This is the place I have been searching for! Excellent, authentic food at a excellent , reasonable price. Complimentary chip and salsa as well as $0.99 tacos on Mondays are a winner in my book. I would suggest the carnitas and alpastor tacos in a soft shell with cilantro and onion instead of tomatoes and lettuce. They have several beers, wines and cocktails to quench your thirst! This is our new Mexican food spot.

El Maguey is back open for business and as good as ever!!!! Had lunch there today. The burrito mojado grande was just as delicious and as huge as I remember. They've even added a twist--hot or mild sauce. The food was great, service great, and prices even better!! Can't wait to go back!

Have been going here for YEARS. I love to see all of the smiling familiar faces. Food is pretty tasty too! The pastor (pork) tacos have been a little dry the past couple visits - but still delicioso! The salsa, chicken tortilla soup and enchiladas are great. This is a little homey place, great for lunch during work or with family and/or friends after a hard days work! There's always time for beer, authentic food and Mexican music overhead. I love that aspect- main reason I've continued to support this place! Note* Next to small spanish grocery store. Also hole in the wall and great place to peruse- if you've ordered to-go from El Maguey and you have to wait a bit!

This is the real deal authentic Mexican cuisine! Not for Gringos like 99 percent of so called Mexican restaurants in the USA. Try their Chilli Relenos. They are the best I have ever eaten. Hand made by the owners wife.

It's a hole in the wall with great food at a very low price. I've paid twice as much for worse.

Definition of authentic mexican food! Great service very attentive staff, food was amazing full of great taste and good amount of food for the low price! They have 99cent taco's on mondays too! Only reason i did not give the full five stars is appearance, it is clean however all very old furniture/decor. Great experience will deffinately be visiting again!

Authenitc Mexican! You know it's authentic when eyebrows are raised when a gringo walks in but everyone is welcoming. The service can lag but the food is worth it. Margaritas are delicious, well sized and priced. The most authentic flan I've tasted and consistency is right on point which is hard to find. A million times better than Taco Bus which is a joke really. Chicken soup has so much flavor it's mind boggling and I crave it. It's also very plentiful and I usually take some home as leftovers and this is when ordered as a main dish. Sopes are fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend. Haven't been on $1 taco day day but bet it's just as great.

The food is eh. The cheese sauce was bland, my tacos were okay, but not how I ordered them. The most frustrating part was their card machine being down, but them not telling us until it was time to pay. They directed us to the market 2 doors down where there is an ATM, but it was down too. So my husband had to drive around to find an ATM while I sat inside waiting. A lot of work for sub par food. They could have at least put up a sign to let customers know that.

Friendly staff and good food but I have never gotten a correct order out of there. .99 cent tacos on Mondays is a plus.

The most authentic Mexican restaurant that I've found in St Pete, so far. Ninety-nine tacos every Monday? Delicious! Be warned: if you're expecting a fancy, overly decorated, with Mexican flags, pictures, sombreros, etc..., then you'll be disappointed. The decor is simple, but it's clean and there's A/C. Food us simple and delicious. Just like authentic Mexican food. Need tons if cheese on your food? You can ask for it. But Mexican food doesn't usually have lots of cheese ;-)

This place dominates. We used to go to their market all the time and we're thrilled when they opened the restaurant. Very authentic and tastes great. A few bumps with the restaurant opening but they are certainly adjusting very well. One of my favorites in St. Pete!

I personally know the owners threw their son from going to school with him. I'm not posting cause he asked me to. I'm posting because it is truly a great place to eat. Great prices, great service, and great food. They are also very fast. Think the longest I waited for my food was 20-25 mins. If you want true Mexican food this is the place to go. I remember going when the restaurant was in the store. Then moved back into the restaurant. Hope you enjoy. Best Mexican around in my mind. Hope this helped.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
