My Husband and I stayed here over the weekend of 12/07/12 - 12/09/12. Our Inn Keeper was amongst the best of the best, she was attentive, informative and we shared some great conversations. She's also a fabulous Bar Tender :D We stayed in Cottage #8 and it was impeccably clean, the outdoor shower was AWESOME! We want to build one in our home even, it was so cool. Over the weekend they have live entertainment, the incredible Jesse Jet did some great Marley Covers and even some Decemberist Covers. It was a True Keys Vacation. We BBQed using the grill on site and had one of the most relaxing weekends ever. Give Tropical Cottages a shot for a True Keys Vacation. Tropical Cottages reminds me of an era bygone, they are Old Florida style huts with a big Tiki hut/Bar in the center of the property. If you're looking for a LUXURY Hawks Cay type of resort this is not it, this is for people who enjoy Bohemian living. Our room was very clean and well maintained. I would stay again, we had a blast.

Don't judge a book by it's cover!!!! Located off of US-1 this cute destiny is surprisingly quiet, cozy and clean. It's a great location in the middle of everything. As for the cottages they are renovated, yet modern with the outdoor feel. I stayed in cottage #8 (shown in picture) this has to be the most intimate place I've stayed in all week in the keys. Being the clean freak that I am, I was pleasantly shocked how clean the cottage was. (thank you) The toilet is inside with granite countertops and the shower is outside. Being a city girl I hesitated at first but this shower became a favorite key factor. The cottage also included a full kitchen, dishwasher, large fridge, plates, glasses etc.. Did I mention the king size bed? Yes all this in a little cottage!! Parking is located on site for free. They have a great BBQ grill for use free as well. As for customer service... We had a confusion at first with our check in date the nice lady seemed a bit unorganized. Sheila the owner was very helpful when taking my reservation and did me a favor. She trust's and looks out for her customers, very old school service:) Nice Touch! Overall everyone is super nice and means well. The breakfast can use some attention. For the price we paid I can absolutely recommend swinging by this hidden gem but remember, don't judge a books by it's cover!

An absolute best little secret right off overseas highway in marathon near all amenities and fun tourist sites like turtle hospital. Owners onsite and are sweethearts. Must be looking for authentic simple old Florida beautiful experience. Cottages are clean efficiencies with sinks little fridge microwaves and coffee pots. Complete outdoor bathroom in cottage 11 cottage 8 has outdoor shower for they full keys experience. Nice Tiki hut with 5 hammocks and grill to cook your catch on. I would recommend this for a great little get away no frills but just clean and beautiful and just what you need with great affordable prices!! Free coffee under tiki in the am.

NO POOL. I booked this cottage thru priceline and on price line it shows that they have a pool as the main picture. Well.... they don't. I don't appreciate being deceived... On top of it, no discount or anything for their deception. The place is cute and has much potential. Needs to be updated very badly. Very dirty as well. No water pressure in shower... If this place where in walking distance to the beach or at least have a small pool, it would be worth every penny.... as it sits now... the rates should be $110.00 per night. I understand that we are in the keys, but $200 a night for this place??? Save your money. The folks that work there are very nice. The place is quiet at night. As for a "tropical cottage" far from it... you can hear road noise constantly... the bed was comfortable. Didn't want to walk without shoes on... there was no stove (but you could see on the floor where the stove used to be) If you are a hippie kyaker, this place is for you. Seems like they are just letting these cute little cottages rot. It's sad. I will not return.

My partner and I were looking for the best possible deals for our 3 day stay in the keys. We stayed at Bonefish a few miles North and it was disgusting. Our final day was booked here and man were we impressed. The cottage we stayed in was so cute! The bed was ultra comfy. Genuine down pillows. The best part was that the bathroom and shower were outside on a private deck connected to our cottage. Some may not prefer that, and most of the cottages don't have this feature. We loved that though. It was also pet friendly which was a must because we brought along our pit/lab mix. We want to stay here longer next time and skip the Bonefish nonsense!

We chose Tropical Cottages because we enjoy the charm of "old Florida" type motels. We had expectations of a unique place that probably wouldn't be the best, but certainly right up our alley. We liked the idea of having our own separate cottage. We reserved cottage #1 in advance because we were a group of 4 and needed the extra space. Upon arrival it didn't seem as "quaint" as some of the other cottages as its really just a small trailer, but that was ok with us. The shower was ridiculously slippery and the bathroom lighting was very dim....but that was ok too. We had reservation for 2 nights, but only ended up staying one because heavy rain caused a great deal of ceiling leakage that cut our time there short. There were no other cottages available so we were left to locate other accommodations on our own. Our issue came that we were only refunded one nights stay. We felt that we should have been refunded a little extra for our inconvenience of having to pack up and move to another hotel with such short notice. Thankfully this was at 5pm and not midnight. The Tiki bar area is nice and I'm sure you can probably do worse overall. We ended up at the Sea Dell down the street and are much happier for the same price. Update...It's been well over a week since we departed and still no word from Sherry (who I was told was the "acting manager" and person in charge of deciding compensation for our situation). I had called back two days after leaving and requested to speak with her again. That would make no fewer than 3 attempts to speak with a manager...all with no results. The one nights credit did finally appear on my account and at this point I feel lucky to have at least received that.

LOVED this place. Cozy, cute, comfortable, charming, yes I realize that's alot of C's but really this place was an "A" and now I see this sounds cheesy but oh well. I love places that feel a little old, have some charm and aren't cookie cutter, this place was it. It was quiet, and unassuming with a tiki bar on the property and lots of sofas, chairs and hammocks for relaxation. Sadly I did not get to use them due to time constraints but they sure looked inviting. Only stayed for a day but I will be back here when visiting the keys in the future. Not far from Bahia Honda state park and reasonably priced (I went in June). Loved it. Felt like a little home away from home. Btw, I stayed in cottage #9, it was clean, with an indoor shower and lovely decor. No issues at all.

Completely underwhelming and in some ways just gross. We stayed in Cottage 1, but we were turned off the moment we arrived on the property. Everything just seems generally unkept. Our cottage was dirty, there were tears in the fabric on the couch, the mattress in the bedroom was so old and worn out that it was sagging in the middle before anyone laid down on it. The window A/C units were extremely loud, but required to keep the cottage comfortable even in March. We would never stay here again.

Absolutely LOVE this place! We've stayed here a couple times and it's always great. The cottages are small and comfortable, pet friendly and super close to lots of things to do! The receptionist is always nice and checkin/out is a breeze. Make sure to stay in a cottage not a suite if you're with pets!!

I feel torn as I write this review. Honestly, this is a hard one. We decided to stay at Tropical Cottages on our way back to Boca Raton from Key West. We found this place, and from the website, it looks adorable. While I will say it doesn't outright say that there is a beach on the property, it does sort of imply that there is something substantial near the Gulf of Mexico. To be abundantly clear, when they say there is a kayak and boat launch on the Gulf, keep in mind that it is only a small area where a kayak or boat could be launched. Nothing more. Also, they boast that they are walking distance from many attractions, including beaches. Unless your idea of a Florida Keys "attraction" is the coin laundromat, or the nearby bank drive-thru, you are a short drive, NOT walk, to local attractions. We stayed in Cottage #8, and while I notice another reviewer also stayed in Cottage #8 and wrote a glimmering review on it, my experience was much different. Yes, it is cute and charming. The outside of all of the cabins (sorry, I'm a Michigan gal and my first instinct is to refer to them as cabins!) are cute... pastel, coastal-y, beachy, etc. But they are also pretty rundown. I felt that they could really make some very cheap updates, and still keep the charm. For instance, I could honestly have done without the tiny flat screen TV with cable, and would rather have a non-tattered, cleaner looking bedspread that actually fits the bed. The shower was outside, which I find kind of cool, although you're going to definitely want to shower in flip flops; but, another cheap fix would be to put something in where you can sit your shampoo, soap, etc. There was a really old shower caddy that was all full of rust... again, these are literally $15.00 at Target. I just bought one for my own house! It's just the little things that could be EASILY updated, or cared for, that would have made my stay more enjoyable. And these cottages run from $100 to over $200/night! I guess that's what gets me. If you want to charge that much, then PLEASE take some of that money and clean up the place a little. Also, if you see their negative reviews on TripAdvisor, you will notice the owner actually responds to them, and she is blatently rude and does not care for suggestions, which kind of irks me because some of the reviews could help them out. Will I stay here again? No, probably not. If they gave me more of a reason to want to spend the same amount of money that I would at one of the nicer hotels, I would definitely consider it, but the general raggediness and shabby-not-chicness has really turned me off from this place.

Perfect little getaway. Cottage 3 with a Full mini kitchen, it had a great amount of space! Perfect for 2 on a honeymoon! We loved the hammocks in the Tiki Bar area, they even had live music Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night! The Owner and Staff were all super friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and would definately go back again!

I have stayed here for many years normally using Booking.com for my reservation. Last year I was told by the manager that if I had booked direct from their website I could get it cheaper. This year I booked direct by calling the front office. Guess what? I could have gotten a cheaper rate from Booking.com and a surly front office worker told me so. I wanted a full kitchen as I was staying three days and have dietary restrictions. I was given unit #1 a tired old trailer. It did not have a full kitchen, just a microwave, coffee maker and mini frig. The trailer needs some TLC desperately. The first night I had no hot water, I spoke to the manager the next morning, he said he would get it fixed. The second night I still had no hot water, now I am told that yes it was fixed and the shower is plumbed backward. Finally I can take a shower, but the tub drains very, slowly. I don't really like it but its the Keys. The free Wi-Fi doesn't reach inside the trailer, so you have to sit outside to use it. The couch, a pull out is worn to death. Its the weekend before lobster mini-season but the prime rates were charged. I needed to stay an extra day and was put into room 12. This was very modern and clean. For a motel room I was happy, except next door a couple in number 14 had two dogs with them that whimpered and wined each time the owners left. I had ear plugs but it was annoying. Overall I will say that I will not be spending my hard earned money at the Tropical Cottages anymore.

We stayed in Cottage 3 and it was everything we needed an more. It had a stove, a full size fridge and freezer, a microwave and a toaster over. It also had a shower and nice big bed, a tv and a couch. Yes it was a little dated but who cares, it was pretty clean and the AC blew nice clean cold air. It was a cute little place and really served all our needs. It was a shame that the weather was not nicer, because we could not use any of the other ammenities like the nice chairs in front of the cottage or the little Tiki Bar or the the hanging chairs. If you are looking for the Ritz this is not the place for you, however if you are looking for a place to rest your head and make a meal this will do you just fine. The place is easy to find. The people that wrote the bad reviews were probably the same people that like to stay in the Holiday Inn or looking for a bed in breakfast. For us we were just fishing in the Keys looking for a little Ma and Pa place to lay our heads and cook a meal. We will stay here again!

Upon arriving at the tropical cottages we walked down to the end of the street to find a swampy looking area with no access to water, beach, etc. The cottages are located right off a main highway which takes away from their supposed charm. We went to our cottage (#6) and found it shabby, dirty, and an overall disappointment. Upon checking the bed and box spring I noticed what looked like bed bug tracks on the box spring. I spoke with the woman at the front desk who didn't offer to come to the room to take a look. Rather she told me there was no way there would be bed bugs because they are routinely inspected. I wanted to believe her but felt uneasy. After looking at the box spring again and being totally disgusted I went back to the office and the woman repeated the same thing. She offered nothing to actually alleviate my concern. We were left hoping it was just mildew on the box spring. On our second and final night we were scheduled to change rooms to cottage #14. This cottage was better in terms of the bed but it was rundown, shabby, and connected to the office. There were planters in the living room area filled with sand which previous guests had clearly used for a garbage or an ash tray. So unsanitary! The bathroom was dirty and the tiles were painted over. I didn't even want to shower without flip flops on. Also, the showerhead had no holder so showering wasn't easy at all. This place was not well cared for or well cleaned...and it was completely overpriced! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! We were looking forward to a relaxing vacation in key west as we drove all the way from NJ but this place didn't help to provide that at all.

The location is a bit odd but the cabins are clean and the staff are great. This isn't resort living but it is a cool spot if you just need a place to stay at while visiting the Keys with a bed, bathroom, and small kitchen. You really don't want to spend too much time indoors anyways so if you're looking for an affordable spot to stay this is it. It's quaint and cute and is in the middle of the Keys which makes access. The staff were super friendly and helpful in helping us with anything we needed or questions we had. Bring food as they have a fridge there a micro wave, toaster and coffee maker. The Food choices in the area are pretty lame so the better prepared you are the better. Some of the cabins here have gas stoves. Inquire with the staff upon reservation time.

I adore the staff at this place, the cottages are cute and are decorated as cottages. Nothing to fancy, very clean.. The bathroom in number 10 is my favorite, it has a double shower head! Very cute seating areas outside, a hammock.. super relaxing. I would have gave 5 stars but the a/c in the room needs replacing, its a bit loud.. Other then that you cannot go wrong! Go now before the prices go up.. :)
