We sat at the bar and the moment we sat down it was time to let the good times roll. The first thing we did was "sake bombs". I am sure every Japanese restaurant says "f%ck" when they see this happening in their restaurant. Even with us acting like drunkards, the service never dipped and remained excellent though out the night. After a few rounds of sake bombs, the food started to roll out. We began by all sharing the Octopus and Seaweed Salad. I must admit I never had Octopus and had a clean slate on my expectations. My first bite in and I immediately became a fan. It was delicious. Their Seaweed Salad is just about what I expected and was made right, but it was not a standout. As for my main meal, I am on a no rice diet, so I decided on the three fish Sashimi. The Salmon and Tuna were fresh and cut perfectly, while the white fish I had with the other two was a little on the chewy side. Akashi knows what they are doing and both locations leave me wanting to return. After getting a nice buzz and filling our stomachs, we thanked the chefs for a wonderful meal and it was time for the heavy lifting drinking.

I've lived in the Grove most of my life and consider myself able to really give an honest review of this place. They recently closed their doors under the claim of "renovation" but a few days ago I saw they were open and wanted to see how they might have improved the already not so great venue with the hope that they will finally turn that around. Sadly I was extremely disappointed, upon walking in I saw nothing had changed which lead me to believe there was a more sinister reason for their doors closing for a bit :/ and the use of renovation as an excuse. The food the people a few tables over from us claimed they couldn't eat a roll because it tasted off and I admit I didn't touch the mayo after it tasted a bit off on my plate as well before I even heard them complain and send it back. My boyfriend felt a bit ill after eating there that night. Akashi has never been a GREAT place but it is a cheap place if your on hard times because the grove as far as food is pretty expensive if your on a budget.. My attitude tho has changed to not visiting this place ever again for fear of health risks. The place is pretty filthy if you look at their bathroom even.. It was pretty gross with the seat up and piss everywhere.. Looks like no one cleans it regularly.. Counter was pretty dirty too. You now have been warned by someone who has gone there for years.. And I now will cease to go there ever again.

I LOVE the Alex #2 Roll. Best roll I've had in a long time. They also have the best tasting fried rice EVER! Gotta give this place a try, you won't regret it :)

What are people thinking to give this place more than 2 stars? It is a total rip-off. For the same price, you get much better quality sushi and much better ambiance at Matsuri. We had the sushi/sashimi combo for two at Akashi. Yes, it's a lot of food. But almost half the meal is imitation crab: two imitation crab handrolls, two imitation crab California rolls, two imitation crab nigiri and then some low-grade tuna and some mushy white fish. The food here is about comparable to supermarket sushi.

I went to Akashi with a group of friends upon arriving in Miami after a 6 hour drive! We were all craving sushi, and very hungry--the kind of hungry that makes everything in sight look and smell good. This was the first sushi place we happened to stumble across. It had cute tables outside and welcoming servers, so we thought this place would be a good choice. Where do I begin? The rice around the fish was awful. It had a terrible wet gummy texture that almost seemed like some kind of cheap rice knock-off paste! The seaweed around the rice was leathery, and in no way could be accused of being fresh and crisp. I thought maybe the fish inside would be good if I could remove the rice and seaweed, but, it wasn't good either. It wasn't rotten, but it wasn't fresh. It had a slight odor. Not good. Being raised Catholic, I feel guilt at the thought of wasting food. If I don't eat everything, I will always take my leftovers home to eat later. This has been the only exception I can recall. I walk by this place and gag at the memory of the worst sushi I have ever eaten, Night after night, I see people eating there and wonder why. If you are looking for good sushi, don't come here.

Typical sushi, Octopus was on point though, I'd come here again. I'm from the Bay where we hyphy and go dumb, but we visited Miami and were craving some sushi. Our boy Richard K. took us here, and the food was good. The service was good. But at the end of the day, it just wasn't something that made the trip memorable. However, they do have AC and that's something you need in the Miami heat (not the basketball team).

Im so dissapointed to say but Akashi really dissapointed me the last time i came. The sushi wasnt as good and neither was the service. I'll be sticking to sushi saki when i get a craving.

Rudest service I've had in Miami so far. It put me and my date in a poor mood the entire dinner. The sushi was okay but could not make up for the rotten experience we had. Not worth your time

Hands down the best sushi in Miami. The food is always fresh, rolls are perfectly done and the food is great. Staff is super friendly always. Sit at the bar for the full experience and chat with the sushi chefs. The south Miami is my fav location, but when the weather is nice, the grove is lovely. OPEN LATE!!!

Akashi in C.Grove is AMAZING! Sushi doesn't get any better than this place! You can sit outside and bring your pooch. The Alex 2 roll is the best roll I've ever had. My husband and I love this little gem and eat here at least once a week. To us, the one in S.Miami is just too crowded, but equally as good. And on a plus, they deliver!

I love Sushi and Akashi is by far and away my favorite. They opened this location about a year ago, before that i went to SM location all the time, This place is walking distance from my house now!!! Happy coincidence. The food was delicious. Sat at the bar and got excellent service. If you go you must try the Tuna Tartar, WOW! I had chirashi with brown rice, always yummy, but dare i say almost too much food. Love this place, I will be walking back real soon!

Nice outdoor seating in a 1920s old Miami courtyard, but our food was disappointing in taste and appearance. Ordered several rolls of which only the veggie was tasty. Spicy tuna roll covered with yucky ketchupy looking sauce was inedible. Not coming here again.

I just moved to Coconut Grove and didn't know the area at all. My friends and I were checking out our new neighborhood and happened upon this cute little sushi place with outdoor seating. This is where the complements end. We were so hungry so we ordered the edamame, it was cold and unsalted. The sushi was not fresh and was slathered in what I'm guessing was kimchee sauce. I've honestly never left a sushi place with most of the sushi left uneaten on the table.

I come here all the time, the service is ok and the food is sometimes really good or sometimes not so good. its a hit or a miss. id rather go to the akashi by sunset place but since this one is closer i come here. I recommend Alex #2, shrimp steamed dumplings, or the Shrimp Fried Rice... yum

  • Natassia M.

I couldn't believe it when I saw this place had low reviews! I'm a sushi fanatic and this is my favorite sushi restaurant in Miami. My favorite rolls are the Alex #2 and the South Miami... Their Tuna Tar tare is phenomenal also!

Been to over 30 Sushi restaurants in miami and this is the best by far. It used to be Shibui but they went down in quality. Get Alex 2 and some sashimi.

Let me start with this: I love Sushi. I wouldn't consider myself a snob in regards to this by any means, but I feel like I have sampled a large enough variety to be fairly knowledgeable in my criticism. I have enjoyed lots of sushi during a couple lengthy stays in Japan, in NYC, all the way down to assemply line Publix and buffet sushi. More often than not, it's delicious. This place was by no means delicious. The rice was mushy and totally devoid of flavor. No yummy sweetened rice vinegar goodness. And let me say this: KimChee sauce is not "hot sauce" or "Spicy sauce" Also kimchee sauce should not be slathered over tuna rolls like gravy. Disgusting. Use sriracha (rooster) like basically any other place. I will be in Miami a while, and I would have frequented this place if it was at least palatable. Luckily, found another joint a couple blocks down that was absolutely delicious. Won't be returning to this place.

Great location in the heart of the grove when out and about. Food was fresh and the spicy tuna roll was amazing. Would have given 5 stars except service could have been better. Definately worth it..

So I know it seems I have been reviewing a lot of sushi bars lately and that maybe all I eat is sushi, but truth be told, I am just on a health kick and trying to shed a few pounds before my summer (read- food fest) vacation. That being said, last night we decided to try out the Akashi in the Grove upon the owner's suggestion when we saw him at the South Miami location on Sunday. He had told us about their happy hour specials from 5-8PM or maybe it was 6-8PM and that there would be live music in the patio. Unfortunately, we did not make it in time for happy hour, but the live music was still going on. It was a nice touch, but the man was playing Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Bob Marley....not exactly sure it matches with sushi ya know what I mean? The outdoor patio area is nice- and boy was it packed! Not one table was empty! In fact, inside, the sushi bar inside and tables (there's only the bar and maybe a table or two inside) were full too! The service was good. At first I was waiting for my husband and his best friend to meet me there and after they got there it took a little long for them to have their drink order taken, but I think it may have just been that our server didn't realize they had arrived yet? Anywho, after that little wait our server was spot on--going back and forth and bring us every sauce we'd forgotten to ask for when she'd just gotten back with another. The sushi was great too! I noticed that the South Miami staff was on hand, so maybe that's why my sushi was so well prepared in comparison to the review below? I actually deviated from the Alex #2 and shared the Part Time Roll with the table- let me tell you- this roll rivals the Alex #2- so yummy! My Tuna tetaki was also very fresh. We will definitely be back to this Akashi...and maybe the next time we'll actually make it for happy hour. I'm interesting in seeing what specials they offer! Honestly, if eating healthy and losing a few pounds means eating Akashi every week, then I don't mind "dieting" at all! ;o)

I've only been to this place once and had a good experience with the food. It was delicious! Then again, I've only been here once. The service was eh. The place itself is very small, so don't plan on having a big group there! I may go again... we'll see.

Despite the identical menu, the second Akashi location does not meet the high standards set by the original. Sure, sometimes at the South Miami location you'll find yourself in a room of screaming frat boys and general Canes fans throwing back some sake bombs, but the food is always pretty decent. It's loud, but good. Not here, no sir [or ma'am]. The sushi was bland and ill-prepared. The tables were sticky, which was pretty pretty gross. I split a Spider Temaki, Spicy Tuna Roll, and a Rainbow Roll. The first item was delicious, but the latter two were a major disappointment. The Spicy Tuna Roll was DRENCHED in a kimchee sauce, which is not so much spicy as it is unpalatable. The Rainbow Roll fell apart, as a) the california roll was not rolled tight enough, and b) the sashimi was awkwardly plopped on top in all different sizes. The fish was warm to boot. The service was good though. If you're in the grove and craving some sushi, it'll hit the spot, I guess. But, if you're fiending for sushi and willing to drive... don't go here.

If I were famous and had just been served the sushi I had, I would have thought that I was being punked. But I'm not famous, so that means I just had a really, really terrible sushi. Not just terrible, but TERRIBLE. The sashimi was warm and the fish inside of the rolls seems to have....I don't know how to explain it. It was as if someone with bad dentures made a pass at chewing some raw fish, then gave up halfway through. The half-chewed morsels were then half-assed stuffed into a roll. Gross. And covering warm tuna and rice with a pool of kimchee does not make it a spicy tuna roll. Not fresh, not tasty, and not worth the money. I felt dirty after eating here.

Had a custom spicy tuna roll - inside out w/ avocado on top. It was yummy. Service was good. Akashi is the best sushi place in the Grove.

  • Ashley A.

I've eaten at the South Miami location for years but never managed to find my way to this place until last month. Dare I say the food was even BETTER than in south miami? Maybe it was the fact that my waiter (complete with running shoes and headband) was hustlin' like a mofo to get me every ridiculous little thing I needed during my meal. The food was delicious, the drinks were great, and the weather was terrific for a dinner outdoors. It looks like the inside is tiny and cramped, and i'm pretty sure they've got a one-seater bathroom, but i've seen worse. Being in the grove, I guess, and a trendy, popular place to eat sort of determines a demographic for this place. I'm pretty sure at 25 I was the oldest patron there, but i'm sure if I waited for 10P to roll around everyone would have had to go make curfew and I would have had the patio to myself. Maybe next time...

Great sushi. Our favorite is Alex 1 and Alex 2. Try the one, that is located at Coconut Grove. The one, that is on US 1 at Sunset is always crammed and VERY noisy.

Thanks for starting out my long weekend in Miami with serious stomach problems. I think your sushi on Friday 1/15/2010 was not fresh! Will never go back!

I am shocked that this restaurant has received below average reviews! Years ago, while the sushi craze in Miami was all centered around Miyako, my best friend's father was loyal to Akashi in South Miami. I finally went and never once, by choice, went to another sushi restaurant. Their sashimi is cut perfectly-- thin and fresh, their portions are just enough, and their rolls are classic, but if you're feeling daring, they have all the fish and all the fixings to make your own roll. When I'm really hungry, I order the Lady's finger, which is a sushi/sashimi/roll combination that is half the size of the normal combination plates, with the sushi cut in half to make it more "lady-like." The owner, Larry, is always at the S.Miami location, and takes good care of his customers. Check it out, it's worth a try.

  • Phoebe L.

Hey, I'm not complaining! I love sushi, and in LA it's easy to get good, inexpensive sushi. Not so in Miami! But Akashi does the deal. Had the special for two. Top stuff. Impressed! They know how to cut sashimi, and it was very fresh. Any place that does a special for two that includes more sashimi than rolls is a good one in my book. Also, the uni they serve here is incredibly high quality and delicious!

A friend and I wandered over to Akashi on a Friday night. We got there pretty early so we didn't wait for a table. We sat at an outdoor table which was refreshing because of the good weather. The staff was very friendly and attentive. When we told them we were waiting for my husband to arrive, they didn't give attitude and just kept the Saki coming. The Alex Roll is a must have and the dumplings were good, too! They were out of their banana tempura which my husband desperately wanted to try for dessert. So, we had the Thai donuts instead, YUM!

We were visiting from CA and we are kind of Sushi snobs but I was happily surprised by great service and variation on the sushi rolls that were a little different than what we get in our neck of woods. Great service and good food, can't complain and I would definitely come again. Cheers!

To start, I would give the original Akashi 4 stars. service in the Grove location is NON Existent. We sit down and menus placed in front of us and before our waitress could scurry away, I asked for Ice water. "Yuh" was her low energy, barely audible response. Whatever. I grew up in the grove and have been to this location dozens of times. We were ready to order. 8:30pm. Thursday night. Party of 3. The patio is full and it seems like our waitress is the only one working outside. Again, not a big deal. I wanted my Americanized, Miami'id out sushi rolls. 10 minutes later, no service. Tables around us who arrived later had appetizers already. We wait 5 more minutes and get up. Our waitress is in the middle of the courtyard, 10 feet from our table with her back turned to us about to go inside the restaurant. Didn't check on us - nothing. We left, pissed off. Obviously we were a burden to them, and we gave our business elsewhere. Recap: Feeling ignored at a restaurant is the worst feeling. Hey OWNER OF AKASHI: Train your wait staff in customer service, because our waitress never said a word to us except a lazy "yuh" when I asked for ice water before waiting for 15 minutes and leaving.

Woah! Kinda surprised at all the bad reviews for Akashi in the Grove. This is our go-to spot for sushi and sake dates these days because we can sit outside and our pup is very welcomed here. I'm not going to say its the best sushi I've ever had, but I have never left dissapointed, and service is usually on point! I've actually been here many times and I think maybe once, our server disappeared... but I can barely remember that because of all the other times I've been and we usually have not just one waitress come to our table, but the owner or another person will usually stroll by and ask if we need anything. Our usual order consists of the Jalapeno Roll - if you love spicy, this is really good. We also like their twist on the spicy tuna roll. Yes, it comes with a sweet & spicy sauce drizzled over the top of it - it gives it a unique and different taste than your usual, average spicy tuna roll, but it's good! The other roll we like is the Alex #1, its more simple than #2 and its pretty delicious in my opinion. The sashimi appetizer is a fair amount of (fresh!) sashimi after we've ordered the other 3 rolls and 4 large sakes! We are stuffed and satisfied every time! And again, our fur baby gets treated nicely. They bring him water and he gets to hang out and people watch with us. My disclaimer is that I am not a sushi snob/connoisseur, I haven't taken a 3 course sushi class, I am not a sushi chef, nor a geisha in disguise... but I do love sushi, sashimi and sake.

This is my go-to sushi place in Miami. It's the best bang for your buck. I'm never disappointed with the quality of food or service I receive here. For this location, just know that they don't really have an inside - only two tables. The majority is outdoor seating! Favs include: tamago, Alex #2, tuna tartare, and (IMO) the best kani su in the city.

Sorry, but I just was not impressed. My friend and I desperately sought a dining option in the Grove when Bombay Darbar had a huge wait, and after walking around, we fell into the "whatever will do, at this point" trap of desperation. I had seen Akashi's reviews were quite high, so this further cemented the idea that perhaps this was a good choice. Since it was a cool 62 degrees, we decided to sit outside. It was much more quiet than the inside, and it'd give us a chance to people watch. As we opened the menu, we exclaimed, almost in unison "wow, it's not cheap." I guess this is expected of the Grove, with the exception of bar grub, and maybe some of the small taquerias. The only somewhat affordable option we found was the Teriyaki chicken at $16, so we both ordered that. It came with a soup or salad, so I got the salad, while my friend got the soup. When the main courses arrived, we were underwhelmed. We both expected more than just some strips of chicken with a sweet Teriyaki sauce on top, like oh, I don't know...some carrots perhaps? Cabbage? Broccoli? I have ordered Teriyaki chicken at other Japanese and Asian fusion spots and they always had something more than just chicken. The chicken was also somewhat charred in spots and was dry. I'm no cook, but I felt I could put together something like this or even better. Service was quite attentive, but the food just didn't make a great impression. Next time, we'll just drive a couple of miles for a worthier choice.

The sushi here is mediocre. I'd rather buy sushi from Publix. The menu isn't diverse. Most rolls have a variation of fried seafood, avocado and mayo on top. I'd advise you check out any other sushi restaurant before eating here. We came to sit outside and eat dinner, but the umbrellas are dirty and there isn't any ambiance. I wouldn't recommend.

Best sushi in town! Sashimi sliced thinly. Rolls are fresh, perfectly bite sized and service is great!!!

  • Farrah S.

This is a "miami sushi" restaurant. What exactly does that mean? It means a sushi restaurant where the traditional Japanese flavors are masked with cream cheese, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and avocado. If this is your idea of sushi, then this is your place. We had the sexy mama roll, and dan's roll, which were tasty, but over indulgent. The service was virtually nonexistent like most sushi places in Miami. Prices are affordable. Would come back again, but it is not in my sushi top 5! Service: 2 Food: 3 Cleanliness: 3 (dingy menus, sub par cleaning of tables) Price: 4(affordable) Ambience:2 (loud students when I was there. Small place) Overall: 2.8/3

Super unimpressed by everything here. My expectations were very high going here as I heard it was the best sushi spot in Miami.. and I consider myself a sushi connoisseur. Also this place was packed on a Monday night so I figured I was missing out on something great. Unfortunately the sushi was below par... well below par. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, and it came with some weird hot sauce on top. When we asked to return the roll we were unable to. Also the service could have been much better.. I'll keep looking for the best sushi in Miami because it definitely was not here.

We came here today for a work lunch and the food and service was good. We were a group of 8 and were easily accommodated outside on the patio. Food was good, we got a bunch of different appetizers to share for the table. Sushi rolls are different than the usual and also really good, I recommend the mermaid roll or Alex #2.

Just as delicious as the original but with the outside seating in the grove, this has become my preferred Akashi location. Highly recommended! Alex #2

Alex #2 it's definitely my favorite, the fish is fresh, the sashimi and the sushi is really good! unfortunately the service is big NO NO NO! I also called for delivery and it was really bad, I don't recommend anyone to try their delivery food, the fish was not fresh and with an awful smell!

    (3)
  • Jason P.

Recommendation: get the Alex #2 -- it's by far the best thing they offer and it compares well with sushi from all my favorite places. On a side note -- they have great gyozas too & they aren't grossly overpriced like most places. The fried rice is well below average and the menu isn't all that diverse. Everything seemed to be variations of each other. I can't think of many places I'd skip to come here.

    (1)
  • Roger A.

I prefer the location on US1. Ordered the tuna tartare and added cucumbers. Really good. Could have used a little more kick from the kimchee sauce. Also got the Dane #2, rolls were a bit on the small side but tasted good. It's an option among the many places to eat that are available in coconut grove.

Food was 5/10 Service was 1/10 Menu was confusing and misleading Probably won't come back Prices are Coconut Grove standard.

Very disappointed of the delivery service. I made the mistake of not asking how long it would take. I ended up picking up my order. I had waited over an hour already, when I called they told me i had to wait 1.5 hour more. They told me they only have one driver available. The food was as expected, not as good as Sushi Joe, Shibui, and others, but it was good. That was my only choice based on my location.

A couple of friends told me about Akashi and told me I had to check it out. I went in with high expectations and they were definitely fulfilled. I ordered the tuna tartar to start and it was fresh and delicious. Then I got the famous Alex 2 roll and was extremely satisfied. Definitely recommend to check it out

When I first moved to Miami nearly a decade ago, my friends and I used to eat at the original Akashi location like it was our job. Since a good friend now lives in the Grove, I've found myself frequenting this Akashi location, but for me the luster and shine of their food has worn a bit dull. Maybe it's the fact that my tastebuds have grown and matured over the past 9 years. Maybe it's that there's just so much great sushi in town these days. Maybe it's all in my mind. But Akashi isn't the 5-star worthy experience I wish it still was. While takeout or delivery is usually the norm for this location, they have quite a few seats, mostly outdoors. But for some strange reason, there is not a single fan to be found on the premises. When most of your seating is outdoors and it's beyond muggy for a good few months out of the year, I'd consider fans a wise investment. But that's just me. The prices are still very reasonable - with 3 rolls and a couple of appetizers, we're usually quite content for $50-60 total. Don't get me wrong, Akashi serves up some good sushi with some interesting roll combos, but for me, the "wow" factor isn't there.

  • Steve H.

If you want sushi...ya know, raw fish, either with rice or not with rice,, served in a way that focuses on the flavor of the fish...keep on movin'. Maybe if you are into rolls with cheese and fried stuff and a bunch of sauce or something, I dunno...but I ordered a couple classics (tuna roll, a selection of sashimi, salmon roll) and MAN this is some bad sushi. Everything was dry and flavorless. I'm not super snobby, but nigiri should have a bit of wasabi between the rice and the fish. The rice itself should have a bit of vinegar to give it some taste and texture. It's not 1 star because it wasn't a catastrophe, the staff is friendly and the food was edible. But I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

  • R Z.

just ordered 100 bucks worth of this garbage from postmates. It came pretty quickly, but the quality of the fish was so low, and smelled so bad, that after a couple of bites I decided I couldn't go on. Last time I tasted tuna tataki like that, I got food poisoning. This place is disgusting. I ate the salad and the miso soup, and took the rest out to the garbage immediately.

Fresh fish, awesome staff, and great atmosphere. Like most reviewers I had the Alex #2 and loved it! You will not be disappointed. Had some Sake bombs with hot sake and Kirin. Just be careful when sitting outside in the courtyard since it gets very hot.

I went to Akashi on the recommendation of a friend who said that it was a good hole-in-the-wall. The restaurant is certainly small, but it provided a good environment in which my friend and I could talk. As for the food, it was nothing mind-blowing, but I was satisfied. My friend and I ordered many things and two types of rolls, all of which were well-prepared and tasty. Despite the adequate flavor and portions, this is a place I would use as a lunch place rather than an exquisite sushi experience.

I love the suchi. We started with spicy conch & then to 4 diferent suchi. Have a big selection of all Japanese food.super fast, fresh delicious food, & great service. Definitely recommend and will be back. Great selection on sake

I love. I'm visiting my friends and they said that this place was all that. Well we ordered to-go and -- never in my life have I had a restaurant recommend a more reasonably priced option for me- and they did just that. I had ordered some sashimi and they said "you should just get our special vs. ala carte" -- now you might be reading this going, "well this woman doesn't know enough to look at the specials...." you are right. Either way, they were very nice, very accommodating and the food was GREAT. Very generous seaweed salad portion and salmon sashimi special. I will order from them INFINITI. ;-)

Alex #2 roll was delish! Seaweed salad was so fresh! Such a small place and everyone is sitting so close together but other than that really enjoyed my food.

My friend Jessica practically grew up hanging out in The Grove part of Miami and this is where she would frequent. Akashi is a true little sushi gem. It is located off the main road and has a wonderful spread of outdoor seating. We split a bottle of sake and had my friends favorite dish which is their tartar. It was soooo good! Rolls are also very tasty and fresh. Alex roll is definitely the favorite. Lots of cool places to walk to after your meal.

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all. They made us wait for 45 minutes for a roll. When I asked for the manager he was out and none of the waiters were any help. After an hour I asked to cancel my order and walked across the street to a great Spanish restaurant.

Wonderful staff especially at the bar . I came into the restaurant and was immediately greeted by servers and staff. The bar chef was super friendly and even taught me how he makes sushi rolls. Which then I devoured with in minutes because it was so tasty. I will definitely be coming back . This was some of the best sushi I have had in a while :)

I've eaten ok sushi before but sushi here is simply bad. As other reviewers mentioned, the algae/seaweed wrap is too thick which makes it hard to chew. Overall, the restaurant isn't up to the standard to be called Japanese restaurant

The food is pretty good, the atmosphere is very casual. Service was good, somewhat perfunctory.

Really bad sushi. The algae used was thick and hard. Roll was small and the fish not fresh at all

Missing one star because the service isn't the best but it's not the worst.... But the place is beautiful (small) and food... Oh my... It. Is. Amazing!!!! Love it :)

Got the Boston roll. Seaweed salad and miso soup. Everything was very fresh and it was nice to sit outside for lunch and people watch.

The seating outside makes this place a really fun spot to have dinner in the Grove. Personally I have never even thought about going inside. This location is way better than South Miami. Famous for the Alex Roll! Wish there were more combos or maybe some more specials.

Really like this place. I ordered delivery and the brought a portable CC machine so you can split checks if you please. They are pretty fast. I haven't eaten in the restaurant but their celery was good.

Sushi is high grade, very fresh and nicely presented. The delivery service is awful!!! This was the second time that we order delivery in a one week time frame and an hour and half later (1 1/2) later it still had not arrived. WE advised the young man that took the order that we had experienced a two hour wait last time and he assured us that they had experienced a lot of orders at the same time and were short staffed (the first time we faced the delay). We afford them another opportunity and were very disappointed to order delivery at 8:30PM from a restaurant that is literally a few blocks away from our residence and not receive the order till after 10:15PM. If you don't have the staff to offer delivery than advice your customers because we will not order again until we are assured that you could provide the service that you offer. Very disappointed!

Wasn't sure what to order here so I went to my Yelp app on the good ol' iPhone. Alex 2 roll it was. It looks really nice. Shrimp tempura with crabmeat, cream cheese (I opted out of that), avocado, and wrapped with brown rice (my request) and crispy outside with spicy mayo drizzled over the outside. Well......it was just ok. Loosely packed so it fell apart. Kind of bland too. I took some of my friend's wasabe. I asked the waitress for some ginger. I'm still waiting for it. (yeah, only 3 tables inside, and no waitress to be found)

Food is delicious, service Meh, they take to long to give you the check. You have to try Cold Sake.

My little sister's fave restaurant. Adequate service. Average looking interior and exterior. The Alex 2 roll is a MUST HAVE! And if you're into green tea, their iced green tea is very yummy :)

First time at this Akashi and had a good experience. I love the outdoor seating and the pet friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Between my friend and I we ordered the miso soup, avocado roll, steamed shrimp shumai, Spicy Tuna Roll and Bagel Roll. Everything tasted fresh and the portion sizes were just right. A great hangout place in the heart of The Grove.

Outdoor & indoor seating, attentive & friendly service, fresh & appropriately priced, generously portioned sushi-- the best I've had in Miami thus far!

An overlooked and underrated gem in the Grove. Delicious rolls (try the Alex roll), friendly service, good prices...what's not to like? Great for a quick pre-movie dinner.

Not the greatest joint. Vibe wasn't great the night we went last year. We sat at the bar so it felt a little tight. The bar itself looked like it was barely cleaned. Something was missing in terms of flavor with the rolls. One of the rolls I ate was their eel roll and it had BONES! A huge no no!!! Not coming back.

We hit this place up often if we are ever in the grove. We have never had a complaint. The service is consistently good and the food is always on point. We love getting little dishes here and the sushi is always fresh. Recommendations: Shrimp shumai, Beef Negimaki, Spicy Octopus, Tuna Tataki, Alex #2 Roll, Dynamite Roll, and South Miami. The service is good, and always accommodating. I'm excited for this place to come to Brickell.

My husband and I have been to this location several times. The food is always great, but the service never is. They deliver in our area, but we've never wanted to take a chance with a wrong order since they are located only 5 minutes away. We usually just place our order and pick it up 15 minutes later. I'd rather deal with having to drive there than the bad service.

Really hardly mediocre. Sushi Rolls are small pieces of fish in lots of rice. We ordered 3. Measly portioned- and I'm not the type who likes a huge piece that hardly fits in my mouth. Ordered chicken teriyaki for my kid- $15 for dry and old lookin pieces of chicken drowned in teriyaki sauce. I want to like this place, really. But sadly I wont be back.

I regularly order sushi from Akashi Not because it's that great but because it's one of the only places that delivers to the Grove , albeit it takes about 45-60 mins to get your food. Last week I placed an order around 7 pm, when I was on the phone they asked if I wanted it to my office or home . I specified my home and repeated the address . The person on the phone also confirmed the delivery address. When the food had not arrived by 8:15 , I called to find out what was happening , lo and behold they sent it to my office ! I was very annoyed ( and hungry) I had people over and wanted my food. The person on the basically said ' oops my fault so sorry ' When I told him that it was his fault and what was he going to do about it He just kept repeating ' sorry my fault ' After a few more rounds of this he offered me a free green salad ( worth $ 2.50) on my next order. I refused . I had ordered $80 worth of sushi . When the food arrived ( another 20 mins later) it was tepid and smelled ' fishy'. I will never order or go to the restaurant again.

Sushi is good but the place is FILTHY!!! I'm surprised the health dept. hasn't shut them down!! Service was good but clean your restaurant if you want me to come back!!!!!

First visit to this location, but long time fan of the South Miami location. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered they opened a second restaurant in the Grove. Visited on a Saturday night, luckily not too much of a hassle to get a table because we were ok with dining al fresco. They have plenty of al fresco seating only a handful of inside tables. Alex 2 is one of the best rolls created! They have other creative offerings which are yum, yum. As always, Akashi serves up fresh food that is oh so delicious. Our service was very attentive and relatively quick. We were in and out in less than an hour. Very good since we were on our way to the movies afterward. New location, just as great as the original!
