Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. This is relevant to their *catering* business specifically. We were at a large event where they served chicken and also steak kabobs. The beef was chuck steak, at best, and one of us received *the back bone* of the chicken. The entire table couldn't figure out if it was a thigh or what until the person who got it said 'I think this ... is a spinal cord?' and we all realized that would be it. Nuke it from orbit... it's the only way to be sure.

A great, little Greek eatery tucked away in Sumpter Landing (the times square of The Villages, Florida). Although the interior is quite modest and perhaps needs updating, the food goes beyond expectation. The Greek chicken dishes are excellent and are seasoned correctly. Salads are fresh and plentiful with appropriate dressings layered with perfection. Service was solid and friendly and was able to address all dietary needs (e.g. less or more seasoning, less or more sauce, etc) with a smile. Athens NY is likely the best Greek restaurant in the Villages. Enjoy!

When I went in this place I new that this was not going to win the best Decoration Award restaurant but sit down and have their food. OMG I had the Gyro Plate that was so good! Then that night we returned to order some pastries. The Canoli, the baklavah cheese case were to die for. Then there was the waiter. He was fantastic. I certainly would go back again!

I had to add this place to Yelp myself! A shame, as they have been open for over 6 months as of this writing, and could surely benefit from a review. Food was very good. This place was difficult to find on google and the GPS, so we put in the Too Jays next door to find it. I am glad we did. First, the waitress was delightful! Very pleasant, and set us up for a great time. The owner also stopped by to make sure we were good, after greeting us while walking in. How often does that happen? The food is Greek and American. When we stopped in, no one wanted Greek for some reason. My wife and I shared the Buffalo Chicken Wrap, which was plenty. It was good, but a bit too much hot sauce for my wife to eat much, and for me to go overboard. Fish and chips was a hit with the kids. The fish was excellent, and perfectly cooked. There is a case full of freshly made desserts as you walk in. The kids split a cannoli and eclair and had a difficult time finishing. That's good, 'cause at $4 each they were not cheap! But, better good than cheap in my book.

Fairly decent menu - nice set of choices. Greek salads are decent. Greek dishes not too bad. Service is quite good with friendly staff. A welcome addition to The Villages.

I wish this place was better. I love a good Greek restaurant, this place doesn't meet my standards at all. Unprofessional service, and the tables were totally dirty. I ordered the pastitsio and was totally not impressed. The bechemel was bitter and the filling was super runny. I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone who enjoys greek food.

Great breakfast. Had the Gyro omelet with links. Great taste excellent service and very attentive. Will tryout dinner when I'm back and also review it. Have breakfast here with confidence.

Very good Greek food in the villages. The Greek salads are the best around. The pastistio, spanakopita, souvlaki and sandwiches are always good. So is the Friday fish fry. Prices are reasonable. Service is good but if there is a problem (only once with me), they step up and fix it. For me, are a few four-star restaurants in the Villages, no five-star. This is one of the best. Try them.

Had great breakfast in a greek restaurant wow. Had the best omelet in the world. Not greasy at all. The plate was big and greeks love to eat and the size of food proved it. I was so impressed with a beautiful young irish server and a long haired greek kid wirh great personable touch of coming to table and making sure your happy. 5 stars great job and great breakfast.

First time, take out. Wanted something small so I went with the basics of Greek for a vegetarian. Greek salad with taziki and pita. Taziki was spot on. Pita wasn't a whole lot there. There was one stuffed grapeleaf and pepperoncini in my salad. Feta dressing was good. Brown lettuce in my salad, ewwwww. All in all I thought it wasn't that much food for that much money.

We have Been here many times since living in the area. It is consistently going downhill. The owner is no longer around and I think he would be shocked to see what has happened to the food. His nephew is now the manager and does not look the part. He is sloppy looking with greasy long hair. Every time we're there there's new waitstaff. We used to love their moussaka but it is no longer good. Being from Chicago I'm used to good Greek food and will now try Feta in Ocala. It's a longer drive and maybe more expensive but cleaner and better quality food. I also do not understand how they get away with only having two restrooms one for women and one for men with the size of the restaurant. There is almost always a wait to use the restroom. Such a disappointment!

Stopped in for drinks to cool off out of the sun. The waitress seemed to be a little absent minded, as a tall drink order was presented in a low ball glass. It was ok, they have a comedic guitar player entertaining on the patio.

Menu says the name is Athens NY Restaurant. It's on Del Mar in Spanish Springs -not Sumter landing. Highly recommend the Greek chicken dinner ($12.95) for an herbed 1/2 chicken, exquisitely seasoned, crisp-roasted and tasty! Served with a wonderful Greek salad (get the Greek dressing -it's great!) and a side (I chose baked potato) and warm, grilled pita. Hubby had pork chop dinner ($13.95) for two chops beautifully seasoned and grilled. He also opted for the Greek Salad (a $2.50 up charge with his meal) and baked potato. This is a great little restaurant right on the square. Service was friendly, and adequate. Will definitely return. The hostess also told us they have a weekday breakfast special for $3.99 including coffee -will return to try that.

My second review of Athens is based on the Prime Rib dinner. I have ordered the 10 once prime rib 3 times over the past 2 months and it was excellent each time. The rib was well marbled with just enough fat to provide flavor and the meat was perfectly cooked to medium rare. It was served with "Greek" style potatoes and a house salad and, as always, the staff was courteous, friendly and professional.

Haven't visited in awhile...it still is the best food in Spanish Spring. The quality of Food and service have declined since my previous visits. Looks like they turn staff over regularly .

Great food and service. The pancakes are the best. Definitely the best place in the villages to meet with friends.

When we have company come to visit we usually take them to the Athens. On this last visit we ordered lamb shanks & they were not good. Before we could even complain to the manager he was at the table apologizing & telling us to order something else. We ordered the lamb chops & they were fantastic. The manager & the chef couldn't apologize enough. The Athens is still #1 with us. Great restaurant.

Absolutely disgusting. Door was left open and flies were infesting the restaurant. They were landing in the food. If the front of the restaurant had that many bugs I shudder to think what the back of horse looked like. Food was frozen and bland. Would never eat here again.

Nice location but not in Sumter Landing as stated earlier but in Spanish Springs between Katie Belle's and Too Jays! They have a huge outdoor seating area that has ceiling fans with great view of The Square. The menu is fairly large with a good selection of Greek food and specials. My dad had the Gyro and said it was the most meat he's ever had on a Gyro. I had a roasted veggie wrap that was great for a meatless selection. The service is very friendly and fast. The manager seemed good at spotting servers that were standing around and put them to work cleaning. I've been there twice and had a good meal each time. Give it a try. If you don't like something you should tell them I think they want to get it right.

I was really looking forward to having a greek salad and it wasn't the best I've had. It was rather boring, actually. Throw some more feta on that bad boy, please! The redeeming quality of this place was the awesome and fresh tzaiki sauce and pita appetizer! So yum! It tasted just like the tzaiki from my favorite Greek place in Queens, NY.

Atmosphere and service were phenomenal and for that I would give this place a 5. The food, however, is another story. We knew from the moment that we received our Greek salads that we were in trouble. They were lacking feta cheese and the salad dressing was subpar. It also cost me $4.50 just to add one on to my meal. I had the prime rib melt that was on special, but it was tough and flavorless. My husband ordered the Greek platter consisting of spanakopita, mousaka, and a gyro. He did not like any part of it If you're looking for a place just to stop by and have a drink at a great outside bar this is your place, but think twice about eating there. We will be back to enjoy the nice weather, great service, and some drinks at the bar, but we will not eat there again.

UPDATE: The owner (not at the restaurant at the time of our visit) took the time to send my family and I a sincere apology. He excepted responsibility for the poor experience and would like us to return to enjoy a meal the way he intended it. He worked with his managers and chefs to make sure these situations are handled differently in the future. That's all I can ask for as a customer. Bad experiences are going to happen...it's the way we deal with them which makes the biggest difference.

I had the gyro plate; very good though I thought the spicing was bit bland, Greek salad was fine, greek potatoes, fine, the other person had gyro which was good, but picked up eclair for dessert and the dough was tough, and the filling was tasteless. Worst eclair I can imagine, over done and bland. Stick to the entrees and you'll do fine, reasonably priced, nothing spectacular but good gyro.
