Eaten here a couple of times previous. Food was good, service is acceptable. Came in for dinner this evening and day for ten minutes without even being greeted. This was even after eye contact with two servers walking by my table. I will try again and will provide a better review if deserved.

I had drove by this place 1,000 times and never thought about stopping until a Chef friend of mine was talking about Champino's and saying they actually make from scratch their food. Stopped tonight and was totally impressed.Real, hand breaded Calamari, both small tubes and 4-5" whole baby squids cooked perfectly and served on a bed of romaine lettuce with home-aide sauce. Best I have had in Florida.Great service and Tony , the owner came by our table to check on how we like our food. Remember when a place, no less the owner checked on you. Will be making it a go to place, can;t wait to try the NY style pizza as it looked perfect sitting on the table next to us.

I have never stepped foot in Lakeland, Florida, but would highly recommend Champino's. We had a death in the family in Lakeland and I really wanted to provide some comforting, homemade food for our family members there. I did some online hunting, and Champino's was nearby. When I called and explained I needed food for 10 people for that day, there was no hesitation at all that they would help. Tony was an absolute gem, checked with me twice to confirm the time and order, and hand delivered the food himself to my family. They really thought the food was delicious and the portions were great. From halfway across the country, I felt completely comfortable that my family was well taken care of thanks to Champino's. Great service and great food.

Had dinner there this time and the experience and food were even better than my last visit. The baked ziti was magnificent. The staff was very accommodating when my group exceeded our reservation number, and Nancy handled our groups needs with perfect professionalism. To be honest, they probably deserved five stars on my last visit, but I am one of those who don't give out superlatives easily. Tonight, though, was superlative. Thanks to Tony and the chefs for great food all around!

Wine selection is very poor quality. This is a very popular neighborhood restaurant and upgrading their wines would cost little and improve the visit. Pizzas are ok but way too heavy on the salt. Pasta dishes are boring and uninspired. It's unlikely things will change as this restaurant appeals to the elderly and snow birds who like two for one drinks and flavorless pastas.

Avoid this place like the plague. Dirty, greasy, poor service are too nice to describe this place. No wonder there were no other people having dinner there. The waitress didn't even know what kind of wine they had and the glasses were soo dirty it would make you sick.

Let me start off by saying that some of my favorite Italian restaurants are usually found in strip malls and Champinos is no different in that respects. I gave it two stars, which is quite low for me. They are in serious fail mode. What probably keeps them afloat is the large number of senior citizens that visit this place as we were probably the youngest table there at 7 pm on a holiday weekend. Around 7:30, two more families came in that were the same age and younger than us. I will start with cleanliness. This place lacks in cleanliness. The tables were sticky and the paper placemat was stuck to the table. The floor needed to be cleaned and I could see dust on everything. There was a strong musty odor that suggested an old smell to the place in general. There was a gentleman smoking outside and since there were no fans, the smoke smell entered the restaurant when the doors are opened upon entering. No hostess stand so we sat where we wanted. The waitress greeted us and took our drink order. I asked her what the best dish was. She said that it's all good. We ordered the garlic rolls as an appetizer. Then my wife ordered the linguini in a white clam sauce and I had the chicken scarpariello. We ordered a side of pasta with marinara sauce for our 6 yr old. The bread took a really long time to come out. Finally, we received the rolls and all we could smell was garlic. That is usually a good sign but in this case, what we received was 6 huge rolls, warmed up, and pure garlic sauce poured on top of each. The bread was stale so when they cooled, they were hard. The garlic was so strong, my daughter couldn't eat one. She said it was too spicy and it burned her mouth. Next came the salads. A nice garden salad with creamy garlic dressing on the side. Then our dishes came out. Mine looked like pieces of boneless chicken breasts swimming in a sea of white sauce with a side of linguini. The taste was good but the presentation was poor. My wife's plate was similar in that she had plenty of linguine and clams with a similar tasting white sauce that was on my chicken. It was supposed to come with two garlic bread sticks, which I had to remind the waitress of. These sticks were not much different than the rolls except in shape. The food was actually very tasty so we decided to complete our order with a nice Italian dessert. I asked to see the menu and the waitress said they were out of everything except the tiramisu. Great because that is usually my first choice. She said it is quite large so we ordered one to share. It is served in a tupperware type container. We each took a spoonful but it tasted really sour. I smelled the dish and it smelled rancid. I told the waitress and she didn't act surprised. Instead, she told us that someone else had ordered the same thing earlier and had the same experience. WTF?!? Then why serve it to us? Needless to say, we will not come back unless Chef Robert Irvine rescued this place because I don't believe the owners will try any harder with the large number of senior citizens frequenting it.

If you go here be sure to try the Italian sausage hero. This is my favorite place to go for Italian food in the city. Sometimes they have some issues with the servers being overwhelmed and your food could take some time to come out. It's a fairly laid back atmosphere and they've always got Yuengling on tap and ready to serve cold.

Not impressed. Arrived to see two patrons in the place, sitting at the bar. Wait service was very slow. Food portions are very large, but the quality of the food was just "ok". Marinara sauce did not taste like authentic homemade Italian sauce, more like Ragu. Garlic bread was very good ! Once we placed our order, the waitress was very attentive , filling our tea glasses often.

AVOID THIS PLACE Ordered a calzone, when it arrived it was incorrect. Apparently order had been swapped with another table that had received their calzone about 10 mins before us. It was to the point that we overheard the waitress ask the table if they wanted it re-heated since it was probably cold. The waitress said she would go get us a "fresh" one. Came out with one in about 5 mins. The original order for a calzone took 15-20 mins or more to make, we knew the calzone was the reheated one from the other table. Asked the waitress and sure enough she admitted that it was. Told her there were major health concerns with that and she agreed. Asked for a manager but never got one. If that wasn't worse enough it turns out the waitress changed the tip amount and total on the receipt to give herself a $10 tip. We found that out later when our credit card company called. Spoke to the manager and he confirmed she did it. Got our full amount back, but the waitress was not fired and still works there. If they cut those type of corners when it comes to food/health safety and allows employees who commit crimes, who knows what else they're allowing. Will never go here again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
