Ok so obviously I am at Ocean Drive all the time, I love the scene there! Anyway, I decided to try The Place since the woman outside handed us a drink special flyer. I was in the mood to try something new and so was my friend. We sat down outside and ordered the mojito. IT WAS ENORMOUS. I am not complaining because you get what you pay for. I got the pasta alfredo with shrimp as a special and it was fairly priced! Also, the portion was just right! Alfredo can be a bit much if theres too much of it. The service was good and our waiter was friendly and upbeat. I did not have any complaints!

Stayed at the beacon and had the complimentary breakfast. Could not have had a worse meal. The "full" breakfast was tiny and cold and we asked if it could be remade and heard the waiter call my wife a bit** under his breath. When she got the food back, she said it did not taste right and got very sick. I think they did something to the food to make her get sick. We have stayed at the Beacon before and loved it before this restaurant took over and will never stay there again because of this terrible experience. BEWARE!!

  • Sarah M.

We only ate here for breakfast because we were staying at the attached Beacon Hotel. For a free breakfast in pricey South Beach, they had a good selection and surprisingly big portions. The service was a bit slow and don't expect your coffee cup to be more than half full, but to be included with the hotel stay was a good deal. If we would have stayed longer, we probably would have tried The Place for dinner or lunch. I would at least recommend this place for a cheap and satisfying breakfast.

Scam! Stay away - if you share a serving, they charge for two. I got charged $56 for veg paella! Boiled rice and boiled broccoli! I had dinned the day before with drinks for that much at a better place!

  • Mike H.

Wish I would have read other reviews first! Terrible place! 2 for 1 drinks...don't think so, although they are advertised. Only thing the servers care about are getting new customers. Terrible service! BEWARE...GRATUITY IS INCLUDED! We had a party of three. Don't waste your time or money.

Ripoff. During the day they run 2x1 drinks. When you get a bill it's "per person drinks" so they they will charge drinks per person. Drinks aeevery expencive and not wrll made. Crab cakes feel hardly have any crab meat in it. Salads are bad and tastless.

They charged us (two persons) 162 dollars for two drinks and an appetizer, does that sound right? Not so much. But it goes far beyond steep prices. First of all, we did not get what we ordered. Since what we got seemed good enough so we didn't bother making a fuss. We also ordered two drinks which (to our surprise) came super sized. All in good fun I thought, but all they did was add water and a splash of soda to a regular drink. Since our visit we've heard and red other reviews claiming the same so we're pretty sure this is commonplace at this establishment. The real problem with this place (more aptly named "a rotten place") is with its service. We got our check and it said that our appetizer cost 80 dollars. Most other cost a fraction of that, in fact, our meal wasn't even on the menu! We tried to talk to our waitress about this, but she insisted that this was correct and did not spare us another glance. We made the mistake of paying with the intent to leave no tip. The "suggested tip" was included in the price, and we received our change without the receipt. Again we contacted our waitress, but to no avail. After about half an hour of being ignored and our request to see our receipt again (this had been thrown away and was presumably impossible to recover) we finally got in contact with the manager of the restaurant. He was more interested in explaining how this was entirely our fault than anything else. At the end he left us with not as much as an apology, and he had the nerve to send one of those annoying flower selling hobos to pester our table (the hobo in question was quite nice though, understanding of why we felt scammed). All in all: This is not the place to be.

Slow service. Mediocre ceviche. Overpriced, bland, and undersized portions. Another tourist trap.

  • Igor K.

Scam!!!! DO NOT GO THERE!! Ordered an omelette which was $8.50 and asked to add ham. Extra topping cost me $4.00!!!! A glass of orange juice is $12!!!! They are very bad!! A day before we had a dinner at La Baguette on ocean drive. They also tried to rip us off by telling me that 20% discount wasn't offered when we came in. And the discount was the only reason why we stayed there. If u want to have a good food and service DO NOT DINE ON OCEAN DRIVE!

  • Jackie M.

food quality was okay. nothing special!! our waiter was nice to us, until we asked her about the menu that was by the front entrance... i felt like she gave us attitude from then on! smh.. mojitos were delicious and hugeee! food was medocore!

  • Sarah V.

I wish I would of read this before we went! These people are SCaM artist! They tell you about the "specials" what they don't tell you is the ridiculous price!! The rest of the food was ok and the drink specials don't count when you spend 100 on a crappy appetizer!

whatever you do don't let the waiter talk into getting the paella...not good and very expensive

In short, don't eat at this restaurant! The waiters and manager will try to scam you and you could end up paying way more than you think. Read below for the full story. My girlfriend and I came to this restaurant because we wanted a good seafood pasta. We had seen a lot of good seafood pasta dishes while walking down Ocean Drive so we wanted to try one ourselves. We went to The Place, and the waiter suggested the special which sounded like a delicious seafood pasta. He didn't mention the price, and when we asked, he ignored the question and said something like 'you'll like it. its really good'. We figured it couldn't be that much since the most expensive pasta dish on the menu was $25. Right after we ordered, I Yelped the restaurant on my smart phone and noticed the really bad rating. I read the review below where somebody else got scammed, so I immediately went to the waiter to ask how much our dish was. It was $100 for a pasta! I told him to cancel it. He tried to tell me he couldn't cancel it since he already placed the order but i said that we were going to pay for our drink and leave otherwise. At that point, he cancelled our order and we ordered something else. In summary, don't eat here. There are plenty of other good restaurants not on Ocean Drive. The Place will try to scam you.

You get what you pay for so don't expect much when ordering the complementary breakfast that comes with the room. Service is very slow. Orange juice is not really juice. Coffee is not hot, nor was the French toast or waffle, which was missing the strawberries too. On the fourth morning I tried an egg white ham and cheese omelet and this was at least edible as was my husband's eggs over easy and bacon. The toast comes dry, cold and usually not toasted so don't come here if you are really hungry or desiring quality food.

In all honesty, probably chose this location because it had the most attractive hostess of all the ones beckoning us. Started with giant drinks. They were tasty and two for one, but $25 for one means $12.50 each for two. Of course the price isn't listed on the menu. It's just the unpleasant surprise at the end. A Pina Colada was tasty, though lacking in alcohol. A Bahama Mama had more alcohol, but got too watered down if you didn't drink fast enough. Appetizer specials of chicken fingers (5) and mozzarella sticks (6) were good and $4 each. The portions were pretty substantial and made me regret ordering an entree. However, the entrees were decent. The Mahi-Mahi came with well-cookede vegetables and in a tasty lemon-butter-caper sauce. The fish could have been a bit more tender. Service was on the slow side, especially when it came to the appetizers. However, are appetites were sated a bit by the delicious bread provided. Each place along that stretch of Ocean Drive bars and restaurants are probably similar. Best part of the meal was our seat along the ledge overlooking the sidewalk and all the people/cars going by.

Bogo on happy hour? Hell yeah! I'm drunk just thinking about it. Cold platter was on point with ceviche, crab legs, shrimp cocktail and oysters. Everything was fresh and hit the spot. I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about. The food was good, the drinks had us happy and the service was great. This spot is perfect for people watching and we even made a few friends along the way. We had a blast! I'm not a huge fan of the 19% instant gratuity added but that's pretty standard anyplace off Ocean.

    (3)
  • Angela S.

The ceviche looks like left over fish they found outside. The shrimp cocktail is 20 bucks for 4 shrimp. Definitely not coming back

Extremely different from the last few times I was here. They basically get new cooks and become inconsistent. My last visits at this restaurant was a few times in 2012 and recently both last summer and this January. This January, Waitresses are way more rude than the past ones, over priced shrimp cocktail...is a joke. 4 (FOUR) small shrimp for $15 when you can buy a bag of 20 cooked shrimp for $12.99 #LOL I loved my previous experiences here but my last visit was in January and I must say I wasn't too impressed. I gave it 3 stars, (still generous) for over priced shrimp, rude waitress, and for the poorly plated food (I left a review on "The Beacon Hotel" with photos of how the food used to look when I stayed there) I'll give this place ONE more try and honestly that's because I'm hoping everything will be different but if not, I definitely won't be coming here again. There's way TOO many wonderful places and hidden gems on south beach to be settling for mediocre service, rude waiters, and inconsistent meals. Some people come back to places because they expect it to be just as good as the last time, not the opposite! Do better! Or "the place" will be in "the past"

  • Anthony H.

This place is pretty much horrible. I could do better at a truck stand. Most of the people in my group did not touch there food. I usually YELP before I leap and I certainly should have done it today. $7.00 for chicken strips and fries, $5.50 for a soda. Mandatory 19% service charge. Service charge for what? stay away...Faraway...

  • Liz P.

Not sure why the bad reviews for this place. I will say that what attracted us to it was the $3.99 appetizers, and then we saw that you could only order one. I had been planning to order a few and call it a meal LOL. We walked up Ocean Drive and then came back here since it seemed reasonable. They have nine dollar entrées which are actually pretty large, we ordered the salad and the pasta pesto to share. Don't be fooled by their two-for-one drinks, we got the small size and it was huge so I would hate to see their large size, and it was $18. That's actually not too bad considering I was at a happy hour at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale later in the day, and those tropical drinks were $15 for a much smaller version. The standout was definitely the pasta pesto, there's a place in Michigan I like that makes it but this place was just as good if not better. There are a lot of choices on Ocean Drive so I might try another place next time, but this place gives you a pretty good value for your money.

Do not waste your time here. Came here for brunch and ordered the French Toast with a side of Roasted Potatoes. The food was good, but nothing special, and moderately priced for the area (around $15 with tax and tip). Service is HORRIBLE. I couldn't believe how slow and inattentive the waitress was. They get away with it because they impose a 19% gratuity. BE WARNED. Only pro is the location... Great for people watching with outdoor seating, just a block away from the beach.

Terrible service. Very expensive. Food not very good. Great location. Go elsewhere.

Stay away! We were hungry and we didn't know where to go after walking a lot we just landed here. Of course they were promoting specials. They sat us outside at our request. My husband had paella (the menu doesn't include price) he said the only good thing out of the paella was the lobster it had. I had a Cuban sandwich (part of the special) I ordered it only with ham and cheese nothing else. It came with pickles- I didn't feel like arguing this I just got to SOBE. We also got two drinks (part of special - 2/1). My Cuban was alright I honestly had better this tasted like a cheap deli version and my fries were disgusting. Our bill came out to $95.00 for a lunch time special! I was better off going to Johnny Rockets next door. Please avoid this place. Let's not even talk about service. Just to update right now I am on the phone with my bank to dispute the tip that the server Maria Soledad decided to add. A 20% service fee is already added I didn't feel they deserved that and certainly was not going to add more. I won't even bother with calling this place because I already know if there waitress have the guts to do this what kind of shady place this. Wish I would have read the reviews prior to sitting here!

I could go on and on about how terrible this place is but seriously I really think it's a shame how deceiving these people on south beach can be when it comes to luring in the tourist to eat at their locations. So for starters we came here after walking up and down ocean to only be lured in with that signature "oh 2x1 drinks and lunch specials deal" and of course with my knowledge of how Miami works and specifically south beach I decided what the hell let's try it.. So after we sat down and looked at the menu I had second thoughts because the menu that they had giving outside the restaurant didn't match what they gave us after we sat down.. 1st and only red flag.. My partner ordered a drink and because it was that whole buy one get one free thing we got the second drink to go and oh yeah of course it was almost $70 with that lovely 19% gratuity they tack on haha! Can't tell you about the food because it wasn't even an option.

We had a great time here! The salmon was off the hook and their drinks were great! Our waitress was so pleasant the entire time we visited! Also the music was great!

  • Taste Buds T.

I am probably the only one giving this place such a high rating. Now that could be because my review is based on the breakfast i had there, which did not include drinks. The Garden Omelette and Country Omelette we ordered were really good. The place liked neat and perfect for the morning. My only complain, the waitress did not explain the breakfast deal well. I was supposed to get a free coffee, which i came to know only after i left the place.

Never again. The fact that their take home containers didn't survive 30 seconds in the microwave is a testament to this low quality, cheap, and unsatisfying experience. There is a company that owns many restaurants on the strip, so all of them have the same foods. They do "make changes" to what the 20% off and 2-1 drinks are as you order, so you never get it, but tack on a 19% gratuity. Go to Local House or more inland if you want something better. I left stunned and upset. At least we left full. The server wasn't terrible, but the bus people required you to get their attention before the served you even bread- which we got when our food came and only after we asked. The food was okay at best, but it could have been because we were hungry, but the costs, $53 for just the food, you could have gotten better and cheaper at the nearby TGI Fridays- and I stopped going there after college. I guess that was the "cost" of eating on Ocean Drive, but that was what bumped them from 2 stars to one. At half the price and an attentive bus person, OR MUCH better food i could have given it a 3. All of the above for a 5.

Totally overpriced!!!!! The food just fuck up:( they charged us for 85box services fee--

  • Kari W.

Wish we had read the reviews before sitting down. There were big "two for one drink" signs so we sat down and tried to order two cocktails and two beers to which our waitress said it was only for cocktails. We didn't really understand the discrepancy but proceeded to order. Upon dropping off the bill she had all four drinks on there at full price. We reminded her of the deal and she came up with an entirely different story. This place is a scam, stay away.

    (1)
  • Nitin B.

The south beach art deco strip had some awful restaurants and this doesn't prove any different. Any time the hostesses come out regaling the menu to passers by, it's a warning sign to stay away. Plus they go after the tourist or hungry crowd. We were both. I ordered a $40 lobster tail and it was over cooked and tough. Never had such bad and expensive lobster before. Lesson learned.

    (2)
  • Istiaque H.

I ate their dinner deal of a stake and a lobster. The cooking is good and I enjoyed eating there. The ambience was nice and lively. The biggest complain I heard about them is their misleading promotions on foods and drinks. So, I asked the price of each individual items which I wanted to eat or drink and made sure with them about the total bill that I would pay for dinner before I placed any order.

    (4)
  • Natalie J.

I have nothing more to say that this place is a scam... They tell u they have happy hour 2x1 and what they do is they change the price so absolutely NOT 2x1 in the price they charge you what the 2 would cost. 2 beers corona not even cold and a piña colada 60 dollars... Come on!! Payed my check and went to another place.

    (1)
  • Jim H.

Don't go here! Ridiculously overpriced. The big drinks are about $25. I had a beer and it was $13 for a Miller Lite. Sure, they're buy one get one free, but that's still $6.50 for each beer. The real hit is if you order from their "specials" menu. There are no prices on these items, so you don't find out until the check comes just how much they're charging. My wife got a seafood spaghetti dish that was $55. On the other hand, I ordered off the regular menu and got a sandwich for the posted price of $13. They also automatically add an 18% service charge.

    (1)
  • Rich H.

Unfortunately I have to agree with most of the posts. This place is good if you want the experience of eating on ocean Blvd in south beach. Other than that, the food is just ok. The omelets aye basic and small for the price. The chicken breast definitely tasted frozen. And the drinks? Don't get trapped into a large. It's all mixer and very little alcohol. In fact, the small and medium drinks have the same amount of liquid. We tested. Save your money and get a small.

    (2)
  • Lauren F.

I think this place is actually called Corona Cafe. We got suckered into having a drink here... there's apparently two sizes, medium and large, nothing normal. Drink was okay for a $35 fish bowl. Service was shitty, especially after the waitress realized we only wanted drinks. She took our napkins away and never brought us the water we requested. All she did was take our order and bring us the drink and check, yet we were charged over $6 (19%) for a BS service charge for three people. We asked the waitress to take it off, she said no and her explanation was that she doesn't get the service charge, she only gets tip. The service charge goes to the house. What kind of shistey shit is that? No tip for you. Sorry not sorry. And the guy standing out front promised us free shots that we never got. Chhhhno thank you!

    (1)
  • Maly H.

This place is overpriced. I ordered shrimp alfredo the taste wasn't that good. I ate mostly the shrimp and didn't bother finishing the pasta. I expected it to be good for the price I paid!!!!

    (1)
  • Sam R.

Don't waste your time keep on walking the service is terrible and the meals are missing items on the menu, the south beach salad didn't have the avocado as stated in the menu and when we asked for it they gave us a side order and tried to charge for it. Good luck if you eat here.

    (1)
  • Miriya S.

Okay service. Okay food off the lunch specials and 3.99 menu. It's a tourist trap along Ocean Dr with decent food. Great way to people watch while having lunch.

    (3)
  • Travis S.

TOURIST TRAP! DONT GET THE "SPECIALS" HERE! The got me and my wife big time during my vacation to Miami. They were advertising a $5 appetizer with their signs out front and we saw people sitting with huge margarita's outside so we decided to eat here. Once we sat down our server came over and listed off the specials for the evening, including the appetizer specials (which I thought were only $5 according to their sign). I figured even if they weren't $5, the most expensive thing on their menu was $65 and that was for their surf and turf, so it couldn't be that expensive. We ordered 2 margarita's and the appetizer sampler platter. You would think at most this would cost $50, maybe $75 since it's Miami and the drinks are big?? No, the bill came to $215.00!!!! WTF! Yeah, the appetizer cost us $100 and then $25 per margarita, and then on top of it all, apparently in Miami they like to automatically add in your 15% tip. Me being a typical tourist just decided to trust that one of their appetizers wouldn't cost almost double what their most expensive item on the menu costs. Bottom line, this place is a complete tourist trap, they intentionally mislead their customers and that is not how a business should be ran. I gave the owner a piece of my mind though. I hope he is reading this and recalls our confrontation on March 28th...called him a P**SY B**CH straight to his face infront of his entire restaurant. It didn't solve anything, but made me feel better since he just ripped me off big time.

  • Allie P.

I have to admit... all of the cafes lined up alongside Miami Beach looked similar. My group and I walked up and down about 2 times trying to decide on a place to have lunch. We just kind of just all agreed to stop here cause we were all hungry... and we all wanted those huge margarita drinks every had, lol. We had a group of 9 and were seated outside on the upper patio area (not on the sidewalk). My Order: Lobster Ravioli w/ some type of margarita drink Note: Supposedly your second drink is 5 cents - so I ordered a one of their daiquiri margaritas I think - it was red/pink and came w/ 2 coronas that were turned upside-down. I thought my food was yummy - though it was way more than what I wanted to spend. It was my first time in Miami, so I wanted to "go all out". I'm pretty sure everyone at our table ordered a second drink... when the bill came back it was over $400... $447.29 (to be exact). Gratuity was already included ($80.35) . Yup, that was definitely THE most expensive bill I've ever been apart of at a restaurant. Service: OKAY - nothing special... but no complaints either. Atmosphere: NICE b/c you're right across from the beach & the day was nice :]

  • J M.

Worst place in the world. They use awful pressuring tactics to get you to sit down like food and drink specials. Then they give you a different menu with no prices. Then after you receive your bill it's 5 times more than the specials they told you to get you to sit down. They then say "you have to ask for a special menu to get those prices". These people are crooks and are ripping people off. Plus the food doesn't taste very good.

    (1)
  • Daniel M.

Everyone is right about this place regarding prices not listed. However on the regular menu prices are listed and the food is good. The portions are small however and waited 1/2 hr for them to serve us. Wine list ok and had a great Nero D' Avola. Gonna have to stop somewhere else on the way home to feed the rest of tape worms. Lol!,,,,,

    (3)
  • Kevin M.

The food was actually not bad, however I agree with the other reviews regarding price. It was new years eve so I cannot blame them for wanting to make a few extra bucks, but $195 for the lobster paella was a bit much. They did not even offer water with our $200 dinner and told us we had to buy bottled water for $15. Even with this, I'd have given them 2 or even 3 stars. However when we were done with our meal and finishing our wine, the hostess marched over with a scowl on her face and menus in hand. She impatiently told us that we had to either order more food or we had to leave. I was ready to leave, but was offended by her attitude. No one even offered us desert, coffee or more drinks. We didn't cause a scene, but probably should have protested. So, I'll protest here on Yelp... greedy reataurant!!!

    (1)
  • Jose B.

The food is actually good, but this place is a tourist trap! The 2x1 drinks are overpriced and they might try to charge you regular price if it is shared! The small size drink has the same volume as the medium size one. The Market price items are excesively overpriced, stay away from them or ask for the peice before hand!

    (1)
  • Jorge R.

Super high priced food and drinks. Of all the restaurants I have been to I have never seen BAIT AND SWITCH tactics used in a restaurant. A car dealership yes, but a restaurant? Want to pay 50.00 for Antipasto, 35.00 for cheese dip, 50.00 for one drink and shitty service? Well you found the right place. Its one thing to pay good money for a high end restaurant but its another to be lied to just to get you to come in. Aviod at all costs.... I repeat avoid at all costs.

  • Brandyce A.

I should've checked the reviews before dining here.... I saw someone else's plate which looked delicious, and the big drinks and such earlier as I passed by during the day and thought - wow, gotta come back here! Ugh, we ate here and not a fan. The food doesn't taste great (oyster appetizers and clam/linguine dinner), I seriously could've made better seafood at home that tastes like some actual love went into it. The drinks were too strong and had a weird cheap liquor after taste... Service sucked. Don't dine here, not worth it.

Bought calamari and a mai tai and my tap came out to 56.00 dollars. Go ahead and keep walking away.

Terrible actually. Me and my girlfriend ate here. Only good thing is that we saw the bad quality early and just had one meal and water so we could go somewhere else. She had a pretty boring fajitas and I had a terrible pork chop. Worst place so far during the trip. Next doors is a great place, go there instead.

  • Briana V.

Ugh this place is disgusting. Our food tasted like nothing. Something like a $2 frozen meal that they heated up and served us. My friend and I were starving and said fine we will eat here. BIG MISTAKE!! We ordered the $3.99 Calamari special. I should have known better. Tasted like rubbery frozen food. The sauce was good though. That's about the highlight of this dining experience. I ordered the chicken fettuccine, nothing like carb loading in a bikini. The sauce from a a jar (you can tell, if it was made in house you would see the fats, and the cheese, this was smooth and creamy and completely flavorless) My pasta had clumps stuck together, the chicken was pre-made frozen cut up chicken. Everything was completely flavorless. I couldn't even eat the chicken it was rubbery. I added salt, pepper, parmesan, nothing was saving this dish. My friends had a bit more flavor as she ordered the pesto pasta with chicken and shrimp. I tried the pasta not the protein. Chicken was the same chicken I had and shrimp were small and looked rubbery as well. The only reason hers had flavor was because pesto inherently has flavor. Service sucked, we had to ask 4 different people to turn on the heater behind us (it was cool and windy) and then our food took forever to come out. Not only that but we had to ask several servers for things cause ours was nowhere to be found. She comes back 15 minutes after our food was served asking if we wanted Parmesan cheese. Umm our food would have been cold if we waited for you. To top it off they suggest a tip. We gave less because nothing was worth tipping. If her service was on point we might have given it but once they seat you they do not care to earn a tip.

I had a great time here..people watching and drinking huge drinks the size of my head. Ordered cannelloni. Tasty.

Drinks were just so so. Didn't taste of much. The seafood paella was $135 for 2. Not worth that price. Meal overall was not a knock out. Lots of restaurants to choose from along the road with equally good people watching vantage points. Staff were v attentive & friendly though.

  • Lety A.

Do not order anything without asking for a price list! We did the happy hour buy one get one free drinks and our bill for two drinks was $116 dollars. Tourists beware! It's nothing more than sleezy locals reeling you in for a trap. You also have a lot of random vendors selling you mixtapes and stolen mac makeup, beats headphones and cigars. Do yourself a favor and walk on the opposite side of the street. You will be thanking yourself later.

  • Fanny J.

I didn't believe all the yelp reviews ( and I should have) until i got the bill! We ordered a large margarita with two corona in it. It looks fancy, but, it taste like nothing but diluted corona. There's nearly no margarita taste at all. And it costs about $75 plus about 20% tips! The bill breaks up like this: $45 for the 32 oz tasteless margarita, $24 for two bottle corona. The total of the bill is $86.94. There were no price listed on the drink menu at all and the waitress tried to trick my friend to order an extra drink at first. It's absolutely a TOURIST TRAP. Anyway, I've learned my lesson and I'll never go back ever. Maybe some of their drink& food are good, but I just don't appreciate their way of doing business.

The Place Gives South Beach a BAD NAME Beware of the scamming going on in this business to innocent visitors of South Beach. Location is great, right in front of the beach, the food is average and when you get your bill, check it carefully as at least one item will be heftily overpriced. In our case, we were not charged per their menu prices. When you complain they tell you they can't do anything about it as the manager is not in. We ordered a $165 sampler plate and the bill came in showing it for $316 instead of $165 they had it tagged for on the menu. The waitress was very pushy in having us order this specific plate. They added on top of that $99.52 gratuity that I never authorized. A 4 person meal that should've never gone over $200 came out to be close to $600 plus the bitter experience of having to deal with people who are apparently well trained to perform this type of scamming. I did not want to make a scene in front of my guests and paid the bill to then settle it with Amex and the manager is giving the hardest time to adjust the charges. He is never available and when you speak to the assistance that sometimes picks up the phone and you ask why does this business keeps doing this to people (as per other comments here), he says, "well, you know how it is". Additionally, their valet parker is as good hustler as any used car salesman and will charge you $40-$50 to park your car. You better walk there as there is no parking anywhere. Today I called to speak to the manager, Pablo. He asked me to stop calling to bother them and hung up on me.

Well, this bad experience could have been avoided if I had only looked at yelp before dining!!! Shame on me. Everything is overpriced! They pulled me in with their 2 for 1 Dr in, only to find out the drinks were $19 each!!! The bread before the meal was so stale! It was like eating rocks! Crevice app was just huge chunks of tilapia...no vegetables or tomatoes or anything! Yuck! Entree shrimp salad I ordered was so small and was just lettuce with3 shrimp for heafty price of $18. Hubby got chicken parmesan, but it was so overcooked, he could barely cut into it!!! Our waiter barely spoke English, so he was of little use. Even though I live in Florida, this was my first time dining at south beach....I will never do it again! It is obvious that this was a tourist trap that did not care about repeat customers...they just aim at trapping tourists for a bad meal, who will never come back. This place is horrible!!!!!!!!!!! Please, if you like your money, do NOT go here!!!!!!!!!!!

    * Food was amazing. * Street vendors are allowed in. "Kind of annoying" * price is expensive. If you order drinks please specify size otherwise they charge you for the 25$ large cocktail. * 17% gratuity included without warning. Over all great staff, very nice beach front. Food was great, Will eat here again but will be weary of the over priced cocktail size. Thanks D

They should rename the restaurant to "DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!" Seriously! Don't go to this place! I don't say this very often, but I would definitely not give this place any stars if given that option and can't believe this place even exists. The Place is situated in a great location near the beach. I usually restrain myself from going to restaurants near popular tourists location because the food usually is horrific, and you're paying mainly for the location and I'm assuming a portion of the expensive rent as well. My friends and I were pretty hungry before we headed out to the beach. Of course the nice, uber persuasive hostess lured us to dine with them. What really sold my friend was the cheap nachos (haha). We were immediately sat outside. My friend ordered her nachos which she wanted to substitute the cheese for salsa. My other friend ordered the mediocre crab wrap (which should be called the crap wrap according to my friend) and I ordered the fish sandwich. When the food came, the server got my order wrong and gave me the veggie sandwich. That's alright. I'm don't get mad at those situations. But instead of leaving to that, she insist that I told her I ordered the veggie and that maybe she couldn't understand my English. Right, you're the one with the thick accent. -_- I've lived in this country since I was two thank you. After she took my food and gave me an annoyed look, the whole experience kept going downhill. I got my fish which didn't taste like anything. After the meal, we were dying to get our check. She never came back to our table, and I had to ask the busboy for the check instead. What was the cherry on the top was that she charges my friend $9.50 for the nacho cheese and salsa substitution, saying it was a *special* order and told her that she was being charged for the guacamole and sour cream that she did not order with the salsa. I don't need to go on a raging rampage on this but we can agree that the situation ended up being ridiculous. Of course they fixed the order after I demanded to see the manager. The impression that my friends and I were left with is that the restaurant exists not to create the best possible food for their dining companions but rather to mooch off tourists' money. Please do go here.

WORST RESTAURANT EVER! They forged an additional $30 tips on both me and friend's bill!! (Which the gratuity is included) they don't even has the price on their special menus! We ordered the "hot and cold appetizer", they told me that was $105, and they charged us $165 at the end. Worst experience in Miami.

  • Fangyin L.

The food was good but the servant WASNT good at all! Bad accent I would say... We don't understand her and she didn't understand us... We got two good appetizer , a paella and a mixed meat, the meat was too much for us including 2 steaks, 2 piece of chicken and sausage, but the servant told us that was what we ordered and that was for 2 people! Impossible!!!! We got an exchange for what she called "individual" size because before we ordered we told her we could not eat a lot and only want two entrees, and that's it!!! We still got the mixed meat left. Too much for us! Be careful when ordered, the servant would not tell much information.

The food was amazing. So great that we went two days in a row. The bruschetta is DELICIOUS. Me and all my friends ordered one. The Calamari was yummy. Large, meaty pieces. The crack soup was both hearty and good. Reminded me of a jambalaya. The breakfast and breakfast specials were all great. The only thing preventing me from adding the last star was our unattentive waiter. Will be coming back here everytime I'm in Miami.

They forged my signature and added a $22 tip (gratuity was already included). HORRIBLE place We see pressing identity thief charges

Me, my partner, and a friend had a few drinks here and they were amazing. Make sure u have plenty of money Cuz it can get pricey, but the drinks are huge and amazing!!! The only reason I am giving it 5 stars is because I had an amazing waitress! Ask for Patricia when u stop by to eat or for drinks. She is very friendly and kind! Made us feel very welcome! Next time I'm in Miami, I will definitely go back and ask for Patricia! She is excellent!!

Well Miami was beautiful, full of outdoor restaurants and this was one of them that I tried. It was good old fashioned American food, some Italian and Mexican mixed with is. Ocean Dr was full of them and what a beautiful view we had while sitting. seeing people walk through the restaurant on the sidewalk and we were pretty much people watching, it was an amazing experience. Must go there to eat or anywhere on Ocean Dr really.

WALK AWAY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! This place is the biggest rip off. My family was walking down ocean drive, and we were looking for a place to eat paella. The menu did not include prices, and my family was hit with a $400 bill!

  • Josh P.

We sat down wanting 1 drink and an appetizer. That is what we got - along with a $100 bill. The waitress feigned bad English and got us to get a sampler instead of one single appetizer - it turned out to be 5 appetizers thrown on one plate and costed me $65. The drink came out wrong but we took it (red daq with two coronas) - it was $30! We had ordered a margarita. Please do not go here, so that my stupidity can be a lesson!

The shrimp will give you good poisoning unless you like day old shrimp aged at room temp. We had a large group and the highest complement was about the women that was sitting next us (she was ugly). Please save your butt and go next door.

Tourist trap and an embarrassment to seafood restaurants everywhere. A three item dinner consisting of a fishbowl drink, an entree, and a seafood platter appetizer ran over $175- which honestly I wouldn't have minded if the seafood was edible - but I've had better seafood from food trucks... Service was ok, not great. Only positive things I can say is it's right on the beach and I was told the Risotto was delicious. Personally, I would highly recommend finding, well, pretty much anything else.

avoid avoid avoid! service fee was included on check!!! service was aweful! food just soso. we had to ask for the check 3 times...when we finally were ready we had to take the checks to her as a bus boy gave her a shoulder massage a few tables away...tip is included so we had to pay it anyway! aagghhh!

By my fourth night in Miami, I was irate over two very important musts: 1. I had not eaten a lobster, and 2. I hadn't had a mojito the size of my face. Thankfully The Place remedied both in one very delicious, very intoxicated evening. At first The Place is very much like all the other al fresco dining options along Ocean Drive. Pretty hostesses soliciting tourists to try their "specials" for the evening; two-for-one $25 drinks; and presentations of their best dishes on display. Side note: Be a good little tourist and do your research about restaurants in Miami Beach and on Ocean Drive, i.e. peruse Yelp, before you get down there and complain about prices/soliciting/food. Honestly I do not understand idiots who go to a new place, and then bitch about it being different. Angry tangent... excuse me. Anywho, once we bypassed the hostess, got a table and looked over the menu, my party of eight realized this place was Thee Place to be. Ha! See what I did there? The menu is an intoxicating blend of French and Mediterranean fare, with splashes of Miami's local flavor blended in. I righted my lobster wrong and ordered the lobster paella, along with a strawberry mojito, at the suggestion of the waitress. It was as big as my head, and arguably the best mojito I've had in a very, very long time. Probably because it had nine shots of rum in it. The more rum the merrier, I say! Fresh bread was brought to the table to soak up the alcohol, and the wait for our entrees was not excruciating. The paella was just phenomenal. Crispy rice on the bottom paired with sweet and succulent jumbo shrimp, plump clams and petite veggies soaked up that delicious saffron broth. But nothing came close to the lobster. Split in half for easy chowing, the lobster was cooked just right and paired so well with the rest of the paella. It wasn't the largest tail I've ever had, but it did the job really well. All that delectableness came to $35. Not a bad deal for an already pricy dish topped with nature's crustacean gold. The mojito that could put out a forest fire was in deed $25, but it's twin sister that came in a to-go cup was a mere 99 cents. I know the reputation Ocean Drive restaurants have, and I'm sure they turn over faster than omelets at IHOP, but this place was perfect for a beautiful night out in Miami, and the food was sublime.

Food awesome, service and promotions are a joke. Don't go for the 25% off people. The burger was good and the Sea Bass was to die for. If u must get a drink, do the buy one get one. But beware the drinks start at $25.00 each.

Only positive remark I can make is the service was above average. The food was terrible to be polite. We had a large group and ordered a variety of entrees, not one finished their meal and said it was good.

Tourist Trap, way way way over charge. 3 weak drinks for $100.00. And I think they may have added to my bill after I signed it but I can't prove that. A huge rip-off. If all of South Beach is like this then the heck with South Beach.

  • Alex O.

Cuban lacked any salt but when I salted the Cuban it was pretty good. The fries were mediocre and I don't recommend the bucket drink for margaritas. They put little to no alcohol in them for 25 bucks, stick with the bucket mixed drinks, they are better. Very pricy for what you get, definitely a tourist trap. There are better places to eat nearby.

this review is only based on the drinks and looking at the food that my friends ordered. i only ordered drinks. mojito....sweat and watered down. the miami beach mojito probably was very good at one point and probably the best place in the US to get a real cuban mojito...now its watered down sugar water at all the touristy places. i know mojitos are the drink bartenders hate to make but here in miami you would expect them to be very good and better than any mojito you had outside of miami....NOT so much. i'm sure if you go to the non-tourist places the mojitos are strong and delicious but for those trapped in south beach, it's a bit disappointing. caiprinah....better but still super sweet. when you drink a large drink you should feel some type of buzz after drinking it. not so much. for $19 a drink, they were not very good and i honestly could make better. as far as the food, everyone seemed underwhelmed. i only tried a few fries and they were cold and soggy. some people who got crab legs commented that the butter was cold. the prices seemed super inflated for lousy options.

I looked up the reviews prior to coming here and the reviews made it seem to be one of the worst places in South Beach. The service here was some of the worst! The waiter took forever to do anything and we waited for the bill for over 40 minutes. I can't complain about the food, which surprisingly was very good but, just because their is so many other places on the strip I won't be going back here because the service was that bad! 2.5 stars

I can't find my waitress for the past two hours. Help! Seems typical with all the restaurants on ocean drive. Enter at own risk!

We stayed at the adjacent hotel (The Beacon) so we ate here daily. Overall the food and vibe were consistent with what you get on Ocean Drive (overpriced drinks and average tasting food). The highlight of the eating experience was the bruschetta, which was ADDICTIVE. Although a simple dish they have found the perfect combination of fresh tomatoes, garlic, EVVO and toast. We ordered bruschetta every day we were in town. The service was inconsistent, when it was good it was good but when it was bad it sucked. There's live entertainment in the evenings, which is lively and entertaining. The location is central on Ocean Drive. Overall the experience was ok.

On my last day of vacation in Miami I spent most of the day on Ocean Drive. After some swimming I became hungry and really just selected a random restaurant. I selected The Place because it was convenient and I could see the car from where I was sitting. When the server came to the table he offered us drinks. We chose water, but asked for the drink menu to stay on the table. I've dined at many places before and normally this means a drink will be ordered soon. However, after ordering my meal which was Shrimp Alfredo I never saw the server again. Well, at the end when I asked for the restroom. I was not impressed with the service as I feel like the server could have been more attentive towards his tables. Additionally, the food was very pricey for the quality of the food. I feel like there are a ton .of other better places to dine in. I will certainly stick with reading reviews before deciding to eat at another restaurant on vacation.

  • Olivia R.

Definitely a tourist trap. I saw those massive beer-margaritas and could not resist. The drink itself was okay - very sugary to the point where it's overwhelming but that's exactly what I was expecting. Cost around $30 and definitely enough to share between two people. Service was terrible - we had to like beg for a menu and the one beer-margarita drink we ordered took about 30 minutes to come out. Then similarly we had to ask multiple times for the check. There are so many other better places right on that strip of Ocean Drive so I would probably skip this one if I went back.

I love South Beach. But when I came to The Place as the first restaurant we ate at for dinner on Vacation on Thursday night, I missed Chicago restaurants. Not to insult the view, the service, and the temperature, I was feeling appreciated to be there in late February. But the food was A-OK. It's on the expensive side, and it's not worth it's price, I payed more for being able to wear a dress in February and enjoy myself eating with that on, then actually enjoying the food. One thing I learned about eating in the touristy area of Ocean Drive, is that they TAKE FOREVER to cook the food, possibly so you will order more drinks or something. The bread and oil was delicious, that was fresh and yummy. I honestly don't remember what we ordered, and because I'm a foodie, I'm surprised I don't because that means I honestly just didn't care for it. However, their menu is appealing in comparison to other restaurants on the drive, it's probably the romantic Italian ambiance.

A place to AVOID, if you are from out of town. I can't imagine anyone in town stopping here either. The DRINKS were way over priced, was told you are paying for the AMBIANCE!!! Would have rather giving the money to the dancer and guitarist for there show than to the restaurant. TWO drinks and two appetizers $100 and we were suppose to get 25% off. This is not Beverly Hills and I'm not Don Johnson. So dine and drink at your own risk. Pass this along and find something on the streets behind the South Beach strip for better prices and better food. Check out this site for future references... m.voices.yahoo.com/10pla…

I went there for breakfast and got the eggs Benedict. They were ok. My wife had 2 egg meal and an oj. asked if they had bloody Mary's. He said yes. 10 minutes later he brings me an enormous Bloody Mary with 2 straws. Obviously I didn't need or want a drink this big because my wife had ordered a oj. Btw the drink they decided to bring me with my breakfast was $25.00!! Don't go there.

$24 sugar water drinks, and then they marker in the 'suggested' tip on top of the charged amount, leaving the tip space open as if we're stupid enough to leave more on top of the tip they add themselves...

Strawberry surprise. There were two. Not quite what I had envisioned when the menu touted a waffle with strawberries. I suppose for a $5 breakfast special you can't complain. But you can about the uninterested service, serious delay in delivering our promised free mimosas and a hair in my friend's food. Not the best start to WMC 2012. Fortunately everything went up from there.

My new spot on the beach! They really know how to show people a good time she to get them to stay at there restaurant. Oceans 10 use to have a outstanding happy hr/2 4 1/ half off and then that all changed. So as me and my friends are walking to wet willies a kind lady from the Place stopped us asked us to stay for there happy hr (which is like everyone elses) so I keep walking. Wait what do I hear her win me over with "ill give you all free shots" SOLD! I could not pass up free shots what a way to get our party started. So we stayed and had our great italian lunch/dinner and our 2 4 1 thirty-two ounce drinks oh and of course our SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS EVERYBODY! Our waitress took pictures for us the ambiance outside was great with just the right breeze and the inside where we took pictures at was ahhh gorgeous!. I must say I had a wonderful time and a great way to end our visit to the marvelous Miami! Until next time yelpers, adios.

Skip it! Seriously skip this place! Am I the only local that is fed up with abysmal service and poor quality food provided by restaurants is South Beach? Why? With such historic Art Deco architecture, beautiful scenery and beautiful people, The Place should pride itself with quality. True, it is South Beach and service is notorious but this was the worst service I have ever received in my life, accompanied by expired yogurt. The BAD: -The waitress didn't bring me water -Waitress was extremely inattentive and always never to be found -Food took forever to come out and was not enjoyable (I.E. My friend's waffle was cold and my yogurt which came in a individual cup was expired) -The waitress brought the check before we finished eating Seriously! Can we take pride in the hospitality and have restaurants give better service!

I wish I had thought if reading reviews prior to making the mistake of entering. I walked in to grab a drink at the bar. I asked for any specials and was sold a $20+ giant mojito without being told the price. I also don't know how that's a special. I asked if there was outdoor seating and the waitress told me that if I bought the drink at the bar I'd have to drink it there. Wrong. If I buy a $20+ drink I'll have It wherever I please. I guess she didn't want me to take up a spot from someone who would tip her. Anyway: no customer service, over priced and crappy tasting drinks. Good luck having someone speak English too. Go elsewhere.

Well we had our complimentary breakfast here for staying at the Beacon. It was a full sized breakfast that comes with coffee or orange juice. Regular price is $5.75 so I think that's pretty cheap compared to if you're eating at Denny's. But when we dined here the night before, we ordered a mojito and pina colada...it came in glasses the size of my face! And yes, it did cost $25... we should have read the reviews on here beforehand. My pina colada was good...my bf said his mojito tasted a little watered down. They did end up giving him another one on the house. They gave us a basket of soft bread...good. Then we ordered some mussels in a curry sauce and ceviche. Mussels tasted good...cerviche was just alright. I think they cut the chunks of fish up too big for the martini glass. They had live music and flemenco dancer. Definitely in the middle of it all...people watching...though I didn't see anyone real attractive! It was good to just sit, drink, and relax especially this past weekend since it was raining nonstop! But beware of those hostesses...they will come at you like vultures asking you to dine!

Holy smokes this was the worst food I've had in my entire life. They messed up a shrimp cocktail. I'm pretty sure it was left over and warm. I had to puke immediately. My friend ordered a pizza that was a frozen za. Our tab was $600 and we ate $20 worth of food. It was the worst experience of my life.

Complete Rip Off! Do not Go! I came in here just for one person. I had to wait for some friends so I thought I would treat myself to a place. Ordered the margarita as $25 as advertised and ordered a combo platter that was supposed to be around $50.00. The drink was great but the food was ok. The total of my bill came out to $130 and it without a gratuity charge. It was obvious that I was a tourist and I tried to dispute the bill but the gave a me a crappy excuse that this was the dinner price and it didn't reflect the menu. Then why would they give me the lunch menu.I really didn't put up much of an argument because I had to leave but brought it to my credit card's attention and disputing it. Also, I have these new charges even with the credit card so I don't know if they held onto the # and started making purchases. Do not go and be very careful

Really disappointed by this place. I have asked if there was no other place called Palace on Ocean drive, they told me it was there place but called Place... after while I realised and was pretty angry at them. They charged me extra money for asking more tomatoe sauce on a single pizza. Over price and tourist crap. Not that good and the waiter looks like she s gonna cry when asking if you enjoy. Welcome guys are almost asleep in front the restaurant ... Very upset they were not honest to tell me the real "palace" was a few blocks from there..

Biggest TOURIST TRAP EVER! Big bait and switch going on too. They had a sign for $3.99 appetizers and when we asked for them the waitress said those were only for kids. Why did I even go to this crappy place? Because I had friends from out of town visiting that requested to eat on ocean drive. Okay so if my review of this place doesn't sound horrible yet...keep reading. I ordered a burger, what I got was a burger with hair. Didn't eat much of it at all before finding it and they wanted me to charge me for it. In the end they ended up taking it off the check but it was still an expensive "meal" $21 for one martini (with tax &tip). The little bit of burger I had sucked and the drink wasn't good either. Don't waste your time! Save your money and eat elsewhere.

  • Peizuan T.

Classic bait and switch tactic. Big poster of $3.99 appetizers to get you in, and you'll find that every entree item is north of $25, some on the range. Not too big of a problem here as it seems to be the market price on Ocean Drive. But the waiter would let us think, and kept insisting to "help" with something du jour. Read: off the menu. Seafood grill for two at $165!!??? The priciest on-the-menu item is $65 - combo of surf and turf for two. How did we get from $3.99 to $165? Not to mention for lunch. In the end, it requires one to put on a very shrewd self to even judge weather one is being ripped off, when one just wants to sit down for a simple meal. Call me gullible, but it's just too much cat-and-mouse going on around a plate of food. Forget it.

Only ended up eating here because it was super rainy and we were already super drenched by the rain. Foccacia. Ehh, not the best foccacia, I think I've had better at Pluto's. 'Nuff said! Tropical Ceviche. With Shrimp, Fish, Squid and crackers. First off, it wasn't the least bit "tropical." And second, definitely not worth the $14.50 for a martini glass of seafood with stale crackers. Although I must say the ceviche wasn't half bad, at least the fish wasn't overcooked from the acid, but I've had much better for only $3.50. Virgin Sex on the Beach. Paid $12 for fruit juice, fruit juice that wasn't even that great. Ew. Never again! The service was horrible too. Our server didn't even give us utensils and napkins, we ended up having to ask a busboy for it. Major fail. One of the worst meals I've ever eaten in my life at the worst price point ever!

  • Filippo C.

Bad experience! Food was average "fast food quality" but the service was terrible. We ordered fried calamari and the waitress convinced us to get a dish with "fried calamari" and she said "not fried calamari" and we got a huge plate with oyster, shrimp cocktails, sevice, etc... So when we saw the appetizer we asked her to cancel one of the main courses and she told us that was to late because they started the preparation (as restauranteur I understand) but our main course came out 35 minutes later.... ??? Then when we got the bill our suggested appetizer was $120 dollars. Be careful people, but this place is just taking advantage of tourists! They try to rip you off! For this kind of money I can eat in the best restaurants of the country!

Every single place along Ocean looks exactly the same to us tourists. They all have servers outside accosting you as you walk by with their "specials" (example: a very small portion of the menu qualifies for the $5 breakfast). Our waitress was very nice (she let us order from the breakfast menu even though it was past noon), but she screwed up our drink order twice. First she thought we wanted 6 Bull Dogs (a margarita with 2 Coronas in it) for six people, then when we explained that that would be excessive (c'mon, four is enough) she brought us daiquiris with Coronas instead. Not that there's much of a difference, but still. The food was nothing special and even at 2-for-1, the drinks were expensive. I can't tell you how it compares to the other identical restaurants along the strip, since we just went to the one, but you can probably find better places to eat.

This was my first time eating here - it was a pleasant experience! Granted all restaurants seem the same along this street, but we just decided on this one. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. We got a bunch of appetizers (each one was $4 and really only fed 2 people but we were a group of 4), and I got a side salad. The food was good, no complaints there! No complaints at all, actually. I wouldn't call this a "tourist trap" as others have. Yes it's probably a tad overpriced for what you receive but not unreasonable. It's also in a fantastic location to the beach.

Complimentary breakfast (we were staying at The Beacon) was the right price - nothing to write home about and it was cold, but I've had worse (see MGM Vegas). The service is what really earns the rating - I've had more attentive & friendlier servers at McDonald's. The drinks are excessively expensive & may not actually be what you ordered - ie. order the rail, since that is most likely what you are getting anyway. All in all - there are far better places to spend your time & money on south beach.

Terrible place!!! Do not go there. They are a scam!!! Not only do they take advantage of tourists but they also deceive you intentionally by making you think you are getting a good deal. Drinks are $25 and they are buy one get 1 free (same person) which they fail to mention until after you order. Waste of money.

Terrible restaurant.. The food is trashy and the price is really, really, really high. Don't go to this restaurant, EVER!!!

Was walking through the Ocean Ave strip, got pulled over by a pretty looking hostess. She enticed me to come in for the 2 for 1 happy hour special. Nice spot, the drink was was decent, but overpriced. No price on the menu, but it was actually a $25 drink. At least i got 2 of them. But damn, if it was $25 just for a mixed drink... i'd never go back. Sucks finding out the price when i get the menu, and not knowing beforhand. On a positive note, this place is great for people watching.

Good food and good service tonight, just don't order soft drinks because they will charge you $10 for each drink, ridiculous for a tap-cola.

This place is the ultimate tourist trap!!!! It would never sustain anywhere but on Ocean Drive in South beach where beach going visitors are recycled on a daily or weekly basis and pop in here on an unsuspecting whim. Our check came to 130 for nothing of substance: 1 blah salad, a crappy sandwich, 1 drink, and an appetizer. The appetizer was calamari that was probably the worst I have ever witnessed. No....no....and no do not come here : ))

Our waittress was great...totally on top of our large group of people. The drinks were fun and the atmosphere was killer. Awesome live entertainment!!! The dancer had machine guns for feet!!! The food was really good too. I highly recommend the mussels and the shrimp. Yum!

This place is a complete joke and a half. They begin by wooing you in with 2 for 1 drinks for happy hour, including a "free" shot. Your excitement escalates throughout the meal as spanish dancers captivate the audience. You are now hypnotized in ordering food. An APPETIZER platter, made up of mediocre seafood and chicken, sounds like a good choice if your not super hungry. You're happily chatting with your tipsy friends when the waitress drops the bill off and your buzz is completely shattered with a $300 bill, which included all 4 of the drinks that we ordered, 4 free shots and an appetizer platter. WHAT?!?!?!? After about half an hour of arguing with the useless waitress and manager about false advertisement, they simply explained that ALL four of us misunderstood when she supposedly said, "buy one drink, get your second one free." Oh excuse me if I'm wrong miss, I'm only paying the bill and tolerating your attempt at speaking about me in another language that I completely understand. After a failed attempt at fixing our bill, we simply asked her to remove the included tip. The waitress proceeded to give me attitude exclaiming that the tip is for everyone who is serving. Her audacity infuriated me to the point that I took the responsibility of creating this yelp account to vent about the most horrible experience I have ever had with a place meant to SERVE me with food AND customer service. Most importantly, I created this account to simply WARN you to steer clear of "The Place" because it's the exact representation of old school Miami mobsters robbing your wallets and saying that you're the one in the wrong.

My bf and I decided to eat here the other day and let me just say to be on ocean drive, I give this place 1 star. First of all, I ordered a margarita, it tasted awful. It was sweet, margaritas aren't even supposed to be sweet, but anyways I've never done this but I told the waiter I didn't like it and she brought me a "new one". It tasted even worst. Anyways, we had mussels as appetizer probably the only good thing we ate. My bf had some chicken plate which looked and tastes disgusting, I had a burger but how can you really mess that up. Anyways this place is over priced to the max, service was w.e. Food and drinks I give it 2 thumbs down!!!!!

We stopped for the happy hour 2 x 1...I had the worst Piña Colada ever...no alcohol and tasteless... The Margarita was horrible... Try to avoid this place if you're looking for a decent drink.

TOTAL RIP OFF. Do not go to this place. We got charge for every little thing. Ordered the bulldog and thought that the corona was part of the drink, to our surprise, we got charged for the 2 coronas. Their paella was $89. Who charges that much for a small plate of paella? We asked for an explanation for the price and the only thing the waitress came up with is "the more seafood you add to the food, the higher the price goes". Really, WTF? Again, I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE AND I RECOMMEND FOR EVERYBODY TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

Food is pretty good, prices are a rip off, $25 for a fuzzy navel ( only 1 size, large) 12.99 for a corona light. We had those + a shrimp cocktail with 5 shrimp - $65! Total tourist trap, go elsewhere.

After checking out the menus for a bunch of restaurants on Ocean Drive, a group of 4 of us decided on The Place. The hostess offered us the happy hour and 20% off our food. We had the raw oysters appetizer, which was standard. Three of us split 2 orders of the seafood pasta - with lobster, shrimp, etc.; one with red sauce and one with white. There was definitely enough food there that I'm really glad we didn't get a third order. Both orders didn't scrimp on the seafood and were quite good. For the happy hour, I had two pretty large mojitos for $16 -- and although I am somewhat of a lightweight, I definitely felt like I was swimming after those two drinks. I thought they were pretty strong. Gratuity is included in your bill, so the total for 4 people was $200 -- for the appetizer, 2 orders of the seafood pasta, one other pasta dish, and 4 happy hour drink orders (for a total of 8 drinks). For South Beach, not as bad as I was expecting, but not a deal either. If you want something less of a drain on your wallet and more authentic, don't go out to eat on Ocean Dr. There is a reason why every restaurant has a person trying to solicit you to eat there. Every restaurant seems to have a very similar menu to the next. If you caveat your meal with acknowledgement that it is a tourist trap area, then the restaurants will meet your expectations.

To summarize: This is a rip-off and stay as far away as possible from this place. For longer version, read on! I went to Miami with 3 other friends. While roaming on the Ocean drive, we decided to try some seafood restaurant and decided on The Place. They offered us 20% discount. The waiter was extremely attentive (annoyingly so, as he kept popping up every other minute). We asked him to suggest some good seafood dishes and he mentioned 2-3 of those. Cunningly enough, prices for these were not mentioned on the menu. As the highest priced item on menu was around $50, we assumed must be maximum in that range. Finally, when the bill came, it was a SHOCKER!! Fucking $689 for 3 orders. You got to be kidding me! And, when we were ordering, it was not even mentioned that it might cost this much! We asked for the 20% discount and were promptly told that it was already included. They had added 16% gratuity as well, just to make sure we do not get out so easy. Being just students, it almost ruined our budget for entire Florida trip! I think this was a highly unethical conduct and I'd highly encourage anyone to STAY AWAY FROM THIS rip-off place. To top it all, they charged the card $989, which we discovered after returning. Now, we trying to call and fix this. Overall, a really bad memory from Miami :( Being new to this country, I do not know how can I make some complaint to the consumer protection forum or something similar. It may not be illegal, what they did. But, it is highly immoral and unethical. And, if they think, they can continue such scam forever, they are sorely mistaken in today's internet connected world. My only mistake before entering The Place was not checking the review on Yelp. One reviewer had already given a warning about such shady tactics. I have also posted my review on Yelp and hope that many more will be saved from this scam.

I'm going to try to be as objective as I can as one who has a crush on the waiter who served us...I swear. Walking through throngs of people walking through us or seated at the ubiquitious sidwalk cafe/bistro/restaurants of Ocean Dr., swiping away the menus being thrust in our faces, one actually attracts the eye of our birthday girl. She wants to eat at The Place and we agree. We get a table inside (away from prying eyes and blood-thirsty bugs) and our waiter is attentive, responsive and has the face of a cherub dropped from heaven...but I digress. He explains to us that there's a two-for-one drink special going on, he entices us with the specials of the day, and thrills us with his dazzling smile. Well, not all of us--one of us decided to check the place (no pun intended?) out on Yelp. There we found that it's best to ask for the prices of the specials before you get your heart settled on any one...and ask what the catch is with the drink specials. So we did. The paella-for-two special that had me drooling was $102 by itself. Oh! And the drink specials? If you order the drink special you can't eat off the cheap menu (the $9.99 meal specials). I got the two-for-one drinks (which were fabulous...Long Beach Iced Tea...HUGE); mostly everyone else got the meal deal. Good luck. My plan was to be toasty all night--not tipsy...toasty--and I did just that. I did order two appetizers that were marginal at best (Calamari & Zucchini and the Crab Dip). It was aiight. I think that was the consensus of the table for all their meals (the tilapia, the caesar salad, blah blah blah). To wrap it up: the food wasn't bad but was on that Ocean Drive price tip, but the two-for-one drink special got me right together. Oh...and Cesar (sigh).

RIPOFF!!!!!!!!! Total Tourist Trap!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY- it's OVER PRICED & AWFUL!!!!!! I only gave it 1 star so that I could post a review. If possible I would give it a negative 10 stars!!!!!

I had a half dozen of raw oysters and Lobster with pasta and mussels in a white wine sauce... The restaurant itself and the staff were nice but the food was OVERPRICED specially when you can get the same exact plate in mainly all the restaurants in that strip for cheaper and probably better seasoning and a discount on drinks on top. The only thing I really truly enjoyed was the flamingo dancer and heart pounding sensual beats!

AVOID at all cost! Worst experience of my Miami trip! Extremely over-priced drinks $21 for large & 17 for small cocktails in the "Happy hour". The waiter (Nadia) intentionally gave wrong impression that it is 2 for 1 drinks but finally charged full price for both drinks as it was supposedly the second drink for each individual is free and not for couple but was mentioned differently to get you to sit first. I dont mind paying the price for good service but can't stomach liars and cheaters!

My sister and I ate here twice this weekend. The food was decent, albeit, overpriced. I guess we passed it off as expected for being on Ocean Drive in South Beach. We were already familiar with the 2 for 1 drink "deal" that so many others have complained about, but we actually drank 2 each and this isn't the only place that plays that game. The main complaint I have is the included gratuity that they didn't bother to mention EITHER time we dined here. Apparently that too, is a common practice in the area but we caught it ourselves at another establishment and another server at a different place told us they're required to make the customers aware. The service definitely wasn't worth a 35% tip. I wish I had my $25 back.

This place runs two scams that prey on tourists. 1) they have a "2 for 1" drink promo. So you think, cool... even though the first one will be over priced, I'll get a 2nd for free. I was there with my parents, I got a beer and so did my dad. When we got the bill, we were charged for 2 beers. I asked them to correct it, and they said the 2 for 1 was "per person", which I have never seen at any other bar in my life. The manager, who barely spoke English, tried to shoot down my claims of false advertisement by pointing to the "other restrictions my apply" BS at the bottom of the pamphlet. After arguing for 5 minutes, I paid for the food and drinks, but left no tip. 2) Speaking of tips... watch out. The bill they give you includes gratuity... don't pay them 2x, especially for terrible service.

After walking around with eight other tourists in Miami Beach, we started checking out the local food options. There is a plethora of restaurants with pushy servers and representatives passing out fliers to people passing by, and after getting no less than half a dozen fliers within just two blocks, we decided upon The Place Restaurant & Bar. The representative started throwing promotions in our faces, starting with free drinks for all three children with us. When we didn't bite, she said that she'll give us 20% off all the items in the regular menu (there's a "special menu" flier of a dozen items for $9.50 each). I made sure to go over the deal with her carefully, and she specified that it would be for any item they have, as long as it isn't on the special menu. Three of us ordered off the special menu, which was significantly cheaper than some of the items that are around $20 in the regular menu, which included your basic fare of American food choices. The $9.50 cheeseburger that two of us ordered looked incredibly naked - it came with just the Brioche bun, American cheese, and a handful of French fries. No lettuce, tomatoes, or vegetables of any sort. The chicken bacon wrap from the special menu looked big, but we soon found out that it was just very, very loosely wrapped and there was barely anything inside. My own vegetarian pizza at just under $13 was a 12-inch one that was rather tasteless. When the bill came, there was no mention of a 20% discount. Seems like they were hoping we would have just forgotten about it. After talking to our server, she brought out a new bill within 20 seconds. I got the feeling that both bills were printed and she decided to bring the full price one first, just to see if they can make more money off us. What's worse is that they only took 20% off the entrees, not the desserts (the $9.95 cheesecake was horrible, by the way), appetizers, drinks, or anything else. We didn't want to put up a fight, so we just paid the bill as another group of people who had just fallen into a tourist trap.

BEWARE the overpriced specials! My daughter and I spent one night on south beach, and enjoyed walking Ocean Drive trying to choose one of the many outdoor restaurants which all seemed the same. We later found out they are almost all owned by the same guy, so they are the same. Anyway, we were staying at the Beacon Hotel (great place for the price) and decided to try the one there. It was packed on Sunday at 6:30 pm so we figured it was ok. Most items on the menu were from $16-25 so when the waitress told us about the specials, without mentioning how much each one cost, I chose the paella. She mentioned that you could get it for 1 person or for 2, and I chose the single portion. She asked if I would like lobster with it, and being from Boston where a lobster tail would not cost more than an additional $15, I decided to splurge. We were on vacation! So you cannot believe my shock when the bill came and the paella cost $89! I asked the waitress if there had been a mistake and she might have charged me for the double portion, and she replied that it was correct, the double portion costs $165! I was horrified. I am sure this ruse has been pulled many times, and what can one do after the meal has been eaten? I was so aggrieved that it prompted me to write my first review on Yelp. The rest of the meal was good, my daughter had the crab soup ($8) and a salad. Just eat off the menu and you should be ok.

I had the eggs benedict, which i thought tasted good. They were definitely smaller than what I'm used to having, however, the sweet bread they used for the benedict was quite tasty. This dish came with potatoes and toast and was worth the price of $8. My husband had the French toast. It came with 3 small, thin slices, which was pre-baked with cinnamon swirls already in them. They tasted okay, but it was nothing to get excited over. The butter looked like whip cream and they gave us pre-packaged syrup. Both of which i avoided. Then again, that was my husband's dish and he seemed to enjoy it. Overall, it was a decent experience.

All and All. This place is Horrible. It was the first place we had dinner at in Miami and the first place to sheem us. The special sign is what drew us in, not the people dancing on Stage. i had a taste for Wings and they had a $3.99 special on hot Wings. So of course me and my sis are like Deal. Not paying much attention to the picture next side the deal with 3 wings and plate full of foliage. Lord and behold that's what we Got ! Although the wings were mediocre at best I still ate them. My sister past hers right along to me because she was far from impressed. My mother's food was partly descent, but the bill for her drink out shined that ! it might as well been $20 for a daiquiri and we wont discuss the 18% gratuity for a lousy waiter that we didn't notice when we slipped him another 5. Honestly i couldn't wait to get on here just to rate them terrible. Avoid at all cost. Unless you want to pay the cost. . . .

Great spot. Great service. All I had was the continental breakfast that was included with my room. But it was excellent. This place is pricey. But as I've learned it is everywhere in SoBe. Sit outside and watch the people go by or have one of their 55 gallon drum sized drinks and join the party.

Warning: This is a tourist's review. Read on, if you choose. My girlfriend and I were walking down Ocean Drive from our hotel and decided to stop here for lunch (Wednesday, early June) once the hostess offered us two complementary drinks. After we sat down, a large, bald headed man came over to us, and noted he was going to bring us two shots of alcohol. Whoa, do I look like a lush to you, sir? We asked for a sex-on-the-beach and a mojito. He blabbed on some jibberish for about a minute, which I barely understood. But to make it simple for him I kept telling, fine - two mojitos, two mojitos, two mojitos. He brings them out, and they were on par (minus a small knat in one of the drinks). We ordered from a special post-card menu with a variety of options (approx. a dozen) all for 9.50 each. I got pasta with chicken and red sauce and my g/f got the mussels linguine. Both pastas were cooked nicely - al dente, and had a good flavor to them (compared to what I expected), but there was barely any chicken in my pasta. I'm satisfied for what I paid for, and give this place an A-OK rating of 3 stars.

This place is ok. The only reason to go here is to drink and watch people as they walk thru ocean drive. That's it, don't expect much else but to have some huge ass drinks that get you buzzed. I had a good time!

New Years eve we were looking for somewhere on Ocean Ave to eat a dinner that was not price fixe. My friend who was staying nearby took a walk during the day past the restaurants and found this one looked at the menu and asked if this were the menu for tonight. They told her it was. She in turn made a reservation for 8 people at 9:15. We thought we were set for the night. We sit down at a great table for people watching and the waitress tells us there are no more menus. She can't find any. But she does have drink menu's and can tell us what is on a special menu for tonight for food. She hands us the drink menu and what we don't realize is it has no prices on it. But you know they are going to be a little pricey considering it is New Years. So we order 8 drinks. Then they bring out the enormous margaritta style glasses that are about the size of four drinks. We figured okay New Years its a party and one would be good for the whole night. (we are not huge drinkers anyway). After that she proceeds to let us know what is on the menu for the night (remember she could not find any of the printed out ones my friend saw during the afternoon) she said there were only six dishes being offered. 3 fish and 3 meat.....told us what the were and when asked the prices were told they ranged form 55.00 to 75.00 each. Needless to say we were in shock. We still did not realize at this point we were scammed. So we decided we would each split one dish and only order 4. I noticed that waitresses were bringing back menu's and putting them by the hostess stand so I walked over and grabbed one and sure enough it was a regular menu that they were indeed letting some people use. I called over the manager and told her that we made the reservation during the day based on the regular menu that was handed to my friend and she agreed to let us use the regular menu. Now the bill comes and the drinks were $35.00 each.....yes you heard right! we were shocked but it was our fault for not asking....what a rip off. Then for one of the dishes that we did order off of the New Years eve price fixe menu that my friend and I decided to share that was supposed to be $55.00 they charged us double telling us it was a sharing charge that we never were told about when we said we want to share this dish.....what would have happened if we all ended up eating off the price fixe and sharing like we were going to do before they gave us back the regular menu. At that point I stood up and yelled call a Cop. I was done. I felt like I had been robbed at gun point without a gun. The bill came to a bogus $600.00 for 6 dishes and 8 drinks and the food was as bland as could be. Very mediocre at best. And I would be very dissapointed if I had to pay nominal prices for it as it was that bland..... and did I mention we had to wait almost 2 hours for the salad to come out. Here is the best........the table next to us final got there salad to come out (they were seated before us) and the server brought it to our table so he put in down in front of my daughters friend and she started eating out of it. We were telling him we were the wrong table it was not our order so he came and took the salad back after she had eaten out of it and served it to the table next to us. We were all yelling you can't do that and the people next to us were grossed out and got up and walked out and no one at the restaurant could understand why everyone was so mad. When we got back from vacation my husband called the So Beach Chamber of commerce numerous times to let them know about it and he got the name of the person to call and when he called it was like a personnal number or the guys regular business and the person took a message to call my husband back and he never heard back.....Great! I would not recommend this to my friends nor my enemies .
