India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Be assured that the melody of spices will surely bring delight to you.

They place my food on the next table for 5 minutes before picking it up to place it on our table. They only offered to replace it when I complained. All waitress seem to be on their first job. Food is not bad (hence two stars) but knowing they don't fix their mistakes and have no customer service, we wouldn't come back

Food is Good but small quantity and very expensive. Not worth it. Nice decor. Do not recommend! Previous review dated when business was not even open. Hmm seems fake review

Very less quantity and service is very bad No indian food or its not indian style forget this restaurant

Very nice and authentic indian food. Had veg food few times love malabar parantha, veggie platter , methi malai matter. Price little on higher side but worth the test.

Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Been here twice and had great food both times. The staff are not experienced servers but the atmosphere is better than most Indian places. The wine selection is poor so byow.

Great food. I would give five stars for food but it's too pricy. I ordered vada pav last time and the waitress forgot all about it. Upon asking she refused that I never ordered. Moving past, I only got one vada pav. Upon asking she said they only give one per plate. This is a lie because I have had two of them during my past visit. So I paid friggin 6 bucks for one vada pav. Not fair!!

I like that Zesty India serves freshly prepared individual meals and plates instead of buffet style, and I'm willing to pay the difference. Not every diner chooses based on cost--some actually seek out flavor, menu novelty and overall experience. Stay strong, Zesty, and don't give in to the buffet crowd. Now, about the food: I thoroughly enjoyed the daily vegetarian lunch platter...and when they say platter, they mean it! An authentic-style stainless tray of no fewer than six different dishes, plus a generous basket of hot buttery naan. I think it was $8.95, which is a pretty terrific lunch price considering you get a wide array of aromatic, spicy, sweet and crispy all in the same meal. The menu had several items not found at every single other Indian restaurant in Jacksonville. Good for you, Zesty. The kitchen has definitely got it going on--but "not so much" with the wait staff. Our server was pleasant enough and got our orders right, but she seemed like she had never waited tables before. I'm sure this will get better in due course, and luckily, the dining room is small and not complicated so it isn't a real problem. The restaurant was very clean, nicely appointed, and a cozy size. Go, and be the change you wish to see.

Food's good. The menu is certainly unique, compared to other Jax Indian choices. BUT, our server, though friendly, was disastrously incompetent. All tabs for our party of 6 had to be reversed and redone and took about 40 minutes to fix (this was at lunch on a workday). The place needs some trained wait staff and better management. Hope they survive the rough opening.

Very good Indian food if looking for high quality. Not the cheapest in town but you get better quality here. May be a good restaurant for a beginner as they have a buffet in the day for 10 dollars. Nice atmosphere, nice server, pleasant management and we were not the only non-indian couple eating here. We really enjoyed coming here as management and server were very kind and warm. We enjoyed the Chicken Tandoori, Laziz Seekh Kababs (tastes like lamb sausage), and the Bhindi (okra) Masala. We love spicy food and most of what we ordered was seasoned with a mixture of ginger, garlic and Gram Masala. Garam Masala is ("hot") and masala (a mixture of spices)) is a blend of ground spices. The word garam refers to "heat" in the Ayurvedic sense of the word, meaning "to heat the body" as these spices, in the Ayurvedic system of medicine, elevate body temperature. A typical Indian version of garam masala contains: black and white peppercorns cloves Cinnamon or cassia bark nutmeg and mace black and green cardamom pods Bay leaf Caraway Anyway, Zesty India is a fun adventure if you are up for trying something new, spicy and healthy. Service was relatively fast too for the Tandoor/ Clay oven dishes. We generally don't eat bread but the Naan is fabulous too. They have Indian street food for less money on the menu but we are more interested in the healthier options such as their Tandoor/ Clay oven specialties. This restaurant can handle a small group of maximum of 8 people quite well.

I tried this today for the lunch buffet. The price, of course, is great-- $9.95. I liked the blue bottle of icewater for the table, a nice touch. But the food was a mixed bag. The best two things were the chicken makhani (butter chicken) and the vegetarian makhani. Both were very good, and the okra masala was also pretty good. The rest of the items were just...off. I have never had naan that managed to taste...not like naan. It was oddly bland; I suspect no ghee was used in making it. The tandoori chicken was meh, as was the chicken chilli (chewy and really not at all spicy). The pakoras were so, so salty they were inedible. Worst of all, though, was the saag paneer. It would have been tasty, but whoever prepared it didn't wash the spinach thoroughly enough-- it was gritty! Bottom line, I probably won't go back. I wanted to try it, but India's is far superior.

Having recently been bitten with the bug for Indian food, tried many local places and finally settled on Zesty as our go to place. The 9.95 lunch buffet is fantastic and always high quality, and the dinner selections have been consistently beyond expectations. Try the cheese Naan, which is cooked with mozzarella inside, it's a perfect fusion for an appetizing start to a filling meal. Tandoori chicken and butter chicken get my top marks, but so far every dish sampled has been delicious and they truly live up to their Zesty name.

Loved the atmosphere here. It has a newer more modern atmosphere than most Indian restaurants in town. We went for Sunday lunch and were impressed. I enjoyed the butter chicken, freshly baked naan and other indian dishes. The service was good and they offered us a discount for checking in on facebook. Not a bad deal!

We had the Buffett on Sunday. I thought it was pretty good. It's a small buffet but had everything I like. :) I love the atmosphere. It was clean and modern looking.

Went for the lunch buffet and Zesty moved to the top of my list for favorite Indian restaurants in jax. Mini samosas are so yummy! Definitely has fewer options than some of the other Indian buffets, but all my favorites were there. Ambiance definitely feels like a step up from the usual buffets.
(5)Rory D.
Tried the lunch buffet today. Good quality, but only around 8 dishes. At $9.99 the buffet is the same or more than 5th Element & House of India, also both on Baymeadow. However, those restaurants are very good & have 3-4 times the size of the buffet than Zesty India. I may try a menu item next visit.

I went here for lunch and it was buffet style. The food didn't taste that good at all. I have to say this is one of the worst tasting Indian food restaurant I've been to. I was very disappointed.
(1)Othmane M.
Food was cold and service was aweful, waitresses didn t know anything about Indian food. I m very knowledgible about Indian food. This restaurant really disappointed me

We have eaten Indian all over the world and have had some very good and very bad food. This was very good. The down side is the kitchen is still working out the kinks and an entree made it to the table before the biryani and nann and way before the other entrees... but it was delicious nonetheless. We shared Lamb Samosas for appetizer and loved them. I had a Tandoori Game Hen which was delicious and perfectly cooked... the skin was crispy and the meat was so tender and moist. my wife had the Tandoori Pompano, which was also very good. Our friends had the Chicken Tikka Marsala (which was the entree which came out early) and Lamb Kali Mirch... both very tasty. We shared some garlic-spring onion naan and lamb biryani - loved it. Washed it all down with some Kingfisher beer. It was a fun time for all! We will be back.

The following review was published under my byline in the Florida Times-Union on Thursday, March 20, 2014. This is an original, unabridged version of that review. Tucked into a section of Baymeadows Road more favored by sports bars and chain eateries, the new Zesty India is a breath of fresh flavor. The family-owned establishment adds an upscale, family-friendly option to this residential-heavy Southside neighborhood. Owners Kunal and Kinni Patel opened the restaurant in January in a short strip center behind a Walgreens, just west of Interstate 295. The dining room of about a dozen tables is well dressed with canvas art and a fun, ornate centerpiece chandelier that creates a classy ambience. You won't find a TV here. On our recent Friday-night visit, we did find a menu chock-full of traditional soups, salads, appetizers and entrees of vegetarian, chicken, seafood, lamb/goat and tandoor "charcoal oven" themes. Zesty also offers 11 varieties of naan bread with many levels of cheesy, spicy or fruity embellishment. What sets Zesty apart is its "street food" tapas-style menu for sharing ($5-9 per plate). Several items incorporate creative culinary traditions from beyond the subcontinent. Dinner-minded patrons, be warned: this menu is only available until 5 p.m. My crafty and early-arriving dining partner did secure a Samosa Chaat ($5) from that menu. This layered turnover features potatoes, peas and chick peas, seasoned with yogurt, tamarind and mint chutney. The sweet and tangy confluence of flavors and part-crispy, part melt-in-your-mouth texture is a great starting point for those new to Indian food. This version did not disappoint. Like chips and salsa at a Mexican place, Zesty offers complimentary papadum, or thin, crispy crackers at every table with an assortment of dipping sauces. The papadum was fresh and tasted slightly buttery. Next, I sampled the Mulligatawny Soup ($5), a tradition-rich and broth-heavy red lentil with a, yes, zesty zing. While satisfying in flavor, I couldn't help but want a chunkier rendition. For the entree, my friend chose the Kofta in Palak Gravy ($15), a spinach and cheese plate seasoned with herbs in a thick spinach sauce. It paired well with the excellent aromatic basmati rice that came with both of our dishes. My entrée was the Shrimp Vindaloo ($16), a delicious marriage of hot-and-tangy tomato sauce with eight large shrimp. These were some of the largest shrimp I've come across in a restaurant, seafood or otherwise. Apply ample rice to reduce the heat from this dish. Entrees also come with a side of naan bread, an Indian staple delicious when dipped into any curry- or gravy-based dish. Get yours plain (tandoori-style), or with garlic, onions, cheese, dry fruits, or cilantro and green chilies. For dessert, we dialed up the Rosh Malai ($6) and Gulab Ghambun ($5), two very different ways to get your sweet tooth satisfied. Rosh Malai is a Bengal-inspired dish featuring cream over chunks of paneer (cheese). My first impression was to liken it to cottage cheese with a sweet kick. Our serving of Gulab Ghambun came with two milk-solid dumplings dipped in saffron and served over honey syrup. The dumplings only looked like mini donut holes on the outside. The syrup saturated the milky, cheesy texture and was plenty sweet, but there's nothing pastry-like about it. Zesty also offers kulfi, similar to ice cream; faluda, a sweet after-dinner drink; and rajwada kheer, or rice pudding. Zesty's beverage options include draft and bottled beer, wine, lassi (yogurt drink), Coca-Cola products, coffee, tea and other fruit-based elixirs. Drop in from 2 to 5 p.m. for happy hour specials. Overall we found Zesty's portion sizes to be appropriate yet not excessive, and our server was attentive and prompt the majority of our meal time. Zesty India should develop a loyal following for fresh, quality food served in a refined, relaxing environment. I'll be back, next time a bit earlier for some more street food. Came to Jax and ate here 6 months ago, and we had to come back while back in town! Malai Kofta, Paneer, and Manchurian are AMAZING! Or as the menu says; Scrumptious!!! I live in Tampa and make frequent trips to Orlando and I can comfortably say this is probably the best Indian food in FL!! Do yourself a favor and give this place a shot, I'm sure you will be back!!

My wife loves Indian food and I HATE it. I have been to soo many bad buffet style Indian places over the years. Most other places have offered an overstewed amalgamation of meh. We tried this place and I finally can see why Indian food can be enjoyable. The food was fresh, the flavors clear and sharp. I thought the prices reasonable and fair. The service staff does need some more training and prioritization, although I took much of that to be working the kinks out. Well worth a try.

Excellent food and service! It was my 2nd time eating Indian food as the first time was a bad experience. We got in 30 min before the lunch buffet ended and they kept bringing fresh food out. The tandoori chicken was my favorite, so was the chicken makhani with the naan bread. Would recommend and come back often.

Delicious food!! Everything we ordered was amazing. Tandoori Chicken, lamb Tikka,Dal Makhani, and Malai Kofta are delicious.

We stepped outside of our food comfort zone to try this place out and it was well worth it! Stepping in, you notice the gorgeous interior, neatly set tables, and pleasant of aromas from the kitchen. We were greeted by an employee who sat us and ended up being our waitress. She was very helpful in explaining the VAST menu. We ordered several chicken dishes, one being the Zesty Sampler (can't remember the names of the others). Everything we ordered had a different and most enjoyable taste. It's hard to find a good restaurant that can manage both excellent service and amazing food. We will for sure be back! :)

Ok. 6months can change opinions and perceptions. The Thali food was pretty good VFM but was getting boring and predictable. Last week they introduced buffett because that's what most other indian restaurants always offer....so I see that is drawing more people to the restaurant. Wit buffett come challenges. Eating real estate dropped by about 15% or more. The same old 2 waiters do all duties ( seating people, getting water and bread, giving the check etc) which really slows down service and does not help people waiting outside. And to top it they don't seem to have increased the kitchen staff. End result is sloppy service, unacceptable delays in getting water or bread or any extra you may order. Food quality is exactly like in the Thali days...just above average The one thing really disgusting was how the waitresses do not use any gloves and they handle loaded food utensils and dirty cutlery with the same hands. Yuck. I am not going back here

Great food. Needs a bit of work on the service end, but the proprietor was very accommodating and the food is great. The environment is cozy but modern, quickly turning in to our go to Indian restaurant.

I ate at Zesty India late Saturday night. The restaurant was about one quarter full and was not loud while I dined. I am not sure if it were at capacity if it would be noisy or not. Zesty is a nice place, well decorated and very clean. I started with the Shrimp in dry Marsala for an appetizer. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, something you may think is a simple task but rarely accomplished by many so called cooks. They had great flavor and were a perfect proportioned size. I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo for my main course. It too had great flavor and wonderful heat. Overall I was extremely happy with this little place. It is a little out of the way but it is worth the search. Happy Dining.

It is a just an 'ok' place. It is more like American Indian food place. There is not much Indian in there. Not much traditional India in there at all. If you are looking for more traditional Indian food look else where. The food is so-so hence 3 stars. When I go to my home country place, the least I expect is to speak in my (Hindi) language with the servers. But like i said it is more like American than Indian. Out service was good and food arrived nice and warm and on time. Well, we did have to go and ask for us to be seated while the servers stood and talked to each other.

I saw an ad in Folio magazine for Zesty India and decided to visit this weekend. There were four of us and we all had the lunch buffet. The restaurant was clean and the waitstaff friendly and attentive. We all enjoyed the food, it was clearly labeled on the buffet and they offered a wide variety of choices. I was particularly fond of the butter chicken and goat curry. There were plenty of vegetarian options as well. I'd like to return and try the "street food"

Went there on a Saturday evening and was not at all disappointed....Had hara bhara kabab...paneer makhani and chicken biryani...it was the best paneer I had in a long long time...the decor is good and servers are always in with a smile...Definitely a go place when compared to other Indian places in Jax
