I was in Miami on vacation and was tired of spending a gazillion dollars to eat a meal. I was strolling along Washington Ave and spotted Thali. I don't really dig Indian food, but I really like me some pad thai, so that's what I got--the veggie pad thai. It was pretty good--maybe worth the $10. I also got an order of naan, and I love bread, so it was delicious. I took mine to go, so I can't really comment on the atmosphere. But the waiter seemed nice enough! Overall, I would recommend Thali for a decent and not too expensive meal.

Unfortunetly, today will be my last meal at Thali. I've eaten here at least 10 times for their buffet lunch but they have all of a sudden raised their prices to $20 for their lunch buffet and they no longer offer tandori chicken for the buffet. There was no reason to raise the prices nor not offer tandori chicken, the only thing I can think of is that they are having money problems and will probably close soon which means they are probably cutting back on their quality which is unfortunate.

went their for the buffet which is overpriced for the quantity of food they have to select from. from my experience I think most of the food, especially the curries, I could have brought them from a indian grocery store in the frozen aisle and microwaved it myself. needless to say I was disappointed...

Only one word can describe this place: Horrible! They're now only indian but that wasnt the issue. We love indian food but this was unacceptable. They had run out of lassis (at 6pm). The pakoras had been refried and had a dried taste. The chicken curry was a disaster. The chicken chunks tasted like they had been cooked a week ago and some inedible curry sauce. The poori and garlic naan breads were disappointing too. Service was ok but when the owner walked thru the empty restaurant he just looked at us and walked by. A homeless person starring at us thru the window in the beginning was an omen. Would he have stayed til the end we would have given him all the food we left behind.

it was start of long weekend....we wer soo hungry and wer looking for some good veggie restaurant around for dinner.. accidently we came right in front of Thai indian restaurant....we though it was blessing in disguise...place was okay...pretty standard ambiance....they were short on staff....only 2 servers in whole restaurant...we got there about 8ish and it was 25%full at that time....and people started coming in like crazy in less than 30 mins and the place was full with waiting guests....we wer expecting excellent food but disappointed....anyways the food was ok...not that great...it was average....waitress was trying hard to catch up with orders...we got food after a while....but short of staff and average food gets only 2 stars..

Probably the worst meal we had in Miami, well i mean it was late, we were tired, hungry and semi/drunk but food was slow to come out, service was okay. Our waiter was a sweet guy, it's not like he could do much since the food came out so slow, but overall we were not impressed with the food. Highly dissapointing, especially since it was like our first meal in Miami... Wah' Will not be back to this place...sorry.

So happy to have found this place! Delicious "lunch" buffet with appropriate hours (12-5pm) for the Beach crowd lol. Celiac/gluten-free friendly with great service. It's my new favorite indian spot in the beach for sure! The coconut curry is my fave.

I have been going to Thali's about twice a month since they have opened because of the great food, great price and location. The food has a very delicate taste, not overly spiced like I have tasted in other restaurants in Miami. They have a number of unique plates and cater very well to vegans and vegetarians. The prices are a great value for South Beach ! I am already looking forward to my next visit.

I went there while on vacation and had wanted some good Indian food. I forced my bf to go with me (he has never eatin Indian food and was sure he would hate it). The reviews were mixed so I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. The food (butter chicken) was awesome and the garlic naan was great. We ordered the chicken tandoori app which lacked flavor but everything else was delicious. I would absolutely go back. The service was good and the restaurant was clean.

Because its right off the beach it is over priced. Manhattan rates for Miami beach. Food was just average. Very loud music. Restrooms were dark and dirty.

Delicious!!! I love Indian and Thai and they did it right!! The service was great!! The iced sweet green tea tasted like flower nectar.. Amazing!! It was spicy but not too spicy.. The breads were wonderful and different and with the sauces.. Im in love!! My new fave place!!!!

After reading several reviews we decided to give Thali a try. We ordered a Diamond Thali which comes with a variety of small (really small apparently) dishes. It was quite obvious that the food was not fresh and lacked good flavor. Of the 5 little dishes only the Chicken Tikki Masala was good, but not great. I wish the best for this restaurant but unless their food improves they're not going to make it.

I can't believe anyone could rate this food as even half decent. We ordered delivery to our hotel and it came an hour late, which is ridiculous considering it was 3 miles away. That could be forgiven if the food was good, but the quality was awful. I ordered spicy Thai basil, which was drenched in sauce that was not spicy or very flavorful. The spicy vegetable salad was such poor quality-it had iceberg lettuce, which is pretty much only acceptable at a restaurant in the form of a wedge salad. My sister's channa masala was ok, but the mango chutney that came with the naan ( also flavorless), tasted like it came from a jar. Just bad all around...if you know good Thai or Indian this will be disappointing.

The best word to describe this place is...Yummy! I never knew I liked Indian food till now. As we speak im craving the tomato coconut soup with a side of garlic or cheese naan. Cant wait to try their tikki masala sauce. Oh i get excited thinking about this, ok im going to go order it. Try this place its awesome the only reason they didnt get that last star is because the place was empty and the food took a while. the decor is cheesey. But food is well worth it.

pretty good indian "fusion" cuisine. I have been here several times and would recommend the pakora, lamb tikka, and chicken tikka. Service is questionable, which is why it looses a star. They have both a thai and an indian menu, which are both generally good.

Desperate times cause for desperate measures... Which is pretty much what happened when we ate here. There was a group of us and we were starving so we basically looked for whatever we could find that was decent. Yelp kind of lied to us about this place. Its basically a mix between Thai and Indian. I ordered a mushroom cheese Dosa and they told me they didn't have any. Huh? Are you out of all Dosas? They replied w/ yes we don't have the batter... Umm... okay... So I decided not to order anything and just eat off of everyone else b/c we ordered a LOT of food. Later the waiter came up to me and was like.. we have the Dosas now... What? oh okay.. please order me one. It was pretty good and I scarfed it down b/c I was so hungry. One of my friends ordered a Chicken something... some Indian Chicken dish that she orders often at Indian restaurants. She was less than pleased when it came out. She said it didn't even look right. She told me, "Its like you ordered chicken and they brought out fish" They also have a bar w/ beer taps but don't serve any alcohol. We did see some tables w/ bottles of wine so I guess you can BYOB here. Good to know if we were to ever come back.. which after our first experience I find it highly unlikely.

the worst place ever went!! WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE..run next door if you have to ! the food isn't the greatest, the staff aren't friendly (bored of their mind), customer complaints next to us about how disgusting their food was......the wine was flat, been open for hours.....no wonder there is no customer in here!!!

Excellent, excellent, excellent! I was driving by on Washington Avenue the other day and noticed a sign that said 'Indian & Thai' I immediately knew I would try it. A few days later, I went back with the boyfriend and although the rest. is quite large and there were only a few tables filled, we didn't care. It was all about the food. We ordered the pappadam app., the chicken makahni, peas and potatoes and finally the galub jamun for dessert. Totally delicious! I consider myself quite the Indian food connoisseur and this place did not disappoint. I have been trying different Indian places around Miami for years and haven't found anything quite as good. Recently ordered take-away just to make sure it wasn't beginner's luck! It's not. The food is amazing and I highly recommend this place - it's not super chic or fancy, but definitely worth a try for a casual dinner on the beach. Four rather than five stars, because I don't love the atmosphere. Bon appétit!

Kind of surprising that they charge for mango chutney and raita.

Tried this last week because good Indian and Thai food is hard to find on South Beach. First off, Thali is an Indian restaurant that makes Thai food; the decor suggests as much, and so does the menu. But my wife and I were in a Thai mood, and we ordered pad thai and the basil vegetable dish. They were both delicious. Would have been happy if we had paid twice as much. We will definitely be switching to Thali as our go to Thai food. Can't wait to try the Indian food.

Food: Average Indian food Service: Great Ambiance: Informal Price: Reasonable (for SoBe) Mysore masala dosa: Batter was not tasty, sambaar and chutney were not tasty. Paneer butter masala and Naan: Not bad. Not great either.

  • Qing Y.

The food here is delicious! Who knew that one can find such an excellent Indian restaurant on SoBe?! I ordered a diamond Thali, which a combination of many little plates. My favorites were the shrimp and lamb curry and tandoori chicken. The beet dessert was excellent! The price for food is modest, and if I will be back if I visit SoBe next time.

Was quite and empty but food was so flavorful and yummy. And quick and great prices and service. We had the sampler plate and tried nothing bad from our selections. Very authentic feel and nice place for date or casual dinner.

A group of us visiting from NJ went for the buffet lunch. Food was average (at best) ... many dishes in the buffet were empty, service was rudimentary, ambiance was tired. The price for a buffet lunch - $20 per plate! (the last was my bad, I missed the price posted at the door). They almost seem to regret the business. Avoid!!

I went with a friend who knew a lot about Indian food. Which was great for me, because the menu is pretty much in Indian without explanations. The waitress was very helpful, but the menu was to big to have her explain everything. My friend basically ordered for us, the three of us shared a "Thali", a platter that comes in different sizes, with tasting portions of your selection of proteins and veggies. We added on a few dishes and had an appetizer and an extra dessert. I thought the food was very good; but cannot comment on the 'authenticity; because I don't know very much about Indian food. But the owner is Indian and so is the chef, so I guess that helps with the authenticity factor. Nice space, nothing exciting; but service was good, and helpful when needed. And did I mention cheap! The 3 of us left full and the check was only $36!! (No drinks) Thali platters are between $10.99 -14.99, extra sides are $2.99-$3.99. All entrees seem to be under $12 Very good value, we'll be back

I'm a vegetarian, that means I don't eat meat "or chicken". Some vegetarian friends sold us the place by telling us that they have an extensive veggie menu and cheap prices. They were right :) I went with my boyfriend. We went biking so we didn't have any parking problems. We were the second table to be seated so it was kind of empty. Our first impression was "Too elegant to be so cheap". She gave us the menu and I think it was the worst part of our experience; Overwhelming. The typographic election was the worst for the amount of information there. I felt I was reading a 18th Century letter. Luckily the waitress was very helpful and explained us the menu. They don't sell alcohol yet because they recently opened and still don't have a liquor license. But they don't have any problems with you bringing your own. If fact they encourage you to go to the liquor store next door :) We ordered a Silver Thali (salad, papadam, choice of 3 vegetarian, rice, bread and a dessert ) for 10.99 and a Nirvana Thali (soup, rice, a choice of 3 vegetarian and a dessert) for $11.99. We waited for our food with the sound of Hardcore Indian techno. We noticed that the flowers where plastic, the ceiling lamps were the cheapest one from Ikea (we know because we have one) and the lamp was the bar's vase as well. Suddenly we realized we were in a tacky fine dining. The food came all together(soup dinner and dessert at the same time) The service was divine as well as the food. The Massaman Vegetable (sweet potatoes in coconut milk) were awesome and the donut dessert (as the waitress described it) was a sin. The portion was very generous. We had a very good food & service experience after all, so I think we can live with the techno and the tacky decoration. I haven't gotten over the menu but you can always ask for the take out which is more legible and clean. At the end I saw a little sanctuary at the entrance with 3 little plates. They where after meal spices. The green one was my favorite. I totally recommend this place.

My experience here was great. They had some great food for the lunch buffet, including a very nicely saucy vegetable dish, and the naan bread was so good (like, seriously some of the best naan I've ever had). Also-- pleasant & friendly service :)

I went at 3pm for lunch buffet. I called couple times for directions and info and the person the phone was very nice. That I'll give them a point. I asked if I could look at their food before I got the buffet.$14.95!! The food looked gross!!! Thick dried almost like s**t. I was very hungry but decided to walk away. I rather go hungry than eat something that looks like crap for $14.85! When I walked in the waitress was just sitting watching tv. No one greeted. And the only couple of customers in stared at me like I was from outer space! They let me use the bathroom. It was ok. So I will give them another point for courtesy. But I ended up walking out hungry. I just didn't think I could eat there ever! Hope they can read this and do better.

Superb Indian food! The waiter / proprieter is so friendly and knowledgable about the menu. I have only eaten from the Indian side of the menu. I have eaten the "Thali" lunch special, where diners receive a choice of 4 courses including a dessert item. The choices were great and included the standard chicken tikka, some vindaloos (spicy!) and lots of veggie options! My favorite was definitely the eggplant! I also have enjoyed the lunch buffet. I was there yesterday and the buffet had 2 types of rice (white basmati and a biryani) as well as a veggie curry, an eggplant stew, a potato dish, lentils, a chicken option and goat. Also, vegetable pakoras and all of the accoutremonts - mango chutney, a minty sauce, pickled pickles and yogurt raita. Plus two desserts - a coconut pudding and the little donuts in rosewater syrup. The buffet lunch comes with naan and some kind of a tandoori chicken leg. The buffet food was great and tasted very fresh. I don't each chicken or goat, but the BF said that both meats were very tender and flavorful, even though they were in the steam tray. Two thumbs up! Definitely the best Indian around!

Very salty. We had to throw away two overpriced dosas because the filling itself was so salty and the dosa itself as tough as shoe leather. Very disappointing.

  • Jason W.

This is a very decent takeout place and has a solid lunch buffet. The one common denominator, though, is that the prices are high -- both for the a la carte menu and for the lunch buffets. The weekend one is something like $25-28.

  • Roy M.

On a positive note, the naan breads were good, veggie curries were decent and the czech waitress was sweet and obliging. My issue is that the shrimp dish I had was mediocre, and the chicken tandoori was downright tough. We sent it back, but were still charged for it. My wife specifically asked for "no cilantro" and it came loaded with it... worse - the headwaiter attempted to gloss over that, instead of obliging. Thali - please do grow up.

I want to start this review by saying I never write reviews and I often never publicly voice distaste for a restaurant... That being said I was was highly disappointed with my visit to Thali last night. I am indian and try to support to couple of Indian spots here on the beach,.. I trekked pass guru down to thali bc I had not been there on a while. As I enter I can't tell who works there ... No one addresses me.. A few mins later I finally ask if I should just fit anywhere... And I get waved off " yea sit" . Ok... I sit ... Another party comes in and go thru the same except the grab there own menu... So I get back up and get my own menu ... Up to this point I'm ok no biggie. I order the Ginger Lamb Curry, which I've had there a few times before by dine in and take out. I should say that I'm Indian and have been eating curry since in the womb... When it arrives, it's red and I taste it... It's all tomato no hint if curry or ginger! I call over waitress, she says that there is tomatoes in the GLC I'm like ok but there is no curry? She calls over the Indian waiter who's served me before... He tries to reassure me that it is GLC like ok fine... This follows him grabbing the menu and heading straight back to to kitchen and talk loudly to he cook... I try to eat a couple bites but finally decide I don't want what I didn't order... I call him back over and he decides to make me a GLC right away... Finally I'm excited for my meal as its what I came there for.. And here is the worse part! It comes and it's the same dish I have but with a bunch of ginger thrown in!!!! I'm like are you serious... I'm I some fool!!! This was insulting. I say nothing further, ask for the bill, pay , and leave...I paid $27 plus tip for a soup and a main course not the cheapest meal for one person... At least give me whato ordered!

Went there on the advice of friends. They had the buffet, but I had to eat that there, and I was picking up lunch for a friend and I. I ordered the vegetarian sampler platter and the tandoori baked chicken. Both were great. The side sauces were great, and the salads were fresh. I intend on going back soon to check out the buffet.

All i can say is Sad! The waiters hair piece almost fell in our food, the menu is Thai and Indian. You can still smell the rotten beeer of the bar the place used to be, The food is good, not memorable or worth returning for. Go find a great place!

  • Luis M.

It's a shame - I wanted to love this place so much and instead, it just left me flat. The food was just OK - nothing special. I think the flavors were taken down several notches (not just heat, also spice) to appeal to the masses. All I got was bland chicken, bland sauces, and crunchy, almost inedibly burnt naan.

I have been very impressed with the Indian food at Thali every time I have ordered for delivery or eaten in. Their dosas are spectacular, my favorite being the Mysore Masala Dosa which comes with a spiced potato filling and assorted chutneys. This is a giant crepe so it can be a meal for one or is also great for sharing. Another favorite is Chicken Tikka, which brings perfectly cooked chicken breast pieces out of the tandoor oven every time, they have an interesting variation on this in a Mint marinade as well. These two come accompanied by onions, lemon and some chutneys. If you want to try a few different things get the Thali meal which will bring lots of small versions of many of their currys and dahls. Get some version of Nan bread on the side. Drink Kingfisher beer with your meal. Order Gulab Jamun for dessert. Grab a handful of breath freshening seeds on your way out, from the platter at the door. What else could you ask for? It's perfection. Owner/manager is always very gracious and service has been very attentive on all visits. Only drawback is the space, which used to be a live music venue, it lacks in atmosphere and they always have three TV's going behind the bar. I would love if those got turned off and they invested a little more into Indian decor, (Maharaja style) but for now this is as good as it gets for Indian food on South Beach. Oh, and they do have a lunch buffet, which I have yet to try.

Thali comes very correct where Guru (down the street and closed for some time now) never did. Their lunch buffet is a great value. When I went yesterday with a friend just about everything I wanted was on the menu. Also, the meal comes with naan. The ambiance is nice, and the restaurant is spacious. It's a great mini getaway from the the office. Next time I have to go there even hungrier. :)

thali, im so happy i found you. ive been eating dead animals like theres no tomorrow since i moved back to miami, but i had been craving a nice vegetarian meal for a while...i didnt know where to go for something vegetarian and substantial here in south beach until i found thali. i decided to check thali out after reading the positive reviews. the first time i was there it was for dinner. their menu is kinda interesting. its indian/thai. strange combination to say the very least but who am i to judge? like, seriously. second time i went to thali was for their lunch buffet and i thought it was a pretty awesome deal. for $11 you get to choose from many options, vegetarian and non vegetarian. they even brought me some chicken tandoori to my table without me even asking for it! sweet. i know i will be back to thali, probably for their lunch buffet!

We were wary of the reviews, but being lovers of south asian cuisine we had to give it a try. Probably rates 3 1/2 stars based on our first experience. We ordered "safe " foods that are hard to go wrong (dosa and butter chicken). And were quite pleased. The dosa was substantial and done properly an the chicken was good. Prices were reasonable for the beach and as we were leaving we picked up their delivery menu in case we want to be exceptionally lazy and have good food show up on our doorstep. I will have to try the more difficult dishes before I will be willing to go to higher.

My ratings say it all. Went for a buffet yesterday; it was hard to tell the difference in taste between the two chicken dishes that they had. Moreover did not find anything that was tasty. Service gets a 2 * and so does the cleanliness or general appearance

My favorite thing about this place is the fact that it's BYOB (no liquor license yet, I think they are working on one though) and the prices are actually pretty cheap. The servers have been friendly both times I was there. I haven't tried the Thai food here yet, but this Indian dishes I have tried have been decent. Not the best, but better than some other places I have had Indian food in Miami. The mysore masala dosa has been good both times I had it. The potatoes are seasoned nicely and the chutney dipping sauces are decent. The sambar vegetables were not spicy at all. The flavors were good, I was just expecting it to have SOME spice since the waitress said it was the spiciest thing on the menu... I think they may have forgot to add spice to ours. On the other hand, we also had the oothapan with chillies, pepper and onion (you can pick three toppings) & that was spicy! I'm not sure what kind of chilies they use, but consider yourself warned... they are HOT (good hot if you like spicy like me). The rice kheer was sweet and a delicious way to end the meal. They have a lot of options on the menu, so I will probably continue to visit the place and will update my review accordingly.

On a business trip in Miami and ordered delivery. Was told it would be 30 minutes it was more like an hour. However the delivery guy was super adorable so that's a plus :) the portions were on the small side. We got the lamb rogan josh, chicken tandoori, shrimp vindaloo, peshwari, garlic nann, and chicken madras. Overall the food itself was delicious. However for the price, I was expecting much larger portions. Slightly hungry and my head is sore from being smacked.

Very good and reasonably priced Indian food. Quite a nice atmosphere as well. I consider myself a Fried Rice connoisseur and theirs is *amazing*!! Especially the egg fr. Pretty much all of their dishes are good. I've had the vegetable pakora which is flavorful and crunchy and not very oily. Their chilli shrimp and cauliflower are definitely something you need to try next time you visit them. My guy friends always order the masala dosa and alway rave about it. I think Thali being the only restaurant that offers South Indian food has nothing to do with it though. :) Their Indian coffee and chai are super refreshing and while you're at it try their dessert - the Gulab Jamun and Kheer to be exact. A place you should definitely check out!

I almost choked on the food while scarfing it down because it was so good. Just kidding. I was scarfing my food down because I wanted to run out of there Usain Bolt style. On a Tuesday night, pretty much the whole Indian population of South Beach will congregate here along with their crying babies. There was a little girl next to me whose parents kept telling her to sit down. How hard is it to literally bend your knees and sit down? But NooOOo, she just kept crying as if the more she cried, the better the food would be. If only that were true. The Chicken Tikka Masala which is supposed to be the most popular out of Indian cuisine came cold and watered down. Some parts of the chicken felt like a carrot and were tough and dryer than my elbow. The cauliflower manchurian was pretty darn good but the waiter didn't give us any plates. There we were trying to eat off a tiny plate and you best believe there was cauliflower running all over the table. If only I heeded the warnings of yelpers below because the service was HORRIBLE. I had to run up to the counter to ask for just plates. I can't believe it. Like aforementioned, you can't tip poorly to compensate for the horrible service because it is already included. After leaving, my mom asked me, "How many bugs do you think we ate?" If you want real soul food, go to Miss Saigon next door. They are friendly, good genuine people and will serve you well :)

You guys should change your cook if you want to stay in business. Almost everything I ate was either undercooked or overcooked in the buffet. Heck I cook way better than this. The chicken Masala tasted like Campbell's tomato soup with cardboard pieces masquerading as chicken. The ala carte Aloo paratha was pretty good though. The waiter was himself worth 5 stars though... But I am here to eat ... Not to be served. Hence this rating.

We ordered everything to be spicy but the food wasn't even medium spicy. Spinach pakora came with yogurt where most of the places serve it with either cilantro chutney or tamarind chutney. Horrible pakora. Next was cauliflower manchurian which was plain red color without any taste. It was super mild. Chicken makhani was ok. The coconut chutney with Paper Dosa was wasted. The food doesn't worth even a penny. They really need to change the chef!!!

Utter shit. This place would be perfect in some cholera ravaged remote village in India. First off the Miami Dade health department needs to be notified about the cleanliness and putrid stench emanating from this shithole. Second the immigration services need to be told about the sweatshop like conditions the workers there are facing. Now let's get to details: The workers couldn't be more obvious of the fact that they really don't want to be there and only collecting a paycheck to support their families in India. There was absolutely no service, the food came late, we had to yell at them like slave drivers in a southern plantation to get these guys to do some work. And the audacity for them to add a 15% tip was insane!!! I am actually going to lodge complaints against this feces infested craphole with the BBB, health department and immigration department. The food was ok but overpriced. I am from NYC and we don't even pay these kinds of prices!!! I hope the owner of this joint is arrested and thrown in jail for the racketeering he is doing here. But don't you worry- I am notifying the authorities and health department for the sake of Miami Beach and the rest of society.

Very friendly and attentive service, unusual for Miami Beach. Food was incredible. We ordered a Dosa and a saucy dish with rice that was recommended by waiter and was amazing. I love Indian food and tonight have added some new favorites to my list. Only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they don't have wine.

I love their ginger lamb curry and lamb biriyani. The owner is a very friendly guy, the staff are courteous and nice. Its been for a year that i have been going here. They are very accommodating and sometimes you get dishes made accordingly to your taste buds.

Pretty decent food in South Beach. Very quick delivery to our hotel room. They do add alot of color to the north indian vegetable curries but the taste was pretty decent. Roce is served but wish some other salad or papad were also served. A bit on the expensive side but open on tuesdays which was a plus as most restaurants are closed. Garlic naan was a bit burnt bt still pretty decent.

Food was decent, but everything else was severely lacking. We walked in to a warm restaurant while it was really hot outside. They had barely any circulation and it was stuffy. The waiter was barely audible and didn't know anything about the menu, having to go back and ask the chef. We finally ordered and the food took forever to come out, even though there was not a single person other than our party in the restaurant. One of the rice dishes came out nearly forty minutes after ordering, by which time most everyone had finished eating. Even though we'd requested it to be extra spicy, there was no heat at all. All the waiter mumbled was "I told the chef". And after all this, they automatically included a 20% gratuity. The nerve! I would avoid this place altogether and go to Guru instead. What a disappointment.

What drove me here was the appetizers I read on the menu for the Gobi and chicken starter online. When I arrived at the restaurant about 6:30 pm and we were the only people in there. It was about 90 degrees in the restaurant and the waiter informed us that the air conditioner wasn't working. My first impression of this place was they needed serious renovations. Everything looked old and dirty. For no one being in the restaurant, it was very unorganized. Half tables were set, some with glasses some not. I was with 2 other people, and was missing one set of silverware till I asked for some. We ordered the cauliflower 65 starter and chicken pakora starter which were pretty good. I than ordered saag paneer, 1/2 shrimp tandoori dish, curry chicken, and garlic naan. I have to admit the saag paneer wasn't the way I usually get it, however it was really good. It was brown color with not a lot of spinach. The curry chicken was another story. The purée looked and tasted like they dumped a Campbell's tomato soup into the plate. When I read the description it said coconut and cumin. So I have a feeling they gave me the chicken tikka masala instead since that contains tomato. All the portions were tiny. Usually Indian restaurants have a great amount. These were little dog food bowls for a chihuahua. For the price it was definitely not worth it. I informed the waiter about the curry chicken and he apologized and didn't offer me anything else and when receiving the check there was no discounts or comps. We only touched the chicken curry to taste it, but it was a full dish not eaten. I asked the waiter if he could at least discount the chicken curry. He agreed and took about 6 dollars off my check. I feel they should of did that without me having to ask. While we were eating we were also all sweating bc of the heat. It wasn't a good mix with eating Indian food. The chicken curry was also $16.99, enclosed I put a picture of how it looked and how small it was. The shrimp tandoori was also tiny.

We used this restaurant for catering for a party and the food was truly remarkable! The guests were all asking about where the food came from. We ordered way too much thinking it was better to have extra than be short for our guests and there was a plan that after the event we would give leftovers to a food program for the needy, but by the end of the party there were no leftovers! People ate to their fill and carried away what they couldn't on paper plates. Nothing but empty platters were left. Very happy with Thali Indian Restaurants' food and service.

Number one bummer about living on the beach: the dearth of indian food. I've only ordered from here once and I had the staple of chicken tikka masala. It was really sweet, which was unpleasantly surprising. I ordered it to be medium spicy - perhaps if it had been spicier it would have tasted less sweet. The naan was fine, nothing spectacular but not bad either.

We came here while we were on vacation in Miami. The food was ok and he service was not great at all. We had to keep asking the waiter for stuff that he kept forgetting to top off which he was a bit demeaning to us. He got better over time and engaged in some friendly conversation with us later the whole experience was not good.

Do NOT eat in this restaurant nor do take out. I live in the same building in which Thali is located. This place is FILTHY! It seems they do not regularly wash their linen upon which I have found encrusted food particles that can be flicked off with your finger and are also smeared with grease. These are not stains that were left over from a wash. They are actual pieces of food. Thali does not even try to hide them. All they do is turn them around, not turn over, and cover the cloths with see through glass. Trust me, I know because I have made it a point to check their grimy cloths on more than one occasion. DO NOT SIT BY THE WINDOW SILLS. They, too, are filthy with dirt, dust, ants, and I have seen roaches on their walls. I have taken them to task on all of this, however they do nothing. I can't tell you if their upholstery has ever been cleaned because there are black stains from what could very likely be customers' bodily oils. Their kitchen staff does not wear gloves while handling the food. Their air conditioner has not worked in many months; they use 2 fans located on their bar, which is no better at which to sit. The staff subsequently is sweating while handling the food and drinks. Just today I watched a produce delivery van drop off product to the outside, rear of the restaurant. I saw an onion on the dirty ground. I told them to please throw it out. The manager or the possible owner, whomever, instructed the worker to discard the onion, however the worker was attempting to convince the manager/owner to use it! The manager asked me to never return to Thali. This is no problem as I had already decided to never go back after my recent experience of seeing all this continued disgusting filth. Please note, I have already reported Thali to the Better Business Bureau and to the Florida Department of Environmental Health.

This is one of two highly ok indian restaurants on Miami Beach. I went here for dinner once and left after appetizers. I had ordered the Assorted Vegetarian Starter Platter and it was super oily! You could not taste the actual food just the oil. I didn't want to take my chances with the main course so I didn't stay on. Also, like a lot of other reviews say the service here is terrible. The restaurant was practically empty when I got there and there was one waitress who was sitting on one of the dining tables and was busy on her phone. She didn't notice me for a whole 10 minutes and then I had to ask her for menus and water and so on. Would only go back if I am really craving indian food and definitely not get any of the fried appetizers

I just had lunch there with my wife! Banu was our server, very friendly and helpful! The vegetable Samosa was delicious, and so was the Chana Massala and the Aloo Mattar. I took one star away because the lunch buffet wasn't well described and it was in a dark area where we could really see what was there! We will be back!

Went for a quick bite. The food was average at best and on the pricey side. The ambience was poor with the place outdated. Understaffed with them trying their best to help. Would not recommend it to friends or family.

I read the reviews before I went there and I was a little apprehensive. Wife and I ordered two appetizers and dinner entrees. Appetizers: cauliflower 65 and Chicken 65. Entrees: Chola Bhature and Shrimp Vindaloo. We both liked our orders and I compliment the South Indian chefs. This is a SouthI Indian restaurant. So, order South Indian food. Choke Bhature is a north I Dian dish and she still liked it. The Nann (North Indian bread) could of been better. It was too crispy.

  • Dharshini Y.

The food wasn't actually too bad, but man oh man, the service was awful. It took them 15 minutes to bring out 2 drinks even though the restaurant was empty, over an hour to start bringing out the main courses, and one of the dishes took an hour and a half! By this time, there was only one other group of customers in. The bathroom gives you an authentic Indian feeling - which isn't necessarily a good thing. And the air conditioning was completely busted so we were melting. To top it all off, the dishes are ridiculously overpriced! $13.99 for a masala dosa?! Please. My advice: skip this joint and pick something else - save the time you'll waste waiting for service, the money you'll spend on mediocre Indian cuisine, and the enjoyment for a place with better ambience.

  • Drashti P.

The food is delicious and tastes homemade. However, there were only 2 waiters working tonight (it might have been because of the long weekend) so the service was lagging behind and slow. The food definitely made up for our hour and half time there

I got delivery. I ordered a "cucumber salad"(which was just sliced cucumbers plain! No dressing, no onions, no herbs or spices, just slivers of half a cucumber and I paid $5.45 for that!!! I got creamed spinach with cubed cheese and it was so watered down and unflavored just so uninspired it was gross. I ordered naan bread( my fav thing) it tasted recycled and not fresh at all, had to throw that out. I paid a total of $30 for this crap and it was disgusting. I question these other reviews legitimacy since there's no way these people should be in business serving up this crap!!! This is not Indian food and it's barely food at all as it's practically uneatable... Stay away and find better. Guru is a few blocks down and delicious even though you pay more for less, it's totally worth every dime to eat foods that serve your body well and your body feels good having it rather than this pseudo Indian mc Donald's junk empty calories. Not happy about having spent $30 on sliced cucumber and non-bread and watered down unflavored spinach sauce, nasty!!!

Was excited to find the bonus ingredient METAL STAPLE! I can't remember the last time I got food with metal in it, oh wait, never. Would think for $17 an entree you'd get nothing but the best, but apparently asking to hold the serious choke hazard is too much. Eat24 assisted in getting a refund for this entree, but I am very disappointed a mistake like this would happen since we are paying a premium price to begin with.

I took a buddy of mine and our friends for his birthday dinner here. The place was very well put together when I walked in, our table of 6 was already set and ready to go. We decided to order family sharing style by ordering a bunch of dishes. We had a wide variety of foods. I am vegetarian so coming here was a real treat. Sadly I don't remember any of the dish names but the cauliflower that had the sauce on it tasted great. If only it wasn't fried. Why does fried food taste so darn good? Also a super treat was the South Indian crepes they served. I has the one stuffed with lentils. Light, delicious and yet filling! The wait staff was super nice. We met Denis the owner also, and he was a real gentleman and very kind. Great Indian beers to choose from, plus the regular choices and also wine. If you want Indian in South Beach this is the place to go. I will be back very soon.

Pretty scary place. I would definitely not go back there. Plates are dirty and the service is awful. The lunch buffet has no selection and you cannot even order off the menu. The waiter has a toupee and kept adjusting it while he brought our bread.

Was there on a friday night around 10. Very very slow service. I ordered Aloo mattar, roti and lassi. Lassi was too thick, aloo mattar was alright. Its very near to the beach, so if you are in a mood for some Indian food and have lot of time, sure this place is good.

Very good, hard working and pleasant staff. Very good food. Very good service. I am keeping it at four as it is bit pricey, but if you are looking for good indian food at sobe it is the place. Avoid GuRu which is near by. I am not sure how lunch is at thali but dinner was good. I would recommend dal makhani. It was best.

Food was ok, being from India can say one of the worst alloo Pratha I have ever tasted, it was uncooked, wait staff had an attitude, dull and dark looking place, very high priced for for a place like that. In total a lousy place will never go there again or recommend . Any one saying nice indian food does not know what indian food is. Trust me as an indian and with hotel and restaurant professional, this place is an insult to indian food and restaurant

DO NOT EVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU VALUE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! My friend and I were visiting South beach, Miami and wanted to try some Indian food near the area. We looked online and found Guru and Thali which had decent reviews. We decided to go to Thali because it was relatively less expensive. When we entered, there was nobody to greet or sit us. We waited for some time and finally the waitress came and sat us in the corner of a practically empty restaurant. The food was ok but the service was absolutely horrible. While we were deciding what to order, the waitress sat with a guy (who later turned out to be the owner) chatting and eating. We politely requested her to wash her hands before serving us the food, but she did not. She handed us the menu, placed the cutlery and served us food without washing her hands. The napkins that were provided to us were stained and dirty. After finishing dinner, we called the manager and complained about her. He tried to pacify us by saying "It's ok, it's ok." We refused to pay gratuity which was automatically added to our bill. While we were still seated, the waitress came and started wiping the table clean, throwing the rice and other left overs on my friend's lap. When we started to protest, the owner stepped in and started to yell at us while defending the waitress. I patiently tried to make him understand what we didn't like about the service; he very rudely asked us to "get out" of his restaurant and never come back. We paid the bill and left. I now don't wonder why the restaurant was practically empty at 8.00-8.30 pm on a very busy street in Miami on a holiday weekend.

For a lunch buffet it is not very good. The selection is pretty poor and the service is non existent. There is no choice for a la carte when they have the buffet ( even though the selection is limited).

Service was good. Food came out very quick. Very bland chicken vindaloo and Tikka masala. Naan was not great. I've had Indian at maybe 10 different places and this was by far my least favorite. Worst part.. I saw something scurrying underneath the table. Now I know this is miami and there are palmetto bugs everywhere but this was a huge roach. Ugh. Quickly left.

I am Indian and I can say from our experience that the food here is pathetic, tasteless, cold. Be prepared to deal with wrong dishes being served to you from what you ordered, extremely poor service, rude servers and long waiting time. Dal tadka had no tadka. Spicy chicken curry was not spicy at all. Spicy rogan josh was bland and was a tad on a sweet side. Any Indian can cook better dishes at home than the food being served here. On top of everything, be aware that they add gratuity in your bill! If you want to eat Indian food, please find another place even if it is a bit far from Miami beach; driving further will be worth it....

Horrible food... The dals and vegetable korma was cooked in a way that I had to run to the bathroom right about after my food! Also... It shocked me to see me pay 16.99(buffet) for such a food which was bad.. Smelled horrible and got me sick! This was equivalent to daylight robbery.. Please try any other restaurants in the area but not this place!

Hit or miss menu, still one of the better options for Indian on the beach. THE FOOD: Aloo Naan - Leavened oven-baked white flat bread with potato The naan was very good, although the potato wasn't noticable. I will order again. Vegetables Samosa - Savory turnovers stuffed with seasoned potatoes and peas The samosas were very disappointing, the filling was too-large chunks of potato and some bland and over-processed mash. I will not order again. Shrimp Curry - Shrimp simmered in mustard, tamarind and coconut sauce. Served with basmati rice The shrimp were delicious and plentiful, the heat of the sauce as good but the flavours were not distinct giving the impression of sauce-in-a-jar. I will not order again. Chicken Madras - Chicken breast cooked with tomato, onion, ginger and hot sauce. Served with basmati rice The chicken was plentiful and good quality chicken breast only, the heat and the flavours of the sauce were lovely. I will order again. OTHER: Water - they brought a large bottle to our table so we could fill our glasses as desired, I love this Website - the menu setup is pretty bad but at least it's there and it's up to date Service - friendly and quick with the bill Tapas - Yelp readers might be looking forward to the Thali platters with tasting portions, but sadly they no longer offer these Value - Reasonable for South Beach with almost every main dish at 16.99 Venue - Clean and well laid out, décor is fairly generic. Good for friends and family, not for a date.

We love this Indian restaurant. It's about the only one on Miami Beach and it's in a great location. You can walk to it from just about anywhere on South Beach. We can go there with the baby or have them deliver. Thali is family owned and authentic Indian food.

Food was terrible . ordered some paneer curry , naan and a dosa . Dosa was cold . Naan was dry and the curry was bland . the place looks really run down and dirty . the bathrooms are really in pathetic state . the only thing going for this place is the location . Its in South Beach . This place is best avoided unfortunately there isn't any other Indian restaurant near it to provide any decent competition.

Have enjoyed several meals always ordered from the menu. Everything is always superbly prepared, with intense rich taste. Their veggie dishes and meat dishes are delicious and you can enjoy an Indian beer to enhance all the flavors and wide variety of food offered at this high quality untypical South Beach restaurant.

  • Chirag D.

My wife and I went for lunch today here as we wanted to eat some Indian food. There was buffet for lunch and let me be frank it was the most pathetic Indian food I have ever eaten. We are vegetarians and there were only two options for the curries - mix vegetables and mix dal. The mix vegetable was only gravy there were no vegetables in it. The amount they charge is high compared to the options they have. Mix dal was ok. The customer service is also bad. No one greeted us when we entered. Assuming no one will show us our table we just took our seat. The host is rude and not at all customer friendly. I could suggest try out some other options rather than visiting this run down, terrible food, rude owner place.

Bad Service. Bad food. Rude waitress. Daal Shorba is nothing but boiled daal with few rice pieces. The roti was served 20mins before the curry. And they billed 15% gratuity for two people. Nice restaurant at nice location but a lot needs to be improved. Being Indian, you would not appreciate the food & service at this place.

So the reason I gave two stars is the price, it's relatively cheap considering the area. That said, expect less than mediocre food, environment, and service.

This was my second time at thali and I loved my meal. We ordered the veggie samosas which were tasty and crispy outside. The paneer tikka masala is my favorite thing. It's good with basmati rice or garlic naan. The tandoori chicken with yogurt sauce was good as well.

    (5)
  • Mo M.

Food is decent but the service is absolutely horrible and the gratuity is included. Seriously? As a server y find it offensive because no matter what people say, not anybody can do the job properly, or in this case at all. Never again.

4 stars because of their good food! Service wasn't too great.. there was only one server so it was understandable. The "Nhon" (bread) is really good :) I loved the fish curry and the chicken kebab. YUMMM

  • Christopher E.

Don't waste your money... Entered and asked if they had tandoori chicken on the buffet. Was told yes. Got in line and loaded my plate. Was delighted to not see the requested dish on the buffet as I have been in other places that bring it fresh to table. When I asked she was confused. She went and asked the manager what it was. Really?? And you are the waitress in an Indian restaurant? Oh my. On top of this the food was simply lousy. Watered down raita, watered down curry, dense naan. Never again. Oh, and she added her own tip on a buffet. Ballsy...

A place called Thali that actually doesn't even serve thali!? and some of the descriptions on their menu are not accurate (i am indian and know my food). that being said, the dosa we tried wasn't too bad. the naan and alu were decent too - enough to get us by not special enough to get us back.

  • Eve C.

I've never understood why good and reasonably-priced Indian restaurants are so few and far-between in South Florida. I love Indian food, but I don't always feel like paying upwards of $18 for an entree the size of a bowl of soup. Thankfully, Thali came to town. I've been here twice so far, both for the Indian fare (I actually don't know anyone who's had the Thai offerings at Thali yet), and I know I'll be back regularly. The veggie dishes and small-size entrees are $8, with the large-size entree topping out at $12. My favorite dish so far is the daal tarka (red and yellow lentils in a slightly spicy yet buttery sauce), with the fish and shrimp curries rounding out my Top 3. The samosas are quite good as well. The prices can't be beat - order a starter of samosas (or 2), 2 veggies, an entree, some rice and naan, and you'll have a satisfying meal for 3 people for about $25 a person. At the moment, it's BYOB (not sure on the corkage fee), despite the presence of the bar and beer taps (leftover from the space's predecessor, Frankie's Hideaway).

Went to Miami for a bachelorette. Before hitting up the bars, our big group of hot, decked out hoochies wanted to get something to eat. Every where else was serving burgers, pizza, bar food, etc and when you're wearing a skin tight dress, you don't want to rip that shit in half with your fat gut. Finally after walking around we found Thali. 1 slow waiter + 1 bitchy manager + 1 bar that didn't even serve alcohol = 8 hungry pissed off bitches. Food was snail slow to come out. Some things were actually pretty good but others were terrible and I just can't get over the piss poor service. I mean, NO ONE was even there! On to the food. Pad thai: To sweet. I make it better. Green curry: No flavor. Chicken biryani: This one was good. Nice flavor, moist chicken & rice. Chicken tikka masala: Sauce wasn't that flavorful. Needed more spices. Chicken was dry. Mushroom cheese dosa: This came and the very end of the meal when everyone was almost done eating! Unfortunately, it was the bachelorette who ordered this. Poor thing was starving. It was HUGE and good but not worth the crazy long wait. Chicken korma: The girl who ordered it said it was made ALL wrong and she usually loves this dish. She resorted to eating plain white rice. Side note: Slow as fuck. Don't come here when you're starving.
