The Marisco al ajillo here is delicious!!!! It was so flavorful and full of seafood. The portion was more than enough. I could only finish half of my dish. I definitely recommend this place. My bf and I had the Patacones with shrimp due to the waitresses recommendation and it was amazon as well.
(5)Abhi V.
Late lunch at this magnificent place. The food was superb and the service was great to match! We had the Eche Ceviche which was made with Passion Fruit juice and it was exquisite! We also had the a Shrimp Patacones - it was on fried plantains and it was incredibly tasty too! A great choice for South American cuisine in South Beach!
(5)Miriam V.
I love this place! I went there for my last night in Miami and I'm glad I did. A live band plays as you eat! The food is amazing. The staff are attentive, and the ambiance is really chill. If you are in the south beach area, a great place to dine out in.
(5)Frank L.
Parceviche was fresh, subtle lime and mango and the fish was so delicious without any fishy taste or aroma. Need to come back to try other items.
(4)Yury S.
Wow this was great! You have to try the grilled corn. Everything that our group ordered was just amazing! It's a combination of South American cuisine that anyone visiting south beach has to try!!
(5)sarah m.
I'm definitely a fan. We had the tapas plate and loved all of it; especially the alcachofas and maduros. I think the only thing we will watch out for next time is that we unknowingly ordered a lot of the fried options off of the tapas list, so I guess I would say that beyond the meat, seafood, and fried options, there is not too much on the tapas list that is lighter fare. I had their fresh, house made passion fruit juice and it was spectacular. I would love to sample their larger plates next time. Our server and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
(4)Brody S.
I have been here many times for dinner and it's always excellent. Very good service, the chicken and steak are always fully cooked and flavorful, and the atmosphere is really fun.
(5)Stan K.
OK I am a tourist in Miami Beach. Is Monday a off night ? Just had a fabulous meal and can not believe this place is not standing room only, get here for interesting incredibly fun food. A must do restaurant.....
(5)Kevin D.
Very good place with great service, very good food and atmosphere. I would definitely go again when back in Miami. Keep in mind that it has moved down the street from it's original location which I don't think is up to date on Yelp
(4)Lionel M.
This place is a must visit. Many many times better then the quality of everyday restaurants on Ocean Drive as well as much better pricing. If you're interested in trying the Columbian platter do it. Everything was cooked to perfection and had a very good traditional flavor to it. Great ambiance and great drinks as well.
(4)Joel B.
Food was great! Was looking for a restaurant that had some food from Central and South America and came across this place! We were not disappointed! Started off with the Mora (Andean Blackberry juice) which was really good. It was so good on our way to another restaurant the following night we got an order of it to go. We started off with two tapas before our dinner came. We had the empanadas and arepitas blancas. Both were excellent and we loved all of the dipping sauces that was served with them especially the aji (sp?). For dinner I had the bandeja paisa (Colombian dish) which I thought was really good. I enjoyed all of it including the crispy pork belly which reminded me somewhat of a Filipino dish that I like. My friend had the Churrasco (Argentia) which he said was really good as well. It was definitely a great place and we were able to try a variety of food. Like most places in South Beach they do automatically add 18% gratuity because from what we were told at one place some of the foreign tourists don't understand the concept of tipping so, it gets added as a convenience. Next time we are in Miami we will be having dinner or lunch here.
(4)Micky D.
Ordered the Bolivar martini which was so-so. The problem was the wait for the food, which took forever and then some. The waitress was really sweet she provided a free appetizer, which still left a lot to be desired. In short, I would give it a good rating for ambience and outdoor seating. Not great service.
(3)Susie F.
Come during the weekday and enjoy their lunch special. I believe it's from 12pm - 4pm. Their food is delicious and the prices are good. $9.99 for a lunch special during the weekday.
(4)Katie L.
Great ambience, great appetizers and drinks. Had the "eche" and patacones for appetizers = fantastic! Loving everything so far and service is great. Ordered the "bandeja paisa" for the entree and I was surprisingly disappointed. The pork belly was not good and the skirt steak was a C at the most. The best part of the entree were the beans and caramelized plantains. Would love to recommend others to come here, but don't order "bandeja paisa".
(4)Cindy D.
It's so-so food, nothing great, but not really bad. Being a visitor, Id probably not return. Good service though, nice waiters and waitresses.
(3)Jesse S.
Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Looking for a place to eat and found it on yelp. Tried it out and it was awesome!! So glad we went.
(5)Carlos N.
This place is by far the best food I've had in south beach. The people are very friendly and the food is delicious. The mixture of many different cultures allows this place to have its own unique touch to it. I would highly recommend it over the restaurants over by the shore.
(5)D S.
I've had many meals on South Beach, this is the first Yelp review I write about ANY. Service: amazing. quick , efficient, attentive and consistent, just spot on. Food was tasty, portioned and priced adequately ($16 average sized lomo salteado) . I was ashamed I needed Yelp to find this gem, it truly is my new favorite place in SoBe.
(5)Jennifer H.
Outstanding service. We did not have reservations on a Sat night and the hostess was very apologetic that we would have to wait 10-15 minutes (which was totally acceptable to us). We didn't wait long at all. The server gave some recommendations when we asked and then we ordered a ceviche (fantastic) and we each ordered an entree. Everything was fantastic and had a lot of flavor. This has been our best meal in Miami so far!! Highly recommend!!!!
(5)Julia E.
Tasty ceviche!
(4)Jennifer M.
Cute concept, slow service. I liked the creativity but was only really impressed with a few of the dishes. Not sure I would return.
(3)Jin Sheen Y.
Excellent food, paired with friendly service, great location, perfect ambience marks this a Must Go location for good food, good drinks, and good time! We were welcomed by the friendly host who re-arranged tables to seat the 7 of us outdoors, which made the whole experience much better with the perfect weather outside! The drink menu is stored in a wine bottle, very unique. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria - great for thirst quenching! :) Then we were served with complimentary grilled corn cakes, topped with some excellent salsa - it was gone in 2 bites. Food: A few folks got the combination Tapas de Bolivar - let's say all were sighing and mmm-ing with pleasure upon tasting the: Skirt steak tips, Grilled Chicken strips, Grilled Shrimp, Corn cakes, Sweet plantains, Yellow potatoes, Corn on cob.. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa and it totally hit the spot with the egg, rice and the meats. Yummee. The rice was absolutely tasty!! Bolivar, I'm coming back!
(5)Will M.
Overall, service was good, nice waitresess, good ambiance. But most of the food was overcooked, tough, not easy to eat / chew. More or less bland. We ordered sangria, maybe someone switched bottles, or poured the wrong one, because it most distinctly had either Sambuca, Absinthe, and or other Anisette flavor, which was a horrible clash with the sangria. I wish I wasn't charged for the sangria, because I sent my glass away, and ordered a beer instead. I would give this place another chance, but I'm not sure what to expect.
(3)Kit C.
EVERY SINGLE THING on the menu is amazing! The greeters were extremely inviting. The servers worked like a team and they were all super friendly. I'll be here for 3 more days and I'm sure I'll eat here for at least another 4 or 5 meals!
(5)Brenda C.
Over the past couple of years, Bolivar has become my go-to restaurant when I visit South Beach. The food is excellent. In quality and value it surpasses all the restaurants on Ocean Dr. that try to reel you in. I haven't had anything I don' like. My favorites are the Lomo Saltado, Tamal, Fish cevice, the sangria and Natas for dessert. If the food is not enough to bring you back, then Alfonso will be. He's probably the friendliest and most attentive server I've encountered anywhere. I visit Miami with friends at least once a year and he always remembers us and chats with us. A must try!
(5)He Q.
Brooo you have to actually eat here yoo. We cleared the motha******* plates! So good. We got the ceviche tapas platter camarones al ajillo and sangria. The steak was good too. Be a man and eat at Bolivar.
(5)Pamela P.
This is a cool little (literally small) place on Washington that offers Colombian & Venezuelan cuisine ... friendly staff, nice bar. It seems family run. I happened to walk in yesterday and there was some kind of soccer championship on TV. I had the shrimp patacon which is basically shrimp creole on to stones... it did not disappoint my taste for spice and they serve 4-5 signature sauces with anything you order ranging in heat intensity. I loved it. I haven't been but I was told they also have live music certain evenings. I've tried the sangria and the house chardonnay, I was pleased. Mind you, don't go to a sports bar and order champagne. I would like to come back and try other selections from their menu that seemed intriguing.
(4)Vania E.
First yelp review which is embarrassing because I use yelp all the time to find a new place to try. Visited Bolivar Saturday late afternoon looking for a light bite to eat before a late dinner. I WISH I would've found this place sooner!!It beats any restaurant on the main strip (which I now know are all rip offs) Our server was outstanding & although we chose the 2 for $7 option (Chicharon & Empanadas) & a sweet plantain side ($4) my boyfriend & I were treated as if we had a very expensive bill. The food was fresh & not greasy. We were served different sauces from spicy to very mild to try & got an amuse bouche from the chef to start. I would definitely rate this place 5 stars on service alone the plus is that the food matched the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to coming back to this place when I visit Miami again!
(5)Edward R.
Food was delicious. Portions were plentiful. Friendly staff. Just took forever to bring the check.
(4)bm p.
We used the Yelp $20 for $40 deal and they accepted it without a problem and the waitstaff was very nice. The food was just ok, nothing special at all. And, it seemed overpriced, so without the Yelp deal, it would have been a rip off. Very meh.
(2)Derek F.
wow this place was really great and we went here with the miami culinary tours which was an awesome idea as well. we got hooked up by the social director Derek through southbeachgroup.com under concierge services. the empenadas were great and the chicken on top of the plantain was amazing
(5)Honest A.
Bolivar is a little gem! Great food, abundant portions, and incredible service. Our waitress Lina was so helpful that she steered us away from a dish she didn't think was the best and even told us we were ordering too much food. When's the last time a waitress did that? The atmosphere is really cool too.
(5)Jessica K.
Glad I tried this place! Interior was nice and not crowded at all. We had the sampler of six different ceviches to start which was great to try each. I had the fish with mango salsa was amazing as well- very well cooked and tons of flavor. Wish we had room room for dessert as they looked great too. Would definitey go back.
(4)Mercie C.
Great food. Great service. We shared the Bandeja Paisa. Super yummy. Sat outside, lovely time.
(5)Magda S.
Excellent food, probably the best we tried in Miami. We only ordered appetizers (mazorca, patacones, arepa) and all of them were to die for. Staff was very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. I tried their signature drink Aqua de Florero. I didn't like it very much as it was very very strong and not so flavorful but that is probably a matter of preference so if you like very strong cocktails go for it. I liked the fact that they provide description as from where each course originates (Peruvian, Colombian, from Ecuador etc) what makes it look so authentic. Their passion fruit juice and dessert (we tried Natas a kind of milk pudding) were also excellent! Their prices are reasonable. Overall we had an excellent meal!
(5)Pablo P.
Excellent food, service, place, environment, quality and price. Probably the best Colombian food in Miami!
(5)Sean C.
Everything was excellent! Best meal we had in South Beach. Highly recommend the sangria. Atmosphere, service and entertainment were no exception.
(5)Pilar M.
Good good. Deliciously. We recommend this restaurant.
(5)Chevonne W.
Very good! Have gone several times and never leave unsatisfied. The staff is nice, it is reasonably priced and if you want a taste of all kinds of food around South America with flavor, then this is your place. And it's not too expensive. My favorite is the fried artichokes and the Churrasco steak is good. The only thing I didn't like was the fish.. Can't remember the name of the it but it was a whole fish with the head and all.. freaked me out.. lol
(5)Margie C.
The sangria, patacones with shrimp, and mixed fish+shrimp ceviche were the highlights of the night. No, I lie. The dude belting out Spanish covers all night was the highlight. A tad awkward but highly entertaining!
(4)Miguel M.
Great food, Great drinks, Great service!! Arepas on the house! A must go place to eat if you're in South Beach.
(5)Miranda T.
Came here for dinner during our night in Miami. When I came in around 6/6:30, the place was pretty empty. Whelps, that was a bit worrisome. However, it quickly became filled around 7:30. We sat down and the waitress explained the menu to us. Basically, Bolivar serves a variety of South American dishes with each item labeled by the country of origin. I thought it was a cool concept! We ordered the bandeja paisa, mariscos al ajillo, and torta negra with ice cream. Bandeja paisa - A very simple dish but delicious nonetheless. It comes with rice, caramelized plantains, fried pork belly, steak meat, beans, fried egg, half an avocado, and corn cake. Wow, listing that out makes me realize how much food was on that plate. Mariscos al ajillo - So flavorful, and they definitely did not skimp on the seafood! Pretty much a seafood creole with a side of rice. Torta negra - A wine cake served with ice cream. The dessert was okay. I found the cake to be too dry for my taste. While waiting for the food, our waitress brought arepas on the house to sample. Tasty! At the conclusion of our meal, we were stuffed but completely satisfied with our experience at Bolivar. Our waitress, Andrea, was very friendly and helpful in deciding on what to order. Oh, but be careful when your bill comes! They automatically charge you 18% gratuity.
(4)Sherry W.
The green sauce is really spicy. Great ambiance. Great flavor. I had a fried plantain topped with shredded chicken. I also had an empanada. It is a Colombian one made with yellow cornmeal for the shell. It had potato inside of it. I also had the drink which was Colombian beer and colombiano soda mixed together. It was a refreshing beverage. Pleace has great ambiance. A colombian was with me and she didn't like the food. I being american thought it was great.
(4)Lisa A.
This place took us back to SA, from the atmosphere to the friendly bar staff. My husband I ate at the bar we were just going to stop in for drink. After we saw the food and creative menu, we decided to order a couple of small plates. The bartenders gave us a lot of ideas, so we went with the sample appetizer platter. This included up to 7 small plates from mussels, skirt steak, chicken wings, to their own sauces. Empanadas, empanadas! The grilled parmesan corn! Wish I had ordered that too!
(5)Chase H.
Great service very helpful and informative of the dishes we got an appetizer I'd recommend to everyone called the plantacones with beef on them very good! Our meals were also very good and the Florida amber ale was a very tasty beer. Highly recommend
(5)Judy U.
This place is amazing! Great food, service and atmosphere! A place to visit not only once or twice but every time you get a chance!
(5)Jericca B.
After reading the great reviews my boyfriend and I decided to check this place out. Unfortunately we we're not very impressed. The only reason I do not give this place two stars is because the ambience was nice and I enjoyed the sangria (and I guess the corn). We ordered the 7 choice tapas. The food didn't take too long to come out, but it was luke warm at best. The garlic shrimp were the smallest pieces of shrimp imaginable, and lacked flavor. The green fried plantains we're also a disappointment. Out of the 7 options on the plate, only the steak and corn we're enjoyable. I was really looking forward to checking this place out, but after an experience like that I don't think I'll be back.
(3)Fiona R.
This place was amazing! The food was good, the atmosphere was great, and the staff was friendly. We went here with a Groupon and decided to do the 7 small tapas for $29. We also did their sangria and refajo (really, really good!). Sharing tapas with 7 people was not very filling, so we all ended up getting meals. I got the Mariscos al Ajelo, which was a seafood dish. Not only was it amazing but they also did not skimp on the seafood. Everyone else loved their dishes as well. The food was so good that we ended up going a second time two days later before leaving Miami.
(5)Bunny W.
Highly recommended! The best sangria we had in south beach, service was good, ambiance was classy and the menu was interesting. We tried the ceviche sampler and the tapas sampler. We like to try different things. Only the dessert was a let down, the wine cake was dry. They also had extensive wine selection but we recommend the sangria.
(4)Mark L.
Great Food! We ordered the seafood and the steak salad. Both are very good. Especially, the stew seafood (sorry, cannot remember the original name) is delicious. We went there at Friday evening and the beer is half off during the happy hour at that time. For two people, the price tag is $50~60 with two main dish, one appetizer and two drinks. Of course, everything is expensive at South Beach Miami, but I think the food quality matches the price.
(5)Anna S.
Great experience here!!! Great food, great service, great live entertainment! Will definitely go here again when we return to Miami! Yelp deal was great too!!!
(5)Matt E.
Great food, very reasonable prices! Staff was very friendly and the owner has great recommendations! If we were here in Miami for more than a few nights, we would have come here twice!
(5)Paul B.
Just a fantastic meal. The service was wonderful, the atmosphere charming. Great choice of latin american beers, with the Peruvian beer being especially good. My steak was cooked perfectly, and paired with a delicious chimmichourri sauce. My wifes Pollo chicken with garlic mashed potatoes were wonderful as well. Combined with the Yelp deal it was perfect!
(5)Chris S.
Never a wait. Good food, reasonably priced.
(4)James K.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I do not know how this place has 4 stars average? Two out of the four main dishes we ordered were returned and had to be exchanged. The other 2 were mediocre at best. We changed it to a deep fried fish that was also tasteless, but seemed to be the best alternative there. The server was rude and told us that this is how the food should taste. Even though, we showed him that the churrasco steak (was like a shoes sole) can't be cut with a knife and was tasteless (No salt or anything - I cook myself and it is not that difficult to season that steak). We asked him if it can be re cooked or have a better piece of meat to which he said it will be the same as this one. (I thought they specialize in Argentine food?) He also took it back to the chef and chef also said food was fine. The salmon was very a very small portion and bitter. Neither the chef nor the server knew if it was wild salmon or the kind of salmon it was. By the time our 2 dishes came out the my 2 guest were already finished eating and bored. Also be careful if you use Groupon. They charge you tip and tax on $30.00 per person meal, even though some entries were 15.99. I will probably never go back again here and advise you to do same. Birthday celebration was ruined pretty bad.
(1)Christina D.
Food OK, atmosphere good. Service- slow to get check.
(3)Shamil B.
We originally walked by puerto suaga and line was out the door, so we went to las olas but it was closed :(. Craving empanadas we found bolivar and wish we had not. We walked in and it was very empty. We decided to order the 7 tapas selection and a strawberry mojito. 40 minutes later tapas finally came out, and most of them were cold. The skirt steak was over cooked, burnt and dry. Same with the chicken strips. The two servers this place had on a sat night did not come over in the 40 minutes of waiting time to check on us ONCE. I enjoyed my mojito very slowly. We ate quick and left very unsatisfied. Definitely would not recommend or go back. Better off waiting on the long puerto sagua line or finding other latin cuisines.
(1)Mike P.
I went to Bolivar for dinner. The restaurant wasn't crowded and we were promptly seated as soon as we walked in. We started off by ordering shots of aguardiente, which is a must in any Colombian restaurant. The seafood mix ceviche appetizer was excellent. Nice sized portion, fresh seafood, and distinct citrus flavor complemented very well by the red onions. The Bandeja Paisa and Colombian sausage was my entree. As expected, its BIG and filling. The arepa was a bit dry and I didn't love it, but that's not the focus of a Bandeja Paisa. Everything else on the plate was cooked right and flavored very nicely, especially the Colombian sausage. That was my favorite item on the plate. The Chanchito grilled pork loin comes with 2 big juicy pieces of pork covered in a tangy, fruity salsa. It was very tender, juicy and cooked right. After downing nearly the entire Bandeja Paisa, I had no room for dessert. I was happy with the caipirinha that I drank during dinner. It was mixed properly and was made with a fair amount of cachaca. Great work, considering this is not a Brazilian restaurant. We got a lot of food for a good price. The interior is comfortable, clean, warm, and the service was prompt and friendly. I would definitely return during my next trip to Miami.
(4)Roger A.
Good Peruvian in SoBe. We had the Pollo Saltado which was tender and flavorful. They have an excellent selection of South American beers. I really enjoyed Quilmes on a warm afternoon. Service was very good and prompt. Lunch prices are reasonable. Beers were $3 and the Pollo Saltado was $12. The 7th street parking garage is just around the block.
(3)Steve A.
Fantastic!!!! Why? Food was fresh, high quality, authentic, delicious, plentiful, well presented. Atmosphere was warm, comfortable, positive, homey, comforting, colorful, authentic feeling. Service was super friendly, smiley, happy, helpful, caring and attentive. Louisa was adorable and sweet. Prices are extremely fair for the quality and quantity. This food was authentic and delicious. I highly recommend this place.
(5)John L.
We were looking for a place for the last dinner in the south beach area. We couldn't stand the "market price" tourist traps on the ocean dr, so We found this gem on Yelp and all of us were very impressed. Great food and excellent service.
(5)Davis C.
Great experience. Amazing food. It was a lot of fun to try Columbian and south american food. Everything we tried was superb
(5)Juan Pablo G.
This place is great! The food is delicious and the ambiance and presentation are great, but it has some flaws..., first of all the tip included and second of all, the non consistency of their dishes. I've been there many times and ordered the same dish and the quality might differ from one day to another, and I'm not implying that it gets really bad, but for example one day the dish comes with avocado and then the next time it doesn't. It is a shame that they took away the lunch specials and only left 1 per day.
(4)Amber W.
I hate to have to give this place a 3/5, because the food was actually really good, and we all enjoyed it a lot. Highlights included the empanadas (which were actually really amazing), and my dish was pretty good, though not amazing (the Bandeja Paisa...wish I had gotten the skirt steak), I would've like the beans to be a little more seasoned. The other big highlights were the Cuatro Leches (that's right, cuatro!) and the Natas. Both milk based dishes, both really yummy. However, the service was pretty bad and when you are charging people 18% tip automatically, the service should at least be standard. However, we waited roughly 2 hrs for our main dishes to come out. We were at this restaurant from 9:30-12/12:30am. They said that a large party was inside, but I don't feel that excuses such late and long service. We requested a discount or something complementary so they brought out another appetizer, but I felt they could have been more attentive to our table in letting us know when the food was coming out because it was getting really ridiculous. Overall, I recommend this place if you're not around on a weekend. Maybe for lunch or an early dinner, but prime time doesn't seem to be a good time to come in. Perhaps without a large party it'd be better (since the do have so many great reviews) and our experience was an exception, but it was a pretty frustrating one as well.
(3)ritu m.
My fiance and I visited Bolivar this past weekend on our trip to Miami. It was the best food I've had in a long time, and I was so amazed at the wonderful service. There was never a minute when we weren't being tended to and our water was always filled to the brim. The wait staff was extremely kind and friendly. We ordered a few tapas, which were all wonderful, especially the empanadas (best I've ever had), columbian sausage, and grilled shrimp. I would highly recommend all three of these!! The sangria was also really tasty and had the right mix of fruit and wine. Anyone looking for a great meal in a fun and hip ambience should definitely try this place! Please note, they recently moved a few blocks down from their original location at 661 Washington so make sure to call them to get their correct address.
(5)Josh F.
Brunch was ridiculously cheap and authentic Colombian grub. Make sure to get the mimosas and combination dish when you go! Super friendly and great ambiance as well.
(5)Gary P.
Can't wait to go back on next trip to South beach - had to fight urge to go back the second night, but since we were only in town two nights, just had to try somewhere else. Loud, lively, great food, good prices, great service. Lots of Latin flavor - both in terms of food and ambiance. I'd be here all the time if I lived nearby. My new favorite place in Miami Beach.
(5)Lady Di D.
Amidst the ordinary, tacky, and tasteless food options around south beach there is a latin cuisine oasis called Bolivar. Patacones con ropa vieja, fish ceviche, and sauces from several countries that perfectly complement the meal, and 3 dollar sangria... What else can a girl ask 4..... .
(4)Kate H.
What an excellent little place. Good job, yelp! We ate outside. The food was remarkable and reasonable for South Beach. The waitstaff adorable. Must do again.
(4)Emily S.
My boyfriend and I were spending a night in South Beach and wanted to eat at a place that was a little more quiet than our options on Ocean Drive, where we were staying. The service was not so great- It took about 15 minutes for someone to take our drink orders and there was some confusion between us and the waitress when we asked a few questions. For example, I ordered a glass of sangria, she said it only came in pitchers. After the fact she handed us a drink menu which clearly listed the price for a glass, so that was confusing. The food took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait- so delicious. I had the Bandeja Paisa and my boyfriend had the Chanchito. We were definitely eating off each others plates. However, when the check came there was an automatic 18% gratuity added. I'm not sure if this was stated in the menu or not- it definitely wasn't something I noticed when we were trying to decide what to eat. This is mainly the basis for my 3-star review- the automatic gratuity added for not so stellar service. We were only checked on once during the meal, our water glasses were only re-filled when we flagged someone down, and after sitting for a while with no drinks and our plates removed we had to ask for our check. Maybe this was just an off night for them? In our opinion Bolivar is definitely worth a visit for the food, but you'll need some patience for the service.
(3)Sarah M.
Very good food and service! Definitely recommend buying a bottle over the glass of wine. And torta negra for desert is a must
(4)Rachel W.
Service and food was excellent. The ceviche was so fresh and flavorful. Prices were reasonable and they had a variety of dishes to please everyone's palette. I can't wait to go back.
(5)Kait B.
This place is great! We researched places to go to before we came and Bolivar caught our eye. My boyfriend got the Picanha steak and I got the Bandeja Paisa. Both had good flavor but could have been cooked so that they were a little more tender. The rice and red beans were delicious, the shrimp ceviche was awesome (and I don't usually like ceviche), as were the empanadas. However, all of the wines that you could get by the glass were awful. We tried the cabernet, Pinot noir, and the malbec and all had a weird chemical taste to them. Their sangria was extremely delicious though. Another thing that brought down their rating was the lack of passion fruit creme brulee-the one menu item that made me want to go there the most. We had the tres Leche cake instead, which was ok but nowhere near what we had wanted. All in all it was a good place, but needs to step it up in a few places.
(4)Sunshine H.
Great good. Excellent drinks. Nice ambiance. The sauces they give you with the apps are amazing. They also have live music.
(4)Nana L.
Great food and great service. Very relaxing ambiance. Second time here. Will come every time I'm in Southbeach
(5)Tori B.
Food is amazing! !! Live entertainment! I had the pulled beef....wish I could eat it daily My husband had the platter with full avocado (no up charge)
(5)Daniel A.
we had a great time at Bolivar. we went on sunday night to just grab some food. the food was great and also the live music.

Bolivar has a good atmosphere and stylish Colombian decor. Came over on July 4th and they had live music. However the food disappointed. The Appetizer was good, patacones with shrimp, for entree I order a Colombian signature dish "bandeja paisa" which had serious shortcomings you have to pay extra to get morcilla (blood sausage) which was pretty dry and salty. The meat was also salty and rubbery. The chicharron wasn't great either and the rice un flavorful. Can't speak for other dishes but if it was for the Colombian food alone, I wouldn't be back
(3)Dennis M.
Very nice menu with tapas as well as entrees from all over South America. I like how it's labeled so you know where each dish originated. The crema de camarones and the Colombian sausage platter make for a good combination.
(5)Susan A.
We came for Sunday brunch or lunch, they let us choose breakfast or usual entrees. All we had was excellent! The quartet of house-made sauces was a great accompaniment. Started with empanadas, one of each, complimented by those sauces. I had the first breakfast option with steak served on red beans & rice. Hubby had a variety plate (first entree on the list) that was also great. Wished we could have hung out here all afternoon and tried it all!
(5)TasteBuds R.
Excellent food!!! Great service and incredibly friendly staff. I would recommend the beef patacones as an appetizer!! So so DELICISIOSO! Large portions too :) Happy Eating.
(5)Tiffany L.
Based on the reviews I thought this place would be great. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I ordered the grilled corn appetizer- flavored well, but the corn itself wasn't juicy sweet corn that you would expect at this time of year. I orders the Mahi dish as an entrée- the Mahi was dry and tough. Definitely not fresh. I would expect fresh, not frozen fish when dining at a restaurant that also Serves ceviche in Miami Beach. Finally, the service was awful. I was sitting at the bar alone and I had to ask to place an order for a drink after sitting for a very long time. I would not recommend this place.
(2)April L.
Recently went here on Saturday night. Very nice waitress, when I wanted advice on what to order she was very helpful. I got the 3 tapas : Sweet plantain: delicious, very sweet. Fried artichoke Parmesan: very good Empanadas: good, but I felt they could of been better Calamari: Nothing special, I felt it was over cooked and tough. The sangria was okay. Overall, everything was okay/good.
(3)Sergey T.
This is a fantastic mixed-cuisine restaurant! The food was delicious (especially crab cake), the music was very relaxing. Enjoyed immensely!!
(5)Daisy P.
Love the decor of this SoBe restaurant. It is relatively dark but the pop of color from the bar, wine bottles, spot lights on the arts, made it feel like you want to be sitting there at that moment enjoying delicious food. Our group of 4 ordered the ceviche, churrasco, picanha, and chicken dishes. We also had a "colombian bruschetta" which sat on a tortilla/arepa cheese bread with light tomato sauce. We also had the Hurtado house Pinot Grigio and it was delicious.. My shrimp ceviche was relish and i loved the Mango/Lemon salsa. It sat on a bed of lettuce so it made the dish super fresh and light. Overall, I will be back and on the weekends for live music!
(5)Uche M.
I had the whole grilled fish. I found them plantains a bit oily. The mojitos were quite good with the sugar cane stick. Overall, an enjoyable meal was had.
(4)Yaneth B.
Don't waste your money. I was so excited to go there but unfortunately since the moment we sat the experience was awful. We sat at 7:50. Happy hour ended at 8 PM but our server, Paulina, didn't go to the table until 8 PM. When we asked her if we could order happy hour drink she was rude at best n told us very clearly that it was too late although she had taken 10 minutes to come to our table!!! The food came 30-40 minutes later. I had the mussels which were VERY salty n not fresh at all. They also didn't even come with bread to eat with. My husband had the lomo salatado. It was also salty and it had little meat on it. It was mainly potatoes. Overall, the restaurant ambiance is nice but the service couldn't have been worst and the food was salty n not fresh. There are way better places than this in Miami Beach.
(1)Philip Y.
Amazing food, service was ok but good enough. The restaurant had a great Latin vibe and the live music kept the energy alive. Drinks were better than average but the food was amazing. The creme brûlée was very good and the tapas were well cooked and flavorful. Great value as well, if I lived in sb this would be my go to place
(5)Igor B.
Awesome all around!!!! Food Drinks Service! Meet plater was great. Best pork around! Sangria was excellent! Highly recommend
(5)Antonio M.
Amazing service with super friendly waitress (Jannett I believe was her name) the civiche shots were the only things we weren't fond of but it was awesome that she offered to pack and store them for us until we were done with the beach. The arepas were great. The drinks were good.
(5)Jose C.
Very professional and courteous staff. Food was amazing. If your in Miami this place is a most. Very short walk off the strip but well worth it....
(5)Julio P.
Food was great! Staff was very friendly. Had the the bees empanadas, the pollo saltado was amazing and their cuatro leches dessert was just crazy good. The drink we had was called refrajo and it was very refreshing (beer mixed with soda). The place has nice Spanish music playing that's just right in volume. So it doesn't get in the way of conversation. Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
(5)Cristina P.
Just ok. Pork was over cooked. Mahi mahi was bland. Skirt steak was done well. Best new taste for us was the Inca Kola :) passing on dessert.
(3)Dan D.
Sat outside and had a really great ceviche and platter of different meats. The staff was really great and the price was right.
(5)Jordan E.
We loved the corn cakes topped with beef, cheese sticks, and chorizo. The sauce tray they bring was amazing too! Service was great! Dessert menu was so so. Live music and great atmosphere on a Friday
(4)Joe A.
Cool spot that may not jump to the top of the tourist list, even with the overwhelmingly positive Yelp reviews. The ceviche is pretty spot on, so if citrus-spicy fish is your thing, drop in and get some.
(4)Ron G.
My first review on my new account. Loved this place. Top notch service, intimate atmosphere, delicious food and very reasonable prices. Came on a Friday night for a date, shared tapas and a bottle of wine and was not disappointed. Live music too!
(5)L S.
Fabulous Latin breakfast omelette. The vegetables in the omelette were so good. The seasoning on fries was great as well. Inexpensive and delicious. Great service! Also, key: indoors was a great temp. Not too hot and not too cold!
(5)Isaiah P.
Sooooooo amazing!!!!! Awesome atmosphere, phenomenal food and genuine and personable service! Food was amazing and mojitos were to die for!!!!!
(5)Fabes D.
Ice cold colombiana. Great Colombian empanadas. The picanha is very tasty. I would suggest the tostones as well as they were really fresh and well made. Even the espresso I ordered to complete the meal was great. We went on a Sunday evening, service was really fast and attentive and everyone was super friendly. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Latin cuisine.
(5)Ben C.
Excellent cerviche and terrific service. Affordable place on South Beach. Very nice South American vibe that will make you feel like you are in a different country.
(5)Chrissy M.
Amazing food and nice atmosphere. Ceviche was delicious and Churrasco was scrumptious! To top off the meal was the amazingly tasty passion fruit Creme brûlée! Wonderfully delicious date night!
(5)Tsz W.
A great dining experience overall. Their staff was so courteous and professional. The decor and atmosphere was perfect for a night out with either a friend or significant other. Their drinks and food menus were amazingly flavorful. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any one visiting Miami Beach!
(5)Karen B.
First of all, DO NOT ORDER THE CALIMARI! Seriously. The worst calimari my daughter and I have ever had. And by worst, I mean inedible. When we kindly complained, they traded it out for chicken strips which were very good. We really wanted to try their empanadas but they were out of the meat kind, so we only got to sample the cheese version. They were very good, but, still, it was disappointing that we didn't get to try the other kind. My other daughter loved her pollo de saltado and my son said his skirt steak was good. I had the platter with the skirt steak, plantains, beans, rice w/ egg, and fried pork belly. It sounded better than it was but I dont know what I was thinking since I usually avoid fried food and the pork belly was basically fried fat with a hint of meat. I was not expecting the egg to be well-done, but that's probably how it's supposed to be. In short, I should have ordered one of the civeche specials because it looked amazing on the table next to us. Our server was very nice but he took a long time to check on us after delivering our food. On the upside my Bolivartini with Lolu Juice was delicious! If you give it a chance, be sure to check in on Facebook or Twitter so you can get a free glass of wine.
(3)Jessica F.
I took my sister here for her 30th birthday along with 5 other friends and we really had an amazing time. The staff was so great about taking pictures of our table for us and being so understanding whenever we said, "can you take another one?" The sangria and bottles of wine we ordered were delicious. All of the food was so good. We were all picking off of each others plates to try all of the amazing Peruvian, Colombian, Bolivian, and Argentinian dishes. And as if the great food, wine, and service wasn't enough they celebrated my sisters birthday with us by bringing her a shot and silly hats for everyone at the table to wear while the staff played drums and cheered. It was so fun. And even after we were ready to go our server recommended an amazing place to go dance after dinner. I'm so impressed by this place. If I ever go back to Miami I would have to come here again.
(5)Dana P.
i dont rate 5 stars often but this deserves. im not overly familiar with Peruvian cuisine but the variety of fabulous textures and tastes and colors were overwhelming. small and intimate. make reservations even during week. Luz, our server, was outstanding, helpful explaining the dishes and never rushing us. prices were surprisingly average for their location. i refer my friends there now. excellent for a first date as they have marvelous tapas and drinks, ambiance is warm, inviting, hip, without being arrogant.
(5)David M.
What a great place in South Beach! The tapas were so tasty and the favors had my tastebuds dancing with the Latin music in the background and to top it off the Don Genero Malbec completed this amazing meal...thank you Bolivar! The Waitstaff was friendly and very attentive and completed this wonderful dining experience. I'm from New Mexico and the next time I'm in South Beach I'll definitely return! I highly recommend Bolivar to anyone who wants to have a FUN and delicious eating experience...it's well worth the stop!
(5)Kennie B.
Went for dinner. Great food, mixed drinks and environment. It's on the pricey side. You will spend quite a bit if you have drinks and dinner.
(5)Marie D.
Not sure if I'm giving it a five because the food was way above expectations or just good, but either way, worth visiting. I've never had Peruvian/Colombian food, but it's definitely delicious. We would def come back. Get the passion fruit creme brûlée! Soo good.
(5)Leslie C.
I went on a Groupon yesterday and normally I am not impressed as you feel like your not treated like a regular customer. Well that was not the case with Bolivar. Cesear our waiter was amazing! He gave great suggestions and amazing service. The atmosphere was romantic but fun. Good scene. The food was tasteful but you have to like that kind of South American Cuisine. Its very rich but I like that flavor. If you are not there on a Groupon their portions are large and we were pretty full after appetizers so don;t over order. after 7:30 on a Sunday it became packed. I like that as I don;t like eating in empty places. Make a reservation for sure.
(5)Moxy M.
Moved to miami two weeks ago. I've been eating out every day and so far Bolivar has had the best service I've experienced. Lots of choices for pescatarians like myself and fair prices. The staff genuinely welcomes you and takes care of you unlike many of the restaurants in the area that aggressively try to get you in and then don't provide good service. I recommended the restaurant to new friends last night (all locals) and they all left happy. One even said he may have found his favorite new restaurant! Go for the tapas sampler. It's portioned for the table and a great choice to munch on while enjoying a conversation.
(5)Dora S.
This is such a great place! From the atmosphere to service and food. The servers are young and friendly. Always helpful and ready to be at your service. The manager is also present and welcoming. He offered us a complimentary appetizer. He said because of the wait but I didn't even realize how much we've been waiting because we were feeling so good. The food so amazing. As authentic as I can tell (I'm not latino so I can't judge too much) but it looked healthy and tasted great. The presentation is very modern. Definitely a fusion type a restaurant! We will definitely come back
(5)Wing P.
My husband and I came here based on the yelp reviews. The fried green plantains with shredded beef appetizer was amazing! Got the seafood ceviche..it was just ok. Get the green plantain appetizer! Main course - we got the traditional Colombian platter and the fried whole fish. They were both phenomenal! Dessert - we got the passion fruit crew brûlée. It was good but a bit too sweet for me. Our waitress was very attentive too! We would totally come back next time we are in town.
(5)Vincent N.
Don't panic tourist--come here and have your server figure what plate you want based on what you are looking for (fish, rice, special meats, etc.). My wife had the carne asada plate (not called that here) and it was spectacular. I had the salmon and it was likewise. Lunch prices were very reasonable.
(5)Amanda H.
Amazing food and service. Decided to try this spot for our last honeymoon meal, and we were not disappointed. We asked the waiter, Cesar, for a recommendation and he was spot on! The seafood combination plate was so fresh and tasty! Definitely recommend it.
(5)Mandy R.
Service was excellent! Order a pitcher of sangria and the tamales! Great date night out in Miami!!
(4)Deb C.
Wonderful menu. Easy to read choices from each SA country. Terrific service Try their corn cakes!!!terrific tidbits w salsa
(4)Tae-Sun K.
Great Groupon available for this place.
(4)Karen C.
This is a great place for late Friday night dinner. They honored my request for a quiet corner table, which still had a view of the excellent singer. The service was very nice, the sangria yummy and potent. The fish ceviche was very good as wa the steak and pork belly tapas. I tried some new tapas and all were good. It was fun nighy out with good drinks and food and live music, what more could you need.
(4)Marco J.
If you're in Miami and in the area this place is a must! Awesome service and food! We had the 7 tapas for $29.00. You choose from a list of many tapas and pick 7. What a deal with variety. Their sangria is one of the best I've had. I knew their secret ingredient the second I tasted it. I'll never tell!
(5)Vanessa H.
Best South American food I've had. Loved everything about this place. Food, music (great little spot for salsa dancing), ambiance and service.
(5)Ivan O.
Friends and I are on vacation from Chicago. I heard of this place from Groupon. All I can say is, "Delicious food and excellent customer service." Andrea was friendly and very helpful. I'm writing a review on Yelp for God's sake! (Something I usually don't do.) Whoever overlooks this restaurant is missing out! I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is visiting or living in the area.
(5)Joey C.
Great service. Amazinggggg food. Loved the traditional Colombian platter and the shredded beef with rice and beans plate. Was in miami for a week and hit up several cuban and south American spots. Versailles Caretta havana 1957 Palacios De los jugos This one stood out and remembered by the both of us. We visited boliviar at the begining of the trip and both had a yearning to come back again but never got the chance. Can't wait to visit miami again.
(5)Andrew P.
I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. With all the fierce competition in the area, Bolivar truly stands out. I have been there multiple times, and the service is always outstanding. Excellent food and excellent beverages. Prices are not over the top. Well worth stopping by if you're in town.
(5)Ms K.
As we are going to Peru this coming May, I got interested in Latin food again, in particularly Peruvian. I chose this restaurant on our visit to Miami based on the positive reviews and a Yelp deal. Bolivar covers the cuisines of Peru, Venezuela, and Colombia. With my preference for Peruvian as of late, we ordered a variety of dishes including mazorca (grilled corn on the cob), tiradito de pescado, lomo saltado, and 4 side dishes (sweet plantains, sweet potatoes, arepitas blanca, fried artichokes). HIT: Tiradito - the white fish is thinly sliced, topped by 5 distinct sauces, varying in flavors and levels of spiciness. The cubes of sweet potatoes, hominy kernels, and the corn nuts scattered about helped cut the spice in between bites. The fish is fresh and the sauces have great flavors that are different enough from each other to keep the dish exciting as I skipped around from one sauce to the next. NEUTRAL: Sweet plantains - the slices are too thick. It could have been sliced a little thinner to develop a nice crust and carmelization. Sweet potatoes - sweet and tender Fried artichokes - fried artichoke hearts coated with grated cheese MISSES: Mazorca - char grilled corn is an understatement. It was more like just CHARRED. It was not buttery at all. All I could taste was the char, the chile powder, and the grated cotija cheese. Could not taste any corn or butter. Lomo saltado - not saucy enough. The beef and potatoes were on the dry side. However, the rice was on the soggy side. Arepitas blanca - it came with dark grill marks which made the whole thing taste charred. From this one visit, my experience led me to think that Bolivar's strength is in its tiraditos and ceviches. Perhaps trying to cover an array of the dishes from the cuisines of 3 countries may be too ambitious and Bolivar should focus more on its strength. Bon appetit!
(3)Jason F.
Food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun. Highly recommend the 5 naciones ceveche. Sangria is also very good. Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. They even had salsa lessons going on.
(5)Sabra N.
Good food and audacious mixes, really good special on the delicious sangria ($2,99 until 4pm), great service. A little pricy though so you have to want to spend $60 on lunch for 2.
(4)Brian W.
The Columbian beer and soda makes for a great fusion drink. The habanero salsa that corms with the empanadas is a nice surprise. The plantains with chicken was a nice mix. Definitely a worthy south beach stop.
(4)Chauncey C.
Excellent food quality and service. Wonderful lunch specials at very reasonable prices. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is great inside and out on active Washington Avenue.
(5)Jessica A.
Food was delish. Quaint little spot with friendly servers/waitresses. The cortodito was yummy too.
(5)Lauren B.
Bolivar gave me a new found appreciation for Latin food. I'm glad it's not in my neighborhood because I'd probably eat way to much of it! I think they are still working out their service flow but the food here is a steal. I had the salmon which was good but my date had the cuban dish that had beans, rice and various types of meat and it was fabulous!! Oh yes, we also ordered the ceviche, we almost didn't take it bc it took a while but the taste was great and very fresh. The restaurant decor is dim but vibrant. The inside was slightly too loud to be romantic but sitting outside is nice for those who want it quieter and the sidewalk doesn't have too much traffic.
(4)H. D.
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!!!! During our week visit to Miami we stopped to eat here twice! Food is great, atmosphere is really nice and so was our waitress. Everything on the menu is enticing and the Argentinian wine they carry is delicious! Can't wait to head back here when we visit again!
(4)Yasiel L.
Very impressed by this restaurant. Came here on a friday night and got seated immediately. Atmosphere is perfect for a date. Dim with red lighting and lots of cool trinkets all over the place. Food was great. For appetizer I I ordered meat empanadas followed by churrasco steak entrée. Loved every bite. Service was fast and attentive. Highly recommended spot.
(5)May Ann C.
Food, drinks, service are excellent celebrated a bday dinner with friends here, the only restaurant i went in miami that really cared with customers, few restaurant i went was alright..
(5)Alex H.
I've been here several times during recent visits to South Beach & this is the best bang for your buck as far as South American food is concerned. Even Miami locals frequent this spot since the food is so good. I'm Colombian so I'm all up on their Bandeja Paisa & Fritanga which is GREAT!! Their Sangrias are awesome & their Happy Hour has to be one of the best in SOBE.
(4)Rachel K.
People are nuts. It does not look like a night club, it's cute, and the food is great. There is not a whole lot of good stuff within a couple block radius, so this one stands out. If you think it's too expensive then you shouldn't be in South Beach. (Not an advocate of South Beach, or "Sobe," just here for a class and have no idea where anything is and have found expensive and crappy food). So this is as good as it gets before you get super high end.
(5)Eriko M.
The sangria was good. The Pollo saltado was pretty good too(perhaps a little too salty?). Maybe even better than the super popular peruvian place in Downtown. The only thing I didn't like was that there was live music...it's not that they were bad. The other customers seemed to enjoy it. It was just hard to have conversations with my friends...
(3)R M.
Came on a Wednesday night, by myself, and with a Groupon. I didn't expect the warm reception I did! I was entitled to two entrees with my Groupon and had the Bandeja paisa and the churrasco for lunch the next day. EXCELLENT! Both were very tasty and tender. The service was top notch, knew their stuff, and very accommodating. Highly recommend (even at full price)!!!
(4)Sharon W.
A tour of South America on your plate! Bolivar looks like one of those fly by night joints on Washington Ave. that are constantly popping up and then folding. However, once you step inside, you realize that it is the real deal! The interior is lovely, with high ceilings and dark wood - it falls somewhere between upscale and home-y. We were seated right away by very friendly waitstaff. We started with some tapas - we went for the 2 for $8 deal, but they also have an 8 for $30 option that I might have to come back to sample! Tapas items were the fried artichokes and the Colombian sausage. The artichokes were a crisp mix of leaves and hearts and came with a variety of dipping sauces. The Mr. enjoyed the Colombian sausage, which seemed to be stuffed with rice as well as pork. Next stop - PERU - we had the parceviche, which was a seafood mix marinated in lime / mango juice. The mango cut some of the acidity of the lime without adding too much sweetness. It came with corn nuts, choclo and cubes of sweet potato atop a bed of mesclun greens. So, we got a little salad when we were finished with fish! My only complaint was that this seafood mix was a bit heavy on the cockles - not enough variety in the seafood mix. We ended with a trip to Chile via a bowl of mariscos al ajillo. This dish was the standout! It came with rice and some tostones to soak up all of the delicious garlic sauce. It made me wish I had ordered a different ceviche as it contained the same seafood mix. Next time, I would probably order a little differently to get some more variety. The only issues keeping this experience from being 5-star were that serving spoons were not provided with the food and the temperature inside the restaurant was arctic!
(4)Telma S.
The food was excellent!! The ceviche bolivar was good The sopa de pollo was delicious , so the picanha and the bandeja paisan. The ambience was very good and the service too! We will be back for sure!
(4)Randa S.
THIS PLACE ROCKED. I absolutely love south American food- particularly Columbian! Naturally, I went with the bandeja paisa which was delicious and my boyfriend went with the churrasco which was equally as tasty and tender! We also got chicken patacones as an appetizer along with a sampler of hot sauces and finished with an order of the Natas dessert! Mmmmm!!! The staff is very polite and attentive and the ambiance is very warm and welcoming. Like all of my new ventures...I went with a groupon and got a great deal. :) I would love to go back there soon!!!
(5)Shashi R.
The service here is great. The vibe is a nice young adult scene with live music (on the Saturday night we were here). My wife and I had the 7 Tapas sampler. The highlights were the skirt steak and fried cassavas. We also liked the empanadas. Not a huge fan of the fried pork bellies.
(4)Karen L.
So me and my girlfriend were delayed in south beach two extra nights. We ended up finding bolivar by coincidence and fell in love. The tostones con Carne are amazing. We actually ended up coming the night after because the atmosphere is very relaxed and the staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are in south beach, bolivar is a must!
(5)MightyMike ..
Guys, try this place! It won't disappoint! Traveled from LA to Miami and was lucky to find this jewel. Great food and ambiance! Excellent service from start to finish. Food and service are top notch!
(5)Mayra P.
Pleasantly surprised with not only food, but the service as well. The Bolivartini left me speechless. Great food and great atmosphere.
(4)F P.
I loved this place so much that I ended up going there four more times during my stay in the area. The restaurant is well located, pleasant and clean. The staff is well mannered and attentive but not intrusive. The food is well presented, very tasteful and fresh. The passion fruit flan is to die for!
(5)Erin A.
Bolivar was my husband's and my first time trying Latin American food. We were in for an absolute treat! The general atmosphere was laid back, yet sophisticated. Our server, Alfonso, was attentive but not obnoxiously intrusive. We loved his accent and explanations/recommendations for dishes that were derived from one of his South American home countries. The food was presented well and was absolutely to-die-for delicious (and I'm not a person who typically exaggerates). I had the pescado margarita and my husband tried the bandeja paisa. Both were exceptionally delicious and packed with flavor. Highly recommend this restaurant. It's a Miami Beach gem.
(5)Judy S.
My husband and I shared the 7 item tapas plate. It was excellent! The service was great! We highly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Matt R.
So delicious!! We wanted to try something different from our normal fare but representative of the Miami culture. This place was impressive. We strongly suggest the beef patacones for an appetizer. It's fried and mashed ripe banana with shredded beef on top. It's served with 4 different sauces.
(5)Victor M.
The service was great, we was attended by Louisa which was very clear in communicating with us and had great knowledge of all the dishes on the menu. Prices was reasonable the food was of great quality. Great Place
(5)Yessica C.
First and foremost, I want to give this place more than 5 stars. The waiter was nice and very polite. We even got a free delicious appetizer in the house. My boyfriend order for me a delicious Colombian plate and he order for himself delicious fried fish. The food is very delicious which compensate the price. Great music that combine with the food.
(5)Ran D.
On my recent trip to South Beach we used one of Yelps $20 for $40 online deals to Bolivar. I'm soo glad we did because we just ordered a whole bunch more to try, and everything was unbelievable! This restaurant is close to everything, and a welcomed the trip away from the tourist traps on Ocean Drive. The layout is great, has a cool bar, clean, and patio seating. The menu list the dish's country of origin and a very easy to understand description witch is supper helpful giving that this is one of my first experiences at a restaurant like this. The starters were incredible, we got the soup and the pick 2 option small plate, with 2 Beef Empanadas and Skirt Steak Strips. They've got great Sangria too! A stalk of raw sugar cane and some nutmeg really make it.
(5)NunYa B.
This place is so goooood! !!!! A must do on your list when visiting miami beach. Visited the place twice during my visit to Sobe. Service is spot on and friendly. Sangrias are tasty and cheap during weekday happy hour!!! Empanadas are a great appetizer. And if you still have room for more food at the end, try the 4-leches cake.
(5)Scott D.
This place is great! Food is great and it's quieter than some of the nice ocean drive places.
(5)Natalia G.
Ended up here because of the Yelp deal. Really glad we found this spot. A fusion of South American selections, hence the name, Bolivar offers dishes from Colombian empanadas to ceviches. The bf had lomo saltado, one of his standard go tos. It was tasty. Since we had the deal, I decided to splurge for the the Mojarra Cartagena, or whole snapper served fried. Also enjoyed this dish. Not the best fried snapper I've had but it was good. The place itself is quite colorful and comfortable. We sat by the small stage, apparently on the weekends they have live music. Not very South Beachy, which is nice since it's right on the strip. Nice place to go on a date.
(3)Del C.
Kind of stumbled into this wonderful place. The service was great and very possibly the best ceviche (several to choose from) that I've had. An absolute must try!!
(5)K M.
BF and I shared the Chilean seafood and Venezuelan beef dish and all I can say is 'wow'! A best if 2014 meal...recommend anyone in Miami beach give it a try.
(5)Reem A.
This place has a great funky latin fusion ambiance and amazing food! We went yesterday and were recomended the Eche ceviche by Santiago the manager as well as our sweet friendly waitress. It more than lived up to their recommendations...it was the BEST ceviche. We also got the shrimp ceviche which was also amazing as were the tostones and accoutrements. Great service, great food, I highly recommend! P.S. They also have great lunchtime drink specials!
(5)Lauren S.
We had the mussels and the tostones with spicy shrimp topping. Amazing! Amazing! I wish they had one of these in st Louis! So good we are thinking of returning for dinner! Great service too! Would highly recommend!
(5)Tim G.
Ate here two consecutive nights. The food is fabulous . . . the service is exceptional. The best of the best!
(5)Cyn C.
Great and "upscale" Colombian, peruvian, and venezuelan dishes. Tostones stuffed with roepa vieja were fantastic and come with four dipping sauces. Loved the sangria. Authentic but spiffed up Grand Colombia "fusion" style.
(4)Krista M.
My new favorite restaurant! Truly a hidden gem! My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice place to eat for our Saturday Date Night and we were just tired of the Lincoln Rd Restaurant scene, so I used Yelp and found Bolivar. They had great reviews and they were offering several deals. There was live music, the food was amazing and the service incredible, it felt like we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. My fave dish the Arepas for sure! I can't wait to go back! Thanks to the Manager Cesar for a great experience!
(5)dennis b.
ceviche... was lovely.. (eniche ceviche) calamari: was pretty good. fried artichoke: good fried pork belly: Nasty chicken wings: restaurant depot type.. skirt steak plate... was ehhhhhh.... being a $36 dish... I would of expect this dish to be far better than the $4.50 skirt steak option. But it was the same... just pay for the 7 appetizers for $28.. or 2 for $9 (add steak and you will be ok) sangria.. was pretty good... I went back the second time to get : eniche ceviche (was delicious) especially with the hot sauce 2 for $9 skirt steak calamari They owner??? "manager" was very friendly....

Awesome food and awesome services. Highly recommended! My first time in Miami celebrating my bachelorrete party with my girls and they took me to Bolivar. I was not a big fan of Latin food, but after dinning at Bolivar I am COMPLETELY changing my mind about Latin food 100%! The atmosphere was very relaxing with a lot of interesting paintings on the walls. It is almost like a you are in a pub somewhere in South American. Their menu is inside the wine bottle like you are on a treasure hunt and trying to figure out the message in the bottle. The service was so amazing, our server Alfonso was so genuine and sincere he gave us a little history of each dish and where it came from. He even serve us something on the house and it was Amazing! They have a free Wine if you check in on yelp and it's any kind of wine you like. The deserts menu was so cute it was taped inside a cigar box...and the deserts itself is totally to die for. We had the passion fruits creme brulee and it is so flavorful you just want more. My next trip to South Beach FL I am definately coming back to Bolivar for sure!

I'm not the most experienced ceviche reviewer but I have started to eat it a lot more since moving back to Miami. First off I was taken here by a former student as it was her treat. Then I took two friends out here on my own (my treat). And I have been satisfied each time. Each time we had two ceviche dishes (parceviche and the 5 naciones) and a number of side dishes. The plantains are wonderful, crisp but still moist on the inside. The dipping sauce choices range from extra spicy to moldy tangy. And they were more than welcoming not only for our yelp 20 for 40 deal but also the three free glasses of wine we had coming for checking. The service is friendly, bilingual, and johnny on the spot with the refills and requests. The platter sizes are a bit small that's why I give it 4 stars.

We ate here at a sidewalk table on 6/7/2014 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Everyone from the hostess, waitress, food runners and manager were pleasant, attentive and helpful. We made the mistake of ordering two appetizers and the 7 items Tapas platter. We were fairly hungry but the platter would have been more than enough and at under $30.00 it's one of the best values we've found on the beach. Everything was very well prepared and extremely flavorful. The Blood Sausage, which I was not really looking forward to, was a highlight. The sauces were all excellent as well and most added nice levels of heat.

I am a local and went for my birthday last weekend. Every single person in our party of 10 mentioned how fun the place was, how tasty the food, and how nice our waitress was. The live entertainment and special birthday presentation was unique and rememberable. I reccomend the restaurant highly as well as sharing the tapas.
(5)Dieter B.
What a great restaurant! We had 7 small dishes for $29 and everything was fantastic! They have great selection of South American beers which I've never had before. The atmosphere is great and the servers nice and attentive. They seem to use both Yelp & Groupon discounts which I took advantage of but would be willing to pay a full price just because it's so good. 5 Stars +!
(5)Lucy R.
The food was delicious! The service was great! My co-worker and I shared a number of dishes. We had the fried plantain with garlic shrimp, 3 assorted empanadas with wonderful sauces, crab cake and my most favorite one the ceviche with passion fruit.
(5)Eric W.
What a great find! Excellent food and friendly service. Came after church for Sunday brunch. Love the fusion of favors from Venezuela, Peru, Brazil and Colombia. Empanadas for starters with four tasty sauces. Passion fruit mimosas. My Colombian entree included churrasco and pork bellies. Everything fresh, flavorful and delicious. A culinary tour was taking place on the other side of the restaurant.
(5)Steven N.
Servers were great... And hot! Can't go wrong here.
(5)Doug A.
Seeing the great reviews we decided to stop in for lunch and the food was excellent. Had the Lomo saltado which was cooked and flavored perfectly. Sometimes places will use a cheap cut of meat (because it's stir fry) but this steak cut was excellent. And sometimes it can be way to salty, but here the favors were spot on.
(5)judy k.
Food was delicious and service was excellent. One of us had steak; the other had Mahdi Mahi. Great place and cozy, sexy atmosphere.
(5)Tina m.
Hands down best ceviche I've ever eaten. Also had the Colombian beef empanadas!! Yum yum yum! The sangria was great as well overall great good, service and prices! Definitely eating here again when I come back.
(5)Chase A.
I would consider this place a hidden gem, given that it's a few blocks away from the typical Miami Beach tourist trap. It remains one of the best happy hours on the beach, with delicious sangria for right around $3. The fact that my meals have been accompanied by many glasses of this sangria might color my review, but I think that's just fine. The food at Bolivar is admittedly not excellent. However, it is well-portioned, well-price, and well-balanced. There's a great variety of food available, with cuisines from all over Central and South America. You can probably find better examples at restaurants dedicated to those cuisines, but if you're indecisive, or just not picky, you'll find something to sate your palate at Bolivar. Additionally, the service has been wonderful each time I've gone. The waiters know the dishes well and can provide good recommendations, and they are very attentive in providing refills and clearing plates. Maybe years of living on the beach have lowered my standards for service, but it's among the best I've had in Miami.
(5)Matthew O.
the food was delicious! wonderful flavors, I would definitely recommend going here. Cesar gave us exceptional service - thank you for a terrific meal
(5)Mike R.
Awesome place! Great service, fun drinks and delicious food. We had the ceviche that was fish in passion fruit juice (I think?) and made a combination plate of tapas with steak, chorizo, empamandas, artichokes and a couple other things. We also received a free sample of wine and a excellent appetizer. We were there on a Friday night and they had singing and dance performances, and we were even pulled into a conga line. By far the best time we had in our 3 nights in South Beach,
(5)Carolyn A.
The service was really great from the moment we walked in the door. We got the 7 tapas plate and loved everything with the exception of the pork belly. The sangria was refreshing and the sauces served with dinner had fantastic flavor. Also, the ambience was inviting/romantic. The live music later at night was a nice touch :) Would definitely come back if in town again!
(4)Shelagh M.
It is an absolute disgrace that this place does not have 5 stars. I went with a Yelp coupon, but barely needed. The lunch prices are unthinkably cheap given the quality of the food and vicinity to beach. The place had really cheap drink specials and a huge selection of beers from Central an South America. The ceviche is inventive and delicious- you can get classic or go for a passionfruit sauce topped one. Just go without whatever the waiter tells you to do. For my meal I got a salad with blueberries, strawberries feta and a bunch of other stuff that sounds like it shouldn't be on the same plate, but they worked oh so well together. The steak my friend ordered was perfection as were her yuca fries and patacones.
(5)Bettina S.
I just ate myself silly. This place is amazing. We ordered a platter of 7 appetizers, and everything was delicious. I had 2 wonderful mojitos, and this delicious chicken with onions, rice... I don't think a review can do this place service. The service is amazing. The ambiance is romantic, beautiful mood lighting, with nice smooth background music. They also have karaoke. Yes karaoke. So of you're ever in south beach, I say check it out.
(4)Natasha M.
This place was a last minute choice and very happy about it. Beef tostones were savory and exciting and the sauces to accompany the meal was a perfect touch. For our main meal We chose the lomos salt ado which was just as good as our starter. Perfect choice spot for a causal Tuesday night.
(4)Sarah Y.
We made a reservation for 8:30 pm and called to change it to 9:00 pm early that day to find that they had lost our reservation. Made a new reservation for 9 pm then arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes early and yet again, they had lost our second reservation. We waited at the bar and were seated around 9:20, ordered immediately, then waited an hour for our appetizers with little attention from our waitress during that time. She didn't bring us water and I asked for a spoon for my soup when it finally came and after a while, I had to go to the bar and get it myself. Ordered the snapper, got food poisoning instead, had to leave early. Last night in Miami and extremely underwhelmed. I understand that on a Saturday night, a busy restaurant may be short staffed but in that case, the waitresses and hosts should be attending to their guests to the best of their ability rather than salsa dancing with each other.
(2)Caroline M.
Friendly and attentive staff! Recommended some great dishes - empanadas were delicious! Very cool wine list on a wine bottle, house Malbec was a good choice. Live singer on Saturday night which really adds to the atmosphere. Very cool spot to check out in Miami, I highly recommend!
(5)Anna V.
I came here with a group of 3 other girls, one of which was her bachelorette. The service was amazing from the time we walked in the door to when we walked out the restuarant. They were courteous and very friendly. They gave us an appetizer, a Moscow mule for the bride to be, and a free dessert on the house! They were very attentive and checked up on us periodically so they weren't annoying but just enough so that we felt like we were being cared for. The food here was delicious! One of the entrees is more than enough food for one since portions are quite big. I got the Bandeja paisa and there was so much food! The meat was tender and the egg was cooked perfectly so when you broke the yolk it was still runny which is how I like it! I would definitely come back here if I ever came to Miami again!
(5)Matthew D.
This is actually listed in the wrong place - it's between 9th and 8th and not on the corner. For those who know the UK reference, it's kind of a cross between a sports bar and an upmarket Nandos with South American models taking your order. It's fun. We were recommended the house Brazilian twist on a Mojito - twelve bucks and STRONG! You'll only need one.. We were also given a free appetiser on the house - really nice touch. We ordered seven tapas out on a huge platter. $36. Good, but not great, quality, across the board. The skirt steak was good. The service was impeccable. You really couldn't fault it. But the food knocked it from a 5 to a 4. Not outstanding. We were given 2 free drinks (each) as a thank you. I'm not sure if she could see that I was yelping (!) but either way, it just reinforced the amazing service here. Even though the food isn't the best, you'll get taken care of.
(4)Jim G.
Bolivar is a perfect lunch spot, especially if you love grilled meats. I also liked that they had so many dishes from multiple countries, it makes for a great place to try some new things. Make sure to try their "tapas" section of the menu and get the (#3) skirt steak. The tapas are obviously great for sharing. Also, ask about their lunch specials. Tomas was great and we would return if we lived in the area.
(4)James N.
FYI, Google Maps has the coordinates south of 8th, when it's actually north. The food was great and I really enjoyed the dinner experience. We darted for the tapas to get variety. Oh, we even got an appetizer on the house. I'm not really sure what it was, but will post a picture. Tapas - we got Skirt Steak, saw it as a highlight on Yelp; Garlic Shrimp, pretty small shrimp; Sautéed Mushrooms, gotta get our veggies in; Cheese Sticks, not as gooey, but really good nevertheless; Fried Calamari; and Cassava Fries. Cangrejo Galapajos (Crab Cake) - there was a surprise, sort of, spicy kick to it, which I liked. Eche Ceviche - bigger than expected portion.

I have been twice to this place on my recent trips down to South Beach Miami. Wow! Is all I can say to the service, ambiance, food, location and decor. The staff is extremely friendly and on both my visits I have felt comfortable with a warm welcoming. On this last visit, Angelyse was my server and she did an awesome job ensuring that I had at my table all I need and refilling my glass with water everything she saw that it needed to be topped off. On my first visit I ordered the bandeja paisa (traditional Colombian dish). I was a nice hardy portion of rice, meats, beans and all the goodies that come on the plate. I also had a pitcher of red Sangria which they prepare In house and was mighty delicious. The last time around I ordered the churrasco with salad and yuca fries, it was very good and meat oh so tender. I was able to find this hidden gem thanks to the awesome reviews I found on Yelp and was even more pleased to know that it was right around the corner from my hotel stay. Kudos to Bolivar staff for a job well done when it comes to Customer Service and client retention. I am definitely going back on my next trip down to SoBe!

Fantastic restaurant --- all around! We were a party of 8. Quickly seated (Wednesday night), welcomed with a complimentary appetizer for the table (delicious arepa with some kind of pique on top). We ordered a refajo for the table (Colombian drink - mix of postobono and beer) it was pretty refreshing, though they did it with colombiana and beer (still good). Some of the dishes ordered were: bandeja Paisa, fish with sauce (my dish---very yummy), pollo salteado, and a few tapas (the only thing that was tasteless were the papa criollas). Overall, great service, very attentive staff, great food, everyone was satisfied. The decor is unique, there was nice music playing in the background, and a salsa class was beginning shortly after we asked for check. I recommend coming before any classes start, if you are like me, and enjoy eating in a more relaxing atmosphere. I imagine it becoming difficult to hear others in your party, with loud Spanish music playing in background. Glad we were there before it all started. Classes seem fun though!

I loved BolÃvar and would highly recommend it. I came to BolÃvar on a Friday night and was seated promptly. We got some fruity sangria for the table while listening to the live entertainment singing popular Latin hits, making it a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. The menu has a variety of dishes from Peru and Colombia which made it hard to focus. Thankfully, our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the food preparation which helped us decide. You can't go wrong with their empanadas and yuca fritas but the arepa was delicious and sweet (almost like a dessert). I often have lomo saltado so I tried the chicken version of it (pollo saltado) and it was just as delightful. Overall, the atmosphere gets you in the right mood after a long day: a free plus that comes with dining here.
(5)Patricia M.
This place is Awesome. I'm from California, they need to have one there. They have the greatest service. They are so friendly. Food is out of this world. Great entertainment! I would definitely come back here again.
(5)Jessenia A.
Was in Maimi Beach for a vacation and was looking for a place with live music. This wasn't exactly what we wanted since there was no dancefloor, but it was a great surprise. Staff, food and performance was amazing!! There was a great verity of food. The waiter was a sweetheart! Will definitely be returning here if I am in the area. The performer was one hot woman!!! Hot bod and super nice as well with an amazing voice!
(5)Camille A.
I would fly to Miami just to come here. The staff was great even down to the hostesses. Whenever i ran out of water, someone was there very quickly to give me a refill. For tapas I had garlic shrimp, and friend plantains. Both were made to perfections. I ordered this dish that had steak with french fries. Kind of hard to explain but it was yummy. It was on the cold side but I still enjoyed it. I cant wait to come back
(4)Linda D.
The BEST meal I had in all of Miami! The best thing about this restaurant is that they feature foods from all of South America: Argentina, Peru, Columbia, etc. They offer fresh juices made in-house. Their empanadas were one of the best I ever had, which consisted of mostly crushed corn. The four sauces that come with it were each so different and I appreciate our server letting us know the difference between each of them, including the level of heat for each. Not sure what kind of white cheese they use for the patachones and Cachapa, but oh so creamy and good! Their Yuca fries were perfectly crisp and not at all greasy. They've recently moved locations and I definitely like the decor.
(5)Plamena G.
This place was AWESOME! The service, atmosphere, food, and entertainment were great! My husband and I shared the tapas platter - you pick 7 tapas of your choice for only $29. We tried the empanadas, the skirt steak strips, the garlic shrimp, the sauteed mussels, the fried calamari, the cassava fries, and the spicy grilled corn cob! We loved it all! The menus were very creative. For example, the drinks menu came in a wine bottle. We thought that was a nice touch. We also loved the live music! The singer kept walking around the restaurant and engaging everyone! It was really fun! We finished our dinner off with the passion fruit creme brulee. It flavor was different, but we still enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend Bolivar to anyone visiting Miami!
(5)Annie N.
We were really craving South American food when we flew into Miami so we saw this restaurant and fell absolutely in love. The manager help us in every way possible because our server had a big table to take care of but she was attentive and knew what we wanted from the manager. We started off the 6 ceviche sampler and then we got the big sampler plate. I really loved the fried plantains! Really enjoyed the food here!
(4)Brian J.
Ate dinner yesterday at Bolivar restaurant and lounge. Great South American cuisine. I had two cocktails with my dinner, a Blackberry mojito and a Spicy Samba which is a cocktail made with fresh pineapple, honey, ginger, lime, Caipirinha and cayenne. Both were tasty. For my entree I had the Venezuelan dish called Pescado Margarita which was pan seared Red Snapper in a tasty tamarind sauce with white rice and crunchy plaintain. It was delicious.
(5)Alba V.
AMAZING!!!!! I have to say the experience was incredible from entertainment to food and staff!!! Definitely recommend!!!
(5)Rebecca H.
We had our last dinner at Bolivar ! I loved the live music and their sangria, but the freshly made lemonade was just ridiculous ! Being that we were visiting Miami we needed to try some Peruvian food before heading back home! We ordered the 7 item platter for $33, amongst what was good was the Spicy Corn, yellow potato and the fried artichoke. The empanadas were okay to me and their desserts were not bad. I gave this place a 4 star mainly for the service! Great, and attentive staff , they were sweet enough to bring out 1 flute of champagne for our Bachelorette and brought out a mini band to sing for her! very sweet staff!

I had the chance to try Bolivar on a recent trip to Miami. We went for an early dinner on a Friday, and there was no wait. I tried the following dishes: Amuse Bouche (2/5): The restaurant offered a complimentary amuse bouche that was similar to a bruschetta. I enjoyed the topping, but the vehicle for it crumbled very quickly and tasted kind of soggy. Cangrejo Galapajos (4/5): A good tasting crab cake that came with a large salad and grilled tomatoes. The filling of the crab cake was warm, soft, and very good. The breading wasn't too thick, which was great. Eche Ceviche (2.5/5): Ceviche dish that was seasoned with lime, a sweet citrus, and came with plantain chips. I thought that the dish was too sweet and acidic, but the chips complimented the flavor well. Tapas Platter: Cheese Sticks (3.5/5): Decent cheese sticks. I definitely enjoyed them. Garlic Shrimp (3/5): The shrimp were small and looked like the kind you might find in the frozen aisle of a grocery store. However, they weren't bad, although I wish they had had a stronger garlic flavor. Sauteed Mussels (4/5): Quality mussels that were well-seasoned and cooked nicely. Sweet Plantains (4/5): Very nice plantains that were warm, sweet, and soft. I really enjoyed them. Fried Calamari (3.5/5): Standard type calamari that I enjoyed, particularly with the range of sauces that they provide with the meal. Cassava Fries (4/5): Interesting take on yuca fries that I enjoyed. They were sliced very thinly and as a result were very crispy. I enjoyed these a lot, also with the aforementioned sauces. I enjoyed my experience at Bolivar and would definitely recommend it!

After swimming all afternoon at the Miami Beach. We were searching for some good food off the tourist traps next to the beach. And glad we found here. We had the sangria which was yummy. And tried their 7 different tapas. Had the fried chicken, grilled steak, calamari, garlic shrimp, fried artichoke and fried cheesesticks and all was delicious and the perfect amount of food. Highly recommend the fried chicken. Very juicy and crispy Service was very good. Our waitress was attemptive without being overbearing. And they had a live singer which was a good touch to our meal. Overall a good place. Come check it out
(4)Cynthia M.
Caipirinha (5/5) Excellent drink. A bit strong, but tasty. Cangrejo Galapajos (Crab Cake) (4/5) - One large crab cake. Nothing special, but tasty. Eche Ceviche (3/5) - A bit too acidic for me, but still good. This portion was also a lot larger than I was expecting. Tapa Platter with: Skirt Steak, Cheese Sticks, Garlic Shrimps, Sautéed Mussels, Fried Calamari, Sweet Plantains, Cassava Fries (4.5/5) This was a beautiful, simply plated platter. Everything was delicious!
(4)Jensy S.
The service was top notch and everyone was in sync when it came to delivering the plates of food. Furthermore, the food was exceptional and very well presented on the plate. After my girlfriend and I finished with dinner we navigated our way to the bar for the remainder of the night. The bartender, Cesar, was amazing - very attentive and quick with our drink orders. This night happened to have a live singer who was very energetic. Overall, this place was AWESOME and would definitely eat here next time I am in South Beach Miami.
(5)Taylor A.
Delicious and authentic would be the two words I would use to describe Bolivar. We really enjoyed our meal here even though our server disappeared for long stretches at a time. We start with sangria and a caipirinha, both strong and tasty. For dinner we started with 5 different sauces with marinated fish. Really tasty and a gigantic portion (especially for two people). Highly recommended. For dinner we had a giant tapas plate with skirt steak, garlic shrimp, mussels, calamari, plantains, alcachofa, and grilled corn. The whole dinner was a whirwind, so I don't remember each dish specifically, but nothing was bad. We were happy and stuffed. For something a little different than the traditional Miami Beach far, look no farther than Bolivar!
(4)Tasha H.
Came here in a group of 7 and had a great experience. I loved the atmosphere and decor; there was also live music! Summary of the food: Garlic shrimp - really nice flavor and texture, lots of oil Chicken empanadas - fried empanadas, nice and crispy Mussels - a classic, done very well Calamari - nothing too special, squid had good texture Crispy green plantains - nice crispy base for the 3 different sauces that were served with it Sweet plantains - standard sweet plantains, delicious. Pollo Saltado - looked like a simple stir fry with chicken and veg with rice. Pabellón - Nice presentation, also very authentic flavor After dinner coffee came with a tiny, cute cookie. The only complaint I have is that the coffee took longer to come out than the food... so don't be in a hurry to leave!

Have you ever been to a restaurant for lunch, and you enjoyed it so much you decided you had to return the same day for dinner? Yeah, me neither... UNTIL BOLIVAR! Came here for lunch with my girlfriend, we had dinner plans with another couple, and we insisted that they try this restaurant with us. We needed another couple to verify our claims of pure restaurant excellence, and they were floored as well. Everything about this place is perfect. Stylish decor, bumpin tunes at night, amazing service, excellent drinks, and the food! THE FREAKING FOOD, MAN! Here's the skinny. This is primarily a Columbian/Argentinean tapas place, but they do serve entrees. I can attest to the pure magic that are their tapas, but sadly, my stomach is only so big, so I have yet to try any entrees--so I will tell you about the glorious tapas. First of all, you can order a sampling of 7 tapas for $33. And this platter of 7 isn't your bite sized assortment. These Columbians know how to feed you! Here is everything I have tried between my 2 visits: Skirt steak, garlic shrimp, calamari, mussels, plantanos (definitely spelled this wrong, very similar to tostones with meet on top), Yucatan fries, cheese sticks, crab cake, and empanadas. Everything listed here is on the pick 7 except for the plantanos and crab cakes. Everything listed here (including the plantanos and crab cakes) made my taste buds cry tears of joy. You absolutely MUST get the skirt steak and plantanos (I will learn how to spell this, I promise) with beef. We always ordered double skirt steak, and will forever order the stuff I can't spell because yum. If you are yelping to try something new, I sincerely hope you stumble upon my review, because if you choose this restaurant, it will change you forever. Go here AHORA! (That's about the sum of my Spanish skills).
(5)Chaddy L.
Food and atmosphere are welcoming and delicious. Sample as many appetizers as you can, I made a meal of appetizers for my friends and I and we couldn't get enough.
(5)Tiffany J.
My best friend and I enjoyed our final night in South Beach in at this restaurant!! If you're looking for an authentic Cuban restaurant with a lounge feel then this is the place for you!! The menu is extensive with small plates, tapas, and a variety of main courses!! We split several tapas options and the portions are filling!! The drink list is extensive and we enjoyed a Moscow Mule and Mojito!! The DJ played the best Latin music that enhanced the ambiance! The staff and management were very friendly too!!
(5)Alex M.
Great experience. It was decently priced and the ceviche was to die for. Hands down the best ceviche i've ever had.
(5)Lilly M.
This place is awesome! I was in Miami for 6 days and the last day I was there I couldn't figure out what to eat, as I'm walking a tour bus passes by and mentions this place. I quickly yelped it and came in. I'm so glad I came here, it was my past hours in Miami and I could've have chosen a better place. The Sangria is bomb! I got something with lomo (it's Peruvian, also bomb). The service was great as well.
(5)Carmen V.
Great food! Great service! Tried the fried calamari, perfectly cooked! Salsas were the best! Definitely try this place if you're looking for great Peruvian, Colombian food in Miami!
(5)Kristi B.
Five five five stars!!!!! I'm half Venezuelan and getting South American food in Miami was on my travel list. Found this place on yelp and impressed my friend from Miami with some Venezuelan and Colombian cuisine. Hint: you NEED a reservation unless you want to sit at the bar. They are very popular. Other than that, it was perfect. Authentic food, great service, and live music. Couldn't have asked for more.
(5)John D.
Please read my check in. I had the pavellon. Pulled beef brisket over rice and beans. Very traditional Venezuelan dish. Finished with cuatro leches. Everything was great. Brings me back to my childhood.
(5)Ted G.
Very Nice place and great food from south America. Excellent staff !! Picanha : 10/10
(5)Rose W.
After reading several really good reviews on yelp, I wanted to give Bolivar a try, and it's a good South American restaurant but probably not a 4 or 5 star in my opinion. Our server Tomas was friendly enough. To start, we were greeted with a complimentary appetizer that was delicious and one of the best things we had all lunch. We also tried the eche ceviche and patacones as small plates, and both were good. Eche ceviche had fish that came in larger chunks than we were used to and slightly watery. Our main dish that we split, the chanchita (Ecuadorian pork chop) with a sweet glaze was great in concept, but very tough and probably stayed cooking for two minutes too long. Overall a decent restaurant that has very reasonable pricing and portions for South Beach.
(3)Michelle T.
After having some delicious Venezuelan patacons and arepas at an authentic Venezuelan place (read: Venezuelan owners, totally legit!) in Mexico, I have become slightly obsessed with patacons and arepas. While visiting Miami, I read up on the menu at Bolivar. Venezuelan arepas. Check. Columbian Patacons. Check! I ordered the lunch special one day and the patacons with beef the next day. Portions were huge. The lunch special was a version of the Bandeja Pesa with only rice, beans, plantains, and pork belly. There was SO much pork belly! Tasty yes but the pork belly was a bit over fried / tough / chewy for me that I could only eat half of it. You must couple that with the plantains in your bite- it was a good mix of textures and flavors salty & sweet. I also got the Andean Blackberry juice (Mora) which was refreshing after a long really reaaally rough day of lounging around the beach ;) I recommend this - it wasn't too sweet! Now I'd really recommend the patacons. I ordered the shredded beef. You have a choice of garlic shrimp, beef, and chicken. I tried to order 1 shrimp and 2 beef but they wouldn't let me mix and match! I was super disappointed b/c I really wanted to try the garlic shrimp too. I went with beef... Crispy shell, succulent juicy beef, generous amount of meat!. The dipping sauces really made the patacon that much better. You get a variety - smoky, spicy, etc. TRY THEM ALL!! Again, the portion here was enough for me as an entree although listed as an appetizer item on the menu. Service wasn't anything too special. They have 18% gratuity added to the bill automatically. Take it or leave it!
(4)Sol C.
Dinner at Bolivar was superb! The restaurant inside was extremely lively - there was live music and lots of dancing going on. We chose to sit outside because it was such a beautiful night but we definitely missed out on the party going on inside!!! The service was okay (not great) but the food was outstanding. We started with one of their ceviches with various spicy sauces. Next, the bandeja paiso (pork cracking, steak slices, rice, red beans, avocado, corn cake and I added the morcilla sausage - don't miss out on this) and the pabellon sofrino (shredded pork atop rice and black beans) All three dishes we tried were unbelievable - some of the best Latin American food I've ever had! I don't think you can go wrong at Bolivar! Also, ask to try their hot sauces because they bring four interesting unusual types to your table ranging from mild to extreme. Huge portions, reasonable prices, wonderful flavors, and a good time all around.
(5)Omar V.
"Excellent Food and great service !" All I can say is Wow " it's as good it Look" One of the best place to have dinner at the Beach Nice and very relaxed with Latin atmosphere !
(5)Jennifer N.
One of my favorite restaurants in South Beach! I always come back here whenever I'm visiting Miami. The food is delicious and so are the drinks. It's a cute lil spot on Washington Ave, a few blocks off of South Beach, in a fairly non-descript area filled with shopping and restaurants. The staff is friendly and attentive. The place has a cozy atmosphere. I recommend a typical refreshing Colombian drink made out of beer and juice - it's very tasty! Despite the mixed reviews, this restaurant didn't let me down though as all the dishes we ordered were excellent! I highly recommend the Bandeja Paisa, a traditional Colombian dish, shrimp ceviche and the crab cakes.
(5)Tash R.
We enjoyed our lunch at Bolivar! We spent a significant amount of time in South America and all these dishes brought us back. The food was delicious! I had the platter from Colombia (I think) and consisted of delicious steak, crispy pork belly, beans, rice and an egg - highly recommend! My hubby has the churassco with chimmichuri from Argentina and said it was very tasty.

While my friends and I came here on a our last days of our trip from the Bahamas, we decided to venture around and find a place to eat. We stumbled upon Bolivar and I'm glad we did. I love tapas bars, especially when I visited Barcelona, Spain. Tapas was all the rage. Coming to Bolivar, I've never had Peruvian food but the staff were ver friendly and the inside of the restaurant was comforting. The waiter gave us suggestions as he knew we were from out of town and everything he suggested, we tried and boy were we satisfied. The ceviche was the only dish where I felt it wasn't up to par with other ceviche I've had. There wasn't enough like, the shrimp pieces were huge and overall it wasn't the greatest. Aside from the ceviche, we ordered a lot. Deep fried fish- crunchy and moist Sampler- best of all dishes. Calamari was good, corn was good, pork belly was crunchy since they fried it and mussels were good. Shrimp was ok, nothing too special. Steak flank-not pictured but to die for. I probably ate it so fast I didn't get a picture. Their chimchurri sauce is BOMB! Overall, sangria was good and my experience was good. I would come back if it were closer but for now, im on the hunt for something similar.

I've been here three times already in the last 3 weeks. I love the 7 item tapas with the chicarron at the top of the list. The sauces are also excellent. Sometimes the deep fired stuff is a little top well done but other than that, excellent. Bonus: It's in the heart of Miami South Beach. Always a chance of seeing celebs. We saw Christian Bale hanging around there.

We were down in Miami south beach the night before for our Sky Norwegian Cruise Line cruise to the Bahamas. Bolivar was the most highly #1 Yelp rated restaurant in the area so I decided to have dinner here. Bolivar is mainly a Columbia restaurant with other alternative South American cuisines. Kathy and I were immediately seated even though we arrived a little bit earlier than my reservation. We both walked to the restaurant from our Z Ocean boutique hotel. The restaurant is a little off the main south beach restaurant drag. The area is somewhat sketchy. The restaurant was not so impressive when I first entered, but, after being seated I felt very comfortable. We started with a bottle of Pellegrino for $5. I enjoyed my Margarita Bolivar for $12. I also ordered a bottle of Hurtados Merlot for a very reasonable $29. I was in the mood for seafood so I ordered cazuela pacifico for $19. Kathy ordered the marisco al ajillo also for $19. I enjoyed my dish, but, Kathy was somewhat disappointed with her dinner. I think Kathy does not like Columbian or South American cuisine. The restaurant automatically adds an 18% gratuity to the bill as was the case here so our total bill with 18% gratuity was $106.68. I did not think the service was worth more than 18%. I thought our server Lorena provided average service. I only rated this 3 stars because I was happy with my dinner, but, Kathy was not happy with her dinner or her dining experience.

try the patacones w shredded beef. it is amazing. its marinated shredded beef on top of a mashed fried plaintain. oh man. its so good and my mouth just filled with saliva as im writing this review. pataconesssssssss...where can i get you in dc! the other dishes that we had were also solid. we got the trio of empanadas (pork, chicken, and cheese) - wasnt the biggest fan of the cheese one so would stick to just the meat ones. the mariscos al ajillo was good but i would only rec if youre a fan of seafood. its a stew-like seafood medley which includes squid, octopus, and mussels. the octopus was a little overcooked but overall, not bad. this place offers dishes from a variety of latin american countries which i think is cool since you can try so many different dishes all at one place. its a couple blocks away from ocean drive so less attraction but so worth it.

So my fiancé and I had the beef empanadas, the beef tostones and the meat entree that had a fried egg on top of the rice (I forgot what it was called). All dishes were so good but by far my favorite was the beef empanadas WOW. They were so warm, fresh out of the fryer and crunchy. Simply amazing. You definitely need to get them!! The beef tostones were good too, just wish the meat on top was a bit warmer. The entree was the second best, the meat was super tasty and you could tell it's not cheap meat, not chewy at all. It's a simple dish.. Meat, egg, rice, & beans but that's my favorite combo ever, coming from a Hispanic background. **The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the sangria, kind of tasted like ehh, fake juice. Not worth it. Overall, this restaurant just did it right. They executed everything perfectly! Some people mentioned bad service but our waiter and the hostess were both great!! I'm so happy I finally went to this place and definitely want to go back.

Bolivar is a Colombian heaven in the heart of South Beach. Serving as both a restaurant and lounge, the dim lights as soon as you walk in serve as a reminder that you've arrived in Miami. The drink menu can be viewed on an empty wine bottle that sits center of the table. There you'll see a host of special cocktails along with their famous mojito, which was really good. I started out with the chicken patacones and my dining experience could have ended right there... Absolutely delicious... To the point where I almost got three more orders and ate nothing else. The chicken was juicy and marinated in something delicious, and it mixes perfect with the sweetness of the patacones. The dish is an absolute must. I then got the tapas meal which comes with a choice of seven dishes. I went with garlic shrimp, pork belly, chicken strips, calamari, sweet plantain, spicy grilled corn and empanadas. Everything was delicious except for the pork bellies. I found them to be just a little dry. Everything else was on point though, especially the garlic shrimp. This place is a must when in south beach and in the mood for a delicious Spanish meal with a smooth Miami vibe. Crowd is trendy but not overly so, but the draw here is the amazing food. Best meal of my most recent trip.
(5)Clarice C.
Happy Hour here is such a deal! 1/2 off drinks and 20% off appetizers at he bar is well worth it! We had the garlic shrimp, sautéed mussels, steak and sausage that were out of this world flavorful!!! I highly recommend going off the beaten path of the main drag that robs you for mediocre food and try authentic very well seasoned and delicious food! The plantains, yucca fries and mango ceviche were outstanding!!! Make an effort to stop here you seriously won't regret it! Don't forget though, there is auto gratuity included on parties two or more! Ambience is nice, music isn't all that great but the stuff is very easy on the eyes! Stop through when you're in south beach!
(5)Cherry A.
Excellent service and huge servings! Would definitely come back the next time I visit Miami.
(4)Dave G.
The atmosphere and the food was good but the service was not. Our dish was a little salty, so we asked for a little more rice. They charged us an extra $4 for it. Guess it's the price you pay for wanting less sodium in your body.
(4)Yendis B.
Decided to check this place out based on the Yelp reviews. It was a great choice. The food was delicious and the service was awesome. Ceasar and Arianna were great. Very hospitable and just fun to talk with. We hope we can make it back before we leave.
(5)Carol R.
This restaurant deserves five stars because is simply amazing! It was beyond my expectations. First, the customer service was great, the server and pretty much all the people there were really nice, they had such an energetic personality that made the night super comfortable and I felt like I was dinning at home. Second, the food was delicious, they don't have a long menu but the dishes they have taste and look really good. We went on a Thursday night and they were having a mini theater play which was really cute and also they had karaoke. But what I loved the most was the decoration of the place and how they focused in making every little object there colorful and meaningful.
(5)Helena W.
Service is fantastic. This place is great for a mid-day snack or dinner. We loved their complimentary rice arepa with house made tomato & onion sofrito. Hit: Appetizers - garlic shrimp and char-grilled steak Entree - Patacones with garlic shrimp...a must!! Miss: Ceviche - "Eche" Ceviche - guess they made it too sour for our taste but it was still fresh Very authentic food.
(4)Jennifer L.
Yummy! Two tapas for $10: Beef Empenadas - 4.5 stars - were excellent especially with the onion, jalapeno, cilantro and garlic sauce. The crust was very crisp and the insides delish! Garlic shrimp - 4 stars - nicely cooked very small shrimp that were excellent with the garlic and cilantro sauce. Shrimp Ceviche - 3 stars - ok but not great! Crap cakes - 2 stars - I would not order these again. They came with a ketchup/mayo type sause that I did not like and there did not seem to be too much crab in them. Drinks - 4.5 stars - we had the mojito and passion fruit martini. They were both very excellent! Tip - happy hour is from 5-8pm at the bar only! Half off drinks and some free bites. We were there for around an hour and got a pork belly and potato tapa for free! It was pretty good! We went around 6pm, sat at the bar and it was pretty empty which we expected. Things don't get going in South Beach until a bit later but we enjoyed the mellow time there:-) Service was good! Staff was friendly enough!
(4)william k.
We absolutely loved this Latin American fusion restaurant and bar! The service was super impeccable! Even though they were busy with loads of full tables when we arrive for our 9:30 reservations, we were seated almost immediately. The server changed a few times, but each one was beautiful and friendly. We were seated and ordered the house red wine. Turns out it is a Malbec! Loved it! Only $8/glass. We placed our order for the empanadas with pulled chicken. And our entrees of the salmon manuelita and --/. Just as the server left the table, the free arrepes were delivered to our table-not expected, therefore a nice surprise! They were three with tomatoes and olive oil and cilantro. Yum! The appetizer that we ordered was delicious! It also came out with three sauces: a green one (I think it was mayo with cilantro and spices, a red one (slightly spicy with a creamy texture), and a brown one that I think would set the roof on fire if left unattended!). My partner ordered the typical dish of Columbia: the first item on the entree menu. It was delicious! I had the salmon manuelita, it was good, but I'll order something else next time I come back. The most amazing thing about this restaurant is the ambience and the customer service. Even though we felt like we got great service and great attention from the servers at the end of our meal they gave us a complimentary glass of wine and apologize for giving us less than satisfactory service in their eyes. We were quite surprised but gladly drank the wine. Definitely will come back.
(5)Jacqui K.
Excellent service and even better food. My Venezuelan boyfriend said it reminded him of home. The mazorca and the empanadas were highlights but we also got the pabellon which was delicious. Drinks were strong and well made as well.
(5)nikki s.
I needed to get away from the ratchet hooplah and American, hot garbage being served on Ocean Drive so I was ecstatic to head over a block to try some Colombian/Peruvian cuisine at Bolivar on Collins Avenue. This was, by far, one of the best dining experiences I've had in South Beach. I was ecstatic to see that there was live music and a room full of celebratory patrons. What a blast! The food was great as well as the service.
(5)Melissa S.
So delicious! Visited on a Friday night, so music was blaring, but had me moving in my seat! Ordered the Mazorca for an app and Loma Saltado for my main dish. Served with a small corn cake topped with a warm salsa, on the house. Delightful! The Mazorca, so delicious! Served with three different sauces, but can stand on its own without. Pollo Saltado was amazing! The onions and chicken together is the perfect combo. A must in SoBe if your looking for some South American goodness.
(5)Kelsey S.
We discovered this spot on my last Miami trip. They got us on the walk-by, and it was so good that I came by the next day for a relaxing solo lunch. We had some light fare: the ceviche, the mazorca, and some other veggie dish that my friend had. It was delicious. I loved the array of sauces that they served with every meal. I'm a big sauce fan. I had the ceviche again on my second visit. Yum. I will definitely hit this spot next time I'm in South Beach. Bonus points: the entire staff is incredibly good looking. Ooh la la.
(5)George S.
Great, great place! So much better than the tourist traps a mere couple of blocks away on the beach. Great ambiance and a wide selection of scrumptious food and drink. Oh, do not pass on the caipirinhas! And the tapas let you taste a variety of.different dishes all in one meal.
(5)Felicia C.
Ordered the platter choices (7 things): 2x pork belly, steamed muscles, corn cake, fried calamari, fried plantains and columbian sausage. I didn't like the corn cake at all. There was no flavor and it was quite hard. Pork belly was fried a little too much but the rest were quite delicious. It also had live music. Service was attentive and very nice people.
(4)Tran T.
The entire staff were nice and friendly. I love that their drink menu is presented in a wine bottle, what a great idea. Empanadas - Great crispy shell with flavorful meat inside. Definitely yums! Tostones - Delicious meats ontop of crispy shell. Soooooo worth it!! Ceviche Shots - So not worth it, such a waste of money. Its good if you're looing for a seafood salad. But definitely not close to ceviche. I'm Asian and my ceviche is bomb diggity!
(4)Nick C.
The best place we tried in all of South Beach! We had several high end meals in our 5 days stay in Miami. This was my favorite. The flavors and taste were on another level! Beers were at a nice low price for Happy Hour. I would definitely come back here several times. Highly recommended to my friends and family.
(5)Rene R.
Delicious place to have tapas and drinks. Prices are very reasonable for South Beach, especially for such a nice restaurant. I really liked their pick 7 tapas for $33 option. It was perfect along with a side of rice and red beans for our table. They brought us a free small plate of arrepas with their house salsa on top to try. It was delicious! Our daughter loved the lulo juice (it was very tasty). I had a red sangria and it was perfect!! Highly recommend this Peruvian restaurant!
(5)Cynthia S.
Absolutely out of this world. Great portions, great price and service. So happy we didn't pick something on ocean drive. Love how they have dishes from all over South America. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly. I especially loved the bandeja paisa, it was steak and crispy pork with rice, beans, plantains, fried egg and avocado. It was fabulous.
(5)Sarah X.
I love this place! Beautifully decorated, and I really mean beautiful... I definitely liked sitting outside. Great food, and very beautifully prepared :)
(5)Kimberly K.
It was a nice spot on the beach, where everything is overpriced and underwhelming. But if you just rate their food alone (without comparing it to tragic beach food), this place is only slightly better than mediocre. We came here for lunch on a weekday during vacation.
(3)Marco D.
Great restaurant in South Beach. When we first got in it was so loud, almost got up & left but then the music calmed down and it turned out to be done of the best food we have had yet in the area. Service wasn't the best, as I had to go find the waitress so we could check out after waiting over 20 minutes after eating. I'd definitely return for the food.
(4)Cindy N.
This is the best of the best restaurants in Miami. Best dinner so far. Good service. Nice live music. A bit pricey but worth your money. Love it!
(5)Samantha R.
Omg, what a great dining experience! My friends and I coincidentally dined during a soccer game on tv and paid a flat fee of $25, which includes the entrance fee to watch the game and your meal of choice. This was our first time in Miami, so the restaurant and menu was new to us. They have a great variety and it took us awhile to decide what to order. It was funny to see other guests dance, boo, and cheer for their teams. They have several tv screens and large projectors so everyone could watch the game from different views. The food was fantastic and I ordered a couple of dishes and sides equivalent to the $25 fee. I recommend this restaurant!
(5)Susan L.
This Peruvian restaurant has absolutely amazing food and the servers were very nice. They are moving to a new location in a few weeks, so make sure you find the new place. The food items you must order: - the tasting platter - 7 items for $33 --- crispy pork belly (took chicharrons to a whole new level) --- skirt steak strips (lomo - so juicy and flavorful) --- calamari (loved the crispy outside) --- garlic shrimp - was ok --- empanadas --- chorizo - it was ok to good --- they said the plantains were good but we ordered double of the empanadas Patacones - with slow roasted beef - it was so delicious - I can't even describe it - the sauces it came with were amazing - the garlic sauce was my favorite and I used it for the calamari too! My friends loved the extremely spicy green sauce (I mean couldn't get enough of it - loved it) Choritos de la costa - this is a MUST order - the mussels cooked in a tomato / garlic base was so delicious... If I had rice, I would soak the sauce in rice or slurp it all by itself - absolutely amazing! Food items thought was okay - parceviche - mixed seafood in a mango juice served on grilled corn cake (friends enjoyed it, but the seafood didn't taste fresh or might have been too hard/over cooked for my liking) We had 17 people in our party, and while I didn't see what other people in our group ordered, everyone loved the food there. So if you order what we ordered you will love it too! Enjoy Miami!
(4)Omar Z.
Great tasting Peruvian food on Washington Ave. Low key, authentic, inexpensive. Definitely a good find. This will most def be the local go to spot when in Miami...
(4)A H.
Came here for a late lunch. The atmosphere was really nice and seems like it could be a lot of fun when they have live music. The staff was very attentive and nice about getting our orders and refilling waters. The food was okay. We ordered the Ceviche Eche, which was edible but not great. I'm a Peruvian, so I know my ceviche, and this was not what it's supposed to taste like. It was gelatinous and way too sweet. The choclo was good though, as was the yucca. My companion ordered a seafood casserole, which was very savory. I ordered a salad with chicharrones. I guess it was my fault for not knowing that Bolivian chicharrones are different from Peruvian ones, because I wasn't happy with them. The salad itself was also just objectively bad. The ratio of greens to dressing was way off (soaked with vinegar in some parts, completely dry in others), and the four measly little slices of avocado didn't live up to the description. Probably won't return here. During our meal, one of the waitresses got a delivery from My Ceviche, so we tried that the next day and the ceviche is MUCH better.
(3)Shari S.
The ambience is great. They were having a dance teaching class when we ate here which was great to watch with fun music. The real star here is the food though. We got the $33 for 7 types of tapas and everything we got was amazing. My favorite was the empanadas and my friends was the skirt steak. We highly recommend the shrimp, mussels, and artichokes too. The sauces make the dish. They give you four and every one of them was delicious. Overall the price was great especially since its in south beach and it was delixous and fun. I highly recommend! Also try the refajo A pitcher is only $16 and its really good!

It was the last day in Miami for my friends bachelorette party so last minute we decided to come here. All the previous day's were planned out at the trendy spots but yesterday was kind of a chill and relax day so we decided to check this place out. When we walked in, I already knew this was a place that I was going to like. Service was friendly and warm and vibe was relaxed and unassuming. We didn't havd reservations and got seated for a party of 8 in less than ten minutes. I don't understand how this place can be so under the radar. They gave us free appetizers... Don't remember the name but just that it was delish! I knew right away I was going to enjoy the food here a lot! Everything else we ordered was on point!!! The crispy fried pork belly was perfectly crunchy but not completely overdone. There's this green plantain appetizer that was really really good also! The lomo saltado we ordered was a bit overdone but their lemony sauce over the fries was a hit with everyone! It was pretty cool when the singer(live music) recognized the bride to be and sang in Spanish to her... So festive!!!! Hands down the best meal we had the whole trip... And the bonus was that it was also the cheapest meal we had!!!!!! Such a great place... I highly recommend everyone check this place out. It was a great way to end our trip. Thank you everyone at bolivar who made our experience there so amazing.

Great food. Bartenders excellent . I am so happy Everything we tried on the menu was perfect. The staff was attentive and the bar the bartender was fabulous and mixing a special drink for me I would go here again
(5)Sam W.
Excellent service and delicious food. My wife and I ate two tapas, two tapas and dessert and were satisfied. Wait staff was friendly and we ate before 7:00 so it was kid friendly. The menu is mostly Colombian but I recommend the empanadas, skirt steak and pork tamal. We went back a second night and had an equally pleasant experience. Also qualifies for delta sky miles dining rewards.
(4)Kristina R.
OK - I'm really torn when writing this review. I'll start with the PROS! The place is super cute and looks very authentic. The empanandas and patacones were AMAZING! They had live music that was great as the night went on (and a DJ came out around 10-11ish). The Sangria and Caiprinihas were very good as well! The Cons: The service was a 'little' slow. But I will say they were very busy (but what place isn't on a Saturday night in Miami). The live music although great was loud and made it hard to hold a conversation at the table. The biggest CON... and why I'm torn with this review is that our Ceviche was NOT good. We actually only ate a few bites b/c it was that bad. We got the mixed seafood ceviche and it came out tasting and smelling very 'fishy'. And fishy in a bad way... almost as if it had been sitting out at room temp for a few days. So, we were very disappointed as all at the table were 'craving' ceviche that particular night. :-( If it weren't for the bad Ceviche this would probably be a 4 star review.
(3)Gabrielle D.
Was taken here on the South Beach Culinary Tour. We were served a half Colombian beer/half Colombiana (soda). I thought it was wine at first, I'm not really a girl that drinks a whole lot, so that tells you why I didn't know what it was or cared for it. But to those of you that enjoy beer, you might like that drink. We were also served a beef empanada (made with corn flour) and a swai ceviche with aji. The aji was very spicy! Just from that dish I would tell you to try this place, or La Ventana which is owned by the same person, apparently, according to our guide.
(4)Irakli N.
Our favorite Latin restaurant in Miami. Food is delicious. Atmosphere is great, service is always excellent. Chitterlings are an amazing and exotic appetizer. Most everything is flavorful, well-prepared and tasteful. This place is also a little off the usual touristy paths, so not too crowded. Definitely worth your money
(5)Kevin S.
Awesome tapas 7 for 33 bucks can't beat it all were good especially the steak Very good for a couple date also had a live singer who sounded very good. Calamari was nice and crunchy
(5)François P.
Excelent place and ambience! got a ceviche and a white wine from italy, and also 2 organic juices very nice as well... Service excelent, quick and friendly, definetly one of the best places in Miami
(5)Paula F.
We were looking for good food! This restaurant was the perfect choice because the place has a fantastic energy and the menu is very interesting. The menu offers a variety of dishes from many places in South America. Everything we ordered was really really good, well seasoned and tasty. We tried the ceviche shots. You can t miss this!! Trust me! Do not skip this dish! It s really good! We also had empanadas which were also delicious. Then I had a Colombian dish called bandeja paisa which was incredibly good and the churrasco which was Argentinian. For the dessert we had the 4 leches that was like heaven. Everything was great! Service was very good and fast! There was also live music! I loved this place and highly recommend it if you want to have very well executed food for a fair price and experience Latin culture. Will be back!
(5)Julieth Z.
This place kicks Baru on the butt. The ultimate modern Colombian spot with a few more choices on food from other countries like Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. Very cool to dine and watch the soccer games live. I actually tried this place to celebrate Father's Day and it was a home run. The food was delicious, the mule drinks are on point and the service is just awesome. Very attentive and polite servers. I am definitely coming back!
(5)Thuy H.
Being in Miami, I had to make it a point to stop at some Columbian food spot. This place did not dissappoint. I had reservations set for a certain time, but arrived very early. They were able to accomodate and seat us right away. Price is a tad on the high side for the portions, but they were mostly delicious. Our table orders to share, so we really got to sample a good amount of their menu. We ordered tons of appetizers (empanadas, corn, shrimp, plaintains, pork belly, and more), a whole fried fish, a cheese platter, shredded beef patacons, and ceviche sampler. What stood out the most was the fish. So nice and crispy and beyond flavorful. Small for the size of our group, but this is definately worth trying. My son killed it! Didn't stand out was the ceviche. I recommend just skipping it at all. Flavors weren't really there and it was so small. Also, skip the blackberry juice. EWWW!!!! All other items were great too. Loved the crispy pork belly and the corn topped with cheese and spices. Come here if you're in Miami!
(4)Winnie C.
Came to try out this place based on raving reviews, but very disappointed. Reviews must have been written by tourists all over the world that have never tried South American food before. Though it's not expensive, but I think this place is just another typical south beach restaurant that try to fool tourists.
(3)Nelxy M.
Amazing place to come eat at any time . The at miser of this place is amazing , great decoration !!! And the food is spectacular ... Great prices too !!! Wine and beer happy hour from 12-4pm $3.99 !!! I can come to this place at any time and I know I will always have great food !!
(5)Susan L.
So good! The menu was made to share -- 4 people including me split a plate of 7 tapas, chicken patacones, garlic shrimp, and ceviche. All of it was really tasty but the patacones especially had us thirsting for more. I really like the vibe of this place, the servers are really nice and the music gets more bumpin' as the night progresses. Also, they give the most turnt up birthday service ever (spoiler alert: it involves tequila). And don't forget to take a selfie with the big poster of James Rodriguez outside the bathroom.
(5)Lauren C.
My boyfriend and I had dinner here and had a great experience! We had a reservation for a Sunday night but it didn't seem necessary. The waiters and waitresses were very nice and attentive. We ordered sangria after it being recommended to us by our waitress and it was delicious (and strong!). They brought out an appetizer on the house which was a corn cake with homemade salsa on it- quite good! The menu had tons of options including tapas and entrees. For our meal we ordered 7 tapas for $33. It was such a great deal and we were pleased with the food. Our favorites are the cheese sticks, skirt steak and grilled chicken, but all were delicious. Definitely a place to go to if you are in the Miami area!
(4)Lei H.
Definitely a 4.5 stars. Wish I can give that directly. Food was quite awesome. We opted for the 7 tapas deal + whole crispy snapper. I also used a restaurant.com $50. Coupon for $12. Great experience. Good attentive service and the food was yummy super satisfying. For the tapas, we got empanadas, skirt steak, fried calamari, blood sausage, fried artichokes, garlic prawns, and spicy corn. All were delicious. I especially loved the skirt steak and garlic prawns. The whole snapper was divine. Thought we would be too full to eat it all but we had every last piece of the frying goodness. I also had the lulo juice and hubby had a Colombian drink. My juice was just ok. He really enjoyed his drink. Overall highly recommend it
(4)Bri B.
My husband and I went here due to the good reviews to celebrate a family event. Firstly, we live in MIA and if you're a local, let it be known this place is packed with tourists, which makes sense due to its location. Second, the atmosphere is a try hard salsa lounge ish thing but it does lack a bit of personality/ differential and it is mid range, so nothing fancy. The food was fine, but that's it, nothing particularly amazing or noteworthy. My husband had a battered type of fish and I had a parrilla meat. They offer a mix of different South and Central American dishes, a bit of everything, so I wouldn't define this place as Peruvian per se. I do have to say though we did not try the ceviches, which seem to be great. The best part of the experience was the service: it was simply excellent, and the cost benefit for what we were served was also very fair.
(3)Jessica F.
Vacationing in Miami and stepped into Bolivar. The food was good the staff was very friendly. They had a live performer, he was pretty good just a little too loud. I'd go back and just ask to be seated further away from the stage.
(4)Cecilia L.
This place was delicious! We had the pollo saltado and empanadas bomb.com . the cucumber mule is so refreshing!so far my favorite South beach restaurant.
(5)Yandhira F.
I was a bit skeptical when I first came here but am I glad we came here. The food, the service was so good! The 7 tapas was amazingly the services thumbs up! The lemonade honestly really refreshing!
(5)Denise T.
The website for this place does no justice when you look up there food menu. That is the only reason why I took off a star. We almost decided not to come to this place because of it. We were a group of 4. The food was delish! Out of all the plates we had, the churrasco and the pulled shredded beef was our favorite! We will defiantly be coming here again!
(4)Kevin W.
Excellent apps and drinks that we had here. There was a soda / beer mix drink that was delicious. Also they have some great spicy stuff. We came on a weekday during a function with a group , during the afternoon but it appeared like this place pops off during prime night hours. Good for apps and drinks I can say that if you are down in Miami,
(4)Jason L.
Stopped in because of the reviews on Yelp and was not disappointed. Food was Amazing! Atmosphere even better. Will be back next time in Miami.
(5)Tao Z.
The dish's sources are very nice! Small restaurant, but very nice. If you guys have time; it's really good place.
(5)Anh T.
Everything was marvelous. The food looks great and it comes in reasonable prices. Free corncake appetizer Service is quite friendly The atmosphere is beyond compared. Live music !!!!
(5)Danielle L.
Brilliant food brilliant staff and brilliant night out. Not being a local I wanted somewhere good to go for dinner and this place didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is lively and fun the food is plentiful and the wait staff are very helpful. We had the 7 tapas option and 1 appetizer to share and couldn't finish it all (but we did still have dessert which was awesome )

Great food for fair pricing especially for tapas in Miami! we got the tapas selection of 7 for $33, everything was tasty, the sweet plantain sides were sooo yummy. Very friendly service, and the decor was nice dimly lit and intimate.
(5)Caprice F.
I had a delicious meal with friends here while visiting Miami this past fall. The food is delicious and the drinks are strong and amazing! The wait staff was excellent and courteous. They offered us complimentary tapas which was a great introduction to the feast that we were about to enjoy.
(5)Christine W.
Amazing dinner! The ceviche was great, as was the skirt steak, fried artichokes & spicy corn on the cob. The servers were warm & friendly. The caipirinhas & mules were strong & refreshing. We will only be in town for 2 more days, but we've already decided to come back for lunch or dinner before we leave!

Last dinner of my trip to Florida, and I wanted to experiment something new. After some reviews on yelp I decided to try Columbian/Venezuelan food. The staff was kind and explained the menu as requested, but it seemed easier to speak Spanish than English in there, what was a little bit unconfortable, even for a Portuguese speaker. The Peruvian ceviche options seemed good, but the main goal was to try something different. The sweet Venezuelan Arepas were a good appetizer choice - they were of soft pankakes served with cheese on top of it. As main dish, I ordered the traditional Columbian Paisana, which included fried pork belly (chicharron/torresmo), sausages, pieces of steak, rice with egg and beans and avocado. At first glance it appears too little food, but the plate is big and stuffs a hungry person on itself. The food is good, but definitely not a bargain for a $$ restaurant.

Check this place out if you're new to town. Wouldn't hurt to have a small Spanish vocabulary for better service--I find this fact to be a layer of charm on top of good cuisine and drinks. I will definitely come back here next time I'm in town.
(4)Crystal O.
My husband had the Bandeja Paisa and I had the Pollo Andino. Amazing flavors! We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly service. Freshly squeezed juices are quite refreshing in the humid Miami weather. What a lovely find!
(5)Cesar P.
Excellent place to have dinner with family friends and coworkers. Service is excellent they have large tv's for watching any sporting events and the live band is excellent.
(5)Charles M.
Great place off the beaten path of Ocean drive...nice to get away. Cozy romantic atmosphere with live entertainment. Great menu. Highly recommend it when in SoBe.
(4)Victor M.
This has been a long time coming as all of my Peruvian and Colombian friends raved about this place. Honestly, they got a single star because they were playing the best music of any restaurant that I have been to in a long time. Service is good as well, but we came here to eat not socialize/dance. Had the bandeja paisa (extremely disappointing), Cazuela Pacifica (lobster bisque - the good taste), lomo salteado (without brine and burned steak!) the Maduros were excellent. The mojarra fried had no flavor and the coconut rice was overly sweet. My biggest issue with the place is that the patacones are from a frozen bag. For the prices they are charging they should have real plantains, twice fried like Limon y Sabor on Biscayne Blvd. Btw, the mix ceviche was the worst I have ever eaten, but the sauces were good and spicy, which made that appetizer a neutral. Come here if you're really hungry!
(1)Lisa H.
Very nice South American restaurant! I don't know what I ordered (actually my husband randomly ordered two dishes) but both taste pretty good. A lot of alcohols but we didn't have any. Lovely place.
(5)Yvette B.
Out in Miami with a group of ladies and we came across this place. It was a great pick the food was good and the staff was friendly. I would most definitely come back when I'm out in Miami.
(4)Vince C.
Beef is perfectly cooked, my fav. I also love the shots with mango sauce, the Colombian sausage is delicious and has a good texture. The fried pork belly slices are not the best I had but still outstanding with the spicy sauce. Overall it's great quality.
(5)Karen L.
Came here while I was visiting MIA. Friends and I did the South Beach Food Tour. This was their second stop but it was my favorite!! I loved their empanadas and the special Columbian drink, the refajo!! It's a mix of beer and Columbian cream soda. YUM YUM YUM!! I will definitely be coming back for more!
(4)Ida L.
For a quick bite, the tostones were wonderful! Flavorful, juicy , accompanied by the crispy plantain crackers. They also serve some sauces on the side. I recommend the green one, which is most spicy, but balances the grease out. The place has a good ambience and interesting decors -- their alcohol menu is placed in a wine bottle and you read through the glass! =D
(4)Tony P.
I had a great experience there!!
(3)Arthur G.
Great all around. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good and fairly priced. My personal recommendation is the Ceviche which was very unique and delicious!
(5)Monique T.
One of the best places I've eaten in South beach. I ordered the lomo Saltado and got sweet plantains instead of fries. So mouth watering!! A lot of the restaurants on ocean dr are subpar and not worth it. I would definitely recommend walking a couple of blocks down to Washington ave and trying authentic, delicious food.
(4)Bri A.
Cute Spot, Friendly Staff, Good Food & Excellent Sangria! So the hubs was flipping through TV channels and saw this little gem on one of the visit/travel Florida stations. Something caught his eye and he said we have to go here. Really glad we did! The place is not a tourist trap like many others in the area. Located on an unassuming (and not so pretty block) of Washington. However, the front patio seating and the inside are very comfortable. We each started with a glass of Sangria - it was so good! Filled with fruit and a sugar cane stick (which I love). The hubs switched to beer after that and the staff was super helpful in helping to choose a good one - they had multiple beers from South & Central American countries he hadn't tried. We placed an order for two appetizers and while we waited they gave us mini arepas topped with a tomato tapenade on the house. Complimentary food is always good - but in this case they were also actually really tasty! First, we ordered Fried Plantains, which came with three different dipping sauces. The plantains were were crispy, much more crispy than I've had in the past, but we loved them (always good to try things in a new way!) and the the sauces were equally as good, ranging from spicy to slightly sweet. Next we ordered the Morcilla. I've never been a huge fan of Morcilla, because I know what it's made of - but if you don't think about it, it's actually quite delicious. This was no exception - the outside was crisp and the inside full of flavor. Prices were great for being in SB and we will definitely return for a full dinner as this visit was during a bar hop :)
(4)Kimmi V.
While eating our way through Miami had lunch here on Saturday. Thanks to some great yelp reviews. Ceviche in mango salsa, excellent. Sangria, best I've ever had. Empanadas, ordered twice. Argentinian style beef entree was great. If we lived in Miami this would be a regular go to for us. Parking was tough but the hotel next door has valet for $10.
(5)Monique E.
Second time here, and its amazing. The staff is friendly and very hospitable. The food is wonderfully seasoned and prepared. The restaurant is warm and inviting. If I lived in the area, I would definitely be a regular.
(5)Christina L.
I've never had such amazing delicious South American food in America! We got fresh ceviche and some beef on crispy plantains for appetizers. The ceviche was very fresh and shredded beef was extremely savory. We checked in and got a free shot! I got seafood in red sauce for my main course. It comes with plantains and rice. I switched the rice with yuca fries which was nice of them. Of course I couldn't finish it, but took it home and ate it the next day LOL
(5)Gautam V.
Went for dinner. Ordered chicken with potatoes fries and onions with a side if rice. Nothing spectacular, mediocre at best. My companion ordered Salmon and that was just ok. Doesn't add up the reviews and the food served. Would give it a miss. MUCH better South american eateries around.
(2)Merry M.
Such a cute and fun little spot. Came in for a late lunch/early dinner and it was fantastic. Got the deep fried red tilapia whole fish with coconut rice and fried plantains. So far, my favorite meal in SoBe. The fish was seasoned just fried and fried to perfection. The meat was still juicy and flakey and the outside was crispy- but not burned. Probably the best whole fish I've ever had. Service was also great!
(5)Trysha L.
The food here is absolutely amazing. Everything was seasoned perfectly and all the dishes are super tasty. The portions are just right with a little bit to take home if you're not feeling really hungry. The service is friendly, the music is great, and the atmosphere is so live. The only complaints that I have are that the music is a bit too loud and the food took a while to come out but the music was live (the singer was terrific!) and the wait wasn't horrible. So worth the money.
(4)Elizabeth B.
This was one of my favorite places I ate while visiting Miami. authentic fusion of Brazilian and Columbian food. I discovered this little gem while on a culinary tour and knew I had to come back here for a full meal. Everything about this place is awesome. The food is amazing and flavors will make your tastebuds excited. One of the best items I had was the ceviche both on the tour and when I went back. I had the eche ceviche and also the 6 shooter ceviche. The seafood is prepared perfectly and so fresh. The eche and shrimp ceviche with mango and lemon is delicious. The empanadas are very addicting and fried to perfection. The dipping sauces are a beautiful compliment to an already fantastic empanadas . For my main entree -The meat was well seasoned and went perfectly with the rice and beans. The Colombian sausage has a little kick but not overly hot. I throughly enjoyed my meal here and had the honor of meeting the owner. Excellent service and five stars all around !! This place is about a 5 min walk from ocean drive if your staying near The Beacon.
(5)Betty T.
The staff was very attentive to us the entire time. We really appreciated this. We didn't have to ask for refills as they were already on top of it. The food was delicious and the sangria is a must try. Our server recommended it and we are glad she did! Love this place!
(5)Brian K.
This place was the bomb.com . Service was great, food was amazing, authentic latin food. I was so much happier about life afterwards. I had the bandeja paisa and my fiance had the pabellon. Both were amazing and the sangria was really good as well.
(5)Elizabeth M.
You really get the bang for your buck. My family of 6 split two of the 6 tapas platters. Even though my mother is a vegetarian she thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp, artichoke and potatoes, while the rest of us dug into the churrasco and pork. Loved this place and the platter makes it an enjoyable experience. Love music sometimes, too!
(4)Mandy W.
Great food, great service, great prices and all around great place. We had the patacon chicken appetizer salmon mannuelita and churrasco. All tatsed delicios also ordered one of they're fresh juices which was great but they only had one bottle of the mango pineapple orange so they gave us a small appetizer for free. Should definitely go if your in Miami.
(5)Caroline B.
Amazing, mouth watering churrasco. My friend usted the bandeja paisa. ......amazing!
(5)Chris C.
First the service was "dope." The place was packed and there was no room to sit, so we were about to leave but then the manager created a table us in a nice spot so that we can eat. The server recommended some Colombian favorites and they were really good. The server even gave us a history lesson on the meaning of the name "Bolivar" and told us a little about the owners. The atmosphere was rich with their culture and all the workers were really friendly to us. NOW, for the food...okay! I ordered the Bandeja Paisa, which is the traditional Colombian platter and the cuatro leches cake for dessert, which is the best that I ever had...I would go back there for the cuatro leches cake alone!!!! **Note: This place is a good place to have a 4th of 5th date. Someone that you are really "feelin'" and wanna continue seeing.
(5)Sha P.
Amazing food, and our waitress was great. She was very cute and made recommendations. we ordered the chicken empanada and 7-item tapas platter and a pitcher of sangria. Plenty of food for 2 people. Chicken wings melted in my mouth. The only thing I didn't go crazy for was the skirt steak strips, which was still ok. Just not mind blowing like the rest of items. Food and drinks were aesthetically pleasant! You want your food to look good as much as it tastes good ;-) Loved our experience and definitely recommend this place.
(5)John T.
We found Bolivar based on excellent Yelp reviews. Service: the staff was VERY helpful, extremely friendly and were willing to do anything to make our dining experience amazing! They had great suggestions and were very prompt with service, always with a smile! Ambiance: also great. It was intimidate but still open. We sat outside at first but then requested to be moved inside because it was so inside. Well decorated and appropriately lit. Food: the chef brought us a small appetizer that was delicious! For dinner, we got the 7-course tapas, cheviche and empanadas, with a bottle of sangria. It was just enough food for 3 hungry travelers. I definitely recommend the 7-course tapas - plenty of dishes for the choosing. The presentation was beautiful, with the tapas served on a beautiful platter for sharing. Everything tasted great too! Delicate tapas flavors augmented by mild to very spicy dipping sauces. I'm so glad we found Bolivar and will DEFINITELY be back again! Thanks for the memorable dining experience!!
(5)Frank G.
Start with an on the house appetizer, relax with the spot on service and enjoy the following courses. Don't forget to try the sampler ceviche while sipping a house cocktail with live music. Your mouth and ears will be equally entertained.
(4)Cassie G.
Sister restaurant of La Ventana across the way, Bolivar is a bigger restaurant with a full bar, music stage, patio seating and more food options that are not just Colombian. If you're on the Beach looking for a nice meal out, this is definitely a place I recommend to locals and tourists alike. I was first introduced to this resto through Miami Culinary Tours. After trying a taste of their offerings including beef empanadas, patacones with shredded chicken and refajo (we'll come back to that), I was eager to return for an actual meal. I kept seeing a Groupon for the spot so bought it and returned with my Colombian boyfriend. So yes, the expectations were high. To start, we got the Colombian sausages (I'm a sucker for blood sausage) and for my main, went with the mojarra Cartagena. It's a fish cooked in the traditional style of this Caribbean city which means the whole fish is deep fried. I would've been intimidated ordering this if the person city across from me wasn't versed in how to approach it as there are some standard rules (hint: some people eat the eyes). He enjoyed his bandeja paisa, the signature dish of Colombia and the kind of platter that's certain to send you into a food coma. Ok, now let's talk about refajo. If you've never had this Colombian shandy-esque beverage then you're missing out. It's a blend of Colombian beer (here they use Aguila) and Colombiana, a fruity cream soda. The ratio is about 2:1 (two beers, of course!) and it's delicious, refreshing and served in a carafe for sharing! Just order it and thank me later. Some nights they bring in live music and I hear it can get pretty lively! I don't go out of my way to go spend a night in SoBe often but would think about making an exception to come here.
(4)Chloe F.
Food was DELICIOUS and I would have given more stars, but we sat at the bar for over 10 minutes waiting for the bar tender to stop watching the soccer game to ask us if we would like a drink or service. But I did notice they offered take out, so I would for sure order food to go from there, because the food is something worth going for!
(3)Sim A.
Fantastic!!!!!!! I went her for a dinner for my friend's bachelorette on a Thursday night. We started the "night" out here with reservations for 10pm. The food was very good. I'd rate that 4 stars - and everything else (mentioned below) as 5 stars. We got the platter where we chose 7 tapas dishes and the shrimp ceviche. I don't eat shrimp, therefore cannot comment on the shrimp - but the yuca, sweet potato, and corn on the side of it were good. The 7 tapas were mostly good, and a few great like the steak strips and corn. (As odd as that may sound, the corn really is delicious). It was a perfect amount of food (if not too much) to feed 4 hungry girls. The customer service was impeccable - fast, friendly, smiling, and they made the bride to be feel really special. At the end of our dinner, a few people from the staff came by and sang for her in Spanish. They made a make shift bridal cowboy hat for the bride to be and gave us goofy hats as well as the bridesmaids. Made for great pics and a lot of fun! I love the peaceful but exciting feeling of the restaurant. The live music definitely adds pluses to the environment. The singer came and sand with us directly at our table.
(5)Matt T.
Simply fantastic. We came on a night that didn't have live music, if they did it would have been 6 stars. Great food, great staff and a great place to eat off the touristy road on South Beach.
(5)Vikram M.
Bolivar serves up very good quality Argentinian and other South American dishes. The quality of the food is very good, the service is very good, and on this Sunday night, they had a performer singing songs on their stage who was very good. The music at the appropriate volume level, not so loud that other conversation was inaudible. I highly recommend this place if you actually like food. If you are primarily interested in people watching (i.e., watching people who are wildly inappropriately clad or inappropriately behaved) then go to Ocean. If you want to enjoy a great meal in a sophisticated but not stuffy environment, then this is for you.
(4)Jessica G.
I have to say, this was a very special meal, especially related to the diverse Latin American items offered on the menu. I went there looking forward to Peruvian and Ecuadorian offerings, as I mentioned on the few reviews I read. But, I loved the lazy susan of tapas that we ordered from our choice of maybe a dozen different options, representative of all over Latin America. Plus, the sangria at Bolivar is very good; I'm pretty particular about sangria and personally, this was a nice one for my taste. The service was excellent as well and it was an overall nice and casual evening out.
(5)Nicholas G.
Ordered chicken which was just alright and my friend's weren't very impressed with their either. Went for lunch and our bill was pretty pricey for lunch.
(3)Kandice L.
The drinks were amazing but that is really it. I had high hopes for an inventive take on tapas, and instead was disappointed by the bland and boring food. Can't really recommend this place.
(2)Gnocchi E.
AWESOME - best food, service, atmosphere and nice people!
(5)Tony M.
And in conclusion...... Bolivar is well priced for the quality of food and service that you receive. The 2 of us shared a salad and the 7 choice tapas. This left just enough room for dessert if you choose. The stand out item for me was the artichoke from the tapas section.
(5)Veronica P.
Amazing food, legit south american dishes, cool decor and menus. Highly recommend the patacones.
(4)Scarlet G.
Wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I went here on a recommendation and was not disappointed. I decided to go with the mussels and the empanadas (both on appetizer menu) and they were absolutely incredible. I had the best caipirinha I've ever had and it was STRONG! Dessert was cuatro leches and wow. Just wow. So decadent. Service was stellar. Laid back and attentive at the same time. I immediately came back to the hotel and told the staff they should recommend it to others. I know I will be!
(5)Mike M.
I would have loved to give this cute place at least 4 stars because it was really good and authentic, but when we were outside, they advertised a lunch "special" from 12-4. We walked in at 19 to 3 and the waiter, Tomas, told us that no, sorry, there was no special at that time, as they were turning over the menu. He told me that the special ended at 3, even though it was clearly advertised on ALL the menus and signs both inside and outside the restaurant that the lunch special was until 4! Oops, he blamed it on a printing error. Well then fix ur! Don't keep advertising something you won't honor! Back to the food.,, the Yelp review about the Bandeja Paisa was totally on point. I loved it! And the trio of empanadas were perfection as well! Happy hour between 5-8 with half price drinks and free "bites" sounded like I would want to come back... To try the Sangria and Mojitos! One last complaint. I wanted to sample a dish before I purchased it, just a bite or a spoonful, but Tomas told me no. Not happy with Tomas. He should have asked a manager or the chef before he made that blanket decision!
(3)Paty D.
I came here for lunch on Sunday after looking for a not so expensive restaurant in the South Beach area with good reviews. This was such a great choice! Service was excellent, style and decorations very cool, Latin flavor. The food was amazing! I had the pork with passion fruit, the empanadas, the ceviche shots (highly recommend!) and the patacones! You will not be disappointed here and you will get plenty of food! (Unlike other similarly priced restaurants in the area). They were kind enough to give is a complimentary appetizers, which was also delicious. No wonder this place is a stop of a local food tour!!
(5)Bradley C.
Always a enjoyable and excellent meal! The drinks are hand crafted and the food prepared just so. I return every time I come to Miami.
(5)Christine R.
I started with the shrimp and corn chowder....absolutely delicious. Then, I had the house special which included rice and beans, skirt steak and pork bellies. It was cooked well but thought it could use a little more seasoning. My husband had the whole, deep fried snapper. The presentation was beautiful but again a little lackluster for our taste. But all in all a really cute place with a friendly wait staff.
(4)Kathryne Mei V.
EXCELLENT SERVICE & FOOD. Stumbled upon this place after a quick search on yelp to find this highly rated place. Quickly attended to by a friendly hostess and introduced to the wide variety of ethnic food of Peruvian/Columbian food. After placing our order, we were later given a complimentary appetizer as well. The food was a little pricey overall, and would like to have seen a little larger portions. The paisa dish was a combination of crispy fried pork belly and juicy pieces of steak, accompanied with egg, rice, beans and sweet fried plantains. Would recommend!
(4)Jonathan Y.
Enjoyed this Latin American spot on our trip to Miami. I had the traditional Columbian entree which was tasty and a good portion size. My wife had the chimmichuri steak entree which she liked, great steak and salad but not the best sweet plantains Only peeve was that as a tourist I didn't realize that gratuity was included on the bill and the waiter didn't mention it. Might be customary here but I almost paid an additional tip. Would recommend this spot for a good authentic meal in South Beach
(4)Patricia C.
We decided to do tapas instead of doing meals! That was a great decision!!!! We tried a bunch of different things. Hats off to the skirt steak and the empanadas. My favorite were the crispy chitterlings which aren't on most menus. the pork belly rocked and the crib was good but I like mine a bit more tender. All in all we are happy we picked this during our trip to SOBE.
(4)Paula V.
Service was great! Everyone was super friendly and the complementary arepas were on FIRE!! from the hostess to the bussboy the customer service was great. We got a great table and our waitress was really nice! I had the Pollo Andino, my bf had the bandeja paisa and my son got the skirt steak strips with French fries along with empanadas de queso and beef as appetizers. We would come back for the ceviche. Only thing I didn't like the amount of wine they pored on my glass it was way less than 5oz.
(5)Julie Z.
Really solid lunch place. Decorated inside with vibrant colors and art deco pieces that are found everywhere in south beach. Has a great craft beer selection from Latin American counties. I had a margarita which was excellent. Lunch was great - my dish was rice with a fried egg/ chicarones/ avocado/ steak/ beans/ and fried yuca. Both of my friends really enjoyed their meals as well. Will plan on coming back here when I'm back in south beach.
(4)Ira H.
I had to check this place out with all the yelp hype. Let me say right off the bat 5 stars. Yelp and Bolivar didn't disappoint. The food was delicious and the service was right on point. Loved everything about this place. I just walked out so full. I'll be back soon.
(5)Mauricio V.
Wow! That's what sums this place up! The food is great, featuring plates from various South American countries, the service is top notch, and the atmosphere is lively. This place is worth the drive, no matter where you're driving from. Heck, I'd drive here from New York if I could. I'm definitely a BIG FAN of this place.
(5)Jacqui B.
This place was amazing! Loud music, great food, awesome drinks, and very friendly waiters. Everyone was there to have fun. Highly suggest it for dinner or a stop before you go out. I recommend the tapas platter to share which is 7 options for under $40 and plenty of food for 2 or 3 people.
(5)Serge U.
Amazing tasty food! We tried multiple dishes and it's all amazing. Bartender lady was very friendly in helping to select drinks and custom make drinks for us. Awesome drinks and professional courteous service!
(5)Julio G.
Can't wait to come back to this place! Amazing food and amazing staff !!! Live music who made the place even better !
(5)Brian M.
If you are a tourist like I was, and like much of the clientele in South Beach, you might be thinking something along the lines of "Hey, I'd like to try some South American dishes while I'm here, given the demographics of the area." Unfortunately that conflicts with "Hey, I'm only here for 2-3 days and I've gotta get some Cuban meals in here too and there's like a dozen countries in South America soooo...what do I do?" Answer: Just come to Bolivar, the Colombian restaurant named like it's Bolivian that specializes in Brazilian, Venezuelan, Argentinian, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, and Chilean foods. That being said I ended up here before the Columbia-Brazil World Cup game and this place was most definitely run by Colombians. As such, out of one part fear one part salivation I mainly stuck to Colombian dishes this day. Picanha looks great but not a half hour before Los Cafeteros are taking the pitch. I'll have an Aguila with my Bandeja Paisa, por favor. Overall the meal was nice - the patacones in particular one of the better things I ate in my 4 days in South Florida. Definitely go with those. Otherwise service was a bit spotty but I'll excuse that due to pregame preparations. You could definitely do way worse around here.
(4)Katie N.
This place is overrated. The food was ok and it felt touristy. I'm still unsure why their ratings was so high. It feels like the Olive Garden of Cuban/Columbian food.
(2)Meghan S.
Um...YES MORE PLEASE! I would be a regular at this restaurant if I lived in Miami. It was one of the best meals I've had while traveling across the US, and I travel to a different state once a month. The service isn't 100%, but everyone is friendly. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa. I mean wow! The flavors are amazing. My coworker and I were given a cornmeal, sweet bruschetta type appetizer on the house. I could have eaten several of those and called it a day. I also ordered the Mazorca as an appetizer. Who doesn't love corn covered in a zesty cheese and then charred?!?! DEF GO HERE!!!
(5)Samantha S.
I absolutely loved my experience at BolÃvar! As someone who used to live in Latin America (and as a Spanish teacher,) I have missed the authentic multicultural cuisine. Right upon entering, the staff was friendly and warm. I went on Valentine's evening. The male host gave us beautiful red roses. As we sat down, we looked over the drink menu posted on a wine bottle. I found that to be a very creative touch. Several people came over to make sure that we were comfortable and that our orders were taken care of. Now onto the food: I LOVED the tapas we ordered. We had plantains, morsilla (which, as a former resident of Argentina, I LOVE,) and empanadas. The sauces that accompanied the dishes were also great. As our main, we ordered a Venezuelan pork dish with rice and beans. I try to avoid eating an entire plate. However, I couldn't help myself. It was all too delicious to pass up! My only critique is that I wish there had been some space in the back for dancing. Perhaps they have it on other nights. The music was so great! I remember sitting in my seat and shaking my shoulders and hips to the music. If more dancing could be infused, I'd give this restaurant 5 stars hands down. I can't wait to dine there again upon my next visit to Miami!

Bolivar was magical with its multi colored lights in a dark mysterious setting, too bad the bartender had that Miami attitude that goes something like "you're an asshole." Flat affect, curtly assertions, where unhumourous sarcasm is the livliest it gets. "This is it." She firmly held up a bottle, as a greeting. "What are the drink specials?" I asked "No. This is it." I pointed to the menu where it said $2.99 wine sangria and beer. "I'd like a happy hour red wine." "This is it." She acted like I was an idiot. I was ready to fight for happy hour. I was. I mean $3 wines, that's good anywhere. "No this is it." "How much" I asked "$3.50" You get the idea. She proceeded to denigrate me as she made me repeat my drink order like I should be an ashamed child with a red neon sign above my head flashing "retard". The sign behind her said "free bites at the bar", so did the menu. "What's the food special for happy hour?." She pointed out the Monday special of tripe soup for $9. Man she sure didn't want to give me that free bite. I almost didn't have the heart to stab her on the customer service loin one more time but I did point out the sign behind her. The bite came - two fatty meats on a stick. It was free and I felt victory but I can't say it was good because I already felt humiliated and needed to go to a Catholic Church and cleanse this demon. I asked her some questions about the menu and she admonished me and again acted like I was an idiot. The menu says 2 x 9$ Which to me means $18, and apparently I was an idiot for bringing that up. "I'm sorry if I'm annoying you" I finally said, strategically, after a full glass of wine. She smiled like an Aunt who had to watch her bastard child. "It's okay." She said. "It's pretty dead in here." I added, passive aggressively admonishing her. Omg it got politely ugly. "Il have another glass of wine please." I deserved that $3.50. At this point you could argue that I deserved a paid trip to the best beach in Columbia. My handsome manly charm obviously wasn't helping me here. I needed a life line. "Again sorry to bother you." I reiterated. Finally I got a second "bite" - chips plaintains. 32 minutes in - I ordered. The pastacones (green plaintains topped with protein.) looked really good but like too much and when I asked if I could mix up the proteins I was firmly told no. The wine was kicking in and I wasn't gonna strangle her and she at least was acting nicer. I tried to think happy thoughts. I was going shopping after for these cute pair of skinny pants at H&M on Lincoln road. They were bright blue. This was like an acid trip. A third bite came - an arepa it was dry, but tasty. I still felt like I needed a hot bath. But I squeezed out some of my Human kindness with all I had and tried to strike up a conversation. I don't think she could really understand English that well, maybe she was just protecting herself. But man did she come off like a bull. Hey I didn't make these special offers. They were dirt cheap I know but didn't you just make a killing over art basel weekend? I mean what's going on ? Are you so hoity because your hot Columbian boyfriend is a stallion in bed? Or because there's trouble in paradise? The food came with an array of sauces representative of different countries. I chose beef and shrimp and got some bread. The shrimp were small but the beef was tender. I started speaking Spanish and that perked her up. And then it turns out she is homesick and doesn't like Miami. "Why?" I asked. "I'm alone." That was it. Girl got "tension". All the sudden her hands felt so soft and her butt looked great. I started acting like a cabillero. This is why I don't date women, or maybe I should. After three glasses of wine the whole drama was ironically satisfying. If Bolivar is nicely decorated, the food is just okay, but better than most South Beach joints. Think of it as a Trendy tapas bar that's a little less perfect than it has to be because it's on South Beach. Great patio Weird service Decent food Ps - I promptly had retail therapy afterward.

Still so so good. We came back to maimi and stayed for a night just to be sure that we got to eat this food again.

*tostones with chicken (omg!!!!! The tostones are amazing!!! So crisp and perfectly salty. The chicken was tender and super flavorful. If I was eating this at home, I would have taken massive bites but I ate it with fork and knife in public haha. Loved this appetizer!!) *chicken empanada (not bad, definitely have had better but the dough itself was good, the chicken was a teeny bit dry, this was lacking punch and should have been more saucy inside to give a nice textural balance) *yuca fries (oh yes! the yuca was powdery and perfectly fried, lightly salted and delicious. hated that dipping sauce that came with it, it tasted like piss) *salmon manuelita (salmon was flaky and had good flavor to it; the tomato sauce on the fish was delicious and compliments the rice very well; the cilantro rice, it was fluffy and herby; the steamed veggies on the side were surprisingly very good haha) *cuatros leches (omg, this cake was so good!! the top carmelized milk was beyond belief! the cake was soaking with milky goodness and not too sweet) This restaurant was great!!! Loved the service and atmosphere is festive. You can learn to salsa dance for $15. If you're not into that, you can just enjoy live music. At the women's bathroom door, you can take a selfie with Sophia Vegara. hahaha!

Bolivar is a great concept... but as usual very poorly executed. If the great "libertador" knew what his name was used for, well... he would have probably not liberated anyone. They have the best and most traditional dishes from the major South american countries... from the Bandeja Paisa (Colombia), the Picanha (Brasil), the Pescado Margarita (Venezuela) to the Lomo Salteado (Peru). The food is very tasty, portion sizes are not big, nor small.. they are ok. The prices are what you would expect for lunch...except that if it turns into dinner while you are having lunch well then you have to pay the more expensive dinner prices... //PAUSE// Yes, that happened. I did not complain, I was so fed up with the garbage service that I just paid and left. Oh, and by the way... my tab included 18% tip. //UN-PAUSE// For those (like me) who have been around SOBE for a long time you will notice that the place looks just like the old Colombian nightclub Macondo... yep, it looks exactly the same and its not a restaurant. They even kept the crappy service. They rarely come to your table, they mix up the plates, they overcharge you and they ignore you. .. and its not like the place was packed, they had more staff members than tables. Yet, all tables were unattended. So this is one of those places where your mileage will vary... if you happen to be lucky enough to be serviced properly you will probably enjoy your meal. Otherwise you will end up like me.. overpaying for a extremely long (because service is crap) lunch that you really could have gotten in any of the many good Venezuelan/Peruvian/Colombian/Brazilian restaurants in the area. PS: Cant understand how this place has so many 5-star reviews, the food is not good enough, the service is crap and the decor is just ok.

On vacation in Miami so focusing mostly on Latin/ South American food here. So Bolivar seemed like a great place to experience authentic food from that region - based on previous reviews. The place did not disappoint. We ended up having a mix of the tapas, a couple of apps and a couple of seafood main courses. I won't got into detail here because based on the overall quality of food here I am sure you can't go wrong in ordering anything off the menu Special mention for the service - we did ask the server to see if they could make our food a bit spicy as we like it that way - boy did they listen and turn the heat up. Loved that they didn't just do lip service to our request and actually delivered perfectly. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone.
(5)Ty K.
Delicious food. Services was great. Only thing weird was the French fries with my steak. I haven't been to South America...but that doesn't seem right.
(5)Ani G.
Delicious food and cocktails. Very friendly staff. Big screens for the football and a live singer. Casual, fun easy go to place. Would go back.
(5)Rob K.
Beautiful servers and vibrant atmosphere. The food was quite good but not amazing. We had a variety of tapas. The steak was great. The Colombian tortillas were too dry. The corn cakes were also a little dry. The corn on the cob was fantastic. The chicharon was a little dry and over cooked. The empanadas were solid but I've had better. All in all a nice little spot but didn't blow my taste buds away. Probably more fun later in the evening when there's music and it's bustling. This review is strictly based on the food.

definitely one of the best sobe dining experiences I've had. I was born and raised in Miami and let's be real, most true miamians steer clear of touristy south beach spots. i live in new york but was home for the week visiting my family. my bf and I decided to do the sobe thing but were trying to avoid places like the heinous clevelander. yelp sent us to bolivar and we couldn't have been happier. a plus? there just happened to be an excellent groupon we used that night. the atmosphere is great. there was a loungey salsa singer who had an excellent voice and the music, though slightly too loud, wasn't overwhelming. the lights were the perfect level of dim and the staff was so incredibly friendly and attentive. the complimentary appetizer was a nice touch. we started with the cachapa. I've had better but that doesn't mean this one wasn't delicious. for our entrees we both ordered fish. my bf got the mahi mahi which, as I had read on yelp, was a little on the dry side. the mango salsa was ok but my food was fantastic. I ordered the whole fried fish and I couldn't have been more stoked that I did. it was perfectly cooked. im not gonna lie: I put away almost the whole thing and had to struggle through dessert but it was worth it. we ordered the quarto leches. i grew up eating quarto leches. this one was better than most I've had in a large restaurant (the hole in the walls places in little Havana always have the best ones duh). I definitely recommend this spot if you wanna do sobe but you don't wanna 'do sobe'. It's not a 'must do' for my future visits but I'm totally glad we went!

Dinner at this place began on a very promising note with one of the servers welcoming us with a complimentary and refreshing glass of white wine. The space was intimate and romantic, and I loved that they have a stage for live Latin music. I got one of the more floral cocktails, and it was a bit on the strong side with a giant, tacky-looking plastic flower for show. Our dinner was good - I didn't care for the arepas appetizer, but they definitely know how to cook their meats! I ordered the traditional Colombian sampler with a mix of grilled meats and it was well seasoned and juicy. The thing that brought this review down by one star was our experience after ordering our meal. After we received our food, our server went AWOL. It took us between 30 - 45 minutes (after we were all done with dinner) just to get our check from someone else other than our server. We tried to grab the attention of our server while she passed by, but she just blatantly ignored us. She either didn't look at us, or even when she did, her mind was obviously somewhere else since she did not notice our requests for the check. There were also a few times when she was just chatting with another server by the bar. I will admit that the food was tasty and we did enjoy our meal, but I would probably look somewhere else for more attentive service.

The eche chiviche and the empanadas are good. The lomo saltado and pollo saltado were sad. It was a weird mix of fries, meat, and tomatoes with rice. The lomo was barely cooked, smelled like a farm, and was difficult to chew. The person in my party who got the pescado margarita (which was a red snapper that day) liked it, however i didn't care for the dressing. The pabellon sifrino was pretty good. The fries were barely seasoned. Being that I'm Indian, I wasn't impressed with the yucca fries. The service is good. The setting isn't that great; the chairs and tables were rickety.
(3)German B.
I'm Venezualan, so I'll try to be as gentle as possible. As a restaurant, that wants to integrate the venezuelan, colombians and peruvian food culture in Miami, they have a lot of work to do. Starting from the atmosphere, it feels like a night club that was taken over, put some chairs and called it a restaurant. The food was good, but I was expecting way more, speciallly for the price, that by the way, by the time we got our check, didn't match with the menu and not by cents, I'm talking about $3-$5, so we felt cheated. Also, they have a stage with some instruments (i guess they have a show at some point of the day) and this kids from the next table were banging at the drums and congas during out whole meal... i was about to stand up yelling in desperation but luckly, I kept my composure. But the thing that anoyed me the most... The service. This guy that didn't speak english, nor spanish, trying to comunicate with us in those two languages... I needed translation every time he talked... i asked for water, i shouldnt have... Really disaponted... Inhad my hopes in here, but they are far from "i'll be back"
(2)Loly B.
Nice sangria, food nothing especial, and I really was excited about it cos being bolivar the conqueror of so many countries like Venezuela and Colombia I don't know what it made me think that their food will be good and honored the diversity of such countries.i will not come back.
(2)Kaelig D.
Fantastic service on NYE from our waitress who knew the way to properly serve wine (rare enough to be noted in the US) and food (other waiters sometimes dropped in to "help", and instead of going around the table just crossed it with their arm to pick up dishes or water). The beef was really good and the delicious Argentinian Malbec Reserva wine was fairly priced. Will recommend this place to my friends when they come to Miami!
(5)Sabrina C.
I only went there for Ceviche and it was pretty good. The place was beautifully decorated with paintings from local artists. I had the variety ceviche with the 6 shot glasses. It was beautifully placed and presented. The seafood was fresh and delicious. I would have to go back to see how the rest of the food is. But beware in the bathroom.. it went completely dark on me because they had light-sensors...
(3)Kevin R.
Good sangria? Yes! Good food? Yes, yes!! We tried a sampler of sorts that had about 8 different items and each one was better than the next. Waitstaff was helpful in choosing the best food and was also very friendly and patient.
(5)Michael S.
Here is South American fusion with a great taste! We had a groupon and it went real well! I had the Salmon, my GF had the Churrasco and the app was a shrimp with a salsa pink sauce with all types of other sauces. The desert was the only let down - a cake with little taste and an odd tasting it's cream. Other than that a great experience, with awesome service (thanks Caesar!) and a great ambiance. I recommend all the way!
(4)Gonzalo A.
OMG if u on vacation in south beach u have to trie this amazing restaurant Service is very helpful I'll recommend the 6 shots of ceviche, mariscos al ajillo and the bandeja paisa. Believe me is just the best food in the area and prices are very good Thank you guys u did a awesome job
(5)Carolina O.
Went here on Friday night to celebrate a friends Surprise Birthday party they were able to accommodate out party of 16 which was awesome! The place has a very party upbeat atmosphere u wanna dance and party as soon as you walk in. They have music and a singer the entire time. It's a loud place but very fun. The decor and staff were all very nice, professional and on point. However they need more than 1 bartender and maybe to add more cooks. The drinks and food took very long to get to our table. I had the traditional ceviche which was okay nothing to brag about. Half of our party loved the food and the other half was not impressed so food wise it's a hit or miss. Everything was great and they make a huge deal when singing the birthday girl a song. They have props and bring out champagne. It was a great time lots of dancing, fun and celebrating. For sure a great place for celebrating anything. It would get 5 stars if their kitchen and bar were faster. Besides that it's a lot of fun and I would for sure go back for other celebrations!
(4)Anastasia C.
We were a group of seven and split their platter option of hispanic tapas (Specifically those of Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru). It wasn't super pricy given the location and quality of the meal, and overall we were all very happy with how the choice in restaurant came out. Would definitely come again if with a large group. Plus it was my birthday and their celebration was super sweet where the singer sang, they played music, lit a disco ball and all the waiters came and sang and passed around vaquero hats for us. Super great!
(4)Kellie s.
Oh my! Delicious. I love when good good, beautiful cultures and a fabulous chef come together. Thank you.
(5)Doris H.
What a great dining experience! The food was superb and authentic, from the ceviche from Peru to the bandeja paisa from Colombia. The decor and music are just perfect, and the staff was very nice, attentive and efficient. And did I mention that it is reasonably priced? SoBe visitors who want to have a wonderful Latin dinner should not miss this jewel. Other more well-known SoBe restaurants that boast they offer Cuban or Latin food don't do as much justice to the wonderful cuisines they purportedly showcase, and charge an arm and a leg.

This was a great place for South American food. We stopped by yesterday for a quick bite before heading backt to the airport (last meal on our Miami vacation) We had the Seafood Ceviche and Mussels (appetizer) and both were DELICIOUS. The ceviche was fresh, tangy, and with a slight hint of sweet. The mussels...oh my goodness...simply one of the best I've had. SO fresh, very well seasoned, and great display. Wish we found this place earlier so we could have tried the other items on the menu. We also went earlier in the evening so there weren't a lot of customers there (great service!) but it seems like a bustling place at night. Pretty cool venue I would imagine once the lights go down. Will be back next time we're in Miami!

luv the food!!! excellent customer service

my husband and i were visiting miami from new york and happened to see a flyer for this restaurant in our hotel. the menu looked delicious and being a Venezolana living in NYC.. i am immediately drawn to try out places that serve venezuelan food (since there arent many here in NYC)! We were SO happy we went! the food was delicious. I had the churrasco and my husband a salmon dish. although we did not choose one of the venezuelan dishes we were really pleased with our choices. The ambiance and the food presentation perfect and the food was so good! We were really pleased with the wonderful service from the waiter. I think his name was Alfonso.. hmm not sure. He was so great that we thought he was the actual owner of the place. we hope he reads this because we wanted to thank him again for his wonderful service and awesome recommendation for dancing after dinner! we had a great time @ Nikki! Only thing that I feel wasn't so great was the drink I ordered.. Bolivartini.. tasted good but just didn't seem like there was any alcohol in it! Other than that a great experience and hope they continue to do well! LOVE the concept!
(5)Jane S.
I though the restaurant was super cool inside. The service was great! They were attentive and friendly the whole time. I had the lunch special...seafood in a cream sauce with rice and fried green plantains. I wish I could've finished it. So dang good! But portions were big so could eat it all. My hubby had the black beans with meat and rice. Super yummy! Probably why I couldn't finish mine because I kept eating his! Highly recommend this place

How much are these people paying per review??? This is an embarrassment to Hispanic food. Let's start...... I ordered a mix ceviche (fish and shrimp)... I got cooked shrimp cocktail from Publix with a lime and mango sauce, no fish. The texture of the shrimp was of beef jerky and the taste was of.... Well... Shrimp cocktail from Publix. I paid $18 dollars for that crap they called ceviche. We also ordered calamari. It had the texture of a big thick rubber band and no taste what so ever. I paid $15 dollars... Main course... lomo salteado. It was ok... Not 5 star and definitely not $18 worth. Service - well because South Beach restaurants automatically charge you 18% tip, the waiters don't give a rats ass about service. Our waitress was impatient, made faces expressing discontent, and was slow, it was like watching paint dry... You would think that having a restaurant steps away from the beach, the least they could do is have fresh seafood. Wrong! What a disgrace and an embarrassment to anything from South America. If you are from Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Argentina and you go here you'll be very disappointed. I feel like I just got robbed my hard earn money. Never again.

2 stars for the food only. Good menu, good drinks but service is extremely slow. We made reservation on Sunday evening 8.15 pm for party of six. We arrived 10 min earlier, attendant was curteous and sat us on bar. Table was ready in time. We placed an order by 8.30 pm. Received drinks and appetizers in half and hour. Then waited another one and half hour (total 2 hours) and we still haven't received our food. I am not sure how long it is going to be. Hopefully today!!!
(2)Lionel F.
Wow! Amazing food and Service. Definitely recommended. Ask for patacones of beef. Be sure not to miss them. We will be back.
(5)Ana M.
I was in Miami with friends for my birthday and on the last day we decided to come here. It was the best decision we had made cause Bolivar was amazing. Despite not having a resevation we were seated immediately and our waitress was very attentive. She even got us appetizers on the house! I was in love with the environment and their was live music. Everything on the menu was amazing, sadly I don't remember the name of the dishes we ordered. For desert we had the four leches cake which was so light and perfect. Definitely coming back here next time I'm in Miami.
(5)Cristina G.
We have been taking advantage of restaurant.com and got a voucher for this place. I was a little hesitant because I don't like going to Miami Beach, but I am so glad we did. SERVICE- our waiter was great. Very attentive. FOOD- we got the empanadas (so damn good) and the bandeja paisa. Amazingly good. There wasn't one single item I didn't like. The sauces that came with the empanadas were awesome and spicy. I want more. We ordered water and our cups are particles in them. My sis assured me it was residue from the old pipes. They brought us new waters with less particles and I dealt with it like a big girl. It wasn't a big deal. AMBIANCE- loved the place. Very cozy. Would love to go when they have entertainment. We had to pay for parking because it was Miami Beach and I hate having to do this just to have a meal, but I would definitely go back.
(4)Melina M.
This restaurant is delicious, awesome drinks, vibe, and most importantly the food was amazing! I had the Mojarra Frita which is a whole fish fried to a tender crispness accompanied by coconut rice and patacones, with crispy fried plantains. The sangria was smooth but a total trouble maker with a punch! And the dessert a moist tres leches finished the meal with a bang. Considering south beach prices this place comes on top, you really get your money's worth! Please visit, I highly recommended!! One more thing, the service was excellent, another plus since waiters in South Beach are not the best.
(5)Michelle H.
The food was disappointing. I went to this place based on Yelp reviews and ordered the dishes that people recommended. The best part was the sangria, which is hard to mess up.
(2)Dawen H.
This place is amazing. My first time in Miami and eating here really made my night. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. The tapas platter is highly recommended as well as the Shrimp appetizer
(5)Becky R.
Pro's: - Great steak - AMAZING ceviche - Really good Sangria - Reasonably priced Con's: - Service seemed a little off. They brought all of our food out at the same time, and had no idea where to put it all. They literally piled plates on top of each other and looked at us for what to do. It would have been nice to have appetizers first, followed by entres. - SUPER loud. They had a lady singing on Friday night that made it so loud that it was impossible to hear each other speak. Maybe it was just a Friday night thing.
(3)Andres A.
Excellent food and services. We ordered a pitcher of sangria and the 7 small taps for $29. One of the best meals I've had during my vacation! Will try and stop by before I head back to Cali!!! Everyone should stop by and have a glass of sangria :)
(5)Nicole N.
Amazing food!!! They have a variety of cuisines and everything tastes amazing. Their food is super fresh. I can honestly say Miami doesn't have great food so this place is a gem!!!
(5)Ryan A.
Wonderful choice! Full of culture and a great place to go for a new experience. The only downside is that happy hour is ONLY available if you sit at the bar. We ended up sitting next to the marketing director and he was very helpful and nice. He even gave us some of his appetizer! We definitely recommend it!
(4)Yeny R.
I have been here many times and always a happy costumer. But this time I felt I had to write so I can share how South America eats... the diversity of food in their menu is amazin and the presentation on each plate is very clean, their drinks are creative and serve in a very particular way and their house wine is very good at a afortable price. If you are one of those tourists tired of getting rip of in South Beach this is your destination to go as the food has great quality and the price is right for what you are eating. I recomend the Shrimp Soup or the "chunchullo con papa criolla" , and I know they will bring this to your table but their Hot Sauces tray is just Yummy. .. will post pictures on my next visit ; )
(5)Isaac G.
Excellent! The food, ambiance and service were outstanding. The only thing I was not impressed were the chicken and beef empanadas, but the cheese one was really good. The Cifirino dish I had was magnificent!... beef, rice, beans and maduros were juicy and tasty. A woman was performing live, really good performance. Music is a bit loud, but acceptable... maybe not recommended if you are on a date.
(5)Julien L.
Worst tapas place I have tried. This restaurant delivers fried stuff like McDonald's. Sorry for the bad review but seriously eat home and avoid this place. Do not forget what I just wrote. Avoid this place.
(2)Nadia M.
Came here for lunch with a friend and at first glance, I loved the decor . We had a few cocktails and enjoyed a couple glasses of wine that was on happy hour . The food was good . I must say we were disappointed by the cheese platter . However everything else was delicious .
(4)Joey P.
The food was excellent! Great ambiance inside too and there was some outdoor seating. I had the patacones with garlic shrimp and a salad with lots of fresh veggies and some fruit. Definitely worth checking out for a lunch special.
(4)Kristiel O.
My favorite restaurant in south Beach. This place serves dishes from various countries including Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela. I had the Lomo Saltado (stir fried steak, grilled onions, tomatoes, served with rice and fries). This is a typical Peruvian dish. It was tasty amd perfectly cooked. The portions are also big. As per the sevice, our waitress was attentive and nice. She brought our food out quickly.
(4)Benjamin J.
I really don't need to add anything to the already glowing reviews. Fantastic food cool atmosphere, will definitely be coming again next time I'm in Miami.
(5)Alison J.
On a long weekend vacation with my friend, we were determined to try Cuban cuisine. The atmosphere was great; we went on a Friday night and they had live music. We got a bottle of wine, appetizer, and two entrées to share. It was all delicious!! Servings were large and we couldn't finish. Highly recommend.
(5)Paulina M.
Delicious food!! Good service, Clean, good ambiance and live music sometimes. I will definitely go back to this place. We ordered the mussels appetizer, churrasco, the seafood special, and the creme brulee. Everything was delicious. full of flavor without being over condiment. the creme brulee with pasion fruit wasnt my favorite but oh well evrything else was. I will definately go back.
(5)Lauren R.
Went to this place for a business dinner after a conference were sat and had our order in at 937pm and at 1120 I asked for the check because from a random employee because we had not seen our server and still had no tapas. Now mind you tapas does NOT have to come out at the same time...The drinks were very good and so was our appetizer. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place two stars is because the GM came out and spoke to my group personally and was sincerely sorry and explained fully what was going on with their relocation and being short staffed (even though they were NOT busy). That personal touch and pleading with us to stay for 5-15 more minutes to get the food, not to mention charging us NOTHING for several drinks and appetizers in my opinion is worth 2-3 stars. I would go back to let them redeem themselves in the future after they relocate.
(2)Kim D.
Love this sexy, special spot; great atmosphere, service and food ... Latin favors with an emphasis on Peruvian and Colombian flavors, you cannot miss here. We ordered four tapas items ( shrimp, mussels, pork belly and artichokes) all superb with four side sauces; plus steak with salad & yuca fries, tres leches cake and dessert wine all for an incredible $108 for two. Amazing food and setting
(5)Che K.
Service-5 stars Waitress and GM were super friendly. GM is so passionate and make us feel like home. His boss is so lucky to have him. EXCEPT the receptionist is the only one who is not friendly and we wanted to sit inside and she said inside is only for reservation for that night which was not true. GM were able to sit us inside. She is just not willing to help! Food-4 stars The mix seafood dish is very good. Their signature drink is very strong Their dessert menu is super cute
(4)Nek C.
Great food & service !!! Best ceviche I've ever had
(5)Diana K.
Great food, great drinks, and the corn cakes are gluten free - what more do I want? The menu is an eclectic collection of dishes from all over South America with a great selection of tapas. Very affordable prices. Definitely coming back.
(5)Heather O.
Decided to come here for lunch based on all the great yelp reviews. So glad we did because I loved this place. Sangria special for $2.99 a glass and it did not disappoint, ill take 3 please :) We got the ceviche shot app sampler and the mango mahi mahi. Both were perfect. If I ever find myself in Miami again this place will be a must.
(5)Mauricio H.
Food was great. Be sure to order an extra side of tostones of you order the ceviche. The hot sauces compliment the seafood extraordinarily well.
(4)Alexis S.
Live Band. Food was outstanding. Full of flavor. Service was superior & extremely attentive. I am a Latina & have never had such amazing Latin food. We will be back 100%. Completely taken back.
(5)Jeanine S.
Great little place in South Beach. Very eclectic environment and prompt service. We ordered apps, tapas, and an entree. My favorite round was the appetizers. The patacones with shrimp were amazing! The Ceviche shots are also a must try!! Boliviar provides friendly service and large portions for reasonable prices!
(5)Monica S.
Excellent!!! I had a birthday party with 25 guest and Bolivar made it one of the best nights of my life. The food was fantastic, the staff was extremely attentive, and the live music was great. I am so impressed by this restaurant! If you are wanting to plan a party and you want to wow your guests call Bolivar. You will not be disappointed.
(5)Moxie N.
The food is so delish and the mojitos are on point! And the staff were very nice and attentive. Gave us a few samples of Columbian samples.
(5)Christina M.
Quite good. They brought out a free appetizer that was absolutely delicious. Fresh fruit juices were an exciting option. Had the salmon that was just a tiny bit rubbery.. Maybe over cooked 10 seconds or so. Outdoor seating was pleasant. I'd return.
(4)Beatriz R.
Great service, food was delicious. I had the churrasco and my bf has the seadoof platter. Both were excellent!! Perfect place to check out while on Miami Beach.
(5)Jason T.
We had a very nice meal here. We had the shrimp and corn tapas, the ceviche, and the freshly made mango juice. All of it was good! Definitely better than most places in the area.
(5)Berat U.
Wow, I have been on the road for 3 months and this place had the best food I have ever had this year. "Pabellon Sifrino" on the main course is fantastic. I will come back here every time I am in Miami.
(5)Sandra F.
Ohhhh my god. AMAZING. I had the garlic shrimp and crispy plantains tapas... I don't normally eat shrimp but I thought I would give it a try here. So flavorful and perfect texture. My boyfriend had a beef dish with rice beans and sweet plantains... Licked the plate. Sangria was so so good and such a great selection of foreign beers.. Even had a Haitian beer which my boyfriend loved. The service was also great. Our server was so sweet, quick and tended to our ever need with no hesitation. This will definitely be one of my regular places when I am in Miami. Try it you will not regret it!!!
(5)Jennifer W.
Awesome food! Very nice service and lovely live music. We went late on a Sunday evening so it was quiet but I'm sure on Friday and Saturday it has a more lively vibe. We enjoyed our evening!
(4)Ben L.
Great tapas and fantastic mojitos, but just a bit pricey for three appetizers and four drinks.
(4)Brian M.
A Groupon got us in Bolivar. The delicious food and very hospitable staff will bring us back. We have lived on the Beach for 5 years but we usually stay away from restaurants on Ocean and Washington as that is where the tourist traps are. Bolivar is very different! I don't think I've been in a place where the waitress and hostess were as welcoming and as helpful with the menu than the two ladies who took care of us to night. The Colombian waitress explained most of the dishes and she recommended everything we ordered. She was spot on each dish. Everything was delicious. We will be back and we will bring friends.
(5)J L.
I gave this place two stars based on what we ordered. One thing for sure was that the service was really good. Mabye it was just the food we ordered. I have to say I was a little disappointed given the place got 4.5 stars on average. We had the ceviche bolivar and I wasn't used to have the shrimp come out as whole pieces. I am just used to ceviche were the seafood is cut in smaller pieces for you. We had the empanadas also which was ok, the batter seemed to be corn based which was just different, not bad but different. We also ordered the churrasco steak which was just ok. I would try it again and maybe order something else.

Wow, wow, wow! Best Peruvian joint I've ever been too! (Which I already prefer to Mexican and Cuban). You cannot go wrong.

Came here last night for dinner, oh baby it was tasty. Cute decor, nice decorations, and amazing, amazing fresh food. We loved... um everything. Bottles of wine for $20-$40 Killer beer selection Tvs at the bar playing soccer. Very colombian feeling. We did the 7 Tapas: $29 (3 of us) Empanadas --so tasty, not sure what type of meat was here Chicken wings --tiny, good flavor, but a bit dry Skirt Steak --Awesome!!! So tender, great flavor Garlic Shrimp --Tiny shrimp, but packed with flavor Sweet Plantains --great flavor, dessert! Fried Artichokes- these were bomb.com Spicy Grilled Corn Cob--My favorite, great flavor Andina Verde Salad --huge salad, good dressing Will def come back to try more beer and ceviche

Great hidden spot in sobe! Love love the vibe, atmosphere! Food is delicious and bartender Luisa is the best making killer caipirinhas!! (Premium brand :-)
(5)David K.
Banjela paisa is the Colombian national dish and it's THE MUST GET dish here. It is a nice generous portion and IMHO the service is one of the best in SoBe regardless of whether you speak Spanish. Food is tasty and tender!
(5)L S.
The pork belly was flavorless and lacking imagination. The Parceviche was rubbery and not as fresh as expected... Empanadas, good but run of the mill. The sauces make the empanadas. The garlic shrimp were actually nice despite their diminutive size. Live entertainment was a woman who sang Latin music with an iPod backup. Honestly, she was the best part of this restaurant. Sang and danced her Latina bottom off and earned every tip for that wait staff. The singer would certainly get four stars from us but the establishment could really only muster two. Disappointment stays with us.

Maybe my experience here is an outlier, because I find it hard to believe that folks have rated this place so highly. My friend and I, tired of the craziness on Ocean Drive, decided to check out this spot after reading the rave reviews on Yelp. We were greeted quite warmly by the hostess as well as the manager (owner?) and were seated at a table of our choice outside. Our waitress was friendly enough, but seemed a bit of a novice when it came to waiting tables. I initially ordered a rum on the rocks, only to be told that I could only get my rum in a mojito - say whaaaat? I just gave up and said I'll have a beer. I went through their beer list and selected beer after beer, only to be told "we don't have that.. or that .. or that.. or that". Eventually we finally found a beer they had.. I believe it was a Venezuelan beer.. It was ok. We also asked for a glass of water, which did not arrive till the third time we asked for it. I ordered the Mahi Mahi dish and I was really really REALLY disappointed. The mango relish(?) on the fish was very tasty. The fish itself, though was ridiculously tough. It felt like I was cutting steak! Maybe they didn't defrost it correctly? I didn't know what was happening! My friend ordered the pork belly dish and he felt it was "meh".. and deep fried :-) Overall, the impression I got was that the waitress was new, as a result affecting the standard quality of service. I hope that they just had an off day with the food they served us. Not sure if I will be back, but if you spend a lot of time in Miami, check it out and see for yourself!

My BF and I selected this place for dinner based on the good reviews. Some of the things we ordered were hit or miss. We had some tapas: empanadas, garlic shrimp, grilled corn cob, and crispy green plantains. The empanadas were okay, but the shrimp and corn were good. The green plantains though were not my favorite. We meant to order the sweet plantains, but the green plantains were really hard and sort of inedible. We also ordered the Colombian platter, which was actually pretty good. We really enjoyed the grilled steak and the caramelized plantains. Really delicious.
(4)Natalia S.
Absolutely delicious. The service is great, the ambiance is even better, and the food is the best. Definitely would come back.
(5)Sandy M.
For the food, it should rank '5 Star' as the food was so full of flavor while tasting healthy!! Our table enjoyed Mussels, grilled Corn, and 2 different Steak entrees. The flavors were absolutely amazing!! Overall, the table can only give it a 3.5 as the problem was with the service. Despite the kitchen having challenges with their grill, and the staff not speaking much of any English, the Manager very graciously offered complimentary drinks. These issues may be due to the New Year week. With all that said, we would give them another try!
(3)Bora P.
Food was good and the service was friendly. My wife wanted to add a grilled salmon to a salad on the menu and ended up getting a grilled salmon platter. The mistake was corrected by the manager by adding a side salad and dessert on the house. Would come back if we are in SoBe again.
(4)Gerardo L.
I absolutely love this place!!! They have authentic South American dishes from all countries. I love the bandeja paisa and the empanadas are amazing as well. Drinks are made right and very tasty. The service is also amazing, the servers are extremely friendly and answer any questions you may have. The decor is also cool and modern. Not too pricey all all for the perfectly cooked food and great service. I love taking my family, they are Venezuelan and Colombian and they also love the food! Best place on the beach :)
(5)Sarah S.
Went here last night for a friend's birthday and was pleasantly surprised. I had the empanadas, patacones de carne and lomo. Amazing flavor! Great crowd and entertainment. I felt they were a little understaffed but it was expected at the beach. Great spot!
(4)Bhavika P.
Amazing food and right quantity for one person. House wine and beer was really good for the price. Mazorca aka corn on the cob - really nice cheesy and spicy. Empanada- tried chicken and cheese really well cooked. The hottest sauce served with it was awesome. Chicken entree - can't remember the name but served with rice hot sauce onions and tomatoes tasted really good. Really nice staff. Pleasant ambience.
(5)Brice C.
Very nice... Just walked by... All tables on sidewalk were full. So my wife & I decided to stop for lunch. We were not let down. I started with the shrimp & corn chowder it was creamy with a hint of spice. Very tasty For my lunch I had the pan seared salmon manuelita it was topped with a creole sauce served with grilled vegetables My wife enjoy a couple of appetizers as her meal. Crab cake had a side choices of sauces which we ended trying on all our food. It was very fresh and good. Also she really enjoyed the patacones with the shredded chicken on top. It was amazing. Service was attentive and efficient. Overall a great place for lunch for sure... We will be back soon to try their dinner items.
(5)Elnaz A.
We were very satisfied with the appetizers and main courses. Very good staff and service.
(5)Gil H.
Excellent food and service! One of the best ceviche I've ever had. The Churrasco steak just melts in your mouth, the sangria was great! Definitely one of my favorite places in Sobe :-)
(5)Ted H.
We are not from this area of South Florida and we wanted to have dinner before a show in Miami. We picked this restaurant because of the positive reviews on Yelp and we were seeing Jackson Browne at the Fillmore after dinner. Our group of six all like Peruvian and South American dishes so this restaurant seemed like the bomb. We arrived a bit late because of traffic and mentioned the show to our waitress. She was so accommodating, Our food was brought out quickly, The food was delicious! Great presentation! I will definately be coming back.
(5)Nicole A.
Empanadas, empanadas, empanadas! Delicious! Had the pollo saltado, them empanadas as an appetizer and bolivartini. Everything was great! Love the live music and whole vibe of the restaurant. Definitely recommend it!
(4)A P.
Good bar drinks and service. Passion fruit creme brûlée was a little runny but tasty. Good live entertainment Sat night! Reasonably priced.
(4)Jenny H.
Everything about Bolivar was amazing. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was lively. We ordered just about everything off of the tapas list and loved it all. The crunchy plantain cakes topped with pulled beef is a must! I'll be dreaming about them until I am back in Miami. Do yourself a favor and get away from Ocean Drive and eat at Bolivar - you won't regret it.
(5)Klara S.
As I said I would, I went back; this time with my parents in tow. A repeat of all the great things, and none of the not so great things. Except the wine list remains fairly small - which is surprising given the really fantastic and large variety of wines from South America). But the available wines are good. My parents both loved their meals - a churrasco and the bandeja paisa. We also shared a variety of the appetizers, which were all really great. As the restaurant was understaffed the previous time, I did not really get a chance to see how the normal service was. This time I did, and it is really great - our waitress was very attentive and patient. Go a little earlier (7pm) if you want a quieter atmosphere, or later if you want to hear the live singer.
(5)J H.
An absolute must! The food, drinks and service were perfect (this coming from a group of 4 finicky eaters). Caesar served us and made us feel like we were the only guests there. Will stop by each time I'm in Miami.
(5)Kimberly M.
The only reason why I gave this 3 stars instead of 4 was because the service was all over the place. I probably wound up interacting with the entire wait, bus, and management staff because of how many different servers I had come to my table and repeat some of the same greetings/services that were already given. But overall, if your in the area and looking for some good food that offers a variety of hispanic influences...follow the locals to this spot.
(3)Juan G.
All I can say is yum! Ordered so many empanadas and cheese sticks, steak, yuca, potatoes, and sangria. Finished with a 4 leches. 2 hours later was very happy. Great service and attentive staff. Use the green hot sauce on everything.
(5)Natalia G.
After wondering in the busy street of South Beach where everything looked literally the same I was excited when I found this place through yelp the reviews were amazing & honestly these pictures here made me want to eat my phone so we wandered & found Bolivar the people greeting us seemed genuinely nice ! as we waited we got some arepitas that had ahogado on them ( the sauce on top of them) I really felt back in Colombia & this was only the appetizer, the servers were so well informed & made some great recommendations depending on our feedback I got the Churrasco & my bf got the and andino chicken I think whatever he got was out of this world! Accompanied by arroz con coco (coconut rice) which my mom has told me is super hard to make but it tasted just like the one from the coast in Colombia. We also had tostones with shrimp they were amazing saucy enough to blend well with the crunchy Tostones and we were in dipping land! They had about 5 sauces & they told us how each of them would be & they were all amazing we finished with the Lulo creme brûlée & took a passion fruit one home! Yes That's how good it was. Great service , great selection of food! Go eat here !!!
(5)Liza K.
Some of the food was good, some was middling-to-bad, and the service was very nice... but they were bumbling. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks and 70 minutes for our dinner. (Although they delivered someone else's food to our table much earlier.) Our ceviche came on time and was lovely. Good effort! But poor execution.
(2)A C.
Limos Saltado has that perfect flavor with fries saturated in marinade. Mazorza is amazing!
(4)Tavit D.
Myself and 2 guests waited an hour and 15 minutes for our entrees at dinner time 2 weeks ago. I would've given 1 star but the food was good. Servers should be more attentive to their tables. I had to get up 45 minutes into waiting and ask where our food was.
(2)Brianna W.
There were 4 of us dining here and the food choices looked authentic. The service was slow even though there were not a lot of people in the restaurant. We were there for a 6:30-7pm dinner and I would have expected better service. She served with a smile but VERY slow to make anything happen. My dinner was on the healthier side, fish with a native Peruvian sauce, rice with quoina mixed in, and pan fried plantains. It was delicious. The atmosphere was nice but would have been much better with the advertised live music.
(4)Shelly H.
It was ok. Thought we'd check it out based on other reviews but it was nothing extraordinary.
(3)Devin V.
The food was okay. The empanadas were cold, but the steak was good. The machine soda was $4.00- that is too expensive if it was original it would be okay. They have to charge a little bit more main courses and make the dish more representable so they could represent the Bolivian cuisine better.
(3)Cat A.
If I were to go back to Miami, (which, who wouldn't want to?) South Beach would be my first destination. But it wouldn't be the beach, a club, or a bar that I'd be hitting up first, but rather it would be this hot little food haven! When I Yelp'd a place to grab some much desired Latin food, I found BolÃvar with the great reviews, enticing pictures, and the added bonus of a Yelp deal being offered, so we gave it a go. Thank goodness we did cause this place turned out to be an absolute gem! They serve numerous types of Latin dishes that's broken down on the menu. We first ordered the empanadas as an app. I was told the empanada was alright. I was more into the sangria that quickly took care of my thirst! It was huge and delish! After that, it was onto the real deal and that was to try and decide what to order. At first it was a little overwhelming but I had a big appetite and wanted to go full on. Hey, I was on vacation and that's a somewhat justifiable excuse, right? ;) Well, I decided on a Colombian classic, the bandeja paisa. That was incredible! I mean just as perfect and complete as it comes. Seasoned steak, blood sausage (no, it didn't come out rare or bleeding...just what it's called), chicaronnes, a not so run of the mill side of beans that I normally wouldn't eat, plantains, fresh slice of avocado and fried egg on top of a unusually light and flavorful portion of rice. Oh my God! It was the most simple yet extraordinary dish. Possibly the most memorable of my trip but definitely the most satisfying. Now the place is uber cool and swanky with very sweet and helpful servers. A nice little place to hang out too, as there's stools by the bar. Yet, don't miss out on the grub. It may look all modern and chic but the food can stand above some of the local mom and pops restaurants.
(5)Lina R.
Great food, drinks and service. Look forward to coming back next time we are in town.
(5)Jiwon L.
GOD Such a beautiful food !!! I completely fell in love with Latin American food from this restaurant !!!! Great service and great choice with great people. Satisfied dinner I'll be coming back !
(5)Matt B.
Food was very good and service was polite and attentive. Started with mazorca, followed by "echelon" ceviche, then split the Mahi Mahi. Never had S American cuisine before so we were blown away by its tastiness. The combo of fish and citrus fruit was excellent.
(5)Jian L.
Super! Nice and friendly service.
(5)Tim A.
Great ambience. The tapas are wonderful amazing sangria and the desert to die for Visiting Miami on a business trip a local friend suggested we try out this place. Thanks for the recommendation john. Reasonable Prices especially if you are up for trying the tapas
(5)Tianyi H.
excellent experience! Very nice environment. Friends and I all love the signature sampler plates. We ordered fried calamari, steak strips, pork belly, shrimp, corns and chicken wings. Each dish is good especially the steak so we ordered an extra regular plate. they provide four type of sources with spicy level min to Max. Especially love the least and the most spicy ones. soup is good, just a little too salty, and better with breads like baguette. Overall it's really good and will recommend friends to come the next time!
(5)Elizabeth R.
We went there for lunch. We got mojitos with sugarcane and they were amazing. The food was pretty slow in coming out even though there weren't many people there. Once it came out, it was excellent. We got the spicy cerviche sampler which was delicious. I also got the fried fish which was also delicious. I had crispy green plantains for the first time, they were okay but a little tasteless. I put sauce on them but anything fried is good!
(4)Nathalie A.
We were told when we placed the order that it would take 45 minutes. Ok there were 8 of us so we thought some cocktails would help pass the time. One hour and 15 minutes later, still no food, just s verbal 'a few more minutes' the couple of times we inquired! This was s Tuesday night. My husband went to the restaurant next door to check it out in case the 'few minutes' became more than a few minutes! I started to wonder if this was a mistake. And it was! I would give a half star if this was a Yelp option as the drinks were timely. To be avoided if you want good service and food to be served within reason! The two people at the table next to us were still waiting and they came in before us!
(1)Tericka M.
Let me start by saying the food here is great. There were three of us and all of us had different dishes that were delicious. I gave this place 3 stars due to the customer service. We were seated promptly but it took over 30 mins for our food to come. There were people who came in after us and we're served and left before us. We asked for the check as we were gonna pay for the appetiZers and leave but our server insisted the food was coming and after another 15 minutes our food finally came. After we expressed our discontent with the service there was attempts to improve the service. Good food but not the best service.
(3)Dave F.
Best meal we had in Miami. Ceviche shots were excellent. Did 7 tapas and skirt steak for 4 of us. Everything was delicious. Tres Leche cake was awesome! Highly recommend
(5)J R.
Overview: Just come here if you like South American food, they have good food. Picky Details: Prices are reasonable for the main dishes except for the appetizers like every other place. From what I ate the day I went. Good: Bandeja Paisa So-so: Empanadas were too thin and flat for me, they need some big plumpy ones that are filled and about to explode. However they were tasty and delicious, just need more papa & meat!! Tostones you don't get enough for what you pay. Sangria looked off the chain but didn't taste anything special. If I go back I would just order the bandeja paisa no apetizers because that filled me up for the whole day.
(5)Veronica S.
Everything was amazing! The free arepas appetizer was so good and then the colombian empanadas!!! The staff were friendly and everything we ordered came out to perfection. The atmosphere was very artsy and beautiful. I loved the creativity of the drink menu being in a wine bottle, the cigar box for the desserts menu and the stage where there was a live singer. I recommend this place to anyone staying in Miami looking for great drinks and amazing authentic South American food.
(5)Jennifer U.
I really like this place. I haven't ordered everything on the menu yet, but what I've tasted has been mostly good. The tostones topped with chicken is hands down the most delicious plate they serve. My sister and I have gone back JUST to eat those and have taken our parents to eat them too. The empanadas are delicious. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa once, and while the steak was delicious, the portion of steak was a little small and the chicharron barely had any meat on it and was cold. No problem, just bring me more tostones! The manager is fantastic, and so it the rest of the wait staff. Really sweet people. This place is worth a visit. Plus, they have a full bar...
(4)Elizabeth J.
The empanadas and arepa appetizer were so delicious! The 4 different sauces they came with were great too. The snapper entree was very good but my favorites were the appetizers. The capirhina drink, served with sugar cane, was perfect.
(5)William T.
What a gem of a place! Incredibly friendly staff who were attentive and advised us about the wide selection of dishes. Yummy tapas including churasco and artichoke hearts lightly fried with parmesan. Ceviche was excellent! Fun wine list and sangrias. Live music on Saturdays.
(5)Jason G.
Decent but definitely not 4.5 stars. I'd say a solid 3 star. Based on the ratings I was expecting a wow of a dinner but just wasn't there. Arepa not great and civiche shots were just ok. All 4 of us felt the same.
(3)Me s.
Why is this place so highly reviewed? The arugula was yellow and all three of us thought something seemed off about our fish dishes. Flavors weren't bad, but not great, and felt kind of icky after.
(2)Anu M.
One of my friends who recently visited Miami Beach dined at Bolivar during her trip and highly recommended this restaurant. So when I traveled to Miami Beach, my husband and I decided to come here for dinner on a Friday night. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and we chose the indoor seating area. I loved the decor; very bright and colorful. Here is what we ordered for dinner: Appetizers: Patacones (5 stars) Entree 1: Pabellon Sifrino (4 stars) Entree 2: Mojarra Cartagena (4 stars) Dessert: Nata (5 stars) Great food. Friendly service. I highly recommend Bolivar. Tip: There is a Groupon deal going on for this restaurant. You will be better off without the deal. With the deal, they automatically add a gratuity of 18% (even for 2 people), so you actually end up spending more with the Groupon deal.
(4)Ashwini B.
Went for dinner and the atmosphere and location were great. The service was a bit slow. But the food was flavorful! Probably one of the best restaurants you could stop by in SOBE without being completely ripped off.
(4)Alee R.
Not even playing.. this place is 5 stars across the board. Santiago and the ladies treat you like family. That alone was hard to find in south beach. The food was ridiculously good, with large portions. Out of all the places we ate at in Miami, this place was the best. Will def be back on my next trip! #muchloveforbolivar
(5)Chris H.
The food is okay but not so delicious. The stuff is very helpful and friendly, but it is a tourist nap because the TIP/gratuity will automatically added to your bill. That's not fair!
(2)Shawn L.
Very nice, great staff, delicious, highly recommend.was a nice place to stop on a hot day and was extremely surprised by how fantastic the food and service was. Very authentic and equally delicious. Good people watching spot away from the big crowds in the super touristy areas.
(5)Drew M.
I phoned ahead to ask about using a Restaurant.com certificate so that I might avoid any problems (I'm uncomfortable using such certificates and coupons because there's often so much 'attitude' about any kind of transaction in South Florida). I spoke to two people on the phone who sounded very nice and professional. When we arrived, we also found all of the staff to be very friendly and professional. I really don't want to sound so negative, but friendly and professional are not frequent aspects of dining out and conducting business in South Florida in my experience, and I've lived here for almost two decades. The entire staff of Bolivar we encountered were super nice and attentive. The traffic and the parking situation was really quite the nightmare. Just to get from the causeway upon arriving on Miami Beach to the restaurant involved a gigantic tour bus spewing black smoke in front of us and creeping traffic navigating accidents, police blockades and detours all along our short route to Washington St., and besides that the congestion was terrible. Parking garages were charging $30 and $40 to park. After navigating and u-turning in horrendous traffic, we pulled up in front of Bolivar. There was valet parking right in front for $10, and it was quick and easy. Our car stayed right in front in their reserved valet spot. Inside is colorful and evocative of Central America but a bit cavernous and dark in the back. We sat in a window seat up front. The wine list is presented inside of a wine bottle, so you hold the bottle to look at the list. The sugars were presented in a carved wooden box like one might keep their 'stash' in. The desert menu was presented in a cigar box. Those kinds of touches are very nice and unique, and the dishes and utensils are heavy, top quality. My only complaint about the atmosphere is that the music went from soft to obnoxious to soft and back again. I especially HATE meringue playing while I'm trying to eat. Live music began by a solo musician singing to, I think, an electronic keyboard towards the end of our meal. We had arrived a bit early, but as the evening got going so did Bolivar, and they appear to be doing a good business, at least on the Sunday evening we were there. I first ordered a cosmo martini with lolu or lulo juice, whatever that is, and it was absolutely delicious. I am very particular about my martinis, and that was blue ribbon. Strong and, well, delicious in a heavy, real martini glass (I last ate recently in South Beach at Balans, where my cosmo was served in a short glass, which was disappointing, and it really wasn't good- in fact, I sent their first attempt back). The server brought us complimentary Corn Cakes, which were two small corn crackers with their salsa on top. I saw at least one other order of Corn Cakes going to a table, so perhaps now and again they serve them complimentary, perhaps for those who had made a reservation. I don't know, but it was a nice touch because I had been intending to order a full course dinner with drinks. So next we got the Chicken Soup and Crema Caramones, a creamy shrimp and corn soup that was really a bisque, and both were really just extraordinarily delicious (I tried both my order and my companion's). Really flavorful, delicious soups. Highly recommended. Mmmmmmm.... really! Then our entrees were the Salmon Manuelita and a shredded beef entree called Pabellon Sifrino. These entrees were not as good as the appetizer and the soups (and my drink). They were fine, but they were not particularly flavorful and lacked punch. I've had much better at Don Lolo's in Hallandale Beach, an inexpensive restaurant that exhibits little style and pizazz but has uniquely good Latin food at cheap prices, and their menu entrees are very similar to what we had ordered at Bolivar. My entree, however, came with a side of roasted squash and something green, which was very good, and white rice with cilantro, which was, well, white rice. We didn't order dessert because it was all flan and custard, which are not particularly appetizing to me, and we were pretty full. I did, however, get an espresso, which really was excellent, I gotta say. Overall, the two entrees we ordered were good but not impressive, but the martini, the little appetizer with a very flavorful salsa, the soups and the service were top notch excellent, and I would be very happy to go back to Bolivar and try other entrees as well. There was a cheerful, elegant energy to the place like one might experience in a more genuinely cosmopolitan city other than South Beach, which is a cesspool of rampant under-regulated capitalism trying to part passersby with their money. I recommend to Bolivar that the music is kept soft and less intrusive for dining. The two entrees we ordered need spicing up, and I am not a fan of white rice anywhere, but especially in a nice joint with a chef's creations on the menu. All around, however, I was very pleased.
(4)Lisa Y.
Super nice service! We even got samples of wine and apps on the house. Food is delicious of course, and their drinks are creative and awesome! Recommend spicy grilled corn and mussels for appetizer, Lomo Saltado for entrée, and sangria and Bolivarito for drinks. Oh one last thing, the dark green one of their four sauces are REALLY spicy. Be careful!!
(5)Jennifer N.
Ah-maze-ing!!! Food, drinks, atmosphere. . All topped off with immaculate service, Cesar was the man!!!! A must eat while in South Beach!!!
(5)Todd L.
We went here because of a Groupon and ended up loving it! The chef sent out an on the house appetizer and they had us from there. Great change of pace spot.
(4)Justin A.
The customer service (the hostess, wait staff, the singer) was excellent! The tapas plate of 7 selections was a great shared entre for two people. The crowd was mostly locals (a good sign) and we are still blown away by the sincerity of the staff. The fact that it is reasonably priced makes this place a gem! Highly recommend.
(5)Kitty S.
This review is only for desert and service. Service was good, very friendly staff. Cuatro leches was very..very good. Main course not so much or not to my liking.
(4)Moeen A.
We ended up using the yelp $20 for $40 deal for this place, and I've got to say, I was thoroughly pleased. I ended up ordering a glass of mango juice (which tasted absolutely delicious - and not at all processed) and the main entree of Bandeja Paisa. The steak was tender and juicy and the red beans, fried egg, and rice complimented it perfectly. The sweet plantains were great (just wished I ordered a bit more of them). The service was excellent and the ambiance of the place was exceptionally pleasant. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
(5)Josue M.
Some parts of the meal were great, others were just OK; and one thing was actually bad. Luckily, the bad thing was the free corn cakes plate; so it didn't cost us anything. The garlic shrimp and crisp pork belly were mediocre. The chicken wings, skirt steak strips, cheese sticks (not typical cheese sticks), and sweet plantains were very good. The environment was nice, with live Latin music; and the service was decent. I would try it again next time I'm in South Beach, because the things we did like were very good.
(3)Bryant S.
Food was exceptional... great atmosphere with the live singing... extremely impressed with the food and service. Def. Would come back again. If your in the mood for some great Spanish Columbia food this is the place to go... place wasn't too busy made reservations sat right down..The restaurant sent us a free appetizer to try which was great.. Thank you...
(4)Dona P.
The bf brought me to MIA for my bday- and he discovered this place through a deal offered by yelp... It was a Tuesday night so a slower night, but our waiter was awesome & had great recommendations... He was super knowledgable about the different flavors through various parts of central and south america, & took the time to explain them to us. We started with fried plantains topped with shredded chicken. They bring you a spicy sauces tray which was awesome. The app was crunchy and creamy all together in one. Entrees were Argentinian skirt steak and seafood stew in garlic sauce... All delicious and plentiful!! This will be a Miami beach staple for us!!
(5)Jennie B.
We loved this place! The food and service was excellent! We loved the fun atmosphere!
(5)Aya R.
The environment was great , this place has a lot of character. The waitress was really sweet . The food was pretty good but I've had better Latin food . Only real issue was that I ordered steak and it came out cold .. that basically ruined my experience ..
(3)Katriel C.
I.....friggen......love this place. Being colombian I can be pickier than most when eating at places like this. Bolivar exceeded my expectations, the staff is friendly and very hospitable, ambiance looks awesome especially the new artwork. I left the food for last because it was the best! Literally came back twice in one day a few times. Try the patacones and or the ceviche platters.
(5)Snigdha G.
This was a perfect night with family! I ordered fish and my husband had steak. The appetizers were phenomenal. I loved their house special beer! I would recommend trying this place for sure!
(5)Megan R.
Absolutely delicious! Our waiter was so friendly and informative. We learned a lot about columbian cuisine, being we are Americans from up north with no Spanish heritage. And the food was to die for! Tried pork belly for the first time, and it tastes just like bacon! Lol. Definitely a must try restaurant if you're in Miami.
(5)Juan D.
Great ambiance. Good food and excellent variety. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and was all freshly made. Highly recommend the 7 for $29. Cant go wrong. Our waiter Cesar was perfectly attentive not too much not too little. He was also very knowledgable about the cuisine and was able to recommend items that both my wife and I would enjoy. The sangria was also delicious. Live music after 8 was nice. We ended up staying for dessert too - try the brûlée. The have valet for $10 so parking is easy. Overall awesome experience.

The Baneja Paisa is the dish to try here. The Pollo Saltado was salty. The Patacones con carne appetizer was very good. The Sangria was generous. The Crema Catalana was quite tasty.

It was one of my last nights in Sobe. I yelped places to eat and came across this $20 to 40 deal. Best. deal. ever. I also got free wine by checking on yelp, score! Instead of standard bread and butter we got flat corn bread with a tomato based topping which was nomsmazing. For my entree, I got the Bandeja Paisa which was basically a bunch of tapas on one plate. Fried pork belly is dangerously good and the combination of tapas on this plate together was perfect. Plates are definitely share-able. I shared this plate with 2 other girls. Another plus, I love that on the kitchen door, it says "no trespassing, trespassers will be cut into pieces and will be served in the special of the day." Most random, unexpected, but disturbingly funny thing I've seen at a restaurant. This place has 3 major cuisines in one place so if you like to try new dishes/cuisines in a comforting, cute atmosphere [just don't trespass to the kitchen] then this place is for you!
(5)Melissa H.
Very yummy food, & Cesar, our waiter, was excellent! They use clever details to set them apart from other restaurants. The Pruvian, Colombian, & Venezuelan dishes were fused together tastefully. The atmosphere & music were lively & Latin, but you could still have a conversation at your table. We were happy to find Bolivar in a sea of touristy restaurants on Miami Beach. Just two block west of Ocean Drive. Quatro leche pastel (cake) is recommended!
(4)Julie T.
Fabulous little place with the friendliest staff in South Beach! Food is great, drink and dessert menus are presented with uniqueness! I will come here one more time before I leave Miami!!
(5)Melissa P.
I highly recommend this place. We decided to try it out based on all the reviews. AMAZING! We're not familiar with South American cuisine but our server had great recommendations. He also sent us arepas on the house :) We ordered mazorca, cangrejo galapagos, and the 6 ceviche shots to start. Then we shared the bandeja paisa and pabellon sifrino. OMG! All of it is delicious, flavorful and fresh. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in Miami.
(5)KnL S.
What to start with? The staff, friendly, professional and attentive the whole way through, The pride they take in their business is evident in all of the special details in just about everything, The place is clean and well maintained as well as beautifully decorated. Now the food,,,YUM! We had the Bandeja Paisa, I have tried this dish 3 times in different Colombian restaurants and have always been disappointed with the quality of the meat. However, the quality of the ingredients and the perfectly cooked chicharones and steak at Bolivar were a hit. My gringo husband LOVED IT! We also had the shrimp ceviche which was almost to big to finish and a Yerba something salad with crunchy Colombian sausage on top - delish! Unfortunately we had no room for dessert - but we will be back - soon!
(5)Alonso M.
I would love to give you five star just because of your staff. Everybody super friendly and ready to answer your questions. But in a review we have to consider also the food. As a compliment they gave us small arepas with a tomato based topping. The topping was good is the taste of the arepa that change everything. I don't know burned? But it didn't look burned? We just have empanadas for appetizer and I love them. Different corn base full of meat and crunchy. The main dish It's not that it was bad it that's part of it was served warm almost cold. We have Bandeja Paisa: The meat was soft and taste very good also the sweet plantains were good and sweet. But the white rice and red beans were kind of cold?. Chicharron was kind of gummy didn't like I'm used to eat it crunchy and the arepa for some reason I didn't like the taste. Our dessert was the cream brûlée with passion fruit but the flavor of the passion fruit it's so strong that you missed the flavor of the soft cream that you mix with it. Coffee is a must very good!!! This is a nice place where you can have different types of food but they have to pay attention that all the food is served hot or at Least warm.
(3)Alexis M.
This place is such a nice spot in downtown Miami. I came from out of town with my cousins on vacation, purchased the groupon for $40 which was good for $200 worth of food and its just amazing! From the decor to the wonderful accommodating staff. My experience was pleasant. The food was amazing and needless to say we felt very trendy for picking such a good place. If i ever go back to Miami i will DEFINITELY go back!!
(5)Francesca F.
Came here on a Tuesday night with my boyfriend for date night and I must say we were both pleasantly surprised for once! The food was all really tasty, portions are large, and everything is pretty reasonably priced. They were running a half off deal on their bottles of wine and I was able to order something that we both enjoyed, which is usually very difficult because of his picky palate. We ordered the tostones with shrimp, fried artichoke, chicharrones, churrasco (ask for extra chimichurri sauce) and the lomo saltado. Everythng tasted fresh, and was executed to perfection. We were pretty impressed after having dined at more than a few South Beach restaurants that couldn't seem to hit the mark. So glad to have this place around. Although our pairing wasn't ideal, we went with the 2011 Mairena Torrontes, which is super floral and finishes sweet. Just dry enough for me, the Sauvignon Blanc drinker. Although I can't remember her name, our server was perfect! I almost forgot she was there! As a long time member of the service industry I can tell you that is the hallmark of perfect service -- neither intrusive nor absent -- you almost forget that they're even around.
(5)Paul R.
The food here was solid. I would definitely come back.
(4)Cindy S.
SO good! The service is attentive, the prices are reasonable and the food is amazing. I had the Mariscos and it was flavorful and just great. I visit Miami twice a year and i will absolutely be back. Try it. So worth the walk to SoFi. Yum
(4)Angelica A.
This restaurant is owned by the same person that owns la Ventana. The service is good and the food is delicious. It's 4 stars because although they have a Latin fusion menu they have few options, especially for a non seafood eater. Their refajo drink is refreshing and tasty. Will try their sangria next time.
(4)Fred J.
Great food, presentation and service. Reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
(4)Andrew L.
I had the Tiradito, chupes de camarones, and one of their house special drinks, which I can't remember the name of. The Tiradito was very good. The pieces of fish were nice and meaty and the different sauces were a good contrast with each other. It would be a good sized appetizer for 2 or 3 people (or even 4, but then everyone might not get to try everything), but I made it my main dish. The soup was fantastic! It's a creamy soup (but not thick or gloppy) with lots of shrimp, rice, potatoes, and an egg. It's a seafood based soup and it was better than anything I had in Peru (from whence the soup came) and where I had just come from. The drink was VERY strong, which the waitress had warned me, but it didn't taste that way. I just knew it was strong by the way I felt midway through the drink - lol. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. Just know that English is not the primary language of several of the servers, so just be a little patient. I'd be happy to go back for the exact same meal anytime!
(4)Michael B.
Food was pretty good, but smallish portions and little higher prices make this this just ok..
(3)Maria L.
Fast and nice service, nice environment, good food. We had the blood sausage, pork belly, skirt steak, and corn on the cob tapas. We also had the arugula salad. All the food was good except the pork belly was not as expected (although others may like it -- it was very salty without much other flavor). The other couple we were with enjoyed all of their dishes. I would definitely go back again and recommend others to go!
(5)Summer P.
So, my girls and I were referred here, and wow yum! Sat outside . Greattt food, and good service! We had several tapas, each one were so good! The only con, the dessert menu was very short and no chocolate! Bummer. Other than that, would go again.
(4)Ashley C.
My friends and I were visiting from California and we saw a deal on yelp and we decided to try this place. It was SOOOO good!! Our waiter was great, he was very knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings. The food was really delicious. I got the Churrasco which was the grilled skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and mashed potatoes. I literally dream about that dinner ever since I've come back lol.
(5)Jelena V.
went once with friend of mine from canada in may, bartender ignored us... we was sitting and waiting over 10 mins. was not impressed at all..
(2)Rayyan J.
We had their empanadas for appetizers, lomo saltado as the entree and cuatro leches for dessert. All plates were superb. Lomo saltado was very flavorful. The empanadas were crispy and delicious. Mango juice was fresh and refreshing. The service was outstanding too.
(5)Jasper L. R.
Very friendly staff, reasonable prices, and, most importantly, excellent ceviche. All in all a great place, definitely recommended.
(5)Leilani T.
A great place for locals and travelers who want to taste classic dishes from Colombia, Venezuela and Peru. The service was informative and attentive and the prices very reasonable!
(5)Anastasia B.
Excellent restaurant! Everything was delicious: the appetizer, entrée and desert. Service was great. The restaurant is clean and cozy. The hostess barely speaks English so she might get confused if you ask her for something complicated. If you are coming in on a Groupon keep in mind that you will have to pay another $16.20 for tax and gratuity (mandatory 18%). We are planning on coming back on Monday for a 5-8pm happy hour.
(5)Rosalyn C.
Really pretty decoration inside. We actually had a coupon from yelp which was awesome. Really loved the fried plantain and swimp with garlic sauce dish as appetizer. For my main dish I ordered salmon with white rice & it was a tight bit too salty for me. In the other hand my boyfriend had a huge fish platter & had nothing but good comments. Drinks were deliscious, will definitelly come back once back in MIA.
(4)Vivi W.
Amazing drinks, so gorgeous! Good deals available on yelp. It was my hubby's bday and they did a birthday extravaganza (gave him a funny hat, a nice song by the staff, and really good dessert). One criticism from me would be that the food was slightly greasy for my taste, but good kinda greasy. A nice dating spot (seems like all the customers were couples).
(5)Fausto P.
Good food, good ambiance, and our waitress, Erika, was nice. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because they did not want to accept the Groupon that we had for their restaurant, which was the reason we went there in the first place. The Groupon had already expired, so we would not receive the offer, but that was ok with us as we already knew it. However, as per Groupon policies, once the offer is expired, the merchant is obliged to accept as payment whatever money was paid for the deal (no special offer or its individual policies would apply). Apparently, our waitress did not know how to handle the situation, so we asked for the manager. She called somebody else (not the manager). After explaining the situation to this man, he was unable to understand either...very stubborn man. We ended up paying the bill in full, and then calling Groupon for a refund. It was not a big deal, as we did not lose any monetary value, but it left us with a bittersweet taste, when it could have being different.
(2)Avi B.
Amazing food and experience all around. I would suggest sharing a bunch of tapas with a group to get a super authentic taste of various regions around Latin America. Two thumbs up!!!!!
(5)Brian C.
FABULOUS place. The staff are falling over themselves to be friendly (but it's natural!), the food is GORGEOUS and reasonably priced, the decor is fun and cool..... then there's the lunch specials and the happy hour (5-8pm, wine, beer & sangria $3. Well drinks $5, all with free bites when at the bar!) I've had the yelp app for 6 months on my phone and this is my first ever review - THAT'S how much this place rocks! :-)
(5)Joel D.
Bolivar was nice but it was quiet for much of the entire Friday evening I was there. The food was good, not great. I would have rather had the ceviche at Ceviche 105 downtown. Drinks were tasty.
(3)Rocio D.
The "eche" ceviche and the tiradito were awesome! I am Peruvian and take ceviche seriously. I can say their ceviche is one of the best I have eaten in Miami. The service was also great. Alfonso was well informed about the different cuisines and pleasant.
(4)Nettsy V.
Vacationed in south beach and this was by far the best meal I had as well as great service!
(4)Brian And Fran M.
Saturday night dinner, no reservations were allowed. We have 7 tapas selection for $29, the fish ceviche plate and a few South American beers. Service was excellent. My companion had a capirhinia, was great. Ceviche was excellent, the skirt steak was great, nice assortment of sauces. Bill was $90 with alcohol and coffee. I would knock off a half star if you are there when the club next door starts pumping!
(5)Sharvina Z.
Probably the best meal I had in Miami! food, wine selection and service was awesome. The mango ceviche and skirt steak were my favorite. Would def come here again!
(5)Louella D.
Great food! Awesome Ambiance! Welcoming to big groups! I would definitely come here again! :)
(5)Melissa O.
Excellent food and drinks at Bolivar. A range of south american food, but they do a really good job of keeping each dish authentic to its native country (and indicating which one it's from) rather than try some sort of pan-south american fusion or just giving you something like a generic "empanada". Patacones con pollo (appetizer from colombia) were awesome. Eche ceviche was excellent as well. Just enough kick to it.
(5)Lauren Z.
So good! Very friendly, great service. Agua de Florero drink is so good! Ceviche = must get! Patacones also! Can't wait to go back next time in Miami.
(4)Charlie S.
Great food, nice atmosphere. Waiter was nice she explained all the dishes that came out. Overall great experience. We would come back again.
(5)Alaina L.
This review is about two different experiences I had at Bolivar; horrible service not once, but twice..... The first time I tried to eat here was with family while they were in town. I heard great things and had of course yelped it to discover 4 stars. Well, we got there around 9:00pm on a Sat night. The server was super rude and basically told us we couldn't eat there bc they were closing in 30 minutes, despite the fact that the website AND automated phone recording stated that they closed at 11:00pm, approx 2hrs from the time we arrived. Talk about unprofessional. Anyway, I decided to visit a little earlier on my next visit, thinking that maybe they were just rude bc they were ready to leave the last time (still no excuse in the service industry, but I like to give people a 2nd chance). We sat down inside and decided to order some adult beverages. Since they claim to be a Peruvian fusion establishment, I requested a Pisco sour (as my aunt is Peruvian and always made the best Pisco sours during the holidays). But to my dismay, they do not have Pisco at the bar. WHAT??!!! Ok fine. Well I guess I'll just have a Capirinha, which is Brazilan, not Latin, but whatever. Before we even ordered our entrees, the server AGAIN, rushed us. He stated that last call was in 5 minutes. Mind you, we were there at 8:00pm on a Tuesday night, in April. What the hell? So we decided to order more drinks right away. I was very put off at this point. Not only was the service HORRIBLE, but the food was disappointing as well. The empanada appetizer was so dry! I had to wash them down with my drink. My paella typed dish was completely over cooked making all the seafood super rubbery and inedible. A total waste of money & time. This place is a joke.
(1)Stephanie A.
We went with such high hopes cause of the yelp reviews. The empanadas were yummy, but the ba... Paisa (can't remember the exact name) platter was not good. The pork belly was very fatty and the steak was tough.
(3)Katya D.
Delicious food and staff was helpful and pleasant!
(5)MONICA Y.
Came here riiiight before closing time and still received excellent customer service. The food was amazing! I was on vacation but will stop by again when I go back!
(5)Melinda P.
Went here during the food tour and had to come back the next day to eat it again. Great food!
(5)Jennifer O.
I am really between 3 and 4 stars for this place. I went here on the culinary tour and the food was really tasty, everything was fantastic! So, my friend and I decided to come back the next day and everything was less than fantastic, unfortunately. We got a couple of the same items that we had tried on the tour, the tostones and the empanadas. The tostones were still really good, but the empanada wasn't nearly as good as it had been the day before. Also, we had the calamari and it was terrible. Chewy, no flavor, not fresh....we both expected great calamari being right by the ocean, but this was awful. We didn't eat more than one bite each, but the server didn't ask what was wrong with it despite it all being left on the plate....not cool. The service was also very slow and inattentive (but friendly when we actually saw a waiter). I would give them another chance since I really liked them on the tour, but it was a disappointment.
(3)Katherine G.
I started off my experience at Bolivar with a waiter who didn't seem to listen AT ALL. I know that he meant well, but when I tell the guy that he doesn't have to give the remedial Latin Food 101 lecture to me even though I am clearly a gringa (though not a tourist), I tend to get annoyed. That and the fact that the sangria (good) was $8 for a glass that was mostly ice. Not cool. Next: It serves me right for expecting a Colombian place to make arepas de choclo the right way (aka Venezuelan style). Blaarg! I flat out sent it back, because the "cheese" on top tasted like cream cheese. Between that and the texture of the "arepa," I felt like I was at Einstein Bagels. :/ Full disclosure: my Venezuelan mother-in-law and husband are amazing cooks, and spoil me silly with their cooking--which is the real deal. What was good? The fish ceviche! It also came in a salad bowl presentation, so at least I didn't go hungry for long. Still, again the guy goes into Latin Food 101. It must be all of the ignorant tourists who make him assume that everyone coming through the door knows nothing about Latin cuisine. Ugggh. I also ordered the pabellon plate to take home to my husband. He said that it was OK/good, but not the best. No, not coming back.
(2)Jaime L.
I only go to Bolivar for lunch, and I always order the same thing, a bandeja Paisa. This is by far the best bandeja Paisa on the beach... To those unfamiliar, the bandeja paisa is the quintessential Colombian dish, a combined plate of beef, pork, fried egg, rice, avocado, beans, plantains. Stick to your bones deliciousness. Highly recommended for lunch.
(5)Elcio A.
We had a great night at this Latin Restaurant! The staff was so friendly and warm. We started with a delicious creamy shrimp soup. As for the entrees, we had Churrasco Argentino and Bandeja Paisa. Both very good also. We finished with a top of the line Crema Catalana de Maracuya (Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée).
(4)L L.
I think this was my favorite meal in Miami. The servers were nice and attentive. Well worth the price in comparison to the other restaurants near Ocean drive but just a short walk away. We ordered the 7 types of tapas for 29 dollars. For Boston standards that is pretty cheap. We also ordered the shrimp ceviche and the tamale.... both were excellent! The natas dessert was not too heavy and tasty as well! Sangria was average. I would definitely come back again if we return to Miami. The atmosphere was cute and cool - red or green neon benches (SOLD!)... and one last note, becareful of that 18% service charge. I don't get that at all.
(4)Vince S.
It was super awesome, I had the pescado margarita and it qas just ... out of this world. Very nice staff and very nice ambiance. will go back for sure !
(5)Andre R.
Best Columbian food ever!!!
(5)Anna S.
Based on previous reviews this seemed like a sure hit; but unfortunately, it turned out very disappointing. We ordered tapas: Calamari - terrible! Frozen and dry Skirt steak was good Blood sausage was just ok Garlic shrimp - very flavorful, but they used baby shrimp instead of jumbo shrimp, like you'd expect Sweet plantains were great Mussels were very good Empanadas were mediocre at best Yellow potatoes - fried whole baby potatoes - not worth ordering Passion fruit Creme brule - very sweet; missing the crispy carmalized top :( All portions were tiny - not worth the $4 per piece at all. Sangria was mostly ice. If we didn't have a deal the food would not be worth the price. Staff extremely friendly and courteous. If you order tapas one by one, instead of a bunch, they bring them in a larger portion size. Our waitress felt really bad for the long service and gave us an additional discount. They really do try.
(3)Mine E.
The shrimp soup and ceviche is heavenly delicious. The service is quick and alfonso is super friendly !!!
(5)Robert W.
Fantastic restaurant. Great vibe inside, very good music. Service was slow but friendly. Drinks were expensive. This is a great place to hit while in South Beach.
(5)Meh G.
Excellent restaurant. The staff was extremely professional and very friendly and made us feel very welcome from the second we walked in. The food was amazing with very large portions. This place definitely deserves a 5 star.
(5)Veronica E.
We visited this place for a late lunch. Alfonso was our server, super nice, friendly and recommended some great beer and food. Food was delicious, we had the ceviche shots and the 2 different types of ceviche as entrees. Everything was amazing, and the yelp deal $40 for $20 made the experience even better! Highly recommend this place, it's a local spot, gets you away from the noise and hustle of Ocean Ave, great food, drinks and overall experience.
(5)Bren R.
Food is really good. Place is a lil expensive but fun atmosphere
(4)D B.
We were visiting the area and ate at multiple restaurants every day. Relative to other restaurants in South Beach with entrees in this price range, we a had a five star experience. You won't feel like you are in a tourist trap. The atmosphere was great. The service was great. The waiter warmly described the menu to those who were less familiar with South American dishes and insured that everyone chose something that they would like. The portions were fair and the prices were reasonable. I have nothing negative to say. The ceviche was a highlight but everything was good.
(5)KeithnKate B.
this place is awesome! the owner's think it was the owner is a super proud Bolivian/Columbian dude and the decor and food prove it! We basically let the guy order our food and each dish was GREAT! I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for authentic SA food. You can tell when your food is made with feelings and this place has it! Try the beer they mix with a Colombian soda...delish! We will make this a go to spot anytime we are in the area.
(4)Carlos R.
It was Saturday night and our table of 5 waited almost 1.5 hours after ordering our food. They provided additional appetizers to make up for the delay. I'll admit everyone totally enjoyed their food once it arrived so I'm going to give them another chance. Diverse menu options with what appeared to be international clientele. Customer service was excellent. Entertainment (singer) was very good. If not for the long wait 5 stars hands down.
(4)Jessica R.
Hospitable, Live Entertainment, Complimentary Appetizer s, Happy Hour (1/2 Price Drinks 5PM to 8PM weekdays) great atmosphere!
(5)Andrea M.
Food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. What really made this place a place to return was the atmosphere. Very modern look including the plating of the food. The appetizer was uniquely served on a granite slab. The service was excellent. The experience was made better by yelps $20 for $40 deal.
(4)Eleanore D.
Bandeja Paisa! 3 Empanadas! Great music. Exceeded expectations.
(5)Katie M.
This place is awesome! Food is unique, but not too crazy, and cooked to perfection. I found this place through a groupon offer for 3 course meal for 2. If I lived in southbeach, I would gladly eat here for full price. I also ordered a margarita and house malbec which were delightful as well.
(5)Alexandra S.
So happy to have found this place on our last night in Miami! Away from exhausting and overpriced Ocean drive. We dined inside which was cutely decorated in South American style. Drink specials were tasty and reasonably priced. The food was very tasty. I had Mariscos al Ajelo and husband had Bandeja Paisa. Both were good but we both enjoyed Mariscos more. We decided to skip on appetizers but we were brought a tapas appetizer on the house anyways...which was a nice surprise - and it tasted divine! The crème brulee for desert was also impressive. We did not feel rushed at all. The only reason I did not give this experience a 5 start was because, although our waitress was attentive at first, she seemed to forget about us after she got a party of 8 people and we were attended by another young man who, I wasn't sure, was a waiter or the busboy. He did not introduce himself to us. The point is, after we ordered, the waitress lost all interest in us. Nevertheless, would still come back here for the food and the ambiance.
(4)Michael U.
The best food I have had in Miami and at a good price. Great service and awesome food. I never had columbian food and I will always look for it now.
(5)Maurine M.
On this trip to South Beach, I made it my mission to eat as much ceviche as possible and stay off Ocean Drive. No only was Bolivar's "Eche Ceviche" the best I had my entire trip, their drinks were also strong and inexpensive. The wait staff was friendly an accommodating, and atmosphere was trendy and not overwhelming... No surprise I went back three times. This is a perfect spot for those looking for amazing food and cheaper prices than ocean craziness.
(5)Che R.
I liked the food here, I ordered some tapas. They were very good...Husband ordered ceviche and he liked it. The day I went they were rehearsing a play and it was not pleasant. They were loud and I believe they could have done that in another place or time...
(4)Magi V.
We bought a Gruopon Deal for four, included 2 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. The appetizers were very good can't complain, but the entrees were cold (stake, chicken and fish) not tasty at all. the desserts were good as well. knowing Colombian food, Brazilian food and Venezuelan food this was not as great and expensive, they charge $6.00 for sodas. Tip is included (18%) btw.
(2)Stephen S.
We had such a great dinner tonite... some appetizers, the whole fried fish and the steak... What an amazing value... and great food, we loved the sangria... Great place in Miami Beach we will be back
(5)David R.
Food was pretty unique and decently priced. Tried fried pork belly for the first time and it was pretty tasty.
(4)Karen R.
Tried this restaurant tonight for the first time. I did not know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. The prices were decent and the food was great. The waitress was very nice and gave great service. The decor is unique and it is centrally located on south beach. If you are in the mood for south american style food this place will not disappoint.
(4)Elena C.
I really liked the Vene-colo-ru Fusion. My favorite plate was the EcheCeviche, this is basically Fresh White Fish soaked in Lime juice and Maracuya Juice along with a piece of a patacon and peruvian choclo
(4)Lacey R.
Half price drinks 5-8 love the wine. Staff is friendly food is great. Love mussels
(5)Ingrid M.
If you want a food coma from Heaven..this is the place! We had arepas and they were amazing w pulled beef and cheese. Erica, who served us, was very attentive and sweet. Authentic and relaxing. I felt like I was back in Venezuela...
(4)Evie Y.
food was delish!
(4)Ann G.
We came in late on a Monday night and while they were pretty dead, it provided an opportunity for us to chat with our waiter, Cesar. We were drawn in because of the deal on yelp but we will return because the service and food was fantastic. I started with a glass of wine courtesy of the yelp check in. We shared the empanadas and thoroughly enjoyed the four accompanying sauces all with a little heat. They were crisp and full of flavor. For dinner, I had the pichana (steak) with chimichurri and it was cooked perfectly. The portion was large so we had the other half for breakfast. The steak came with yuca fries and a salad which was was perfect. My other half had the pabellon and he cleaned his plate. We plan on returning for brunch before we leave. A really great experience, awesome artwork graced the walls and Cesar was personable and knowledgable about the different ethnic cuisines Bolivar offers. I only wish we had one in Baltimore.
