If you walk by Cake Thai Kitchen on an average night, chances are that you'll see people at tables, licking their fingers and moaning appreciatively. (This is Miami, but rest assured - Bang Bros. is not filming.) You're just witnessing the near-orgiastic delight of Miamians who have discovered Cake Thai Kitchen - the best little hole-in-the-wall since Jacalito Taqueria. And because it's a hole-in-the-wall, you'll need to overlook several things: The circa 1976 air-conditioner, which barely cools the place, and drips on you as you walk in. The cheap-fluorescent lighting that highlights your clogged pores as you stare into the mirrored walls like you're in a fucked up horror funhouse. The decidedly eco-unfriendly styrofoam serving plates. The sacrilege of paying an extra $2 for white rice. The spotty-at-times service. But if you're willing to overlook all those things, whooo mama. You're in for a fucking feast. In my humble opinion (on which you should absolutely place an inordinate amount of weight, only because I'm one of like, 10 Asian people in Miami), the Baby Back Ribs with Crispy Garlic Pepper is Cake's crown jewel. It comes out perfectly seared on the outside, and is beautifully seasoned with (what else) garlic, pepper, and probably crack. I'll make it even easier for you guys - it's No. 45 on the menu. See how nice I am? Other notable dishes include their Garlic Cabbage with its delicate balance of sweetness and umami; their Five Spice Rice Noodle Spicy Beef Flank Soup (also the name of Dumbfoundead's next hit single); and for those of you who were born unadventurous and just want the mac-and-cheese of Thai food, their Prawn Pad Thai will convince you to give up your first-born. Note: Cake does not serve beer or liquor, but all is not lost. Two doors down, there's a little-ass craft beer brewery/store, run by a little-ass guy who is almost psychic in his beer recommendations. You can buy a single beer (or five, natch) and take it with you to Cake. In closing, this place is the shit. My only fear is that Cake will soon win a New Times award (if they haven't already), and move away from my 'hood and into Wynwood, the better to be overrun by hipsters on their way home from an Urban Outfitters shopping binge. (Don't worry, Cake. If you relocate, I'll still love you forever and ever. I'll just slightly resent your treacherous ass for leaving me alone with no good Thai food.)

Cake Thai is a small family owned restaurant running on MiMo that is serving the best Thai food in Miami. Located in a small shop on Biscayne and 79th, this restaurant sits no more than 12-14. But don't let it looks deter you from coming. Food is really fresh, cooked to order. Quality is outstanding. We have eaten here twice now and each has been perfect. Our favorite dishes are: Crab Fried Rice: egg, scallion, cilantro and cucumber on the side. Grilled tiger prawns: spicy cilantro sauce. Red Curry Crispy Duck: grape tomato, bamboo, basil and pine apple kaffir leaf. Baby Back Rib: crispy garlic, cilantro and black pepper. Egg Plant Miso Chili Paste Tofu: basil, serrano and chili onion. All these are winning dishes in our book. You really can't go wrong with any of the above. Next time we want to try some noodle. Our neighbors savored some and slurped until the last one.. Thank you, Cake, for bringing quality Thai cuisine to Miami. Delivery is also a huge plus which is great for us on days we feel lazy to cook.

Food is 5 stars, very authentic and creative Environment is very simple, not a first date place for sure; no bathroom in the restaurant (is that even legal?) We had pineapple fried rice, Green papaya salad, a shrimp dish and somn else.... Outstanding

The best suggestion in a really long time: stop next door at The Brewery and then head over here to eat delicious Thai food. It is a super fun night! It's BYOB, so feel free to bring a bottle of wine or beer from next door. It's a super tiny hole in the wall restaurant, and that only adds to the charm. All mixed matched furniture and art on the wall, you're not sure what to expect. The menu is massive, making it hard to choose just one thing. By 8:30PM or so, they were sold out of a few specials, but the menu had so many good options it didn't bother me. Holy cow. The food here is beyond delicious! Great portions, not too greasy and the taste of everything... I'll be going back first chance. I've been looking for a new Thai place, and I'm happy to say I have found it. Please, stop by this place and check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Wonderful Thai restaurant! The place is small and parking was a little difficult to find but the food was superb. This is a little shop that might seat around 20 people, you may eat there or order take out. The menu is varied and offers an array of Thai favorites as well as original dishes. The day we went I had the roasted chili paste squid which was flavorful, made fresh and delicious. The sides are ordered separately and everything is reasonably priced. I really enjoyed it and plan to come and try more dishes, my only hang up was that I had a difficult time finding parking, had to park 2 blocks away but that won't deter me from returning :)

Hands down the best Thai in Miami. So authentic. They deserve a better location and more seating.

I'm still in a state of shock, I have no idea how my yelp friend Krys P. found this gem Cake Thai. This is the first authentic Thai restaurant I've ever encountered in America, not to say they don't exist, but none have ever crossed my path before. Typical of Asian food gems, this place is located in the unexpected and along the path less trodden. Sandwiched between a pay-day-loan Check cashers and a Jewelry Repair shop, Cake Thai is Perched just of north of 79 st along Biscayne blvd located in the former " Cafe Chin Fun". There's about 5 or so small tables, 2 of which are two seaters. I truly love the off the beaten path feel of this place. Dining in I kind of felt like I was eating in a giant stationary Thai rikshaw. Some of the other restaurant patrons appeared well traveled, and I'm not talking about the all inclusive "Caribbean" resort type. I'm talking about the adventure type, the type that trek to Borobudor or Anghor Wat, or swim with whale sharks. Looking at the menu I saw entree's like "Grilled Pork Shoulder & Roasted Rice" and "Spicy Grilled Egg Plant Ground Pork & Shrimp", you're not going to see these items on any Americanized Thai menu. Say good-bye to the vegan-like wheat gluten ractangle'd tasteless chicken strips used in Americanized Thai restaurants, and say hello to big chicken breasts full of flavor! Yes you read that right and there's no frozen slices of potato in this baby, just take a look at those mini whole potatoes bouncing in that rich massaman curry. bit.ly/1JvMDjB Another time I passed by I had The Roasted Chili Paste Squid with Homemade Salty Egg, it was delicious and spicy, I could genuinely eat this every day. I've also tried The Spicy Flat Glass Noodle Seafood with Peppercorn, this dish was tasty & peppery with a pleasing contrast of textures. bit.ly/1JvNHUO Now to the desert, I tried the mango sticky rice for the first time. The only way I can describe it is just imagine a little piece of fruity sweet heaven melting in your mouth. bit.ly/1AVMd2X Of last note, if you're one of those individuals who love MSG laden egg roll's, greasy fried rice or General Tso's chicken, I would stay clear of this place. As I'm certain you'll definitely not appreciate this kind of cuisine as well as any other type of authentic Asian cuisine. NOTE'S - there's metered parking on the side of the plaza and across Biscayne blvd on the side street. -they're not open on Tuesdays. -they don't accept Amex, but claim they soon will. -rice does not come with entree's, you must order it separately.

I should start my review with biggest complaint because the food here is very good, but, if I'm paying $12 for crispy pork belly I think it wouldn't be too much to ask that it comes with a side of white rice to make it a meal. That being said, the crispy pork belly was hands down one of the best things I've tried here so far, the portion is quite small just so you know. Everything I've tried here so far has been really good to great, so don't let the location turn you off to trying it. Also don't confuse it with the Thai place literally next door which serves decent Thai as well but I think this place takes the Cake.

Met a girl friend from San Francisco and her Phillipino husband for dinner with my best friend. They arrived just a minute or two before us and asked for a table for four. They had just sat an older, richer couple at the last big table. And gave us all a 2 person table against a wall. Brought over a 3rd chair, and one of us was left standing. The woman who sat us said she would switch us before anyone ordered. The whole place was staring because one of us was just standing awkwardly. The older couple just shook their heads "NO" when the host/server approached. I walked over and personally asked if they could spare one of their chairs, and we pulled the table from the wall, boxing another table in with our makeshift arrangement. So here we are, 4 at a 2-person table, knocking elbows, while 2 apathetic and selfish people sit at the 4-person table. Exactly what's wrong with the world. Maybe I'm nicer than most people, but I don't think anyone I know would have done what these folks did. If I wasn't with my friends, I would have gotten up and gone somewhere else. After 20 minutes someone finally came to our table. I ordered my drink, thinking I still had time to choose an entree and asked for the waitress to point me in the right direction. It was my first time here and I have heard great things. She pointed to the most expensive thing on the menu so I politely asked for another minute to decide and she had already taken everyone's order. She returned with a Thai tea, ice already melted, no cream, and the cup lid broke the straw because they had ordered the wrong straws. Whatever. Right? So I asked for the cream and she took her time bringing it and dropped it off on her way to another table. I was still waiting for her to take my order, and waited for her to finish with her other table. Then she took orders on the phone instead of coming to my table for mine. What kind of service is this? After a while, I got up and went to the counter to place my order, wanting our food to come out together or relatively close to it. When she got off the phone, she didn't help me but went back to another table! Is this some kind of joke? So I expressed what happened to what seemed to be the owner and she just smiled like that's normal. I asked if there's any way my food could be rushed ahead to come out with theirs. It had been at least 20 minutes since they ordered and this situation was not my fault. She basically said no, it won't. I was shocked but went back to my table and swallowed the disappointment. She brought their food and asked if they would like chopsticks. Yes, the entire table replied. 20 minutes and no chopsticks but she's behind the counter again. Good memory and awareness of customer needs, maybe a smile, are basic qualifications for being a server. And maybe an apology when you know you're not delivering service very well. NOPE! We reminded her, and she came back with 2 pairs. My friends were waiting for my entree to come out but I told them to just eat before it gets cold. After almost 40 minutes my order arrived but again I had no fork or chopsticks to eat it with. Had to ask because my server couldn't determine that herself. Maybe I'm being too picky? I don't expect great service from anywhere in Miami but this was downright insulting. And when trying to politely let the staff know what was going on, I was met with indifference and apathy, not understanding. The staff was clueless and ignorant. I at first thought they were understaffed. How can anyone expect you to be a good server if you have to take delivery orders over the phone as it rings off the hook, and bus tables and run food? But then after realizing my servers lack of skills and strong european accent, I determined she is probably paid under the table and they just didn't wanna hire another person, at the customers' expense. Now, I have no proof, but it just a suspicion. It was painful and I don't think I will be back. Maybe they have too many customers. Maybe they don't need my business. But all the restaurants I've liked, I've been very loyal too. The staff knows my order and greets me by name when I walk in at my sushi, Vietnamese, and Thai spots. I'll keep giving them my business, because Cake lost the bid. I guess they aren't good at first impressions and don't rely on repeat customers. I know decent Asian food is hard to find in Miami, but so is service. Where can I find decent service in Miami?

The first time I walked into Cake and sniffed in the air, thick with sizzling spices, fish sauce and chili, I knew this place is the real deal. I haven't disliked any dish I've tried here, but my favorites are: - #28 Spicy grilled pork salad. Pork neck/collar is the favorite cuts among the Thai, as it is relatively lean but w good marbling, flavorful, tender but with a nice tooth resistance. It's been called the "next pork belly." It's still rare on Miami's restaurant menus, and nice of Cake to procure this cut. It's charcoal grilled, in a sauce perfectly balanced in sweet, sour, spicy and savory, and served with arugula. What I thought was finely minced garlic turns out to be toasted rice that adds crunch to the dish. This dish is so good the first time I had it, I just had to close my eyes, so I can focus all my senses on it. - Morning glory, aka water spinach or ong choy, is popular in Chinese restaurants but I'd say Cake does it better than any of them, abundant with garlic and shrimp paste and bursting with "wok hei." - Panang pork belly. Ok, it's hard to go wrong with pork belly, or Panang curry. But here the curry just tastes much better than average. The dish came out as slices of pork belly with sauce poured over it, I expected it to be bland but was surprised. - #35 Five spice beef noodle. I asked if they have boat noodles, kuai tiao ruea, and was told that's #35. I asked, do you guys add pig blood to it? And he said yes. Not that I could taste the blood, but it's flavorful. - #41 Squid in chili paste and salty egg. You can't see the egg but it's in the sauce and add a certain sweetness to the spicy chili. Squid is tender and not chewy. - #43 Crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli. personally I prefer more greens, but the pork belly is crunchy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. - Mango sticky rice - succulent, sweet mango on top of sticky rice in coconut milk. Thai like their dessert with a dash of salt. I thought I was full but somehow managed to empty the plate... We were lucky to be served by Cake's mom, who told us how when she was pregnant she ate 5 lbs of cake a day (hence the son's nickname.) They don't serve beer, but go next door to get some from Biscayne Home Brew. Excellent craft beers, and if you feel lost not seeing Bud Lite or Corona, the staff can recommend. While I love this place, I can see how some customers may not enjoy it. This place is really small, with about 6 card tables. There's no restroom. Rice costs extra. Worst (or best) of all, it serves authentic dishes that is very different from what most people are used to. Cake mom told us how she has to explain to customers that pad thai is traditionally made with shrimp and she can't make it w chicken, how the different curries are flavored differently to pair with a particular meat, and that cashew goes together with chicken, not beef. Come on, will you ask a chef to substitute chicken or tofu in a beef bourguignon? Time to show RESPECT to an excellent chef and a great cuisine. Cake Mom also told us that some investors are interested in opening a Cake Thai in Wynwood. I become worried that the new place will end up with lycheetini and a menu of pick your sauce + meat, but Cake Mom assures me that Wynwood is for young people and she prefers to stay put in this original location. Keeping fingers crossed. Meanwhile, indulge.

As good as it gets!!! Seriously, you know you've found a gem when you're stuffed to the gills off your first meal and simultaneously planning your next. We had: 24. Spicy pickle bamboo salad. Refreshing side with very unique seasoning - maybe the cardamon. Interesting flavor with just the right amount of spice. Probably won't order again but enjoyed. 53. Eggplant and tofu miso. Ohhhhh emmmm geeee!! As a mostly pescatarian I was initially slightly concerned with the meat-heavy menu but this eggplant tofu dish slapped me silly right in the face like ka-POW!! Take this you doubter! The eggplant was rich in flavor and the texture was perfectly soft. The tofu was just a tad crispy and the sauce, salty deliciousness. I die happy. 43. Crispy pork belly and Chinese broccoli. Hubby loved it. The Thai donuts suffered a bit from the ride over but I can't complain about the flavor and sweet finish As others have mentioned don't forget to order rice. A small side was enough for my husband and I to share as we go light on it. I can't call myself knowledgeable enough to rate the authenticity of the food but I can tell you on a deliciousness scale it's off the charts. If this is what Thai street cuisine truly is, I'm in love.

This place has some of the best, if not the best, Thai food in Miami. I've yet to find an item in their menu I don't like, that being said there is a dish that I find myself gravitating to more often than not and that is the red curry crispy duck (#59?) with a side of rice... it's absolutely delicious. Now that we've established that they serve tasty quality food, let's go over the not so great things: 1- Their hours, I've visited since Jan/Feb 2015 and I've struggled a few times to find this place open for lunch. At one point they were closed on Tuesday, then opened every day and now back to closing on Tuesdays. The uncertainty is tough as I work nearly 20 miles from there and it's a gamble to head out there without knowing if it's open or not... I've been burned a few times by now. 2- Getting someone to answer the phone, I have trouble getting a hold of anyone to check point #1. 3- Consistency, while the taste is consistently good I cannot say the same about portions and/or presentation. In the end Cake sits somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars, the food is delicious but service and consistency can be a turn off for some.

I must admit: if it weren't for all the amazing reviews on Yelp, I would never have set foot in this place. To say "it doesn't LOOK very promising" is an understatement... But wow! The food completely blew me away. It is packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. I got the "eggplant miso chili paste tofu", and I've got to say, I got a huge serving considering how inexpensive it was. While it was a little on the salty side, I'd order it again. My fiancé got the "te-po pork belly tamarind morning glory curry". While I don't eat meat, I gave the curry a try. I'm still in awe. Definitely getting the veggie version of that next time! There are some things you should know: 1) They do not have a bathroom, so you have to go to CVS or one of the other nearby shops. 2) You can bring your own beer!! 3) It's small, divey, and very hot. Don't get dressed up for this place, ladies. 4) The meals do not come with rice. Be sure to order some on the side.
(4)Daryl M.
This place is extremely dangerous. You might enter with a sound and functioning brain, capable of making rational decisions. All that changes the moment the food is served. You immediately resort to animal instincts of hungry cavemen that have been on a 2 day drought without food and water. No matter how hot the food is, you continue. It's like rough sex, inside your mouth. It hurts, but you want more. Some of you may be into that. Your taste buds will no longer be buds by the end of your meal, they will sizzle and die, Cake Thai is the funeral. So now let me make a recommendation - if you don't like duck, order the crispy duck curry. That's not a typo or error in grammatical structure. You will like duck forever after following my instruction. This place is GOLD. I will be back soon, very soon, probably tomorrow. 5 stars
(5)Sara H.
OMG the best Thai food I've ever tasted and it's right around the corner. Get there, but don't expect super fast service. It's about chatting with the people at the table next to you and gosh darn good eats.
(5)Rebecca B.
I was not as blown away by this place as I had anticipated. Friends and others have spoken so highly of it. It was very good don't get me wrong but not the best in the area. It isn't always easy to find authentic Thai food in and around Miami beach and the fact that this place is focused on the food and flavorings and not the fanciness of the locale is also a plus. I'm a huge fan of modest places that trend towards hole in the wall and focus on substance over style so high marks for this. Also love this mimo, upper east neighborhood and all its hidden gems. The food flavoring is delicious and very opulent considering the Spartan decor and setting of this little place. I have been to Thailand and would say that many of the flavorings come close to what you would eat at a restaurant in Bangkok. As a veggie lover, the curried cabbage was a delicious and nice surprise. I love prawns and they flavoring is deelish but I can't do head on so if you can't either just be aware. Also if you want rice you need to ask for it, it is not included. All in all a great addition to the mimo area and a tasty meal.

Long wait but the food is so good and authentic it's well worth it! I am a addict. Love the papaya salad. This place is a must!

Very disappointed after reading the slew of positive reviews and experiences this restaurant has. Everything from the experience to the food was a big swing and a miss. We went on a Friday night with a group of five people. Not too big of a group, you might think, but upon arrival, and realizing how small the place was, and seeing how packed it was, we decided, ok, we'll just get it to go and eat it at home. My girlfriend and I ordered Tom Kha chicken soup, pineapple fried rice and tiger prawn pad Thai. We were told 20 minutes, which is a perfectly acceptable waiting period. Minimum, it was 45 minutes, but I'm fairly certain it was closer to an hour. No, I never complained once, because I don't like to complain to people preparing my food. If we hadn't already paid for the food, we absolutely would have just left and gone somewhere else. Look, I know you want my business and you don't want me to go somewhere else, but if you're honest and tell me "Look, just so you know, we're super busy and backed up, so it will be like an hour for your take out order," not only am I going to be impressed and appreciative you warned me, but the allure and desire to come back and try this in demand food becomes even higher. Finally getting our food home, the disappointment didn't stop. First off, ALL of the food was lukewarm, making me question how long it sat around before we even picked it up and took it home. The Tom Kha soup was super acidic. The pineapple fried rice was not bad, besides just being tepid. But, the tiger prawn pad Thai was pretty unappealing. It came out of the container congealed together in big clumps, like it just came out of the refrigerator. The noodles were crunchy. I was nervous to even eat the shrimp at that point, but as it had been about 10 hours since I last ate, and my stomach was caving in on itself like a dying star, I inhaled everything before my brain could process how unappetizing the food actually was. You burned me, Cake Thai Kitchen. And not with your food's temperature or spiciness. With your false promises and lack of apologies for the insanely long wait. I'll never be back, and would much rather make the trek to Kendall to Rock A Bangkok, the best Thai in Miami.
(2)Mariauxy C.
Been meaning to eat at this place since its opening. Finally today we ordered and was amazed by the flavors of the three items we ordered. The Crispy Pork Belly and Chinese Broccoli was just right with the flavors of chili, garlic and oyster sauce. We ordered the plain padthai which was just simple enough to accompany the dishes we ordered. Our other dish was the Spicy Pork Shoulder and Roasted Rice, unfortunately we did not get the rice instead cabbage. The lime and cilantro in the pork gave us a ceviche like taste. We really enjoyed our food and will definitely return to this little joint in the hood.

NPS = 10! Hands down best Thai in Miami! This shop is small and unpretentious. The pad Thai? Second to none. Just make sure not to order it too spicy if you can't handle the heat! I don't think this place holds more than 15 people... And that's one of the things I love about it. Big things come in small packages. It is run by one of the nicest people you will ever meet and her son. As I spoke to the owner, she mentioned that one of hardest things is finding someone that cooks very authentic Thai. That shows she takes tremendous pride in her product. I've had the grilled tiger shrimp with lemon grass as well and it's one of my favorite dishes. The flavors are just so fresh that they make your mouth experience something it never has before. Whenever I am craving Thai, this is where I go. Definitely check it out!

Oh cake. I have to agree with my friend. If you had just been honest and said its going to be a long wait instead of 20 mins we could have A. sat at the bar at the home brew place a few doors down (see that review) and gotten so tipsy we wouldn't have noticed it took over an hour B. Grabbed a table at Sushi Siam, also a couple of doors down and with enough seats for 5 and vowed to come back later. I will say it was kind of our bad for listening to our friend who had eaten there before and failed to acknowledge that cake is more of a two and three seater affair. Take out seemed like a good idea instead but we weren't the only ones waiting. It's a typical take out set up but doesn't appear to be prepared for a high volume of orders. Prices were fair, delivery is 3 bucks but when you get your noodle dish, it's going to come out of the tin like it's been in the fridge overnight; all stuck together. I don't suggest the pad Thai tiger prawn but the pineapple rice was ok. Also, to the guy who told us we must get the soup. No. No we shouldn't. It was incredibly lemony and we didn't take more than a couple of spoonfuls before we said no more. And we were starving by the time the food was up. Seriously, we made a pact that night. When the best Taco Bell in town is right there on 79th street, just go there. In the end I have only myself to blame for this experience. A Miami New Times review was taped to the window, which should have been my first clue that I should skip it. Sorry MNT, but you guys ruin everything.
(3)Daniel E.
We ordered delivery and it was awesome. We had the pad tai, the pineapple rice and the tom kha soup. The delivery was fast and it was fresh from the kitchen. The total bill was about $45. I will order again for sure. Thank you!
(5)Gillian B.
Best Thai food I've had since Thailand! If you want to feel like you're eating authentic Thai, COME HERE! From the outside it's not much to look at but I promise, once you taste the delicious food inside, you'll be back!
(5)Cassandra E.
3 Food 3 Customer Service 4 Cleanliness 3 Ambiance In and out take out. I had Pad Thai (with tofu, which for some reason wasn't on the menu). I ordered Tom Kha Soup (with Chicken) for the bear (my boyfriend) along with beef in green curry. The food was okay, I ate it because I was hungry, not because it was out of this world. I'm not sure if I would come again. I had a few sips of the Tom Kha Soup and it had so many bones and lemon grass stalks in it that I could barely see any edible chicken or mushrooms that were supposed to be there. It was not the best Tom Kha I've had... The food preparation was quick. Once the delivery girl that got an attitude with me every time I asked a question about the menu left, the short wait was bearable and the restaurant seemed okay. There are not many seats inside, so my suggestion would be grab take out instead, especially if you have a big group.

HOLY FRIED PORK BELLY WITH CHINESE BROCCOLI BATMAN!!!!! Wow! I'm just simply blown away! So crispy and flavorful! Like a round house kick of flavor in your mouth! KA-POW!!!!! And we ordered delivery from this spot! Cake Thai Kitchen is now my new home away from home. Can't wait to try the Red Curry Crispy Duck next! People this place is legit!!!
(5)Joel C.
If you love authentic Thai food then Cake is the place for you! Drove at least 40 miles to try them out and it was well worth it. My cousin and I ordered the Crab rice which had chunks of REAL CRAB which surprised me because I was expecting imitation crab. I also ordered ribeye which was grilled to perfection. The food was amazing, and the waitress was very patient and kind. Definitely making another trip to Cake.
(5)Dahlia P.
The best Thai food in Miami, and the most authentic one, every time I visit I so great full for having this place that I wish they will never close. I go there always with my friend Tami which lived in Bangkok for three years and knows what to order and how it should test, amazing to make a long story short , just make sure you do not show up on Tuesday, the place is close. Trust me it's the best on this side of the world.
(5)Cherry P.
I wish I could rate it 4.5. I go to Cake about once a week. Sometimes it takes 30+ minutes to get your food, sometimes you ordered something you ordered last week and it's completely different, sometimes it's hot, it's always uncomfortably fluorescently lit with no restroom; who cares! It's delicious. BYOB, delicious food. Some of my favorites: green papaya salad (rank, salty, somehow irresistible dried shrimp in a super spicy fish sauce), tofu with green garlic, grilled pork shoulder with roasted rice, number 32?---pork shoulder/flat noodle/miso sauce, and anytime they have any morning glory specials. BTW, spice lovers rejoice! I made the mistake the first time I ordered of asking for extra spicy thinking it was white people Thai--not the case. Be warned. Thank god for Cake Thai---no Miami concept fancy twist weird bullshit. Just really good Thai food.

Hidden tinny restaurant in Biscayne Boulevard. By the looks of it you'd never imaging it is this good. Had the pad-Thai tiger prawn, fresh and spicy. Very Recommended z

I'm no expert on what "authentic Thai food" should taste like... but this shit IS GOOOOOOD. As fuhh. I had the pork belly with basil and I just couldn't stop eating. I had told myself I would only eat half and save the rest for later, but no. I ate it all. I had to. It was not too fatty and the flavors and seasoning were absolutely delicious. Every bite tasted like a hot treasure in my mouth. I don't even know what that means. I also ordered the Thai omelet and rice (I added pork) out of curiosity. I'm not sure if its supposed to be that way, but the eggs were VERY salty. Also, they forgot the pork (but still charged me for it). If you do order the pork belly, I would recommend ordering a side or rice. I used mine from the omelet and it tasted so much better. Will def be eating here again.

Came back for some take out and to try something new, I had the roasted chili paste squid with homemade salty egg. I enjoyed the mixture of flavors that this dish brought, salty with a touch of sweetness in the sauce and the salty egg wasn't overpowering which was one thing I was afraid of. The egg was pickled for the right amount of time. The chef was apologetic for the pad thai from my first visit and wanted me to try the pad thai again, he wasn't working in the kitchen the first time I went. I'm very satisfied with this Pad Thai it was flavorful and had the ground peanuts, something that was lacking with my first visit. Definitely give this place a try

I'm quite surprise to see the 4 star reviews. I walked into this place and walked right out because it smelled like a wet dog. It turned my stomach. I thought, well maybe it was that day so I went in again and sure enough, that wet dog smell. I'm giving it 1 star because it stinks, literally!

Let me begin by saying that the place is a total Dive and I would not have stopped there were it not for a friend's recommendation. Wow, was I wrong. For starters, parking is limited, so we parked at some meters on the West side of Biscayne Blvd. As we approached "Cake", we realized that the place is small and the it was packed. I don't recommend going with a group larger than four. If so, just do Take Out. We walked in and we're greeted right away. We were sat at a small plastic table, almost patio like, with mixmatched chairs. The customers at the table next to us were kind enough to tell us that they don't serve any alcohol at Cake, but there was a beer spot a few doors down and Cake customers frequent. You are allowed to BYOB! I placed my order, went over to the beer spot and picked up an assorted six pack. GOOD TIMES! We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, Crispy Duck and Red Curry Crispy Duck and Fried Crab Wontons. Everything was delicious. I happen to be a curry lover. It has to be the best, authentic, Thai street food that I've ever had. At the end of our meal, the owner came over and inquired about our visit. Needless to say, we were all smiles. I seriously recommend you get past the looks of the place and just sit down to enjoy the fantastic food.

Back for a second visit. No disappointment. Lunch was enjoyable and cooked to order - pad Thai with prawns and noodles with pork and black beans. Visit before it gets too busy for you!

My friend recommended cake giving it rave review, but After tonight I'll never trust him ever again. I'm pretty sure I might of said (****) is dead to me. I know I'm a little difficult or crazy when I get hungry but my cake experience was a bit different than his and it seems other reviewers on here. the genesis of my discontent comes down to a lie. Yes a lie ! Sure I might be over dramatic (Spanish soap opera music plays in the background as I look out the window seriously say anything standing and looking out of a window it's really dramatic ) but when I place an order and the server says after I give them my money "it will be ready in 20 min " and it's over an hr when i receive my food than I can't Trust you ever again. You are just a liar and our customer/restaurant trust circle is broken . What did I order ? (Shrug ) Was the food good ? who knows cause after an hr of waiting all I did was open up my mouth like a pelican and swallowed everything in a bite . I know I sound like some complaining Miami so and so but i suggest this alternate scenario instead of THE LIE as it is now known. Let's hop in the time machine our server says before we order "hey guys we are backed up, we are slammed with delivery and take out orders the kitchen is a little slow ". I would of been disappointed most likely would gone somewhere else cause you know I'm really hungry since that's my entire reason for being there but been happy they warned me appreciated their thoughtfulness and thought this place must be really good and made it a point to return at a later date, after THE LIE all I'm compelled to do is is blast them on yelp. My suggestion don't go on a Friday night I assume Saturday night is a no go as well who knows maybe Wednesday it gets particularly busy but don't come hungry and I don't know how their delivery service is but based on the kitchen speed place the order when you think you might be hungry. I read through a cake' reviews. It seem like the food is great. I wish I had taken a second to taste my food. An important part of a restaurant is not only the food but the customer service. In reality this review is for the management. "under promise and over deliver " you have a customer for life ;however, if you do the opposite people get angry or hangry in my case. In the future be up front with your customers. The place has great reviews obviously it's busy, but there are a million places to eat in this town so live up to the reviews. I end this review with a suggestion. if you are going or ordering take out/delivery take an emergency snack pack. A restaurant much like a tinder date only get one impression. So don't place a picture from 5 yrs ago on your profile and don't tell me it's only going to be 20 min you liar. You know it was a bad food night when at the end of the night you say " I shoulda just gone to Taco Bell"

Seriously delicious thai food! I can't speak from experience on their authentic factor, but the menu is pretty convincing! Can't beat the prices or flavors. Our waitress suggested the hydrangea tea, which was also delicious! Only a few tables inside, so on a Saturday night my friend and I got bumped a few times by close situated chairs...but I will certainly be eating here again! Next time I'll stick to delivery.

Best authentic Thai in So. Florida. Drove from Fort Lauderdale and can't wait to go back. Dress cool, there is only a wall unit for air conditioning, and the ceiling fans are not on. Bring your own drinks if you want beer or wine or you can buy them near by. Just a few tables, but the food was amazing. We had Fried Shrimp Wantons, Pad Thai Tiger Prawn, Spicy Rib Eye Southern Style, and Crispy Pork Belly and Chinese Broccoli. Desert was Mango Sticky Rice so yummy. DREAMING ABOUT WHAT I WILL ORDER NEXT TIME...
(5)Ruy R.
Tried the Crispy Pork Belly, Pineapple Fried Rice and Cashew Chicken. Pork Belly was delicious, really nice and crispy in a tasty sauce. The Cashew chicken was also very nice and crispy and delicious. I would recommend ordering a side of rice or fried rice since the meals are not served with a side. The Pineapple fried rice was phenomenal, loved the hint of curry in it. Service was great as well, very helpful and attentive. Overall great food and great experience. Will be visiting again.

Finally the best authentic Thai Restaurant in America! The son is the head chef and his mother handles customer service. The son's name is Cake, so voila! They only opened in September 2014 and I know they will get bigger! Every dish has fresh ingredients. For example, their sauces are made from scratch using tamarind, the basil, chili and other rubs make it into their dishes that bring you back to Bangkok. Forget every Thai restaurant you've been in Miami. This is a tiny place so don't expect any seating for more than 15! They say the best food come from hole in the wall type places. Cake is no exception. I loved their pad Thai, and Pork Belly dish, Tom Yum...choose something from The Wok. They're all Delish! After your meal, the taste lingers on. There's no MSG used. You can also ask other dishes to be made that is not listed on the menu. For instance, bring any meat or fish and ask them to make you something. You'll be blown away with their home feel customer service! This is the passion, expertise and craft of CAKE - a honest to goodness chef that will cook the best ever Thai food and leave you an impression to go back every day!
(5)Paula D.
The best Thai restaurant in Miami. If you're in town, don't waste your time with those other "Americanized" restaurants, come here. The flavors are the closest I can get to Thailand and from my mom's kitchen. They have food items you've never heard of, but a local of the streets in Thailand.
(5)Terri L.
This is THE REAL DEAL!!! If you're in the mood for fresh authentic Thai food this is the place to go. Not fancy, but your taste buds will be in heaven! Amazing fried rices, noodles... And the desserts are to die for,,,especially the Custard or Mango Sticky a Rice!!!! OMG!!! Thank you MAE!!!!!
(4)Andrew G.
This is as authentic as you can get! I even met the chef very nice guy he used to work at Makoto for 2 years. I order the spicy rice noodle pork tenderlion soup and it was in point service was great they take their time to make the food. I'll wait and have my food carefully made I hope this place stays with the authenticity of Thai food. I'll add this to my favorite places aside from Ricky Thai and Panya Thai
(5)Michael C.
This is truly a diamond in the rough! It's in the not-so-desirable part of town and the restaurant is not a whole lot to look at, but wait until you taste the food and that's where the diamond comes in! I am not trying to step on the feet of local Thai restaurants but most of them are sauce A plus meat B, if you are lucky enough you can get tofu. The food here transports you to Bangkok, all of a sudden. The grilled pork neck is amazing. The meat is easy to bite onto with a slight kick back to your teeth with a hint of charcoal taste. No gas grill here. It's a little know fact that the best meat from a pig is the neck because it's the most exercised part of the body. Imagine the pig is doing a famous blind African American singer/song writer imitation, singing and playing the piano all day long and turning his neck. Next we had the Panang Pork Belly Curry. Distinctive Panang Curry sauce over the melt-in-your pork belly. You can't get much better than that. The pan fry ong choi (a vegetable) with shrimp paste even had great wok chi when it came out. Not many Chinese and Thai restaurant can do that! The next dish we had was Rice wih Shrimp Paste, but my goodness (it's really goodness) it came with pan fried pork neck. The owner came over to let us know how to properly enjoy the dish that we should take a small amount of everything in the dish: pork neck meat, rice with shrimp paste, chopped raw green union scrambled egg and home-made salty egg yolk, and put all of the above in the mouth at the same time. The result was a symphony of tastes playing in your mouth gently! Nothing really explosive, it's classical rather than rock music!!! If you are looking for Sauce A with Meat B kind of Thai food, Cake Thai is not for you otherwise you'd on the shortest trip to Bangkok with no time zone changes and jet lag!

As someone raised in NYC I have always loved southeast Asian cuisine but it's extremely hard to find good (never mind authentic) Chinese, Vietnamese or Thai in South Florida. Cake is a bit of light in the darkness. It definitely presents as a hole in the wall and sometimes dives are the best places to get delicious food. I could eat here two or three times a week without fail and sometimes have since discovering the place two months ago. The ribs are AMAZING! The rice and noodles all have good seasoning and lots of spice. If you have a palate that values savory complicated flavors this place is not to be missed! I'm excited it's in my neighborhood for sure.

So much for a Miami Herald review. Getting take-out from this place for dinner was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. After reading a recent "raving" review in the Herald, I was psyched. Boy was I disappointed. First off, they use Eat24 which shields the restaurant from their actual calling customers (i.e. you cannot complain). We ordered the Tom Ka chicken soup. We felt we were eating through a forest of lemongrass. Nearly lost a tooth on a chicken bone. We ordered the pork belly in basil sauce. It was more like pork jerky. Overcooked to the point of become a chewy pork rind. Then, you stick the place in front of a busy not-so-safe-bus stop with plenty of beggars and stinky homeless people. Yeah, let's get take out from there again. Not. Still waiting for Eat24 to have them call me back. Nice move using their service to "interact" with your customers.

Cake is one of my favorite spots in town. It's a hole in the wall but the food is to die for. It's the best Thai food in town. Guaranteed. Im all about the full Thai flavor and this is as authentic as it gets. Cake is an AMAZING chef and this business is run by him and his mother (great duo). I've been coming here since the first month it's opened. The red curry crispy duck, the spicy ribeye, and the tiger prawn pad Thai are must-haves. The portions are a good size. Usually two dishes is enough for two people. I recommend coming with a group of people and share a couple dishes to get the fullest benefit. The tum yum tiger prawn soup is awesome and it's a big soup! My advise, be adventurous with your order. Don't stick to the boring fried rice and fried chicken. Curry is the way to go here. Oh! If you're in the mood for deserts you got to have the honey toast with coconut ice cream. Special order it- not on the menu ;)
(5)Robert G.
They made an effort to make good for the bad experience. I had another meal, and it was great. All restaurants make mistakes. They showed the ability to deal with a mistake. Good work. Try the restaurant--the food is wonderful.

I've been pretty upset ever since Tamarind Thai closed so I've been on the hunt for a new thai restaurant in Miami. While I have found some decent ones, CAKE is one of the most authentic thai places I've been to and overall the food was great. This no frills restaurant is not for those looking for ambience with your meal, but the food here is anything but simple. We started with sharing a Tom Kha Chicken soup which was one of the best I've ever had and it was a huge portion. The flavors were perfectly balanced and it was quite spicy which I like since the coconut milk can sometimes leave it too sweet. For our main dish, we got the Green Curry but asked for Tofu instead of Beef which they happily substituted for us. The curry was also excellent. One of the best I've had and there was a large quantity of a variety of veggies in the dish which was a plus for me. The tofu consistency was a little off but it was still good as long as it soaked in the sauce. :) I also got the Pad Thai Crab Meat. This fell short for me. I was disappointed because it was highly recommended to me by the chef so I thought it would be good but it was greasy and lacked flavor. Overall, I hope to come back and try several other things on the menu. I think that maybe this place has some growing pains still since it just opened in September but they seem open to substitutions and were helpful with helping us decide.

THE BEST THAI RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! I've traveled to Thailand and this reminds me of the food back there ! 100% come here and no where else lol
(5)Roland B.
Forget the no-frills decor, simple service and the limited seating, that's not the reason to come to Cake. The food is the only thing you should be looking forward too. Chef Phuket and his mother are serving amazing authentic Thai food, at good prices. Phuket will give you his recommendations, and I suggest you go with them. If are craving real Thai flavor, get yourself to Cake. Pickled bamboo shoot salad Crispy porkbelly with spicy basil

Delivery order arrived in around 45 minutes. First off, food was cold, which made no difference because it was disgusting. Not sure where other reviewers have had good thai before but this place doesn't deliver. "crispy tofu" yuck. rubberized cubes of what may once have been bean curd, arranged on top of uncooked, cut green beans, some red pepper slices and a barely there soy based sauce. tofu was like chewing a latex glove. Next up, roti. more specifically, their take on roti pratha. Nasty. greasy (not buttery) and tasted like burnt plastic. My guess is they buy the stuff frozen in bulk and heat it quickly. the "piece de resistance?" a very strange take on musaman curry chicken--a dish i've eaten around the world including thailand. this was not it. the dish consisted of a braised chicken leg quarter that was not cooked in the curry since it had no flavor on its own, surrounded by roasted, reheated, unpeeled potato wedges, and carrot chunks, which also were not cooked in the curry and had no flavor. then, get this! strewn around the container were black eyed peas! seriously?! the curry sauce was so sweet it made me wince! less than 3 minutes after i opened the bag, the entire lot of it was in the curbside garbage can in front of my home. literally $30.76 in the trash. ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE.
(1)Jeff R.
Delicious!!! The food is so good... Portions are larger than expected so dont order too much... I eat here at least once a week or order delivery...
(5)Omar G.
Ordered (correction for the sake of clarity): pork skewers (9), ribs (45), and green curry - my date had this, I tried it (56). Curry had the right flavors and seasonings; meat was a bit fatty for my taste. Appetizer (skewers) were a bit too salty, as were the ribs. Ordered thai tea; they were out, then ordered a sweet tea to be told the same, settling on water. Decor could use some work; matching tables will help. Its an off the beaten path place, which is interesting, and it is family run, which is nice. They are very hospitable people; perhaps I went on an off day? Worth a second try.
(3)Spring S.
Amazing authentic Thai dishes. Have had the pleasure of visiting Thailand twice and this restaurant takes me back to enjoying Thai cuisine.
(5)Robert R.
We loved it. The service was amiable and attentive. We had the Pad Thai with prawns. Best we've ever had. The fresh flat noodle with pork shoulder in thick miso sauce was a new dish we'd never tried and we loved that too. This place is authentic thai street food all the way. We didn't see a dog for blocks! Just kidding!!
(5)suwannee j.
Fabulous delishhhh. Excellent service. I'm a 100% native Thai from Bangkok. You can't get wrong with the restaurant where Thais go.
(5)Damian R.
Best hole in the wall in Miami. A must try is the pork belly dish! It was hard to communicate with the waitress since her english is poor but she tried her best and was more than helpful. The prices are reasonable and the food is so exquisite. Dont be thrown off by what this place looks like.
(5)Shoresman P.
I agree with Daryl M. I never had rough sex like this before !!! This Thai is absolutely amazing!! I had the crispy duck because the pork belly was sold out this evening. Everything is an explosion of flavor....I will definitely be back to this GEM.
(5)Denise N.
Love this place! Must try this spot, new up and coming Bangkok street food style in miami! The Chef is a humble guy with a wild and creative flare for food!
(5)Carla V.
This is a great place for take out...we tried the pad Thai and it was amazing!!! The staff was very friendly, they have great choices in the menu that definitely I need to try. We tried also the Tom kha soup and it was ok that's way I'm giving just 4 stars the taste was good but I'm not used to eat this soup with chicken bone and the skin I wasn't expecting that presentation. Other than this I recommend this place!
(4)Manuel F.
I can't say i've ever had authentic thai food, but everything i've ordered from this place so far has been phenomenal. I've been here on two separate occasions and ordered the spicy pork tenderloin soup and the spicy beef with noodle soup. Both portions were more than adequate and absolutely delicious. I will definitely come back.
(5)Lorena M.
Where do I begin with this nightmare. We ordered delivery from Eat 24 at 7pm and did not receive our order until 9pm. The food was not good.. I love shrimp and these were inedible.. Had a weird taste and texture. The pineapple rice was bland! The pad Thai noodles were clumpy and the dish was tasteless. The beef curry had good flavor, but there was very little beef. All in all we will not be ordering from here again...huge let down!
(1)Andrea S.
Went here for lunch based on the reviews... Had the chicken Massamum curry with white rice and it was really good! Shared it with my husband and it was plenty. When we went I was expecting to get the $8 buffet that others talked about in their review but they don't do it anymore. For a weekday lunch i thought it was a little bit pricey.... Will go back when I crave Thai food as it is far from my house but close to work!
(4)Fabrice C.
Great food, very authentic, lots of perfumes. Kind of expensive if you take out of the menu we were 3, ordered 1 soup and 3 dishes, 3 drinks 60$.
(4)Moon C.
Went there many times, it's A petite Thai cuisine on 79st Biscayne run but the humble mother and son. Food selection mixed between topical Thai restaurant and exotic Thai ---Inexpensive---
(5)Ang L.
If you haven't been, you're missing out. Order anything and you'll be happy. Amazing, authentic Thai food. We will definitely be back!
(5)Badili J.
Good for what appears to be just a hole in the wall take out place. The prices are very good.
(4)Jonathan L.
wow wow. Loved it. Chef hangout for life.
(5)Freya Z.
My husband and I ordered delivery from this restaurant based on some of the glowing reviews. Mainly Fred L who said this is the best authentic Thai restaurant in the US. Well he clearly is a friend or family member, because that is soooo far from the truth. First off, I think all of the food must be pre-cooked because nothing on the menu was customizable. Everything was SUPER greasy and did not taste fresh. Litarally the bag the food was delivered in was drenched in oil and it was all over the counter top. That is not normal for Thai food!! We ordered Chicken Tom Ka soup, Green Beef curry, Vegetarian Eggplant dish, and Tiger prawn Pad Thai. The flavors weren't horrible (except for the pad thai which had a horrible flavor), but everything was so heavy and just sub par. --Pad Thai: we asked for the bean sprouts on the side. The dish arrived with bean sprouts completely mixed in with the dish and some extra on the side. The sprouts that were mixed in were completely soft and mushy. The "tiger prawns" weren't tiger at all. They were regular-smallish shrimp with the head and shell still in tact. Even when I took the head off of one of them to eat the tail, it was completely mushy and tasted like what I imagine organs would taste like. I spit it out and couldn't even swallow it. Then when I tried the noodles themselves, they had that same nasty organ flavor. It didn't taste like any pad thai I had ever tasted!!! We literally threw the entire thing away it was so nasty. --Soup: it wasn't bad but it was the worst Tom Ka I've ever had. But being from California, maybe I'm spoiled. I was expecting more veggies in the dish, but only mushrooms and eggplant were in it. Also instead of pieces of chicken breast, there were 3 chicken wings in the container. WTH?! --Green curry Beef: There were 3 pieces of beef cut in long strips that were thick and tough. It was not enjoyable trying to eat the tough beef. The rest of the dish was similar in flavor and ingredients to the soup. If the meat was removed from both dishes, I wouldn't know which was which. --Eggplant dish (soft): There were pieces of tofu (?) fried beyond recognition in this dish. I didn't expect to find fried anything in the dish since I asked for the soft preparation instead of fried. The eggplant itself was fine, but the dish overall was underwhelming. One last thing to mention, is that if you decide to ignore this review and order from this place, rice is NOT included. The menu does not state whether it does or doesn't, and I assumed it did, but it does not. So order a side of rice as a side dish.
(2)Patrick D.
I ordered the pad Thai for delivery and it was nowhere near as good the second time. I wonder if they have a second cook who doesn't know what they are doing. I ordered it Thai spicy and got a big glob of red spices in the corner. My gf got the cashew chicken and her comment was it tasted like mall Chinese.. Great experience once but disappointed on my follow up visit. Also the delivery took an hour and 15 minutes on a Sunday at 3:15.
(3)R M.
Very good tasting authentic Thai food. The spicy dishes were strong but not overly done. I recommend the Tom Zab (beef soup) and Papaya Salad.
(5)Anna H.
Hole in the wall, hidden gem, foodies unite! Absolute BEST Thai food in Miami! Only con is the lack of space. So order to go and try EVERYTHING! The pineapple fried rice is my personal favorite!
(5)Andy W.
The crispy tofu was inedible. When I opened the box delivered by Eat24 I thought they had mistakenly given me a pork rind snack. It turned out to be the fried tofu with garlic sauce. There were half inch square pieces of tofu fried so much they looked like sponges and when bitten into sprayed oil. No veggies and sauce on the side. Disgusting. The Thai fried chicken was slightly burned on the outside and barely cooked on the inside. It was bone in with one leg, a wing, thigh and part of a breast. This dish was very greasy and again came with no vegetables. Very disappointing. We ordered two orders of rice at $2 extra each and it was so over cooked it was like mush. We couldn't eat it. We got a soup that I frankly was afraid to try. For $40 most of our dinner went in the trash and we were left hungry. For some reason Eat24 did a poor job on this delivery. I usually have good luck with them. The food was cold, but my cold food from Kings Chef is always good and half the price.
(1)Adam M.
I love everything having to do with this place. Spent a summer in Thailand and this is the closest your going to get. The small family restaurant is going to do amazing. Incredible place!
(5)Nazia S.
If I could give zero stars, I would. This order was an absolute disaster and disappointment. The delivery took about 2 hours, the restaurant lied about the driver making an attempt - when we called the driver, he didn't even know where our building was. The food was INEDIBLE. We ordered the pork, spicy tofu and crab pad thai. The tofu was NOT tofu, I have no idea what they used instead! The crab pad thai tasted rancid. Utterly disappointed as this could've been a great option for a lot of folks living in the downtown/omni/edgewater areas.
(1)David V.
run down place. But the food....oh man...the food took me straight back to the streets of Bangkok. Layers of flavors and textures wait to be discovered at this little unpretentious take out place where, if you wish to, can dine in as long as you don't mind plastic forks and paper plates. We went and are now officially hooked.
(5)Sophia R.
omg SO GOOD! I'm still thinking about it from last night. It's definitely a hole in the wall, mom & pop restaurant. Besides the most delicious Thai food ever, don't expect anything fancy. Be prepared for foam and plastic plating/utensils. It's one of those restaurants where no matter what you order, it's most likely going to be good. I loved the crispy pork belly w/ Chinese broccoli and eggplant miso chili paste tofu. Just note you have to pay extra for rice.
(4)Nicole P.
you may be thinking you aren't sure about this place judging on previous reviews but this place is delicious and authentic! the food tastes incredibly fresh and is full of wonderful flavors! yes order rice because even if it says rice on the menu lets just say its better to be safe then sorry! DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!
(5)Dora Y.
OMG OMF OMFG!!! no words!!!!! This place was BY FAR some of the best food I have ever had in my life! My husband and I used to come here when it was a small ghetto Chinese place that we were almost certain was definitely not kosher. For those familiar with Moko in Bal Harbour, one of the cooks has taken over the old ghetto Chinese place and ventured on his own to turn this place into the best authentic Thai cuisine I have ever had. As a matter of fact this is some of the best (if not the best) food I have ever had!!!!! I know this place is going to absolutely blow up and soon so enjoy the no wait while you can before the tourists take over! We had the shrimp wontons, pork belly skewers, pineapple rice, and garlic prawns. Every bit of food was amazing !!! We cannot wait to come back here again so we can try more!!!!!!!!!!!
(5)Michael V.
Excellent authentic Thai food. We ordered several items for delivery, all of which were fantastic! The delivery took quite longer than expected, but I guess that sort of comes with the territory of a new business. This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
(5)Victor m.
Very tasty food. Glad to have this new addition in our neighborhood.
(5)Gary R.
As good as any Thai food I've had in the U.S. If you're expecting the generic interchangeable menu found at 99% of U.S Thai restaurants, with a sushi bar off to the side, this is not your place. If you want some of the best Thai food outside of Thai Town in L.A or NYC, check it out. Now for what can be an issue for some. The ambience is rustic to say the least. There are about 6-7 tables, restaurant is kind of hot, and the food is served on disposable plates, also no ice for the drinks. We're bringing our own sport cups next time. I'm giving this place 5 stars purely on the food. We had the crispy black pepper duck, the eggplant with ground pork and a squid dish served in a light peanut sauce that was recommended. All were excellent! As an aside I have personally spent about 2 years in Thailand and have a better than average grasp upon what is authentic vs westernized. This place is very small in the middle of the block. DO NOT CONFUSE IT WITH RICE THAI ON THE CORNER.
(5)Unique H.
I don't usually right reviews but I just received the worst service from both Cake Thai and Eat 24 delivery. Ordering was smooth and pain free until I got my food. They delivered me the wrong food and when I contacted Eat 24 to correct the issue they said that the restaurant was too busy to remake and redeliver my food and would give me $5 off my order. The delivery fee on my $28 order was $5. So now I'm stuck with sub par and over priced food. Suffice to say I won't be ordering here again.
(1)Lena L.
I'm from Asia and have lived in New York this place is not your run of the mill American Thai place. Many of the things on the menu I haven't seen since my time in Asia. I ordered the shrimp pad thai, masaman chicken and thai chicken wings to start and none disappointed. The flavors are absolutely amazing. Can't wait to come back. Great thought in the menu. Don't let the outside fool you. This is an up and coming neighborhood and this is a great addition.
(5)Marc G.
I've been here 4 times. Every time I've been my food has been excellent and the best Thai food I've had in the states. The omelette is something you don't even find on most Thai menus but is a street food staple in Bangkok and the south. The papaya salad is spicy, sweet, crunch, and salty. Did I mention spicy? I've loved the numerous pork dishes I've had. My most recent was the crispy pork bell in spicy basil sauce. The basil was delicious, you could taste the depth of flavor, the pork was nice and crispy but not overcooked. It could have been a little spicier I thought though. The only dish I haven't loved here was the pad thai. It was a little more savory than what I had experienced in Bangkok, but I can't even say that I didn't like it. Also, if a dish doesn't say it comes w/ rice, it doesn't come with rice so you'll have to order it for an extra $2.

Excellent food. My group split the pork shoulder skewers, Red curry crispy duck, Spicy roasted duck with shallots and Egg plant with miso chile paste. Everything was delicious. The pork was tender, the duck managed to stay crispy while smothered in the curry and the eggplant and roast duck dishes were simply amazing. The lady who served us was very friendly and informative about all of the dishes and the chef came out to check on us as well. We had an amazing experience and i would recommend the food to anyone.

Food was excellent. Crispy pork belly with spicy basil sauces was just right - spicy but not crazy spicy. Cake is our new go to place. The downside is that the interior is small and they made little effort with the decor. Better to get the food to go or get it delivered. If Cake upgraded their space, there would be lines out the door.

I was anticipating trying Cake as we live close by and I love Thai food. I don't know about authentic because I've never been served a pieces of breaded fried chicken breast on any Thai dish I've ever had. The flavor wasn't bad on the cashew chicken but I just couldn't get over the pieces of breaded fried chicken, it also had hardly any sauce in the dish. We ordered Chicken Fried Rice as well and it came with the same piece of breaded fried chicken on top not mixed into the rice. We were very disappointed by this place and will not be back.

If you want real Thai street cuisine made by real Thai people, this is it. Very flavorful and authentic. Some of the bad reviews seem to be from people who don't get it, this is not a place for delivery. This is a hole in the wall place where most of the pleasure is derived by sitting at the bar and ordering the food in the moment. It's also meant to be eaten that way. If you want delivery, go next door to Siam Rice, they have your generic flavor Thai, I used to order from there all the time. But satisfaction comes from the authenticity, spices and the love this family puts in to this place. When it comes to Thai food, Miami has arrived and this place takes the cake!

Very authentic and delicious! Not your run-of-the-mill menu, fabulous selection with all Thai favorites uniquely prepared plus lots more exotic options. So many flavors with, fresh, excellent quality ingredients. Large portions. Fine gourmet food at very reasonable prices. Can't wait to try all the dishes.

Be cautious with the first 20 or so reviews on a restaurant. They tend to be left by friends and family. This place is far from authentic and far from 4 or 5 stars. There are some decent Thai flavors, but it feels like the food was prepared by some college kid based on some online recipes. The chicken soup is made with all chicken wings, bones, skin and all. Besides the wings the soup was full of hard, unchewable lemon grass that felt like your were eating cane. The beef green curry didn't taste like any green curry I had, it had large chunks of ok quality beef (not Thai style cuts) and uncooked chunks of eggplant. It looked more like a soup than a curry. The Eggplant Tofu dish was ok, but the tofu was fried to death and was very greasy. The Prawn Pad Tai was downright nasty. What they called prawns were medium size shrimp with tails, heads and some of the shell still on. I de-shelled one, the inside was mushy and very bad tasting (was not fresh). We asked for the bean sprouts on the side, they came well mixed in with the super greasy noodles. Two of the containers arrived crushed, everything in the plastic bag was soaking in grease. Delivery time was 1 hr 20 mins.
