more than an hour long. I will not be ordering from them anymore until their service improves.

2nd time this week we order sauce and they forget to send it with delivery. Pizza is great service is 0

Just moved into the neighborhood a few months ago and decided to try some pizza from here. I found they had a takeout special online so we got the two medium classic for $15! and a side of garlic rolls for 1.99. Good deal imo. Went to go pick it up and apparently they do free delivery so i'll keep that in mind next time. Place doesnt have much parking but still easy to find some. Pizza was thin crust and very good! Cant wait to try more items from here.

....love the food, the service, great garlic rolls......AND I wish the owners would REALLY take the health department inspections to heart and correct the many violations that were found. The same problems have been noted over & over again....(see: dinemiami.com )...sounds like a good cleaning & building maintenance is in order.....come on. I love the experience And I don't want to get sick !

I have only eaten the pizza here and it was fantastic. Love the thin crust recipe. Get the special.

I tend to order the same thing over the past 20 years, so my review is based on repeated cravings. House salad is basic crisp and cold iceberg and tomato slices, BUT, the two house dressings are homemade olive-rich vinaigrette, or garlicky-creamy eggy house italian. I can't even decide which I like best. They deliver the salad with a condiment relish carousel so you can add sliced onion, black and green olives, and gardinera with pepperoncinis as you wish. They deliver a garlic bread to your table, which is delicious with your salad, but I highly suggest ordering the rolls most of all. They are bread knots covered in delicious chunky garlic and oil. I usually get the pizza, because I think the cheese is especially flavorful and the thin NY style crust is never burned, and always perfectly well done in the middle. Consistently delicious and crisp. Which pizza? They're all good. During Lent, I like the fugazetta or marinara. Something else they do well here that I order it often, is the gnocchi with gongonzola, the papa's pasta with pink sauce and abundant mushrooms and onions is comfort food delicious, too. Specials are the thing to do vs the standards recipes you know you love. House wines are a-ok. Service is brisk with waiters being long timers who remember your order without writing it down, One of the things that I love about DiPapa's is the rare ability to get a table for a large group, a very rare thing indeed when you want to merge the two families for a dinner out, along with grandma and such. it's not a big deal there to sit together at the big table or put some tables together, must have about 5 ways to do it there, and yet it never seems noisy. Good acoustics.

My wife and I devoured the seafood for two. The sauce was light and flavorful. The seafood mix was perfect and the pasts was al dente, the way we like it. We will bringing friends back to experience this dish! Try the house Italian dressing, it's home made!
(5)Shanon M.
First of all. The menu here NEEDS to be updated with the pricing! The menu at the restaurant is more expensive! Aside from that the food was pretty good, had the tortellini and my husband had the baked ziti. Food was a bit bland and plain. The rolls were great! Service was good
(3)Virgi L.
I just had spaghetti with meatballs even though the waitress told me they were not homemade. A bit on the greasy side and not enough sauce. I have also try their pizza which is better than their spaghetti and meatballs.
(3)Ralph G.
2 slices of pizza and a soda for less than $6. Yes, please!! Tasty, good - not great - really a mom and pop feel and I enjoyed it. It's within walking distance if my job do that's a plus.. I will likely be back when I'm craving a pizza and short on time.. If time permits, if rather go to Big Cheese or Mikes.. But this is definitely good enough for a lunch break meal
(3)Nathalie A.
This place sucks. Had gnocci pink sauce didt have taste at all. Over priced really do not recommend this place at all
(1)Dan M.
Just moved into the neighborhood and I have already ordered from them twice. Looking forward to dining in. We ordered some pizza, half cheese the other half veggie, and a whole Hawaiian. The take out portions were great, however the salad was a little weak. I will be back often!
(4)Vic P.
What a piece of shit!! Place and order for delivery and am told 45 min. Called a. Hour and half later to be told should be there in 2 min...2 plus hours later and still waiting...what a slap in the face to a regular as this is a regular occurrence! Piece of garbage service and food!!!!
(1)Claudia G.
This has become our Friday night special...tonight, fresh basil and garlic on my yummy pizza!
(4)Amanda F.
I'm only giving 4 stars because the one AND only good thing here is the chicken parm.
(4)Virginia M.
Be warned, the service here is well, not great- depends who you get. On one hand you have the nice waiter who will smile when taking your order and offer input if asked and then you have the waiter who swears he owns the place (he doesn't) and acts like you are bothering him. Along time ago, I lived right across the street from this place and my family and I told ourselves we would go and never did. Now that we live on the other side of town we visited- we regretted not visiting this place all the times before. The reason why they received 4 stars is simply because the taste and the quality of the food. It took a while but it was well worth the wait. Piece of advice though: if in a group and sharing a pizza, skip on all the personal pizza fiasco- get a medium or a large. It's more bang for your buck and everyone will be satisfied.
(4)Sunshine P.
My boyfriend and I had dinner there tonight and I must say it was delicious. I am your typical pasta and bread gal and this place definitely did it for me. The garlic rolls are so soft and so yummy! I had tortellini with chicken in pink sauce and it was Perfection. Our waiter was very nice and made sure to refill my water every time it was low and I love any waiter who does this because I love my water. The restaurant is small and old but that doesn't take away from the food. If you're craving yummy pasta and garlic roll and are in the area, I suggest coming here! I'll be back to try the pizza !
(5)Ivette R.
Yummy Pizza Yummy Garlic Rolls and yummy Stromboli's I love Di Papa's it's located at 9877 SW 88th St off the 874 Expressway. They have lots of great Italian food the staff is friendly and the restaurant is not as crowded as it usually was back then but I decided to come back

It pains me to have to give DiPapa's a 3 star rating overall but after all is said and done; they get what they deserve. I've been dining there for over 10 yrs. and as I read in another review of the place; the dining in is DEFINITELY hit or miss on the service. If I have no choice but to eat there I'll sit at the bar/take out area near the register. There's one particular male server that has the people skills of a "walking dead" zombie. He's rude, inattentive & absent-minded. He must be related to the owner to justify that he's still working there. I've complained to the owner & it didn't seem to phase him at all. Back to the food: The pizza is STELLAR!! Nothing more to say about that. There's a dish called Chicken Papa's that is not only delicious but plentiful and a sort of Italian comfort food. The slightly spicy pink sauce that coats the chicken & spaghetti is truly magnificent. The garlic bread; although simply French baguettes lathered in butter & Italian spices; is quite addicting. You'll find yourself eating more & more of it. They can't bring it out fast enough to satisfy the pallet as one order is never ever enough. I can't really comment on most of the menu items as I stick to the things I like but everything that comes out of the tiny kitchen looks very appetizing. Simply put, DiPapa's has great great Pizza and pasta dishes but they monumentally drop the ball in the service dept. Every employee there is rude or indifferent except for one hispanic young man who's been a server there for years. Unfortunately I can't reference him by name to give him props. It's a shame that things there are this way because I literally live across the street from the place! To truly summarize: please do go to DiPapa's for a meal but definitely get it TO GO!
(3)Mike A.
Great pizza! Owners are nice. Family run place. Good service. Food is good too. If you live nearby you should check it out! They have free delivery for those lazy raining days and great special.
(4)Andy G.
Family owned Italian spot that always hits the spot. The pizzas are very delicious and you have to try their house salad with their homemade dressing, it's amazing.
(5)Melissa P.
Good Authentic Italian food.. service is slow and parking can be a pain but worth it. Great garlic bread!! Stuff Shells!! :)
(4)jen r.
i used to be a regular at di papas years ago when I lived with my parents. now that im a real grown up and recently moved back into the neighborhood I have began frequenting di papas again. dining in can be hit or miss. the service is great from the bus boy/water boy but the actual waiter leaves a lot to be desired. the wine list is basically non existent, but you can bring your own for a small fee. the pizzas are awesome - actually better than I remember. the garlics rolls are delicious, just the right amount of garlic that you don't need a bottle of tums after. and the ____ (insert meat or pasta of choice) "papas dish" with pink sauce is my go to! they have great specials for take out (2 large pizzas for 19 or 2 entrees for 15) seriously that cant be beat. when I don't feel like cooking I know where to call!!
(3)Alex G.
This place need should probably get 1 star but I still take into account the fact that they used to be decent. The server has the personality of a wet mop. The bus boys were the nicest overall. The sauce.....man the sauce was bad. When the spaghetti that my daughter ordered came out it honestly looked horrible. The sauce looked dark and really weird and to top it off they put a ton of it everywhere. Well, long story short, we all ate the pizza which wasn't much better. The only thing that was good were the garlic rolls. Man that sauce still haunts me.........lol. I probably will never return unless I hear there was a major overhaul like in Bar Rescue.

This place is alright. The location is a little ghetto since it's in a small shopping plaza that includes a foodspot and a hardware store. But once you go inside, it turns out to be a cozy, comfortable spot to have lunch/dinner. When you walk in there are a few tables before the actual dining room, where there are a few TV's set up with different sporting games on. It's pretty laid back if you want to eat and watch a game. The dining room is fancier and has more of an intimate vibe. I had the chicken parm and it was ok. Every plate comes with garlic toast and salad. I also ordered a white pizza which happened to come with sliced tomato's on top, and it was actually pretty enjoyable. If you like Italian food and are not picky about it, you could check this place out.

My favorite restaurant for italian food! So yummy :) I love this tiny little whole in the wall that serves amazing Italian food. It's not Italy but pretty darn close. The place is small like I said, it sits about fifty people at max (I'm guestimating here) but the food is really good. This place has been around for a while and I've eaten here quite a few times over the years but let me just tell you about what I ate yesterday when I went with my fiance. Calamari friti: Oh so good! Yes it's fried but so worth it. It was overly greasy or too seasoned and the marinara sauce was a perfect compliment to the fried dish. I think I ate the whole dish by myself. Veal Parmigana: I know I know, this is so cliche Italian. This place though, takes it to the next level. The meat is tender, juicy and melt in your mouth. The spaghetti is made al dente (this means that it is not to soft but not to hard to be considered raw) which is hard to be found in Miami Seafood pasta: My fiance ordered this since I am highly allergic to seafood but I could barely pry him away for more than a second to ask him if he liked it. Devour is an understatement. He basically inhaled the plate he liked it that much. So yes I truly do recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for Italian. The only minus that I found was the price. It was sixty bucks for the two of us. Yikes! Thus why I give it a four star instead of a five star. :)
(4)Christian C.
For lunch you cant go wrong at Di Papa's. It may not be the best Italian place you can find but for a good true Italian lunch spot, with great prices, you wont be disappointed. Lunch specials are under $10 and bring a salad and bread. The pizza is decent and there is a good lunch special which gets you 2 slices and a soda for $5. Need good food in the area without breaking the bank, Di Papa's is your place!
(3)Greg L.
Very disappointed. Alfredo sauce was sticky. Ravioli marinara was greasy. Poor choice of wines. Many nearby choices that are excellent.
(2)Marquis M.
Awful. It's exactly like it looks from the outside: greasy, sloppy, and a bad case of heartburn. It's gross and the kitchen probably hasn't been cleaned in years and I doubt they even make anything in-house. I ordered gnocchi and it was not cooked all the way. It was hardly cooked even partially. It was like I was eating dough with sauce on it. I ate a few bites as I poked around my plate for the firmest pieces but I had to stop because it was just awful. Go if you want, the pizza is fine (they deliver), but the actual meals... nope.
(1)Rebecca C.
This is my go-to place for good Italian. I know someone else said it isn't "authentic" Italian, but atleast it's darn good food, whatever it is. We've been more than five times, so I can now fully write my review that this place hasn't once disappointed. And we've tried many of the menu items. They do have a casual bar seating, but I prefer the dining area. You better go on a full belly, or else you won't even start your meal. They begin by bringing generous amounts of garlic bread bursting with zestiness. And then they bring you a huge salad. And we usually order the fried calamari, even though we always say we won't, because it's irresistable. So yeah, by the time the food comes, I usually ask for a to-go box. Some of the greatness I've had: the lobster ravioli, the stuffed gnocchi with cream sauce and peas, gorgonzola gnocchi, pink sauce gnocchi (we always order this - best gnocchi i've found), and mussels with tomatoes. Some helpful hints: *check the special menu for the day, I usually order here and am always surprised. *go with the pink sauce. Whoever said their sauce tastes like ketchup is insane (no offense) because i freaking hate ketchip and that is well known here on yelp sooo... why would i love something if i hate it? but maybe that goes for the red sauce, so be safe - go pink! *upgrade the salad to caesar - also deliciously salty and worth the bazillion calories. Trust me, if you are going here, you aren't worrying anything about calories. Oh and dare I even say - when I decided to venture out and try Fratelli Milano because of it's amazing reviews and found myself comparing the two, Di Papa's won.
(5)Rickie G.
Nothing too special, reason I have only dined here once I guess. So much computation in Italian cooking you really need to step up your game. The pizza is alright and pastas too. Stop in and see if they make more of an impact on you, especially if you live in the area.
(3)George M.
Five people, five different dishes, three out of five where good so that gets Di Papa's three stars - that seems fair Lucho, A Real silent G like in Lasagna didn't like his and said it's not even the "chancleta of the one you can get at Big Cheese"
(3)Vanessa S.
I really do like this place, a lot! But sadly they have failed in what in my opinion is the most important thing your local pizza place brings you - delivery! On a few occasions Di Papa's delivery has been slow, pizza has arrived cold and they offer no apology or acceptable remedy when you bring their missteps to their attention. I'm pretty bummed we won't be ordering from here anymore but I can't go on pretending that I'm ok with paying for cold pizza and a bad attitude.
(2)Howard B.
If I could do 3 1/2 I would rate it there. I will go with a 4 since I think some of the reviews I have read have been harsh. I live near by and I have had decent service every time I go there. I think the value is good too. I have certainly had more authentic Italian food but this is very good. I have had the lasagna and it was better than average, I have had the carbonara and although maybe not authentic it was very good. I have had the veal scallopini and it was not very good. The calzones and the pizza are also good. The free garlic bread is good and so are the salads. The anti pasta is also very good and large if unremarkable. In fact very good but unremarkable is a good description for the restaurant. All in all, the place reminds of Italian restaurants in Southern New England I would visit in my youth in the 70's and 80's. The place is a bit of a time trip for me. Stick to typical dishes (and maybe ones with tomato sauce) and you will be happy. I have never left unhappy - but I have never been blown away either.
(4)Brett H.
I've been here a few times and its a great place if you are looking for a nice, small, casual Italian restaurant. I usually have pizza here which is very good. The bread is also great to have. I've only had their pasta once and it was good but I would stick with the pizza.
(4)Nicole A.
I will never, ever, ever, EVER eat at this place again! I cringe at the thought of ever ordering from this place again. I love Italian food and I eat it a lot, but this, this isn't Italian food. I ordered baked ziti and it came with a salad. The lettuce was old and gross. I poured so much oil and vinegar on my salad just to try to get some taste. I ate a tomato and a piece of lettuce that didn't look old. The baked ziti looked good and that's as far as that went. It had no taste whatsoever. It was so blah. I took two bites and I was done. It was awful. I asked my date if he wanted to try some and he said yes. As I started picking at it and putting some on his plate I hit something hard. I began inspecting and found a PLASTIC SPOON BAKED INTO MY ZITI!!!!!!!!! WTF?! I pushed the food aside, my date paid and we vowed to never return to this place. AWFUL!!!
(1)Tom G.
Have you ever looked for a place that was just right for your situation? Meaning just average and unremarkable. Ever feel like a zombie and just need to wolf down some brains (or rather pizza or pasta with beer or red wine)? Need to take out the whole stinkin family, but lack the coin? Taking someone on a cheap date or don't want to be seen by 'normal' people? Well this is your place. Here's what I've learned: 1. They call it Italian, but it's really more Italian/Gringo Style 2. The prices are good 3. The service is ok (for zombies) 4. Food is quick enough 5. Takeout pizza is great (that's why I gave them 3 stars)
(3)Jessica E.
I like the fettuccini Alfredo. Service is good.
(3)Katherine D.
The first time I went to Di Papa's was with my family a few days ago, and honestly, coming from a New Yorker, this is as good as some of the best pizza spots in Manhattan. I love their pizza and their cannoli's are so authentic, it reminded me of my favorite Italian pastry shop back in N.Y.C. Di Papa's is affordable and delicious, everything I look for in a perfect Italian restaurant in Miami.
(5)Chelsea S.
Intensely underwhelming. Pros: ... I did not spit out any food. Cons: where to begin? Walked in the to-go side by accident (doors were not marked) and we were greeted by "yes?". Not a great start. Asked for a table and was sat down by a waiter who seemed to be mute, uttered not a word. We looked over the menu while a busboy brought water. After about 10 minutes the waiter came and asked if we were ready. We ordered a calzone and the baked ziti. My boyfriend got a salad with his pasta and requested blue cheese dressing. The salad was brought out with ranch and looked as if it had been stored in the fridge for about a month. Gross. Then the entrees arrived. Or should I say entree. The baked ziti came out about 5 min before the calzone and it was tasteless. The calzone, when it finally came, was ENORMOUS. It was served on a metal platter, rather than a plate, that moved whenever you wanted to cut into the calzone. It came with a bowl of what I guess passes for marinara, I tasted and then pushed aside. The calzone itself was filled with gobs of ricotta! I requested pepperoni, which didn't make an appearance until the middle, where there was 3-4 stacks of about 10 pepperonis. That was it. My boyfriend gave the waiter $2, one for taking the order, one for bringing the check. Nonexistent service, pathetic food. Take a pass for this crappy joke of an Italian restaurant.

I've been here twice - the former of the two was quite awhile ago (before I discovered the awesomeness that is Yelp!). We had pizza then and from what I remember the service was fine (I usually remember either really great or really poor service). My most recent visit was pretty good. I realize dinner time in Miami is a bit late, but I don't appreciate awkward stares when I arrive at 6 pm. We were "greeted" by a server who seemed inconvenienced by showing us to our table ("2?", with no gesture to follow, throws some menus on a table and is walking away before we are even seated!) Our actual server was a bit more friendly and a ton more helpful. I was having a hard time deciding on what to order (it all sounds sooo amazing!!) and he helped me decide on the cannelloni with beef and spinach which was verrry good. My roommate ordered the tortellini and when it came with meat in it (surprise? no clarification on menu...) the server was understanding and brought out a different dish (spinach and cheese ravioli) which was very good. Both meals were preceded by yummmmmy garlic toast and a very tasty salad (the creamy Italian dressing was amazing!). I'd definitely return here again - meals are delicious and prices are right. Yeah, it didn't stand out with customer service in the beginning, but they pulled through in the end and that's a lot for Miami :)
(4)Janina A.
This place is only a few blocks away from my Moms house and I have been going there since they opened. Hands down its my favorite Italian restaurant in Miami. If you want "authentic" Italian food then go to Italy as that's the only place you will get the real thing. I personally have been to Italy twice and I think DiPapa's comes pretty darn close to the food Ive had there. Their pizza is very tasty with a thin and crispy crust. My favorite dish is the Baked Ziti. Another reviewer complained about their sauce but that's actually why I love this place so much! I love that the sauce has a sweet kick to it. Their Creamy Italian dressing is my absolute favorite. Another one of the reasons why I love this place so much. Its definitely worth giving it a try. Yummy food and nice atmosphere.
(5)Annie T.
This is one of those neighborhood, mom & pop shops that we frequent at least monthly! The food is consistently delicious with excellent service. We have never had anything off the menu that wasn't something we truly enjoyed. So glad to have this gemstone close to home.
(5)Alicia P.
This is my favorite neighborhood pizza place when I want big cheesy slices of pizza delivered to my doorstep. I don't really think I'd drop by to have dinner there, but I have had their lasagna delivered as well and was pleasantly surprised. All in all, it's one of the places I rely on near home.
(4)Amanda O.
This restaurant is a diamond in the rough; by far, Di Papa's is one of my favorite restaurants. It is a hole in the wall and doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is very cozy and inviting. The food is exceptional and the service is great! :)
