My fiancé and I visited plaza grill tonight. We both enjoyed our meals and we are both chefs in Philadelphia. Our server was fantastic! Her name was Sharon. She was helpful, answered all of our questions and was very attentive. Our wedge salads were good, no complaints. We both got the filet. Both were perfectly cooked to med rare, juicy and tender. For us it lacked a bit of salt but that's not really a bad thing. The brussel sprouts were really good. Still lacked a little seasoning but like I said before not a big deal. (That's why there is salt on the table :)) The baked potato however was overcooked and crumbly even after I doused it in butter. May they would be better if they did a mashed potato or pan roasted potato. Baked potatoes can be hard to keep hot without messing them up. All in all, great atmosphere, experience and great server. Will be back the next time we are in the keys!

Here now for dinner the food is pretty good, however it's the service that's a little off. Our apps and salads were staggered so someone would be eating while others were not. The worst part was our youngest guest at age five waited till the end of the meal to receive his Mac and cheese. Usually the youngest eat first. It's a small place and very pricey. Perhaps we just had an off experience but for this price I want near perfection oh also, the whole table is out of water and very thirsty right now!!!

It's not the food, it's about the whole experience when one (who is not on a company expense account) decides to pay to dollar at a fancy restaurant. And, that's why I am not quite happy with tonight's experience at Plaza. First of all, food was barely okay. Just something produced by an average, uninspired chef using good ingredients. On top of that, order taking was faulty and billing was mistaken too. And, the server was probably unhappy because she had to work on Christmas evening. When we asked for some extra bread, she said she might not have that. Really? You have run out of bread!? Overall, I am quite dissatisfied that despite spending $100+, I haven't had that "great-restaurant" experience. Again, a restaurant marked $$$$ needs to make sure they justify that, and Plaza seriously under-delivers in that front.

Finally fine dining in the middle keys. Well aside from Chef Michael and perhaps Ziggie's and the restaurant at Cheeca there is just no real fine dining outside of Key West as far as I can tell. There is good food and family places but not what "white tablecloth" experience. Plaza Grill had attentive service, great cocktails, and splendid food. I had the duck and my wife had a margate snapper. Both were excellent. The prices were not out of line at all for the quality. The ambiance was well appointed, once inside you could have been in NYC, Boston, or San Francisco. It was a nice change of place and style for someone hanging around in the Keys.

Wow wow wow!! I was on the edge about coming here but after days of eating our fresh caught fish, we needed a change. The restaurant is very pretty and upscale. It was Fourth of July week so it was packed. I have to admit that the service was not good due to the lack of servers and it being a very busy week. Despite this we were patient and understood that it was going to be a wait. It was worth it! Starting with the bread it was the beginning of a great experience. Fresh baked and delicious! We had calamari which came with a delectable home made marinara. I mean top notch! Certainly not from a can! My daughter had fettuccine Alfredo. Wowzers !!! So decadent! I mean creamy cheesy delish!! So home made !! My scallops. Oh boy my scallops. Best I have ever had! They come in a savory sauce with mushrooms and capers. They were cooked perfectly and oh so sweet and soft!! The skirt steak and filet mignon were seasoned to perfection, cooked perfectly, great quality meat and delicious!! I can't say enough about this place. I will definitely be back. Try the scallops!!

It takes more than a pricey menu to make a great meal. In the case of the Plaza Grill, they have a good handle on the pricey menu. A dinner for four was over $300 (plus gratuity) with three drinks. Their specialty is supposed to be steaks. My steak was late and over cooked. The steaks do not come with any sides which is typical for a steak house. My $7 baked potato came undercooked with a nominal amount of sour cream. No chives or bacon. The meal was less than average with a price that was out of whack with the quality.

If I could select no stars I would have. Here is the deal. The steaks are ok, but that is a given in a steakhouse. The problem is the staff, manager and owner are clueless on how to run a restaurant. We had six people, when we sat down, we were the only customers in the restaurant. We all ordered filets. Ok six people six steaks what can go wrong? Well five filets came out at once and no site of number six. After fifteen minutes I asked for the manager and she informed me that the sixth filet was a little late. After fifteen minutes everyone else was done. FIFTEEN MINUTES IS NOT A LITTLE LATE. By the way while this is all going on the owner is holding court at the bar and could care less about his customers experience. For $400 I would suggest renting a limo, take it to the Key West Outback. It will be less expensive, you will get better service and the manager will be happy you are there. You will NEVER SEE ME AT THIS PLACE AGAIN. I suspect it will be closed within one year.

Sooo... Last year had one meal at bar, and also Valentine's dinner. Fell in love with the truffle mac & cheese- wonderful! Very nice steak. Veal chop for Valentine's, dried out and overcooked as was partner's medium rare filet. Thought okay, it's Valentine's. They were nuts. Couldn't wait to go back this year for the mac & cheese. Big disappointment. Just truffle oil plus pancetta which completely overwhelmed any flavor. Was previewing for a later dinner, but a Stoli on the rocks was $14. Really? $18 for the mac &cheese with only truffle oil & pancetta? Think they're trying to keep head above water but Stoli is $28 for 1.5 liter at Walgren's (and next door at liquor store). Didn't bother with going back. I'm good with paying good $$$$ for great food, this isn't it. So sorry!

If there were a selection for negative stars, I would put at least negative 2. Do not eat here under any circumstances--go across the parking lot to the Cracked Conch Cafe instead (seriously--good food, good drinks, fantastic atmosphere). Before I get going, let me say that the waitress was wonderful. That is where our "experience" ended. The designer drinks were terrible. The Mojito (if that is considered a designer drink?) was nothing more than soda water and several old mint leaves mushed into some liquid concoction. The "catch of the day" must have been caught some other day than today, maybe three or four yesterdays ago, definitely not fresh....definitely. Apparently, "of the day" means something different in these parts. The scallops in the bouillabaisse were gray and could have been bounced off the floor like a bouncy ball....with ease...again, definitely not fresh. Needless to say, I will not be back and will not bring any of my friends or family to this joint. Unfortunately, since we were all excited about dining here.

My wife and I went here to celebrate Valentines Day and were very disappointed. The waiter acted very rushed and waited on us for piecemeal. He never took the order for the main course until we were done with the appetizer. So we had all of the menus laying on our small table making things awkward and crowded trying to eat our appetizers. Our appetizer (Shrimp Egg Rolls) were good but you really had to search for any evidence of shrimp. Our dinners came out after a lengthy wait. My wife had the scallops .. there were three for $33 with the steamed veggies and risotto being luke-warm at best. My lamb chops (2) were also very small and consisted mostly of bone and fat. I've had far better. My veggies were cold. The food tasted good but the temperature and amount were lacking. When we were almost finished the busboy came over and asked us how everything was. We registered the complaints and he ran off like to find a manager or the waiter but we never saw him again. When the waiter came to clear the dishes we complained to him. He said we should have told him. Well we tried but he never came back to see how we were doing and he got somewhat surly. I told him just bring the check which he did but he never spoke again and never even apologized for the problem. As we left he sarcastically wished us a nice evening. We also told the hostess about our problems. She said she would have the manager telephone us ..... so far nothing. By the way, the table next to us also complained about slow service and got a different waiter.

I'm not sure where to start. Most importantly it is essential that I tell everyone that the staff was delightful and were doing the very best with what they had. So here we go. First, there was no manager working on Monday 10/8/12, and if there was they were hiding in the back. I'm always wary of a place with no management, expectations and training tend to get overlooked. As you walk in the front door you are basically standing at the end of the bar, we were greeted by a lovely lady named Amy, who was the bartender, and we choose to dine at the bar. After a quick look at the menu we order some starters, wedge salad for me and baked brie for my wife. The items arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Here is where the training comes in to play, the baked brie was barely warm, certainly not hot, and the toast rounds it was served with were very think and very hard. I never like to assume a restaurant is using leftovers but I would guess this was last nights bread rubbed with some herbed oil and baked. The wedge salad was pretty good, but the blue cheese dressing was more like a paste, way too thick and actually difficult to dress the salad with. We both had a glass of Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay with our first course, it was served freezing cold, again I believe this to be a training issue as Chardonnay is best served at 50-55 degrees. I asked our server if the steaks were USDA Prime, she replied "Yes!" so I ordered a 14oz NY Strip and my wife got the Filet, both Medium Rare, we also ordered truffle mac and cheese and onion rings. For our wine I selected a bottle of Stags Leap Artemis. The wine wasn't stored in the visible wine cabinet, but instead was retrieved from a storage area out of sight. It was served at 75-80 degrees(should be 60-63 degrees), a huge error for a place charging $35-$40 per entree and calling themselves a fine dining experience. Again the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. My NY Strip was overcooked slightly, I ordered Medium Rare and it was Medium. That's the good news, the bad news it tasted like some sort of chemical, and did not even resemble USDA Prime, if you've had Prime Beef you know and can identify the difference. The garlic mashed potatoes was quite nice, creamy and had great flavor. My wife's Filet didn't taste like the chemical I experienced but again it wasn't great. Truffle Mac N Cheese was well flavored but undercooked. I believe the chef is using a broiler / salamander to prepare dished such as the brie and mac and is worried about burning the dish. Either way some training is necessary here, mac was ok but not hot. My wife and I found ourselves saying "they're so close" multiple times that evening. They need leadership and training to make this place work. Wines should be stored at proper temperatures if you are charging a premium for them, the staff should know if your meats are USDA Prime or not, (and the should be) and a manager should be in house all the time, this isn't a fast casual dining experience and shouldn't be run like one. My analysis is the owner is financially stable and doesn't need this place to make money, it's a hobby not a livelihood. We may return one day, but it won't be really soon. I'll need a compelling reason to give it another chance. Again the staff was delightful, some training on some finer details would help tremendously.

We were seated next to the bar, which was very loud and made conversation difficult. But the service was good (I had to ask twice for lime for my sparkling water, but she was very friendly & pleasant). The food was good. I especially liked the pastrami salmon and steamed clam appetizers (though very garlicky). The menu items were ambitious and high-end, but the execution was otherwise average. For instance the steak was cooked medium and charred on the outside, though we'd requested medium-rare and there was a raw chunk of potato in the mashed potatoes. Our meals cost about $200 for 4 people, but with only one glass of wine at the table, so the bill would have been much higher if we'd all ordered drinks.

A NY steakhouse in the middle of the keys? Yes! Great ambience! Delicious food! Steak was excellent! The fish was fresh! Highly recommend the Chocolate Moose!

Family of six we all loved our meals. The scallops and mushroom risotto was to die for. The best higher end dining in Marathon bar none.

This was another find on Yelp while my wife and I were on Marathon in the Keys. Since it was to be my Birthday dinner I wanted something a little more than the typical Seafood fare. The reviews were kind of split so we took a chance. The place is small but I don't hold that against any establishment as long as the food is good. The weather wasn't great so it made for a nice evening without the crowds. The ambiance was nice and the waitress was more than accommodating. I had the Rib-eye cooked to perfect medium and my wife had the Bacon Crusted Grouper which was a special of the day. We started with a Cesar salad and a Lettuce wedge with Blue Cheese dressing, both were excellent. Can't remember the house red wine, but it went well with both meals as suggested by the waitress. I hadn't planned on any dessert although several sounded temping, I was full with dinner. As a surprise the waitress brought out a slice of the Chocolate Tort with a candle. Our overall experience was Excellent and we will be returning the next time we are in the Keys.

My husband and I are restaurant owners, so we're a little on the picky side. We were very impressed with ambiance, service and especially the dinner! It's so nice to have an option in the area to get a little more dressed up for a nicer evening out. Although, most others stuck with the casual Keys attire. Our choices were the Tuna Tataki and Calamari for appetizers...both perfect. We both had Filet Mignon for dinner, cooked exactly as we asked! My husband LOVED the mashed potatoes that accompanied the filet. And for dessert Key Lime Pie and Creme Brulee, the only part of the evening that wasn't that great. Creme Brulee was runny. They even had our favorite wine..Jordan Cab. Service was prompt and very friendly. We can't wait to go back next time we're in town.

The exterior of this new Marathon restaurant invited me in and the decor is very upscale and lovely for the Florida Keys. We were greeted by a friendly server who dropped off a specialty martini list and the wine list. I was so impressed by the selection of wines and champagnes and the prices seemed usual (double from what you can by retail). I really thought this was going to be a great experience, but as is turns out, the food menu had a variety of overpriced meals and nothing we ordered was edible. When the server came back and noticed our plates were not eaten , there was an offer to take the most Inedible item off the check, but we insisted it was not our intent. Then, the server became increasing snippy and less attentive-it took forever to get out our check. The two of us suffered that evening at home with upset stomachs. Bottom line: Over-priced food that somehow doesn't seem as fresh or quality as "fine dining" should be. I'd go back and sit at the bar, but I'd never again order anything to eat.

Never would have expected to find a big city steakhouse in the middle of the FL Keys! Cool room and full out steak selection that are all properly accompanied with well paired sauces. Our party tried nearly all the steaks with rave results! Tomahawk Ribeye was huge and off the charts! Great wine list too. Don't miss this place - eat here when you are Tiki-Bar-ed out and need to check back into reality for a few hours!
